IB Exam Preparation in Abu Dhabi

IB exam preparation in Abu Dhabi is bought in the final stretch of the Diploma, when the internal assessments are largely in and the written papers are what is left. This page prices that stretch honestly: what each phase of the final year is worth paying for, the AED bands the market actually charges, where exam-season money gets wasted, and how to read a mock result before committing to hours. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

  • Spend plan by phase, not a single hourly rate quoted in isolation
  • Market AED bands attributed to published trackers and provider pages
  • A written list of what exam-season hours cannot change at this point

IB & IGCSE in Abu Dhabi

Price the phase, not the hour

Parents searching for IB exam preparation in Abu Dhabi are usually asking a cost question underneath the subject question. They have been quoted an hourly rate, sometimes two very different ones, and they cannot tell what either number buys. The hourly rate is the least informative figure in this market. What decides the bill is how many weeks you buy, in how many subjects, at which phase of the final year, and whether the hours are spent on something the remaining time can actually change.

The final year of the Diploma divides into phases that behave differently and cost differently. There is the pre-mock phase, where content gaps can still be closed and an hour of teaching is cheap relative to what it returns. There is the mock-aftermath phase, where the useful work is diagnosis and reallocation. There is the study-leave phase, where sessions get shorter, more frequent and more expensive per hour of calendar time because slots are scarce. And there is the week before each paper, which is worth almost nothing to buy and a great deal to plan.

Rates in this emirate are not a mystery either, they are simply unpublished by most providers. Rate trackers and provider pages put qualified online subject tutoring at roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour, IB and IGCSE specialists at AED 200 to 450 and above, in-home visiting work at AED 180 to 500 with travel inside the fee, and premium named tutors above that again. Monthly estimates for a weekly hour run around AED 240 to 600 at the budget end and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Those are market observations from October 2026, attributed to the sources that published them, and they are not IB Gram's price list.

What a family can control is allocation. Six subjects plus the core is more surface area than any budget covers properly, so the spending decision is really a triage decision: which two or three subjects have the most recoverable marks per hour, which ones are safe enough to leave alone, and which are so far behind that money spent there buys a smaller grade change than the same money spent elsewhere. That judgement needs a marked paper, not a conversation.

So this page is organised as a spend plan. It sets out what each phase is worth, what the market charges for it, the four ways exam-season money is most reliably wasted in Abu Dhabi, how to read a mock before you buy anything, and what the November session costs a family who decides a subject needs a second attempt. Every figure is labelled with where it came from. Where we do not have a sourced number, including for examination entry fees, the page says so and points you at the body that sets it.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Exam preparation means something different at each stage of the IB continuum, and the cost profile changes with it. Three stages matter to an Abu Dhabi family planning spend across the school years rather than just the final term.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Criterion-referenced assessment with no external written papers for most students, so exam preparation here is really preparation for being examined later: timed writing under pressure, reading a criterion as a specification, and keeping a usable set of notes. Money spent in MYP 4 and 5 is the cheapest exam preparation a family will ever buy, because it is preventative.

Abu Dhabi families often move children into the Diploma from MYP within the same school, which hides the size of the step. The jump that catches candidates here is the shift from criteria written in sentences to mark schemes that reward specific command-term behaviours, and a few hours in the final MYP year is the least expensive way to meet it.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects plus Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay, assessed through internal work completed across two years and written papers sat at the end. Exam preparation spend concentrates in the second year, and the allocation question is which of the six subjects returns the most marks per hour once the internally assessed components are already submitted.

Diploma candidates in this emirate normally sit the May session, which puts the heaviest spending window in the first months of the calendar year. Abu Dhabi's school calendars, Ramadan timings and study-leave arrangements all land inside that window, which is why the plan is built against the family's real availability before any hours are priced.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme and course candidates

Students taking individual IB courses rather than the full Diploma, or combining IB courses with a career-related study, still sit the same external papers in those subjects. The budget is usually smaller and more focused, often a single subject where a grade is needed for a specific university or progression requirement.

This is the group most likely to be quoted for a short, single-subject block in Abu Dhabi, and the group for whom the phase question matters most: buying six weeks before the paper and buying six months before it are different products at a similar hourly rate.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

The subjects below are where Abu Dhabi families most often concentrate final-phase spend, with a note on what the written papers reward. Confirm the exact components and weightings for your child's course in the current subject guide the school issues, because these are revised between cohorts.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The usual first call on an exam-season budget, because its lost marks are patterned and recoverable: method marks sacrificed by writing no working, proof questions abandoned at the first line, and calculator papers attempted without the calculator strategy the paper assumes.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Rewards modelling and interpretation in context, which candidates trained on pure technique find harder than the algebra. Final-phase hours go on reading a scenario, choosing a model and justifying the choice in writing rather than on computation.

Physics

HL and SL

Marks concentrate in the extended-response and data-analysis questions, where candidates who know the physics lose marks for not quoting values from the graph or stating an assumption. Uncertainty treatment is a finite, drillable gap.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Organic mechanisms and energetics are the recurring content gaps, but the faster recovery is usually in command-term discipline: stating an observation where the paper asked for an explanation costs marks on knowledge the candidate already has.

Biology

HL and SL

Content volume makes re-reading feel productive and practice feel punishing, which is why the marks sit in precise terminology and in data questions where the trend is described without the figures that earn the mark.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagram accuracy is an examinable skill: axes labelled, the correct curve shifted, the new equilibrium marked. Evaluation marks are the other recoverable block, lost by candidates who analyse thoroughly and then stop before judging.

Business Management

HL and SL

Case-study papers reward application to the specific organisation in front of the candidate. Generic answers that would fit any firm score in the lower bands, and that habit is correctable inside a few weeks of focused practice.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Written papers reward a controlled argument about how a text produces meaning, not a summary of what it says. Final-phase work is mostly timed essay practice with annotated marking against the assessment criteria.

Psychology

HL and SL

Study recall is finite and therefore cheap to finish, while the expensive gap is evaluation: candidates describe a study accurately and then fail to say what it fails to show. Short repeated drills move this faster than content revision.

Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay

Core components

By the final phase these are usually submitted and the mark is fixed, which matters for the budget: money spent here late buys nothing. Where they are still open, support is feedback on the student's own draft and nothing beyond that.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Exam-season support is bought in three shapes in this market, and they price very differently per unit of calendar time. All three run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

Phase block, pre-mock

A fixed number of weeks bought before the school's mock window, aimed at closing content gaps while there is still time for content to matter. This is the cheapest phase per mark recovered, because an hour spent here can still change what a candidate knows rather than only how they write it down.

  • Weekly or twice-weekly, booked as a block with an end date
  • Content-led, with one timed section each week to check transfer
  • Ends at the mock, deliberately, so the mock reads as evidence
  • Reviewed against the mock script before any further hours are bought

Diagnostic and reallocation, post-mock

Two to four sessions per subject whose only purpose is to mark and interpret the mock scripts and produce a written allocation plan. Families frequently buy fewer total hours after this than they had budgeted, because the scripts show two of the six subjects do not need them.

  • Mock scripts marked against the published scheme, mark by mark
  • A marks-per-topic sheet per subject, comparable across subjects
  • A written allocation plan naming which subjects get hours and which do not
  • A statement of what the remaining weeks cannot change

Study-leave clinic

Short, frequent sessions in the weeks when papers are actually sat, built entirely around scripts the candidate has already attempted. Per hour this is the most expensive phase in the market because slots are scarce, and the hours bought should be fewer and more targeted than earlier blocks.

  • Forty-five to sixty minutes, up to four times a week
  • Morning slots preferred, matching the time papers are sat
  • No new content unless the candidate asks for it
  • A one-page per-paper timing plan written and kept

01

What IB exam preparation costs in Abu Dhabi, phase by phase

The direct answer: a specialist IB tutor working online in this market is quoted in the region of AED 200 to 450 an hour, a qualified non-specialist subject tutor AED 150 to 300, and premium named tutors above that. A rate tracker's monthly estimates for one weekly hour run AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. All of those are market figures published in October 2026 by providers and trackers, not IB Gram prices, which are quoted after a diagnostic.

The number that decides your bill, though, is the number of hours, and that follows the phase. A pre-mock block in two subjects at one session a week for ten weeks is twenty hours. A post-mock diagnostic across four subjects is eight to twelve hours and then stops. A study-leave clinic in one subject at four short sessions a week for three weeks is around nine hours. Those are very different totals at a similar hourly rate, and families who negotiate the rate while leaving the hours unplanned usually spend more.

The phase also changes what the money buys per mark. Content teaching before the mock is cheap per mark because the candidate still has time to consolidate. Diagnosis after the mock is the highest-value purchase in the whole year, because it decides where everything else goes. Technique work in study leave is narrow but reliable. The week before a specific paper is close to worthless to buy and genuinely valuable to plan, which costs nothing.

The table applies the published market bands to realistic phase shapes so the totals are comparable. Treat the AED column as the market's range, not a quotation.

02

Four ways exam-season money gets wasted here

  • Content re-teaching after a mock that diagnosed a technique fault
  • Hours allocated by anxiety rather than by marks per hour
  • Two-hour minimum sessions whose length exists to justify travel
  • Any spend against components that are already submitted and marked

The first is paying for content re-teaching after the mock. Once the mock script shows that marks are being lost to working omission, command-term misreading and timing, buying more content coverage treats the wrong fault at full price. This is the single most common exam-season purchase in this market and the one with the weakest return, because it is also the easiest thing for a tutor to sell and to deliver.

The second is buying hours in the subject the family worries about most rather than the subject with the most recoverable marks. Worry is not evidence. A candidate frightened of Physics and quietly losing fifteen reachable marks in Economics should be spending on Economics, and only a marked script says so. Spreading hours evenly across six subjects is the same error in a politer form.

The third is the two-hour minimum. In-home visiting work in this emirate is commonly quoted at two hours, because the travel has to be worth the trip, and market rates of AED 180 to 500 an hour include that travel. In exam season, four forty-five-minute sessions beat one two-hour visit for technique work, because technique is built by frequent correction. Paying for the length of a session that exists to justify a drive is paying for the drive.

The fourth is late spending on components that are already closed. Internal assessments, the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge are usually submitted before the final phase, and once submitted the mark is fixed. Hours bought against them buy nothing. A provider who takes that booking without saying so is selling calendar time, and the honest answer costs them the hours.

03

Reading a mock script before you release a budget

A mock percentage is the least useful artefact the school will give you, and it is the one most families buy tutoring from. Two candidates on 54 can need completely different interventions costing completely different amounts. The script tells you which, and it tells you in four categories: marks lost to content not known, marks lost to technique on content that was known, marks lost to timing, and marks lost to question selection or misreading.

Those four categories price differently. Content gaps are the most expensive to close and the slowest. Technique faults are cheap, fast and transfer across every paper in the subject. Timing is a two or three session fix. Question selection is often a single conversation. A script with eighteen marks in the technique and timing categories is a far better purchase than a script with eighteen marks of missing content, at the same hourly rate.

So the order is: get the scripts, have them marked against the published scheme, categorise the losses, then decide the budget. A diagnostic of eight to twelve hours across four subjects, bought once, routinely reduces the total spend because it closes two subjects down. Families who skip it tend to buy a flat weekly commitment in four subjects for twelve weeks and never find out which two mattered.

Ask the school for the scripts rather than the grades. Schools in this emirate vary in how readily they release them, and it is worth asking early, before the mock rather than after it.

WHERE THE MOCK MARKS WENT — THE CATEGORY, THE COST TO FIX, THE WINDOW

04

The November session and the cost of a second attempt

Where one subject is clearly not going to land, a family's real options are to spend more on it now, to accept the grade, or to plan a retake in a later session. That last option has a cost structure most providers never discuss, and it is worth setting out before the May papers rather than after the results. A retake means a further entry through a centre, a further period of tutoring at the same market rates, and a delay to whatever the grade was needed for.

Diploma candidates in Abu Dhabi normally sit the May session, and a November sitting exists as an alternative. We do not publish IB session or results dates on this page, because the IB's own site cannot be verified by automated checking and an unverified date on a fee-paying decision is worse than no date. Confirm every IB date with your child's Diploma coordinator or on ibo.org directly, and plan the retake decision around what they confirm.

The entry fee question gets the same treatment. Examination entry is handled through the school as the centre, or through an approved centre for a candidate entering independently, and those bodies set the fees. We do not quote figures we have not read on the setting body's own page. Ask the coordinator for the entry cost, the deadline and whether the school will enter a candidate for a later session at all, because not every school does.

The decision table below is the one to fill in with your own numbers once the coordinator has answered. It is deliberately short, because the arithmetic is simple as soon as the three unknowns are filled in.

05

What you are entitled to ask before paying anything

  • Which components of this exact subject the tutor has taught and marked
  • Whether a marked script lands inside the first fortnight
  • What happens to hours you have paid for and do not use
  • Who teaches, by name, and whether they change mid-block
  • A written statement of what the remaining weeks cannot change

Exam season is when providers are least likely to be questioned and most likely to be paid in advance, so it is the right time to be awkward. There are five questions that cost nothing to ask and change what you buy. Which exact components of this subject has the tutor taught before. Will a marked script be produced in the first fortnight. What happens to unused hours. Who is actually teaching, as opposed to who appears on the website. And what is the stated limit of what these weeks can do.

The fifth is the one that separates a tutor from a salesperson. Nobody can promise a grade or a point improvement, and any provider promising a particular score, a fixed rise in points, or money back against a result is describing something they cannot control. The honest version is a written statement of what the remaining weeks can address and what they cannot, produced after the diagnostic and before the hours are committed.

The permit question is also legitimate and easy to ask. Individuals giving private lessons in the UAE need the MoHRE private tuition work permit introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023; it is granted free of charge for two years, and MoHRE's own service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time. Press reporting on ADEK's professional-ethics rules also indicates that Abu Dhabi school staff may not take paid private tutoring work with students enrolled at their own school, which is a reason to be wary of any arrangement marketed that way.

IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation, licence or partnership from KHDA, ADEK, the Ministry of Education, MoHRE, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson, and nothing on this page should be read as implying one. Any provider claiming such status is making a specific factual claim that can be checked with the body named.

06

Exam-season scheduling in Abu Dhabi, and what it does to the price

Slot scarcity is a cost even when the hourly rate does not move. In the months before the May session, the best tutors in the most-requested subjects fill their Gulf Standard Time evenings first, and a family arriving in March is choosing from what is left rather than from the whole pool. Booking a fixed weekly slot in January for a May sitting is not an upsell; it is the difference between the specialist and whoever is still free at 18:00.

The Abu Dhabi calendar then reshapes the plan. Ramadan shortens school days and moves usable study time for many households to after Iftar, so sessions run from roughly 21:00, shorter and more often. Study leave inverts the pattern entirely: mornings become the right slot, because papers are sat in the morning and practising at 10:00 is itself rehearsal. Half-term travel and public holidays remove weeks that a plan drawn in a spreadsheet still contains.

That is why the schedule is agreed before the content plan. We ask which weeks are genuinely available, counting travel, Ramadan, holidays and the school's own mock and study-leave windows, and build against that figure. Twelve calendar weeks is frequently nine working weeks, and a plan priced against twelve is a plan that will overrun into the papers themselves.

One practical consequence of video delivery is worth naming here: when a family travels between Abu Dhabi and elsewhere during the exam term, the lesson follows the laptop. That removes the most common reason a programme loses two weeks in the middle.

07

Coursework at this stage, and the line that does not move

By the exam-preparation phase most internally assessed work is submitted, and a mark that has been submitted is fixed. Where a component is still open, the boundary is the same as it is in any other month. Your child writes the work. A tutor teaches the underlying skill, explains the criteria, asks questions about a plan, and gives feedback on a draft the student produced. No text is supplied, nothing is edited to completion, and no model is handed over to be adapted.

The reason to state this on a cost page is that exam-season pressure is exactly when the request gets made and when a provider is most tempted to take the money. The IB treats work that is not the candidate's own as malpractice, and the consequence lands on the student. In a market where at least one provider openly sells finished internal assessments, a family paying for legitimate support deserves to be told where the line sits before they ask.

The auditable version is simple. The student sends the draft they wrote. The tutor returns questions and criterion references rather than replacement sentences. Every version is retained, so the development of the piece can be shown if the school asks how it was supported. That trail is the same whether the school asks in week two or after submission, and it is the only form of coursework support worth paying for.

Where the deadline has passed, the honest answer is that the hours belong to the written papers now. Saying so reduces the bill, which is why it is worth asking any provider the question directly.

08

Delivery, coverage and what we say when nobody is free

Sessions for Abu Dhabi families run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, with a shared whiteboard, the paper on screen and the session recorded for rewatching. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Abu Dhabi or anywhere in the UAE; that is an India-only service. On a cost page the merits of that are easy to state, because they are mostly arithmetic.

Travel is inside an in-home fee whether or not it is itemised, which is why market rates for visiting work run to AED 500 an hour against AED 200 to 450 for an online specialist, and why visits are quoted in two-hour minimums. Removing the drive converts that money into sessions. It also widens the pool from whoever can reach your community at a fixed hour to whoever teaches the exact component your child needs, which in HL Physics or HL Economics is a materially different set of people.

The limit is honest coverage, and it is disclosed before you book. If no tutor who has taught your child's exact component has hours free in the window you need, you are told, and offered a named alternative with the trade-off stated: a second specialist on Gulf Standard Time from another country, a split of the subject across two tutors with one shared record, reallocation to a subject where the match is right, or a later start.

The table sets out current coverage patterns by request type. It is a disclosure rather than a sales tool, and the fallback column is the part worth reading.

Areas we cover across Abu Dhabi

In exam season the scarce resources are evening slots and the student's own energy, and both vary by community. These are the Abu Dhabi areas families most often book from, with the scheduling point each raises once study leave begins.

Saadiyat Island

Small Diploma cohorts and wide subject spreads, so a household often needs two different HL specialists rather than one generalist. Morning slots during study leave fill first here, which is worth booking before April.

Yas Island

Activity-heavy weekday evenings mean the realistic slot is often 19:30 or later, and the lesson recording gets used more than anywhere else. Short twice-weekly sessions outperform one long block in this pattern.

Al Reem Island

Apartment living with both parents working, so sessions are booked around commutes rather than around school. Families here most often ask for a fixed weekly slot locked for the whole exam term rather than rolling bookings.

Khalifa City

Long school runs across the mainland corridor already consume the late afternoon, which is why the pre-mock phase here is usually bought as weekend mornings and the study-leave phase as weekday mornings.

Al Bateen and Al Khalidiyah

Dense, central and close to several large schools, so group revision is easy to find and individual diagnosis is not. The spend question here is usually whether to add one-to-one work on top of what the school already provides.

Al Mushrif and Al Karamah

Established family areas with multiple children in the same household, where the budget is being split across siblings in different year groups. A single shared schedule planned once saves more than negotiating the hourly rate.

Al Shamkha and Zayed City

Newer communities a long way from the island, where a visiting tutor's travel would be inside the fee. In the final phase that travel cost competes directly with the number of sessions the same money buys.

School ecosystem

The island and Saadiyat

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the subjects, levels and the weeks that are real

The useful opening message lists the six subjects with their levels, the ones in trouble, whether mocks have been sat, and which weeks are genuinely available after travel and school commitments. That is enough to say which phase you are in and what it is worth buying.

  2. 02

    One free diagnostic lesson

A single sixty-minute session at no charge, with the tutor you would keep, before any payment. It is one lesson rather than a trial week, and it exists to check the match on the component and to set the first timed paper section.

  3. 03

Mock scripts marked, then an allocation plan

Scripts are marked against the published scheme and the losses are categorised as content, technique, timing or selection. The written plan names which subjects get hours, which do not, and the ceiling the remaining weeks support. Families often buy fewer hours after this than before it.

  4. 04

Book the phase, with an end date

Hours are bought as a block with a stated end point rather than as an open weekly commitment, and the block is reviewed against evidence before the next one. That structure is what stops exam-season spending from running on past the point where it changes anything.

  5. 05

Review at the block boundary, not at the paper

At the end of each block the topic sheets show whether the subject is responding. Hours are moved, reduced or stopped on that evidence. Where the evidence says stop, that is the recommendation, and it is given in writing rather than left for the family to infer.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Every AED figure carries its source and its date

The bands on this page come from published provider pages and rate trackers in October 2026 and are labelled as market observations. What your own plan costs is quoted after the diagnostic, because an exam-season quotation given before anyone has seen a script is guesswork with a decimal point.

The diagnostic can reduce the order

Marking mock scripts across four subjects regularly closes two of them down. A provider paid by the hour has no incentive to tell you that, which is precisely why the diagnostic is sold as a discrete piece of work with its own end point rather than bundled into a term.

Phases are priced separately because they behave differently

Pre-mock content hours, post-mock diagnosis and study-leave technique clinics return different amounts per hour. Quoting one blended rate for the whole year hides that, and hiding it is how families end up buying content teaching in the week before a paper.

No guarantees, no invented statistics

There is no promised grade, no point-improvement figure and no refund tied to an outcome on this page, and no satisfaction percentage either. What is offered instead is a marked script, a tracked topic sheet and a written statement of what the weeks left cannot change.

The coursework boundary is published, not implied

A tutor teaches the skill, explains the criteria and gives feedback on your child's own draft, keeping every version so the trail is auditable. Where a component is already submitted, you are told the mark is fixed and the hours are redirected to the written papers.

Coverage limits are stated before you pay

If the right specialist is not free in the window you need, you hear that with a named alternative and its trade-off, rather than being matched to whoever had the slot. In exam season that single disclosure is worth more than any discount on the hourly rate.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Abu Dhabi: your questions answered

What does IB exam preparation actually cost for an Abu Dhabi family over a final term?+

It depends far more on hours than on rate. Applying published market bands of AED 150 to 450 an hour, a ten-week pre-mock block in two subjects comes to roughly AED 3,000 to 9,000, a one-off diagnostic across four subjects AED 1,200 to 5,400, and a three-week study-leave clinic in one subject AED 1,800 to 5,400. Rate trackers put specialist exam-year monthly support at AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for a weekly hour. Those are October 2026 market observations rather than our prices, which follow the diagnostic.

Is it worth paying for tutoring once the internal assessments have already been submitted?+

For the written papers, yes, and that is where the hours should go. For the submitted components, no, because a submitted mark is fixed and hours bought against it buy nothing. This matters because the final phase is when families often ask for internal assessment help and when providers are most willing to take the booking. The first question to ask any provider is which components are still open, and the honest answer frequently reduces the hours they can sell you.

Which phase of the final year gives the most grade movement per dirham spent?+

Diagnosis immediately after the mock, by a clear margin, because it decides where every later hour goes and often closes two subjects down entirely. Pre-mock content teaching is next, since there is still time for new knowledge to consolidate. Study-leave technique work is reliable but narrow. The week before a paper is close to worthless to buy. A family that spends eight to twelve hours on diagnosis and allocates the rest on evidence usually spends less overall than one that commits to a flat weekly block in four subjects.

How do I tell whether my child needs content teaching or exam technique work?+

Only the marked script tells you, and the two cost very differently. Blank or abandoned questions on identifiable topics mean content, which is the slowest and most expensive gap to close. Correct ideas scoring partial marks, missing working, described trends without quoted figures and full answers to a question the paper did not ask all mean technique, which is cheap, fast and transfers across every paper in the subject. A mock percentage cannot distinguish between the two, which is why buying from a percentage tends to buy the wrong product.

Why is in-home tutoring quoted higher per hour in Abu Dhabi than online tutoring?+

Because the travel is inside the fee whether or not it is itemised. Market rates for visiting work run roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour against AED 200 to 450 for an online specialist, and visits are commonly quoted with a two-hour minimum so the drive is worth making. In exam season that matters twice over: the length of the session is set by the journey rather than by what technique work needs, and four short sessions a week beat one long visit for correcting habits. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE.

Can a tutor get my child's predicted grade changed before the school submits it?+

A tutor cannot change a prediction, because the prediction belongs to the school. What recent marked evidence can do is give a teacher something concrete to reconsider, which is a different and smaller claim. Schools set forecasts from classwork, mocks and recent assessments, so the useful material is a marked past paper and a tracked topic sheet produced before the school's own forecast deadline rather than after it. Ask the Diploma coordinator when that deadline falls, because evidence arriving afterwards has no route into the decision.

Do you publish the IB exam and results dates for the May session?+

No, and that is deliberate. The IB's own site cannot be verified by automated checking, so no IB session or results date in this project has been confirmed at source, and an unverified date on a page families make paid decisions from is worse than no date at all. Abu Dhabi Diploma candidates normally sit the May session. Confirm the exact windows, the results date and any November arrangements with your child's Diploma coordinator or directly on ibo.org, and build the spending plan around what they confirm.

How much does it cost to retake one IB subject in a later session?+

Two separate costs, and we only have a sourced figure for neither, so here is the honest version. Entry is handled by the school as the examination centre, or by an approved centre for an independent candidate, and those bodies set the fee and the deadline. Tutoring for the retake is priced at the same market bands as any other block, typically AED 200 to 450 an hour for a specialist. Ask the coordinator for the entry fee, the entry deadline and whether the school will enter a candidate for a later session at all, since not all do.

Should I spread the budget across all six subjects or concentrate it?+

Concentrate it, and let a marked script decide where. Spreading hours evenly is the most common exam-season error because it feels fair and treats every subject as equally recoverable. In practice two subjects usually hold most of the reachable marks, two are safe enough to leave alone, and one or two are too far behind for the weeks available to change. The written allocation plan should name all of those categories explicitly, including the subject being deliberately under-resourced, so the decision sits with you rather than with the tutor's diary.

When should an Abu Dhabi family book for a May sitting to get the tutor they want?+

Before the end of January for a fixed weekly evening slot, and earlier for Higher Level sciences. Slot scarcity is a real cost even when the rate does not move: the most requested specialists fill their Gulf Standard Time evenings first, and a family arriving in March is choosing from what remains rather than from the whole pool. Booking early is not an upsell, it is the difference between the right specialist and the available one. Where you are already in March, expect to trade preferred timing for subject match, and take the match.

How does Ramadan change exam-season sessions in Abu Dhabi?+

School days shorten and the usable study window for many households moves to after Iftar, so sessions shift to around 21:00 and run shorter and more often. For exam technique that is usually an improvement, because frequent correction beats long exposure. Study leave then inverts the pattern, with mornings becoming the right slot since papers are sat in the morning and practising at that hour is itself rehearsal. We ask in the first week which weeks are genuinely available, counting Ramadan, travel and public holidays, and price the plan against that number rather than the calendar's.

Does the price include VAT, and do you publish a tax registration number?+

Any quotation you receive will state plainly whether the figure is inclusive or exclusive of VAT, and that is the limit of what this page says on the subject. The VAT treatment of tuition fees in the UAE depends on the supplier and the service, and we do not state a general tax position without a Federal Tax Authority citation to support it. The market AED bands reproduced here are taken from providers' own published figures, which may themselves be quoted on different bases, so treat them as ranges rather than as comparable net prices.

Are the tutors permitted to teach privately in the UAE, and how would I check?+

Individuals providing private lessons in the UAE need the MoHRE private tuition work permit introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. It is granted free of charge for two years, MoHRE's own service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time, and eligible applicants include school and sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and students aged 15 to 18. Ask any provider directly about the permit position of the person who will teach. IB Gram itself holds no regulator approval, accreditation or partnership and does not claim one.

What happens to hours I have paid for if my child's exam timetable changes?+

Ask that question of every provider before paying, because the answers differ widely and exam season is when it matters. The arrangement worth having is one where hours are bought as a block with a stated end date, unused hours carry or are refunded on terms written down in advance, and rescheduling inside a stated notice period is free. Where a provider cannot answer plainly, treat the ambiguity as a price. Our own block structure exists for this reason: a block with an end point can be reviewed and stopped, an open weekly commitment cannot.

Can one tutor cover two of my child's Higher Level subjects to reduce the cost?+

Sometimes, and it is worth asking, but it should not be the deciding factor. Mathematics and Physics is the most common workable pairing, and Economics with Business Management is another. What does not work is pairing two subjects where the assessment shapes are unrelated, because the saving in coordination is lost to a weaker match on both components. If a single tutor is genuinely strong on both, the shared context helps. If not, two specialists with one shared progress record is the better purchase at the same total hours.

Get the scripts, then set the budget

The question worth answering before you spend anything is not what an hour costs. It is which two of your child's six subjects hold the marks that the remaining weeks can actually reach. One free diagnostic lesson and a set of marked mock scripts answer it, and the written allocation plan that follows names the subjects getting hours, the subjects that do not need them, and the ceiling those weeks support. Send the subject list, the levels and the weeks you genuinely have. If the plan that comes back is smaller than the one you were expecting to buy, that is the useful outcome.
