IGCSE Science Tutor in Dubai Knowledge Park

An IGCSE science tutor in Dubai Knowledge Park is usually needed because one of three sciences is dragging the others down, or because a double-award entry has quietly closed a post-16 door nobody checked. This page works through the syllabus codes, the paper structures, the alternative-to-practical technique and the six-mark questions where the grade is actually decided. Lessons are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, so Al Sufouh Road at 4pm never cancels a session.

IB & IGCSE in Dubai Knowledge Park

Three sciences, two award structures, and one decision that caps everything

The first thing to establish when a family searches for an IGCSE science tutor in Dubai Knowledge Park is which award structure the student is on. Triple award means three separate qualifications - biology, chemistry and physics, each with its own syllabus code and its own grade. Double award, Cambridge Co-ordinated Sciences 0654 or Pearson Science Double Award, means all three disciplines at reduced depth producing two grades. Single award produces one. Those are different qualifications with different post-16 consequences, and the choice was usually made in Year 9.

That decision is the one worth checking before any tutoring money is spent, because it sets a ceiling nothing else can lift. A Diploma Higher Level science or an A Level science normally expects the separate subject at IGCSE, and departments in this belt are frequently reluctant to accept a double-award student into Higher Level chemistry or physics. A student who intends to apply for medicine, engineering or any health-science route and who is sitting double award has a problem that is structural rather than academic.

Once the award structure is settled, the three sciences need separating rather than treating as one. Biology fails on content volume and on specification vocabulary - a correct answer in everyday words frequently scores nothing because the mark scheme lists the term. Chemistry fails on mole calculations and on the qualitative analysis tables, with organic taught last and revised least. Physics fails on electricity and on anything requiring an equation to be rearranged under time pressure, which is a maths weakness presenting as a physics grade.

There is a fourth component families almost never plan for. Cambridge assesses practical skills either through a practical test or through an alternative-to-practical written paper, depending on the syllabus and the centre, and Pearson assesses practical skills within the written papers in several subjects. The written practical component is a writing skill as much as a science one - describing a method precisely, identifying variables, reading apparatus to the right precision - and it is marked generously for students who have practised it and harshly for those who have not.

Knowledge Park itself is an education free zone off Al Sufouh Road, with university campuses and training institutes rather than homes, so families running this search live in Al Sufouh, Media City, Barsha Heights, The Greens or the Marina towers. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai; a tutor attending a UAE address is a service we run only in India. For three sciences that matters in a specific way: a single visiting tutor rarely covers all three well, while an online match can put a chemistry specialist and a physics specialist on the same timetable without anyone driving anywhere.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

The science decision made at fifteen shapes everything after it. These are the stages a Knowledge Park family is planning across, and what each one actually requires.

KS3Ages 11-14 · Years 7-9

Key Stage 3 science, Years 7 to 9

Three years of combined science teaching, ending in the award decision. Schools base that recommendation on set placement and internal assessment, and a student placed in a middle science set in Year 8 on patchy performance can find triple award quietly unavailable two years later. Nothing here is externally examined, so weak quantitative work travels undetected into Year 10.

Schools near Al Sufouh and Al Barsha confirm the triple or double award decision in the spring of Year 9. A term of focused work on proportion, unit handling and graph reading in Year 8 or 9 is a far cheaper intervention than arguing for a triple-award place in Year 10, and it is the piece of advice families in this belt most often wish they had acted on earlier.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

IGCSE sciences, Years 10 and 11

Two years, with triple award producing three grades from three syllabuses and double award producing two from one. Each separate science has its own papers at Core and Extended tier, plus a practical component assessed as a practical test or as a written alternative. The volume of content in triple award is the single commonest reason strong students report feeling overloaded in Year 11.

For UAE Ministry of Education equivalency on the British track, a student needs five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade no lower than E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic Education not counted among the five. Science grades usually form part of that five. One competing tutoring site tells UAE parents six subjects are required; verify the rule on the Ministry's own pages.

AS/A2Ages 16-18 · Years 12-13

A Level sciences, Years 12 and 13

Entry normally requires the separate science at Extended or Higher tier, frequently at grade 7 or above. Departments in this belt are often unwilling to admit double-award students to A Level chemistry or physics, because the content coverage is materially thinner. The gap is quantitative and practical rather than conceptual, which is why a bridging summer makes a measurable difference.

On the British track, equivalency asks for one accredited Advanced Level subject at grade E or above, or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level, on top of the five IGCSE passes. That is a low bar and should not be confused with what a competitive science degree expects. Keep the equivalency target and the university target separate when planning a Year 11 subject list.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma sciences, Years 12 and 13

The other post-16 route in this belt. Higher Level biology, chemistry and physics all assume separate-science preparation, and a double-award student entering Higher Level chemistry meets the mole concept at Diploma depth having used it lightly. Diploma sciences also carry a scientific investigation worth a fifth of the grade, which rewards students who have done real practical work.

Dubai's 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools - four UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate - creating 16,846 new places. For a Year 10 family in this belt that widens the post-16 field, which makes the triple-award decision more consequential rather than less, because both post-16 routes expect the separate sciences.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the science syllabuses and the subjects immediately around them that Knowledge Park families ask about, with the component that usually decides the grade named.

Biology (Cambridge 0610 / Pearson 4BI1)

Core and Extended

Content volume is the difficulty rather than conceptual depth. Extended-response questions on transport in plants, homeostasis and inheritance need the specification's own vocabulary - a correct answer in everyday words often scores nothing because the mark scheme lists the term.

Chemistry (Cambridge 0620 / Pearson 4CH1)

Core and Extended

Mole calculations and the qualitative analysis tables are the two reliable mark losers. Organic is taught last and revised least. A student who can balance equations but cannot convert between moles, mass and concentration loses marks on every paper rather than in one topic.

Physics (Cambridge 0625 / Pearson 4PH1)

Core and Extended

Electricity and magnetism drain the most marks at Extended tier, followed by anything requiring a gradient to be interpreted rather than calculated. Equation rearrangement under time pressure is the underlying weakness and it is a maths skill.

Co-ordinated Sciences, Double Award (Cambridge 0654)

Core and Extended

All three disciplines at reduced depth, producing two grades. The route many students take when the timetable cannot fit three separate sciences. It narrows post-16 options in ways families often discover only in the Year 11 A Level or Diploma conversation.

Combined Science, Single Award (Cambridge 0653)

Core and Extended

One grade covering all three disciplines at the lowest content volume of the three structures. Suitable where science is not a post-16 destination, and a genuine obstacle where it is. Worth confirming against intended A Level or Diploma choices before it is locked in.

Science Double Award (Pearson)

Single tier structure

Pearson's equivalent two-grade route, with practical skills assessed inside the written papers. Question style differs noticeably from Cambridge, so past papers from the wrong board teach technique that will not be rewarded.

Alternative-to-practical and practical test papers

Per syllabus

Cambridge assesses practical skills through a practical test or a written alternative depending on the syllabus and centre. The written version is largely a precision-writing skill: describing method, identifying variables, reading apparatus to the correct resolution.

Mathematics (Cambridge 0580 / Pearson 4MA1)

Core and Extended

The subject that silently decides science grades. Proportion, rearrangement, standard form and graph work are examined inside every science paper. A student losing marks in all three sciences usually has one maths problem rather than three science problems.

Additional Mathematics (Cambridge 0606)

Single tier

Taken alongside by students heading for A Level or Diploma sciences. It brings calculus and algebraic fluency forward a year, which makes the post-16 science transition noticeably easier, and it is frequently taught in fewer hours than the content requires.

Arabic as a First or Additional Language

Both pathways

Arabic is mandatory in all Dubai private schools whatever the licensed curriculum, and KHDA requires separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students because expectations and the language of instruction differ. Support must match the pathway the school has placed the student in.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways IGCSE science support runs for families in this catchment, all delivered one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

One science at a time, in sequence

The structure that works best for a triple-award student whose report shows three weak grades. Take the science where marks are cheapest to recover, run a block on it, finish, then move to the next. Three sciences in parallel means six hours of tuition a week on top of a full timetable, and the first thing to stop is the independent practice that makes any of it work.

  • Cheapest-to-recover science first, chosen from marked papers
  • One block finished before the next begins
  • Written report at the end that decides whether the second block is worth buying
  • Keeps independent practice time intact

Two specialists on one timetable

Where two sciences genuinely need attention at once, two different tutors on different evenings works better than one generalist covering both. A chemistry specialist and a physics specialist each explain their own subject better than either explains the other, and with online delivery the second appointment costs no extra travel for anyone.

  • A specialist per subject rather than a generalist across both
  • Different evenings, same hour, no travel overhead
  • Shared view of which maths weakness underlies both
  • Each tutor works to the student's own school sequence

Practical-paper and technique block

A short run on the written practical component and on the six-mark extended-response questions, which together carry a surprising share of the grade and are almost never taught as skills. Precision in describing a method, identifying variables, reading apparatus, and structuring a long answer are learnable in a few sessions and transfer across all three sciences.

  • Method description practised and marked against the official scheme
  • Variables, control and precision treated as a writing discipline
  • Six-mark question structure taught explicitly
  • Technique transfers across biology, chemistry and physics at once

01

Triple award against double award: what the entry actually caps

This is the decision that matters most and gets examined least. Triple award means three separate syllabuses with three separate grades: biology, chemistry and physics. Double award - Cambridge Co-ordinated Sciences 0654 or Pearson's Science Double Award - covers all three disciplines at reduced depth and produces two grades. Single award produces one. The content coverage differs substantially, and so does what each one opens at sixteen.

The consequence lands at post-16 entry. A Level chemistry and physics departments, and Diploma Higher Level sciences, generally expect the separate subject, and many in this belt are reluctant to admit double-award students at all. Where they do, the student arrives with materially thinner content coverage and less practical experience, and the first term closes that gap at speed while also teaching new material. A student aiming at medicine, dentistry, pharmacy or engineering with double award has a structural problem rather than an academic one.

The decision can still be revisited, and the window is Year 10 into very early Year 11. It moves on evidence rather than argument: a timed separate-science paper sat cold, marked strictly, with a topic-level breakdown of the gap and a realistic estimate of the weeks needed to close it. Schools respond to that far better than to parental conviction, and timetabling constraints mean the request has to be made while a place can still be created.

If the award structure is right for the student, that is worth hearing too. A secure pair of strong double-award grades serves a student heading for humanities or business far better than three mediocre separate-science grades, and the timetable space freed up can be spent on subjects that actually matter to the application. The table below sets the three structures against each other on the variables that decide the choice.

02

The papers, by syllabus code, and the practical component nobody plans for

Parents in this catchment frequently do not know which board or which papers their child's science departments use, and in a triple-award timetable there can be different answers for different subjects. The syllabus code is the thing to collect: Cambridge 0610, 0620 and 0625 for the separate sciences, 0654 for Co-ordinated Sciences, or the Pearson equivalents 4BI1, 4CH1 and 4PH1. Revision guides, past papers and mark schemes are code-specific, and buying for the wrong one produces work without marks.

Within a Cambridge science syllabus the paper structure is tiered. Core candidates sit one multiple-choice paper and one theory paper; Extended candidates sit the harder versions of both. Then comes the practical component, and this is where centres differ: some enter candidates for the practical test, others for the alternative-to-practical written paper. The two require different preparation, and a student who has prepared for the wrong one has prepared for nothing.

The alternative-to-practical paper is the most under-prepared component in IGCSE science. It asks a student to describe a method precisely, identify independent, dependent and control variables, read apparatus to the correct resolution, spot a flaw in a described procedure, and suggest an improvement. All of that is precision writing applied to science, and the mark schemes are specific about the words that earn marks. Students who have practised it score well; students who assume laboratory experience is enough do not.

Pearson assesses practical skills inside the written papers in several subjects rather than through a separate paper, which changes the preparation but not the underlying skill. For any family considering a period of online schooling or entry as a private candidate, the practical arrangements are the decisive difference between the two boards and should be checked before a move rather than after.

03

Where each science drains marks, and why it is usually not three problems

A report showing three weak science grades looks like three problems and is usually one and a half. The common factor is quantitative: proportion, rearrangement, standard form, unit conversion and graph reading are examined inside all three sciences, and a student weak there loses marks everywhere and concludes they are bad at science. Testing it takes five minutes - hand over an unfamiliar formula and ask for a given symbol to be made the subject, with no science attached.

Beyond that shared weakness, each science has its own signature. Biology loses marks to specification vocabulary: the mark scheme lists the term, and a biologically correct answer in everyday language scores nothing. It also loses marks to content volume, because there is simply more to know than in the other two and revision tends to be broad and shallow. The fix is active recall against the specification itself rather than re-reading notes.

Chemistry loses marks to the mole system and to the qualitative analysis tables, which are a memorisation task that students keep deferring. Organic is taught last and revised least. Physics loses marks to electricity - circuit analysis on an unfamiliar network, where students have learned worked examples instead of a reduction method - and to graph interpretation, where a gradient is calculated correctly and its physical meaning never stated.

The practical consequence is an order of operations. Fix the quantitative weakness first, because it pays in all three subjects at once. Then take the science where the marked paper shows the cheapest marks available. Then the next. A plan that works on all three sciences simultaneously produces six hours of tuition a week, which is more than any Year 11 can absorb alongside a full timetable, and the first casualty is the independent practice that makes tutoring work at all.

Command terms and the six-mark questions, across all three sciences

  • State wants a fact; describe wants a sequence; explain wants causal steps
  • Compare wants both sides against the same criteria, not two paragraphs
  • Suggest invites an untaught but plausible answer with justification
  • Mark your own six-mark answers against the official scheme and count the listed points
  • The skill transfers across all three sciences, which makes it the best value for a triple-award student

The extended-response questions at the end of a science paper carry a disproportionate share of the volatile marks, and they are lost for reasons that have nothing to do with science knowledge. A student who knows the content writes everything they know in the order it occurs to them, and the mark scheme awards points for specific linked statements that may or may not appear. Structure, not content, is what separates two marks from five.

The command terms are a closed list and they behave consistently. 'State' wants a single fact with no elaboration. 'Describe' wants what happens, in sequence. 'Explain' wants why, in causal steps - and an explanation delivered as a description sits in the lower band however accurate it is. 'Compare' wants both sides against the same criteria, ideally in the same sentence. 'Suggest' invites a plausible answer the student has not been taught, with a justification. 'Calculate' requires working. 'Determine' usually means take something from a graph or table first.

Teaching these takes about two sessions and it is the cheapest improvement available in IGCSE science, because it collects marks on content the student already holds. It also transfers completely between biology, chemistry and physics, which makes it unusually efficient for a triple-award student. A single block on command terms and six-mark structure can lift all three grades, which no amount of additional content can do at the same price.

The method is simple and uncomfortable. Write a six-mark answer, mark it against the official scheme without generosity, and count how many of the scheme's listed points actually appear. Most students find they wrote four correct things and scored two, because two of the four were not on the list and the other two were not linked. Doing that five or six times changes how a student reads a long question for good.

05

A past-paper routine when there are three sciences to cover

  • Fewer papers, marked strictly, with the results acted on
  • Categorise every lost mark: content, quantitative, command term, practical, or time
  • Act on the largest bucket, then re-sit and compare the distribution rather than the total
  • Keep the practical paper in the rotation from the start
  • Use the correct board's papers; technique rewarded by one is not rewarded by the other

Three sciences means three sets of past papers, three mark schemes and a practical component, and the commonest failure is doing a little of everything badly. The routine that works treats papers as diagnostic instruments rather than as practice, which means fewer papers, marked more strictly, with the results acted on.

Sit one whole paper per science, to time, with no notes and no mark scheme in reach. Then mark each strictly, and categorise every lost mark into five buckets: content not known, quantitative error, command term misread, practical technique, or ran out of time. The totals matter far less than the distribution. A student losing most marks to quantitative errors across all three sciences has one problem to fix; a student losing them to content in biology and to command terms in physics has two separate ones.

Then rotate deliberately rather than evenly. Spend two weeks on whichever bucket is largest, re-sit a paper, and compare the distribution rather than the total. A student whose quantitative errors have fallen from twelve marks to three has made real progress even if the overall score moved only a little, because the next paper will convert that. Chasing the total instead of the distribution is how months disappear.

Keep the practical paper in the rotation from the start, not at the end. It is the component students most reliably postpone, it is marked on precise wording, and it improves faster than content work because the body of technique is small. Two sessions on method description, variables and apparatus resolution, practised against official schemes, generally recovers more marks per hour than anything else available to a triple-award student.

06

The arithmetic of paying for three sciences

  • One science at a time costs a third of three and usually produces more
  • Budget online rates start around AED 33-65 an hour; qualified tutors are published from AED 150-300
  • Monthly estimates for a weekly hour run roughly AED 240-600 budget, AED 600-1,200 mid, AED 1,000-2,000+ specialist
  • Where two sciences need help at once, two specialists beat one generalist
  • In-home packages run around AED 1,599-1,799 a month against roughly AED 799 online

Three sciences changes the cost conversation, because the obvious plan - a tutor for each - is rarely affordable or advisable. Published market rates in Dubai start at roughly AED 33 to 52 an hour with Tutopiya and AED 45 to 65 with EdFlik at the budget end, which generally means a university student. A qualified subject tutor online is published from around AED 150 to 300, with Unitors listing IGCSE from AED 150. Specialist rates run AED 200 to 450 and above, and in-home one-to-one is quoted at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour with travel inside the price.

Three weekly sessions at the qualified-tutor band is a monthly commitment most families in this belt will not want to sustain for two years, and they should not have to. The sequence approach - one science at a time, chosen from marked papers, finished before the next begins - costs a third as much per month and usually produces more, because the student retains the independent practice time that makes any tutoring effective. Bestimate's monthly estimates for weekly one-hour sessions run roughly AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 mid-market, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year work.

There is one case where paying for two at once is right: when two sciences are both genuinely weak and the student is in the final two terms of Year 11. Even then, two specialists on different evenings beats one generalist covering both, and with online delivery the second appointment adds no travel for anybody. Advertised in-home packages in this market run around AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour visits against roughly AED 799 for eight online sessions, which is the clearest illustration of what the travel premium costs when more than one subject is involved.

IB Gram publishes no rate card on this page, because a figure quoted without knowing the award structure, the number of sciences and the frequency is not information. The trial lesson and the consultation are free. For budgeting context, KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that private school fees in Dubai would not rise for the 2026-27 academic year.

07

Practical work, materials and the limits worth stating

  • Apparatus handling belongs in the school laboratory and cannot be taught over video
  • The written practical component is precision writing and analysis, which works well on a shared screen
  • A student who cannot settle on a screen is a genuine limit, not a marketing objection
  • Board materials are referenced and linked, never reproduced or supplied
  • Ask any tutor whether they hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit

Science is the subject where online delivery has a real boundary, and it is worth naming rather than arguing around. Apparatus cannot be handled together over video. A student cannot be shown how a burette feels at the point of a titration, how a micrometer behaves when over-tightened, or why an ammeter reading is drifting. Those skills are learned in the school laboratory, and that is the right place for them.

What the written practical component assesses, though, is mostly not dexterity. It is the ability to describe a method precisely, to identify and control variables, to read apparatus to the correct resolution, to spot a flaw in a described procedure and to suggest a targeted improvement. All of that is analysis and precision writing, and it works better on a shared screen where the sentence can be written, marked against the scheme and rewritten in the same five minutes.

IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai; a tutor attending a student's address is a service we run only in India. So the honest comparison is between a subject specialist on a screen and a generalist in the room, and for a triple-award student needing chemistry and physics taught properly, the specialist wins on the thing that matters. For a student who cannot settle on a screen, it may not, and that is a limitation rather than an objection to be handled.

On materials, we reference Cambridge and Pearson syllabuses, past papers and mark schemes, cite them and link to the boards. We do not reproduce them or supply them as downloads, because they are the boards' copyright and, for unreleased material, a malpractice exposure. On permits, the MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and individuals tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, with no fine schedule published - so ask any tutor whether they hold it.

08

KHDA, the timetable and why triple award gets squeezed

  • KHDA oversees private education in Dubai; ADEK covers Abu Dhabi and SPEA covers Sharjah
  • 227 private schools and 387,441 students in Dubai in 2024-25, across seventeen curricula
  • Mandatory UAE subjects apply alongside any licensed international curriculum
  • Instructional time is calculated on a forty-minute lesson unit
  • Triple award needs roughly half again the periods of a double award, which is why access is rationed

Private schools in Dubai are overseen by KHDA, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, which is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. The sector ran 227 private schools and 387,441 students in 2024-25 across seventeen curricula, with UK curriculum schools at 37 per cent of enrolment. Inspection reports are public and name subject-level strengths, which makes them the best available comparison of science teaching between two schools in this belt.

The timetable pressure that pushes students towards double award is partly structural. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, with KHDA's requirements to be implemented by the start of the 2025-26 academic year. Instructional time is calculated against a forty-minute lesson unit, schools may vary lesson length provided the weekly total is met, and at least twenty-five minutes is advised for any mandatory subject lesson.

Three separate sciences need roughly half again as many periods as a double award, and in a Year 10 timetable that also has to fit mandatory subjects, mathematics, English and two or three options, something has to give. That is the mechanism behind a pattern families notice without identifying the cause: triple award is offered to fewer students than want it, and where it is offered the periods are sometimes tighter than the content needs.

One part of that squeezed timetable is closed to a science tutor entirely, and it is worth being clear about the boundary. For Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, KHDA requires separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students, because curriculum expectations and the language of instruction differ between the two groups, and combined classes are prohibited. Teachers of Arabic and Islamic Education must hold appropriate KHDA approval, which schools are responsible for ensuring. In those subjects the use of different or additional content without prior permission from the Ministry of Education is also prohibited. So when periods are tight, the hours that can be bought back sit in biology, chemistry and physics, not in the mandatory block that created the pressure.

Where we tutor

Where families running this search live

The free zone holds campuses rather than villas, so this catchment spreads across the communities within roughly fifteen minutes of Al Sufouh Road. Each note is about fitting three sciences into an evening.

Al Sufouh

The district the free zone sits inside, with schools finishing in the early afternoon. That matters for a triple-award student, who may need two different science tutors in a week and therefore two usable slots rather than one.

Dubai Media City and Barsha Heights

The nearest residential density to Knowledge Park. Working parents finishing after 6pm make 7.30pm the reliable slot, and an online timetable can place chemistry on Monday and physics on Wednesday at the same hour without anyone travelling.

Low-rise apartments towards Al Khail Road, feeding Regent International and schools in Al Barsha. The 3pm to 5pm congestion is what makes two separate in-person science appointments in one week impractical here.

Dubai Marina and JBR

Tower living where lift waits and visitor parking add fifteen minutes at each end of a visit. For a family needing two sciences a week, that is an hour of travel overhead that simply disappears with video delivery.

Jumeirah Lakes Towers

Across Sheikh Zayed Road and a separate free zone, with students mostly attending inland schools. The interchange at 4pm makes a second weekly science appointment the first thing to be dropped.

Al Barsha and Al Barsha South

The school belt for this catchment, with the least travel friction. Even here, finding one tutor who teaches biology, chemistry and physics all well is harder than finding three who each teach one.

Emirates Hills, The Springs, The Meadows and The Lakes

Villa communities inland of Al Khail Road, where internal roads are long enough that a visiting tutor's travel time is spent inside the community itself and billed at the lesson rate.

Palm Jumeirah and Dubai Harbour

Minutes from Al Sufouh without traffic and considerably longer with it, on a single access route. A second weekly appointment is rarely sustainable here, which is why triple-award families on the Palm move online early.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai Knowledge Park

Al Sufouh, Media City and The Greens

The schools closest to the free zone, most offering both triple and double award routes. Students we support attend schools in this cluster; check each school's current science award structure and inspection report on KHDA's own site, because award availability depends on timetabling in a given year.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

    Establish the award structure first

Triple, double or single, and the syllabus codes for each science. That single answer determines the post-16 ceiling and the past papers, and it takes one email to the school. Any plan built before it is known is a guess.

  2. 02

    Test the quantitative work separately

An unfamiliar formula, a symbol to be made the subject, no science attached. If that is slow, the first two sessions are quantitative sessions - and they pay in biology, chemistry and physics simultaneously rather than in one.

  3. 03

Send marked papers from each science

Three marked scripts tell us whether this is one problem or three. The distribution of lost marks across content, quantitative error, command terms, practical technique and time is what sets the order of work.

  4. 04

A free trial on a live topic

The tutor teaches whatever is currently stuck in the science that matters most, at the correct tier and board. That shows how explanations land, and there is nothing to unwind if the pairing is wrong.

  5. 05

    Sequence, do not parallelise

One science at a time unless two are genuinely critical and the papers are close. Three sciences in parallel means six hours of tuition a week, and the independent practice is always the first thing to go.

  6. 06

Review by distribution, not by total

Re-sit a paper and compare where the marks were lost, not just how many. Quantitative errors falling from twelve marks to three is real progress even when the total barely moves, because the next paper converts it.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Award structure before content

We establish triple, double or single award first, because it sets a ceiling that no amount of teaching lifts. A double-award student aiming at A Level chemistry has a structural problem that needs a different conversation.

One problem, not three

Three weak science grades usually share a quantitative cause. Fixing proportion, rearrangement and graph reading first pays in all three subjects at once, which no subject-specific work can do.

A specialist per science

Biology, chemistry and physics fail for different reasons and are taught best by people who teach them. Online delivery makes a second specialist on a second evening cost nothing extra in travel.

The practical paper taken seriously

The written practical component is precision writing marked on specific words, and it is the most reliably under-prepared paper in IGCSE science. Two sessions on it transfer across all three subjects.

Command terms as a closed list

State, describe, explain, compare, suggest, determine. Taught explicitly, they collect marks on content the student already holds, in all three sciences at once.

Sequenced to be affordable

One science at a time, chosen from marked papers, finished before the next starts. It costs a third of the obvious plan and protects the independent practice that makes tutoring work.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai Knowledge Park: your questions answered

How do I find out whether my child is on triple or double award science?+

Ask the school office or the head of science for the syllabus codes on the entry. Three codes - Cambridge 0610, 0620 and 0625, or Pearson 4BI1, 4CH1 and 4PH1 - means triple award. A single code such as Cambridge 0654 Co-ordinated Sciences, or a Pearson Science Double Award entry, means two grades from one qualification covering all three disciplines at reduced depth. Do this in Year 10, because that is when the decision can still be revisited and Year 11 is when it is being locked in.

My son is on double award and wants to study engineering. Is that a problem?+

It is a structural problem rather than an academic one, which makes it more serious than a weak grade. A Level physics and chemistry departments and Diploma Higher Level sciences generally expect the separate subject, and many in this belt will not admit double-award students at all. The options are to make an evidence-based case for moving to triple award while a place can still be timetabled, or to plan a route that accepts the double-award outcome. Discovering it in Year 13 leaves neither option open.

Why is my daughter losing marks in all three sciences at once?+

Almost always because of one shared cause rather than three separate ones. Proportion, equation rearrangement, standard form, unit conversion and graph reading are examined inside every science paper, and a student weak there loses marks everywhere and concludes they are bad at science. The test takes five minutes: hand over an unfamiliar formula and ask for a given symbol to be made the subject, with no science attached. If that is slow, fix it first and all three grades move.

Nobody has mentioned the written practical paper all year - what is on it?+

Cambridge assesses practical skills either through a practical test or through a written alternative, and which one applies depends on the syllabus and the centre, so confirm with the school first. The written paper asks a student to describe a method precisely, identify independent, dependent and control variables, read apparatus to the correct resolution, spot a flaw in a described procedure and suggest a targeted improvement. It is precision writing applied to science, marked on specific wording, and it improves quickly with two sessions of practice against official schemes.

Why does biology seem harder than chemistry for my child when everyone says the opposite?+

Because biology's difficulty is volume and vocabulary rather than conceptual depth. The content is larger than in the other two sciences, so revision tends to go broad and shallow, and extended-response questions on transport in plants, homeostasis or inheritance require the specification's own terms. A biologically correct answer in everyday language frequently scores nothing because the mark scheme lists the word. Active recall against the specification itself, using its vocabulary, is what shifts this - not re-reading notes.

Can one tutor cover biology, chemistry and physics for a triple-award student?+

One tutor can cover all three at Core tier or in Year 10 reasonably well. At Extended tier in Year 11, the three fail for different reasons and are taught best by people who teach them: chemistry's mole system and qualitative analysis, physics's circuit reduction, biology's specification vocabulary. Where two sciences genuinely need attention at once, two specialists on different evenings works better than one generalist across both, and with online delivery the second appointment adds no travel for anyone.

Will a science tutor come to our home in Al Sufouh or The Greens?+

Not from us. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE; tutors attending a student's address is a service we run only in India. Every lesson here is one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. In-home tutoring exists in this market at published rates of roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour with travel inside the price, and for a family needing two sciences a week that travel overhead is paid twice. What the premium buys is presence, not subject expertise.

How much should three sciences cost us a month, and is that even the right plan?+

Three weekly sessions at the qualified-tutor band is a commitment most families here will not sustain for two years, and usually should not. Published monthly estimates for weekly one-hour sessions in Dubai run roughly AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 mid-market and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year work. One science at a time, chosen from marked papers and finished before the next begins, costs a third as much and protects the independent practice that makes any of it work.

How many marks are really at stake in the six-mark questions?+

Enough to move a grade, and they are lost for non-scientific reasons. A student who knows the content writes everything they know in the order it occurs to them, while the mark scheme awards specific linked statements. Most students who mark their own long answers strictly discover they wrote four correct things and scored two, because two were not on the list and the other two were not connected. Two sessions on structure and command terms collects marks on content already held, in all three sciences at once.

Can online lessons really work for science when so much of it is practical?+

For what the papers assess, mostly yes - with one honest exception. Apparatus handling cannot be taught over video and belongs in the school laboratory, and we say so rather than claiming otherwise. The written practical component, though, tests method description, variable identification, apparatus resolution, flaw-spotting and improvement suggestion, all of which are precision writing and analysis. Those work better on a shared screen, where a sentence can be written, marked against the official scheme and rewritten inside five minutes.

Does it matter whether the sciences are Cambridge or Pearson for revision purposes?+

Yes, substantially. Question style, paper structure and the practical arrangements all differ, so past papers from the wrong board teach technique that will not be rewarded. Cambridge tiers the separate sciences into Core and Extended and assesses practical skills through a practical test or a written alternative. Pearson assesses practical skills within the written papers in several subjects, which is the decisive difference for anyone considering online schooling or entry as a private candidate. Collect the codes before buying anything.

Is it worth starting science tutoring in Year 10 rather than waiting?+

It is the better value by a wide margin, for two reasons. The quantitative work that underlies all three sciences takes a term to repair and pays for the remaining eighteen months rather than the remaining eight weeks. And Year 10 is when the triple-award decision can still be revisited on evidence, which is the single most consequential thing about IGCSE science. Year 11 tutoring is triage within a ceiling already set; Year 10 tutoring can still move the ceiling.

Which series will my child sit in Dubai - June, November, or the India-only February one?+

No. Cambridge International offers its February/March series to India only. UAE candidates sit the June series and the November series, and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and in November. Confirm the series with your school's exams officer, and also ask which of Cambridge's six administrative zones the centre sits in, because Cambridge states it is essential to use the correct timetable for your zone and cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one.

What if we need a science specialist and none is available at our hour?+

We say so rather than substituting someone who does not teach the subject. Some requirements are thin - a particular Cambridge syllabus version mid-revision, or practical-paper technique in the fortnight before the papers. When that happens you get three straight answers: how long a match realistically takes, whether a closely related specialist could cover part of the need, and whether the school's own department is the better route for now. No competitor page in this market publishes a coverage limit.

Collect the codes, then decide what to buy

If you are looking for an IGCSE science tutor in Dubai Knowledge Park, the useful first step costs nothing. Email the school and ask for the syllabus codes, the tier for each science and which practical route the centre enters. Then test the quantitative work for five minutes at home. With those answers the plan is usually obvious: fix the arithmetic first, take the science where the marked paper shows the cheapest marks, and keep the practical paper in the rotation from the start rather than leaving it until April.
