IB IGCSE Tutor near me in Al Samha

Families typing "IB IGCSE tutor near me" in Al Samha are asking a cost question dressed as a location question: who is reachable, and what will that cost us? Out here, near the emirate boundary, proximity is expensive and scarce. IB Gram matches northern Abu Dhabi households with IB and IGCSE specialists teaching one-to-one over live video, and this page sets out the real dirham arithmetic before anybody is asked to commit to anything.

IB & IGCSE in Al Samha

The arithmetic, before the adjectives

Al Samha sits at the northern edge of Abu Dhabi, out past Al Bahia and Al Rahba, close enough to the emirate boundary that some households here look towards Dubai for schooling and some look back towards the city. It is a long way from the island school belt, and that single geographic fact drives the economics of tutoring for families here. Anybody travelling to a home in Al Samha is pricing in the travel, and the pool of people willing to make the journey at five in the afternoon is small.

So the search for somebody near me is, in practice, a search for a short list that barely exists. This page takes the opposite approach and starts from the money. What does this market actually charge, who publishes those figures, what does each price point buy, and where does a family's spending leak away without producing anything visible on a paper? Those four questions are answerable with real numbers, and almost nobody in this search result answers them at all.

Three of the six strongest competing pages for this cluster of queries publish no price whatsoever. Two quote United States dollars at families who transact in dirhams. One publishes an hourly rate in its page copy that contradicts the figure in its own structured data. That is the state of pricing transparency in this market, which is why this page attributes every figure to whoever published it and states the month it was read.

IB Gram teaches UAE families one-to-one over live video and makes no home visits anywhere in the country; in-home tutoring is a service we run only in India. For a household out here, that is the cost argument as well as the logistics argument. Nobody is driving an hour each way, so nobody is charging for it, and the tutor is selected from everyone who teaches your child's course rather than from the handful prepared to come this far north.

The rest of this page is arithmetic. A price ladder running cheapest first, with what each tier genuinely delivers and what it cannot. A two-year spend map for a household running both an IGCSE child and a Diploma child. The five specific places money leaks. The free support worth exhausting before anything is paid for. And the scarcity premium, which is real, and which deserves explaining rather than hiding.

One principle underneath all of it: the cheapest purchase that fixes the identified problem is the correct purchase. That sounds obvious and it is routinely violated, usually by a family buying a term of general support when the marked paper pointed at one topic and three sessions. Everything below is designed to make that mistake harder to make.

At a glance

  • Entry-level online sessions are advertised in this market from around AED 33 to 65 an hour
  • Qualified online subject tutors publish from roughly AED 150 to 300
  • Specialist IB and IGCSE rates run AED 200 to 450 and above
  • In-home visits including travel are quoted from about AED 180 to 500
  • No travel cost applies here, because teaching is online one-to-one
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Spending decisions differ sharply by programme, because the components you can influence differ. These four stages cover almost every request from the northern suburbs, with the cost logic for each.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

IGCSE, Years 10 and 11

Assessed entirely by written papers on the mainstream boards, which makes it the programme where spending has the clearest mechanism. Every mark is recoverable by practice and technique, so a small, well-targeted purchase can produce a visible change. The tier on the entry caps the grade, so confirming it is free and worth more than any session.

Families this far north frequently have children at schools in two different directions, which means two boards in one household. Cambridge and Pearson specifications differ on calculator rules and tiering, so buying practice material or sessions without confirming the code is the first and cheapest place money gets wasted.

DP1Ages 16-17 · DP1

Diploma Year 1

The cheapest useful window in the whole Diploma, and the least used. Content is still being delivered, and the coursework components have not yet become deadlines. A small block in the spring of DP1 — subject fluency plus a sensible research question and investigation topic — prevents the expensive emergency work in the second year.

Diploma places near Al Samha are limited, so students here often travel a long way for a DP cohort. That commute is itself a cost: a child arriving home after five has fewer usable evening hours, which changes what a weekly session can achieve and argues for weekend slots.

DP2Ages 17-18 · DP2

Diploma Year 2

The most expensive year to need help in, because internal coursework deadlines, syllabus completion and university applications land together. Spend here has to be triaged rather than spread: fund the one or two subjects nearest a grade boundary and deliberately leave a third alone, which is uncomfortable advice and correct.

UAE Diploma candidates sit the May session. We publish no IB examination or results dates on these pages because the board's own site cannot be verified by automated checking, and a wrong date is something a parent acts on. Your school's Diploma coordinator holds the calendar.

Pre-16Ages 12-14 · Years 8-9

Years 8 and 9

The best value in the pipeline and the hardest sell, because nothing is urgent. Algebraic fluency and writing stamina built here remove work that otherwise costs several times as much in Year 11. Fortnightly across two terms beats weekly across one, both for the budget and for the habit.

Children arriving in the northern suburbs from another curriculum often land in a lower set for presentation reasons rather than content reasons. That is correctable at this stage at low cost, and much harder to correct once it has fed into a tier decision two years later.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Cost varies by subject mainly through scarcity. The entries below note where the market is thin, because that is what moves a rate more than the difficulty of the content does.

IGCSE Mathematics

Cambridge 0580 · Edexcel 4MA1

The most heavily supplied subject in this market, so rates sit at the lower end of each tier. Plenty of choice, which also means plenty of generalists; the differentiator to pay for is somebody who works to the specific code and tier your child is entered for.

IGCSE Sciences

Chemistry, Physics, Biology · Core and Extended

Well supplied at the qualified level and thinner at specialist level, particularly for the practical-skills paper. Expect to pay more for somebody who marks method answers against the published scheme rather than explaining content.

Diploma Mathematics AA and AI

HL and SL

Four separate routes, and genuine Higher Level Paper 3 specialists are scarce anywhere in the Gulf. This is where the scarcity premium is most visible and most justified, and where a cheap generalist costs the most in lost time.

Diploma Sciences

HL and SL

Higher Level Chemistry and Physics are consistently among the hardest subjects to staff at specialist level. The internally assessed investigation is coachable within clear limits, and that coaching is where the marks actually move.

Diploma English A and B

HL and SL

Reasonably supplied, with the oral components the least rehearsed part of the course. Cheap to improve relative to the marks available, which makes it one of the better value purchases in a Diploma budget.

Economics and Business

IGCSE and DP

Mid-market rates and a clear mechanism: evaluation and application rather than definitions. A short block focused on argument structure under time pressure tends to produce a visible change in a single term.

Diploma core: TOK and the Extended Essay

Compulsory

Often ignored in a family budget and capable of costing points. The valuable intervention is early and short: testing whether a research question can carry the essay before a month is invested in it.

Minority languages

IGCSE and DP

The thinnest part of the market. Where supply is genuinely absent we say so at the first conversation rather than placing a near-match, because a near-match in a language subject wastes a term and the fee.

Arabic and Islamic Education

First and additional language streams

Required alongside the international curriculum under the federal position and taught in separate streams for Arab and non-Arab students. Excluded from the five subjects the Ministry counts for British-track equivalency.

Bridging between the systems

Year 11 into DP1

Four to six sessions over a summer, and the highest return per dirham available anywhere in this list. Almost nobody buys it, which is why the autumn of DP1 generates so many emergency enquiries.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three purchase shapes, ordered by what they cost. Start at the top of this list and move down only when the evidence requires it, because that order is also the order of cost.

Single diagnostic plus two repair sessions

The smallest useful purchase: one session reading a marked paper and naming the error types, then two sessions fixing the biggest one. Ends with the student attempting that question type unaided. Most families should try this before anything longer, and most are never offered it.

  • Three sessions, fixed, with an agreed finish point
  • Scoped from marked work rather than from conversation
  • Produces a written list you keep whatever you do next
  • Repeatable for a second topic without a term commitment

Weekly block with a stated end date

Six to eight weekly sessions where the diagnosis genuinely points at sustained work: a rebuilt topic, a coursework component, a stretch of specification missed through absence. Scoped in sessions and reviewed at the midpoint against a second marked paper.

  • Session count and finish date agreed in writing
  • Midpoint review compares two marked papers by topic
  • Stopping early is a legitimate outcome of that review
  • Homework set and marked, not assumed

Weekend-anchored schedule

Built for the long northern commute. The main session sits at the weekend when the student has energy, with one short weekday check-in to keep the work moving. Costs the same as two weekday sessions and achieves considerably more out here.

  • Primary session placed when concentration actually exists
  • Short midweek slot for marking and setting work
  • Survives a forty-minute bus run without renegotiation
  • Works for siblings on different school routes

IB and IGCSE tutors available to students in Al Samha

Each profile below is a specialist in one programme and level rather than a general tutor who covers both systems. That distinction is a cost question as much as a quality one: a mismatched tutor in a Higher Level subject is the most expensive thing a family can buy, because the money and the term both go.

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Samha

01

What "near me" costs a household in Al Samha

  • In-home rates in this market include the journey, stated or not
  • The specialist pool for scarce subjects is thin across the whole Gulf
  • No travel premium applies to online delivery, because nobody travels
  • Household time is a real cost and is largest on long commutes

An IB IGCSE tutor near me, searched from Al Samha, is a request with a hidden price tag. The northern suburbs sit a long way from the emirate's school belt, and anybody prepared to drive here for a weekday session is pricing that journey into the rate, explicitly or otherwise. The market numbers bear this out: in-home one-to-one visits including travel are advertised in this market from around AED 180 to AED 500 an hour, with Bestimate's 2026 rate table putting the common band at AED 180 to 350. Online qualified subject tutors publish from roughly AED 150 to 300.

The gap between those two bands is, in large part, the travel. It is worth asking what it buys. A person physically in the room, which some students genuinely respond to, particularly younger ones. And a narrower choice of tutor, because the only candidates are those within driving distance at the hour your child is free. For a Year 9 maths top-up that trade can be reasonable. For Diploma Higher Level Mathematics Paper 3, it is a poor one, since the specialists are scarce across the whole Gulf and are not concentrated near the emirate boundary.

IB Gram does not make home visits anywhere in the UAE; in-home tuition is something we offer only in India. So the travel premium does not arise here at all, and neither does the narrowing. A household in Al Samha chooses from everyone who teaches the relevant course, at whatever hour the commute actually permits, which this far north is often a weekend morning rather than a weekday evening.

There is a second cost nobody prices, which is the family's own time. A visiting tutor consumes the arrival, the settling and the departure out of an evening that already contains a long bus run, dinner and homework. Over a term of weekly sessions that is several hours of household time, and out here it is more than it would be closer in.

02

The price ladder, cheapest first

Most pricing discussions in this market start at the premium end and work down, which flatters the expensive option. Starting at the bottom is more useful, because it makes clear what the cheapest tier actually delivers and at what point paying more starts to buy something a family needs.

At the entry level, EdFlik advertises online sessions from AED 45 to 65 an hour and Tutopiya from roughly AED 33 to 52. This tier buys supervision, company and structure. For a disorganised student who works better with somebody present, that has genuine worth and it is not a trick. What it does not buy is a diagnosis against a mark scheme, because that requires somebody who has the scheme in front of them and knows what the examiner rewards.

The qualified tier is where specification knowledge begins. Unitors publishes IGCSE tuition from AED 150 an hour and IB from AED 200. Here you are paying for somebody who knows the course, can answer a content question properly and can set sensible practice. The specialist tier, from AED 200 to AED 450 and above with TutorChase at around AED 270, buys knowledge of the paper rather than the course: the mark scheme, the command terms, where the marks go, and what a mock paper actually means. Premium named or examiner-led provision has been advertised as high as AED 650.

The ladder below is the one to work down rather than up. Identify the problem from marked work, find the cheapest tier that can address it, and buy that. The commonest expensive error in this market is buying the specialist tier for a supervision problem — or, more often, buying the supervision tier for a mark-scheme problem and then buying it again for a second term.

Two years of spending, written out

Families almost never plan tutoring across two years, which is why the total comes as a surprise. Writing it out changes decisions, because it exposes how much of the spend typically lands in the most expensive and least effective months rather than in the cheap and effective ones.

The pattern in households running both systems is consistent. Very little is spent in Years 8 and 9 and in DP1, where support is cheap and compounds. A great deal is spent in the spring of Year 11 and the spring of DP2, where it is expensive and where what it can achieve is narrowest. Reversing that distribution does not increase the total; it moves it, and the same money buys more.

Bestimate's monthly estimates for weekly one-hour sessions provide a usable frame: AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above for specialist examination-year support. Advertised monthly packages in this market have included AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home visits.

The table below is a planning skeleton using those published bands. It is not a quotation, and IB Gram does not publish a tariff on these pages: our rate depends on programme, scarcity and session length and is quoted after a free trial. The point of the table is the shape, not the total — specifically, how much cheaper the early stages are than the late ones.

Five places the money leaks

  • Length bought instead of accuracy, when three sessions would do
  • Practice from the wrong board because nobody confirmed the code
  • Sessions spread thinly across three subjects in DP2 spring
  • Explanation paid for where marked work was what was needed
  • A failing block continued because ending it feels like failing

Waste in this market is rarely fraud. It is almost always a mismatch between what was bought and what the problem required, and it repeats in five identifiable ways. Naming them is more useful than any amount of advice about choosing a good tutor.

The first is buying length instead of accuracy: a term of general weekly support bought because a report card was poor, when the marked paper pointed at one topic and three sessions. The second is buying the wrong board's practice, which happens whenever nobody confirmed the syllabus code, and which feels productive right up to results day. The third is spreading a small number of sessions across three subjects in the spring of DP2, which reliably produces no visible movement anywhere.

The fourth is paying for explanation when the student needs marking. A student who understands the content and loses method marks does not need more teaching; they need their own work marked against the scheme and three answers rewritten. Explanation is more pleasant for everyone and changes nothing. The fifth is continuing a block that is not working because stopping feels like giving up, which is the most expensive of the five and the easiest to prevent with a midpoint review that is genuinely allowed to end things.

Each of these has a cheap counter. Ask for the smallest option first. Confirm the code in writing. Triage rather than spread. Insist that work is marked, not discussed. And agree at the outset what evidence would justify stopping.

05

What to exhaust before paying anybody

  • Ask for the marked script, not the grade sheet
  • Ask the subject teacher for their top three priority topics
  • Ask whether the department runs a free revision clinic
  • Get the code, tier and study-leave date in writing
  • Use the boards' own published material on their own sites

A page that charges for tutoring ought to be honest about the free support that comes first, because a family who exhausts it sometimes discovers they do not need to buy anything. In the northern suburbs, where households are often managing long commutes and two or three children, that matters more than usual.

Start with the school. Ask for the marked script rather than the grade. Ask the subject teacher which three topics they would prioritise. Ask whether a departmental revision session or clinic exists, because many schools in this emirate run them and attendance is often poor simply because families do not know. Ask the examinations officer for the syllabus code, the tier and the study-leave date in writing. All of that is free and it is the material any competent tutor would want anyway.

Then use the boards' own published material. Cambridge, Pearson and the International Baccalaureate all publish specification documents and support material on their own sites, and the official timetable for your centre's zone is published too. We do not reproduce or supply any of it, because it belongs to the boards; we cite and link it. A provider offering a library of copied mark schemes is offering a copyright problem rather than a service.

Only then does paying make sense, and the purchase should be the smallest one that addresses what the free material revealed. If after all of that the answer is three sessions on circle theorems, that is a good outcome and it costs a fraction of a term.

06

The scarcity premium, explained rather than hidden

  • Scarcity, not difficulty, drives the premium in Higher Level subjects
  • A mismatched placement costs a term, which no fee recovers
  • Tutor location is disclosed before the trial lesson, not after
  • Flexibility on timing genuinely lowers the rate you can access

Some subjects cost more, and the reason is supply rather than difficulty. Diploma Higher Level Mathematics Paper 3, Higher Level Chemistry and Physics, and minority languages at either level are thinly staffed across the whole Gulf. A family asking for one of those at a specific hour is asking for an intersection that may have very few people in it, and the rate reflects that.

This is where concealment is common in this market. A provider takes the booking, places the nearest available person, and the family discovers in week three that the tutor is a subject generalist. The cost of that is not the fee; it is the term. In DP2 particularly, three wasted weeks cannot be recovered at any price, which makes a mismatched placement the single most expensive purchase available.

Our position is to disclose before the trial rather than after. Where no specialist is free at your preferred hour, you get three options stated plainly: a different time with the right person, which is usually the correct answer; a wait with an actual date attached; or a tutor based outside the UAE with their location and working hours disclosed in advance. Nobody is placed into a course they do not teach.

There is also a legitimate way to reduce the premium, which is flexibility on timing. A family in Al Samha willing to take a weekend morning rather than a weekday evening opens up a much larger pool, often at the lower end of the specialist band, and gets a student with more energy into the bargain. Out here that trade is almost always worth making.

07

Permits, guarantees and the claims to walk away from

  • The MoHRE permit is free and valid for two years, so ask about it
  • ADEK bars teachers from tutoring students at their own school
  • Walk away from guarantees, claimed approvals and invented statistics
  • The student writes every word of any submitted component

Spending money on tutoring in this country involves a regulatory question most families do not know to ask. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is issued through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. It is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged fifteen to eighteen. Individuals tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and because no fine schedule is published, any page quoting an amount has invented it.

A rate far below the market is sometimes a sign that this question has not been answered. It is reasonable to ask an independent tutor directly whether they hold the permit, and the fact that it costs nothing to obtain removes the usual excuse. Abu Dhabi adds a further rule: ADEK's professional-ethics requirements for private and charter school staff bar teachers from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and the permit's code of conduct carries a comparable restriction.

Then there are the claims that should end a conversation. Any guarantee of a grade, a points total or a university place. Any claimed approval, accreditation or licence from ADEK, KHDA, SPEA, the Ministry of Education or an examination board. Any school presented as a partner or client. Any satisfaction statistic without the number, the date and the method behind it. Any star rating that is not backed by real, countable, attributable reviews. And any offer to write, complete or finish a piece of assessed coursework.

IB Gram makes none of those claims. We hold no regulator or board approval and say so. We publish no ratings. We do not describe any school as a partner. And we do not write assessed work: a tutor teaches the criteria, questions the reasoning and gives feedback on a draft the student wrote, which is the only defensible position under board rules and the only one that protects the student.

Where we tutor

Northern Abu Dhabi and what the distance costs

Out here the geography has a price attached. These are the districts in the conversation, with the practical effect each one has on what a family ends up paying and when a session can actually happen.

Al Samha

Close to the emirate boundary, with long runs in both directions. Any in-home arrangement prices in the journey, and the pool prepared to make it after four in the afternoon is small. Weekend sessions carry the most reliable value here.

Al Rahba and Al Bahia

The neighbouring communities on the same corridor, sharing the same school-bus economics. Families often coordinate lifts, which makes a fixed online slot easier to protect than a visit that depends on one car.

Shahama

The nearest established centre of population on the route back to the city, and where several Al Samha families have school places. Arrival times from here are earlier, which widens the usable session window.

Khalifa City

The main school corridor families from the north commute into. Bus runs regularly pass forty minutes, and the child arrives tired rather than late, which argues for two short sessions rather than one long one.

Mohammed Bin Zayed City

A long run south, used where a school place justifies it. These households almost always end up with a weekend primary slot and one short weekday session.

Yas Island and Al Raha

Reachable, with crossings that behave well off-peak. Families here have more choice of school than of session time, which is the reverse of the island pattern.

The Dubai boundary communities

Some households this far north use schools across the emirate line. That brings a second regulator into the picture, since Dubai private schools answer to KHDA while Abu Dhabi's answer to ADEK.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Al Samha

The Khalifa City and Al Raha corridor

Where most northern families hold school places, across both IB and British curricula. The commute from Al Samha into this corridor is the single biggest practical constraint on evening tutoring, and it is why weekend sessions are more common here than anywhere else in the emirate.

  • Amity International School Abu Dhabi
  • GEMS American Academy Abu Dhabi
  • Raha International School

Island and mainland alternatives

Where families go when a particular sixth form, Diploma option block or curriculum matters more than the journey. Worth checking which Higher Level subjects actually run in a given year before committing to a long commute for them.

Schools appear as context for the northern Abu Dhabi education landscape. No affiliation, endorsement or partnership is implied, and students we support attend a wider range of schools than those named.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Say what the problem is in money terms

Programme, year group, subject, and what you have already spent and on what. If a previous arrangement did not work, say why. That history is the most useful input we get, because it rules out repeating a purchase that has already failed for your child.

  2. 02

Send marked work and the codes

A marked paper, the syllabus code and tier for IGCSE, or the course and level for Diploma subjects. Free to obtain, and it determines whether the right purchase is three sessions or a term. Without it any recommendation is a guess dressed as advice.

  3. 03

Free trial, with location disclosed first

You are told where the tutor is based and what their specialism is before the lesson, not after. The trial itself runs on your child's own material so the diagnosis is visible. If it is the wrong match, we replace rather than persuade.

  4. 04

Buy the smallest option that fits

Where the evidence points at one topic, three sessions get recommended. Where it points at a term, we say that and scope it with an end date. The recommendation follows the marked work rather than the size of the available budget.

  5. 05

Review with the power to stop

At the midpoint a second marked paper is compared with the first by topic. The review has three possible outcomes and ending the block is one of them. A plan with no stopping condition is a subscription rather than a plan.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

No travel premium, because no travel

The gap between in-home and online rates in this market is largely the journey, and out here the journey is long. Removing it removes a cost and widens the pool of specialists a northern household can actually access.

Every figure carries a source

Each dirham band on this page names the provider or rate survey that published it and the month it was read. Three of the strongest competing pages publish no price at all, and one contradicts its own structured data.

The cheapest adequate option, offered first

Three sessions get recommended where three sessions will do. A provider that only sells terms has a structural incentive to diagnose term-sized problems, which is worth noticing before you buy anything.

Scarcity disclosed, not concealed

Where a Higher Level specialist is not free at your hour, you hear it immediately with the real options. A mismatched placement in DP2 costs a term, and no fee refund gives the term back.

Weekend-anchored scheduling

For a household this far north, the main session belongs where the student still has energy. That usually means a weekend morning with a short midweek check-in, which costs no more and achieves considerably more.

Nothing claimed that cannot be shown

No regulator or board approval, no partner schools, no ratings, no satisfaction statistics and no grade guarantees. Each of those appears somewhere in this search result, and each one transfers risk to the family.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Samha: your questions answered

Why would an in-home tutor charge more to come out to Al Samha?+

Because the journey is part of what you are buying. Published in-home rates in this market run from about AED 180 to AED 500 an hour with travel included, against roughly AED 150 to 300 for a qualified online subject tutor, and Bestimate's 2026 table puts the common in-home band at AED 180 to 350. This far north the drive is long and the pool willing to make it at five in the afternoon is small, which pushes both the rate and the waiting time up. Online delivery removes both effects.

What is the smallest sensible amount to spend on a first attempt?+

Three sessions: one reading a marked paper and naming the error types, and two fixing the biggest one, ending with your child attempting that question type unaided. At published qualified rates of roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour that is a few hundred dirhams rather than a few thousand, and it produces a written diagnosis you keep whatever you decide next. Most families are never offered this and are quoted a term instead, which is worth noticing.

Is a tutor advertising AED 50 an hour in northern Abu Dhabi any good?+

It depends entirely on the problem. Entry-level rates advertised in this market, from around AED 33 to 65, buy supervision, company and homework completion. For a disorganised student who works better with somebody present that is real value and not a trick. For a student losing method marks on long questions it will not help, because diagnosing that needs somebody with the published mark scheme in front of them. Also worth asking whether they hold the MoHRE permit, since it costs nothing to obtain.

How much should a household with two children expect to spend across two years?+

Less than most families do, if the spending is placed well. Bestimate's monthly estimates for weekly hour-long sessions run AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle and AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above for specialist examination-year work. The pattern that wastes money is spending almost nothing in Years 8 and 9 and in DP1, then a great deal in the spring of Year 11 and DP2. Moving the same total earlier buys considerably more.

Where do families in this corridor most often waste money?+

Five places, in order of frequency. Buying a term of general support when the marked paper pointed at one topic. Practising from the wrong board because nobody confirmed the syllabus code. Spreading a handful of sessions across three subjects in the spring of DP2. Paying for explanation when the student needed their own work marked against the scheme. And continuing a block that is not working because stopping feels like giving up. Each has a cheap counter, and the first is simply asking for the smallest option.

Does IB Gram send a tutor to a home in Al Samha?+

No. We make no home visits anywhere in the UAE; in-home tutoring is a service we run only in India. Teaching here is one-to-one over live video at a fixed slot in Gulf Standard Time. Out in the northern suburbs that is also the cheaper arrangement, because nobody is pricing in a long drive, and it widens the choice of tutor from those prepared to travel this far to everyone who teaches your child's course.

Why are Diploma Higher Level subjects more expensive than IGCSE ones?+

Supply, not difficulty of delivery. Higher Level Mathematics Paper 3, Higher Level Chemistry and Physics, and minority languages are thinly staffed across the whole Gulf, so a request for one at a specific hour may have very few people in it. The premium reflects that scarcity. The risk to watch is a provider concealing it by placing a near-match: the fee is recoverable and the term is not, which makes a mismatched placement in DP2 the most expensive thing a family can buy.

Can we lower the rate by being flexible about timing?+

Often, yes, and for a household this far north it is the trade worth making. Insisting on a weekday evening slot narrows the pool to whoever is free at the one hour everybody wants. Accepting a weekend morning opens it considerably, frequently at the lower end of the specialist band, and gets a student with energy rather than one who has just finished a forty-minute bus run. Ask what is available across the whole week before fixing a time.

What free help should we use before paying for a tutor?+

Four things, all of which any good tutor would want anyway. The marked script rather than the grade sheet. The subject teacher's view of the three topics they would prioritise. Any departmental revision clinic the school runs, which in this emirate is often under-attended simply because families do not know it exists. And the syllabus code, tier and study-leave date in writing from the examinations officer. Then use the boards' own published material on their own sites, which we link rather than copy.

Is a prepaid package better value than paying session by session?+

Only where the diagnosis genuinely supports a block of that length, and only where you can stop. A package bought before anybody has read marked work is a commitment made without information, and the discount rarely compensates for being locked into the wrong plan. The question to ask about any package is what happens at the midpoint if the evidence says stop. If the answer is nothing, the discount is being paid for with your optionality.

Does a tutor working with a student in Al Samha need a UAE permit?+

Yes. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is issued through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, and is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged fifteen to eighteen. Tutoring without one exposes the individual to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so a page quoting a figure is not citing anything.

What claims should make us walk away from a tutoring provider?+

Any guarantee of a grade, points total or university place. Any claimed approval, accreditation or licence from ADEK, KHDA, SPEA, the Ministry of Education or an examination board. Any school described as a partner or client. Any satisfaction figure or star rating without the number, date and method behind it. And any offer to write, finish or complete a piece of assessed coursework, which is academic malpractice and puts the student at risk rather than the provider.

What evidence should justify stopping a block rather than extending it?+

Agree this before the first session. A reasonable standard is a second timed paper at the midpoint, marked against the published scheme and compared with the first by topic, plus your child being able to name their own weakest area without prompting. If neither has moved after four weeks, something is wrong with the plan or the match and continuing is paying for a hope. A provider who cannot describe a stopping condition is selling a subscription.

Does paying a higher rate produce a better grade?+

Not by itself, and anybody saying otherwise is selling. What a higher rate reliably buys is mark-scheme level knowledge and experience of the specific paper, which matters enormously for a technique problem and hardly at all for a motivation problem. The relationship that does hold is between accuracy of diagnosis and outcome. A cheap, correctly targeted three sessions beats an expensive term aimed at the wrong thing, which is why this page starts with the marked paper rather than the rate card.

Start with the marked paper and the smallest purchase

Send the programme, the year group, a marked paper and the syllabus code or course and level. We will tell you which tier of help the evidence actually calls for, disclose where the tutor is based, and arrange a free trial lesson on your child's own material. Where three sessions will fix it, that is what we will recommend. Teaching runs one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time, weekend-anchored where the commute requires it, for families across Al Samha and the northern Abu Dhabi corridor.
