IB Physics Tutor in Al Khail Gate

Most students who need an IB physics tutor in Al Khail Gate do not have a physics problem. They have an algebra problem, a graph problem or an uncertainty problem wearing a physics badge, and no amount of rereading the theory touches any of the three. This page separates those skills out, goes through uncertainty propagation and linearisation properly, and sets out what the scientific investigation actually rewards. Lessons run live online on Gulf Standard Time.

IB & IGCSE in Al Khail Gate

Three skills stacked, and only one of them is physics

IB Physics asks a student to do three things at once and most struggling students are failing at exactly one of them. The first is physics: understanding the model, knowing which principle applies, choosing conservation of energy over kinematics because the question gives you heights and not times. The second is mathematics: rearranging, substituting, handling powers of ten, reading a gradient, and doing all of it under time pressure. The third is measurement: uncertainties, significant figures, error bars, and reasoning about how good a result actually is.

A student who understands the physics and cannot rearrange confidently will look like a physics failure in every paper. A student who can do both and has never been taught uncertainty propagation loses a consistent block of marks in the data-analysis questions and in their investigation. A student fluent in all three and slow at arithmetic loses the final questions on a paper to the clock. Those are four different problems and one report comment, and the comment is usually about working harder.

Separating them takes one script read properly. The physics failures show as the wrong principle chosen or a conceptual error stated in words. The mathematics failures show as a correct starting equation followed by an incorrect rearrangement. The measurement failures cluster in the data questions and in anything asking about precision, accuracy or reliability. The timing failures show as blank space at the end rather than wrong answers anywhere.

There is a fourth skill that sits underneath all of it and is almost never taught explicitly: using the data booklet. Every IB physics examination supplies one, and a student who knows what is in it stops memorising relationships and starts spending their revision on when to use them. Students who have never deliberately worked through the booklet waste time hunting for an equation that is on a page they have not looked at properly.

Then there is the internally assessed scientific investigation, which carries a published share of the grade and is the part of physics most under-planned. Its ceiling is set at the design stage: a research question that cannot generate data with a measurable trend cannot be analysed well, and no quality of write-up repairs that. Uncertainty treatment in the investigation is also where the strongest and weakest work separate most visibly.

The rest of this page works through those pieces: the mathematics physics assumes, graph linearisation, uncertainty propagation, data booklet technique, the investigation, and the Higher Level extension content where Standard Level habits break down. All of it is diagnosable from a marked paper, which is why the first session should be a working session. A parent can start that process without us: find the script, look for questions where a correct relationship is followed by a wrong line, and count them. That number alone usually settles what kind of help is needed.

At a glance

  • Physics failures, maths failures, measurement failures and timing failures look alike on a report
  • A marked script distinguishes them in about forty minutes
  • Every IB physics examination supplies a data booklet
  • Linearising a relationship to get a straight-line graph is a taught skill, not an instinct
  • The investigation's ceiling is set by its research question and its uncertainty treatment

IB Diploma Programme Physics

Available at Higher and Standard Level, with Higher carrying additional content and a greater paper load. Assessment combines external papers, including data-analysis questions, with an internally assessed scientific investigation. A data booklet is supplied in the examinations, so the emphasis is on selection and application rather than recall of relationships.

In Dubai, where International Baccalaureate students are about seven per cent of private enrolment, Physics Higher Level cohorts are often small. That means limited individual attention inside the class and, for a student with a specific gap in the Higher Level extension content, little chance of it being noticed and addressed in lesson time.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5

MYP Sciences

Assessed against four criteria, including inquiring and designing and processing and evaluating, which map more directly onto the Diploma investigation than onto its papers. Students from MYP often design better investigations and write weaker timed answers in the first Diploma term.

In the Dubailand belt most schools run IGCSE rather than MYP, so a Diploma physics class here usually mixes both entry routes. The MYP-entry student needs timed writing practice; the IGCSE-entry student needs independent investigation skills. Naming which applies takes one conversation.

IGCSE Physics as the prerequisite

Cambridge 0625 Extended or Pearson 4PH1 is the realistic preparation for Diploma Physics. The Extended content includes the quantitative treatment of forces, electricity and waves that the Diploma builds on; a Core entry omits several topics the Diploma assumes as prior knowledge.

UAE candidates sit Cambridge IGCSE in the June and November series; the February/March series is offered to India only. Most UAE school centres enter candidates for the Alternative to Practical paper, which is a written paper about experimental work rather than a laboratory assessment.

A Level Physics as the alternative

The other post-16 physics route in this belt, narrower and deeper, usually taken alongside mathematics. Both routes are accepted widely for engineering and physical sciences, and the practical difference is breadth of the rest of the timetable rather than physics content.

For UAE Ministry of Education equivalency on the British track, students must show one accredited Advanced Level subject at grade E or better, or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level, plus five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at grade E or 3 or better, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from the five.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the physics skills and topic areas that generate the most requests, described by the specific failure rather than by syllabus heading.

Rearranging and substituting

HL and SL

The commonest hidden cause of low physics marks. A student who can state the right relationship and cannot isolate the required variable confidently loses the question, and the loss looks like a physics error on a report. Fixing it is algebra practice inside physics contexts rather than a separate maths course.

Powers of ten and unit prefixes

HL and SL

Nanometres, megajoules, kilowatt-hours and scientific notation in calculations with several steps. Errors here produce answers wrong by a factor of a thousand, which the student often spots as implausible and cannot locate, costing time as well as marks.

Graphs and linearisation

HL and SL

Turning a non-linear relationship into a straight line by plotting the right quantities, then extracting a physical constant from the gradient or intercept. Explicitly taught in good classrooms and absent from many, and it appears in both the papers and the investigation.

Uncertainties and error propagation

HL and SL

Absolute and fractional uncertainty, propagation through products, quotients and powers, error bars and uncertainty in a gradient. A consistent block of marks in data-analysis questions and the single clearest differentiator in investigation scores.

Mechanics and energy

HL and SL

Kinematics, forces, momentum and energy conservation. The marks turn on choosing the right approach: energy methods where times are absent, momentum where a collision is involved. Students who default to kinematics everywhere make hard work of easy questions.

Waves and oscillations

HL and SL, deeper at HL

Wave behaviour, superposition, standing waves and at Higher Level simple harmonic motion treated quantitatively. Phase relationships and boundary conditions on standing waves are where diagrams are drawn wrongly and marks follow.

Fields and circuits

HL and SL, extended at HL

Gravitational, electric and magnetic fields, and electrical circuits. Potential and potential energy are routinely conflated, and circuit questions are lost on reading a series arrangement as parallel rather than on any analysis error.

Nuclear and quantum topics

HL and SL, extended at HL

Radioactive decay, nuclear energy, and at Higher Level quantum and relativistic material depending on the options taken. Mass-energy calculations are where unit prefixes and powers of ten do most damage.

The scientific investigation

HL and SL, same task

An individual investigation assessed against published criteria. The research question and the uncertainty treatment set the ceiling; a measurement with no estimated uncertainty cannot support the evaluation marks however carefully the data were collected.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats cover nearly every Diploma physics request from this community. All run live over video with the working visible as it is written; none involves a tutor travelling to a UAE address.

Skill-separated weekly session

Each session targets one of the three underlying skills rather than a topic: algebra inside physics contexts, graph and linearisation work, or uncertainty propagation. Topic content is taught where a named gap exists, but the default is the skill that the script says is failing.

  • Skill named at the start of the session
  • Practised inside real paper questions, not isolated drills
  • Working visible line by line as it is written
  • Re-tested in a full question the following week

Data-analysis and uncertainty block

A short block on the measurement side of physics: absolute and fractional uncertainty, propagation through products and powers, error bars, uncertainty in a gradient, and the vocabulary of precision, accuracy and reliability. It pays twice, in the papers and in the investigation.

  • Propagation rules taught with worked derivations, not as recipes
  • Error bars and gradient uncertainty drawn and measured
  • Precision, accuracy and reliability used correctly in writing
  • Applied directly to the student's own investigation data

Investigation design coaching

Front-loaded sessions at the point where the investigation's ceiling is set: the research question, the measurable range, the controlled variables and the uncertainty estimate for each instrument. The student designs, collects and writes everything; the tutor questions and gives feedback.

  • Research question tested for whether it can produce a trend
  • Instrument uncertainties estimated before data collection
  • Published criteria read strand by strand with the student
  • Drafts given feedback, never rewritten or completed

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Khail Gate

01

The mathematics physics assumes and does not teach

Diploma Physics is built on a set of mathematical skills it treats as prior knowledge. Rearranging an equation where the required variable sits inside a bracket or on a denominator. Working confidently with indices and powers of ten across several multiplication steps. Handling unit prefixes without converting twice or not at all. Reading a gradient from a graph with awkward axis scales. Using radians where a question is set in radians. None of those is taught in a physics lesson, and all of them are tested in every paper.

The diagnostic signature is distinctive once you look for it. A script where the correct relationship is written at the top of a question and the next line is algebraically wrong is a mathematics problem. A script where no relationship appears at all, or the wrong one appears, is a physics problem. The two look identical in a grade and call for completely different work, and the first is much faster to fix.

The fix is algebra practice inside physics contexts rather than a general mathematics course. Taking twenty past-paper questions, writing only the rearrangement step for each and checking it, builds the specific fluency the subject needs in a couple of sessions. A student who does that stops losing marks on questions they understood, which is the most frustrating category of loss and the most common.

The related trap is mental arithmetic with powers of ten. An answer wrong by a factor of a thousand is usually recognised as implausible by the student, who then spends two minutes hunting for the slip and loses time as well as the mark. Writing every quantity in scientific notation before substituting looks laborious and removes an entire class of error, which on a paper with several multi-step calculations is worth more than it costs.

02

Linearisation: the graph skill that separates grades

  • Rearrange the relationship into straight-line form before plotting anything
  • Choose axes so the gradient has a physical meaning
  • Read the gradient from the line of best fit, never from two data points
  • Ask what the intercept means physically; it often carries a mark

A great deal of physics assessment asks a student to extract a physical constant from experimental data, and the reliable route is to plot a straight line. If the relationship is a power law or an inverse relationship, plotting the raw quantities gives a curve from which nothing precise can be read. Plotting the right transformed quantities gives a straight line whose gradient or intercept is the constant you want.

The skill has three parts. First, rearranging the physical relationship into the form of a straight line, deciding what should go on each axis so that the gradient has physical meaning. Second, plotting accurately with a sensible scale, which carries marks in itself. Third, reading the gradient from the line of best fit rather than from two data points, which is the error almost every untrained student makes because using points feels more precise and is not.

This appears in the written papers in data-analysis questions and it appears again in the investigation, where a graph that linearises the relationship is usually the difference between an analysis that supports a conclusion and one that gestures at a trend. It is also one of the clearest cases where a short taught technique produces a visible mark improvement, because the student was not failing to understand anything, only failing to know the method.

Teaching it works best on the student's own data or on a real data-analysis question rather than in the abstract. Rearranging the relationship, choosing axes, plotting, drawing the line, reading the gradient with units, and then asking what the intercept means physically: that sequence, done three or four times across different relationships, is usually enough for it to become automatic.

03

Uncertainties, properly

Uncertainty treatment is the part of physics that distinguishes a strong script from a competent one, and it is routinely taught as a set of recipes to memorise. It works far better understood. An absolute uncertainty is the range within which a measurement plausibly lies, taken from the instrument's resolution or from the spread of repeated readings. A fractional or percentage uncertainty expresses that range relative to the measurement, which is what matters when quantities are combined.

The propagation rules follow from that and are short. Adding or subtracting quantities adds their absolute uncertainties. Multiplying or dividing adds their fractional uncertainties. Raising to a power multiplies the fractional uncertainty by that power, which is why a quantity that appears squared dominates the uncertainty in a result and is the first thing to measure more carefully. A student who understands that last point can say something intelligent in an evaluation instead of a generic comment about human error.

Graphically, uncertainties appear as error bars, and the examinable skill is drawing maximum and minimum gradient lines through the bars to obtain an uncertainty in the gradient. That is a procedure with a fixed method and it is worth practising to reliability, because it appears in data-analysis questions and because it is the standard way an investigation quantifies the uncertainty in its result.

There is also a vocabulary problem worth fixing at the same time. Precision, accuracy, reliability and validity mean different things and the published expectations use them exactly. A result can be precise and inaccurate, which is what a systematic error produces. A method can be reliable and invalid, which is what measuring the wrong thing consistently produces. Students who use these words loosely lose evaluation marks they could have had for free.

UNCERTAINTY: THE RULES AND WHY THEY MATTER

Adding or subtractingAbsolute uncertainties addSmall differences have large relative uncertaintyAvoid designs resting on a small difference

04

Using the data booklet as a technique

Every IB physics examination supplies a data booklet containing the relationships and constants a candidate needs. That changes what revision should consist of, and most students never adjust. Instead of memorising relationships, the useful work is knowing what is in the booklet, where it is, and which relationship applies to which situation. The subject stops being a recall test and becomes a selection test.

The practical exercise is to work through the booklet deliberately, page by page, with the syllabus beside it, and annotate which topic each section serves. Half an hour spent doing that once removes the commonest time loss in a physics paper, which is a student turning pages looking for something while the clock runs. It also reveals relationships the student did not know were provided, which they had been memorising unnecessarily.

The second half of the technique is selection practice. Given a question, which of several plausible relationships applies, and why. A question giving heights and asking for a speed wants energy conservation; a question giving a time wants kinematics; a question involving a collision wants momentum. Students who default to one approach regardless make hard work of straightforward questions and run out of time.

What the booklet does not contain is the physics reasoning, the command-term discipline or the unit handling. A student who treats it as a crutch, hunting for an equation before thinking about the situation, uses it badly. The order that works is to decide what physics applies, then find the relationship that expresses it, then substitute. That sequence also produces the written working the mark scheme pays for.

05

The scientific investigation in physics specifically

The internally assessed investigation carries a published share of the physics grade and its ceiling is set early. A research question that cannot produce a measurable trend across an achievable range makes good analysis impossible, and the single commonest failure is choosing a question where the dependent variable barely changes. Testing the design with a quick preliminary run before committing is worth more than any amount of careful write-up afterwards.

Physics investigations live or die on uncertainty. Every instrument used needs an estimated uncertainty recorded at the point of measurement, every repeated reading needs recording rather than averaging on the spot, and the final result needs an uncertainty derived by propagation or from a graph. An investigation reporting a value with no uncertainty cannot reach the top of the evaluation criteria, however well the experiment was executed.

The evaluation section is where most of the recoverable marks sit and where students write the least. The published expectations reward identifying which measurement contributed most to the uncertainty in the result, explaining why, and proposing a specific improvement that would reduce it. That is a different piece of writing from a general list of things that went wrong, and it follows directly from understanding that a squared quantity dominates a propagated uncertainty.

The honesty boundary is firm and worth stating plainly. A tutor can teach the physics, question whether the design can produce a trend, explain each published criterion, discuss how to estimate an instrument's uncertainty, and give feedback on the student's own draft. A tutor cannot design it for them, process their data, write any section or edit it to completion. Operations selling completed Internal Assessments exist in the Gulf market, and the malpractice consequence falls on the student rather than the seller.

Higher Level extension content, and where Standard Level habits break

Higher Level Physics adds content the Standard Level course does not examine, and it adds a greater paper load. The extension material arrives later in the two years and is taught faster, because the shared content had to come first. That produces a familiar pattern: a student who coped through Year 12 and started struggling in Year 13 usually has a specific gap in the extension topics rather than a general weakness.

The habits that break are specific. At Standard Level a student can often reason qualitatively about fields and oscillations; at Higher Level the treatment becomes quantitative and the algebra gets harder. Circular motion and gravitation demand confident manipulation of relationships with several variables. Oscillations treated quantitatively require comfort with phase and with differential relationships. Students who got through the shared content on physical intuition find intuition insufficient.

Diagnosing this needs the syllabus rather than guesswork. List the Higher Level extension topics, have the student attempt one question on each under time, and the gaps appear immediately. They are usually one or two topics, not five, and a block aimed at those specifically is far more efficient than open-ended revision that spends most of its hours on secure material.

There is an honest exception. A Higher Level student weak across the shared content as well as the extensions is carrying a load heavier than the course assumes, often alongside two other demanding Higher Level subjects. The useful conversation there is about level rather than topic, and it belongs in term one of Year 12 while the school can still act, not in the spring of Year 13 when it cannot.

What physics tutoring costs, and which band is worth it

Published Dubai rates divide into bands, and for physics the choice between them depends on which of the three underlying skills is failing. At the budget end, Tutopiya advertises online tutoring from around AED 33 to 52 an hour and EdFlik from AED 45 to 65. Qualified subject tutors working online are published at AED 150 to 300, with Unitors listing IB from AED 200. Specialists run AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase at around AED 270, and BartyED charges AED 650 for premium named tutors. In-home one-to-one is AED 180 to 500 with travel included.

For an algebra-inside-physics problem, the mid band is usually sufficient: the work is practice on a narrow skill and does not require deep familiarity with the Diploma's assessment. For an uncertainty and data-analysis problem, the specialist band earns its premium, because the published expectations are precise and a tutor who has not marked against them tends to teach uncertainty as recipes rather than as reasoning. For investigation design coaching, the same applies.

Monthly, Bestimate's estimates for weekly one-hour sessions run roughly AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 mid-band and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Monthly packages circulating in the market include around AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions. All of those are the providers' own published figures rather than ours.

The shape that works for physics specifically is a short data-analysis and uncertainty block early, because it pays in both the papers and the investigation, then investigation coaching at the design stage, then weekly paper work in the final year. That is front-loaded compared with how most families buy, and it is cheaper overall because the uncertainty work done once keeps paying.

Teaching a laboratory subject over video

Physics raises the reasonable question of whether a laboratory subject can be taught remotely. The answer depends on what is actually being assessed. The written papers test physics reasoning, mathematics and data analysis, none of which requires apparatus. The investigation requires apparatus, and the student has access to it at school; what they usually lack is help with the design decisions and the uncertainty treatment, both of which are conversations rather than procedures.

In practice an online session suits physics well. The working is visible line by line on a shared surface, graphs can be plotted and read together, a data set can be annotated on screen, and the data booklet is open in front of both parties. For data-analysis work it is at least as good as sitting side by side, and for uncertainty propagation it is better, because the derivation stays on screen rather than being rubbed out.

IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE. Home tutoring is a service we run only in India, and no tutor will arrive at an address in Al Khail Gate or anywhere else in the Emirates. All UAE lessons are one-to-one and live over video on Gulf Standard Time. The published in-home band in Dubai is AED 180 to 500 an hour with travel included, against AED 150 to 300 online, and the difference largely reflects the journey.

The selection point matters particularly here. Physics Higher Level cohorts in Dubai are small, and a student with a specific gap in a Higher Level extension topic needs somebody who teaches that content regularly. Within a short drive of Al Khail Gate that person may not exist; online they teach it weekly. For long sessions, full timed papers and investigation work, weekend mornings are the realistic slot given the Al Khail corridor commute.

Nearby areas we cover around Al Khail Gate

Physics students in Al Khail Gate commute in several directions, and the practical constraint is finding an uninterrupted block for data-analysis work.

Al Khail Gate

Apartment living beside the Al Khail Road interchange with no Diploma school nearby. Graph and uncertainty work needs a clear surface and a calculator, which makes a protected hour more valuable than an early one.

Motor City and Dubai Sports City

The closest established school cluster, short enough that a weekday hour of data work is realistic before fatigue. Enough margin for a full data-analysis question set on a weekday.

Dubai Hills Estate

Moderate run with growing provision. Students here usually keep one more usable weekday hour than those travelling to Al Barsha South, which matters for a subject needing frequent short practice.

Arabian Ranches and Arabian Ranches 2

Established cohorts with synchronised mock weeks, so demand for science slots spikes together across the community in the same fortnights.

DAMAC Hills and Town Square

Longer journeys, later arrivals. Full timed papers and long investigation sessions realistically need a weekend morning rather than a weekday evening.

Mudon and Remraam

The longest runs in the belt. Weekend anchoring works best, with short weekday sessions reserved for uncertainty and algebra drills rather than full papers.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the level and a marked script

Higher or Standard, plus a photograph of the most recent marked paper. The script distinguishes a physics problem from an algebra problem, an uncertainty problem or a timing problem, and those four need completely different work.

  2. 02

Free trial that names the failing skill

The trial works a real question live with the working visible, then states which of the three underlying skills is the constraint and roughly how long it takes to fix. No payment is taken before it happens.

  3. 03

Fix the maths inside physics first

Where the script shows correct relationships followed by wrong rearrangements, twenty rearrangement-only drills from past questions resolve more marks faster than any content teaching, and they make the content teaching that follows measurable.

  4. 04

    Do the uncertainty block early

Absolute and fractional uncertainty, propagation, error bars and gradient uncertainty. Done in Year 12 it pays in the data-analysis questions and again in the investigation, which is why it is the most efficient single block in the subject.

  5. 05

Coach the investigation at the design stage

Before data collection, not after. A research question that cannot produce a measurable trend caps the analysis and evaluation criteria, and no write-up repairs it. The student designs, collects and writes everything themselves.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Three skills separated before teaching

Physics, mathematics and measurement fail differently and look identical on a report. A script read question by question tells you which one is the constraint, and two of the three are faster to fix than content teaching.

Linearisation taught explicitly

Extracting a constant from a straight-line graph is a method, not an instinct, and the error almost every untrained student makes is reading the gradient from data points instead of the line of best fit.

Uncertainty taught as reasoning

Propagation rules follow from what an uncertainty is. A student who understands that a squared quantity dominates the result can write a real evaluation instead of a generic comment about human error.

The data booklet worked through once

Every examination supplies it, so revision should be about selection rather than recall. Half an hour annotating the booklet against the syllabus removes the commonest time loss in a physics paper.

Investigation coached, never produced

We question the design, explain the criteria and give feedback on the student's own draft. We do not design it, process the data, write sections or edit to completion, and we say so before any work begins.

Online only in the UAE

Lessons run live over video on Gulf Standard Time with the working and the data visible on screen. We do not offer home visits in the UAE; home tutoring runs only in India, and we claim no regulator accreditation.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Khail Gate: your questions answered

My son understands physics but his marks are low. What is actually wrong?+

Usually one of three things that all look like a physics problem on a report. Algebra: he writes the right relationship and the next line is wrong, which is a rearrangement failure. Measurement: he loses a consistent block of marks in data-analysis questions because uncertainty handling was never taught properly. Timing: the last questions are blank rather than wrong. A marked script distinguishes them in about forty minutes, and two of the three are considerably faster to fix than teaching content again.

What is linearisation and why does it matter in IB Physics?+

It is rearranging a physical relationship so that plotting the right transformed quantities gives a straight line, whose gradient or intercept is the constant you want. A power law plotted raw gives a curve from which nothing precise can be read. The skill has three parts: deciding what goes on each axis, plotting accurately with a sensible scale, and reading the gradient from the line of best fit rather than from two data points. It appears in the papers and again in the investigation.

How do uncertainties propagate in physics calculations?+

Adding or subtracting quantities adds their absolute uncertainties, which is why designs resting on a small difference between two large measurements are fragile. Multiplying or dividing adds their fractional uncertainties, so the worst-measured quantity dominates. Raising to a power multiplies the fractional uncertainty by that power, which means a quantity appearing squared dominates the uncertainty in the result. Understanding that last point lets a student write a real evaluation identifying which measurement to improve, rather than a generic comment.

Does my child need to memorise physics equations for the IB?+

Far fewer than most students assume, because every IB physics examination supplies a data booklet with the relationships and constants. The useful revision is knowing what is in it, where it sits, and which relationship applies to which situation. Half an hour spent annotating the booklet against the syllabus removes the commonest time loss in a paper, a student turning pages while the clock runs, and usually reveals relationships they had been memorising unnecessarily.

What makes a good research question for a physics investigation?+

One where the dependent variable changes measurably across a range the student can actually achieve with school apparatus. The commonest failure is a question where the measured quantity barely moves, which makes meaningful analysis impossible however carefully the data are collected. A quick preliminary run before committing is worth more than any amount of careful write-up afterwards. The second requirement is that every instrument's uncertainty can be estimated, because a result without an uncertainty cannot reach the top evaluation criteria.

Why did my daughter lose evaluation marks when her experiment worked?+

Because the evaluation criteria reward something more specific than a list of things that went wrong. The published expectations want the student to identify which measurement contributed most to the uncertainty in the final result, explain why it dominated, and propose a specific improvement that would reduce it. That follows from understanding propagation: a quantity appearing squared dominates. A generic paragraph about human error and more repeats scores in the lower bands even after a well-executed experiment.

How can a physics practical be supported if lessons are online?+

The apparatus is at school and the student has access to it; what they usually lack is help with the design decisions and the uncertainty treatment, and both are conversations rather than procedures. An online session suits that well: the data set is annotated on screen, graphs are plotted and read together, and the uncertainty derivation stays visible rather than being rubbed out. The written papers test reasoning, mathematics and data analysis, none of which needs apparatus at all.

Will IB Gram send a physics tutor to Al Khail Gate?+

No. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE; home tutoring is a service we run only in India, and no tutor will arrive at an address anywhere in the Emirates. All UAE lessons are one-to-one and live over video on Gulf Standard Time. For physics the online pool matters because Higher Level cohorts in Dubai are small: a tutor teaching the Higher Level extension content weekly may not exist within a short drive of this community.

My son was fine in Year 12 physics and is struggling now. Why?+

Most likely a gap in the Higher Level extension content, which arrives later in the two years and is taught faster because the shared material came first. The habits that break are specific: qualitative reasoning that worked for the shared content is insufficient once fields, circular motion and oscillations are treated quantitatively with multi-variable algebra. The diagnosis takes one session: list the extension topics from the syllabus and have him attempt one timed question on each.

Is Physics Higher Level necessary for engineering?+

Frequently yes, and it should be checked against actual entry requirements rather than assumed. Many engineering and physical sciences programmes expect Physics and Mathematics at Higher Level, often Mathematics Analysis and Approaches specifically. Read the requirements of several plausible universities in term one of Year 12, while a level change is still administratively possible. A student carrying three demanding Higher Levels who is struggling in all of them has a load problem rather than a physics problem, and that is a different conversation.

How much should we pay for IB Physics tutoring in Dubai?+

It depends which problem you are buying help for. For rearrangement practice or graph technique the qualified band is sufficient, published at AED 150 to 300 an hour with Unitors listing IB from AED 200. For uncertainty, data analysis and investigation coaching the specialist band earns its premium, at AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase around AED 270. Budget providers advertise from around AED 33 to 65. In-home is AED 180 to 500 with travel included. All published by the providers themselves.

What should a physics tutoring plan look like across two years?+

Front-loaded, which is the opposite of how most families buy. A short uncertainty and data-analysis block in Year 12, because it pays in both the papers and the investigation. Investigation design coaching before data collection, when the ceiling is still open. Then weekly paper work through Year 13 on whichever of the three skills the scripts say is failing. That sequence costs less in total than a Year 13 scramble and includes the two interventions a scramble cannot deliver.

Does the calculator matter in IB Physics?+

Less than in mathematics and more than students expect. The IB specifies permitted graphical display calculator models, and the recurring loss in physics is the angle mode: a calculator left in degrees for a question set in radians produces a wrong answer from a correct method. The other issue is speed with scientific notation across multi-step calculations. An hour of model-specific practice removes both, and almost nobody schedules it deliberately.

When do Dubai IB students sit physics exams?+

UAE Diploma candidates sit the May session, and we publish no specific examination or results dates on these pages. The IB's own website blocks automated checking, so no IB date in this project has been confirmed from the IB itself, and a date a family plans around has to be right. Confirm the window and the results dates with your school's IB coordinator or on ibo.org. For Cambridge qualifications sat alongside, UAE centres sit the June and November series.

Our only free evening is Wednesday. What happens if nobody covers HL physics then?+

We say so rather than substituting a generalist. Higher Level physics is a narrow specialism and demand peaks across the city in the same weeks before a session, so a specific level at a specific hour does occasionally come up empty. The options are a different time, a different tutor with a handover of the diagnostic notes, or a wait with a date attached. A tutor unfamiliar with what Higher Level examines will teach the shared content well and miss the extension gap that is actually causing the problem.

Separate the three skills first

If you are looking for an IB physics tutor in Al Khail Gate, send the level and a photograph of the most recent marked paper. From that a specialist can say whether the constraint is physics, algebra, measurement or the clock, and the answer changes the next eight weeks completely. Where the script shows correct relationships followed by wrong rearrangements, the fix is rearrangement drills rather than more theory. Where the losses cluster in data questions, the fix is uncertainty taught as reasoning. The trial lesson works one real question with the working visible and names the constraint, and no payment is taken before it. All UAE lessons run live over video on Gulf Standard Time; we do not offer home visits in the UAE.
