IB IGCSE Tutor near me in Mina Al Arab

A search for an IB IGCSE tutor near me in Mina Al Arab is usually a request for one specific syllabus, not for a general teacher. Physics 0625 and Diploma Physics share a name and little else. This page sets the two systems side by side subject by subject: the codes past papers must come from, how practical work is assessed in each, and what a tutor may legitimately give a student. Lessons for Mina Al Arab families run one-to-one over live video.

  • Cambridge, Pearson and IB syllabuses taught by specialists in each, not interchangeably
  • Past-paper work matched to the exact syllabus code your child is entered for
  • We cite and link official syllabus material rather than redistributing it
  • Feedback on the student's own coursework; we never write assessed work

IB & IGCSE in Mina Al Arab

Two systems, one subject name, and the confusion that costs marks

A family in Mina Al Arab asking for help with chemistry may mean one of at least four things. Cambridge IGCSE Chemistry 0620 at Extended tier. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Chemistry 4CH1. IB Diploma Chemistry at Standard Level. IB Diploma Chemistry at Higher Level. Those four share a periodic table and diverge in nearly everything that decides a grade: paper structure, what the marking rewards, whether there is an independent investigation, how practical skills are examined, and which past material is even relevant.

A tutor who does not establish which one, in the first conversation, is guessing. And the guess has a cost that shows up late. A student given Cambridge-style structured recall practice for a Diploma paper that wanted extended reasoning will feel well prepared and score poorly. A Diploma-style open investigation offered to an IGCSE candidate wastes hours on something that will never be assessed, because the IGCSE route tests practical understanding through a written paper rather than through a project. The fix costs five minutes and a look at the statement of entry.

This page is therefore organised around the differences rather than around the service. It covers the subjects where the two systems diverge most, the syllabus codes that determine which past papers are the right ones, how practical and coursework elements are handled on each side, and a question nobody in this market addresses: what a tutor may legitimately supply a student, given that syllabus documents, past papers and mark schemes are the boards' copyright. None of that is advanced knowledge; it is administrative detail that happens to decide outcomes, which is exactly the kind of thing a commercial page usually leaves out.

That last point deserves a sentence here because it is a real distinction between providers. We do not host, reproduce or supply board material as downloads. We reference it, cite the official source, and link out, and the papers a student works from should come from their school or from the board's own channels. A provider handing over folders of scanned material is doing something that is not theirs to do, and for unreleased material it is a malpractice exposure as well as a copyright one.

On delivery, since the search says near me: IB Gram teaches Mina Al Arab students one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. We do not place a tutor at a UAE address, and in-person visiting is a service we run only in India. In a small emirate with a small private-school sector, that is what makes it possible to put an actual Diploma Higher Level specialist and an actual Cambridge Extended specialist in front of two children in the same household, rather than one person approximating both.

At a glance

  • Establish the board, the code and the level before any teaching begins
  • Cambridge 0620, Pearson 4CH1 and Diploma Chemistry are three different courses
  • IGCSE practical understanding is examined in writing; the Diploma requires an investigation
  • Official papers come from the school or the board, not from a tutor's archive
  • Ras Al Khaimah private schools are regulated by the emirate's Department of Knowledge

Four qualifications are in play for a Mina Al Arab household running both systems. The distinguishing feature of each is what it does with practical and independent work.

Cambridge IGCSE

Terminal in most subjects, with two or three written papers and syllabus codes that decide past-paper selection: 0580 Mathematics, 0606 Additional Mathematics, 0620 Chemistry, 0625 Physics, 0610 Biology, 0500 First Language English. Practical understanding in the sciences is typically assessed through a written alternative-to-practical paper rather than through assessed experimental work, which is a significant difference from the Diploma.

Confirm the centre's timetable zone with your Ras Al Khaimah school. Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones, states it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, and cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

May/June and November sittings with its own codes: 4MA1 Mathematics A, 4PH1 Physics, 4CH1 Chemistry, 4BI1 Biology. Some courses run modularly, with units banked across sittings. The paper structures and mark-scheme phrasing differ from Cambridge's even where the content overlaps almost entirely, which is why past papers have to match the code rather than the subject name.

Pearson publishes a provisional timetable before each series and a final version closer to it, so plan from months and confirm days against the live official timetable. The published history is a safe guide: the November 2026 final timetable ran to 19 November 2026.

IB Middle Years Programme

Criterion-assessed against descriptors A to D with a Personal Project in the final year. Where a household has one child in the Middle Years Programme and another sitting IGCSEs, the two are being judged on genuinely different things, and comparing their reports is not a meaningful exercise. One is being assessed on process and criteria, the other on timed recall and application.

In Ras Al Khaimah a move between a Middle Years school and an IGCSE school creates real content gaps in maths and science, because the two sequence topics differently. A single diagnostic session will locate them and most are closeable over a summer.

IB Diploma Programme

Six subjects, usually three at Higher Level, scored out of 45, with written papers plus an internally assessed component in every subject, marked against lettered criteria with published maximums. Add Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay at a 4,000-word limit and Creativity, Activity, Service. Higher Level courses add topics and in several subjects an extra paper.

UAE schools sit the May session with November available where offered. No specific IB examination or results date appears on this page, because the IB's own site cannot be checked automatically; the coordinator's internal deadline sheet is the calendar that governs the year.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the subjects where knowing the exact syllabus matters most, with what distinguishes the two systems' treatment of each.

Chemistry across both systems

IGCSE Core and Extended; Diploma HL and SL

Mole arithmetic appears in both and is assumed automatic at Diploma level. The divergence is assessment: IGCSE tests practical understanding in writing, while the Diploma requires a self-designed investigation marked against lettered criteria. Energetics and equilibrium are Diploma depth rather than new content.

Physics across both systems

IGCSE Core and Extended; Diploma HL and SL

The IGCSE alternative-to-practical paper rewards precise method writing. The Diploma expects uncertainty propagation, error bars and judgements about whether a gradient is consistent with a prediction, which barely feature at IGCSE and carry marks in both the papers and the investigation.

Biology across both systems

IGCSE Core and Extended; Diploma HL and SL

Terminology precision carries marks in both, with the Diploma demanding more of it. The genuine difference is scale of content and the investigation requirement, where a narrow, well-controlled study outscores an ambitious one in a way IGCSE practice never teaches.

Mathematics (Cambridge 0580 / Edexcel 4MA1)

Core and Extended

Terminal, two papers per tier, no coursework. Extended-tier fluency is what the Diploma mathematics courses assume, so a Core entry is a constraint on the next qualification as well as on this one. Method marks are the recurring loss, usually from omitted working.

Additional Mathematics (Cambridge 0606)

IGCSE, Extended only

The bridge subject. Calculus, logarithms, binomial expansion and kinematics a year early, and the strongest available predictor of comfort in Diploma Analysis and Approaches. Its absence is the most closeable gap in the whole IGCSE-to-Diploma transition.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

Diploma HL and SL

Algebra-heavy and proof-oriented, with an Exploration marked against lettered criteria. The characteristic Exploration failure is choosing an application and attaching mathematics to it rather than the reverse, which produces a readable document with too little mathematics for the upper bands.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

Diploma HL and SL

Statistics and modelling, with legitimate heavy use of technology. The recurring loss is interpretation: a correct calculation with no statement of what it means in context. The route choice against Analysis and Approaches must be made before the option form, because some universities specify the latter.

English: 0500 and Diploma Language and Literature

IGCSE single tier; Diploma HL and SL

First Language English 0500 rewards accurate reading and fluent, structured writing. The Diploma course rewards argument about how texts operate on readers, across literary and non-literary material, with an Individual Oral in a school recording window. A different discipline rather than a harder version.

Economics and Business across both

IGCSE 0455 and 0450; Diploma HL and SL

Diagram accuracy decides analysis marks on both sides. The Diploma adds internally assessed commentary or research work spread across the course, which needs scheduling rather than cramming, and evaluation that weighs competing effects rather than restating a case.

Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies

School-set courses alongside either system

Taught in every UAE private school regardless of the licensed curriculum, since the federal baseline covers Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies. Support works from the school's own material, because using different or additional content without ministry permission is not permitted.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats, and in a two-system household a family usually needs two of them running at different cadences for different children.

Code-specific subject teaching

Weekly or fortnightly work on one named syllabus, with past material from the correct code and the official subject document open where it matters. The format for a genuine content gap, and the one where establishing the code in week one changes everything that follows.

  • Board, code, tier and level confirmed before the first session
  • Past questions selected from the matching specification
  • Each topic closed with timed questions marked to the right scheme

Component coaching, Diploma side

Short blocks on an Internal Assessment, an Exploration, the Extended Essay or the Theory of Knowledge essay. Criteria literacy, question narrowing and feedback on the student's own draft. The tutor questions and responds; the student writes every word.

  • Criteria read letter by letter with their mark allocations
  • Research question narrowed until genuinely controllable
  • Written feedback on drafts, never a rewrite

Technique work, either system

Timed sections marked against the right scheme or criteria, with command terms and mark-scheme language as the explicit subject. Usually the fastest-moving block available and the one most households should try before buying anything longer.

  • Command-term drill against real question stems
  • Marks tracked by question type, not by total
  • A stop rule for questions consuming disproportionate time

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Mina Al Arab

01

What "near me" means when the request is a named syllabus

Proximity solves a real problem: it makes somebody accountable and available. In a small emirate it also creates a different problem, because the smaller the local pool the more likely it is that the person who can reach you teaches the subject generally rather than the syllabus specifically. In Mina Al Arab, where the private-school sector across the whole emirate is modest, the chance that the nearest available tutor has taught the exact specification your child is entered for is not high.

The distinction is not pedantic. Cambridge IGCSE Physics 0625 and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Physics 4PH1 test much the same physics with different paper structures and different mark-scheme phrasing. Diploma Physics at Higher Level assumes a quantitative treatment of uncertainty that neither IGCSE requires. A tutor teaching physics in general will cover the content and miss the thing the paper actually pays for, and the student will discover that in a hall.

So the honest reframing of the search is this: what you want is not somebody nearby, it is somebody specific. The qualities proximity is standing in for are accountability, consistency and responsiveness, and those come from a named tutor who stays the same, a written plan, and a review against marked evidence. None of the three is geographic.

IB Gram does not place a tutor at an address in Ras Al Khaimah or anywhere in the UAE; in-person visiting is a service we run only in India. What online delivery makes possible in a household running two systems is the thing that matters most here: a Cambridge Extended specialist for one child and a Diploma Higher Level specialist for the other, on the same evening, from two different people who each do one of those things properly.

02

The same subject under two systems, side by side

Put the two systems next to each other and the pattern is consistent across the sciences. Content overlaps substantially at the foundation. Assessment diverges sharply. IGCSE concentrates almost everything in timed written papers, including the examination of practical understanding, which is typically tested through a written alternative-to-practical paper rather than through assessed experimental work. The Diploma splits the grade between written papers and an independent investigation marked against lettered criteria.

That single structural difference changes what good preparation looks like. For IGCSE, time is best spent on timed questions marked to the published scheme, because that is where every mark lives. For the Diploma, the first-year priority is the investigation, because a well-chosen research question is worth more than any amount of write-up polish applied later and because it has a school deadline that the written papers do not.

The second difference is the marking logic. An IGCSE mark scheme awards points for specified content: the named process, the correct unit, the comparison made explicit. Diploma criteria describe a standard of work in bands, and the student is placed in the band their work matches. A student who is excellent at hitting mark-scheme points can produce an investigation that is correct throughout and still land mid-band, because the criteria were asking about something the student never considered.

The table below sets this out. It is deliberately about structure rather than about percentages, because exact weightings belong in the official subject documents your school holds, and publishing them from memory would be precisely the kind of unsourced precision this project avoids. Take the numbers from the specification; take the structural picture from here.

03

The code problem: which past papers are the right ones

Of all the avoidable failures in tutoring, working from the wrong past papers is the most common and the easiest to fix. A parent says chemistry, a tutor finds chemistry papers, and three months of practice happens against a specification the student is not entered for. The content will mostly overlap. The paper structure, the question phrasing and the mark scheme language will not, and those are what the student is being trained on.

The remedy is a five-minute check at the start. Take the statement of entry, not the textbook, because schools change board between cohorts and shelves lag years behind. Read off the board and the code for each subject. For Diploma subjects, establish the level and the current subject guide, because specifications are revised and material for a previous version teaches an outdated structure. Write all of it down and give it to the tutor.

The second part of the remedy is where the material comes from, and it deserves more attention than it gets. Syllabus documents, past papers and mark schemes are the boards' copyright. A tutor who hands over folders of scanned papers is redistributing material that is not theirs, and for unreleased material that is a malpractice exposure as well as a copyright one. The legitimate route is the student's school, which holds access as a centre, and the boards' own published channels.

Our practice, stated plainly: we cite and link official sources, we work from material the student legitimately holds, and we do not host or supply board documents as downloads. That is less convenient than an archive, and it is the correct position. The table below maps the common codes so the first conversation can be specific; the material itself comes from your school.

Practical science: a written paper against an investigation

This is where the two systems diverge most and where preparation most often goes wrong. The IGCSE route generally tests practical understanding through writing: a paper that asks how an experiment would be carried out, what would be measured, which variables controlled, what the sources of error are. It rewards precision of description. A student who can do the experiment but cannot specify it loses marks they would never lose in a laboratory.

The Diploma requires something categorically different: an investigation the student designs, carries out and writes up, marked against lettered criteria with published maximums. Here the marks are decided before the writing. An investigation with one uncontrolled variable - temperature drifting, a concentration prepared imprecisely, a timing method dominated by human reaction - limits the analysis and evaluation criteria permanently, no matter how carefully the report is produced.

Both are teachable and neither prepares for the other. The IGCSE skill is a writing skill: six focused sessions on describing a method to a repeatable standard will usually show up in a mark, which makes it one of the best-value interventions available in the whole qualification. The Diploma skill is a design skill, and the highest-value hour is spent narrowing a research question before anything is measured.

For a household in Mina Al Arab running both, the practical implication is that the two children need different work from different people at different points in the year. The IGCSE candidate needs method-writing practice in the spring of Year 11. The Diploma student needs investigation design in the first year, long before any deadline makes it urgent. Buying the same thing for both, at the same time, is the commonest way two-system households waste money.

Mathematics from 0580 to Analysis and Approaches

Mathematics is the subject where the two systems join most directly, and where the join is most often mishandled. A Diploma mathematics course assumes Extended-tier fluency, not Core, and assumes it is automatic rather than achievable. A student who rearranges an equation correctly but slowly will manage at Standard Level and find Higher Level unrelenting, because the pace of the course never allows the backlog to clear.

Additional Mathematics 0606 is the bridge and its presence or absence is the single most useful fact about a student entering Diploma mathematics. Where it was taken and went well, calculus, logarithms and kinematics are familiar and the first Diploma term is a continuation. Where it was not taken, there is a specific, finite gap - differentiation, function transformations, logarithmic manipulation - that a focused block closes in six to ten sessions.

The route decision deserves evidence rather than instinct. Analysis and Approaches is algebra-heavy and proof-oriented; Applications and Interpretation is statistics-led and technology-heavy, genuinely rigorous, and the better fit for a large number of capable students who are not fast algebraists. The practical test is narrow: time a set of 0580 Extended manipulation questions. Accuracy with slow speed points one way, accuracy at pace with curiosity about why a method works points the other.

Then check the destination, because some university courses specify Analysis and Approaches by name and requirements change. Check the current ones rather than relying on an older sibling's experience, and check them before the option form goes in. A route change early in the first Diploma year is awkward; a route change in the second year is usually impossible.

06

English and the humanities: where the discipline changes

In the sciences the two systems differ in assessment. In English they differ in what is being assessed. First Language English 0500 rewards accurate reading and fluent, well-organised writing, and a student who writes clearly tends to do well. The Diploma's language courses reward argument about how texts work on readers, across literary and non-literary material, with an Individual Oral recorded in a school window and, at Higher Level, an additional essay with its own internal deadlines.

The student most at risk in that transition is the one who did well at IGCSE. Fluency was rewarded, so fluency became the strategy, and fluency alone lands mid-band in a Diploma course that wants analysis of technique and effect supported by quotation. The shift takes a term of fortnightly work rather than a fortnight of intensive work, which is why it belongs in the first Diploma year.

In economics and business the continuity is stronger. Diagram accuracy decides the analysis marks on both sides, and an evaluation paragraph that weighs competing effects rather than restating a case separates the top band in both. What the Diploma adds is internally assessed commentary or research work spread across the course, which needs scheduling. A student who treats those as end-of-term tasks meets three of them in the same fortnight as everything else.

Theory of Knowledge has no IGCSE equivalent at all and is therefore the component students handle worst. It is assessed against published criteria on a prescribed title, and the commonest failure is writing about knowledge in general rather than answering the title. A tutor can discuss the title, question the argument and respond to a draft. Nobody writes any part of it, including a paragraph offered as an illustration.

07

What a tutor may legitimately give a student

  • Board material is cited and linked, never hosted or redistributed
  • Past papers come from the school as examination centre, or the board's channels
  • A tutor explains criteria, questions the plan and feeds back on drafts
  • No writing, no rewriting, no supplied data, no editing to completion
  • A provider offering completed coursework is selling the student a risk

This question has two halves and almost nobody in this market addresses either. The first is material. Syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes, grade-boundary tables and subject guides are the boards' copyright. Referencing them, citing them and linking to the official source is legitimate. Hosting them, reproducing them or supplying them as downloads is not, and for unreleased material it carries a malpractice exposure in addition to the copyright problem. A provider with an archive to hand over is not being generous; they are distributing something that is not theirs.

The practical effect for a family is straightforward. The legitimate source of past material is the school, which holds access as an examination centre, and the boards' own published channels. A tutor works from what the student legitimately holds. That is marginally less convenient and it is the correct arrangement, and it is worth knowing which kind of provider you are dealing with.

The second half is assessed work, and the line is sharper on the Diploma side because internally assessed components can be ghost-written in a way that terminal papers cannot. A tutor may explain the criteria, question the plan or the method, point out where a conclusion exceeds the evidence, and give written feedback on the student's own draft. A tutor may not write any part of it, rewrite prose, supply data or edit it to completion. Nobody at IB Gram will do any of those things.

This is not an abstract concern in this search market. A site currently ranking on these queries advertises completed Internal Assessments for sale at a published price. The consequences of that transaction fall on the student, not on the seller: submitted work must be the student's own, and a breach is an academic-honesty matter with outcomes that can end a Diploma. Saying so explicitly is one of the few genuine differentiators available on a page like this.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Mina Al Arab

Across this emirate what varies between neighbourhoods is the household's evening, not the syllabus. These are the areas a Mina Al Arab family is usually comparing notes with.

Al Hamra Village

Gated community to the south with a campus inside it, so families there often have two children at the same school on the same calendar. Where a household splits across two systems, the scheduling problem is sharper.

Al Marjan Island

Reclaimed islands, apartment-heavy, with the most involved visitor access in the emirate. Where two children need two different specialists, requiring two people to arrive is an arrangement that fails most weeks.

Al Nakheel

The central district with most of the emirate's schooling. Families here have the widest local choice and still report the same difficulty: finding a tutor who knows a specific code rather than a subject in general.

Khuzam

Inland, close to the city, with short school runs and early study evenings. The easiest cluster for stacking two consecutive one-hour sessions for two children on different syllabuses.

Al Dhait

Established inland villa districts where a parent is often commuting. Later supervised study suits Diploma component reading more than it suits timed IGCSE paper work, which needs an alert student.

Al Qusaidat and Julphar

Older districts by the creek with the heaviest late-afternoon traffic in Ras Al Khaimah. Any plan requiring someone to arrive at a fixed hour degrades here over a term.

Al Mamourah and Seih Al Uraibi

Low-density districts with small school-age populations, so there is no realistic local market for a single syllabus at a single level. One-to-one at distance is the only format that exists.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the statement of entry, not the subject name

Board, code, tier and level for every subject in question, read off the entry document rather than the textbook. Schools change board between cohorts, and a tutor working from the wrong code is teaching a similar subject rather than the one your child sits.

  2. 02

Say which system each child is in

In a two-system household the two children need different work from different specialists at different points in the year. Telling us both at the start prevents the commonest waste in this market, which is buying the same thing twice.

  3. 03

Free trial lesson with the student's own work on screen

One 45 to 60-minute one-to-one session over live video, no card details, no obligation. The useful test is whether the tutor can name the criteria or the mark-scheme language for that specific syllabus without looking it up.

  4. 04

Agree a block per child, with its own target

Different cadences for different systems: method-writing practice in the IGCSE spring, investigation design in the Diploma first year. One plan covering both children at the same intensity is almost always wrong for at least one of them.

  5. 05

Review on timed work in the diagnosed area

At the end of the block the student sits timed questions, or submits a draft against the criteria, and the result is compared with the start. If nothing moved, the plan or the match was wrong. We would rather hear that at week three than at week twelve.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Specifications treated as different courses

Cambridge 0620, Pearson 4CH1 and Diploma Chemistry are three courses, not three names for one. We establish the board, the code and the level before teaching anything, because practice against the wrong specification feels productive and is not.

Two specialists for a two-system household

A Mina Al Arab family running an IGCSE candidate and a Diploma student needs two different people who each do one thing properly. Online delivery makes that possible on the same evening; a local search generally produces one person approximating both.

Board material cited, never redistributed

Syllabus documents, past papers and mark schemes belong to the boards. We reference and link them and work from material the student legitimately holds. A provider handing over an archive of scanned papers is distributing what is not theirs.

A hard line on assessed work

Criteria explained, plans questioned, drafts responded to. No writing, no rewriting, no supplied data, no completion. One site ranking on these searches sells finished Internal Assessments at a published price, and the risk in that sits entirely with the student.

Practical skills taught as the two different things they are

The IGCSE skill is specifying a method precisely enough to be repeated. The Diploma skill is designing an investigation that can be controlled. Six sessions on the first and one on the second are both cheap, and neither substitutes for the other.

No regulator claims and no invented statistics

IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation or licence from the Department of Knowledge, KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, MoHRE, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson, and has no UAE office. No figure appears on this page without a source and a date.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Mina Al Arab: your questions answered

Does it really matter whether my child sits Cambridge or Pearson IGCSE?+

Enough that a tutor should know before the first session. The two boards test much the same content with different paper structures and different mark-scheme phrasing, and past papers have to match the code rather than the subject name: Cambridge 0625 against Pearson 4PH1, Cambridge 0580 against Pearson 4MA1. Some Pearson courses also run modularly, with units banked across sittings, which changes the whole shape of a revision plan. Read the board off the statement of entry, because schools change board between cohorts and textbooks lag behind.

How different is Diploma Chemistry from IGCSE Chemistry?+

The content overlaps at the foundation and the assessment diverges sharply. Mole arithmetic appears in both and is assumed automatic at Diploma level. Energetics, equilibrium and organic mechanisms are new depth rather than new material. The structural difference is the investigation: IGCSE generally tests practical understanding through a written paper, while the Diploma requires a self-designed investigation marked against lettered criteria. A student excellent at IGCSE-style structured recall can score mid-band on that component without ever understanding why.

Where should my child get past papers from?+

From their school, which holds access as an examination centre, and from the boards' own published channels. Syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes and grade-boundary tables are the boards' copyright, so a tutor who hands over folders of scanned material is distributing what is not theirs, and for unreleased material that is a malpractice exposure as well as a copyright problem. We cite and link official sources and work from material the student legitimately holds. It is less convenient and it is the correct arrangement.

My two children are on different systems. Do we need two tutors?+

Usually, yes, and that is the honest answer rather than an upsell. An IGCSE candidate needs timed-paper technique marked against a specific mark scheme, in the spring of Year 11. A Diploma student needs investigation design and criteria literacy, in the first year, long before anything is urgent. Those are different skills at different times, and one person covering both tends to do each shallowly. Two consecutive one-hour online sessions on the same evening is the arrangement most two-system households in Ras Al Khaimah settle on.

What does the written practical paper reward for a candidate in Mina Al Arab?+

Precision of description. A question asks how an experiment would be carried out, and the marks go to what is varied, what is controlled, what is measured and by what means, in enough detail that someone else could repeat it. Students who have done the experiment lose marks because they summarise rather than specify. It is a writing skill rather than a laboratory skill, which is why six focused sessions on method writing is one of the best-value interventions available anywhere in the IGCSE sciences.

Why does an uncontrolled variable matter so much in a Diploma investigation?+

Because it caps the later criteria regardless of how good the report is. If temperature drifted, or a concentration was prepared imprecisely, or the timing method was dominated by human reaction, then the analysis cannot be sound and the evaluation becomes an account of a flawed design. Those criteria carry stated maximums and no amount of editing recovers them afterwards. This is why the highest-value hour in Diploma science tutoring is spent narrowing and controlling the question before anything is measured.

Does Additional Mathematics 0606 matter for Diploma maths?+

It is the strongest single predictor of comfort in Analysis and Approaches, because it introduces calculus, logarithms, binomial expansion and kinematics a year early and builds the algebraic speed the Diploma assumes rather than teaches. It is not a requirement and plenty of students manage without it. Where it was not taken, the gap is specific and finite - differentiation, function transformations, logarithmic manipulation - and a focused block closes most of it in six to ten sessions, best done in the summer.

How do the two grading systems compare?+

They are not really comparable and treating them as such causes confusion in households running both. IGCSE reports 9-1 per subject. The Diploma reports 1-7 per subject with additional points from the core, up to 45 overall. A grade 7 at IGCSE and a 7 in a Diploma subject are different achievements measured against different standards and different cohorts. The useful comparison is against the entry requirement for whatever comes next, not between siblings' report cards.

Which mathematics route should a student coming from 0580 Extended choose?+

Decide on evidence. Time a set of 0580 Extended algebraic manipulation questions. Accuracy with slow speed points towards Applications and Interpretation or Standard Level Analysis and Approaches. Accuracy at reasonable pace, with genuine curiosity about why a method works, points to Higher Level Analysis and Approaches. A good result in Additional Mathematics 0606 is the strongest available signal. Then check whether any target degree specifies Analysis and Approaches by name, because some do and requirements change.

Can a tutor give feedback on an Internal Assessment draft?+

Yes, and that is the legitimate centre of the work. A tutor explains what each criterion rewards, asks questions about the method, points out where a conclusion exceeds the data, and responds in writing to the student's own draft. What a tutor cannot do is write a section, rewrite prose, supply data or edit it to completion, and nobody at IB Gram will. Submitted work has to be the student's own. A provider offering completed assessments is selling an academic-honesty risk that falls on the student.

Our school changed exam board between year groups. What do we check?+

The statement of entry, for every subject, and then the code for each. Paper structures, mark-scheme language and the correct past material all follow from the board, so a change between cohorts invalidates an older sibling's resources entirely. For Diploma subjects, also confirm the current subject guide version, because specifications are revised and material written for a previous version teaches an outdated structure. Five minutes of checking at the start prevents a term of practice against the wrong specification.

Is Theory of Knowledge coachable at all?+

Within clear limits, yes. The essay responds to a prescribed title and is assessed against published criteria, and the commonest failure is writing about knowledge in general instead of answering the title in front of them. The teachable skill is constructing one argument that a counter-position could genuinely challenge, then testing it with examples that do specific work rather than decorate the prose. A tutor discusses the title, questions the argument and responds to drafts. Nobody writes any part of it, including sample paragraphs.

Why is English harder to transition than the sciences?+

Because the discipline changes rather than the difficulty. First Language English 0500 rewards accurate reading and fluent, structured writing, so a student who writes well does well. The Diploma's language courses reward argument about how texts operate on readers, across literary and non-literary material, with an oral component recorded in a school window. The student most at risk is the one who succeeded at IGCSE through fluency, because fluency alone lands mid-band. The shift takes a term of fortnightly work, not a fortnight of intensive work.

Can a tutor in Ras Al Khaimah realistically cover a specific syllabus code?+

Locally, often not, and the reason is the size of the pool rather than anything about the tutors. The emirate has a comparatively small private-school sector, so each specification at each level is taught in a handful of settings, and the few experienced teachers are mostly committed in the evenings. Working over live video widens the choice to everyone who teaches that exact code properly. IB Gram does not place tutors at UAE addresses; in-person visiting is a service we run only in India.

Send the codes, and the rest of the conversation gets specific

The single most useful thing a Mina Al Arab family can do before hiring anyone is read the statement of entry and write down the board, the code, the tier and the level for every subject in question. With that in hand the conversation stops being about chemistry in general and becomes about the course your child actually sits. Send it to us with one piece of marked work, take the free trial lesson, and we will tell you which specialist fits and what a short block should change. Lessons here are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.
