IGCSE Home Tutors in Dubai

Families search for IGCSE home tutors in Dubai and nearly always want the same thing: the grade on the next paper to move. This page is built around the papers themselves — Cambridge 0580 and 0625 against Pearson Edexcel 4MA1 and 4PH1, Core against Extended, and the specific places Dubai candidates drop marks. IB Gram teaches it one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time; we do not send tutors to UAE addresses.

What IGCSE home tutors in Dubai are actually hired to fix

Almost every enquiry that reaches this page carries the same two sentences: my child is in Year 10 or Year 11 at a Dubai British-curriculum school, and the last paper came back lower than expected. The request is phrased as a search for IGCSE home tutors in Dubai. The underlying problem is nearly always narrower than the phrasing suggests — a tier chosen badly, a paper whose structure nobody explained, or four or five recurring mark-loss patterns that a marked script would show in twenty minutes. That is what this page is organised around, because fixing a named pattern is cheaper and faster than buying general tuition by the term.

The first thing worth establishing is which qualification your child is actually sitting, because Dubai parents routinely do not know. IGCSE is not one exam. Cambridge International runs its own syllabuses with four-digit codes — Mathematics 0580, Physics 0625, Chemistry 0620, Biology 0610, English as a First Language 0500 — and sits them in June and November series. Pearson Edexcel runs separate International GCSE specifications with different codes, 4MA1 for Mathematics A, 4PH1 for Physics, 4CH1 for Chemistry, 4BI1 for Biology, 4EA1 for English Language A, available in May/June and November. The papers, the tiering and the practical assessment differ between the two. A tutor who has not asked which board your school entered your child for has not started work.

The second thing is the tier, which caps the grade before any revision begins. Cambridge separates Core and Extended, with Core capped at grade C and Extended reaching A*. Pearson Edexcel Mathematics A is tiered as Foundation and Higher, with Foundation reaching grade 5 and Higher reaching 9. A Dubai student sitting the wrong tier is the single most common structural mistake we see, in both directions: a capable candidate held at Core who can never score above a C, and a fragile candidate pushed to Extended who loses marks across the whole paper rather than securing the accessible ones. This is a conversation to have with the school in Year 10, not in March of Year 11.

The third is where marks actually go. Across Dubai scripts the recurring losses are specific and dull: method marks lost to unshown working in 0580 and 4MA1; command terms misread, so a describe answer is given where explain was asked; units and significant figures dropped in 0625 and 4PH1; graph work done without reading the axis scale; and in the sciences, the practical component — Cambridge Paper 5 or Paper 6, worth 20 per cent of 0625 — treated as unteachable because there is no laboratory at home. Each of those is a trainable habit rather than a knowledge gap, and each one is worth more marks than another pass through the textbook.

On delivery, the honest position, stated before anything else: IB Gram does not run home visits in Dubai. Home visits are a service we offer only in India. Dubai families work with a tutor one-to-one over live video, in Gulf Standard Time, with the script or the past paper shared on screen so the marking happens in front of the student. For an exam-year subject that is usually an advantage rather than a compromise, because the tutor is selected for having taught 0580 Extended or 4PH1 rather than for living within a twenty-minute drive of your community.

At a glance

  • Establish the board and code first: 0580 and 4MA1 are different exams
  • Core caps at C and Extended reaches A*; Foundation caps at 5 and Higher reaches 9
  • Cambridge sciences carry a 20 per cent practical component; Edexcel assesses practicals in the written papers
  • Most Dubai mark loss is method, command terms, units and graph reading
  • Lessons are delivered one-to-one online in Gulf Standard Time, starting with a marked past paper
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Dubai British-curriculum schools run a predictable ladder, and knowing where your child sits on it decides what tutoring is for. The four bands below cover the two years before IGCSE, the IGCSE years themselves, and the two post-16 routes a Dubai cohort splits into.

KS3Ages 11-14 · Years 7-9

Lower Secondary and Checkpoint

The three years before IGCSE, where Dubai schools decide setting and, in effect, start deciding tier. Cambridge runs Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October, and many Dubai schools use the results to place students in Year 10 sets. Tutoring here is cheap, unglamorous and disproportionately effective: algebraic fluency, fraction and ratio security, and the habit of showing working are the three things that decide whether Extended is open two years later.

Dubai schools vary widely in when they commit a student to Core or Extended, with some deciding in Year 9 and others leaving it until the entry deadline in Year 11. Ask your school directly which year the decision is taken and what evidence it uses, because a Year 9 Checkpoint result is a thin basis for a grade ceiling that lasts into university applications.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

Two years, typically eight to ten subjects, and the first set of externally marked qualifications a Dubai student holds. Cambridge syllabuses are identified by four-digit codes and offer Core and Extended routes in many subjects; Pearson Edexcel International GCSE specifications use codes beginning 4 and tier only some subjects. Both boards publish subject-specific assessment structures that differ paper by paper, and tutoring that ignores the structure wastes most of its hours.

The UK curriculum accounts for 37 per cent of Dubai private-school enrolment, the largest single share across 227 schools and 17 curricula, which is why IGCSE provision in the emirate is deep and inconsistent at the same time. Two schools a few minutes apart may use different boards for the same subject, so a tutor matched by subject alone is a coin flip.

A LEVELAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

AS and A Level

The commonest post-IGCSE route in Dubai British-curriculum schools and the one IGCSE tier choice most directly constrains. Further Mathematics and Physics at A Level assume Extended or Higher-tier algebraic fluency, and a Core candidate arriving in Year 12 has a genuine content gap rather than a confidence gap. For UAE Ministry of Education equivalency on the British track, one accredited Advanced Level subject at a grade no lower than E, or two Advanced Subsidiary subjects at the same grade, is required alongside the IGCSE count.

Dubai students applying to UAE universities need their certificates equivalated by the Ministry of Education, and the British-track requirements are published: five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than grade E or grade 3, plus the A Level or AS requirement. Treat the process as the Ministry's, not a tutor's, and verify current wording on the official channel before relying on it.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme

The other post-16 route, taken by a smaller Dubai cohort and chosen more often by families already in an IB continuum school. The IGCSE-to-Diploma step is sharper than the IGCSE-to-A-Level step in two places: Mathematics, where Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level assumes a strong Extended or Higher-tier foundation, and the sciences, where the Internal Assessment demands independent experimental design that no IGCSE paper requires.

The International Baccalaureate accounts for 7 per cent of Dubai private-school enrolment, and Dubai's 2026-27 intake adds three new IB schools among seven new private schools creating 16,846 places. A Year 11 student considering the switch should look at the Mathematics route first, because that is the choice that is expensive to reverse in Year 12.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Each entry below names the board codes, the papers and the specific place Dubai candidates drop marks. These are the subjects that account for the overwhelming majority of IGCSE tutoring requests in the emirate, and the descriptions are written to be useful before you book anything.

Mathematics — Cambridge 0580 / Edexcel 4MA1

Core and Extended · Foundation and Higher

Two papers in each route, one non-calculator and one calculator, each carrying half the marks in 0580 and in 4MA1. Dubai mark loss concentrates in unshown method on multi-step questions, mishandled surds and indices, and bearings and vectors left blank. Working written down is worth marks even when the final answer is wrong.

Physics — Cambridge 0625 / Edexcel 4PH1

Core and Extended · untiered at Pearson

Cambridge Extended candidates sit Paper 2 at 30 per cent, Paper 4 at 50 per cent and a practical component at 20 per cent. Pearson assesses practical skills inside the written papers. Marks go on units, significant figures, prefix conversion, and explanations that describe what happens without naming the physics that causes it.

Chemistry — Cambridge 0620 / Edexcel 4CH1

Core and Extended · untiered at Pearson

Same three-component Cambridge structure as Physics. The recurring Dubai losses are mole calculations where the balanced equation was never checked, qualitative analysis tests recalled imprecisely, and organic mechanisms described in the wrong order. Six-mark extended responses need a structure, not more sentences.

Biology — Cambridge 0610 / Edexcel 4BI1

Core and Extended · untiered at Pearson

The subject where strong students most often plateau at a 6, because recall is good and command terms are read carelessly. Describe, explain, suggest and compare demand different answers, and a question asking for a comparison scores nothing for two separate descriptions. Data and graph questions carry more marks than students expect.

English as a First Language — Cambridge 0500 / Edexcel 4EA1

Untiered

Reading and directed writing, assessed in two papers. Dubai candidates lose reading marks by paraphrasing rather than analysing, and writing marks by producing fluent prose that ignores the audience, form and purpose set in the question. The fastest gains come from planning for three minutes before writing anything.

English as a Second Language — Cambridge 0510 and 0511

Untiered · speaking endorsed or counted

A different qualification from First Language English with a different grade profile, and Dubai families regularly do not know which one their child is entered for. Support focuses on exam technique for the reading and writing components and on precision rather than range in the summary task.

Literature in English — Cambridge 0475 / Edexcel 4ET1

Untiered · set texts vary by school

Marks depend almost entirely on using quotation to support a point about the writer's method rather than retelling the plot. Dubai centres choose different set texts, so tutoring must start from your school's actual texts. Unseen poetry is where the widest spread of marks appears.

Additional and Further Mathematics — Cambridge 0606 / Edexcel 4PM1

Untiered · taken alongside Mathematics

Taken by stronger Dubai sets as preparation for A Level Mathematics, and genuinely harder than the main syllabus. Calculus, trigonometric identities and series are the content that separates candidates, and most mark loss is algebraic slips carried through several lines rather than conceptual failure.

Business and Economics — Cambridge 0450 and 0455 / Edexcel 4BS1 and 4EC1

Untiered

Content-light and technique-heavy. Marks are lost by answering with definitions when the command term asked for analysis or evaluation, and by ignoring the case study material the question is built on. A structured evaluation paragraph is a teachable formula and worth several grades across a paper.

Computer Science and ICT — Cambridge 0478 and 0417

Untiered

Theory marks hinge on precise terminology, and the practical and pseudocode elements reward students who write out logic before coding anything. Trace tables and binary conversions are routinely dropped under time pressure despite being the most reliably scorable questions on the paper.

Geography and History — Cambridge 0460 and 0470

Untiered · coursework option at some centres

Both reward structure and source handling over volume. In Geography the case-study detail is what distinguishes a 6 from an 8; in History, source questions need provenance used explicitly rather than content summarised. Where a school runs the coursework option, the rules on what support is permitted are strict.

Arabic — Cambridge 0508 and 0544

First language and foreign language

Two very different syllabuses sat by two very different cohorts in Dubai schools, and KHDA requires the Arabic first-language and additional-language classes to be organised separately. Matching a tutor to the wrong one of those two is the commonest avoidable error in Arabic tutoring requests.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats cover nearly every IGCSE request from Dubai. All run one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time, and all begin the same way: a past paper the student has already sat, marked line by line, so the first teaching session starts at the real gap rather than at the start of the syllabus.

Marked-script diagnostic, then weekly single subject

The standard arrangement. The student sends a recent mock or past paper, the tutor marks it against the board's own mark scheme and names the four or five recurring loss patterns, and weekly sessions then work through them in order of marks available. Each session ends with a short timed question set, and the following session opens by marking it.

  • Board and syllabus code confirmed before the first session
  • Recurring loss patterns named in writing, not described vaguely
  • Timed question sets between sessions, marked at the next one
  • Progress tracked as marks recovered per paper section

Two-subject exam-term block

For Year 11 students in the two terms before a May/June or November series, usually Extended Maths plus one science. Sessions alternate subjects weekly, with full past papers sat under timed conditions every third week. The point is pacing and paper-sitting stamina as much as content, because most Dubai candidates lose more marks to timing than to gaps.

  • Alternating weekly subjects with a shared revision calendar
  • A full timed paper every third week, marked to the board scheme
  • Section-level mark tracking so revision time follows the marks
  • Explicit work on command terms and question-reading

Tier and transition audit

A short block for two situations: deciding Core against Extended or Foundation against Higher before an entry deadline, and auditing a student who has arrived in a Dubai IGCSE class from a different curriculum. Three or four sessions, a written content audit against the specific syllabus code, and a recommendation you can take to the school.

  • Topic-by-topic audit against the named syllabus code
  • Clear statement of the grade ceiling each tier imposes
  • Written recommendation for the school conversation
  • An honest answer where the recommendation is to change nothing

IB and IGCSE tutors available to students in Dubai

The tutors listed below teach to a named syllabus rather than to a subject. Each works from your child's own board and paper structure — Cambridge or Pearson Edexcel, Core or Extended, tiered or untiered — and starts by marking a past paper the student has already sat so the first session begins at the real gap.

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai

01

Core or Extended: the decision that sets the grade ceiling

A Cambridge IGCSE Core candidate cannot be awarded above a grade C, and an Extended candidate is assessed across the full A* to E range. Pearson Edexcel Mathematics A tiers the same way under different names, with Foundation reaching grade 5 and Higher reaching grade 9. That single structural fact decides more Dubai outcomes than any amount of revision, and it is the first thing a tutor should establish — before content, before technique, before a timetable.

The decision is harder than it looks because it runs in both directions. A capable student parked on Core will produce comfortable marks and a ceiling that closes off A Level Mathematics and most science routes; the papers feel easy and the damage is invisible until Year 12. A fragile student pushed onto Extended will meet questions beyond reach across the whole paper, lose the accessible marks to time pressure and panic, and often finish below what the Core route would have given. Neither error announces itself in a Year 10 report.

Three pieces of evidence settle it in practice. The first is a marked Extended past paper under timed conditions: not a prediction, an actual script, which shows whether the accessible marks are being collected. The second is algebraic fluency, because Extended questions assume manipulation the Core route can avoid. The third is what the student intends to study at sixteen, since Core closes doors that are expensive to reopen. A tier audit that ignores the third question is not an audit.

The table sets out the comparison the way a parent needs it. Note that tiering varies by subject and by board — Cambridge offers Core and Extended in many subjects but not all, and Pearson Edexcel tiers Mathematics A while running most sciences untiered — so the right question to your school is subject-specific rather than general. Entry decisions sit with the school and the final entry deadline, and a change after the deadline is not always possible.

Cambridge or Pearson Edexcel: the same subject, two different exams

Dubai schools choose boards subject by subject, and a single student can reasonably sit Cambridge Mathematics and Pearson Edexcel Physics in the same series. Parents are rarely told this explicitly, and tutors who do not ask will teach the wrong paper structure for a term. The difference is not cosmetic: the number of papers, their length, the weightings and the treatment of practical work all vary between the two boards for the same named subject.

The clearest divergence is in the sciences. Cambridge IGCSE Physics 0625, Chemistry 0620 and Biology 0610 each carry a separate practical component — Paper 5, the practical test, or Paper 6, the alternative to practical — worth 20 per cent of the qualification, with the theory papers at 30 and 50 per cent for Extended candidates. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE sciences assess practical skills within the written papers instead, with no separate practical paper. A student moving between schools mid-course can therefore gain or lose a whole component.

Mathematics diverges differently. Cambridge 0580 splits Core and Extended with two papers each, one non-calculator and one calculator, each carrying half the marks. Pearson Edexcel Mathematics A 4MA1 sits two papers of two hours, each worth half the qualification, tiered as Foundation and Higher. Pearson also runs Further Pure Mathematics 4PM1 and Cambridge runs Additional Mathematics 0606 as the stretch options, and the two are not interchangeable in content.

The practical consequence for a Dubai family is simple. Find the syllabus code on your child's exam entry statement or ask the examinations officer, then check the board's own published syllabus for that series — syllabuses are revised, and the series your child sits may differ from the version a tutor last taught. Nobody should be reproducing or supplying board syllabus documents, mark schemes or past papers; the correct move is to read them on cambridgeinternational.org or qualifications.pearson.com and teach from them.

Where Dubai IGCSE candidates actually lose marks

  • Refuse bare answers in session; method marks are recovered by habit, not by knowledge
  • Drill the five command terms until the answer shape is automatic
  • Check units, prefixes and significant figures as a final pass on every calculation
  • Read the axis scale aloud before touching a graph question
  • Practise abandoning a stuck question at a fixed time and returning to it

Mark loss at IGCSE is far more patterned than families expect. A marked script from a Dubai Year 11 mock usually shows the same four or five behaviours repeating across every section, and the total they cost is almost always larger than the total lost to genuine ignorance. This is the most useful section on the page, because every item in it is trainable in weeks rather than terms.

Unshown method is the biggest single loss in mathematics. Both 0580 and 4MA1 award method marks, and a student who works in their head and writes one line has forfeited them before the answer is even wrong. The habit is worth retraining explicitly, with the tutor refusing to accept bare answers in session. Command terms are the biggest loss in the sciences and in business subjects: describe, explain, suggest, compare and evaluate ask for structurally different answers, and a comparison answered as two descriptions scores close to nothing however accurate it is.

Then there are the quiet ones. Units and significant figures in 0625 and 4PH1, where a correct calculation presented wrongly loses the final mark. Prefix conversion — kilo, milli, micro — mishandled under time pressure. Graph questions where the axis scale was never read. Six-mark extended responses written as a stream of sentences rather than a structured sequence. And timing: a student who spends eighteen minutes on a six-mark question has lost the marks at the end of the paper, which are usually the easiest ones left.

The table below is the diagnostic we run on a first marked script. Each row is a loss pattern, the papers it shows up on, roughly what it costs across a full paper, and the specific drill that closes it. Figures in the cost column are typical ranges observed on scripts rather than a measured study, and they vary by subject and candidate — they are there to show the order of priority, which is the point.

Home tutoring in Dubai: the honest comparison

This page targets a phrase Dubai parents genuinely type, so the question deserves a straight answer rather than a redirect. In-home IGCSE tutoring in Dubai is a real and sizeable market. Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 rate table puts one-to-one visits at AED 180 to AED 350 an hour including travel, independent listings run from AED 200 to AED 500, and published monthly packages for four two-hour visits sit at AED 1,599 to AED 1,799. Families choose it because it removes the organisational load, and that is a legitimate reason.

What it costs beyond the rate is the tutor pool. A family in Dubai South or Mirdif choosing a visiting tutor is choosing from the IGCSE specialists willing to drive to Dubai South or Mirdif at 17:00 on a weekday, and the specialists most in demand — 0580 Extended, 4PH1, Additional Mathematics 0606 — are the ones least likely to be on that list. Travel is inside the price whether itemised or not, and a cancelled session is a wasted journey somebody pays for. In an exam year, the scarce resource is the right tutor, not the convenience.

IB Gram does not run home visits in Dubai; home visits are a service we offer only in India. Dubai families work one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time, with the script on screen and the marking visible as it happens. For IGCSE work this has one concrete advantage that in-home tutoring cannot match: the student's own past paper can be annotated live, mark by mark, against the board's published scheme, and both parties keep the annotated copy. It also means a Year 11 candidate in Al Furjan and one in Jumeirah draw on the same pool of syllabus specialists.

Two limitations worth stating. A student without a quiet room and a reliable connection will do better with someone in the room, and we will say so at the trial rather than afterwards. And no format compensates for a student who will not do the timed question set between sessions; that is the single strongest predictor of whether IGCSE tutoring moves a grade, in any delivery mode.

The IGCSE exam calendar, counted backwards

No competitor page in this market names a session, an entry deadline or a results date, which is remarkable, because the calendar is what makes tutoring urgent or not. Cambridge International runs IGCSE, O Level and International A Level examinations in a June series and a November series, with Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE examinations are available in May/June and November each year.

Entry deadlines sit months before the papers, and the only honest way to show that is with a series a Dubai student can actually sit. Take Pearson Edexcel International GCSE November 2026: the final timetable runs from late October to 19 November 2026, and results reach students in January, as the November 2025 series did on 22 January 2026. Count backwards from a first paper in late October and the entry window closes early in the autumn term, weeks before most Dubai centres have even run a mock. The Cambridge June series behaves the same way, with entries closing in the spring, roughly four months ahead of the papers; the exact date is printed on your centre's statement of entry rather than anywhere on this page. Ignore the February and March dates circulating on tutoring sites, because that sitting is one Cambridge offers in India only, and a tier change after your real deadline may not be available at all.

There is one Cambridge administrative detail that catches international centres and costs real candidates real exams. Every Cambridge centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones, and it is essential that you use the correct version of the timetable for your zone; Cambridge states that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an examination after using the wrong zone timetable. If you are holding a printed timetable found online, check it is the zone version your school sits.

For Pearson, the published pattern is equally usable: the November 2026 International GCSE final timetable runs from late October to 19 November 2026, June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Pearson also publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, including the International GCSE November series ahead, so any plan should work from the live official timetable rather than a restated date. We publish no IB session or results dates anywhere on this site that have not been confirmed against the IB directly.

What IGCSE grades have to show for UAE Ministry of Education equivalency

A Dubai family planning on a UAE university needs the Ministry of Education equivalency rules in mind from Year 10, because the requirement is about which subjects were taken as much as how well they went. Four of the ten query clusters we researched contain no mention of equivalency at all, and one ranking competitor publishes a subject count that does not match the published rule. This is one of the few places where a tutoring page can simply be more accurate than the pages above it.

On the British track, students must pass five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, and must submit proof of one accredited subject at Advanced Level with a grade no lower than E, or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level with the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects. That last clause is the one most often got wrong, and it changes which IGCSE options a student should keep.

For comparison, the American track requires English proficiency evidenced by a score of 5 in the IELTS academic test, 61 in the TOEFL iBT, or 450 in the reading and writing section of the SAT, and mathematics evidenced by at least 450 in the SAT Mathematics test before applying. For the International Baccalaureate, no points threshold has been verified on the Ministry's own pages, so no figure is published here — check moe.gov.ae or the emirate attestation authority directly rather than relying on any tutoring site, including this one.

Two boundaries matter. Equivalency is a Ministry process: IB Gram does not perform it, submit it or influence its outcome, and nobody should tell you otherwise. And tutoring is not a requirement for equivalency, university admission or school progression — anyone framing it that way is manufacturing urgency about a regulatory process. What tutoring can legitimately do is protect the five-subject count by stopping a borderline grade from falling below the threshold.

Coursework, feedback and the line a tutor must not cross

Several Cambridge IGCSE subjects offer a coursework option that Dubai centres may or may not run — Geography, History, English and others — and where a school does run it, the rules on permitted support are strict and the consequences of breaching them fall on the student. It is worth knowing exactly where the boundary sits before any tutoring is arranged, because the commercial pressure in this market runs the other way.

What a tutor may legitimately do: teach the skills a task demands, explain the assessment criteria, ask questions that expose a weak argument, read what the student has written and say where it is unclear or unsupported, model structure on a different example, and mark a timed practice piece. What a tutor may not do: supply content to be presented as the student's own, hand over text, or take a draft away and return it rewritten. The work and the words stay the student's. One operator in this market sells completed Internal Assessments outright at a published price; that is an academic-integrity breach and precisely the behaviour these rules exist to stop.

The same principle governs materials. Board syllabuses, mark schemes, past papers and grade-boundary tables belong to Cambridge and Pearson, and reproducing or supplying them is copyright infringement. The correct practice is to reference them, cite the official page, and teach from the student's own copy issued by the school or downloaded by the family from the board's site. Any site offering bundles of past papers as downloads is telling you something about how it operates.

For Dubai parents there is a second, local dimension. Abu Dhabi's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and teachers tutoring outside school hours must hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit, whose code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with their own school. That is press-reported rather than quoted from the policy document, so verify current wording before relying on it — but the direction is clear, and no reputable arrangement markets your child's own teacher privately.

How many hours a grade actually takes

  • A marked script first; it decides whether the problem is technique or content
  • Technique leaks typically close in 8-14 sessions with between-session practice
  • Starting after January mocks means triage, not a full syllabus rebuild
  • Between-session timed sets are the strongest predictor of grade movement
  • If sets stop being completed, we tell you rather than continuing the slot

The question every Dubai parent asks second, after price, is how long this will take. There is no honest single answer, and anyone offering one is selling. What can be said usefully is how the variables interact: how far the current mark sits from the target, whether the gap is technique or content, how many weeks remain before the series, and whether the student will do the work between sessions.

The technique-versus-content distinction does most of the explanatory work. A student losing twelve marks a paper to unshown method, misread command terms and timing collapse is holding the content and leaking marks, and that leak closes in roughly eight to fourteen sessions with between-session practice. A student who has not secured a third of the syllabus is in a different position entirely, and no number of technique sessions substitutes for the content. The marked diagnostic script tells you which case you are in, which is why it comes first.

The second variable is weeks remaining, and it behaves non-linearly. Starting in September of Year 11 for a May/June series gives roughly thirty usable weeks and allows content and technique to run in parallel. Starting after the January mocks gives perhaps fourteen, which forces a choice: secure the accessible marks and the technique, and accept that the hardest extended topics will not be built from nothing. Starting six weeks out is not pointless, but it is triage — paper-sitting discipline, command terms and the four highest-cost loss patterns, in that order.

The third variable is the only one entirely outside the tutor's control. Across every delivery format, the strongest predictor of whether IGCSE tutoring moves a grade is whether the student completes the timed question set between sessions. We build short sets precisely so completing them is realistic for a Dubai student carrying nine or ten subjects, and the following session opens by marking them, so the loop closes. Where sets stop being done, we say so in writing rather than continuing to bill a slot that has stopped working.

Who may legally tutor in Dubai, and how a parent checks

Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated, and a Dubai parent arranging a tutor independently is the one who carries the checking burden. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. It is granted free of charge for two years, and eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students.

Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. No fine schedule has been published, so any specific figure circulating online should be treated with scepticism; the ministry has not specified amounts. The official application route is MoHRE's own service, listed as issuance of a new work permit for private tutor licensing, applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system.

A separate permit governs anything that operates as a business with premises and staff. A training institute in Dubai requires a KHDA Educational Services Permit, with initial approval first and a maximum of six months to complete the permit and licence steps, and annual renewal requested at least thirty days before expiry. That distinction matters because claims of KHDA endorsement for individual tutors circulate freely in this market and usually describe something the seller does not hold. IB Gram holds no regulator permit, accreditation or endorsement, and makes no such claim anywhere on this site.

What a Dubai parent can practically do: ask any independent tutor whether they hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit and under what category, ask whether the student is enrolled at the tutor's own school, and ask which syllabus code they are teaching to. Three questions, and they filter out most of the risk in this market without requiring you to become an expert in it.

Dubai communities we book IGCSE sessions for, and what the Year 11 week looks like there

IGCSE scheduling is governed by mock seasons, after-school commitments and the drive home. These are the Dubai communities that generate most of our Year 10 and Year 11 requests, with the practical detail that decides which slot actually survives a term.

Arabian Ranches and Dubai Hills

British-curriculum heartland with large Year 10 and Year 11 cohorts. Sessions here cluster at 17:00 and 18:30 because school buses and sports fixtures occupy the late afternoon. Mock season in January produces the sharpest spike in Extended Maths requests of any Dubai community.

Al Barsha and Umm Suqeim

Several large British schools within a few minutes of each other, often using different boards for the same subject. Families frequently discover at the first session that a neighbour's child sits 4MA1 while theirs sits 0580. Early-evening slots are workable because commutes are short.

Jumeirah and Al Safa

Short school runs and a high proportion of students taking ten subjects, which makes timetable pressure rather than ability the limiting factor. Requests here skew towards two subjects at once, usually a science plus Extended Maths, and towards 45-minute rather than 60-minute sessions.

Dubai Marina, JLT and Palm Jumeirah

Apartment households where a quiet room matters more than travel time. Students often work at a desk with the past paper on screen and the script scanned in advance, which suits mark-by-mark feedback. Late slots to 20:00 are more common here than elsewhere.

Mirdif, Uptown and Al Warqa

Long bus runs mean many students are not home until after 16:30, so weekday sessions start late and weekend mornings carry an unusual share of the load. Families here most often ask for a single-subject block across the two terms before the exam series.

Al Furjan, Dubai South and Jumeirah Village

Newer communities with growing secondary cohorts and significant commutes against the morning flow. Holiday blocks in the December and spring breaks are the practical way to recover a term, and demand for those blocks here exceeds weekly bookings.

Nad Al Sheba, Meydan and Dubai Silicon Oasis

Mixed curriculum catchments where some students move into IGCSE from a different system in Year 10. Transition work — closing the algebra and scientific-notation gap left by a previous curriculum — is the dominant request rather than exam polish.

Deira, Al Garhoud and Dubai Festival City

Established schools with long-running IGCSE provision and a high proportion of Arabic first-language candidates. Requests split between Extended Maths and Arabic 0508, and early-evening Arabic slots fill before anything else on the timetable.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai

Large British-curriculum secondaries, new Dubai

Schools running full IGCSE option blocks into A Level, with Year 11 cohorts big enough that setting decisions are made early and are hard to move. Most requests from this cluster are Extended Maths and the separate sciences, triggered by a January mock rather than by a report.

  • Jumeirah College
  • Dubai British School Jumeirah Park
  • Kings' School Al Barsha
  • Safa British School
  • Dubai British School Emirates Hills
  • GEMS Wellington Academy Al Khail

Established British-curriculum schools, central Dubai

Longer-standing secondaries where IGCSE provision is deep and some subjects run with the coursework option. Requests here include Literature set texts and the Geography and History coursework routes, where the rules on permitted support are strict and worth reading before any tutoring is booked.

  • Dubai English Speaking College
  • Jumeirah English Speaking School, Arabian Ranches
  • The English College Dubai
  • Our Own English High School
  • GEMS Wellington International School

Schools where students move into IGCSE from another system

Dubai's turnover means a meaningful number of Year 10 students start IGCSE having come from a different curriculum. The work in this cluster is a content audit against the specific syllabus code rather than exam technique, and it is best done in the first term rather than the third.

  • GEMS Modern Academy
  • The Indian High School, Dubai
  • Dubai Scholars Private School
  • Universal American School, Dubai
  • GEMS Founders School Al Barsha

Schools are named only as context for the Dubai IGCSE market; IB Gram has no affiliation, partnership or endorsement arrangement with any school or group listed, and no inspection rating is reproduced here — those are published by KHDA.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the board, the code and a recent paper

Start with three items: the exam board, the syllabus code from the entry statement, and a recent mock or past paper the student has already sat. The script is the valuable part. A marked paper tells a tutor more in twenty minutes than a term of general description, and it is what the first session is built from.

  2. 02

A marked diagnostic against the board's own scheme

The tutor marks the script to the published mark scheme and returns a written note naming the four or five recurring loss patterns, roughly what each costs per paper, and which to attack first by marks available. If the honest reading is that the tier is wrong rather than the technique, the note says that instead.

  3. 03

    One free 30-minute trial lesson

Thirty minutes with the tutor who would actually teach the subject, over live video in Gulf Standard Time. One trial per family and no card details taken. The trial works on the highest-cost loss pattern from the diagnostic, so you see the actual teaching rather than a sales conversation.

  4. 04

    A weekly slot and a between-session set

Sessions are fixed around the Dubai school week and any sports or activity commitments. Each one ends with a short timed question set sized for a student carrying nine or ten subjects, and the next session opens by marking it. That loop is what moves marks; without it the slot is just company.

  5. 05

    Section-level mark tracking, not vibes

Progress is tracked as marks recovered by paper section, so revision time follows the marks rather than the student's preferences. Every third week in an exam-term block, a full paper is sat under timed conditions and marked, which is also the only reliable way to build paper stamina.

  6. 06

    An end condition, written down

The block ends when the named loss patterns are closed or the series is sat, whichever comes first. We will tell you when to stop, reduce or switch subject, and if between-session sets stop being completed we will say that too rather than quietly continuing to bill a slot that has stopped producing anything.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

We teach to a syllabus code, not a subject name

0580 and 4MA1 are different exams with different papers, and 0625 carries a practical component that 4PH1 does not. Matching happens on the code from your child's entry statement, because a tutor teaching the wrong paper structure for a term is a term lost at full price.

The first deliverable is a marked script

Before any teaching, a recent paper is marked against the board's published scheme and the recurring loss patterns are named in writing with the marks they cost. That is a document you keep and can take to the school, whether or not you book anything further.

Delivery stated plainly on the page

Lessons for Dubai families run one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not send tutors to UAE addresses, and home visits are a service we run only in India. You read that here rather than discovering it after a booking.

Calendar dates sourced, and gaps admitted

Cambridge and Pearson dates on this page come from the boards' own published key dates and timetables. Where a date is not verified — any IB session or results date — we publish nothing and say why, rather than restating something found on another tutoring site.

A clear line on coursework and materials

Feedback on the student's own writing, criteria explained, structure modelled on other examples. No content supplied, no drafts rewritten, no board past papers or mark schemes redistributed. In a market where one operator sells completed assessments, this is worth stating explicitly.

No regulator claims, no invented statistics

IB Gram holds no KHDA, ADEK, MoHRE or board accreditation and claims none. Every figure on this page is attributed to the source that published it with the date it was read, and where we have no sourced number we leave the space empty instead of filling it.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

Do IGCSE home tutors in Dubai still travel to the villa, or is it all online now?+

Both models exist in Dubai. Visiting tutors are a real market priced by Bestimate's 2026 rate table at AED 180 to AED 350 an hour including travel, with monthly packages for four two-hour visits published at AED 1,599 to AED 1,799. IB Gram does not run home visits in Dubai — that is a service we offer only in India. Dubai families work one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time, with past papers annotated on screen mark by mark. The practical trade-off is specialist access against physical presence: online reaches the 0580 Extended or 4PH1 specialist regardless of which community you live in.

What does an IGCSE tutor charge per hour in Dubai, and what is inside that figure?+

Market rates read in October 2026 put qualified online IGCSE tuition at roughly AED 150 to AED 300 an hour, with Unitors publishing IGCSE tuition from AED 150, visiting tutors at AED 180 to AED 350 per Bestimate's 2026 table, and independent listings reaching AED 500. Budget platforms start far lower — Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52, EdFlik from AED 45 to 65 — and generally buy homework supervision rather than syllabus-level teaching. For visiting tutors, travel is inside the figure whether or not it is itemised. Those are market bands, not an IB Gram price; our quote follows a free 30-minute trial lesson.

Should my child be entered for Core or Extended in Cambridge IGCSE?+

Decide it on a marked Extended past paper sat under timed conditions, not on a prediction. Core is capped at grade C and Extended spans A* to E, so the choice sets a ceiling before revision begins. Three questions settle it: are the accessible marks on an Extended paper actually being collected, is algebraic manipulation fluent, and does the student intend A Level Mathematics or a science at sixteen? Core closes those doors and reopening them in Year 12 is expensive. Audit it in Year 10, because entry decisions sit with the school and a change after the final entry deadline may not be possible.

How do I find out whether my school uses Cambridge 0580 or Edexcel 4MA1?+

The syllabus code is on the exam entry statement the school issues, and the examinations officer will confirm it in one email. It is worth asking subject by subject rather than once, because Dubai schools commonly mix boards: a student can sit Cambridge Mathematics and Pearson Edexcel Physics in the same series. Once you have the codes, read the current syllabus on cambridgeinternational.org or qualifications.pearson.com for the series your child will sit, since specifications are revised and the version in force for that series may differ from the one a tutor last taught. Any tutor who has not asked for the code has not started work.

Does Paper 6 alternative-to-practical work mean lab skills can be taught over video?+

It depends on the board, which is why the code matters. Cambridge IGCSE Physics 0625, Chemistry 0620 and Biology 0610 carry a separate practical component worth 20 per cent — Paper 5, the practical test, or Paper 6, the alternative to practical — and the school decides which route candidates sit. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE sciences assess practical skills inside the written papers with no separate practical paper. The laboratory work itself happens at school in either case. What tutoring covers is the written assessment of practical skills: apparatus description, variable control, tabulation, graph work, uncertainty and the specific phrasing those questions reward.

My child is predicted a 5 in Extended Maths. What actually moves that to a 7?+

On most Dubai scripts at that level, three things: method shown on every multi-step question, timing discipline so the final third of the paper is reached, and the four or five topics that are genuinely absent rather than shaky. The first two are habit work and typically recover six to twelve marks a paper within three or four sessions. The content gap is the slower part and needs identifying precisely, which is what a marked script does. What will not move it is another pass through the textbook from page one — that is the commonest way an exam year is spent without the grade changing.

When is the entry deadline for the IGCSE series a Dubai student will actually sit?+

UAE candidates sit the June and the November series, so the deadline you need is the one attached to whichever of those two your school enters you for. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE November 2026 is the clearest worked example: the final timetable runs from late October to 19 November 2026, and results reach students in January, as the November 2025 series did on 22 January 2026. Entries for a November sitting close early in the autumn term, and entries for a Cambridge June sitting close in the spring, roughly four months before the first paper, which is the practical reason a tier decision cannot wait until revision starts. Deadlines are set by the awarding body and administered through your school, so confirm the exact date for your series with the examinations officer rather than relying on any third-party page, and disregard the February and March dates some tutoring sites quote, because that sitting is offered in India only.

Why does the Cambridge timetable depend on which administrative zone our school is in?+

Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones, and each zone has its own version of the timetable so that papers are sat within an acceptable window across time zones. Cambridge states that it is essential to use the correct version for your zone and that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an examination after using the wrong one. For a Dubai family this is a genuine risk, because a timetable found through a search engine may well be another zone's. Ask your school which zone it sits in and work only from the version it issues.

Is the equivalency subject count five or six, and which figure should I trust?+

Five. On the British track, students must pass five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, alongside proof of one accredited subject at Advanced Level at a grade no lower than E or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. At least one page ranking for these searches publishes a six-subject figure, which does not match the published rule. Equivalency is the Ministry's process and nobody else's: verify the current requirement on the Ministry's own channel before making a subject decision on it.

Are Arabic and Islamic Education counted among the five equivalency subjects?+

No. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects for the GCSE and IGCSE count on the British track. That has a practical consequence for option choices in Year 9 and Year 10: a student needs five accredited subjects outside those two at grade E or grade 3 or better, so dropping a sixth academic subject to lighten a timetable can quietly put the count at risk. The subjects remain mandatory at school under KHDA requirements regardless of the curriculum your school is licensed to teach, so this is about the equivalency count specifically, not about whether they are studied.

Can a tutor help with IGCSE coursework, or does that break the rules?+

A tutor can teach the skills the task needs, explain the assessment criteria, question a weak argument, read what the student has written and say where it is unsupported, model structure using a different example, and mark timed practice. A tutor cannot supply content, hand over text, or take a draft away and return it rewritten. The work and the words stay the student's own, and the consequences of a breach fall on the student rather than the tutor. Materials matter too: board syllabuses, past papers and mark schemes should be read on the official sites, not redistributed by a tutoring provider.

Is it too late to start IGCSE tutoring in Year 11 with two terms left?+

Two terms is enough for a meaningful change if the diagnosis is honest about what will fit. Roughly fourteen usable weeks after January mocks forces a choice: secure the accessible marks and close the technique leaks, rather than building the hardest extended topics from nothing. In that order the work is paper-sitting discipline, command terms, method shown on every question, and then the two or three content gaps that cost the most marks. What does not work in two terms is starting at chapter one. Six weeks out is triage rather than tutoring, and we will describe it that way instead of selling it as a programme.

Can my child sit Maths with Cambridge and Physics with Edexcel in the same year?+

Yes, and in Dubai it is common, because schools choose boards subject by subject. It has one consequence worth planning for: the paper structures, command-term conventions and practical assessment differ between the boards, so revision technique does not transfer cleanly from one subject to the other. A student who has learned Cambridge six-mark answer structure will not automatically produce the right shape for a Pearson extended response. Tutoring should therefore be matched per code rather than per student, which is why we ask for every code on the entry statement rather than just the subject list.

What does a marked diagnostic on a past paper actually tell you?+

It separates leakage from absence, which is the only distinction that matters for planning. A script marked against the board's published scheme shows whether marks are being lost to unshown method, misread command terms, units and significant figures, graph reading and timing collapse — all habit problems that typically close in eight to fourteen sessions — or to topics that are genuinely not there, which is slower work. It also shows where in the paper the marks go, so revision follows the marks rather than the student's preferences. You get it in writing with the cost of each pattern estimated, and it is useful at a parents' evening whether or not you book tutoring.

How many hours per subject does a Dubai IGCSE student usually need?+

The honest answer is that it depends on four things and anyone quoting a single figure is guessing: how far the current mark sits from the target, whether the gap is technique or content, how many weeks remain before the series, and whether the between-session timed sets get done. A technique leak with thirty weeks available is often eight to fourteen sessions. A third of a syllabus missing with fourteen weeks left is a different problem that no session count fixes. That last variable — work completed between sessions — is the strongest single predictor of grade movement in any delivery format.

Send a marked paper before you book anything

The useful first step costs nothing and is not a sales call: send the exam board, the syllabus code from the entry statement, and a recent mock or past paper your child has already sat. You get back a written diagnostic marked against the board's published scheme, naming the recurring loss patterns, roughly what each costs per paper, and which to attack first. Then one free 30-minute trial lesson with the tutor who would teach the subject — one per family, no card details — over live video in Gulf Standard Time. If the honest reading is that the tier is wrong rather than the technique, the note will say so and you can take it to the school.
