IB DP Psychology Tutor in Sharjah

Hiring an IB DP psychology tutor in Sharjah goes wrong in a predictable way: the family pays for general study skills, discovers in February that Paper 3 and the experimental-study report were never touched, and buys the same term twice. This page sets out the AED bands the Sharjah and Dubai market charges, the four points where that double payment happens, and how one-to-one lessons reach Al Taawun, Abu Shagara, Muwaileh and Kalba over live video.

  • Paper 3 is HL-only and tests approaches to research
  • The IA is an experimental report of 1,800 to 2,200 words
  • 22 marks across four IA criteria, A to D
  • Every AED figure here is a market rate with its source named

The four places Sharjah families pay for Psychology twice

Psychology is the Diploma subject most often bought as generic help, and it is the one where generic help wastes the most money. The course looks approachable from outside: no equations, familiar vocabulary, studies with names a parent recognises. What that hides is a mark scheme that pays for criticism of research rather than recall of it, an HL paper about methodology rather than content, and an internal assessment that is a statistics report wearing an essay's clothes. A tutor who has not taught those three things can fill thirty hours and move nothing, and in this market thirty hours is somewhere between AED 4,500 and AED 13,500.

Start with the real bands so the arithmetic is visible. In this market a budget general tutor runs roughly AED 45 to 150 an hour; EdFlik advertises from AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52. A qualified subject tutor working online runs roughly AED 150 to 300, with Unitors quoting IB from AED 200. An IB specialist with Diploma component depth runs roughly AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase at AED 270 and Bestimate's 2026 Dubai tracker at AED 200 to 450 plus. In-home one-to-one with travel included is quoted at AED 180 to 500. Premium named tutors reach AED 650, as BartyED publishes. Those are other people's figures, dated October 2026, published here because almost nobody in this SERP publishes any figure at all.

The first place money goes twice is the option papers. Psychology offers four options - abnormal psychology, developmental psychology, health psychology and the psychology of human relationships - and schools teach one at Standard Level and two at Higher. A tutor who teaches a different option from the one the school chose has taught content the student will never be examined on. Families discover this late, usually from a mock paper, and then pay again for the right option in the worst week of the year to be buying anything.

The second is Paper 3, which exists only at Higher Level and asks three short-answer questions about approaches to research based on an unseen stimulus study. It is not about psychology content at all; it is about sampling, ethics, credibility, bias, and whether a finding transfers. Schools frequently teach it last. The third is the experimental study report: 1,800 to 2,200 words, marked out of 22 across four criteria, requiring an operationalised hypothesis, descriptive statistics with a measure of dispersion, a justified inferential test and an evaluation tied back to the study being replicated. The fourth is the short-answer question itself, where students write essays, run out of time and lose marks they already knew the answer to.

Those four are the whole argument for matching on component rather than on subject name. They are also why delivery format matters here. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE; home visits are a service we run only in India. Sharjah lessons are one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time, and the reason is not price. It is that the number of people within a twenty-minute drive of Al Taawun who have marked IB Psychology Paper 3 and can diagnose a Mann-Whitney justification is, realistically, zero. Online delivery is how a Sharjah student gets the person who has done both.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Psychology is taken by students arriving from three different places, and each arrival point has its own cost profile. Here is what the stage before the Diploma leaves undone.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Psychology sits in Group 3 and can be taken at either level. Both levels examine the biological, cognitive and sociocultural approaches in Paper 1 and at least one option in Paper 2, and both require the experimental study report. Higher Level adds the HL extensions inside each approach and the research-methods paper. The practical difference is that HL students are examined on how psychology is done as well as on what it has found.

Sharjah's Diploma cohort is small, and Psychology is often the subject with the fewest candidates in a Sharjah year group - sometimes two or three. That matters twice: the school may teach it in a combined HL and SL class, and there is no local peer group to revise with. One-to-one is not a luxury in that situation, it is the only configuration that matches the student's actual option and level.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

There is no MYP psychology, so students arrive from Individuals and Societies or from Sciences. From Individuals and Societies they bring investigation skills and no statistics; from Sciences they bring method and no essay structure. Both gaps are specific and short. The statistics gap is four to six sessions; the critical-thinking essay habit takes longer because it is a habit rather than a topic.

Several Sharjah schools run MYP and stop there, so students move to a Dubai or Ajman campus for DP1. A transfer arriving in late September has usually missed the research-methods groundwork the first weeks cover, and that groundwork is exactly what Paper 3 is built on at HL. Catching it in October costs a handful of sessions; catching it in March costs a term.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge and Pearson IGCSE

Cambridge IGCSE Psychology is syllabus 0266 and is taught in relatively few UAE schools, so most DP Psychology students have never studied the subject formally. They have usually studied Biology, which helps with the biological approach, and English, which helps with essay structure. Neither prepares them for evaluating a study's sampling or generalisability, which is where the Diploma marks sit.

Students who did sit 0266 come in with a real advantage on the biological and cognitive material and a real disadvantage on command terms, because the IGCSE rewards description where the Diploma rewards judgement. Sharjah families on the British track usually see IGCSE results in August, after DP subject choices are made, so the Psychology decision is taken on a predicted grade.

ALAges 16-18 · Years 12-13

A Level Psychology, for comparison

Parents in Sharjah comparing a Diploma school with an A Level school ask which Psychology is harder. A Level goes deeper into named studies and into research methods as a standalone topic; the Diploma goes wider across approaches and options and compresses methodology into one HL paper and the IA. The Diploma version demands more transferable criticism and less memorised detail.

The decision rarely turns on difficulty. It turns on what the rest of the timetable looks like and on Ministry of Education equivalency, which on the British track requires five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than grade E or 3 - Arabic and Islamic Education excluded from that count - plus one A Level at E or two AS Levels at the same grade. No IB points figure has been published on a source we are prepared to cite; verify the IB route on moe.gov.ae.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Psychology is rarely tutored alone. These are the courses Sharjah students most often pair with it, and the specific skill each one lends or borrows.

Psychology HL

Higher Level

Paper 1 on the three approaches with the HL extensions at 40 per cent, Paper 2 on two options at 20 per cent, Paper 3 on approaches to research at 20 per cent, and the experimental report at 20 per cent. Marks are lost on criticism of research, not on knowing the studies.

Psychology SL

Standard Level

Paper 1 at 50 per cent, Paper 2 on one option at 25 per cent, and the experimental report at 25 per cent. No Paper 3. SL students carry a heavier single paper, so Paper 1 timing discipline matters more than it does at HL.

Biology HL and SL

HL and SL

Feeds the biological approach directly: neurotransmission, hormones, genetics and the limits of animal research. Biology students are the ones most likely to describe a study accurately and still lose the evaluation marks, because biology rewards the mechanism and psychology rewards the critique.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

The statistics partner for the Psychology IA. AI covers descriptive statistics, correlation and hypothesis testing in a form that maps straight onto choosing between a Mann-Whitney U, a Wilcoxon, a chi-square and a t-test, and onto explaining what p below 0.05 actually licenses you to say.

Biology and Sports Exercise Health Science overlap

HL and SL

SEHS shares the health-psychology option's material on behaviour change, stress and adherence. Students taking both can revise the option alongside SEHS content, provided they keep the command terms separate - SEHS rewards application, the Psychology option rewards evaluation of the evidence.

Global Politics HL and SL

HL and SL

Shares the sociocultural approach's territory on identity, conformity and group behaviour, and shares the essay structure that earns Paper 1 Section B marks. A student who writes a strong Global Politics essay usually transfers that structure into Psychology faster than they transfer content.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Not content overlap but mark overlap. Every Psychology essay is a sustained argument with evidence weighed against itself. Students who cannot build a paragraph with a claim, evidence and a limitation in it will not score the critical-thinking marks however many studies they know.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

TOK's questions about replication, bias and what counts as evidence in the human sciences are the same questions Paper 3 asks with a mark scheme attached. A student who has argued about generalisability in a TOK exhibition commentary has already done the thinking Paper 3 pays for.

Psychology IA supervision

HL and SL

A replication of a simple experiment, reported in 1,800 to 2,200 words and marked out of 22 across four criteria. Coaching covers hypothesis operationalisation, design choice, descriptive statistics, inferential test justification and evaluation - all on the student's own data and the student's own writing.

Extended Essay in Psychology

Core

A 4,000-word research essay, often chosen by Psychology students and often chosen badly: a question too broad to answer or too narrow to find research on. Supervision here is process coaching - question shaping, source evaluation, structure - on work the student writes entirely themselves.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three configurations, each suited to a different problem and priced differently. All are delivered as live video sessions with a named tutor; none involves anybody travelling to a Sharjah address.

Weekly one-to-one, option-matched

A single 60 or 90-minute session a week on the option the school actually teaches, running with the school's order rather than ahead of it. The option match is checked before the first session, because teaching the wrong option is the most expensive mistake available in this subject and the easiest one to avoid.

  • Option confirmed from the student's own notes before week one
  • 60 or 90 minutes, same slot weekly in Gulf Standard Time
  • Short-answer question timing drilled from the start
  • Paused for school assessment weeks rather than paid for and missed

IA statistics and write-up block

A short block built around the experimental study report: operationalising the hypothesis, choosing the design, running descriptive statistics with a measure of dispersion, justifying the inferential test and writing an evaluation that refers back to the replicated study. Feedback is given by criterion letter on the student's own draft and data.

  • Three to five sessions, usually across two weeks
  • Covers Mann-Whitney U, Wilcoxon, chi-square and t-test selection
  • Criterion A to D feedback on the student's own writing only
  • No text, data or analysis is ever supplied by the tutor

Paper 3 research-methods intensive

For Higher Level students only. Three short-answer questions on an unseen stimulus study, worth 20 per cent of the HL grade and almost always taught last. The intensive works through sampling, ethics, credibility, bias and transferability against real stimulus material, with every answer marked and returned annotated.

  • Six to eight sessions, timed answers marked each time
  • Built on unseen stimulus studies, not on recalled content
  • Teaches the answer shape the 9-mark question rewards
  • Higher Level only; cannot be shared with an SL student

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Sharjah

01

What Psychology tutoring costs in Sharjah, and what the money buys

  • Budget general tutor, online: AED 45 to 150 per hour (EdFlik from AED 45 to 65; Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52)
  • Qualified subject tutor, online: AED 150 to 300 per hour (Unitors IB from AED 200)
  • IB specialist, online: AED 200 to 450+ per hour (TutorChase AED 270; Bestimate 200 to 450+)
  • In-home with travel included: AED 180 to 500 per hour (Bestimate 180 to 350)
  • Monthly packages seen in this market: AED 799 online for eight sessions; AED 1,599 to 1,799 in-home for four two-hour sessions

The published bands in this market are broad because the job varies, so the useful framing is cost per problem rather than cost per hour. Repairing short-answer timing is a handful of sessions and lifts a visible chunk of Paper 1. Teaching the right option from scratch in February is a term's work at pre-session prices. The IA block is small, fixed and high-yield. Paper 3 is HL-only and needs somebody who has marked it. Those four jobs have genuinely different prices, and a quote that does not name which one it covers is a quote for the middle of a range.

Two cost traps are specific to Psychology. The first is paying for content when the problem is criticism: a student who can describe a dozen studies and cannot weigh any of them will not improve from more studies, and more studies is what a generalist will deliver because it is the easy thing to teach. The second is paying for an option the school does not teach, which produces a student who is better at psychology and no better at their exam. Both traps are avoidable in the first conversation by asking which option, which level, and what the last marked essay scored and why.

Our own rate is not published as a table because it depends on the tutor matched, the level, the component and the session length, and because the first lesson is free precisely so the comparison happens against a real session rather than a number on a page. What we will state is the method: the option and level are confirmed before booking, marking time is inside the session rate, there is no travel component because there is no travel, and no tutor at any price will promise a particular grade.

How Psychology is examined, and why HL is a different purchase

At Standard Level, Psychology is examined by Paper 1 at 50 per cent, Paper 2 at 25 per cent on a single option, and the internal assessment at 25 per cent. At Higher Level, Paper 1 falls to 40 per cent and carries the HL extensions, Paper 2 covers two options at 20 per cent, Paper 3 on approaches to research is 20 per cent, and the internal assessment is 20 per cent. Paper 1 Section A is three short-answer questions across the biological, cognitive and sociocultural approaches; Section B is one essay chosen from three, answered with the HL extensions in view if the student is at Higher Level.

Those weightings carry a planning consequence most families never hear. An SL student has half their grade resting on a single two-hour paper, so timing discipline and breadth across all three approaches are the priorities; there is nowhere to hide a weak approach. An HL student has their grade spread across four components, two options instead of one, and a whole paper about methodology rather than content. An HL plan that does not budget for Paper 3 has not budgeted for a fifth of the grade, and that is the single most common structural error we see in Sharjah where HL and SL are often taught together.

Paper 3 deserves naming properly because it is unlike anything else in the Diploma. The student is given an unseen stimulus describing a piece of research and answers three short-answer questions on how that research was done: the sampling method and its implications, ethical considerations, the credibility of the findings, researcher and participant bias, and whether the results can be generalised or transferred. Content knowledge contributes almost nothing. What contributes is the ability to read a method and say precisely what it does and does not license, which is a teachable skill with a repeating answer shape.

03

The experimental study report, criterion by criterion

The Psychology internal assessment is a report on a replication of a simple experimental study, written in 1,800 to 2,200 words and marked out of 22 against four criteria. Criterion A, introduction, carries 6 marks and rewards a clearly identified study to replicate, a stated aim and an operationalised hypothesis with the independent and dependent variables defined in measurable terms. Criterion B, exploration, carries 4 marks for the design, the sampling method, the controls and the ethical considerations actually applied. Criterion C, analysis, carries 6 marks for descriptive statistics including a measure of dispersion, a justified inferential test and correctly reported results. Criterion D, evaluation, carries 6 marks for discussing the findings against the original study and identifying real limitations with real modifications.

Where marks go is boringly consistent. Criterion A loses marks to hypotheses that are directional without saying so, or stated in words the design cannot measure. Criterion B loses marks to an ethics paragraph that lists principles instead of describing what the student did about informed consent, the right to withdraw, debriefing and anonymity. Criterion C loses marks to a mean with no standard deviation, to an inferential test chosen without justification, and to results reported without the test statistic, the critical value or the significance level. Criterion D loses marks to limitations that are generic rather than specific to this design, and to an evaluation that never returns to the study being replicated.

The boundary on this component is not negotiable and it protects the student rather than us. A tutor explains the criteria, asks the questions that expose a weak hypothesis, teaches test selection and reads the student's draft with criterion letters attached. A tutor does not run the analysis, does not supply sentences, and does not hand back a version to copy. Nobody here will write, redraft or supply text for an assessed report. One operator in this market openly sells completed internal assessments; the consequence of that under IB academic-honesty rules lands on the student's whole Diploma, not on the seller.

Choosing and surviving the option paper

Psychology has four options: abnormal psychology, developmental psychology, health psychology and the psychology of human relationships. Standard Level students answer on one; Higher Level students answer on two. The school chooses, not the student, and that choice is the single most important piece of information in any tutoring enquiry for this subject. A tutor who teaches human relationships to a student whose school teaches abnormal psychology has done careful, useless work, and in a small Sharjah cohort nobody notices until a mock paper comes back.

Each option has its own failure mode. Abnormal psychology invites students to write about disorders rather than about the research into them, and the mark scheme pays for the research. Developmental psychology rewards longitudinal evidence and punishes assertions about childhood that have no study behind them. Health psychology overlaps so heavily with Sports Exercise Health Science that students taking both start writing applied answers in an evaluative paper. Human relationships is the most popular and the most generously supplied with studies, which tempts students into listing six when two weighed properly would score higher.

The practical check takes one minute and saves a term. Open the student's folder and look at the option headings actually taught, not the ones on a prospectus. Confirm the level, because an HL student needs the second option too. Then look at the most recent marked option essay and read the teacher's comments rather than the mark: comments about missing evaluation point to a different intervention from comments about missing content. In a Sharjah school where HL and SL sit in the same room, that marked essay is often the only reliable evidence of what the student has actually been taught.

Ethics in the IA, and the rules that are not optional

  • Informed consent in writing, with the script in an appendix
  • A right to withdraw that is explained before participation, not after
  • Debriefing planned before data collection, not written afterwards
  • Anonymity that survives naming the school, the class and the year group

Every Psychology internal assessment involves human participants, which makes ethics a design constraint rather than a paragraph to append. The IB's ethical guidelines require informed consent, a clear right to withdraw, debriefing after participation, anonymity in reporting, and protection of participants from harm or undue stress. Certain participant groups and certain procedures are ruled out entirely, and a study that breaches the guidelines is a problem for the school as well as the student. The report has to describe what the student actually did about each of these, with the consent and debriefing materials included as appendices.

In practice the breaches we see are mundane rather than dramatic. Students run their experiment on classmates in a corridor without a consent script. They write a debriefing paragraph after the data is collected. They name a school, a class or a participant in a way that defeats anonymity. They design a task that deliberately misleads participants and then describe the deception as a control. Every one of these is fixable at the design stage and expensive to fix afterwards, because the only remedy once data is collected is to collect it again.

This is also the point in the course where a tutor is most useful and most easily misused. The useful version is a session before data collection that reads the proposed design out loud and asks what the consent script says, who the participants are, how withdrawal works in practice, and what the debrief will tell them. The misused version is a tutor handed a finished report and asked to improve it, which drifts towards supplying text. We keep the session before the data, not after the draft, for exactly that reason - and the student's own words are the only words that ever appear in their report.

06

The Sharjah calendar: Ramadan, the commute and when work actually lands

A Psychology plan that ignores the Sharjah calendar loses weeks it then rebuys at the worst time of year. Diploma candidates here sit the May session, and the twelve weeks before it collide in most recent years with Ramadan and a shortened school day. A 5pm slot that worked in November does not work in Ramadan, and families who do not re-plan simply stop for a month. The functional answer is post-Iftar sessions at around 9pm or 9.30pm Gulf Standard Time, which exist as an option only because delivery is over video.

Outside Ramadan the binding constraint is the commute. A Sharjah student at a Dubai school is not realistically available before 7pm on a weekday, and students in Al Taawun, Al Majaz and Al Nahda are the most affected. Saturday mornings are the most dependable recurring slot in this emirate and are where the long jobs belong: IA data analysis, which needs an unbroken stretch, and timed Paper 3 questions, which need marking time afterwards. Local-campus students in Muwaileh have genuine midweek afternoon availability and should use it.

Counting backwards is the part nobody in this market teaches, so here it is. The IA deadline is internal and set by the school, which puts it earlier than parents expect and usually before the mock window. Mocks are the real diagnostic. The eight to ten weeks after mocks are the only period in which Paper 3 technique and option-essay structure genuinely move. IB session and results dates are deliberately not restated on this page: ibo.org blocks automated checking, so confirm every IB date with your school's IB coordinator or on ibo.org itself. Who regulates what in Sharjah, and who regulates your tutor

  • Sharjah schools: SPEA, which also approves fees, curricula and assessment methods
  • Your tutor: MoHRE private tuition work permit, free of charge for two years
  • No published fine schedule exists, so no figure should be quoted at you
  • Do not hire your child's own classroom teacher privately

Private schools in Sharjah are regulated by the Sharjah Private Education Authority, which regulates private education in the emirate, and which along with Ras Al Khaimah's Department of Knowledge approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. That reach beyond inspection is unusual and worth knowing. Dubai's private schools answer to KHDA, which is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in that emirate; Abu Dhabi and Al Ain answer to ADEK, which supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools there; and the federal Ministry of Education supervises private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah.

Private tutors are regulated separately, by MoHRE. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 Regarding the Introduction of Private Tuition Work Permits, and it is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers at government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, university students, and school students aged 15 to 18. The official route is MoHRE's own service, Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, via the MoHRE smart app, website or e-services, with a stated two-working-day completion time and no listed fee. Individuals tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule is published, so any amount quoted at you is somebody's guess.

Two boundaries follow. A tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai is a different legal entity from an individual tutor and needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute; nobody should use a regulator's name as a credential without producing the number. And in Abu Dhabi, ADEK's professional-ethics rules prohibit private and charter school staff from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, with the MoHRE permit's code of conduct barring the same thing - press-reported, so verify against current ADEK material. IB Gram holds no permit, accreditation, licence or endorsement from SPEA, KHDA, ADEK, the Ministry of Education or the IB, and says so on every page.

Online, in-home or group for Psychology in this emirate

The in-home market in Sharjah is real and the question deserves a straight answer rather than a sales line. In-home one-to-one across the UAE is quoted at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour with travel included, and in-home monthly packages of AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour sessions appear on provider pages in this market. What that premium pays for is a person in the room and the time it took them to get there. In Muwaileh, where consecutive sessions in one community are possible, the overhead is modest. On the east coast it is prohibitive, and on the Dubai-border commute at 6pm it is unpredictable in a way price cannot fix.

IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE at all. Home visits are a service we run only in India, and every UAE page on this site says the same. Sharjah Psychology lessons are one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time with the same tutor each week. The argument is subject-specific rather than general: what a Psychology student needs is somebody who has marked Paper 3 and can justify a Wilcoxon over a Mann-Whitney in two sentences, and the chance that such a person lives near any particular Sharjah address is close to nil. Video removes the map from the matching problem entirely.

Format also changes what a session can hold. A shared screen carries the unseen stimulus, the mark scheme and the student's annotated answer at the same time. A timed Paper 3 answer can be photographed, submitted and returned marked before the next session. Statistics work is easier over a shared spreadsheet than over a kitchen table. Tuition-centre group classes stay the cheapest option per hour in this market and the worst fit for Psychology specifically, because the option, the level and the IA topic differ student by student even inside one school.

Getting started, including what happens if no specialist is free

  • Confirm level and option before anything is booked
  • Free first lesson, used as a diagnostic, no card required
  • Coverage limits disclosed rather than papered over with a substitution
  • Progress read off annotated scripts, not off impressions

The honest version of the matching process has a failure case in it, and no competitor page in this market discloses one. Psychology at Higher Level with a specific option and Paper 3 experience is a narrow requirement. Most weeks it is available within a couple of days. Occasionally, in the pre-session window when every Gulf Diploma candidate wants the same four evening slots, the right specialist is not free at the time a Sharjah family needs. When that happens we say so rather than substituting a generalist and hoping.

The alternatives we offer in that case are stated up front: a different slot with the right specialist, including a post-Iftar or weekend-morning time; a shorter targeted block on the component that moves most while you wait; or a tutor based outside the UAE working in Gulf Standard Time, which for this subject changes nothing material because delivery was always over video. What we will not do is put a general studies tutor on an HL Paper 3 brief, because that is how a family pays specialist money for hours that do not move a mark.

Everything before that is simple. Tell us the level, the option the school teaches, and the component you are worried about. Send a recent marked essay or an IA draft if one exists. Take the free first lesson and use it as a diagnostic: by the end you should have a named weakness, a session count and a slot that survives a Sharjah school run. Then review against marked work every few weeks rather than against how the sessions felt, and change the tutor rather than adding hours if the marked work is not moving.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Sharjah

What changes across Sharjah is not whether a Psychology tutor is available but when a session can start and who the student is competing with for the slot. These are the patterns we see by area.

Al Taawun

Dense towers on the Dubai side of the lagoon with a largely Dubai-schooled population. Students get home late and tired; a 60-minute session at 7.45pm GST works far better here than a 90-minute one, and Paper 1 timing drills suit that length.

Abu Shagara

Older central district with a strong Indian-curriculum presence and a thin Diploma cohort. Psychology candidates here are often the only one in their year group taking the option their school chose, which removes any possibility of revising with a peer.

Muwaileh

The emirate's biggest school concentration, and the one place in Sharjah where a group Psychology class is even conceivable. Local campuses finish earlier, so 5.30pm GST slots are realistic and a two-hour IA statistics session can actually be scheduled midweek.

Al Majaz

Central, commuter-heavy, and the area most sensitive to Al Ittihad Road. Families here compare Sharjah and Dubai tutoring prices side by side because they already shop in both emirates. Weekend mornings hold better than weekday evenings in exam term.

Al Rahmaniya and Al Zahia

Newer low-rise communities with long school runs in both directions and a mix of Sharjah and Dubai school places. The reliable recurring slot is Saturday morning, which is when IA data analysis is best done because it needs an uninterrupted stretch.

University City

Postgraduate availability nearby pushes down the local price of general subject help and has no effect at all on Diploma Psychology, where the relevant scarcity is Paper 3 marking experience rather than a degree in the subject.

Kalba and Khor Fakkan

SPEA-regulated east-coast towns roughly two hours from the city. There is no specialist Psychology tutoring market here at any price. Every student we have supported on this coast has worked over video, and the alternative is nothing rather than something more expensive.

Al Qasimia and Halwan

Established districts with mature school sites and small sixth forms. Combined HL and SL Psychology teaching is most common in schools of this size, which means one-to-one is where the level-specific work - Paper 3 for HL, Paper 1 timing for SL - actually gets done.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Sharjah

Muwaileh and Sharjah University City

The emirate's main cluster of larger private campuses under SPEA, spanning British, Indian, American and IB provision. Students we support attend schools across this area; the names are given as context for how the Sharjah market works and imply no relationship of any kind.

  • Victoria International School of Sharjah
  • Wesgreen International School
  • The American School of Creative Science, Muwaileh
  • Scholars International Academy
  • Emirates National School, Sharjah

Central Sharjah and the lagoon districts

Al Majaz, Al Taawun, Abu Shagara and Al Qasimia, where many families hold school places across the Dubai boundary. The student's assessment calendar follows the school's regulator, which is frequently KHDA rather than SPEA, and that is the single most common source of scheduling confusion we see.

  • Sharjah English School
  • Our Own English High School, Sharjah
  • Delhi Private School Sharjah
  • Australian International School
  • The International School of Creative Science

East coast: Khor Fakkan, Kalba and Dibba Al-Hisn

Still regulated by SPEA but physically separated from the rest of the emirate by the Hajar mountains. The private-school set is small and Diploma Psychology provision is rare, so students here are frequently studying an option their school teaches to a class of two.

  • Khor Fakkan Private School
  • Kalba Private School

School names appear as context for the Sharjah education market only. IB Gram has no affiliation with, partnership with or endorsement from any school, school group or education authority named here.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Name the level and the option

Higher or Standard, and which of the four options the school actually teaches - abnormal, developmental, health, or the psychology of human relationships. Higher Level students need two. This single answer determines which tutors are a sensible match and prevents the most expensive mistake in the subject.

  2. 02

Send one piece of marked work

A marked option essay, a short-answer question with the teacher's comments, or an IA draft. The mark matters less than the comments: criticism of missing evaluation points to a different plan from criticism of missing content. Without it, any provider is guessing at the diagnosis.

  3. 03

Take the free first lesson as a diagnostic

The first session is free and is used to find the actual weakness rather than to sell a package. Expect to be asked to write a timed short-answer question in it. You should finish with a named problem, a component and a session count, with no card requirement and nothing committed.

  4. 04

Fix a slot that survives the commute and Ramadan

Agree a recurring time in Gulf Standard Time that works on a weekday after a Dubai school run, and agree in advance how it shifts during Ramadan to a post-Iftar slot. Put the long jobs - IA analysis, timed Paper 3 - on Saturday mornings where there is room for marking afterwards.

  5. 05

Review on marked work every three to four weeks

Progress is read off annotated answers and criterion-level IA feedback. Agree at the outset what gets marked and how often. If the marked work is flat after a month, change the tutor rather than buying more hours from the same one; adding hours to a bad match is the most common way families overspend.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched on option and level, checked before booking

Teaching the wrong option is the costliest error available in Diploma Psychology and the easiest to prevent. We confirm the option from the student's own folder, not from a school prospectus, and we confirm the level because Higher Level needs a second option and a whole extra paper.

Paper 3 treated as its own component

The HL research-methods paper is a fifth of the grade, is taught last in most schools, and rewards a repeatable answer shape rather than content recall. We staff it with tutors who have marked it, and we do not let it be absorbed into general revision where it quietly disappears.

AED bands published with sources

Three of the six ranking providers researched in this market publish no price at all and two quote in US dollars. Every band here is in AED, attributed to the provider or tracker that published it, and dated October 2026. A sourced number can be argued with; a withheld one cannot be planned against.

The academic-honesty line is drawn in public

A tutor teaches, questions and gives criterion-level feedback on the student's own report. Nobody supplies text, runs the analysis or hands back a version to copy. One operator in this market sells completed internal assessments outright, and the consequence of that falls on the student's whole Diploma.

Online because of the specialism, not to cut cost

The person who can mark an HL research-methods answer and justify a Wilcoxon over a Mann-Whitney does not live near most Sharjah addresses, and nobody of that description lives in Kalba or Khor Fakkan. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE; video is what makes the match possible.

Coverage limits disclosed, not disguised

If the right HL specialist is not free in the week you need them, we say so and offer a different slot, a shorter targeted block, or a tutor working from outside the UAE in Gulf Standard Time. No competitor page researched in this market discloses a coverage limit at all.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Sharjah: your questions answered

What does an IB DP Psychology tutor charge per hour in Sharjah?+

Market rates for an IB specialist working online in this market run roughly AED 200 to 450 an hour, and a premium named tutor is published at AED 650 by one provider. A qualified subject tutor without Diploma component depth sits nearer AED 150 to 300, and budget general tutors run AED 45 to 150. In-home visits including travel are quoted at AED 180 to 500. Those are other providers' published figures and rate-tracker bands as of October 2026, not an IB Gram price list. Our rate depends on the tutor, level, option and component, and the first lesson is free.

Which Psychology option does my child need a tutor for?+

Whichever one their school teaches, and that is not a rhetorical answer. The four options are abnormal psychology, developmental psychology, health psychology and the psychology of human relationships. Standard Level students answer on one, Higher Level on two, and the school chooses. Check the option headings in the student's own folder rather than a prospectus, because a tutor teaching the wrong option produces a student who is better at psychology and no better at their exam. In small Sharjah cohorts this mismatch often goes unnoticed until a mock paper comes back in term two.

What is Paper 3 in IB Psychology and why do HL students need it taught separately?+

Paper 3 is Higher Level only and is worth 20 per cent of the grade. The student reads an unseen stimulus describing a piece of research and answers three short-answer questions about how the research was done: the sampling method and what it implies, ethical considerations, the credibility of the findings, researcher and participant bias, and whether results generalise or transfer. Almost no content knowledge is involved. It has a repeating answer shape, which makes it highly teachable, and it is taught last in most schools, which makes it the component most often missing from a revision plan.

How long is the Psychology internal assessment and how is it marked?+

It is a report on a replication of a simple experimental study, written in 1,800 to 2,200 words and marked out of 22 across four criteria. Criterion A, introduction, carries 6 marks; criterion B, exploration, carries 4; criterion C, analysis, carries 6; and criterion D, evaluation, carries 6. It is 25 per cent of the Standard Level grade and 20 per cent at Higher Level. Most marks are lost in criterion C, to a mean reported without a measure of dispersion and an inferential test chosen without justification.

Can a tutor help with the Psychology IA without breaking IB rules?+

Yes, inside a clear boundary. A tutor can explain each criterion, interrogate a weak hypothesis, teach how to choose between a Mann-Whitney U, a Wilcoxon, a chi-square and a t-test, and give criterion-letter feedback on a draft the student wrote from their own data. A tutor must never run the analysis, supply sentences or return a rewritten version. One operator in this market sells completed internal assessments; under IB academic-honesty rules the malpractice finding lands on the student and affects the whole Diploma, not one grade.

Does IB Gram send a Psychology tutor to our home in Sharjah?+

No. IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; that service exists only in India. Sharjah lessons are delivered one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time with the same tutor each week. The in-home market does exist and is quoted at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour with travel. For Psychology specifically the trade is poor: the constraint is finding somebody who has marked the HL research-methods paper and taught your child's exact option, and that person is unlikely to live within driving distance of any particular Sharjah address.

My child can describe studies but keeps scoring badly on essays. What fixes that?+

The problem is almost certainly critical thinking rather than content, and more studies will not fix it. Paper 1 Section B and the option paper pay for evidence weighed against itself: methodology, sample, cultural limits, whether the finding replicates, what it does not show. The intervention is eight to twelve sessions of structured essay work on paragraphs that carry a claim, a study and a limitation, with every essay marked and returned annotated. Students usually see movement in the second or third marked essay, not the first.

How many short-answer questions are in Paper 1 and how long should each take?+

Paper 1 Section A is three short-answer questions, one on each of the biological, cognitive and sociocultural approaches, followed by Section B, which is one essay chosen from three. The practical problem is almost never knowledge; it is that students write essay-length answers to short-answer questions, run out of time and lose Section B marks they could have earned. Timing drills are four to six sessions of work, which makes them the cheapest high-yield intervention in the subject at any of the market rates on this page.

What ethics rules apply to the Psychology IA experiment?+

The IB's ethical guidelines require informed consent, a clear right to withdraw, debriefing after participation, anonymity in reporting, and protection from harm or undue stress, with certain participant groups and procedures ruled out entirely. The consent script and debriefing materials belong in the appendices. The breaches we see are mundane: an experiment run on classmates with no written consent, a debrief written after the data was collected, or anonymity defeated by naming a class. Every one is fixable at the design stage and only fixable afterwards by collecting the data again.

Can Psychology sessions work around Ramadan and a Dubai school run from Sharjah?+

Yes, and they should be planned that way rather than cancelled week by week. During Ramadan, post-Iftar slots around 9pm or 9.30pm Gulf Standard Time hold far better than late afternoon, and video delivery is what makes that time workable at all. Outside Ramadan, students at Dubai schools living in Al Taawun, Al Majaz or Al Nahda are rarely free before 7pm, so the weekday slot settles at 7.45pm. Saturday mornings take the long jobs: IA data analysis and timed Paper 3 answers that need marking afterwards.

Is Psychology an easy IB subject to take at Higher Level?+

It reads as approachable and marks as demanding, which is why it catches families out. There is no mathematics in the written papers and the vocabulary is familiar, so students choose it expecting a lighter load. Then the grade turns out to rest on criticising research rather than recalling it, on a second option at Higher Level, on a whole paper about methodology, and on a statistics report. Higher Level Psychology is a real HL subject with four components and a 20 per cent research-methods paper that does not exist at Standard Level.

Which Sharjah areas can your Psychology tutors teach students in?+

All of them, because sessions run over live video rather than by road. In practice we work with students in Al Taawun, Abu Shagara, Al Majaz, Muwaileh, Al Rahmaniya, Al Zahia, University City, Al Qasimia and the east-coast towns of Khor Fakkan and Kalba. What changes by area is the timing rather than the availability: Muwaileh students at local campuses have genuine midweek afternoon slots, while a Dubai-schooled student in Al Taawun is realistically available from about 7.45pm.

What happens if no HL Psychology specialist is free when we need one?+

We tell you, which no competitor page in this market does. Higher Level Psychology with a specific option and research-methods marking experience is a narrow brief, and in the pre-session window the right person is sometimes not free at the hour you want. The alternatives we offer are a different slot with the right specialist including post-Iftar or weekend times, a shorter targeted block on the highest-yield component while you wait, or a tutor working from outside the UAE in Gulf Standard Time. We will not put a generalist on an HL Paper 3 brief.

Do tutors in Sharjah need a government permit to teach privately?+

Yes. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers at government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Applications go through MoHRE's smart app, website or e-services, under the service name Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, with a stated two-working-day completion time. Tutoring without a permit attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published.

Can two students share Psychology sessions to split the cost?+

Only where the option and the level match exactly, and ideally where both students are in the same class so the internal deadlines align. Small-group rates in this market sit well below one-to-one per student, so a pairing is the clearest route to a lower cost per family. The constraint is strict for this subject: an HL student needs a second option and the research-methods paper, neither of which can be taught usefully alongside an SL student. Both students' answers are still marked individually.

Confirm the option, then book the diagnostic

Two pieces of information decide whether Psychology tutoring in Sharjah is money well spent: the level, and the option the school actually teaches. Check the second one in your child's folder tonight. Then take the free first lesson, bring a marked essay or an IA draft, and let a Diploma Psychology specialist name which of the four expensive problems you have - short-answer timing, critical-thinking essays, an untaught option, or the research-methods paper. From that you get a session count and a quote you can hold against the AED bands above. Lessons run one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time, from Al Taawun to Kalba, with no home visits and no promised grade.
