Certified IB Tutor in Abu Dhabi

Searching for a certified IB tutor in Abu Dhabi usually means one thing: you want proof before you pay. This page sets out the only tutoring credential the UAE actually issues, what the Abu Dhabi market charges in AED at each credential tier, and the questions that separate a real qualification from a line on a website. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, with a 45-minute trial lesson first and no card details taken.

  • One tutoring permit exists in the UAE: MoHRE's, free for two years
  • AED bands on this page are market rates, each attributed to its source
  • Lessons are one-to-one over live video, never a recorded class
  • Tutors review and teach; they never write an IA, EE or TOK essay

IB & IGCSE in Abu Dhabi

There is no such thing as an IB-issued tutor certificate

Start with the part nobody advertising to Abu Dhabi parents wants to say out loud. The International Baccalaureate does not certify private tutors. It authorises schools to deliver its programmes and it trains teachers who work inside those schools, but there is no register a parent can search to confirm that an individual has been signed off by the IB to tutor your child. So when a listing says certified, the honest question is: certified by whom, in what, and can you see the document?

What does exist in the UAE is a work permit. Private tutoring here is regulated through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, it is granted free of charge for two years, and MoHRE's own service page lists the application as Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing with a two-working-day completion time through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system. Anyone offering private lessons in Abu Dhabi without that permit is, in the ministry's words, subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. MoHRE has not published a fine schedule, so any site quoting you an exact figure is guessing.

That permit is a legal clearance, not a teaching qualification. It says the person may lawfully charge for lessons. It says nothing about whether they can get a student from a 4 to a 6 in Chemistry HL. Those are two separate checks and a careful parent in Abu Dhabi runs both. The first is a document request. The second is a diagnostic conversation about papers, command terms and the specific place marks are leaking.

Separately, schools in this emirate are licensed by the Department of Education and Knowledge. ADEK supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in Abu Dhabi and publishes inspection outcomes for them. That matters to tutoring in one concrete way: ADEK's professional-ethics expectations for private and charter school staff bar teachers from taking paid private work with students enrolled at their own school, and press reporting on those rules notes that staff tutoring outside school hours are expected to hold the MoHRE permit. If a teacher at your child's own school offers paid lessons, that is a problem for them and a risk for you.

The rest of this page is the practical version. What the Abu Dhabi market charges by credential tier, in AED, with each figure attributed. What genuinely changes the number in this emirate - subject scarcity, level, how close the exam session is, whether an Internal Assessment is in play. Which claims are checkable and which are decoration. And what a tutor may legitimately do with coursework that has to remain the student's own work. IB Gram delivers all of this as one-to-one online tuition into Abu Dhabi homes over live video; it does not offer home visits in Abu Dhabi, because sending someone across the island is not how a family in Al Reef gets a Physics HL specialist.

At a glance

  • The UAE's only tutoring credential is the MoHRE private tuition work permit
  • Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 created it; it costs nothing and lasts two years
  • ADEK licenses Abu Dhabi private schools and publishes their inspection outcomes
  • No fine amount for unpermitted tutoring has been published by the ministry
  • Ask for the permit, then ask a subject question only a specialist could answer
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Abu Dhabi families arrive at IB tutoring from three directions: a child already inside the Diploma, a child in the Middle Years Programme heading for it, and a younger child in the Primary Years Programme whose parents want the groundwork solid. The credential conversation is different in each case, because the assessment stakes are different.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three at Higher Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and creativity, activity, service. Final grades run 1-7 per subject with up to three bonus points from the core, for a ceiling of 45. This is where tutoring money concentrates in Abu Dhabi, because the examinations are external, the Internal Assessments carry real weight, and a DP2 student has no second attempt inside the same academic year.

In Abu Dhabi the Diploma sits alongside A Levels and the American high school diploma in the same compound sometimes, and parents compare them at admissions time rather than at Year 11. A certified IB tutor in Abu Dhabi who has only taught A Level will know the Chemistry content and miss the Internal Assessment criteria entirely, which is the single most common mismatch families report after a bad first month.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Eight subject groups assessed against four criteria each, marked 0-8 per criterion rather than as a percentage. There is no public examination at the end for most students, so progress is evidenced by task-by-task criterion marks, the interdisciplinary units and, in the final year, the Personal Project. Tutoring here is about decoding the criteria, not drilling past papers.

Abu Dhabi's MYP cohorts are concentrated in a handful of continuum schools, which means local tutoring supply is thinner than for IGCSE. A tutor used to the Cambridge mark scheme will often mark MYP work out of 100 out of habit, which tells an Abu Dhabi parent nothing about whether criterion C is the weakness.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS1-Year 6

Primary Years Programme

Transdisciplinary units of inquiry with no graded examinations. Support at this stage is numeracy fluency, reading stamina and written expression, plus the mandatory Arabic and Islamic Education strands that run alongside the licensed curriculum in UAE private schools.

Federal rules require private schools in the UAE to teach Arabic, social studies and Islamic studies regardless of the international curriculum they are licensed to deliver. In Abu Dhabi that is the strand parents most often seek help with first, because it is the one that a British or American curriculum tutor from abroad has no experience of at all.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

A smaller IB route combining DP courses with a career-related study, a reflective project and a personal and professional skills course. Grading mixes DP 1-7 subject grades with a separate assessment of the career-related element.

Very few Abu Dhabi schools run the Career-related Programme, so if your child is on it the tutoring pool inside the emirate is extremely small and online delivery is not a preference but the only realistic way to reach a subject specialist.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Credential questions get concrete at subject level. Below are the IB subjects Abu Dhabi families ask about most, with the part of each that a genuinely qualified tutor can discuss in the first ten minutes and a generalist cannot.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Proof, calculus and algebraic fluency carry the HL paper. A tutor who knows this course will ask whether your child is losing marks on the unstructured Paper 2 questions or on the Paper 3 extended response, because the fix for each is different. The Exploration is marked against five criteria, not out of 100.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Statistics, modelling and technology-heavy work. Graphical display calculator fluency is assessable here in a way it is not in Analysis and Approaches. Abu Dhabi students moving from an American middle school often land in Applications and Interpretation and find the modelling language unfamiliar rather than the maths.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Organic mechanisms and energetics are where HL marks go. A specialist will know which data booklet values are provided and which must be recalled, and will push the Internal Assessment towards a measurable variable early rather than letting a student design something unquantifiable in week three.

Physics

HL and SL

Marks cluster in two places: multi-step mechanics problems where units are dropped, and extended-response questions where the physics is right but the explanation does not use the command term. An HL Physics tutor in Abu Dhabi is one of the scarcer local specialisms, which shows up in the rate.

Biology

HL and SL

Volume of content defeats more students than difficulty does. Useful tutoring here is ruthless about the syllabus understandings and applications, and about the difference between describe, explain and outline in a mark scheme.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagram accuracy and real-world application carry the grade. Internal Assessment commentaries are built from news articles and are marked against specific criteria; a tutor who has not read those criteria will praise a commentary that cannot score well.

Business Management

HL and SL

Tool application matters more than definitions. Students who can recite a framework but cannot apply it to the case study lose the top band. HL adds the extension topics and a longer written assessment.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Assessment runs through the Individual Oral, the Paper 1 guided analysis of unseen text and Paper 2 comparative essay. The learner portfolio underpins all of it. Technique spotting without an argument is the standard plateau.

Arabic B and Arabic A

HL, SL and ab initio

Abu Dhabi students sit this alongside their IB subjects and the emirate's mandatory Arabic requirement. Streams differ sharply for Arab and non-Arab students, and tutoring has to match the stream the school has placed the child in.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

A 1,600-word essay on a prescribed title plus an exhibition of three objects. Marks come from knowledge questions handled with precision. A tutor's role is questioning and feedback on the student's own thinking; writing any part of the essay is malpractice.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three delivery formats are genuinely available to an Abu Dhabi family, and they cost different amounts for different reasons. IB Gram runs the first of them. The other two are described so you can price them honestly against each other.

Weekly one-to-one online

A fixed slot each week with the same tutor, delivered over live video with a shared whiteboard and screen sharing. Work is marked between sessions so the hour is spent on the diagnosis rather than on reading. This is how online IB tuition in Abu Dhabi works at IB Gram, and it is the only format we deliver in the UAE.

  • Same tutor each week, timed to Gulf Standard Time
  • Past-paper questions marked and returned before the next session
  • No travel surcharge, because nobody is travelling
  • Subject specialist chosen by level, not by postcode

Intensive block before a session

A compressed run of sessions in the eight to ten weeks before examinations, usually two or three a week on one subject. Market rates rise for this because demand spikes across the emirate at the same time and specialist availability tightens. Booking the block in January rather than March is the single cheapest decision available to a DP2 family.

  • Two or three sessions a week on a single subject
  • Paper-by-paper coverage with timed conditions
  • Rates across the market climb as the session approaches
  • Specialist slots close first, generalist slots last

Coursework feedback cycles

Shorter, less frequent sessions built around an Internal Assessment, Extended Essay or Theory of Knowledge essay. The tutor questions the plan, reads the student's own draft and gives Internal Assessment feedback against the published criteria. The writing stays the student's; anything else is malpractice and risks the whole diploma.

  • Criterion-by-criterion feedback on the student's own draft
  • Research question narrowed before data collection starts
  • Supervisor deadlines mapped backwards from the school's calendar
  • No drafting, editing to completion or writing of any kind

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Abu Dhabi

01

What a parent is actually asking when they search for a certified IB tutor

  • Verifiable: the MoHRE permit, shown as a document
  • Verifiable: course and level experience, through a subject conversation
  • Verifiable: that the tutor is not staff at your child's own school
  • Not verifiable by a parent: examiner status, final IB score, marking access

The search is a proxy for a trust problem. You cannot sit in on a lesson before you pay for it, you cannot read a mark scheme the way a Chemistry teacher can, and every website in the results promises the same thing in the same words. Certified is the word a parent reaches for because it implies somebody independent has checked. In the UAE tutoring market, almost nobody independent has.

So the useful translation of the query is this: how do I verify what I am buying. There are exactly three things that can be verified by an Abu Dhabi parent without specialist knowledge. One, that the person holds the MoHRE private tuition work permit, which they can show you. Two, that the person has taught the specific course and level your child is sitting, which a ten-minute subject conversation exposes. Three, that the arrangement does not break a rule your child's school enforces, which means not hiring a teacher from your own school for paid lessons.

Everything else on a tutoring website is unverifiable by design. A claimed examiner role cannot be checked by a parent and the boards do not publish examiner lists. A claimed score of 44 cannot be checked. A degree can be claimed from any university on earth. None of that makes the person a poor tutor; it makes the claim worthless as evidence. Treat it as colour and do the three checks that actually resolve.

The cost sections below exist because the credential question and the price question are the same question in disguise. A parent asking for a certified IB tutor in Abu Dhabi is trying to work out whether the AED 400 quote is buying something the AED 180 quote is not. Sometimes it is. The table sets out what, specifically.

02

The permit that exists, and who is allowed to hold it

Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 created the private tuition work permit, and the eligibility list is wider than most parents expect. According to the UAE government's own work-permits page, applicants may include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. The permit is granted free of charge for two years.

That breadth is the point a parent should take away. The permit confirms lawful status to charge for lessons. It does not sort a retired Diploma examiner from a first-year undergraduate, because both may legitimately hold one. Which is why a permit check and a subject check are two separate steps, and why a tutoring platform that waves the permit around as if it were a quality mark is telling you very little.

The route is MoHRE's own: the service is listed as Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, with no fee stated and a two-working-day completion time, applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system. An organisation running a tutoring centre with premises and staff is a different legal animal altogether - in Dubai that requires a KHDA educational services permit for a training institute, with initial approval first and annual renewal requested at least thirty days before expiry. IB Gram is neither of those things: it is an online matching platform with no UAE premises, and it does not hold or imply a regulator's permit of any kind.

The table below is the version to screenshot before a first conversation. Each row is a category of person who might offer your child lessons in Abu Dhabi, and what you can reasonably ask them for.

What a certified IB tutor costs in Abu Dhabi, tier by tier

These are market figures, not IB Gram prices. Each band below was published by the provider named or appears in Bestimate's tutoring cost survey for the UAE market in 2026. IB tutoring rates in Abu Dhabi follow the same structure as Dubai's with slightly thinner supply at the specialist end, which pushes the top of each band rather than the bottom.

Read the table as a ladder of what the money buys. The bottom rung buys content explanation from someone who knows the material. The middle buys a qualified subject teacher who can mark to a scheme. The top buys someone who has taught the course repeatedly, knows where the grade boundaries bite and can tell you in week two what the realistic ceiling is. The jump that matters most for a Diploma student is the middle-to-specialist jump, because it is the one that changes what happens to an Internal Assessment.

The in-home column is included because it is the comparison every Abu Dhabi parent is actually making. It carries the travel cost whether or not it is itemised. A tutor crossing from the mainland to Saadiyat for a 60-minute lesson has spent two hours of their working day on one hour of teaching, and the rate reflects that. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Abu Dhabi; the figures are here so the comparison is honest rather than hidden.

Monthly packages circulating in this market sit around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions. Bestimate's monthly estimates for one weekly hour run AED 240 to AED 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to AED 1,200 mid-market and AED 1,000 to AED 2,000 or more for specialist examination-year support.

What moves the number in this emirate specifically

  • Higher Level commands more than Standard Level at every tier
  • Booking in October rather than March is the biggest single saving available
  • In-home quotes carry commute cost; online quotes carry none
  • Ramadan moves the whole evening slot structure later in the day
  • Arabic and Islamic Education are a separate specialism from IB subjects

Credential tier sets the band. Five Abu Dhabi-specific factors decide where inside the band a quote lands, and four of them have nothing to do with the tutor's qualifications. A parent who understands them can often buy the same teaching for less by changing when and how rather than who.

Level is the first. Higher Level costs more than Standard Level across every provider in this market, because the pool of people who can teach the HL content and the HL paper structure is smaller. For Physics and Chemistry HL in Abu Dhabi that pool is genuinely small inside the emirate, which is why the online figure and the in-home figure converge at the specialist tier instead of diverging.

Timing is the second and the most expensive. Demand across the emirate peaks in the weeks before the May session, and specialist slots at 5pm to 7pm Gulf Standard Time close first. A family booking in October pays mid-band for the same person another family pays top-of-band for in March. Ramadan shifts the whole evening timetable later, and post-Iftar slots are the ones everybody wants at once.

The remaining three are geography, scope and the Arabic stream. Travel time from the mainland to the island or out to Al Reef adds a premium to any in-home quote and nothing at all to an online one. A single subject at one level prices differently from two subjects shared across one slot, which almost never works for Diploma students. And the mandatory Arabic and Islamic Education strands require a tutor who has taught the UAE stream the school placed your child in, which is a separate specialism from IB subject teaching.

05

Five credential claims, and what each would actually require

Tutoring listings in this market lean on a small set of phrases. None of them are necessarily false. All of them are unverifiable as written, and each has a version that is checkable. The table turns each claim into a question a parent can ask on a first call and judge the answer to without being a subject teacher.

The most consequential of these is examiner status. An examiner badge is attractive because it implies inside knowledge of marking. In practice the boards do not publish examiner lists, examiner contracts are session-by-session rather than permanent, and no examiner may disclose unreleased paper content or boundary decisions. A tutor who implies access to any of that is describing something that would be a breach of their own contract.

The second most consequential is a claimed personal score. A 43 or 44 in the Diploma is a real achievement and a weak predictor of teaching ability. The skill a Diploma student needs from a tutor is the ability to look at a marked Paper 2 and say which three marks were lost to command-term handling rather than content. Plenty of 38s can do that; plenty of 44s cannot.

Ask instead for the thing that cannot be faked in conversation: the specific syllabus, the specific paper, the specific criterion. A tutor who has taught Chemistry HL recently will tell you without prompting which data booklet sections students forget exist. That answer is worth more than any badge on a profile page.

06

The ADEK rule most Abu Dhabi parents have never been told

There is a specific arrangement that looks ideal to a worried parent and is in fact the riskiest option on the table: paying your child's own subject teacher for private lessons. It feels efficient. The teacher knows the student, knows the school's internal deadlines and sets the assessments. That is exactly why it is barred.

ADEK's professional-ethics expectations for private and charter school staff in Abu Dhabi prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct carries a comparable restriction on serving students affiliated with the permit holder's own school. This has been reported in the Gulf press rather than published by us, so treat the wording as press-reported and check the current ADEK policy document if you need the exact text. The direction of the rule is not in doubt.

The reasoning is a conflict of interest that damages the student first. A teacher who marks a child's internal assessments and is also paid privately by that child's family cannot be a neutral marker, and the child's grade loses its credibility inside the school. For a Diploma student whose predicted grades go to universities, that is a real cost, not a technicality.

The practical reading for a parent in Abu Dhabi: a teacher from a different school in the emirate is fine, an independent tutor is fine, an online specialist from outside the UAE teaching your child's course is fine. The one arrangement to decline, however convenient, is the person who teaches and marks your child during the school day. If a teacher offers, the honest answer is that they are putting themselves at risk and your child's marks under suspicion.

07

What a tutor may and may not touch on IB coursework

  • Permitted: teaching content, questioning plans, criterion-level feedback on the student's draft
  • Permitted: deadline mapping backwards from the school's internal dates
  • Prohibited: writing, rewriting, supplying data or producing a bibliography
  • Prohibited: handing over work that could simply be copied
  • Reference official board documents by link; do not accept them as files

This is where credential questions stop being about price and start being about whether your child keeps their diploma. IB academic-honesty rules make the student the author of every assessed piece of work. A tutor who crosses that line exposes the student to a malpractice finding, and the consequence falls on the student, not on the tutor who took the fee.

The permitted territory is wide and genuinely useful. A tutor may teach the underlying content, question a research plan until it is answerable, explain what a criterion is asking for in plain language, read the student's own draft and say which criterion it is under-serving, model how a different question would be approached, and help a student build a timetable backwards from their supervisor's deadlines. Internal Assessment feedback of that kind is the highest-value tutoring a Diploma student can buy.

The prohibited territory is narrow and absolute. A tutor may not write any part of the work, rewrite sentences into their own prose, supply data the student did not collect, produce a bibliography the student did not read, or hand over a model answer specific enough that copying it is the obvious next step. Services advertising completed Internal Assessments exist in this market at prices around AED 3,750; buying one is not a shortcut, it is a malpractice trigger with the student's name on it.

There is also a copyright line. Nobody should be supplying you with IB, Cambridge or Pearson syllabus documents, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables as downloads. Those are published by the boards, your child's school has legitimate access, and a tutor who emails you a folder of them is telling you something about how they operate.

08

Reading a school's standing before you buy tuition

Parents often buy tutoring to solve something the school report has already explained badly. Before committing to an AED 1,200 month, it is worth reading the two documents that exist about your child's school and your child's performance, because they frequently point at different problems.

ADEK supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in Abu Dhabi and publishes inspection outcomes for them. ADEK school inspection ratings describe the school, not your child. A strong overall rating with a weaker judgement on a particular phase or subject area tells you where the school's own capacity is thin, and that is where external support earns its money. A weak rating across the board is a different conversation, and it is one to have with the school before it is one to have with a tutor.

The second document is the child's own assessment record. For a Diploma student that means marked papers with component breakdowns, not an averaged percentage. For a Middle Years student it means criterion marks, task by task, because a 5 on criterion A and a 2 on criterion D is a precise instruction about what to work on and an average of 3.5 is noise.

Bring both to a first conversation with any tutor. A specialist will read them in five minutes and name the weakness. Someone who responds with a generic plan for the whole subject has told you, for free, which tier they belong in. This is also the moment to ask about the free trial lesson in Abu Dhabi that most providers including IB Gram offer: the trial is worth taking only if you arrive with evidence for the tutor to diagnose.

09

Ministry of Education equivalency, which outlasts every tutoring decision

Tutoring ends with the examinations. The paperwork does not. If your child intends to study at a UAE university or to use the qualification here, the Ministry of Education equivalency process is the step that converts a foreign school certificate into something UAE institutions recognise. It is worth understanding early, because two of its requirements are decided in Year 10 rather than at the end of Year 13.

For the British track the published requirements are specific. A student must show five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, plus either one accredited subject at Advanced Level with a grade of no less than E or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects, which is a detail at least one ranking tutoring site in this market currently gets wrong by telling UAE families they need six.

For the American track, English proficiency is evidenced by a score of 5 in the IELTS academic test, 61 in the TOEFL iBT test, or 450 in the reading and writing section of the SAT, and mathematics requires at least 450 in the SAT Math test before applying. For the IB there is no points threshold we have been able to read on an official ministry page, so this page publishes none. Anyone quoting you an IB equivalency score without a moe.gov.ae source is guessing, and the number has consequences.

IB Gram does not perform, submit or guarantee equivalency, and tutoring is not a requirement for it. Verify every detail through the Ministry of Education's own channel or the emirate's attestation authority. The reason it appears on a page about tutor credentials is simple: a tutor who knows this process exists is a tutor who understands the system your child is inside, and that is a more useful signal than any badge.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Abu Dhabi

Where you live in Abu Dhabi changes the tutoring economics more than it changes the teaching. The notes below are about supply, scheduling and commute - the three things that move a quoted AED figure in this emirate.

Saadiyat Island

A short causeway from the island centre but a long way from the mainland tutor pool. Families here pay the top of the in-home band because a tutor's round trip eats an hour either side of a 60-minute lesson.

Al Bateen

Central, well served by independent tutors, and the one part of Abu Dhabi where an in-home visit is logistically simple. Rates here sit closer to the middle of the market because travel time is short.

Al Mushrif

Villa communities with a strong school-run pattern, which compresses tutoring into a narrow 5pm to 8pm window. That scarcity of slots, not the tutor's credential, is often what pushes the quoted rate up.

Khalifa City

Large expatriate catchment and an IB Diploma tutor in Khalifa City is a common search. In-home quotes here carry a travel premium from the island; online removes it entirely and widens the subject pool.

Al Raha Gardens

Tight-knit villa clusters where families often share a tutor across households. That works for IGCSE revision and poorly for Diploma Internal Assessments, which have to be the individual student's own work.

Yas Island

Newer housing, newer schools, and a tutoring market that has not caught up with demand. Specialist Higher Level cover is the gap, not general support.

Al Reem Island

High-rise living with little parking and building access rules that slow a visiting tutor down. Online sessions sidestep the lift queue and the security desk, and start on time.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Abu Dhabi

Saadiyat and the island centre

Students we support in this cluster come from a mix of British, American and IB continuum schools within a short drive of each other. Programme offerings change year to year, so confirm with the school directly rather than relying on any tutoring website.

  • Cranleigh Abu Dhabi
  • American Community School of Abu Dhabi
  • Al Bateen Academy
  • Brighton College Abu Dhabi
  • Abu Dhabi International School

Khalifa City and the Al Raha corridor

The emirate's densest concentration of IB continuum places sits along this corridor. Families here most often ask for Diploma sciences and Mathematics, and for Middle Years criterion support in Years 9 and 10.

  • Raha International School
  • GEMS American Academy Abu Dhabi
  • Al Yasmina Academy
  • The British International School Abu Dhabi
  • GEMS World Academy Abu Dhabi

Reem Island and the mainland communities

Newer schools serving Al Reem, Al Reef and Mohammed Bin Zayed City. Local tutor supply is thinnest here for Higher Level sciences, which is precisely where online delivery changes what is available to a family.

  • Repton School Abu Dhabi
  • Amity International School Abu Dhabi
  • Reach British School
  • Emirates Future International Academy

Schools are named here as context for the Abu Dhabi education map only. IB Gram claims no affiliation, partnership or endorsement from any school or school group listed.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the evidence, not the worry

Share the marked papers, the component breakdown or the criterion marks and the school's internal deadline list. Ten minutes of real evidence tells a specialist more than an hour of description, and it is what lets the first session start with a diagnosis instead of an introduction.

  2. 02

    Matched on subject and level

You are matched to a tutor who teaches that exact course at that exact level, with the subject and level stated before you agree to anything. If the specialist for your child's Higher Level subject is not free in your preferred slot, you are told that rather than offered a near-enough alternative.

  3. 03

Take the trial lesson with the papers open

The trial runs 45 minutes over live video, costs nothing and takes no card details. Use it to watch the tutor diagnose: a good one will name the specific lost marks and what the first four weeks would target. A generic plan for the whole syllabus is the answer to walk away from.

  4. 04

Ask for the permit and the honesty line

Request the MoHRE private tuition work permit as a document, and ask directly what the tutor will and will not do with an Internal Assessment. A tutor who answers the second question crisply is a tutor who has read the academic-honesty rules.

  5. 05

Set the slot and the review point

Fix a weekly time on Gulf Standard Time, and fix a date four weeks ahead to review whether anything has moved. Review against marked work, not against how the sessions felt. If the evidence has not shifted, change the tutor rather than adding hours.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Figures that carry their source

Every AED band on this page is attributed to the provider that published it or to the market survey it came from. None of them is an IB Gram price list. A page that shows where its numbers came from is one you can argue with, which is the point.

Specialist by level, not by postcode

An Abu Dhabi family matched online is choosing from everyone who teaches Chemistry HL, not from everyone who teaches Chemistry HL and can reach Saadiyat by 5pm. That is the whole argument for the format, and it is strongest in exactly the subjects where local supply is thinnest.

A stated position on coursework

Teaching, questioning and criterion-level feedback on the student's own draft. No writing, no rewriting, no supplied data. The line is published because the consequence of crossing it lands on the student, and because several providers in this market cross it for a fee.

No regulator borrowed as a badge

ADEK, KHDA, SPEA, MoHRE and the Ministry of Education are described on this page because understanding them helps you. IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation or partnership from any of them, and says so rather than letting the implication sit.

Honest about what is not available

IB Gram does not offer home visits in Abu Dhabi, does not operate a UAE office, and will say when a niche Higher Level subject has no specialist free. Availability limits disclosed up front cost less than availability limits discovered in week three.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Abu Dhabi: your questions answered

What does a certified IB tutor in Abu Dhabi actually have to hold?+

Legally, one thing: the MoHRE private tuition work permit, created by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, granted free of charge for two years. There is no IB-issued certificate for individual tutors anywhere, so no tutor can show you one. Beyond the permit, what you are checking is course-level teaching experience, and the only reliable test is a subject conversation. Ask which IB courses and levels they have taught, for how many cohorts, and what they would look for first in a marked Paper 2. Specific answers come from specialists; general ones come from generalists.

Is the MoHRE private tuition work permit the same thing as a teaching licence?+

No. The permit is a clearance to charge lawfully for private lessons in the UAE. It is not a judgement about teaching quality, and the eligibility list makes that obvious: the UAE government's work-permits page lists school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18 as eligible applicants. A first-year undergraduate and a twenty-year Diploma teacher may both hold the identical permit. Treat it as the floor you refuse to go below, not as the thing you are paying extra for.

How do I check that a tutor advertising in Abu Dhabi holds that permit?+

Ask them to send it. The permit is a document issued through MoHRE's own service, listed as Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, applied for via the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system with a stated two-working-day completion time. A permit holder can produce it in minutes. If the reply explains why it is unnecessary, you have your answer. For a tuition centre with premises the relevant document is a commercial institute permit instead, and in Dubai that is a KHDA educational services permit rather than the individual tuition permit.

Does ADEK issue any certificate to individual private tutors?+

No. ADEK supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in Abu Dhabi and publishes inspection outcomes for them; the individual tutoring permit sits with MoHRE federally. So a listing describing a tutor as cleared or endorsed by ADEK is describing something that does not exist. What ADEK does give you is useful in a different way: its published inspection outcome for your child's school tells you where that school's own capacity is weaker, which is a sensible place to point paid support.

Can my child's own subject teacher at an Abu Dhabi school tutor them privately for a fee?+

They should not, and being asked is a warning sign rather than an opportunity. ADEK's professional-ethics expectations for private and charter school staff bar paid private tutoring of students enrolled at the teacher's own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct carries a comparable restriction. This is press-reported rather than quoted from us, so verify the current policy text if you need it exactly. The reason matters more than the rule: the person who marks your child's internal work cannot also be paid by your family without the mark losing credibility.

Why does the credential tier change the AED rate by so much in this emirate?+

Because supply narrows sharply as you go up. Content explanation is widely available in Abu Dhabi and prices from AED 45 to AED 150 an hour on the budget platforms. A qualified subject tutor runs roughly AED 150 to AED 300 online, per Unitors' published IGCSE and IB starting rates. Somebody who has taught Higher Level Physics or Chemistry through several Diploma cohorts is genuinely scarce inside the emirate, and the market prices that scarcity at AED 200 to AED 450 and above. The tier is a proxy for how many people could do the job.

Should I pay extra for a tutor who describes themselves as an IB examiner?+

Only if the claim converts into something you can use. The boards do not publish examiner lists, so a parent cannot verify the status. Examiner contracts are session-based rather than permanent, and no examiner may disclose unreleased paper content or boundary decisions, so any implication of inside access describes a contract breach rather than a benefit. The useful version of the question is component-level: which component did you mark, and what did it teach you about where candidates lose marks. A real answer is about mark schemes. A deflection is about prestige.

Is a strong Diploma graduate a sensible choice for Higher Level Physics?+

Sometimes, and the deciding factor is not their own score. What a Higher Level student needs is somebody who can read a marked script and separate marks lost to content from marks lost to command-term handling or to unexplained working. That is a teaching skill built by marking many students' work, not by sitting the examination well once. A recent graduate can be excellent for content gaps and timed practice at Standard Level, and is usually the wrong choice for steering an Internal Assessment where criterion judgement is the whole job.

What should I ask for before the first paid session with any tutor?+

Four things, all of which a serious tutor supplies without friction. The MoHRE private tuition work permit as a document. The exact courses and levels they teach, stated as course names rather than subject names. Their position on Internal Assessment work, in their own words. And a four-week plan that names a specific weakness from the marked evidence you sent. If any of the four produces a vague answer, that is information. The point of asking is not suspicion; it is that specialists answer these quickly and generalists do not.

Does IB Gram send a tutor to our villa anywhere in Abu Dhabi?+

No. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Abu Dhabi or anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service we run only in India. UAE tuition is delivered one-to-one over live video, with a shared whiteboard, screen sharing and the tutor's marking of the student's work between sessions. The reason is not cost. It is that a family in Khalifa City or on Saadiyat gets the specialist who teaches their child's exact course and level, rather than whoever happens to be a twenty-minute drive away at 5pm.

What happens in the trial lesson and what does it cost?+

It runs 45 minutes over live video, costs nothing, and no card details are taken to book it. Bring the marked work and the school's deadline list. A useful trial looks like a diagnosis: the tutor reads the evidence, names the specific marks being lost and describes what the first four weeks would target. A trial that is mostly introductions and reassurance has told you which tier of the market you are in. You are allowed to take a trial, decline, and take another.

Are the AED figures on this page IB Gram's own prices?+

No, and that distinction matters. Every band here is a market figure attributed to the provider that published it or to Bestimate's UAE tutoring cost survey for 2026, including EdFlik from AED 45 to 65, Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52, Unitors from AED 150 for IGCSE and AED 200 for IB, TutorChase at AED 270 and BartyED at AED 650. They are published so you can price any quote you receive against the market. For what IB Gram would cost in your child's situation, take the trial and ask directly.

What if no specialist covers my child's Higher Level subject right now?+

You are told that, with the alternatives spelled out, rather than matched to somebody near enough. Abu Dhabi's thinnest local coverage is in Higher Level sciences, Theory of Knowledge supervision and the less common Group 2 languages. The options are usually a wait for a named slot to open, a tutor based outside the UAE who teaches the course and works to Gulf Standard Time, or a narrower brief such as coursework feedback only. Disclosed availability limits are cheaper than limits you discover in week three.

Can a tutor help with an Internal Assessment without breaking IB rules?+

Yes, and the boundary is clear enough to state in one sentence each way. A tutor may teach the content, question the research plan until it is answerable, explain what each criterion rewards, read the student's own draft and say which criterion it under-serves. A tutor may not write or rewrite any part of it, supply data the student did not collect, or produce a bibliography the student did not read. Services selling finished Internal Assessments operate in this market; buying one risks a malpractice finding against the student, not the seller.

Do we need tutoring to obtain UAE Ministry of Education equivalency?+

No, and any page implying otherwise is manufacturing urgency about a regulatory process. Equivalency is paperwork: the British track requires five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than E or grade 3, excluding Arabic and Islamic education, plus one A Level at E or two AS Levels at E. The American track requires SAT Math 450 and English evidence of IELTS 5, TOEFL iBT 61 or SAT 450 in reading and writing. No IB points figure is published here because none has been confirmed on an official ministry page. Verify through the ministry's own channel.

Start with the document, then the diagnosis

If you take two things from this page, take these. There is no IB certificate for tutors, so ask instead for the MoHRE private tuition work permit, which is real, free and two years long. Then test the teaching with evidence rather than credentials: send the marked papers and see whether the tutor names a specific lost mark or offers a general plan. The AED bands here are the market's, attributed to their sources, so you can price any quote against them. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, the trial costs nothing, and we will tell you when a specialist is not free.
