IB Physics Tutor in Dubai Knowledge Park

An IB physics tutor in Dubai Knowledge Park is usually wanted after one of three things happens: fields and circuits stop making sense, the data-analysis section of Paper 1 comes back half marked, or the scientific investigation has a method that will not generate usable data. This page works through the current guide, the twenty-four investigation marks and the uncertainty work almost nobody teaches explicitly. Lessons are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

IB & IGCSE in Dubai Knowledge Park

Physics fails in a particular way, and it is rarely about physics

Diploma physics produces a distinctive kind of struggle. A student can describe a concept accurately, explain it out loud, and still lose most of the marks on a question about it. That is because the subject is examined through algebra, through graphs and through precise written reasoning, and a student can hold the physics while failing all three. Parents in this catchment usually notice the symptom - a grade dropping from a 6 to a 4 across one term - without the diagnosis, and the diagnosis is what decides whether tutoring is worth buying.

The current subject guide organises the course into five themes: space, time and motion; the particulate nature of matter; wave behaviour; fields; and nuclear and quantum physics. The options and the old Paper 3 are gone, which matters because revision material written for the earlier guide is still circulating widely and still being sold. Assessment is Paper 1, split into a multiple-choice section and a data-analysis section, carrying 36 per cent; Paper 2, carrying 44 per cent; and the scientific investigation, carrying 20 per cent.

The three failure modes are separable and each needs a different response. Algebraic failure shows as marks lost whenever an equation has to be rearranged under time pressure, and it is usually a maths problem that happens to be sitting in a physics paper. Graph failure shows as marks lost on gradients, intercepts and the uncertainty work in Paper 1B. Written-reasoning failure shows as answers that are correct but score in the lower band, because the command term asked for an explanation and received a description.

The scientific investigation is the fourth failure mode and it is the one families see coming least. It carries twenty per cent of the grade, is marked out of twenty-four across four criteria, and is finished months before the papers against a school deadline that sits well ahead of the IB's own. Most of the marks lost here are lost at the design stage, weeks before any data is collected, because the chosen method cannot produce a measurable relationship with enough range to analyse.

Knowledge Park itself is an education free zone off Al Sufouh Road, holding university campuses and training institutes rather than homes, so families searching for a physics tutor near it live in Al Sufouh, Media City, Barsha Heights, The Greens or the Marina towers. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai; a tutor attending a UAE address is a service we run only in India. For a subject this narrow that is an advantage: the number of people in this emirate who have taught the fields theme at Higher Level is small, and it does not overlap much with the number free to drive to Barsha Heights at 5pm.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Physics does not begin in Year 12, and what a student can manage at Higher Level is largely set by the mathematics they bring. These are the stages a Knowledge Park family is usually planning across.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5

Middle Years Programme sciences

Assessed against four criteria - knowing and understanding, inquiring and designing, processing and evaluating, and reflecting on the impacts of science - each on a 1 to 8 scale. The inquiring and designing criterion is the direct ancestor of the Diploma investigation, so a student who scored poorly there will struggle with investigation design two years later unless it is addressed deliberately.

Several schools within reach of Al Sufouh run the Middle Years Programme before the Diploma. The criterion scores are more informative than the overall grade for predicting physics readiness: a strong score in knowing and understanding with a weak one in processing and evaluating points at exactly the data-handling gap that Paper 1B and the investigation expose.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

IGCSE physics as the other entry route

Most students entering Diploma physics in this catchment come from Cambridge 0625 or Pearson 4PH1 rather than from the Middle Years Programme. Extended or Higher tier is effectively a prerequisite. Students who took combined or coordinated science instead of separate physics arrive with roughly half the content coverage, and the first term of Standard Level physics closes that gap at speed.

British-curriculum schools around Al Barsha and The Greens send a steady flow of students into Diploma sciences elsewhere in the city, so a curriculum change at sixteen is common here. The practical check is whether the student did separate physics and whether they took Additional Mathematics, because the second predicts Higher Level survival better than the physics grade does.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme physics

Two years at Higher or Standard Level, sat in the May session that UAE schools use, with a November session also available. The scientific investigation is designed and carried out in Year 12 and written up early in Year 13. Higher Level adds depth across all five themes rather than extra topics at the end, which is why a late switch down from Higher to Standard is cleaner than a switch up.

Physics at Higher Level is a common requirement for engineering and some medical and architectural routes, and it is frequently paired with Analysis and Approaches. Check each target university's own published entry page, because requirements are set course by course and are revised between admission cycles rather than following a general rule.

CPAges 18+ · University entry

After the Diploma: what the physics grade opens

Engineering faculties commonly expect Higher Level physics, often with Higher Level mathematics alongside. The pairing is the real requirement rather than the physics grade alone, and students who take Higher Level physics with Standard Level Applications and Interpretation sometimes find the combination closes doors they assumed were open. That is worth checking in Year 12, not Year 13.

No IB points threshold for UAE Ministry of Education equivalency has been verified from the Ministry's own pages, so no figure appears here. The British-track rules are sourced; the IB figure is not. Check moe.gov.ae or the emirate's attestation authority, and treat equivalency as separate from any university's academic offer.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Physics rarely fails alone. These are the subjects Knowledge Park families most often ask about alongside it, with the component that usually decides the grade named.

Physics

HL and SL

Five themes, two papers and a scientific investigation. Fields and circuits are the reliable mark drains at both levels, and the data-analysis section of Paper 1 is where students who were never taught uncertainties lose marks they could have had.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The subject that most often determines a physics grade. Rearranging an equation under time pressure, handling logarithms and reading a gradient are maths skills examined inside physics questions. Fixing algebraic fluency usually lifts both grades.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

A common pairing with Standard Level physics and an awkward one with Higher Level, because the algebraic density of Higher Level physics assumes more manipulation practice than this course provides. Worth checking against university requirements early.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Shares the investigation structure and the uncertainty work, so skills transfer directly between the two. Energetics and kinetics draw on the same graph-reading ability that physics tests, which makes joint support unusually efficient.

Computer Science

HL and SL

Popular in this catchment, where many parents work in technology roles around the free zone. Algorithmic thinking and systematic debugging transfer into physics problem solving, particularly on multi-step questions where the method has to be planned before anything is calculated.

Design Technology

HL and SL

Overlaps with physics on materials, forces and energy, and its coursework culture makes students noticeably better at investigation design. Students taking both often produce their strongest investigation in physics because of the transfer.

Biology

HL and SL

Shares the sciences investigation criteria and the statistics. A student who has learned standard deviation and error bars properly for one subject collects marks in the other, which is worth knowing when deciding where tutoring hours go.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

The natural sciences are an area of knowledge, and physics students frequently write their strongest Theory of Knowledge work on measurement, models and the limits of observation. Support here is on argument structure and the student's own examples only.

Extended Essay in physics

Core

A 4,000-word independent research piece. Physics essays fail most often on a research question that cannot be answered with the equipment available, which is the same design failure that costs marks in the investigation.

Arabic as a First or Additional Language

Both pathways

Arabic is mandatory in all Dubai private schools whatever the licensed curriculum, and KHDA requires separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students because expectations and the language of instruction differ. Support has to match the pathway the school has placed the student in.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways Diploma physics support is usually run in this catchment, all delivered one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

Weekly theme support

One session a week following the school's own sequence through the five themes, consolidating what was taught that week rather than running ahead of it. Physics content compounds, so a theme left half-understood in Year 12 reappears as a weakness in Year 13, which is why catching it in the term it is taught is worth more than revising it later.

  • Tracks the school's sequence through themes A to E
  • Catches a weak theme in the term it is taught
  • Builds algebraic rearrangement habits alongside the physics
  • Lowest cost per hour of the three options

Investigation design block

Three or four sessions early in the investigation, before data collection, because that is where most of the twenty-four marks are won or lost. The tutor interrogates the research question, the variable control and whether the method can produce a measurable relationship with enough range. The design, the data and the writing stay the student's own throughout.

  • Research question tested for feasibility before any work is invested
  • Variable control and range checked against the equipment actually available
  • Criteria read against the student's own draft, never rewritten
  • Timed to the school's internal deadline, not the IB's

Data and uncertainty intensive

A short run focused entirely on the data-analysis section of Paper 1 and the evaluation criterion of the investigation: uncertainties, error propagation, gradient and intercept interpretation, and what a graph with error bars is actually saying. Almost no student is taught this explicitly, which makes it the highest-yield block available in the subject.

  • Absolute, fractional and percentage uncertainty treated as one system
  • Gradient and intercept read for physical meaning, not just value
  • Error bars and lines of best and worst fit drawn by hand
  • Past Paper 1B sections sat to time and marked strictly

01

The five themes and what each paper actually asks for

The current physics guide runs on five themes rather than a core-plus-options structure, and the Paper 3 that older revision guides discuss no longer exists. That is worth stating plainly, because material written for the previous guide is still sold and still recommended in parent groups, and a student revising from it will spend hours on content that is not examined while missing content that is.

Paper 1 carries 36 per cent and has two parts. The first is multiple choice, and it rewards speed, confident elimination and a willingness to move on - the single commonest error is spending four minutes on one item and losing three later ones to the clock. The second part is data analysis, and it is a different examination altogether: graphs, gradients, uncertainties and the physical interpretation of a line. Students who treat Paper 1 as one thing prepare badly for both halves.

Paper 2 carries 44 per cent and is extended response. This is where command terms decide the band. 'State' wants one line. 'Describe' wants what happens. 'Explain' wants why, in causal steps, and an explanation delivered as a description sits in the lower band however accurate it is. 'Compare' wants both sides in the same sentence structure, not two separate paragraphs. These are learnable in about three sessions and they are worth more marks than any single theme.

The table sets the components against what each demands and where marks are typically lost. It is worth reading alongside a marked script: if the marks went in Paper 1B, the fix is uncertainty work, and if they went in Paper 2 extended responses, the fix is command-term discipline. Those two plans share almost nothing, which is why diagnosing before buying hours matters.

Where physics marks drain away, theme by theme

Mark loss in physics is theme-specific in a way that makes planning straightforward once a marked script exists. Fields is the reliable worst case at both levels: students confuse field strength with potential, lose signs on work done, and cannot explain why a quantity is negative. The fix is conceptual rather than procedural, and it takes two or three sessions on definitions and sign conventions before any question practice is worthwhile.

Circuits within the fields theme is the second drain and it fails differently - students know the rules but cannot apply them to an unfamiliar network, because they learned worked examples rather than the method of reduction. Wave behaviour fails on superposition and on the difference between path difference and phase difference. The particulate nature of matter fails on the distinction between heat, temperature and internal energy, which sounds like vocabulary and is actually the whole topic.

Nuclear and quantum physics fails last in the course and least in the examination, because it is taught close to the papers and revised while fresh. Space, time and motion fails early and then stops, because its content gets re-used constantly. That pattern has a practical consequence: a Year 12 physics problem is usually a motion or matter problem, and a Year 13 physics problem is usually a fields problem, so the same student needs different support in different years.

Underneath all of it sits algebra. A student who cannot rearrange an equation with three terms under time pressure will lose marks in every theme, and will interpret that as being bad at physics. Testing this is simple: give the student an unfamiliar formula and ask them to make a given symbol the subject, with no physics attached. If that is slow or uncertain, the first few sessions are maths sessions, and they will show up as a physics improvement.

The scientific investigation: twenty-four marks and where they are really won

The investigation carries twenty per cent of the physics grade and is marked out of twenty-four across four criteria: research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation, six marks each. Almost no page in this market names one of them. The practical consequence of the mark split is that two of the four criteria - conclusion and evaluation - are about what the student says once the data exists, and those twelve marks are frequently the ones a strong experimentalist leaves behind.

Research design is where the damage is done, though, and it is done early. A method that cannot generate a measurable relationship across a decent range will cap every criterion that follows, because the data will not support analysis and the conclusion will be weak by necessity. The questions worth asking before anything is set up are simple: what exactly is being varied, over what range, what is being held constant and how, and how many repeats are realistic in the laboratory time available. A method that survives those four questions will usually produce a workable investigation.

Data analysis rewards processed data rather than raw data - uncertainties propagated, a graph with error bars, a gradient with its own uncertainty. The conclusion criterion asks the student to state what the data supports and compare it against accepted physics with a source. The evaluation criterion asks for specific, prioritised weaknesses and realistic improvements, and this is where generic phrases about human error score nothing. A weakness worth marks is quantified and tied to the data.

A tutor's role here has a clear boundary. We test the research question, interrogate variable control, explain what each criterion rewards, and give feedback on a draft the student has written. The design, the data, the analysis and the words are the student's own, and the school signs an authentication saying so. A provider offering to produce an investigation is transferring the entire risk to the candidate, who is the only person the board can sanction.

Uncertainties: the skill nobody teaches and Paper 1B keeps testing

  • Add absolute uncertainties when adding or subtracting quantities
  • Add percentage uncertainties when multiplying or dividing
  • Multiply the percentage uncertainty by the power when raising to a power
  • A gradient uncertainty needs lines of best and worst fit, so draw both
  • Read the intercept for physical meaning, not just as a number
  • Practise on paper rather than in a spreadsheet, because the paper tests the mechanics

Uncertainty handling is the clearest example of a skill that is examined repeatedly and taught almost nowhere systematically. Students pick up fragments - add absolute uncertainties when adding quantities, add percentages when multiplying - without ever seeing the system behind them, so under time pressure they guess. It appears in the data-analysis section of Paper 1 and in the data analysis and evaluation criteria of the investigation, which between them account for a substantial share of the grade.

The system is small enough to teach in two sessions. Absolute uncertainty is the size of the doubt in the same units as the measurement. Fractional and percentage uncertainty are that doubt relative to the measurement, which is what makes different measurements comparable. Adding or subtracting quantities adds absolute uncertainties; multiplying or dividing adds percentage uncertainties; raising to a power multiplies the percentage uncertainty by that power. That last rule is the one most consistently missed.

Graph work is the other half. A gradient has an uncertainty, found from lines of best and worst fit, and a student who draws one line has no way to produce it. An intercept carries physical meaning that is often the point of the question. Error bars are drawn from the uncertainty in the measurement rather than chosen for appearance. Doing this by hand, on paper, a few times is what makes it stick; doing it in a spreadsheet hides the mechanics that the examination asks about.

The reason this is worth prioritising is arithmetic rather than pedagogy. It is a small, closed body of technique that recurs in two components, and it is not entangled with any particular theme, so it can be fixed in isolation at any point in the two years. For a student eight weeks from the papers, it is usually the highest-yield block available, and it is almost never the thing they came asking for.

05

Higher against Standard Level: what the extra depth actually demands

  • Higher Level adds depth across all five themes, not extra topics at the end
  • Moving down from Higher to Standard mid-course is manageable; moving up usually is not
  • The maths pairing is often the real constraint, not the physics
  • The investigation uses the same twenty-four-mark scheme at both levels
  • Topic choice at Higher Level has to merit the level, which makes it worth stress-testing

Higher Level physics is not Standard Level with additional topics at the end. The current guide adds depth across all five themes, which changes what the whole two years feels like rather than adding a block that can be dropped. That has a practical consequence families should know early: moving down from Higher to Standard mid-course is usually manageable, while moving up is not, because the additional depth was embedded in teaching the student did not receive.

The algebraic density is the real difference. Higher Level questions chain more steps together, use logarithms and exponentials more freely, and expect a student to carry symbolic expressions rather than substitute numbers at the first opportunity. A student comfortable with Analysis and Approaches handles this; a student taking Applications and Interpretation at Standard Level alongside Higher Level physics often finds the maths, not the physics, is the binding constraint. Checking that pairing in Year 12 is worth the ten minutes it takes.

The investigation is marked on the same twenty-four-mark scheme at both levels, which surprises families. A Higher Level student is not given a harder criterion set; they are expected to design something that genuinely merits the level, and markers do notice when a Higher Level investigation measures something trivial. That means topic choice at Higher Level carries more weight than at Standard, and it is the part of the investigation a tutor can most legitimately help stress-test.

For a student weighing the two, the useful question is not whether they can cope with the content but whether they can cope with the content alongside everything else on a six-subject timetable. Higher Level physics taken with Higher Level mathematics and a Higher Level third subject is a genuinely heavy load, and the grade that suffers is rarely the one the student expects. Deciding that honestly in Year 12 beats discovering it in the spring of Year 13.

06

What a parent can actually verify about a physics tutor

Rates in this market are published inconsistently and credentials are published loosely, so it is worth separating what can be checked from what cannot. Published online rates in Dubai start at roughly AED 33 to 52 an hour with Tutopiya and AED 45 to 65 with EdFlik, which generally means a university student. Unitors publishes IB tuition from AED 200 an hour and IGCSE from AED 150. TutorChase quotes around AED 270 for specialist work, Bestimate's specialist band runs AED 200 to 450 and above, and BartyED sits at around AED 650 for examiner-led sessions. In-home visiting rates run roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour with travel inside the price.

The permit is checkable and most parents never ask. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated: the private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, it is granted free of charge for two years through MoHRE, and eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged fifteen to eighteen. Individuals tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule is published, so no figure appears here.

What is not checkable is most of what gets advertised. An examiner claim cannot be verified by a parent, and we do not describe tutors as IB or Cambridge examiners for individuals whose current status cannot be evidenced. A star rating that a provider published about itself is not evidence either: competitor pages in this market show ratings of 4.92 from 480 reviews and 4.93 from 850 reviews on the same page, and one shows five out of five from twenty reviews next to a student-numbers claim in the thousands. Figures that contradict themselves are the signal.

So the verifiable tests are these. Ask whether the tutor holds the MoHRE private tuition permit. Ask which subject guide edition they teach from, because the answer separates current knowledge from outdated. Ask them to explain uncertainty propagation in the trial lesson. And ask what happens if the match does not work. IB Gram publishes no rate card on this page, because a number quoted without knowing the level and frequency is not information; the trial lesson and consultation are free.

Practical work, online delivery and the limits worth naming

  • Apparatus handling belongs in the school laboratory and cannot be taught over video
  • Investigation design, data processing and uncertainty work are analysis, and work well on a shared screen
  • Paper 1B tests the analysis rather than the dexterity
  • A student who needs a person present to stay on task is a real limit, not an objection to answer
  • Saved whiteboards, no travel losses and a national tutor pool are the concrete gains

Physics is the subject where online delivery has a genuine limit, and pretending otherwise would be dishonest. Apparatus cannot be handled together. A student cannot be shown how to clamp a pendulum properly, how a micrometer feels when it is over-tightened, or why a particular ammeter reading is drifting, on a video call. Those are real skills and they are learned in the school laboratory, which is where they belong.

What can be done over video is most of what the examination actually assesses about practical work. The design of an investigation is a thinking task. The processing of data, the propagation of uncertainty, the drawing and interpretation of graphs, the evaluation of a method - all of that is analysis, and analysis is better on a shared screen than on a bench, because the work is visible, annotated and saved for the student to return to. Paper 1B tests the analysis, not the dexterity.

IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai; a tutor attending a student's address is a service we run only in India. So the comparison is not between our online lessons and our in-home lessons, but between a specialist on a screen and a generalist in the room. For a Higher Level fields problem or an investigation design question, that comparison favours the specialist. For a fourteen-year-old who needs a person present to stay on task, it may not, and that is worth saying plainly rather than selling around.

The practical gains of video delivery are specific rather than rhetorical. The whiteboard is saved and revisited, which matters in a subject where a derivation needs re-reading. Two siblings can be taught in one evening without a second journey. No session is lost to Sheikh Zayed Road at 5pm, which in this catchment is the difference between thirty sessions a year and twenty-four. And the tutor is chosen for having taught the theme rather than for living in Al Barsha.

08

Academic honesty, materials and who is allowed to teach

  • The design, the data, the analysis and the words in the investigation must be the student's own
  • A tutor interrogates, models on different data, and gives feedback on the student's draft
  • The school's authentication puts the risk on the candidate rather than the helper
  • Board materials are referenced and linked, never reproduced or supplied
  • Exact IB session dates come from the school's Diploma coordinator or ibo.org, not from us

The investigation is coursework, which makes it the point where academic honesty is tested in physics. The boundary is clear. A tutor may teach the content, explain what each criterion rewards, interrogate a research question, model an analysis technique on different data, and give feedback on a draft the student has written. A tutor may not design the experiment, produce the data, write the analysis or draft the text.

The reason this matters is where the consequence falls. The school signs an authentication that the work is the candidate's own, and if that is untrue the sanction lands on the student, not on whoever helped. One site ranking in this market sells completed internal assessments at a published price; that transaction transfers the whole risk onto a sixteen-year-old. Any provider willing to do the work for your child has told you something about how they treat your child's interests.

Materials follow the same logic. We reference the IB physics subject guide, past papers and mark schemes, cite them and point to the official source. We do not reproduce them or distribute them as downloads, because they are the board's copyright and, in the case of unreleased material, a malpractice exposure in themselves. We also do not publish IB session or results dates, because ibo.org blocks automated access and nothing in this project has been confirmed from the IB itself - the May session is the one UAE schools sit, and exact dates come from the school's Diploma coordinator.

There is a question about who teaches, too. Abu Dhabi's ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from giving paid private tuition to students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE private tuition permit carries a code of conduct barring the same arrangement. Those are press-reported positions and should be verified against the current policy document, but the principle travels across the UAE: paying your child's own classroom teacher privately is the arrangement most likely to put that teacher in breach.

Where we tutor

The communities this search comes from

Knowledge Park holds campuses rather than villas, so this catchment spreads across the areas within roughly fifteen minutes of Al Sufouh Road. Each note is about when a physics session can realistically run.

Al Sufouh

The district the free zone sits inside, running down to the beach. School days ending in the early afternoon make a 4.30pm physics slot realistic, which matters for a subject where tired students make arithmetic errors rather than conceptual ones.

Dubai Media City and Barsha Heights

The nearest residential density to the free zone. Parents working here often finish after 6pm, so a 7.30pm session is the one that holds through a whole term rather than being moved every third week.

The Greens and The Views

Low-rise apartments towards Sheikh Zayed Road, feeding schools in Al Barsha and Emirates Hills. Al Khail Road congestion between 3pm and 5pm is what makes a fixed in-person appointment unreliable here.

Dubai Marina and JBR

Tower living with long internal travel times. Households running two Diploma students frequently take back-to-back online sessions on one evening, which is not possible with a visiting tutor.

Jumeirah Lakes Towers

Across Sheikh Zayed Road and a separate free zone, with a sizeable Diploma cohort attending schools inland. The interchange at 4pm is the practical argument against any appointment that requires a drive.

Al Barsha and Al Barsha South

The school belt for this catchment, with several large international schools running the full Diploma. Finishes between 2.30pm and 3.30pm leave a workable window before the evening homework block.

Emirates Hills, The Springs, The Meadows and The Lakes

Villa communities inland of Al Khail Road. Internal roads are long enough that a visiting tutor's travel time is spent inside the community, and it is charged at the lesson rate.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Name the level and send a marked paper

Higher or Standard, and a marked script rather than a predicted grade. The script tells us whether marks went in Paper 1B, in Paper 2 extended responses, or to algebra, and those three need different plans that share almost nothing.

  2. 02

    Test the algebra separately

We give the student an unfamiliar formula and ask them to make a given symbol the subject, with no physics attached. If that is slow, the first two sessions are maths sessions - and they show up as a physics improvement rather than a maths one.

  3. 03

A free trial on a live topic

The tutor teaches whatever is currently stuck, at the correct level. Ask them to explain uncertainty propagation during it; how that lands tells you more than any credential list, and there is nothing to unwind if the pairing is wrong.

  4. 04

Deal with the investigation before data collection

If the investigation is live, we look at the research question and the variable control first. Most of the twenty-four marks are decided at the design stage, and a method stress-tested in week one saves a rescue attempt in week six.

  5. 05

Fix a slot that fits the school day

Schools in this catchment finish between 2.30pm and 3.30pm. A 4.30pm start suits a student who comes straight home; 7.30pm suits households where a parent in Media City works late. Physics in particular suffers when the student is tired, because errors become arithmetic rather than conceptual.

  6. 06

    Review against whole papers

Every few weeks a timed paper marked strictly, with lost marks categorised by component and cause. That tells you whether to continue, change tutor or stop, which is a harder and more useful measure than asking how the sessions feel.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Diagnosis before hours

Physics fails in four separable ways - algebra, graphs, written reasoning and investigation design. We work out which one it is from a marked script before selling any sessions, because the four plans share almost no content.

Uncertainty work taught as a system

Absolute, fractional and percentage uncertainty, propagation rules, and gradient uncertainty from lines of best and worst fit. It is examined in two components and taught systematically almost nowhere, which makes it the highest-yield block in the subject.

Current guide, not the previous one

Five themes, no options, no Paper 3. Revision material written for the earlier guide is still in circulation, and a student working from it spends hours on content that is no longer examined.

The pool is national, not local

Live video widens the match from tutors who can reach Al Sufouh by 5pm to everyone who has taught the fields theme at Higher Level. For a narrow requirement that is the whole difference.

Honest about the practical limit

Apparatus handling belongs in the school laboratory and we say so. What we do over video is the analysis, the design thinking and the evaluation, which is what the papers actually assess about practical work.

Clear academic-honesty boundary

We interrogate a research question and give feedback on the student's own draft. We do not design experiments, produce data or write text, and we explain why that protects the candidate rather than limiting the help.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai Knowledge Park: your questions answered

Is there an IB physics tutor near Dubai Knowledge Park who has taught the fields theme at Higher Level?+

Some, but not many. Plenty of competent science tutors live within fifteen minutes of Al Sufouh; the number who have taught Higher Level fields and circuits on the current guide is small across the whole emirate. Require them also to be free at your preferred hour and willing to drive to Barsha Heights or The Greens at 5pm, and the overlap gets very thin. Delivering over live video takes geography out of the match, which is why we work this way rather than by home visit.

My daughter understands the physics but her marks keep dropping. What is going on?+

Usually one of three things, and a marked script separates them. If marks went on questions where an equation had to be rearranged, it is an algebra problem wearing physics clothing. If they went in the data-analysis section of Paper 1, it is uncertainties and graph interpretation, which are rarely taught systematically. If they went on extended responses in Paper 2, it is command terms - an explanation delivered as a description sits in the lower band however accurate it is. Each needs a different plan.

Does the current physics course still have Paper 3 and the options?+

No. The current subject guide runs on five themes - space, time and motion; the particulate nature of matter; wave behaviour; fields; and nuclear and quantum physics - and the options and Paper 3 are gone. Assessment is Paper 1, which splits into multiple choice and data analysis and carries 36 per cent, Paper 2 at 44 per cent, and the scientific investigation at 20 per cent. Check the edition of any revision guide you buy, because material written for the earlier structure is still widely sold.

How are the twenty-four investigation marks split in Diploma physics?+

Four criteria at six marks each: research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation. Research design is where the damage is done, because a method that cannot produce a measurable relationship across a usable range caps everything downstream. Conclusion and evaluation together carry twelve marks and are about what the student says once the data exists, which is where strong experimentalists most often leave marks behind. Generic statements about human error score nothing in evaluation; a quantified, prioritised weakness does.

Why does nobody seem to teach uncertainties properly?+

Because it falls between topics, so no single lesson owns it, and students collect fragments instead of the system. The system is small: add absolute uncertainties when adding or subtracting, add percentage uncertainties when multiplying or dividing, and multiply the percentage by the power when raising to a power. Gradient uncertainty needs lines of best and worst fit, so one line is never enough. It appears in Paper 1B and in two investigation criteria, which makes two sessions on it unusually good value.

Can online physics tutoring work when so much of the subject is practical?+

For the parts the papers assess, yes. Apparatus handling cannot be taught over video and belongs in the school laboratory, and we say so rather than claiming otherwise. What the examination actually tests about practical work is analysis: designing an investigation, processing data, propagating uncertainty, drawing and reading graphs, evaluating a method. All of that works better on a shared screen, because the work is visible, annotated and saved for the student to return to later.

Should my son take physics at Higher Level if his maths is Applications and Interpretation?+

It is a pairing worth examining rather than assuming. Higher Level physics chains more algebraic steps, uses logarithms and exponentials more freely, and expects symbolic expressions to be carried rather than substituted early. Applications and Interpretation provides less of that manipulation practice than Analysis and Approaches does, so the maths often becomes the binding constraint rather than the physics. Check the target university requirements too, because engineering faculties frequently expect both subjects at Higher Level and the pairing is the real requirement.

My child moved from combined science to Diploma physics. How big is that gap?+

Material. A student who took combined or coordinated science rather than separate physics at IGCSE arrives with roughly half the content coverage, and the first term of Standard Level physics closes that at speed while also introducing new material. It is recoverable with a term of targeted support on motion, forces and energy, taken alongside the course rather than instead of it. The bigger predictor of how it goes is the mathematics the student brings, not the science grade they arrived with.

Which theme is worth spending money on if we can only afford a few sessions?+

Fields, including circuits, at either level - it is the reliable worst case. Students confuse field strength with potential, lose signs on work done, and cannot reduce an unfamiliar network because they learned worked examples rather than a method. Three or four sessions there usually shows up in the next timed paper. If the marked script instead shows losses in the data-analysis section, spend the money on uncertainties and graphs, which is a smaller body of technique and faster to fix.

How much does a specialist physics tutor cost in Dubai, and what should we expect to pay monthly?+

Published rates in this city run from roughly AED 33 to 65 an hour at the budget end, which usually means a university student, through AED 150 to 300 for a qualified subject tutor online, up to AED 200 to 450 and above for specialist work and around AED 650 for examiner-led sessions. Monthly, a weekly session at the specialist end sits around AED 1,000 to 2,000. Those are other providers' published figures, not ours. Our trial lesson and consultation are free.

How can I check whether a physics tutor is legally allowed to teach here?+

Ask whether they hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. It is granted free of charge for two years, and eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged fifteen to eighteen. Individuals tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published. Any provider suggesting private tutoring is unregulated in the UAE is wrong, and that is worth noticing.

Can a tutor look at the investigation before my son starts collecting data?+

That is the single most useful time to involve one. Most of the twenty-four marks are decided at the design stage: whether the research question is answerable, whether the independent variable can be varied across a usable range, whether the controls are real, and whether enough repeats fit the laboratory time available. A method stress-tested in week one avoids a rescue attempt in week six. The design, the data and the writing remain the student's own throughout, which is both required and the reason the marks hold.

When do Dubai students sit IB physics papers, and where do I get the exact dates?+

Schools in the UAE sit the May session, with a November session also available. We do not publish IB examination or results dates on these pages, because ibo.org blocks automated access and no date in this project has been confirmed from the IB itself. Your school's Diploma coordinator holds the current dates, including the internal deadline for the investigation, which usually sits well ahead of the IB's own submission window and is the one that actually governs your child's term.

What happens if no physics specialist is free at the level we need?+

We tell you rather than filling the slot with a generalist. Some requirements are genuinely thin - Higher Level fields work at short notice, or investigation design help in the two weeks before a school deadline. When that happens you get three straight answers: how long a match realistically takes, whether a closely related specialist can cover part of the need, and whether the school's own department is the better route for now. No competitor page in this market discloses a coverage limit at all.

Send the marked script and the investigation deadline

If you are looking for an IB physics tutor in Dubai Knowledge Park, two things make the first conversation useful. The first is a marked paper, which tells us whether the marks went to algebra, to graphs and uncertainties, or to command terms in extended responses. The second is the school's internal deadline for the scientific investigation, because twenty per cent of the grade is settled there and the design stage is where most of it is decided. With those two facts the plan writes itself, and the trial lesson becomes a test of the match rather than an introduction.
