IGCSE Science Tutor in Al Quoz

An IGCSE science tutor in Al Quoz is usually needed for a specific reason: a student is carrying three sciences, or one combined award covering all three, and the revision keeps collapsing under its own breadth. The comparison worth running is not between districts but between the three ways a Dubai school can enter a student for science. This page sets all three out, with lessons delivered live online on Gulf Standard Time.

  • Separate, Coordinated and Combined science routes distinguished clearly
  • Practical skills assessment on paper treated as a taught writing skill
  • One revision sequence across three sciences rather than three plans
  • Live online delivery; no tutor visits a UAE address

IB & IGCSE in Al Quoz

IGCSE science is three different qualifications, not one subject

Parents in Al Quoz searching for an IGCSE science tutor are usually responding to a particular kind of trouble. The grades are fine in one science and poor in another, or they are mediocre across all three, and the student says the honest thing: there is too much of it. That is not a complaint about ability. It is an accurate description of a breadth problem, and breadth problems are solved by sequencing rather than by working harder.

The first thing to establish is which award your child is sitting, because Dubai schools use three different routes and families often do not know which one applies. Separate sciences means three full IGCSEs, in Biology, Chemistry and Physics, with three sets of papers. Cambridge Coordinated Sciences, 0654, gives two awards covering all three sciences. Cambridge Combined Science, 0653, gives one. The content depth, the number of papers and the post-16 doors differ in each case.

The second thing is how practical work is assessed, which surprises families coming from systems with laboratory examinations. In these qualifications practical skills are examined on paper. A student has to describe a method precisely enough for a stranger to repeat it, identify variables, read apparatus correctly and evaluate a procedure, all in writing. That is a trainable writing skill rather than a laboratory one, and it is routinely the weakest paper in the set.

The third is sequencing. Three sciences, or one award covering three, cannot be revised simultaneously in the eight weeks before a series. Students who try end up with uneven coverage and a predictable gap in whichever science was taught first and revised last. A deliberate rotation, with timed papers in each science at planned intervals, is worth more than any amount of additional study time applied without a plan.

Al Quoz itself contributes one practical constraint worth planning around. The district holds its housing in Al Quoz 1, 2 and 3 between Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road, with the rest given to warehouses, workshops, showrooms and the Alserkal Avenue arts spaces, and children travel outwards to school in several directions. A weekday session realistically starts between 5pm and 5.30pm rather than the 4.30pm that districts with schools inside them manage, which in a three-science household usually means one slot has to sit at the weekend.

The premise, stated plainly: IB Gram delivers one-to-one IGCSE science tuition into Al Quoz homes as live online video sessions on Gulf Standard Time, with working and diagrams shared and annotated on screen. We do not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; in-person home visits are a service we run in India only. For a household running three sciences that is useful in a specific way, because three different specialists can take three different evenings without three cars crossing Al Khail Road.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Four routes cover how Al Quoz children sit IGCSE science. Which one applies changes the paper count, the content depth and what is possible at 16, so it is the first thing to confirm.

SEPARATEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Separate sciences: Biology, Chemistry, Physics

Three full IGCSEs with three sets of papers, usually Cambridge 0610, 0620 and 0625 or Pearson Edexcel 4BI1, 4CH1 and 4PH1. The deepest content and the widest post-16 options, at the cost of three subjects' worth of examination load in a timetable that also carries mathematics, English and the UAE mandatory subjects.

This is the standard route in most of the British-curriculum schools around Al Quoz for stronger science cohorts. The practical consequence for families is scheduling: three sciences need a rotation, not three simultaneous revision plans, and that rotation has to be designed before the final term rather than improvised during it.

0654Ages 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge Coordinated Sciences

Two IGCSE awards covering biology, chemistry and physics content in less depth than the separates. Tiered Core and Extended. It suits a student who needs science credit and timetable space, and it keeps more options open at 16 than Combined Science does, though fewer than the separates.

Coordinated is often chosen late, when a school reorganises a cohort after Year 10 assessments. Families should ask explicitly what changes: the papers change, the past papers used for revision change, and some post-16 science routes may need discussing with the school before the entry is confirmed.

0653Ages 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge Combined Science

A single IGCSE award covering all three sciences at the lowest depth of the three routes, tiered Core and Extended. It is the right entry for a student whose strengths lie elsewhere and who needs a science grade rather than a science pathway, and it is a poor entry for a student intending A Level or Higher Level IB sciences.

The important conversation is about what happens at 16. A Combined Science award does not position a student for A Level Biology, Chemistry or Physics, or for the equivalent IB Higher Level courses. Raise that with the school before the entry is confirmed rather than in Year 12.

POST-16Ages 16-19 · Years 12-13

What the science route decides next

Most British-curriculum schools in Dubai run IGCSE to 16 then offer A Level, the IB Diploma or both. Science entries at 16 constrain what is available: depth of prior study matters for A Level sciences and for IB Higher Level sciences, and a shallower award can close a route regardless of the grade achieved.

Several schools in this part of Dubai offer both post-16 pathways, which makes the Year 10 science route decision more consequential here than in a single-pathway school. It is worth one conversation with the head of science before the entry deadline rather than an expensive discovery later.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Science support in Al Quoz is organised by where the marks go. Below are the areas across the three sciences that most often need work, each with the error that recurs in marked scripts.

Biology: transport and exchange

Core and Extended

Diffusion, osmosis, circulation and gas exchange. Marks go on explanations that describe a structure without linking it to the function the question asked about, which is the single most common biology failure across both boards.

Biology: inheritance and variation

Core and Extended

Genetic crosses, variation and selection. Students lose marks by producing a correct Punnett square without stating the ratio or the probability the question requested, and by using the words gene and allele interchangeably in written answers.

Chemistry: moles and stoichiometry

Extended weighted

The arithmetic underneath most of the chemistry marks. Errors are almost never conceptual: a ratio inverted, a limiting reagent ignored, or units dropped partway through a multi-step calculation that was otherwise sound.

Chemistry: rates, energetics and equilibrium

Core and Extended

Collision theory, exothermic and endothermic changes and reversible reactions. The characteristic error is predicting correctly and then explaining the prediction by restating it, instead of by reference to the change that caused it.

Chemistry: organic and analysis

Extended weighted

Homologous series, basic reactions and identification tests. Answers that name a correct product without the balanced equation, or a correct test without its observation, score nothing in most schemes even when the chemistry was understood.

Physics: electricity and circuits

Core and Extended

The topic Al Quoz students name most often. The difficulty is reasoning rather than recall: saying what happens to current and potential difference when one component changes requires holding the whole circuit in mind, and no formula substitutes for that.

Physics: waves and energy

Core and Extended

Reflection, refraction, the electromagnetic spectrum and energy transfer. Diagrams are marked on specified features, so a qualitatively correct ray diagram without the labelled angles or normal line loses most of its marks.

Practical skills on paper

All routes

Describing a method reproducibly, identifying independent, dependent and control variables, reading apparatus and evaluating a procedure. Reliably the weakest paper in the set, and the most improvable, because it is a writing skill with a finite set of conventions.

Command terms across the sciences

All routes

Describe, explain, suggest, compare and evaluate each demand a different response shape, and a correct fact in the wrong shape earns nothing. Because the conventions are shared across all three sciences, fixing this once pays three times over.

Data handling and graphs

All routes

Tables, graph plotting, line of best fit, gradients and conclusions supported by the data. Shared across the sciences, frequently taught in a hurry in each one separately, and therefore the most efficient single block of work available.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three patterns for a three-science problem. All are live one-to-one video sessions with shared annotation, and none involves a tutor travelling to a UAE address.

Shared-skills block across all three sciences

Four to six sessions on the things common to biology, chemistry and physics: command terms, practical method writing, variables, graph work and data conclusions. The most efficient science spending available, because fixing a convention once pays in all three subjects and in every paper.

  • Command terms separated and practised against scheme wording
  • Method writing drilled until a stranger could repeat the procedure
  • Graph and data conventions standardised across the sciences
  • One tutor, one block, improvement visible in three subjects

Single-science repair

Three to five sessions on one identified topic in one science, chosen from marked scripts. Electricity in physics, moles in chemistry and inheritance in biology are the usual candidates. Targeted, finite, and cheaper than a term of general science support that aims at everything.

  • Topic chosen from marked papers rather than from impression
  • Practice drawn from the correct board, tier and award only
  • Error log kept so the fix can be verified on a timed paper
  • Ends when the topic stops appearing in the log

Pre-series rotation across three sciences

A planned rotation in the weeks before the June or November series, with timed papers in each science at set intervals rather than all three revised at once. Designed to prevent the standard failure, which is thorough coverage of two sciences and a gap in the third.

  • A written rotation agreed at the start, covering all three
  • Timed paper in each science at planned intervals
  • Weakest science given the first and the last slot
  • Ends at a stated review point before the series

IB and IGCSE tutors available to students in Al Quoz

Al Quoz families are matched with science tutors who first establish which award your child is entered for, because Combined, Coordinated and separate sciences are three different qualifications with different papers. After that, the work is sequencing: three sciences cannot all be revised at once and pretending otherwise is why students run out of time.

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Quoz

01

What an IGCSE science tutor in Al Quoz must confirm first

  • Award confirmed: separate sciences, Coordinated 0654 or Combined 0653
  • Board and tier confirmed per science, because departments choose independently
  • Marked scripts from two different sciences read before planning
  • Live online delivery with shared annotation; no tutor at a UAE address

An IGCSE science tutor in Al Quoz means one-to-one science teaching at home on a weekday evening. IB Gram delivers that as a live online session into Al Quoz homes on Gulf Standard Time, with diagrams and working shared and annotated on screen. No tutor is sent to a UAE address, because in-person home visits are a service we run only in India.

Three things have to be established before any teaching is useful, and the first is the award. Separate sciences, Cambridge Coordinated Sciences 0654 and Cambridge Combined Science 0653 are three different qualifications with different papers and different content depth. A tutor practising separate-science past papers with a Combined Science candidate is teaching material that will not appear, which wastes the block and damages confidence at the same time.

The second is the board and the tier. Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel set different papers, assess practical skills differently and use different tier vocabulary. Departments choose independently, so a single student can sit Cambridge for one science and Edexcel for another. The code is printed on the school's assessment paperwork and the subject teacher will confirm it in a line.

The third is which of the three sciences is actually the problem, and the answer is frequently none of them individually. A student losing marks on command terms or on practical method writing loses them in all three subjects, which looks like general science weakness and is one fixable convention. Reading two marked scripts from different sciences usually makes that obvious within minutes, and it changes the plan from three blocks to one.

02

Separate sciences, Coordinated and Combined compared

This comparison is absent from every competitor page researched for this market, which is surprising, because it is the decision that most shapes a Dubai student's science outcome. The three routes differ in how many qualifications are awarded, how deep the content goes, how many papers are sat and what remains possible at 16.

The post-16 column is the one families should read first and usually read last. A Combined Science award does not position a student for A Level Biology, Chemistry or Physics, or for the equivalent IB Higher Level courses, regardless of the grade achieved. Coordinated Sciences sits in between and should be discussed explicitly with the school rather than assumed either way. Separate sciences keep everything open at the cost of the heaviest examination load.

The load question is real and should not be dismissed. Three sciences in a timetable that also carries mathematics, English, the UAE mandatory subjects of Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies, and two or three options, is a lot of examined content for a fifteen-year-old. A student doing three sciences badly has worse options at 16 than a student doing Coordinated Sciences well, so the honest conversation is about capacity rather than ambition.

Whatever the route, the practice set must match it exactly. This is the most common avoidable error in science tutoring in Dubai: a well-meaning tutor working from separate-science papers with a Coordinated candidate, or from Extended papers with a Core entry. Confirm the award, the board and the tier before the first session, and ask the tutor to state which they are using.

Practical skills examined on paper

Families arriving from systems with laboratory examinations are frequently surprised by this, and the surprise costs marks. In these qualifications practical skills are assessed in writing. The student describes a method, identifies variables, reads apparatus from a diagram, processes data and evaluates a procedure, all on paper, with no equipment in front of them.

That makes it a writing skill with a finite set of conventions, which is good news, because finite skills can be taught to completion. The method must be reproducible: a stranger reading it should be able to repeat the experiment without asking a question. Variables must be named as independent, dependent and controlled, not merely mentioned. Readings must be given to the precision the apparatus supports. Evaluation must identify a specific weakness in this procedure rather than a generic limitation that would apply to any experiment.

It is reliably the weakest paper in the set, for a structural reason rather than through anyone's fault: it is the paper schools have least time to practise, because practising it properly means marking extended written answers rather than ticking right answers. Students therefore meet it in a mock, score poorly, and conclude they are weak at science.

Four sessions usually changes it substantially, and the gain applies across all three sciences at once because the conventions are shared. That makes it, along with command terms, the highest-return science work available to an Al Quoz family, and it requires no new content at all.

04

Sequencing three sciences in the weeks before a series

This is where most science revision fails, and it fails for an arithmetic reason rather than a motivational one. Three sciences cannot be revised simultaneously in eight weeks. A student who tries covers everything thinly, and the thinnest coverage lands on whichever science was taught first and therefore feels most distant.

A rotation fixes it, and the rotation has to be written down. The principle is simple: the weakest science gets the first slot and the last slot, each science gets a timed paper at planned intervals, and no science goes more than two weeks without contact. Writing it down matters because an unwritten plan silently becomes a plan to revise whichever subject feels most frightening this week, which is always the same subject.

The table below is a workable eight-week shape for a three-science student. Adapt it to your own school's mock window and entry dates, which the exams officer holds. For Cambridge, a candidate in Dubai sits the June series with November as the resit route, since the February and March series is offered to India only. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs May and June, and November, and both boards revise provisional timetables, so use the official live document.

One more rule, and it is the one students resist. The timed paper comes before the revision of that topic, not after. A paper taken cold tells you what to revise; a paper taken after revision tells you that you revised. The first is information and the second is reassurance, and only one of them changes a grade.

Three sciences, one budget

A household carrying three sciences can turn a reasonable hourly rate into an unreasonable monthly total very quickly, simply by buying one weekly session in each subject without asking whether that is what the problem needs. So this section compares approaches on monthly cost rather than on hourly rate.

The market, attributed and dated October 2026. A qualified subject tutor online runs roughly AED 150 to 300 per hour, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150. Specialists run AED 200 to 450 and above, TutorChase at AED 270. Budget online provision starts at Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52 and EdFlik from AED 45 to 65. In-home visits run AED 180 to 500 including travel per Bestimate's 2026 Dubai cost table. Bestimate's monthly estimates for one weekly hour run roughly AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 mid-range and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist examination-year work. None of these is an IB Gram price list; ours is set after the free trial.

Now the comparison. Three weekly sessions, one per science, is the most expensive approach and frequently not the most effective, because in many cases the actual deficit is a shared convention rather than three separate content gaps. A single shared-skills block of four to six sessions costs roughly a third as much and improves all three subjects at once. Where one science genuinely needs content work, a targeted single-science block is added on top of that rather than instead of it.

For household context, KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that there would be no increase in Dubai private school fees for the 2026-27 academic year. Tutoring is the variable line in an education budget, and in a three-science year it is the line most likely to drift, which is why every block on this page has a stated end.

The science grade, equivalency and what comes at 16

  • Combined Science counts as one subject in the five; separate sciences count as three
  • Five GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than grade E or grade 3, excluding Arabic and Islamic education
  • American track requires SAT Math 450 or above before applying
  • Verify on moe.gov.ae; equivalency is not a service IB Gram provides

Science entries do two separate jobs in the UAE, and families usually meet them months apart. The first is post-16 progression, already covered: depth of prior study decides what A Level and IB Higher Level sciences are available, and a shallower award closes routes regardless of the grade. The second is Ministry of Education equivalency, which decides what a UAE university or employer will accept.

The published British-track rule requires five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade of no less than E or grade 3, plus either one accredited subject at Advanced Level at no less than grade E or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects. Note what this means for science routes: a Combined Science award is one subject in that count, while separate sciences are three, which can matter for a student whose option choices are otherwise thin.

One competitor page currently ranking in this market tells UAE parents six IGCSE subjects are required. That is wrong, and it is the kind of error a family acts on by making a child sit an extra subject they did not need. The American track runs on test scores instead, with SAT Math 450 or above required before applying and English proficiency satisfied by IELTS academic 5, TOEFL iBT 61 or SAT reading and writing 450. For the IB, no points threshold appears in the source we read, so none is published here.

Two cautions as always. IB Gram does not perform, submit or expedite equivalency and tutoring is not required for it; it is a process families complete through the official channel. And requirements change, so verify the current position on moe.gov.ae or with the emirate's attestation authority before planning a subject list around any figure.

07

Starting from Al Quoz, and the limits we state

  • Send the award, board and tier per science, school, and scripts from two sciences
  • Free trial lesson used to establish whether the deficit is shared or specific
  • Blocks with stated lengths and a verification paper at the end
  • No grade promises, no claimed approvals, no invented statistics

Send five things: the award, the board and tier for each science, the school, and the last two marked scripts from two different sciences. That last detail matters, because comparing scripts across subjects is what reveals whether the deficit is shared or specific, and that single piece of information changes the plan from three blocks to one.

What will not be claimed. No grade promise, because no honest provider can make one. No suggestion that tutoring is required for equivalency, admission or progression, which would be a false claim about a regulatory process. No regulator or board approval: IB Gram holds no permit, accreditation, licence or partnership from KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, Cambridge or Pearson, and operates no UAE office or centre. No satisfaction statistics, because a figure without its sample, date and method is decoration.

A disclosed limit: in the weeks before a series, early-evening slots are genuinely constrained, and a household wanting three different science specialists on three consecutive evenings is asking a lot of a peak window. When it cannot be done you are told, offered a workable alternative shape, and given a realistic view of when the slots open. Nobody general is substituted for a specialist you asked for.

Finally, two facts worth asking of any provider. Individuals offering private tuition in the UAE need the MoHRE private tuition work permit introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, granted free of charge for two years, with those operating without one subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published, so no amount is quoted. And board past papers, mark schemes and syllabus documents are Cambridge's and Pearson's copyright, so we cite and link them rather than supplying them as downloads.

Where we tutor

Al Quoz and the districts parents compare it with

What differs between these districts is school supply and the earliest workable session hour. For a household running three sciences, the hour matters more than usual.

Al Quoz 1, 2 and 3

Housing inside a largely industrial district with school runs heading out in several directions. Weekday sessions realistically start at 5pm to 5.30pm, so a three-science rotation usually needs one weekend slot.

Al Barsha and Al Barsha South

Several schools inside the district and a 4.30pm start, which makes a three-evening science rotation feasible entirely on weekdays. That is the real advantage of the district, and it is a scheduling one.

Al Safa and Jumeirah

Established villa districts with tuition centres in reach. Centre group classes are a genuine option here for broad coverage, and poor value where the problem is one paper in one science.

Business Bay

Towers with no school in the district and a long run both ways, pushing the practical start to about 6pm. Three-science households here tend to put two sessions at the weekend.

Al Jaddaf and Culture Village

Short school runs on the creek side. Science demand here is mixed between Coordinated and separate routes, which is worth confirming before any practice set is built.

Meydan and Nad Al Sheba

Villa communities with nearby schools and a 4.30pm to 5pm start, so the rotation fits more easily across weekday evenings in the eight weeks before a series.

Al Quoz Industrial 1 to 4

Warehouses, workshops, showrooms and arts spaces rather than housing, which is why a proximity search for a science tutor in Al Quoz returns a list shaped by land use rather than by families.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Al Quoz

Al Quoz, Al Safa and Al Barsha

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Confirm the award before anything else

Separate sciences, Coordinated 0654 and Combined 0653 are three different qualifications with different papers and depths. Practising the wrong one wastes the block and dents confidence at the same time, and the school's assessment paperwork states which applies.

  2. 02

Send scripts from two different sciences

This is the step that saves the most money. If the same error appears in biology and in physics, the deficit is a shared convention and one block fixes three subjects. If the errors are unrelated, you have one topic problem in one science, which is also short.

  3. 03

Free trial lesson as a diagnosis

One live session with shared annotation before any payment. By the end you should know whether you are buying a shared-skills block, a single-science repair or both, and roughly how many sessions each needs.

  4. 04

    Write the rotation down

Three sciences need a written rotation with timed papers at planned intervals, because an unwritten plan quietly becomes a plan to revise whichever subject feels most alarming this week. Weakest science first and last; nothing left untouched for more than two weeks.

  5. 05

Verify with a timed paper, then stop

Each block ends with a paper under examination conditions in the subject worked on. If the logged error has gone, stopping is the right recommendation. A three-science household is where open-ended arrangements become expensive fastest.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The award is established first

Separate sciences, Coordinated 0654 and Combined 0653 differ in depth, papers and post-16 position. No competitor page researched for this market compares them, and practising the wrong route's papers is the most common avoidable error in Dubai science tutoring.

Shared deficits found before separate ones

Command terms, practical method writing and graph conventions are shared across biology, chemistry and physics. Fixing one convention improves three subjects, which is why scripts from two different sciences are worth more than two scripts from one.

The practical paper taken seriously

Practical skills are examined in writing, with a finite set of conventions: reproducible method, classified variables, justified precision, specific evaluation. It is reliably the weakest paper in the set and among the most improvable.

Rotation instead of simultaneous revision

Three sciences cannot be revised at once in eight weeks, and the gap always lands on whichever was taught first. A written rotation with cold timed papers at intervals prevents the predictable failure.

Costs compared monthly, with sources

Indicative monthly AED figures from Bestimate's 2026 estimates and providers' published rates, dated October 2026, set against what each approach achieves rather than against an unnamed competitor.

The equivalency arithmetic stated correctly

Five GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than E or grade 3 excluding Arabic and Islamic education, with Combined Science counting as one subject and separate sciences as three. A ranking competitor publishes six subjects, which is wrong.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Quoz: your questions answered

What is the difference between Combined, Coordinated and separate sciences?+

They are three different qualifications. Separate sciences give three full IGCSEs with three paper sets and the deepest content. Cambridge Coordinated Sciences 0654 gives two awards covering all three sciences at intermediate depth. Cambridge Combined Science 0653 gives a single award at the shallowest depth. The post-16 consequence is the important part: a Combined award does not position a student for A Level or IB Higher Level sciences regardless of the grade, and Coordinated should be discussed explicitly with the school.

Will a science tutor come to our Al Quoz home?+

Not through IB Gram. We teach IGCSE science one-to-one into Al Quoz homes over live video on Gulf Standard Time, with diagrams and working annotated on a shared screen, and we send no tutors to UAE addresses; in-person home visits are an India-only service for us. For a household running three sciences this helps in a specific way: three specialists can take three evenings without three cars crossing Al Khail Road at five o'clock.

Our child has never sat a lab exam. What does the practical paper test?+

Practical skills in these qualifications are examined on paper, not in a laboratory session, so online tutoring and school laboratory work serve different purposes. The paper asks the student to describe a method reproducibly, classify independent, dependent and controlled variables, read apparatus to the correct precision, process data and evaluate a specific weakness in the procedure. That is a writing skill with finite conventions, and it is both the weakest paper in most sets and among the most improvable.

My child is weak across all three sciences. Do we need three tutors?+

Probably not, and finding out is free. Send marked scripts from two different sciences. If the same error appears in both, such as describing where the question said explain, or a method that assumes the reader was present, the deficit is a shared convention and one block of four to six sessions improves all three subjects. If the errors are unrelated, you have one topic problem in one science, which is a three to five session fix. Either answer is cheaper than three weekly sessions.

How should three sciences be revised in the final eight weeks?+

On a written rotation, never simultaneously. The weakest science takes the first slot and the last, each science gets a timed paper at planned intervals, and nothing goes more than two weeks without contact. Write it down, because an unwritten plan becomes a plan to revise whichever subject feels most alarming this week, which is always the same one. And take the timed paper before revising that topic, not after: a cold paper is information, a revised one is reassurance.

Which science topic causes the most trouble in Dubai schools?+

Electricity and circuits in physics, consistently. The difficulty is reasoning rather than recall: saying what happens to current and potential difference when one component changes requires holding the whole circuit in mind, and a student who has memorised every relationship can still fail that question. Chemistry's equivalent is moles and stoichiometry, where errors are almost always a ratio inverted or a limiting reagent ignored. Biology's is explanation that describes a structure without linking it to function.

Is Combined Science a problem for a child who might want medicine?+

Yes, and it is a conversation to have before the entry is confirmed rather than in Year 12. A Combined Science award does not position a student for A Level Biology or Chemistry, or for the equivalent IB Higher Level courses, and medical and related applications commonly expect chemistry at Higher Level or A Level alongside biology. If that pathway is a genuine possibility, the route conversation belongs with the head of science now, with the honest capacity question included.

Does the exam board matter for IGCSE sciences?+

It matters a great deal in Year 11. Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel set different papers, weight topics differently, use different tier vocabulary and frame practical skills assessment differently, even where the content overlaps heavily. Departments choose independently, so a single student can sit Cambridge for one science and Edexcel for another. Check the code per science on the school's assessment paperwork, and ask any prospective tutor which codes they are building practice from.

What does science tutoring cost monthly for a three-science student?+

It depends on whether the deficit is shared or specific, which is why diagnosis is the first step. A shared-skills block of four to six sessions over six weeks runs roughly AED 600 to 1,200 monthly at mid-market rates. A single-science targeted block of three to five sessions is similar. Both together, in an examination year, runs AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more per Bestimate's 2026 estimates. Three separate weekly sessions is the most expensive option and often not the most effective.

Does my child really need to classify variables explicitly?+

Yes, and the marks say so. Mentioning a variable is not the same as naming it independent, dependent or controlled, and schemes frequently award the mark only for the classification. The same applies to evaluation: a generic statement about human error earns nothing, while naming a specific weakness in this procedure and what it did to the result earns the mark. These are conventions rather than insights, and a student can learn all of them in four sessions.

Can we start science support partway through Year 11?+

Yes, and most families do, but the work has to be targeted rather than broad. Pick the shared conventions first, because they pay across three subjects immediately, then one topic per science from the marked scripts. What a mid-year start cannot do is cover three sciences comprehensively, so the honest plan secures the achievable grades rather than chasing complete coverage. The rotation table on this page is the shape to adapt to whatever weeks remain.

How many IGCSE subjects count towards UAE equivalency if we take Combined Science?+

Combined Science is a single award and therefore one subject in the count, while separate sciences give three. The published British-track rule requires five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade of no less than E or grade 3, excluding Arabic and Islamic education, plus one A Level at grade E or two AS Levels at the same grade. That arithmetic matters for a student whose option choices are otherwise thin, and it should be verified on moe.gov.ae before it is planned around.

Is the November series available if June goes badly in a science?+

Yes. Both Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel run a November series, and for a candidate sitting in Dubai that is the resit route; the February and March series is offered to India only. A November attempt is easier to plan than a first attempt, because you have the actual script and grade and can identify the two or three topics that cost it. Entry is arranged by the school's exams officer and is worth discussing as soon as results arrive.

Should the weakest science get all the attention?+

It should get the most, not all of it. Put the weakest science in the first and last slots of the rotation and give it the repeat contact, but do not let either of the others go more than two weeks without a session or a timed paper, because the gap that appears in a results sheet is usually in the subject that felt safe. The arithmetic of three sciences is unforgiving: attention withdrawn entirely from one is a grade withdrawn from one.

Confirm the award, then find the shared deficit

IGCSE science goes wrong for structural reasons more often than for reasons of ability: the wrong award assumed, the practical paper never practised, three sciences revised at once in eight weeks. Each has a specific fix and none of them is expensive. Send the award, the board and tier for each science, the school, and marked scripts from two different sciences, and take the free trial lesson. If the same error appears in both scripts, one block improves three subjects. Lessons run live online into your Al Quoz home on Gulf Standard Time.
