IGCSE Home Tutor in the Corniche

Comparing an IGCSE home tutor in the Corniche against one in Al Khalidiyah, Al Bateen or Al Mushrif is comparing four districts that share schools, share both examination boards and sit minutes apart. This page runs that comparison honestly, then sets out the comparisons that actually matter: agency against marketplace against freelance, in-home against online, and what a quoted hourly rate does and does not include.

  • Provider models compared, with every quoted rate attributed and dated
  • Tower logistics costed, since no quote includes parking or lift waits

IB & IGCSE in the Corniche

Most tutoring comparisons compare the wrong things

A parent on the Corniche collecting quotes typically ends up with three numbers that look comparable and are not. One is an agency rate that includes a replacement policy and travel. One is a freelance rate that includes neither. One is a platform rate for a university student rather than a qualified teacher. Comparing those three on price alone is comparing a taxi fare with a bus ticket and a bicycle.

The same problem applies to the geographical comparison families run first. The Corniche, Al Khalidiyah, Al Bateen and Al Mushrif sit minutes apart on the city's western side. Their children attend, in large part, the same schools. Those schools enter candidates for the same two examination boards. The topic errors that cost marks are identical across all four districts. There is no educational difference between them to find, however long a parent spends looking for one.

What does differ between the four is logistics, and on the Corniche specifically the logistics are towers. Visitor parking, reception procedures and lift waits consume minutes that belong to a paid hour, and no quote in this market itemises them. A tutor held at a building entrance for ten minutes has still charged the full hour, and across a term that is several sessions of waiting paid at a teaching rate.

IB Gram does not offer home visits in Abu Dhabi, or anywhere else in the UAE. In-home tutoring is a service we run only in India. What we deliver to the Corniche is one-to-one teaching over live video, matched by syllabus code and component. In-home one-to-one visits in Abu Dhabi are quoted across the market at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour with travel priced in, and that comparison is set out properly later on this page.

The comparisons worth your attention are three. Which provider model suits the problem you have: agency, marketplace, budget platform, freelance tutor or tuition centre. Which board and tier your child is actually entered for, since Cambridge and Pearson are different courses with different calculator rules and different grading scales. And which format suits the child, because a younger or less self-directed student genuinely benefits from somebody in the room.

What follows works through each of those with figures attributed to the provider or rate table they came from and the month they were read. Nothing here is an IB Gram price list. The point is to make the quotes you have been given comparable, including ours, so that the decision is made on something other than confidence. Three of the six best-ranked pages for Abu Dhabi tutoring queries publish no price at all and the two that do quote in US dollars, a currency no Corniche family transacts in.

At a glance

  • Three quotes in this market usually describe three different products
  • The Corniche, Al Khalidiyah, Al Bateen and Al Mushrif share schools and boards
  • Tower logistics cost paid minutes that no quote itemises
  • Cambridge and Pearson are different courses, not two names for one
  • Lessons here are live one-to-one video; home visits are India-only
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

The British pathway has three stages and the right provider model differs across them. A choice that is sensible at eleven is often wrong at fifteen, and the reverse.

KS3Ages 11-14 · Years 7-9

Key Stage 3, Years 7 to 9

No external examinations, so what is needed is supervision and fluency rather than specification expertise. A budget online platform or a capable university student is genuinely good value here, and paying specialist rates is money with nowhere useful to go. Algebraic manipulation and sentence construction are the work.

Corniche Key Stage 3 students attend schools a short drive inland and are usually home before 15:15 with the lightest workload in the household. Two short sessions a week fit comfortably, and at this age frequency beats length because a twelve-year-old's attention on written work does not last a full hour.

Year 10Ages 14-15 · Year 10

IGCSE year one

Content coverage begins, the tier is provisionally decided and the habits that decide the grade form. The right model shifts here: a qualified subject tutor who knows the specification becomes worth the difference, because habits installed against the wrong specification have to be unlearned later.

This is the only stage where a Corniche family can still influence the tier. Email the school and ask in writing which tier your child is provisionally entered for, what grade it caps at, and the last date a change can be submitted. Those three answers are worth more than any provider comparison.

Year 11Ages 15-16 · Year 11

IGCSE examination year

Entries fixed, mocks sat, papers in the June or November series for UAE candidates. By the spring the useful work is conversion rather than coverage, and the model that fits is a specialist who teaches the exact paper. A budget platform cannot do this and a generalist agency often cannot either.

Abu Dhabi schools release students for parts of mock season, which gives Corniche families a daytime window that does not exist in normal term. It is the most productive fortnight of the year because the marked script is fresh and the commute disappears at the same time.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Subject by subject, what you are buying expertise in and where a cheaper model stops being adequate.

Mathematics

Cambridge 0580 · Pearson 4MA1

Two timed papers, no coursework. A budget tutor can supervise practice; only somebody who knows the specification can tell you that Cambridge separates a non-calculator paper while Pearson allows a calculator on both, which changes how arithmetic is practised.

Physics

Cambridge 0625 · Pearson 4PH1

Cambridge splits thirty per cent multiple choice, fifty theory and twenty practical. The practical component has conventions a generalist will not know: units in table headers, a line of best fit rather than a line through every point, specific error sources rather than human error.

Chemistry

Cambridge 0620 · Pearson 4CH1

Moles arithmetic written with units is a discipline a budget tutor can enforce. The qualitative analysis tables and ionic equation conventions are specification knowledge, and that is where the cheaper models stop being adequate in Year 11.

Biology

Cambridge 0610 · Pearson 4BI1

The largest specification in the sciences, where terminology precision decides marks. Timed recall with immediate correction is the work and it does not require an examiner, which makes Biology unusually good value at the middle band rather than the top one.

English Language

Cambridge 0500 or 0990 · Pearson 4EA1

Directed writing rewards correct form, audience and purpose, and students lose marks writing well while answering the wrong task. Teaching the fifteen-minute planning habit is a qualified-teacher skill rather than a specialist one.

English Literature

Cambridge 0475 or 0992 · Pearson 4ET1

Six short memorised quotations per text, each with a point attached, outperform wide reading with nothing quotable. That is a memorisation and structure job, which means the middle band is usually sufficient and often better than the top one.

Economics and Business

Cambridge 0455 and 0450 · Pearson 4EC1 and 4BS1

A labelled diagram earns credit before prose is read, which is the cheapest available mark in both subjects and fixable in a fortnight at any band. Definition precision is slower and needs spacing across months rather than a late push.

Combined and Coordinated Science

Cambridge 0653 and 0654 · Pearson 4SD0

Three sciences compressed, where the loss is unseen topics rather than misunderstood ones. Working through the specification checklist systematically is the approach, and it requires somebody holding the right checklist for the right code.

Computer Science and ICT

Cambridge 0478 and 0417 · Pearson 4IT1

Trace tables and pseudocode conventions are examinable skills distinct from writing working code, which is why a professional developer is often a poor choice as a tutor here. The practical component also carries an internal deadline that drives the autumn.

Arabic

Cambridge 0508 first language · 0544 foreign language

Mandatory alongside the licensed curriculum in UAE private schools, with separate provision for Arab and non-Arab students. Short regular oral and written practice is the realistic intervention, which the budget band delivers perfectly well across a whole year.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats, compared rather than ranked. The right one depends on the child and the stage, and we would rather tell you when a cheaper option is sufficient.

Online one-to-one, weekly

One subject, one specification, the same tutor weekly, on live video with a shared whiteboard. Market rates for a qualified subject tutor online run roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour on published figures. The full hour is teaching, because nobody arrives, parks or waits for a lift, which on the Corniche is a material difference.

  • Matched to the code and tier, not to the subject name
  • The hour starts on the hour; no travel or access loss
  • Saved whiteboard and worked answers after every session
  • Evening and weekend slots, including post-Iftar during Ramadan

Diagnostic and comparison session

A single session that makes your existing quotes comparable. What each includes, whether a replacement policy exists, whether travel is inside or outside the rate, whether the tutor teaches your child's code weekly, and what tier your child is entered for. The output is a sheet you can use with any provider, including ours.

  • Your quotes normalised so they describe the same product
  • The tier and code confirmed from the paper and the school
  • A marked script classified into content, wording, working and timing
  • No obligation; the sheet is yours whoever you then use

Mock-to-paper specialist run

Two or three sessions a week from mock results to the June or November papers, on conversion rather than coverage. This is the one phase where the specialist band earns its premium, because paper technique needs somebody who teaches that paper rather than somebody who knows the subject.

  • Built from the actual mock script and its classified losses
  • Timed sections in the exact paper format and tier
  • Mark schemes read line by line with the student
  • Pausable for the school's own study-leave weeks

Can you get an IGCSE home tutor on the Corniche, and what the quote leaves out

In-home tutoring is available in this part of Abu Dhabi and the market rate is public. In-home one-to-one visits across the Emirates are quoted at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour with travel priced in, per the Bestimate rate table at AED 180 to 350 and independent home tutors advertising AED 200 to 500. Monthly in-home packages have been seen at AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour sessions.

What no quote in this market itemises is the access cost, and on the Corniche it is real. Visitor parking in a waterfront tower is frequently full at the hour tutors arrive. Reception procedures take minutes. Lifts in a residential tower at five in the afternoon are slow. A tutor who reaches the door ten minutes late has charged the full hour, and across a twelve-week term that is two sessions of waiting paid at a teaching rate.

IB Gram does not offer home visits in Abu Dhabi. In-home tutoring is a service we run only in India, which is the position stated on every country page on this site. What we deliver to the Corniche is one-to-one teaching over live video, where the hour begins on the hour and the only thing that has to arrive is a connection.

The honest case for a visit is not abolished by any of that. A younger child, or a student who will not stay at the table without an adult physically present, benefits in a way video cannot replicate. If that is your child, you want a provider who does visits, and we will say so rather than persuade you into a format that will not work for them.

The Corniche against Al Khalidiyah, Al Bateen and Al Mushrif

Here is the district comparison done properly, because families run it first and deserve a real answer. The four sit minutes apart. Their children attend the same schools, which enter the same two examination boards, which produce the same topic errors in the same order. There is no educational variable between them, and anybody claiming otherwise is selling a postcode.

The differences that do exist are about access and housing stock. The Corniche and Al Markaziyah are apartment-dominated, with the parking and lift problem described above. Al Khalidiyah is similar. Al Bateen is mixed, so in-home access varies street by street. Al Mushrif is largely villa housing, which makes in-home tutoring operationally simplest and is reflected in slightly keener quotes from tutors who prefer villa calls.

The second difference is the afternoon return, and it is small here by Abu Dhabi standards. Students attending schools in Al Bateen or Al Khalidiyah are home earliest. Students travelling to Al Mushrif are commonly fifteen to thirty minutes later. Students crossing a bridge to an island school or running out to Khalifa City are latest and almost always fix an evening slot for the year.

Read the table below as logistics rather than as a ranking. Then spend your attention on the three comparisons that follow it, which are the ones that change a grade: provider model, board and tier, and what a quote actually includes. Those three take about an hour between them and are worth considerably more than a week of asking neighbours who they use.

Provider models compared, with sources rather than claims

Every provider in this market compares itself favourably against an unnamed set of other platforms, which is not a comparison. The table below compares models rather than companies, and where a figure appears it belongs to that provider's own published page with the month it was read. That is the standard the ranking pages in this cluster generally do not meet.

Three recurring problems are worth naming because you will meet them. Some providers publish a price in structured data that contradicts the price on the visible page. At least one publishes a star rating it generated itself, which is against structured-data policy and tells you nothing about teaching quality. And several route UAE enquiries to tutors who are not in the country while implying local delivery.

The second thing to check in any model is the replacement policy. A tutor who stops being available mid-term is a normal event, and what matters is what happens next. An agency usually substitutes somebody; a freelance arrangement simply ends; a marketplace returns you to a search. Ask the question before you book rather than after, because the answer differs enormously between models and almost nobody volunteers it.

On availability, the honest position across every model is that nobody covers every subject at every hour. For IGCSE, common tiers at common hours usually match within a few days. A narrow combination at one fixed weekday hour can take a week or more, and occasionally nobody suitable is free. A provider that never says so is not more capable; it is less candid.

What you are actually comparing when you compare tutors

Most quotes in this market are not comparable because they describe different products. Before choosing between them, normalise them against the same questions. The table below is the list we use, and it is worth running whether you end up with us or with somebody else, because it exposes the differences that price alone conceals.

Two of the items matter more than the rest. The first is whether the tutor teaches your child's exact syllabus code and tier every week, because a tutor who knows the subject but not the specification will teach the wrong difficulty and the wrong conventions. The second is what happens when a session is missed, by either side, since that determines what you are actually paying for across a term.

A third item is quietly important and almost never asked: what the first session will produce. A provider that cannot answer that is selling hours rather than a plan. The right answer is a diagnosis you can check against marked work, naming whether the losses are content, question wording, unshown working or pacing, each of which needs a different remedy.

Run the list and the decision usually makes itself. Where two providers come out equivalent, choose on the thing that actually varies for a Corniche household, which is whether the full hour reaches your child or whether some of it is spent in a lift lobby. That is a small consideration per session and a real one across a term.

THE QUESTIONS THAT MAKE TWO QUOTES COMPARABLE

Cambridge or Pearson: the comparison nobody makes and everybody should

  • The code on a past paper tells you the board in five seconds
  • Cambridge separates a non-calculator maths paper; Pearson does not
  • Cambridge assesses practicals separately; Pearson assesses them in writing
  • The tier caps the grade: Core at C, Foundation at 5

Before comparing tutors, find out which course your child is actually on. The code is printed on the front of every past paper: a four-digit number beginning with zero is Cambridge International, and a code of the form 4MA1 or 4PH1 is Pearson Edexcel International GCSE. The schools around Al Bateen and Al Mushrif sometimes use different boards for different subjects in the same building.

The differences change what any tutor should be doing. In mathematics, Cambridge separates its papers so a candidate sits one without a calculator and one with, while Pearson permits a calculator on both; that single fact changes how arithmetic is practised for two years. In the sciences, Cambridge assesses practical skills through a practical test or the alternative to practical, while Pearson assesses the same reasoning inside its written papers.

Grading scales differ too, which confuses households with two children on different boards. Cambridge reports A* to G with Core capped at C; Pearson reports 9 to 1 with Foundation capped at 5 and Higher running from 9 down to 4, with a 3 available. A grade 6 and a grade B are not directly comparable, and a report mixing boards across subjects makes the comparison harder still.

The tier question travels with the board question and is the more consequential of the two. Ask the school in writing for the tier in each examined subject, the maximum grade that tier allows, and the last date a change can be submitted. A Cambridge Core entry caps at C and a Pearson Foundation entry at 5, and those ceilings can close science and mathematics routes at sixteen.

06

Group class, one-to-one, or a centre

  • Group classes suit a student near target who needs structure and company
  • A group cannot see one student's error pattern, and will not fix it
  • A centre with premises needs an educational services permit; ask to see it
  • Group for structure plus occasional one-to-one for the weakness works best

The format comparison is usually framed as a budget question and is better framed as a diagnosis question. A group class works for a student near target who needs structure, pace and the company of others doing the same work. It costs less per hour and it provides something one-to-one does not: the reassurance of not being the only person finding a topic difficult.

What a group class cannot do is address one student's specific error pattern, because the group moves at group pace. If your child's problem is that they do not show working in multi-stage questions, or that they consistently misread evaluate as describe, those errors are invisible in a group of twelve and will survive a whole term of classes. That is not a criticism of the format; it is a statement of what it is for.

A tuition centre adds premises and a timetable, which some families value highly because it removes the scheduling problem entirely. The thing to verify is the permit: a tutoring operation with premises and staff needs an educational services permit for a training institute, which is a specific licence, and it is a reasonable thing to ask to see.

The combination that works most often is a group class for structure plus occasional one-to-one on the identified weakness, rather than either replacing the other. For a Corniche household the one-to-one half of that is simplest online, because the group class has already consumed the travel budget for the week.

07

Why the answer comes out the same across all four districts

  • Four districts, one shared catchment, one shared set of topic errors
  • A local search selects for willingness to park, not for teaching
  • For a young child, proximity genuinely wins and we will say so
  • For Year 10 and 11, code, tier and diagnosis are what matter

If the Corniche, Al Khalidiyah, Al Bateen and Al Mushrif share schools, boards and topic errors, then whatever separates a good outcome from a poor one must sit elsewhere. It does. It sits in whether the tutor teaches your child's exact code and tier weekly, whether the diagnosis happened before the hours were bought, and whether the full hour reaches the child.

A district-based search optimises for none of those. It returns people who can reach your building, which constrains both the hours they can offer and the specifications they happen to know. On the Corniche it additionally returns people willing to deal with visitor parking and a lift lobby, which is a smaller group again and not selected for teaching quality.

The honest counterweight is that for a younger child none of this applies, because what that child needs is an adult in the room and the specification barely matters yet. Key Stage 3 fluency work is well served by a nearby tutor at a budget rate, and we would recommend that over anything we sell if it is what the situation calls for.

For Year 10 and Year 11, where the grade is decided by specification knowledge and paper technique, the district is noise. Spend the attention you were going to spend on location on the three comparisons in this page instead: provider model, board and tier, and what a quote actually includes. Each of those can be settled with an email or a phone call, and together they do more than any amount of local searching.

08

Permits, verification and what we will not claim

  • The MoHRE private tuition permit is free, valid two years, and checkable
  • Those tutoring without one face penalties; no fine schedule is published
  • ADEK ethics rules bar tutoring a student from the tutor's own school
  • No accreditation, no Abu Dhabi office, no guarantees, no unsourced figures

Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit, which is both a legal fact and a useful screening tool. The MoHRE private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18.

Because it costs nothing, a UAE-based tutor without one has no financial excuse. MoHRE's own service page is titled Issuance of a New Work Permit for Private Tutor Licensing, lists no fees and a two-working-day completion time, and the application runs through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system. Individuals tutoring without a permit face fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published, so no amount should be quoted to you.

Abu Dhabi adds a layer. Press reporting indicates that ADEK's professional-ethics rules prohibit private and charter school staff from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and that the permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. Treat that as press-reported rather than ADEK's exact wording and verify against the current policy if it matters to your situation.

What we will not claim: no regulator or examination board accredits IB Gram. We hold no ADEK, MoHRE, Cambridge or Pearson approval of any kind, and a KHDA educational services permit is a specific licence issued to training institutes with premises, which we do not imply. There is no Abu Dhabi office. No provider can guarantee a grade or an improvement, including us. Every dirham figure here carries its source and the month it was read.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around the Corniche

These are the districts Corniche families actually compare themselves against. The honest conclusion is that the differences are logistical rather than educational, and the first table on this page sets them side by side.

Al Khalidiyah

Immediately inland, sharing schools and the same tower-living constraints. Al Khalidiyah households face identical building access and visitor parking issues, which is why both districts use online delivery more than the villa communities do.

Al Bateen

West along the coast, with several long-established schools Corniche students attend. Mixed villa and apartment stock, so in-home access is easier in parts of it and the quotes tutors give reflect that unevenly.

Al Mushrif

Further inland with more established school provision and largely villa housing. In-home tutoring is operationally simplest here, which is reflected in slightly tighter quotes from tutors who prefer villa calls.

Al Markaziyah

Central district immediately behind the Corniche, dense and apartment-dominated. The same access problem applies, with the addition of harder street parking during business hours.

Al Nahyan

East of Al Mushrif with its own schools and a comparable commute. Al Nahyan and Corniche students frequently share schools, so their mock weeks and study leave coincide and they compete for the same tutoring hours.

Al Reem Island

Tower living across a bridge with its own schools. Al Reem is the closest comparison to the Corniche in logistics, and the bridge adds travel loading to any in-home quote on top of the building access problem.

Saadiyat Island

Across the bridges with continuum and British provision. Some Corniche students travel there, and in-home quotes to Saadiyat carry the highest travel loading in this group because of the crossing.

Khalifa City

A longer run inland with several well-known schools and the largest local tutor supply in Abu Dhabi. Corniche families sometimes find cheaper in-home quotes from tutors based there, with a longer journey priced in.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in the Corniche

Al Bateen, Al Khalidiyah and Al Mushrif

The schools most Corniche students attend, a short drive inland, running the British pathway and in some cases IB programmes. They are the shared catchment for all four districts in this comparison, which is precisely why the districts cannot differ educationally.

  • The British School Al Khubairat
  • Al Bateen Academy
  • American Community School of Abu Dhabi
  • Brighton College Abu Dhabi
  • Sheikh Zayed Private Academy
  • Abu Dhabi International School

The island and outer schools Corniche families also use

A bridge or a longer run away. In-home quotes to these students' households carry more travel loading, and their later finishes narrow the usable hours further, which is where the online case is strongest.

  • Cranleigh Abu Dhabi
  • Repton School Abu Dhabi
  • Al Yasmina Academy
  • GEMS American Academy Abu Dhabi
  • Raha International School
  • The Pearl Academy

Schools are named to describe the shared catchment across this part of Abu Dhabi. IB Gram has no affiliation with or endorsement from any of them; some students we support happen to attend them.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Bring the quotes you already have

Tell us what you have been offered and by which kind of provider. We will normalise them against the same questions: travel inside the rate, replacement policy, missed-session terms, and whether the tutor teaches your child's code weekly. The resulting sheet is yours whoever you then choose.

  2. 02

Confirm the code and the tier

The code is on the front of any past paper and the tier takes one email to the school office. Those two facts determine which past papers, which revision guide and which tutor are useful, and getting them wrong costs a term rather than an hour.

  3. 03

    Send a marked script

We classify every lost mark as content, question wording, unshown working or timing. Those four need different remedies and different numbers of hours, and buying a package before that classification is the most reliable way to waste money in this market.

  4. 04

    Take the free trial lesson

One per family, before any payment and with no card details taken. Ask the tutor for the component weightings in your child's subject; those are published facts and hesitation is the answer. Then judge whether a specific diagnosis came out of the hour.

Choose the format for the child, not the budget

A reluctant younger child needs somebody in the room, and we will tell you that even though we do not offer it in the UAE. A Year 11 student with a named paper weakness needs a specialist at the right band. Those are different answers and the price is not what decides between them.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Quotes made comparable before anything is bought

Three quotes in this market usually describe three different products. We normalise them against the same seven questions, and the sheet is yours whether you use us or not, because a decision made on confidence rather than comparison is the one families regret.

Models compared, brands not disparaged

The provider table compares agency, marketplace, budget platform, freelance and centre models. Any figure quoted belongs to that provider's own published page with the month it was read, and we make no claims about anybody's quality or legality.

Tower logistics counted as a cost

On the Corniche, visitor parking, reception and lift waits consume paid minutes that no quote itemises. Online delivery removes them, which is a smaller argument than expertise and a real one over a twelve-week term.

The code and tier checked first

0580 and 4MA1 are different courses with different calculator rules and different grading scales, and the tier caps the grade at C or 5. We ask for both before matching anybody, because those two facts determine every resource and every tutor.

An honest answer about format

For a reluctant younger child, somebody in the room wins and we do not offer that in the UAE. We say so rather than selling a format that will not work. For Year 10 and 11, specification knowledge wins and the district is noise.

Permits explained, approvals never claimed

The MoHRE private tuition permit is free, valid two years and checkable, and we show you how. No regulator or examination board accredits IB Gram, there is no Abu Dhabi office, and no provider can guarantee a grade including us.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in the Corniche: your questions answered

Is an IGCSE home tutor in the Corniche better than one in Al Mushrif or Al Bateen?+

No, and the comparison is worth retiring. The four districts sit minutes apart, their children attend the same schools, those schools enter the same two examination boards, and the topic errors that cost marks are identical. What differs is housing stock and access: the Corniche is tower living where parking and lift waits consume paid minutes, while Al Mushrif is largely villas where in-home tutoring is operationally simplest. That is a logistics difference, not an educational one.

Does IB Gram send tutors into Corniche towers?+

No. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Abu Dhabi or anywhere in the UAE; in-home tutoring is a service we run only in India. Lessons here are one to one over live video, with your child's own school material on screen and the hour starting on the hour. In-home visits in Abu Dhabi are quoted in the market at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour with travel priced in, per the Bestimate rate table and published home-tutor rates.

Why do two tutoring quotes for the same subject differ so much?+

Usually because they describe different products. One may be an agency rate including travel and a replacement policy; one a freelance rate including neither; one a platform rate for a university student rather than a qualified teacher. Published Abu Dhabi bands run from about AED 33 to 65 for student tutors, AED 150 to 300 for a qualified subject tutor online, and AED 180 to 500 for an in-home visit with travel. Normalise before comparing.

What should I ask before accepting any tutoring quote?+

Seven things. Does the tutor teach my child's exact code and tier every week. Is travel inside the rate. What happens if a session is missed, by either side. What happens if the tutor becomes unavailable mid-term. What will the first session produce. Is the tutor UAE-based and permitted. And can you tell me the component weightings for this subject. The last one is a published fact, so hesitation is itself the answer.

Do parking and lift waits really matter for an in-home session?+

On the Corniche, yes, and nobody quotes for it. Visitor parking in a waterfront tower is often full at the hour tutors arrive, reception procedures take minutes, and lifts at five in the afternoon are slow. A tutor who reaches the door ten minutes late has charged the full hour. Across a twelve-week term that is roughly two sessions of waiting paid at a teaching rate, which is a cost that never appears in any comparison table in this market.

Which provider model suits a Year 11 student with a weak paper?+

A specialist who teaches that exact paper, which in practice means the upper middle or specialist band, published at roughly AED 150 to 300 and AED 200 to 450 respectively. A budget platform cannot address paper technique, and a generalist agency often cannot either. The thing to verify is not the brand but whether the individual tutor teaches your child's code and tier weekly, which is a question any provider should be able to answer directly.

Is a group class a reasonable alternative for IGCSE revision?+

For a student near target who needs structure, pace and company, yes, and it costs less per hour. What a group cannot do is see one student's error pattern: if your child does not show working in multi-stage questions, or misreads evaluate as describe, those errors are invisible in a class of twelve and will survive a term. The combination that works is a group class for structure plus occasional one-to-one on the identified weakness.

How do I check which examination board my child sits?+

Look at the top of any past paper. A four-digit code beginning with zero is Cambridge International, so 0580, 0625, 0620, 0610 or 0500. A code of the form 4MA1 or 4PH1 is Pearson Edexcel International GCSE. Schools around Al Bateen and Al Mushrif sometimes use different boards for different subjects in the same building, so check each examined subject rather than assuming one answer covers them all.

What practical difference does the board make to revision?+

A substantial one. In mathematics, Cambridge separates its papers so a candidate sits one without a calculator and one with, while Pearson permits a calculator on both; that changes how arithmetic is practised for two years. In the sciences, Cambridge assesses practical skills through a practical test or the alternative to practical, while Pearson assesses the same reasoning inside its written papers. Revision material bought for the wrong code teaches the wrong conventions.

Should I ask about a replacement policy before booking?+

Yes, and almost nobody does. A tutor becoming unavailable mid-term is a normal event rather than an exceptional one, and what happens next differs enormously by model. An agency usually substitutes somebody. A freelance arrangement simply ends. A marketplace returns you to a search. Ask the question before booking, because afterwards you are negotiating from a weaker position in the middle of a term you needed the sessions for.

How do I verify a Corniche tutor is legally permitted to teach privately?+

Ask to see the MoHRE private tutor work permit. It was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and covers school and government teachers, private and public-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time. Because it costs nothing, a UAE-based tutor without one has no excuse, and those tutoring without it face penalties under the applicable laws.

Can a tuition centre in Abu Dhabi operate without a specific licence?+

A tutoring operation with premises and staff is a different legal entity from an individual tutor and requires an educational services permit for a training institute. That is a specific licence rather than a general trade licence, and it is a reasonable thing to ask a centre to show you. Note also that no provider, including us, should describe itself as approved by a regulator; IB Gram holds no accreditation from ADEK, MoHRE or any examination board.

When is a cheaper tutor genuinely the right choice?+

In Key Stage 3 and for supervision work, where the need is fluency and habit rather than specification knowledge. Published budget rates run from around AED 33 to 65 an hour, and for algebraic manipulation practice, vocabulary drilling or keeping a Year 8 student on top of homework that is good value. It stops being the right choice in Year 10, when habits start forming against a specific specification and installing them wrongly costs more than it saved.

What should the first paid session produce on the Corniche?+

A diagnosis you can check against marked work, naming whether the losses are content not known, question wording misread, working not shown, or time running out. Those four need different remedies and different numbers of hours. A provider who cannot tell you in advance what the first session will produce is selling hours rather than a plan, and that is the clearest signal available before any money moves.

What if you cannot staff the subject and hour we need?+

We say so instead of filling the slot with a generalist. Common IGCSE subjects at common hours usually match within a few days. A specific tier at one fixed weekday hour can take a week or more, and occasionally nobody suitable is free at all. Corniche households compete with Al Reem, Al Bateen and Saadiyat families for the same early-evening window. Hearing that early leaves you time to try another provider while it still matters.

Bring your quotes, we will make them comparable

Send the quotes you already have, the syllabus code from a past paper, the tier if you know it, and the most recent marked script. We will normalise the quotes against the same questions, classify where the marks are going, and tell you which provider model fits the problem, including when a cheaper one does. The resulting sheet is yours whoever you use. If it is us, your child meets a specialist in that specification on a free trial lesson first, live online, one to one.
