IB Tutor near me in Emaar Beachfront

Typing "IB tutor near me" from a tower in Emaar Beachfront produces a list of people who are close. It does not produce a list of people who can tell you why your child keeps losing four marks on Paper 2. This page is about the second thing: the components, the weightings, the criterion letters and the command terms that decide an IB grade. Lessons are one-to-one over live video, so the shortlist is drawn on subject depth instead of driving distance.

IB & IGCSE in Emaar Beachfront

"Near me" is the wrong filter for an IB subject problem

The IB Diploma is assessed through named components with published weightings, and a student's grade is the sum of how they performed on each. That sounds obvious and it changes everything about how tutoring should be bought. A student at a 4 in Chemistry HL is not generally weak at chemistry. They are losing marks in a pattern: on the data-based questions in Paper 1, or on the organic mechanism questions in Paper 2, or inside Criterion C of the scientific investigation. Those are three different problems with three different fixes, and distinguishing between them requires someone who knows the component, not someone who lives nearby.

A proximity search cannot find that person. It finds whoever teaches in the Marina area and is free. For a widely taught SL subject that is often enough. For Chemistry HL, Maths AA HL, Physics HL or an Extended Essay in a specific discipline, the local pool thins to a handful, and the handful is usually booked. Families then hire a generalist and the pattern of lost marks continues unexamined, because a generalist can re-teach a topic but cannot read a Paper 2 script and say which band the answer fell into and why.

Emaar Beachfront makes the geography point unusually plainly. The peninsula has one road link, no school and no tuition centre, and basement access that a visitor cannot use without a resident. A tutor who travels here gives up two hours of their evening for one hour of teaching, and the people willing to do that are selected by willingness rather than by subject. IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; home visits exist only in our India service. Lessons here run one-to-one over live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time, and the tutor is chosen for the component your child is losing marks on.

What follows is that subject detail, written out. The paper structures and weightings for the subjects this cluster takes most. The topics inside Physics and Chemistry where marks reliably disappear, with the reason rather than the label. The command terms that separate an answer scoring two marks from the same knowledge scoring five. The Internal Assessment criteria by letter with their mark allocations, which no competitor page in this market publishes at all. The word and page limits across DP components in one table. And the way past papers should actually be used, which is not the way most students use them.

Everything here is checkable against your child's own subject guide and the school's assessment policy. Confirm current weightings with the Diploma coordinator before you plan around them: the IB revises subject guides on a cycle, and a tutoring site is not the right source of truth for a component percentage. What this page can do is tell you what to look at and what the answer means when you find it.

At a glance

  • An IB grade is a pattern of component performance, not a single ability level
  • Three Higher Levels need three subject teachers
  • IA criteria are lettered and mark-allocated; most families never see them
  • Command terms, not content, cause the largest avoidable losses
  • Online one-to-one in the UAE; no home visits on this peninsula
  • Confirm every weighting against the current subject guide with the school
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

The three IB stages assess completely differently, and a tutor who treats them as one continuum will prepare a student for the wrong thing. This is what each stage actually measures.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS1 to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

Assessed internally through units of inquiry, a portfolio and the Year 6 Exhibition, with no external papers. The transferable skills are explanation and method: a child who can reach a correct answer but not describe the route will meet that gap again in MYP Criterion C and again in a Diploma mark scheme years later.

Primary children from the Beachfront towers travel to Al Sufouh, Al Barsha or Jumeirah, leaving before 07:00. A short, focused online session at 17:00 suits that day far better than a longer one squeezed in earlier.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Four criteria per subject, each marked 0-8, converted to a 1-7 grade by a published school boundary table. Criterion A tends to reward knowledge, Criterion D application in unfamiliar contexts. A student who answers accurately but never transfers the method to a new situation plateaus in the middle bands regardless of effort.

Some schools serving this cluster run MYP to Year 9 then move to IGCSE, so the criteria a Beachfront family is learning may stop applying at 14. Check the pathway before investing in criterion-specific coaching.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects with published component weightings, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS. Up to three bonus points come from the TOK and EE grades combined. The internal assessment carries about a fifth of most subject grades, and it is the component a student has the most control over.

UAE schools sit the May session. IB session and results dates were not confirmed from the IB for this project, so every Diploma date should be checked with your school's coordinator or on ibo.org before a plan depends on it.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

At least two DP subjects taken alongside a career-related study, a reflective project and a core of personal and professional skills. The DP courses inside it are marked to full Diploma standards, so subject tutoring for a CP student is identical to tutoring for a Diploma student in those courses.

CP provision across Dubai is narrow, so families in this cluster who want it usually travel further than they would for the Diploma. It is one of the few genuine cases where the address affects the schooling decision.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

For each subject below, the description names the components and the place marks reliably leak. That is the information a tutor needs on day one, and it is what a proximity search cannot give you.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

SL is assessed through two papers and the exploration; HL adds a third paper. Paper 1 is sat without a calculator, which exposes algebraic fluency directly. The dominant loss is unshown method: a correct answer with no intermediate line collects a fraction of the marks available for it.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Technology is assumed throughout, and both papers permit a graphic display calculator. Marks go on modelling discipline: stating the model, defining the variables, and commenting on whether the output is reasonable. Students who can operate the calculator but not justify the choice stall in the upper bands.

Physics

HL and SL

Paper 1 combines multiple choice with data analysis; Paper 2 is extended response; the scientific investigation completes the grade. Free-body diagrams and circuit redrawing cause more loss than the physics itself, because an unlabelled force cannot be credited however correct the reasoning behind it.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Stoichiometry, energetics, kinetics, equilibrium and organic mechanisms, with HL depth across every theme. Organic mechanisms are the DP2 wall: students who learned arrow patterns rather than electron-pair reasoning cannot handle an unfamiliar substrate, which is precisely what the paper asks.

Biology

HL and SL

Breadth is the difficulty, and command terms are the trap. An answer that describes when the question said explain, or lists when it said outline, forfeits marks the student had earned. This is the single most teachable loss in the subject and it takes a few sessions, not a term.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagram-led extended response plus three commentaries drawn from published news articles. HL adds policy calculation. An unlabelled axis or an unmarked shift direction costs more than a weak theoretical paragraph, because the diagram is where the examiner looks first.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Guided textual analysis, a comparative essay, the Individual Oral, and an additional essay at HL. The Individual Oral rewards preparation more than any other component because the student selects the global issue and the extracts, which makes it the most coachable part of the course.

Business Management

HL and SL

Case-study driven, with a research project at HL built on one real organisation. Application marks dominate: a textbook definition with no named context collects the first mark and stops. Project failure is almost always scope failure rather than analysis failure.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

An exhibition of three objects against a prescribed prompt, and an essay on a prescribed title with a 1,600-word ceiling. Graded A-E and feeding the bonus points. Students lose marks by describing what is known rather than examining how a claim comes to be justified.

Extended Essay

Core

A 4,000-word independent research piece in a chosen subject, supervised at school and marked on lettered criteria weighted heavily towards critical thinking. Scope is the usual failure: a question too broad to answer in the word count produces description where analysis was needed.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Component-level work needs a format that lets the tutor see the student writing. These are the three arrangements that do that, and what each is for.

One subject, one specialist, weekly

A fixed weekly slot with a tutor who teaches that subject at that level and nothing else. The session works on the component where marks are being lost, with the student writing on a shared page the tutor can annotate live. This is the default arrangement and the one that produces component-level diagnosis rather than general revision.

  • Tutor matched to subject and level, not to availability
  • Student writes; the tutor annotates in real time
  • Shared page remains available for revision afterwards
  • Diagnosis recorded so the next session starts where this one ended

Internal assessment coaching block

Scheduled sessions through an exploration, scientific investigation, commentary set or Extended Essay. The work is criterion-mapped: the student knows which letter each session is serving and what the mark allocation for it is. Feedback is given on the student's own draft and nothing else, which is what IB academic honesty requires.

  • Criteria named by letter with their mark allocations
  • Research question narrowed until it fits the word limit
  • Method and data questioned before the write-up begins
  • Feedback on the student's own text, never a rewrite

Past-paper audit block

Short, intense sessions in which the student sits a component under timing, marks it against the real mark scheme themselves, and the tutor audits the marking. The audit is the point: a student who can predict their own mark has internalised the mark scheme, and a student who cannot is guessing at what the examiner wants.

  • One component at a time, under exam timing
  • Student marks first, tutor audits second
  • Error types separated from topic gaps
  • Progress measured by self-prediction accuracy

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Emaar Beachfront

01

Read the component, not the grade

  • Ask for the marked script, not the percentage
  • Expect a topic and error-type breakdown inside the first session
  • Three Higher Levels means three specialists
  • Re-teaching from topic one is what you do when you have not diagnosed

A Diploma report says 4 in Chemistry HL. That number is a sum, and the sum conceals the information. The same 4 can be produced by a student who understands the chemistry and writes poor extended responses, by a student with two unsecured topics and strong technique, and by a student whose scientific investigation scored in the bottom band and dragged an otherwise reasonable set of papers down. Each of those is a different piece of work, needing a different number of sessions, and none of them is addressed by re-teaching the course from topic one.

The first job of a specialist is therefore forensic rather than instructional. Give them the marked script and they will tell you where the marks went: multiple-choice losses clustered in one theme, data-analysis questions where the calculation was right and the uncertainty treatment absent, extended responses that answered a cheaper command term than the one printed. That breakdown takes one session to produce and it determines everything after it. Without it, tutoring is a subscription to activity.

This is also the reason one tutor cannot sensibly carry three Higher Levels. Component-level diagnosis requires knowing the mark scheme of that subject at that level, in detail, from having worked it repeatedly. A teacher whose depth is in Biology can keep a Chemistry HL student moving and cannot reliably tell you that four marks a paper are being lost to incomplete equilibrium reasoning. Expect three names for three Higher Levels. It is more expensive per week and it is the only version of the arrangement that reaches the top of the grade.

02

Maths AA and AI: which papers, which weightings, which choice

Analysis and Approaches and Applications and Interpretation are not a harder and easier version of the same course. AA is algebraic and proof-oriented, with a calculator-free paper that exposes manipulation skill directly. AI is modelling and statistics led, with technology assumed throughout and a greater emphasis on interpreting output in context. A student who is fluent algebraically and dislikes extended written interpretation belongs in AA; a student who reasons well about data and finds abstract manipulation punishing belongs in AI.

The route choice has consequences beyond school. Some university programmes, particularly in engineering, physical sciences and economics at research-intensive institutions, specify AA at Higher Level or treat it as strongly preferred. Others accept either. Because the requirement is set by the receiving institution and changes, the only safe method is to read the current entry requirement on the university's own admissions page for the specific programme, and to do that before the subject choice is locked in Year 11 rather than after.

For tutoring, the practical difference is what a session contains. AA work is heavy on technique drills, proof structure and calculator-free fluency. AI work is heavier on model selection, statistical justification and writing a conclusion that refers back to the context. The exploration differs too: an AI exploration usually needs real data and a defensible collection method, while an AA exploration more often needs a genuinely mathematical question rather than an applied one. Confirm the current weightings for your child's cohort with the school, since the IB revises guides on a cycle.

Where marks go missing in Physics and Chemistry at Higher Level

  • Unlabelled free-body diagrams and misdrawn circuits cost more than content gaps
  • Chemistry: unit handling, sign conventions and electron-pair reasoning
  • Organic mechanisms learned by shape fail on an unfamiliar substrate
  • Evaluation, not analysis, is the weakest investigation criterion for most students

In Physics the recurring losses are mechanical rather than conceptual. A free-body diagram drawn with three forces and no labels cannot be credited, because the examiner has nothing to mark. A circuit redrawn incorrectly before the analysis begins produces a flawless calculation of the wrong thing. Vector problems resolved along the wrong axis cost the whole question even when the trigonometry is perfect. None of these are knowledge failures and all of them are habits, which means they are fixable in weeks rather than terms, once someone has named them.

In Chemistry the pattern is different. Stoichiometry errors in DP1 usually trace back to unit handling rather than to moles. Energetics losses come from sign conventions. Equilibrium questions collapse when a student applies a memorised rule instead of reasoning from the position of the system. And organic mechanisms are the wall: a student who learned arrow patterns by shape can reproduce the three mechanisms they have seen and fails on the fourth, because the paper deliberately supplies an unfamiliar substrate. Teaching electron-pair reasoning fixes this; more practice on the same three does not.

Both subjects also carry a scientific investigation worth about a fifth of the grade, and in both the weakest criterion is usually evaluation rather than analysis. Students collect reasonable data, process it correctly, and then write a conclusion that restates the result without examining the limitations of the method that produced it. That is a specific, markable gap, and it is addressable in two or three sessions if it is identified before the final draft rather than after. Confirm current component weightings with your child's teacher.

04

Command terms: the same knowledge, two marks or five

Every IB question begins with a command term and the term sets the ceiling. State and list ask for recall and are marked accordingly. Describe and explain ask for different things, and answering the first when the second was printed is the most common self-inflicted loss across every subject in the Diploma. Analyse, evaluate, discuss, justify and to what extent all require a judgement supported by evidence, and an answer that supplies only the evidence stops short of the band it was aiming for.

The repair is mechanical and fast. The student reads a dozen past questions in their subject, identifies the command term in each, writes down what that term demands before writing any content, and then compares their answer against the mark scheme's structure rather than its wording. Two or three sessions of this changes the shape of every answer a student writes afterwards. It is the highest-return work available in IB tutoring and it is almost never what families ask for, because it looks like technique rather than teaching.

It matters doubly for students who moved into the Diploma from IGCSE or from a national curriculum, where the command vocabulary differs. A Year 11 student rewarded for thorough description arrives in DP1 and writes thorough description in response to evaluate, and their grade drops for reasons nobody explains. That transition, not the content step, is the main reason strong IGCSE candidates post disappointing DP1 reports in the first term.

05

The Internal Assessment criteria, by letter

Most families never see the criteria their child's internal assessment is marked against, which is remarkable given it carries roughly a fifth of the subject grade. The criteria are lettered, each carries a published maximum, and they reward different things. A mathematics exploration is marked on presentation, mathematical communication, personal engagement, reflection and use of mathematics, with use of mathematics carrying the largest allocation. A science investigation is marked on research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation, each carrying an equal share.

Knowing the letters changes how a student spends their time. A mathematics student who writes a beautifully formatted exploration about a question requiring trivial mathematics has optimised the smallest criterion and sacrificed the largest. A science student who collects excellent data and writes two lines of evaluation has thrown away a quarter of the available marks. These are not subtle errors; they are predictable ones, and they are avoided by mapping the work to the letters before it starts rather than after a draft exists.

The Extended Essay follows the same logic with its own lettered criteria, weighted heavily towards critical thinking rather than towards knowledge or presentation. A student who writes 4,000 words of well-organised description has maximised the smaller criteria and missed the largest. Because the IB revises subject guides and criteria on a cycle, the allocations below should be confirmed against the current guide for your child's cohort through the Diploma coordinator before any plan is built on them.

06

Word limits, page limits and why they are not advisory

Diploma components carry hard limits and students treat them as targets to exceed. The Extended Essay has a 4,000-word ceiling. The TOK essay has 1,600. Mathematics explorations have a recommended page range rather than a word count. Science investigations have a word ceiling. Economics commentaries have a tight individual limit and a combined one. In most cases material beyond the limit is simply not read, which means the student spent the time and received nothing for it, and in some cases the overrun itself is penalised.

The practical consequence is that scope has to be decided at the research-question stage. A question that cannot be answered in 4,000 words will produce either an overrun or a superficial treatment, and the only fix is a narrower question. This is the single most valuable thing a tutor does on an Extended Essay, and it happens in the first two sessions or not at all. A student who arrives with a draft and an unanswerable question is being asked to salvage rather than to write.

The same discipline helps on the shorter components. A TOK essay at 1,600 words has room for one developed line of argument examined from two perspectives, not for a survey of the whole prescribed title. An economics commentary has room for one diagram properly used. Students who understand the limit as a design constraint write better pieces than students who understand it as a ceiling to approach. Limits should be confirmed against the current subject guide, since the IB revises them.

How past papers should actually be used

  • One component, real timing, no interruptions
  • Student marks strictly against the official scheme, including method marks
  • Every lost mark logged by type, not just counted
  • Tutor audits the marking, because self-credit is systematically generous

Most students use past papers as a quiz. They work through questions, check answers, mark themselves generously, and feel prepared. That produces familiarity and almost no mark improvement, because the step that creates improvement is the one being skipped: marking against the mark scheme and understanding why the scheme awarded what it did. A student who can predict their own mark to within a few marks has internalised the examiner's logic. A student who cannot is guessing, and will keep guessing in the exam.

The method is simple and uncomfortable. Sit one component under real timing, with no interruptions. Mark it yourself against the official mark scheme, strictly, including every method mark. Record every lost mark by type: content not known, command term misread, method not shown, arithmetic, timing. Then bring the marked script to the session and let the tutor audit the marking, because students systematically over-credit themselves on exactly the answers they half-understood.

Three or four cycles of that changes behaviour permanently. The error-type log tells you what to work on next, which is why the sessions after a paper audit are narrow and productive rather than general. It also removes the argument about whether revision is working: the self-prediction gap closes or it does not. Official papers and mark schemes should be obtained through the school rather than from a tutoring site, and we reference them rather than supplying them, because reproducing board material is not ours to do.

Booking a specialist from Emaar Beachfront

  • Send subject, level, the suspected component and the marked script
  • One specialist per subject; three Higher Levels means three names
  • Free trial lesson, one per student, ending in a written mark breakdown
  • Tutor changed rather than defended if the match is wrong

Send the subject, the level, the component you believe is the problem, and the marked script if the school will release it. Add the hours that genuinely exist after a school run that starts before 07:00 and ends after 15:30. The script is the most useful document you can provide, because it converts the first session from a conversation into a diagnosis, and it is the reason our trial lessons produce a written mark breakdown rather than an introduction.

We then match one specialist per subject and level and propose a weekly slot in Gulf Standard Time. One free trial lesson per student, no card required. If the match is wrong, the tutor changes; persisting with a poor match is the most expensive thing a Diploma family can do, because DP2 does not have spare terms. Lessons run one-to-one over live video with a shared working page the student keeps, and we do not provide home visits anywhere in the UAE.

The limits are worth stating. We cannot promise a grade and no tutor who has read a mark scheme would. A niche Higher Level subject at a specific hour sometimes has no specialist free that week, and we will say so and offer the realistic alternatives rather than fill the slot with a generalist. And component-level work needs the student to do the writing between sessions; a tutor can make an hour count and cannot substitute for the six hours around it.

Where we tutor

The towers this search comes from, and what each one does to a session

Proximity still matters for one thing: the hour at which your child can concentrate. These are the communities around Emaar Beachfront and the scheduling reality in each.

Emaar Beachfront

Towers on a reclaimed peninsula with one road link, no school and escorted visitor parking. Children leave before 07:00 and return after 15:30, which puts the useful study window at 17:00 and later on a weekday.

Dubai Harbour

The adjoining district around the cruise terminal and marina berths. Same access corridor, same school-run pattern, with cruise-call days adding an afternoon variable that a fixed in-home slot cannot absorb.

Dubai Marina

Denser and tram-served, with the largest local pool of tutors willing to travel. The pool is still thin for Higher Level sciences, which is the clearest evidence that distance is not what limits a shortlist.

JBR

Settled, walkable and with the cluster's longest-established tutoring market. Families here report the same component-level problems and the same difficulty finding someone who can diagnose them.

Al Sufouh

Where much of the cluster's secondary schooling sits, including long-running IB and British provision. Mock windows along this corridor tend to fall in the same fortnight, which concentrates demand for diagnostic work.

The Greens and The Views

Low-rise apartment communities inland of the Marina with their own feeder provision. Frequently recommended as an easier base for tutoring; in practice the Higher Level specialist gap is identical.

Palm Jumeirah

One trunk road, separate access for frontline villas and towers, and travel times that in-home tutors commonly price a surcharge against. The clearest local case for removing travel from the arrangement entirely.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Emaar Beachfront

Al Sufouh, Al Barsha and Umm Suqeim

The main secondary destination from both peninsulas, with full IB continuum schools alongside British provision running IGCSE then A Level or the Diploma. For a tutor this matters because the same year group in one tower can be working to two different assessment models.

  • GEMS World Academy Dubai
  • Dubai American Academy
  • GEMS Wellington International School
  • American School of Dubai
  • Nord Anglia International School Dubai
  • Kings' School Dubai
  • Dubai College

Jumeirah, Al Safa and The Meadows

The second commute direction, taken by families who chose a specific IB continuum or a specific school culture over proximity. Afternoon returns from here are the least predictable in the cluster, which is the practical argument for a slot that can move.

  • Emirates International School Jumeirah
  • Emirates International School Meadows
  • JESS Jumeirah
  • Dubai International Academy Al Barsha
  • Horizon English School

These schools are named only to describe the assessment context around your child. IB Gram has no affiliation, partnership or endorsement arrangement with any of them.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Name the component, not the subject

Tell us whether the problem looks like Paper 1, Paper 2, the internal assessment or the core. Even a rough answer narrows the match considerably, and the marked script settles it. Families who send a script get a diagnosis in the trial lesson instead of an introduction.

  2. 02

One specialist per subject and level

Chemistry HL is matched to a Chemistry HL teacher. If three Higher Levels are in play, expect three names and three slots. We will tell you when a subject has no specialist free at your preferred hour rather than offering a generalist as a substitute.

  3. 03

Free trial with a written mark breakdown

One trial lesson per student, no card required. It ends with lost marks sorted by type: content, command term, method, arithmetic, timing. That breakdown is yours whether or not you continue, and it tells you what any tutor should be working on next.

  4. 04

Weekly sessions with the student writing

A fixed slot in Gulf Standard Time on live video, with the student working on a shared page the tutor annotates live. The page stays available, so revision happens from the student's own corrected work rather than from a textbook they have never marked up.

  5. 05

Audit against the mark scheme every fortnight

Every two weeks a component is sat under timing, self-marked and audited. The measure is the gap between the student's predicted mark and the real one. When that gap closes, the technique is internalised; while it stays open, the sessions stay narrow.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Component-level diagnosis, not general revision

The first session produces a breakdown of lost marks by type and topic. That is what determines the plan, and it is why we ask for the marked script rather than the reported grade before we match anyone to your child.

Criterion letters published, not hinted at

The internal assessment criteria and their allocations are set out on this page. No competitor page researched for this market names a single criterion by letter, which is why so many students optimise the smallest one.

Subject depth instead of driving distance

Online delivery removes the geographic filter from the shortlist, which matters most for the subjects where the local pool is thinnest: Chemistry HL, Physics HL, Maths AA HL and specialist Extended Essay supervision support.

Mark schemes referenced, never supplied

Official papers, mark schemes and subject guides come from your school or the board's own site. We link and explain them; we do not reproduce or distribute board material, because that is not ours to hand out.

Coursework stays the student's own work

Tutors map work to criteria, narrow research questions, question methods and give feedback on the student's own drafts. They do not write, complete or edit assessed work, and they will decline that request rather than negotiate it.

No accreditation claimed that does not exist

IB Gram holds no IB, KHDA, ADEK or Ministry accreditation and claims none. KHDA inspects Dubai private schools; it does not endorse tutors. Any page offering you a regulator-approved tutor is offering a credential that is not issued.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Emaar Beachfront: your questions answered

Does an IB tutor near Emaar Beachfront actually need to be nearby?+

Only if the lesson happens in your apartment, and ours do not. IB Gram teaches one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time and does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE. What proximity buys you is a shorter list of people who are close; what it costs you is the ability to choose on subject depth. For a Higher Level science or an Extended Essay in a specific discipline, that trade is expensive, because the local pool on this peninsula is small before you have even asked about availability.

How do I tell whether my child's Chemistry problem is content or technique?+

Look at the marked script rather than the grade. Multiple-choice losses clustered in one theme point to a content gap. Correct calculations with missing uncertainty treatment, or extended responses that describe when the question said explain, point to technique. A specialist produces that breakdown in one session, which is why we ask for the script before matching anyone. The two problems need different work and different session counts, and treating a technique problem as a content problem means re-teaching a course the student already knows.

Should my child take Maths AA or AI for a Beachfront school's DP?+

It depends on how they think and on where they intend to apply. AA is algebraic and proof-oriented with a calculator-free paper; AI is modelling and statistics led with technology assumed throughout. Some engineering, physical science and economics programmes specify or strongly prefer AA at Higher Level while others accept either, and because the requirement is set by the receiving university and does change, read the current entry requirement on that university's own admissions page for the named programme before the choice is locked.

What is the Internal Assessment marked against, criterion by criterion?+

Lettered criteria with published maximum marks. A mathematics exploration is assessed on presentation, mathematical communication, personal engagement, reflection and use of mathematics, with use of mathematics carrying the largest allocation. A science investigation is assessed on research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation. The Extended Essay weights critical thinking most heavily. Map the work to the letters before starting, because the commonest failure is a beautifully presented piece that maximised the smallest criterion. Confirm current allocations against your child's subject guide.

Why did my child's grades drop after moving from IGCSE into DP1?+

Usually command vocabulary rather than content. IGCSE rewards thorough description; the Diploma asks students to analyse, evaluate and judge, and an answer that supplies evidence without a supported judgement cannot reach the top band. A strong IGCSE candidate who keeps writing in IGCSE register posts a disappointing first DP1 report and nobody explains why. Two or three sessions on command terms changes the shape of every answer afterwards, which makes it the highest-return work available early in the Diploma.

How long should the Extended Essay actually be, and when does scope get fixed?+

The ceiling is 4,000 words and material beyond it is generally not read. Scope therefore has to be settled at the research-question stage, in the first two sessions, because a question that cannot be answered in 4,000 words produces either an overrun or a superficial treatment and neither is recoverable later. The most valuable thing a tutor does on an EE is narrow the question until it is answerable with a defensible method. A student arriving with a draft and an unanswerable question is salvaging, not writing.

Can a tutor mark my child's practice papers for them?+

A tutor can audit the marking, which is better. Have the student sit the component under timing, mark it themselves against the official scheme including method marks, and log every lost mark by type. Then the tutor checks the marking, because students systematically over-credit themselves on answers they half-understood. The measure of progress is the gap between the predicted mark and the real one. When that closes, the examiner's logic has been internalised, which is the actual goal.

Where do we get official past papers and mark schemes?+

From your child's school, or from the board's own channels. We reference and explain them in sessions and we do not reproduce or distribute board material, because syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes and grade-boundary tables are not ours to hand out. Any site offering them as free downloads is redistributing copyrighted material, and for unreleased material that carries a malpractice exposure for the student as well. Ask the subject teacher first; most schools release recent papers on request.

My child has three Higher Levels. Is one tutor really not enough?+

Not if you want component-level work. Diagnosing why four marks a paper are leaking in Chemistry HL requires repeated familiarity with that subject's mark scheme at that level. A teacher whose depth is in Biology will keep a Chemistry HL student moving and will not spot an incomplete equilibrium argument. Expect three names for three Higher Levels. It costs more per week and it is the difference between a plateau at 5 and movement in the bands where university offers are decided.

What time of day works for a Diploma student living on the peninsula?+

17:00 at the earliest on a weekday, and 17:30 if the bus from Al Barsha or Al Sufouh is unreliable. Children here leave before 07:00 and get back after 15:30, and the hour after that belongs to food rather than calculus. Weekend mornings are the most productive slots we schedule for this cluster and are where we put internal assessment work, because a criterion-mapped session needs ninety uninterrupted minutes rather than a tired hour squeezed before dinner.

Which IB subjects are hardest to find a specialist for around the Marina?+

Chemistry at Higher Level, Physics at Higher Level, Maths AA at Higher Level and Extended Essay support in a narrow discipline, in roughly that order. Those are the subjects where a proximity search returns names who are willing rather than names who are expert. Removing travel from the arrangement removes that filter entirely, which is the main practical argument for online delivery in this cluster rather than any claim about technology being superior to a person in a room.

How many sessions does a component-level problem usually take?+

A command-term problem changes within two or three sessions, because it is a habit rather than a gap. A single unsecured topic takes three to five, depending on what it rests on. An internal assessment coached from the research-question stage runs across six to ten sessions spread over the school's own deadline cycle. A two-year pattern of missing algebraic fluency takes a term. Any tutor quoting a session count before seeing the script is quoting a package rather than an estimate.

Do you teach Theory of Knowledge and the reflective core?+

Yes, as argument coaching rather than as content delivery. The TOK essay has a 1,600-word ceiling and a prescribed title, which leaves room for one developed line of argument examined from two perspectives rather than a survey. Sessions work on unpacking the title, testing whether a claim actually supports the position taken, and finding examples that do work rather than examples that sound impressive. The student writes every word; the tutor questions the argument and gives feedback on the draft.

What happens in the trial lesson if we send the marked script?+

The tutor spends it on diagnosis. They read the script, sort the lost marks into content gaps, command-term errors, unshown method, arithmetic and timing, and tell you which of those is costing the most. You get that breakdown in writing at the end, whether or not you continue with us, and it is useful to any tutor you hire afterwards. One trial per student, no card required. Without the script the trial still works, but the first hour goes on finding out what the script would have shown.

Send the script and we will tell you where the marks are going

A proximity search answers a question about geography. The question that changes a Diploma grade is which component is leaking marks and why. Send us the subject, the level and the marked script if your school will release it, along with the hours that genuinely exist after the school run from the peninsula. We will match a specialist for that subject at that level, propose a weekly slot in Gulf Standard Time, and begin with a written breakdown of lost marks by type. One free trial lesson per student, no card required.
