IB IGCSE Tutor near me in Mussafah

Typing IB IGCSE tutor near me in Mussafah is usually a question about money as much as about distance. Families here want to know what the going rate is, what the extra AED 150 an hour actually buys, and whether the cheap option is a saving or a false economy. This page answers that with published Abu Dhabi market figures, a two-year cost model, and a plain list of where tutoring money is wasted. Lessons are one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time.

  • Every AED band on this page names the provider that published it

IB & IGCSE in Mussafah

The real question behind near me: what does this cost, and is the cheap version a saving?

A Mussafah parent searching for a tutor nearby is rarely indifferent to price. School fees are already the largest line in the household budget, two or three children may need support in the same term, and the published tutoring rates in this emirate span a factor of fourteen from bottom to top. The useful answer is not the cheapest number or the most impressive one. It is a clear account of what each band of spending buys, which bands are fine for which situations, and which purchases reliably waste money.

Start with the figures, because most pages in this search refuse to. Three of the six competitor pages measured for this project publish no price at all, and the two that do quote in US dollars, which no Abu Dhabi family transacts in. Against that, the market is actually quite legible. Budget online tutoring is advertised from roughly AED 45 to 150 an hour, with EdFlik publishing from AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52. A qualified subject tutor working online runs roughly AED 150 to 300, with Unitors listing IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. In-home visits including travel are quoted at AED 180 to 500. Specialists run AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase publishing AED 270, and premium examiner-led provision reaches AED 650 at BartyED.

What separates those bands is not enthusiasm. It is whether the person has taught the specific syllabus to a grade boundary and read the mark scheme that decides the marks. A graduate who is good at maths can keep a Year 9 student company through practice and that is worth AED 50 an hour. The same person in front of a Year 12 Analysis and Approaches Higher Level student, eight weeks before the papers, is not cheap support; it is a wasted term. The reverse is also true, and worth saying: paying AED 650 an hour for a premium name to drill arithmetic with a Year 8 student is money spent on a mismatch.

The second thing this page does is count in hours rather than in rates. A single hourly figure hides the only number that matters to a household: the total across a course. A two-year IB Diploma with weekly support in two subjects is a different financial object from a six-session IGCSE diagnostic block, and families who compare hourly rates between the two are comparing nothing. There is a cost model further down that lays both out.

One point of honesty before the numbers. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service offered only in India. The phrase people search is tutor near me, so that is the phrase this page uses, but the delivery for Mussafah families is one-to-one live video. That is also the cheaper half of the comparison, and the tables below show by how much, with every figure attributed to the provider that published it.

At a glance

  • Published Abu Dhabi bands run from roughly AED 33 an hour to AED 650 an hour
  • Market monthly packages seen: AED 799 for eight online sessions; AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four in-home visits
  • What the higher bands buy is mark-scheme knowledge, not enthusiasm
  • An IB subject grade is a fifth Internal Assessment, so supervision hours are part of the budget
  • The MoHRE private tuition work permit is free of charge; a quoted permit fee is a warning sign
  • IB Gram publishes no rate card here: the trial is free and the quote follows the diagnosis
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Spending differs sharply by programme, because the assessment load differs. These are the three a Mussafah family is most often budgeting for, with what drives the cost in each.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three at Higher Level, plus the Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and CAS. Each subject carries an Internal Assessment worth around a fifth of the grade, so support is needed across two years rather than in a final sprint. This is the most expensive programme to support, because the cost is driven by duration and by the number of separate assessments rather than by the hourly rate.

Mussafah families whose children continue to the Diploma usually move to an island, Khalifa City or Al Raha school, and the commute that follows is the practical reason online support dominates here. Budget for two years, not for one exam term, and expect the heaviest weeks to be the internal deadline weeks rather than the exam weeks.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

IB Middle Years Programme

Criterion-referenced assessment across eight subject groups, ending in the Personal Project. Spending here is usually low and well targeted: a term of support to fix a specific criterion weakness, most often in mathematics or sciences, rather than a continuous arrangement. Families who buy continuous MYP tutoring without a diagnosed gap tend to get the least per dirham of any group.

Fewer Mussafah schools run the MYP than run the British route, so a family here often meets it only after a transfer. The first useful spend is two sessions explaining how criterion marks differ from percentages, because parents reading an MYP report as though it were a percentage grade make poor decisions about what to buy.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

Two years ending in external papers, with no Internal Assessment on most mathematics syllabuses. Spending is therefore concentrated and short: a diagnostic block to establish what is wrong, then a term or two of weekly sessions, then timed-paper work before the series. It is the best value programme to support because the target is narrow and measurable.

Both Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel entries exist across Mussafah and Mohammed Bin Zayed City schools. Before spending anything, get the syllabus code and the tier in writing, because a Core or Foundation entry caps the grade and no amount of late tutoring changes that. Checking the entry costs one email and can save a full term of fees.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Cost per subject varies with how much of the grade sits in coursework and how scarce the specialism is. These are the subjects Mussafah families most often pay for, with the cost driver named.

IB Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

SL and HL

The most requested and among the most expensive to support, because Higher Level adds a third paper and the exploration carries a fifth of the grade. Two years of fortnightly support usually costs less than one panicked exam term of twice-weekly sessions.

IB Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

SL and HL

Cheaper to support than Analysis and Approaches at the same level, because much of the work is modelling and interpretation that a student can practise independently once the method is taught. The exploration is still a fifth of the grade.

IB Chemistry

SL and HL

Cost is driven by the scientific investigation and by organic chemistry, which almost every student needs taught twice. Families who book supervision hours for the investigation early pay less than those who book crisis hours a fortnight before the internal deadline.

IB Physics

SL and HL

The algebra is the bottleneck rather than the physics, so a maths repair block often does more for a physics grade than physics sessions do. That substitution is one of the cheapest wins available in an IB budget.

IB Economics

SL and HL

Diagram accuracy and the difference between explain and evaluate carry the marks, and the portfolio commentaries need structured feedback rather than many hours. A short, well-timed block is better value than a continuous arrangement.

Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580

Core and Extended

The cheapest subject to fix well, because the target is specific: non-calculator fluency, visible method, and the back-of-paper multi-step questions. Six to ten sessions often moves a grade when the losses are method rather than content.

Cambridge IGCSE Physics 0625 and Chemistry 0620

Core and Extended

Usually bought alongside maths, and the overlap makes them better value together than separately. Equation rearrangement, mole arithmetic and command-term discipline cover most of the marks at stake.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics A 4MA1

Foundation and Higher

Two calculator papers graded 9 to 1. Cost is lowest when the tier is confirmed early, because a Foundation entry caps the grade at 5 and a family paying for Higher-level preparation on a Foundation entry is paying for nothing.

IB Internal Assessment, Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge supervision

DP core

Priced by the block rather than by the hour in most of the market. The work is teaching the criteria and giving feedback on the student's own drafts; nobody should be paying anyone to produce this work, and one provider in this search sells exactly that.

Arabic and UAE Social Studies

School-dependent

Mandatory alongside the licensed curriculum in UAE private schools, and a hidden cost in timetable terms rather than in fees. Budget the hours, not just the dirhams, when planning a Year 11 or Diploma Year 2 revision programme.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

The pattern you buy affects the total more than the hourly rate does. These three cover almost every Mussafah budget, all delivered one-to-one over live video.

Diagnostic block of four to six sessions

The cheapest useful purchase in this market. It answers two questions: is the current tier or level right, and which of the four error categories is costing the marks. It ends with a written diagnosis you can take to the school, and no obligation to continue. Families who buy a long cheap block before a diagnosis almost always end up paying for both.

  • Starts with a full paper sat cold and marked against the scheme
  • Errors classified as method, arithmetic, reading or unknown content
  • Written tier or level recommendation at the end
  • Nothing renews automatically

Fortnightly support across two Diploma years

The lower-total option for an IB family, and the one most often overlooked. Fortnightly sessions from the start of Diploma Year 1, concentrated around internal assessment deadlines rather than spread evenly, usually cost less across two years than a single twice-weekly exam term and produce better internal marks because the coursework was supervised while it was being written.

  • Session frequency rises before internal deadlines and falls after them
  • Internal Assessment criteria taught by letter, with feedback on the student's own drafts
  • Paper technique added from the middle of Year 2
  • Total hours planned at the start so the spend is predictable

Exam-term intensive

The most expensive per unit of gain, and sometimes the right purchase anyway. Twice weekly for six to ten weeks: one content session, one timed paper with the mark scheme read afterwards. It works when the diagnosis names a short list; it is poor value when it is being used to cover a syllabus that was never learned, which is the single most common waste in this market.

  • Only bought after a diagnosis, never instead of one
  • Full papers sat to real duration
  • A running list of the three topics still losing most marks
  • Frequency cut during the school's own assessment weeks

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Mussafah

01

What each AED band actually buys, from the bottom up

The published bands in this market are not arbitrary and they are not a quality ladder either. Each one corresponds to a different thing being sold. At AED 33 to 65 an hour, which is where Tutopiya and EdFlik advertise their entry tiers, you are buying supervised practice: someone able to do the work, keep a student on task, and answer questions. For a Year 8 or Year 9 student who will not sit down without company, that is correctly priced and genuinely useful.

At AED 150 to 300, the band where Unitors publishes IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200, you are buying subject teaching: someone who knows the syllabus, has taught it before, and can explain the same idea three different ways when the first two fail. This is the band most exam-year students actually need. Above it, at AED 200 to 450 and beyond, with TutorChase publishing AED 270, you are buying mark-scheme knowledge: someone who has marked the paper, knows what each mark is awarded for, and can tell a student exactly why a correct answer scored two out of four. At AED 500 to 650, where BartyED publishes AED 650, you are buying scarcity and reputation, which is sometimes worth it for a narrow, late, high-stakes repair and is otherwise a transfer of money.

The practical rule that follows is about matching rather than about maximising. Pay the practice band for practice, the teaching band for teaching, and the mark-scheme band in the final term of an exam year when the difference between a 6 and a 7 is technique rather than content. Families who pay the top band all the way through, and families who pay the bottom band all the way through, both overspend; the first in dirhams, the second in outcomes. IB Gram publishes no rate card on this page. The trial lesson is free with no card required, and the quote follows the diagnosis so it is attached to a plan.

Five ways tutoring money is wasted in Abu Dhabi

  • Hours bought before a diagnosis: the largest single waste
  • Preparing for a grade the entry tier cannot award
  • Band mismatch in either direction, over or under
  • A weekly slot the household cannot actually protect
  • Coursework supervision bought in the fortnight before the deadline

The first and largest waste is buying hours before a diagnosis. A family notices a grade slipping, buys twelve sessions, and the tutor spends them re-teaching the syllabus because nobody established what was actually wrong. In most cases the losses were method, pacing and reading rather than content, and six sessions aimed at those would have moved the grade. A diagnostic block of four to six sessions costs less than half the twelve and tells you where to spend the rest.

The second is paying for the wrong tier. An IGCSE candidate entered for Cambridge 0580 Core cannot be awarded above a C, and a Pearson Edexcel 4MA1 Foundation entry caps at grade 5. A family paying for top-grade preparation on a capped entry is buying something that cannot be delivered, and the fix is an email to the exams officer in Year 10 rather than a term of fees in Year 11. The third is the mismatch in either direction: a premium examiner-led tutor drilling arithmetic with a Year 8 student, or a budget tutor sitting with a Diploma Higher Level candidate eight weeks before the papers.

The fourth is the slot that nobody can keep. A weekly session at a time the household cannot protect becomes fortnightly, then monthly, and the money already committed buys a fraction of the intended teaching. In this part of the emirate that is usually a scheduling arithmetic failure rather than a commitment failure. The fifth is late coursework supervision. An IB Internal Assessment is worth around a fifth of the subject grade, and buying crisis hours a fortnight before the internal deadline costs several times what the same hours cost spread across the months when the work was being planned and drafted. Of the five, this is the one with the largest gap between the cheap version and the expensive version of the same outcome.

03

Counting in hours: a two-year Diploma plan against one IGCSE term

Hourly rates make incomparable things look comparable. The question a household actually faces is what the whole course costs, and the two common shapes are completely different financial objects. An IGCSE intervention is short and narrow: a diagnostic block, a term of weekly sessions, then timed-paper work before the series. Call it twenty to thirty hours in total, concentrated inside one academic year.

A two-year IB Diploma plan with support in two subjects is a different order of commitment. Fortnightly across two years in two subjects is roughly eighty hours, plus supervision blocks for two Internal Assessments and the Extended Essay. Spread across twenty-four months, however, the monthly figure is often lower than the exam-term intensive a panicking family buys in the final spring, and the internal marks are better because the coursework was supervised while it was being produced rather than reviewed after it was finished.

The table sets both out at the published mid band so a family can see the shape rather than the slogan. Two cautions on reading it. These are market rates from provider pages and not IB Gram prices; our trial is free and our quote follows a diagnosis. And no plan of any size should be bought on the promise of a grade. Nobody can promise an outcome in an externally assessed qualification, and a provider who does is telling you something about their marketing rather than about their teaching. Read the table as a shape rather than as a quotation: the hours in the left column are what these plans typically take, and a household with a clear diagnosis often needs fewer, while a student who changed curriculum mid-course usually needs more.

Provider models compared, since near me includes four different businesses

A Mussafah search for a tutor nearby returns at least four kinds of business, and they are priced differently because they sell different things. An agency matches you to a tutor and takes a margin for vetting and replacement; a marketplace lists tutors and leaves the choice to you at a lower price and a higher risk of mismatch; an independent freelance tutor is usually cheapest for the same qualification level and carries no replacement arrangement if it goes wrong; a tuition centre with premises sells group teaching at a low per-student rate and a correspondingly low level of individual attention.

The right comparison is therefore not price against price but what happens when something fails. If the tutor is competent and wrong for the student, who changes them, and at whose cost? If a session is cancelled, is the hour lost? If the subject specialism turns out to be approximate, is there a second option? Those questions cost nothing to ask and they are the difference between a term of teaching and a term of politeness.

Two cautions worth more than any price comparison. First, a tutoring operation with premises and staff is a regulated entity: in Dubai that means a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, and in Abu Dhabi the emirate regulator is ADEK. An individual tutor needs the MoHRE private tuition work permit, which is granted free of charge for two years. Ask which applies to whoever you are paying. Second, be sceptical of self-published ratings. Competitor pages in this research showed two different review totals on the same page, and one showed a perfect score from twenty reviews alongside a far larger claim about the number of students taught. A rating nobody can audit is decoration.

IB and IGCSE side by side: what the money is preparing for

A page covering both boards owes a parent the difference, because the spend follows the assessment design. IGCSE mathematics on Cambridge 0580 or Pearson Edexcel 4MA1 is externally assessed by written papers, with no Internal Assessment on the main mathematics syllabuses. All the preparation value therefore sits in paper technique, which is why short, well-aimed interventions work so well and why the total cost is low relative to the stakes.

The IB Diploma is a different object. Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches at Standard Level is assessed by two papers, one without a calculator and one with, each carrying forty per cent, with the exploration carrying the remaining twenty. At Higher Level there are three papers at thirty, thirty and twenty per cent, with the exploration again at twenty. Applications and Interpretation permits a calculator in both Standard Level papers. The consequence for a budget is that a fifth of the grade is produced at home over months, under supervision, and cannot be revised for in a final sprint.

That single structural fact explains most of the spending mistakes this page warns about. Families budget for exams and get surprised by coursework. The Extended Essay runs to a 4,000-word ceiling and the Theory of Knowledge essay to 1,600 words, both produced across months. Supervision of those is cheap when planned and expensive when urgent. One more boundary, stated plainly: a tutor teaches the criteria, works comparable examples and gives feedback on your child's own drafts. Nobody should be paying anyone to produce coursework, and one provider in this search sells completed Internal Assessments outright, which exposes the student to malpractice proceedings rather than the seller.

Questions to ask before you pay anyone in this market

  • Which syllabus code and tier have you taught, and when?
  • Do you hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit, and may I see it?
  • Who changes a poor match, and at whose cost?
  • How is progress reported, and in what units?
  • What will you not do with an Internal Assessment or Extended Essay?
  • What is the sample size, date and method behind any statistic you publish?

Most of the risk in this purchase can be removed with six questions, and none of them is about price. The first is which syllabus code and tier the tutor has taught, and when. A tutor who has taught Cambridge 0580 Extended and marked it is a different proposition from one who is good at mathematics generally, and the difference is invisible in a profile description. The second is whether they hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit, which is free of charge for two years under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. If a fee is quoted for the permit itself, that tells you something.

Third, what happens if the match is wrong, and who bears the cost of changing. Fourth, how progress will be reported, and in what units. An answer about confidence is not a measurement; an answer about timed questions and classified errors is. Fifth, what the provider will not do: ask directly whether they will help with an Internal Assessment, and listen carefully to the answer. The right answer involves teaching criteria and giving feedback on the student's own work. Any version that involves producing, drafting or completing it should end the conversation.

Sixth, ask what any statistic on their page is based on. Several providers in this market publish satisfaction percentages, student counts and ratings with no sample size, date or method, and at least one shows two contradictory review totals on a single page. We publish none of those figures for the same reason we would not accept them from anyone else: we could not show you the underlying data. What we will show you is a free diagnostic trial, a written plan with a topic order, and a review at six sessions measured on timed questions, with the tutor changed if the match is wrong.

07

Why distance is a price signal in Abu Dhabi, not a quality signal

  • In-home quotes rise with distance from the island, which is travel, not quality
  • The syllabus and grade boundaries are identical across the emirate
  • Proximity narrows the tutor pool, which is where grades are lost
  • Screen supervision and visible working are real trade-offs: test them in the trial

The near me search assumes proximity is a proxy for something. In this market it is a proxy for one thing only: the travel cost embedded in an in-home rate. Published figures put in-home one-to-one at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour including travel against AED 150 to 300 for a qualified online subject tutor, and the clearest evidence that the gap is travel rather than teaching is that in-home quotes sit lower on the island, where journeys are short, and higher in Al Shamkha and Al Wathba, where they are long.

Proximity does not improve the teaching, because the syllabus, the papers and the grade boundaries are identical for every candidate in the emirate. What proximity constrains is choice. A Mussafah family choosing in-home is choosing among tutors willing to drive into the belt at the evening peak, which is a much smaller group than the set of people who teach that syllabus well. The usual outcome is a competent generalist rather than a specialist, and that substitution is the one trade in this market that reliably costs marks rather than dirhams.

There are real losses in going online and they deserve naming rather than burying. A young or distractible student is harder to supervise through a screen. Written working needs a tablet and stylus, or a phone propped over paper, for the tutor to see method as it forms. Both are worth testing in a free trial rather than assuming. IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE, and home visits are a service available only in India, so if a physical presence in the room is what your child needs, buy it from the local market with the travel premium understood. This page would rather tell you that than take the booking.

Where we tutor

Where near me reaches from Mussafah, and what it costs to cross

Distance has a price in this emirate, and it is paid either in travel premium or in commute time. These are the communities inside the Mussafah search radius and what the crossing costs.

Mussafah and Shabia

The search origin. Dense with schools and short on resident subject specialists, so a nearby in-home tutor is usually a generalist and a specialist in-home visit arrives with a travel premium on top of the AED 180 to 500 band.

Mohammed Bin Zayed City

Immediately east and sharing catchments. Travel between the two is short in theory and slow at the evening peak, which is why in-home quotes here rarely sit at the bottom of the published range.

Baniyas

Mainland residential whose students travel into the Mussafah belt for school. For tutoring the money question is identical, and the in-home premium is higher again because fewer specialists live east of the industrial districts.

Khalifa City and Al Raha

The emirate's largest concentration of international-school capacity and of resident specialists. In-home rates here sit lower in the band because travel is shorter, which is the clearest evidence that the premium is travel rather than teaching.

Al Shamkha and Al Wathba

Further out, newer, and the most expensive places in the emirate to buy an in-home visit, because the journey is long in both directions. Online pricing does not change with any of this.

Al Reef and Al Ghadeer

On the Dubai road, where some households split schooling across two emirates. Two term calendars means two revision windows, and families here often buy fewer sessions spread over more months.

Abu Dhabi island

Short commutes and the deepest local tutor pool, which is why island families see the lowest in-home quotes. A Mussafah family comparing itself to an island friend's rate is usually comparing travel distance, not quality.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Mussafah

Mussafah, Shabia and Mohammed Bin Zayed City

A mix of Indian-curriculum and British-curriculum provision, with IGCSE the dominant Year 11 qualification on the British route. Families comparing fees and tutoring costs across this cluster are usually comparing schools with similar fee bands and quite different exam boards.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Say what you are trying to buy

Tell us the board, the subject, the level or tier, and the budget shape you have in mind: a diagnosis, a term, or two years. A plan priced against a budget is more useful than a rate quoted against nothing, and it lets us say early if what you want costs more than you expect.

  2. 02

Free trial lesson used as a diagnostic

A working session, not a sales call, with no card required. The tutor pitches questions at the level, watches the method rather than the answers, and names which of the four error categories is costing the most marks. You can take that diagnosis and go no further.

  3. 03

A written plan with the hours counted

You receive the topic order, the reason for each position, and the total hours the plan needs. Counting hours at the start is what stops a household discovering in March that it has spent twice what it intended on half the teaching it needed.

Sessions in Gulf Standard Time, frequency matched to the calendar

A fixed slot that your household can actually keep, with frequency rising before internal deadlines and exam series and falling during the school's own assessment weeks. Sessions move to post-Iftar timing during Ramadan on request.

Review at six sessions, and a tutor change if needed

Progress is reported on timed questions, not impressions, with the three topics still losing most marks named. If the match is wrong we change the tutor, because the most expensive failure in this market is a family persisting politely with a mismatch.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The prices on this page are sourced

Every AED band names the provider that published it and the research date. None of the competitor pages measured for this project cites a source for a single AED figure, and three publish no price at all, which makes value impossible to judge before you spend.

We count hours, not just rates

An hourly figure hides the only number a household cares about. The cost model here sets a two-year Diploma plan against one IGCSE term so you can compare the actual commitments rather than two numbers that describe different things.

The diagnosis comes before the hours

The largest waste in this market is buying twelve sessions before anyone has established what is wrong. A four-to-six session diagnostic block costs less than half of that and tells you where the rest should go, or that it is not needed.

No rate card, no pressure, no auto-renewal

The trial is free with no card required, the quote follows the diagnosis, and nothing renews by itself. A family can buy a diagnosis, take the written plan to the school and stop there without any further conversation.

No statistics we cannot evidence

We publish no satisfaction percentage, no score-improvement figure and no self-asserted rating, because we could not show you the sample size, date and method. Several providers in this market publish contradictory review totals on a single page.

The delivery model is stated up front

Lessons are one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; that service exists only in India. If a physical presence is what your child needs, this page says so plainly rather than taking the booking.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Mussafah: your questions answered

What does an IB or IGCSE tutor near Mussafah actually cost per hour?+

Published Abu Dhabi market bands run wide. Budget online tutoring is advertised from roughly AED 45 to 150 an hour, with EdFlik from AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52. A qualified online subject tutor sits at roughly AED 150 to 300, with Unitors listing IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. Specialists run AED 200 to 450 and above, TutorChase publishing AED 270, and premium examiner-led provision reaches AED 650 at BartyED. In-home visits including travel are quoted at AED 180 to 500. Those are provider figures, not IB Gram prices.

Is the cheapest tutoring in Abu Dhabi a saving or a false economy?+

It depends entirely on what the student needs. At AED 33 to 65 an hour you are buying supervised practice: someone who can do the work and keep a student on task. For a Year 8 or Year 9 child who will not start without company, that is correctly priced and useful. For an exam-year candidate who needs to know why a correct answer scored two out of four, it is a wasted term, because mark-scheme knowledge is what the higher bands are selling. Match the band to the need rather than maximising or minimising the rate.

Why does an in-home tutor in Mussafah cost more than an online one?+

Because travel is inside the price. Published figures put in-home one-to-one at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour including travel against AED 150 to 300 for a qualified online subject tutor. The clearest proof that the gap is travel rather than teaching is that in-home quotes sit lower on Abu Dhabi island, where journeys are short, and higher in Al Shamkha and Al Wathba, where they are long. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE at all; home visits are available only in India.

How much should a Mussafah family budget for two years of IB Diploma support?+

At the published mid band of AED 150 to 300 an hour, fortnightly support in one subject across two Diploma years is roughly forty to forty-four hours, or about AED 6,000 to 13,200 in total. Two subjects doubles that. A supervision block for the Extended Essay adds eight to ten hours. Spread across twenty-four months the monthly figure is often lower than a single twice-weekly exam term bought in panic, and the internal marks tend to be better because coursework was supervised while it was being written.

What is the single most common way tutoring money is wasted here?+

Buying hours before a diagnosis. A grade slips, a family buys twelve sessions, and the tutor spends them re-teaching a syllabus the student mostly knows, because nobody established what was actually going wrong. In most cases the losses are method, pacing and reading rather than content, and six well-aimed sessions would have moved the grade. A four-to-six session diagnostic block costs less than half of the twelve and tells you where the rest of the money should go, or whether it is needed at all.

Could we be paying for a grade my child's exam entry cannot award?+

Yes, and it happens regularly. Cambridge grades the 0580 Core route C to G, so an A is unavailable on that entry. Pearson Edexcel 4MA1 caps the Foundation tier at grade 5 while Higher runs 9 to 4. A family paying for top-grade preparation on a capped entry is buying something that cannot be delivered. Ask the exams officer for the syllabus code and the tier in writing during Year 10, while a change is still administratively possible. That email costs nothing and can save a full term of fees.

Does the Internal Assessment change how much IB support costs?+

Substantially, because around a fifth of each IB subject grade is produced at home across months rather than in an exam hall. That part cannot be revised for in a final sprint, so a budget built only around exam term will be surprised. Supervision is cheap when it is planned into the months the work is being drafted and expensive when bought as crisis hours a fortnight before the internal deadline. The Extended Essay runs to a 4,000-word ceiling and the Theory of Knowledge essay to 1,600 words, both on the same long timescale.

Can I pay someone to write my child's Internal Assessment or Extended Essay?+

You should not, and we will not. A tutor teaches what the criteria reward, works a comparable example on a different problem, and gives feedback on your child's own drafts. Producing the work, supplying submittable text or editing a draft until the thinking is no longer the student's crosses into malpractice, and the consequences fall on the student rather than on the seller. One provider ranking for these searches sells completed Internal Assessments outright. Treat that as a reason to avoid them rather than as a service option.

Which is better value for a Year 11 student: a tuition centre group or one-to-one?+

A group at a centre is cheaper per student and cannot follow one student's gaps, which is the whole point of the purchase when losses are specific. If the diagnosis says the student is broadly behind across a syllabus, a group can work. If it says the losses are method, pacing and three named topics, group pace will not touch them. The honest sequence is a short diagnostic block first, then choose, because the diagnosis also tells you whether the cheaper option would work.

What should I ask a tutor in this market before I pay anything?+

Six questions, none about price. Which syllabus code and tier have you taught, and when? Do you hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit, and may I see it? Who changes a poor match, and at whose cost? How is progress reported, and in what units? What will you not do with an Internal Assessment? And what is the sample size, date and method behind any statistic on your page? A provider who answers all six clearly is a different proposition from one who answers on price alone.

Is the private tutor permit something I pay for as the parent?+

No. The private tuition work permit is the tutor's responsibility, it was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, it is issued through MoHRE, and it is granted free of charge for two years. MoHRE's own service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. If anyone asks you to cover a permit fee, that is a clear warning sign about the arrangement rather than a cost of tutoring.

Are the ratings and student numbers on tutoring sites in this market reliable?+

Treat them with caution. In the pages researched for this project, one provider showed two different review totals on the same page, and another showed a perfect score from twenty reviews alongside a far larger claim about the number of students taught. A rating nobody can audit is decoration, and self-asserted review markup is against Google's structured-data policy as well as being a commercial representation. Ask for the sample size, the date and the method. We publish no such figures ourselves, for exactly that reason.

Do group discounts or sibling rates exist for Mussafah households with two children?+

In the wider market, yes, and the published monthly packages are the usual form: around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions, or AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home visits. Read the terms rather than the headline. The questions that matter are whether unused sessions roll over, how long a package stays valid, whether both children must take the same subject, and what happens if one child needs a different tutor. A package that cannot be split across two needs is cheaper per hour and more expensive per useful hour.

If we only have budget for six sessions, what should they be spent on?+

A diagnostic block, which is the highest-value six hours available in this market. The first session sits a full paper cold. Every lost mark is then classified as a method error, an arithmetic slip, a misread question or genuine unknown content. The remaining sessions attack whichever category is largest, and the block ends with a written statement naming the three topics still losing the most marks and whether the entry tier or level is right. You can take that to the school and spend nothing further.

Does paying more improve the odds of a particular grade?+

Nobody can promise an outcome in an externally assessed qualification, and a provider who does is describing their marketing rather than their teaching. What more money reliably buys is a closer match: someone who has taught and marked the exact paper, who can explain why a correct answer scored two out of four, and who can say which three topics are still costing marks. That raises the quality of the work and still leaves the grade with the student on the day. We publish no score-improvement figures because we could not evidence one.

Buy the diagnosis before you buy the hours

If you are weighing up what tutoring should cost for a Mussafah household, the cheapest useful move is also the first one. Ask the school for the syllabus code and the tier, or the IB subject and level, in writing. Then book a free trial lesson with no card required and let the tutor sit your child at the right level and watch the method. At the end you will know which error category is costing the most marks, whether the entry can deliver the grade you are aiming at, and how many hours the plan actually needs. Lessons run one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time. If the written diagnosis is all you want, take it and spend nothing further.
