IB IGCSE Tutor near me in Al Nahyan

Typing IB IGCSE tutor near me in Al Nahyan usually means one of two things: a household with children on two different boards, or a Year 11 student about to cross from IGCSE into the Diploma Programme. Both problems are about curriculum knowledge, not distance. IB Gram matches Al Nahyan families with specialists in both systems, one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

IB & IGCSE in Al Nahyan

Why 'near me' is the least useful word in this search

A search for a tutor nearby is a search for a short drive. It made sense when tuition meant somebody arriving at the door, and in Al Nahyan it produces a list filtered by geography rather than by whether anyone on it has taught your child's course. That filter throws away the thing you actually need. There is no shortage of competent maths graduates within ten minutes of Al Nahyan. There is a real shortage of people who have marked a Cambridge Extended paper against the published scheme and also know what a Diploma mathematics exploration scores at criterion E.

The households that type this phrase in Al Nahyan tend to look the same. Two or three children, one still in the IGCSE years on a Cambridge or Pearson specification, one in DP1 or DP2 having crossed over, and a parent trying to find one point of contact rather than three. The district is apartment living between Airport Road and Al Karamah, which means siblings often attend different schools on different finish times, and the family calendar is the binding constraint on when anything can happen.

The honest answer to the proximity question is this: IB Gram delivers one-to-one lessons over live video, and does not offer home visits in Abu Dhabi — home visiting is an India-only service. Independent tutors in the emirate do travel, and the market prices that at a premium we set out further down. What online delivery changes for a two-board household is the match. The Year 11 child gets a 0580 or 4MA1 specialist; the DP2 child gets someone who has supervised explorations and knows the criteria by letter; and both can be booked into the same evening without anyone driving between them.

The rest of this page deals with the two problems that actually bring Al Nahyan parents here. The first is the crossing from IGCSE to the Diploma, which is the single most underestimated transition in international schooling and which bites in specific, nameable ways per subject. The second is running two boards in one house: different command-term vocabulary, different reporting scales, different exam series, different internal deadlines. Both are manageable once they are written down, and most of this page is simply writing them down.

Three further sections cover ground this search ignores entirely. One sets out the Diploma's internal assessment criteria by letter with their mark allocations and word limits, because those are published, knowable and routinely unread by the students they govern. One covers the mandatory Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies layer that runs alongside every international curriculum in the Emirates and quietly consumes the homework capacity parents assume their child has. The last covers the honesty boundary across both boards, which matters because at least one site competing for this phrase sells completed assessments to families who think they are buying help.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

An Al Nahyan household running both boards is usually touching three programmes at once. Each has a different assessment logic, and a tutor who treats them as the same subject taught at different speeds will be wrong about what to practise.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge and Pearson IGCSE

Two years ending in terminal written papers, tiered as Core and Extended by Cambridge and Foundation and Higher by Pearson. Assessment is almost entirely by examination, with practical skills examined on paper in the sciences. The grading scale differs by board, which matters when a family tries to compare two children's reports.

In Abu Dhabi, the IGCSE years are also where the Ministry of Education equivalency rules start to apply. The British track requires five accredited subjects at no less than grade E or grade 3, and Arabic and Islamic Education are not counted among those five. Subject choices made in Year 9 therefore have an administrative consequence years later.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme

Six subjects across the groups, three at Higher Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS. Every subject carries an internal assessment marked against published criteria by letter, and those marks are a meaningful fraction of the grade. The written papers reward justified judgement rather than recall.

The Diploma is the fastest-growing route in Abu Dhabi private schooling and several schools in the emirate run it alongside a British lower school, which is exactly how a two-board household appears. No Ministry of Education equivalency points figure for the Diploma should be quoted to you without a reference on the ministry's own site.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

IB Middle Years Programme

Criterion-referenced assessment across eight subject groups, graded one to eight against four criteria per subject rather than by percentage. Students arrive in the Diploma fluent in reflection and inquiry language but often short of the procedural fluency that terminal written papers demand, particularly in mathematics.

Where an Al Nahyan child moves from MYP into DP1 maths, the gap is almost always algebraic stamina rather than understanding. That is diagnosable in a single trial lesson and repairable over a term of weekly work, which is far cheaper than discovering it in the DP1 mock.

ASAAges 16-18 · Years 12-13

Cambridge International AS and A Level

The alternative post-16 route several Abu Dhabi schools run beside the Diploma, with narrower subject choice and staged AS and A2 assessment. Content depth per subject is greater; breadth is lower. Families comparing the two routes for a Year 11 child are usually weighing exactly that trade.

For Ministry of Education equivalency on the British track, students must show one accredited subject at Advanced Level at no less than grade E, or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade, alongside the five IGCSE subjects. Verify the current requirements through the official channel before acting on them.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

The courses below are the ones Al Nahyan households most often need covered at the same time, with the specific thing that goes wrong in each. Several appear in both systems and are not the same subject twice.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The Diploma's proof-heavy maths route. Students arriving from Extended IGCSE meet radians, formal proof and calculus at pace. HL adds Paper 3, an extended problem-solving paper that rewards stamina and penalises students who abandon a question early.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Modelling, statistics and technology-led work. The common error is treating it as the easier course; the graphic display calculator fluency and the modelling vocabulary are genuine demands and are examined precisely.

Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580

Core and Extended

Two written papers, one without a calculator. Extended-only topics include functions, vectors and harder trigonometry. Marks go to scale factors in similar solids, frequency density and early rounding more often than to anything conceptual.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Maths A 4MA1

Foundation and Higher

Two two-hour papers, calculator permitted on both, formula sheet supplied, graded on the numerical scale. The skill is fast formula selection rather than recall, which changes how revision should be spent.

Physics

IGCSE, SL and HL

At Diploma level the step is uncertainty treatment and the data-based paper; at IGCSE it is the alternative-to-practical paper, where students who have done the experiments still lose marks describing a method precisely enough to be repeated.

Chemistry

IGCSE, SL and HL

Organic mechanisms and energetics carry the Diploma marks; moles and ionic equations carry the IGCSE ones. The reasoning demanded in Diploma Paper 2 is a different genre of writing from an IGCSE structured answer.

Biology

IGCSE, SL and HL

Volume of specific terminology at IGCSE, and command-term discipline at Diploma level. Students who revise by reading lose marks that students who practise written answers against mark schemes keep.

Economics

SL and HL

Diagram accuracy and evaluation structure decide the grade. The internal assessment is a set of commentaries on real published articles, and the most common fault is commentary that summarises the article rather than applying a theory to it.

English A Language and Literature

SL and HL

Unseen text analysis, the Individual Oral and, at Higher Level, the HL essay. Strong IGCSE English candidates often stall here because the Diploma rewards argument about how a text works rather than comprehension of what it says.

Business Management

SL and HL

Tools, quantitative content and an internal assessment grounded in a real organisation. Students lose marks by describing a business rather than answering the question asked about it, which is a correctable habit.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three arrangements suit a two-board household, and the right one usually follows the calendar rather than the budget. The Diploma child's internal deadlines tend to dictate the family schedule.

Parallel weekly slots for siblings

Two children, two tutors, two consecutive slots on the same evening. The IGCSE child works through their specification in the order the school teaches it; the Diploma child works to their school's internal deadline chain. One calendar, one point of contact, no driving between them.

  • Consecutive slots on the same evening where the household prefers it
  • Separate specialists matched per course, not one tutor stretched across both
  • Shared review date so both plans are assessed together

Transition block before DP1

A short course in the months between the IGCSE papers and the start of DP1, aimed at the specific gap the chosen Diploma subjects will expose. For maths that is proof, radians and calculus pace; for the sciences it is uncertainty treatment and the data-based paper.

  • Subject-by-subject diagnosis before DP1 begins
  • Content taught ahead of the course rather than remedially during it
  • Finite number of lessons with a defined end point

Internal assessment supervision support

Scheduled sessions around the exploration, essay or investigation deadlines, working on the student's own draft against the published criteria. The tutor reads, questions and feeds back; the student writes every word. That boundary is not negotiable and is stated to the student at the outset.

  • Criteria taught by letter with their mark allocations
  • Feedback on the student's own draft, never text supplied for them
  • Timed against the school's internal deadlines, not the exam window

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Nahyan

01

What 'near me' actually returns for an Al Nahyan household

A proximity search ranks by distance and reviews. Neither signal says anything about whether a tutor has taught Cambridge Extended mathematics or supervised a Diploma exploration. The result is a list of people who are close, which is a solved problem in a district as dense as Al Nahyan, and silence on the question that matters.

Test it with one question. Ask any prospective tutor which criterion of the mathematics exploration carries six marks, or how many marks the Extended Essay's critical thinking criterion is worth. Those are facts, published by the board, and a specialist answers immediately. Somebody who teaches general maths will not, and that is useful information obtained in ten seconds rather than after four paid lessons.

The second thing proximity hides is availability. Specialist Diploma tutors in Abu Dhabi concentrate their hours in the same late-afternoon window every family wants, and the scarcer the course, the tighter that window. Higher Level sciences, Economics and the less common languages run thin. A family filtering by driving distance first and specialism second is choosing from the intersection of two small sets, and will usually end up compromising on the one that matters.

What this page offers instead is a specification-first match delivered over live video, with the honest statement attached: IB Gram runs no home visits in Abu Dhabi, because that is an India-only service, and we think the trade favours the family. The alternative — a generalist who is nearby — is the quiet reason a great deal of tuition money produces no measurable change in a report card.

02

The IGCSE to Diploma crossing, subject by subject

The gap between Year 11 and DP1 is the most consistently underestimated step in international education, and it is not uniform. It is specific per subject, and naming it converts a vague anxiety into a plan with a number of weeks attached.

In mathematics the jump is formal: proof as a genre, radians instead of degrees, and calculus arriving faster than most students expect. A student with a strong Extended 0580 or Higher 4MA1 grade still has to learn a new kind of writing, because Analysis and Approaches asks for argument and not just the correct value. In the sciences the shift is methodological: uncertainty treatment, the data-based paper, and an internal assessment that is marked on the design of the investigation rather than on how neatly the results came out. In the humanities it is evaluative, because the Diploma rewards a justified judgement with a counterargument where IGCSE rewarded a complete and accurate answer.

The table below sets out the common routes with the gap that actually bites and a realistic span of support. These are typical spans, not promises, and they assume weekly one-to-one work with marked written output between lessons. A student who does no written work between sessions should expect the longer end of every range.

Timing matters more than volume here. Work done in the months before DP1 starts is worth considerably more than the same hours spent in DP1 term two, because the student is not simultaneously trying to keep up with six new courses, Theory of Knowledge and an Extended Essay. For an Al Nahyan family whose child finishes IGCSE in the June series, the window between the last paper and the start of the new year is the cheapest and most productive one available.

Command terms: the same word means different things on different boards

Both Cambridge and the IB publish lists of command terms with definitions, and both expect students to treat them as instructions rather than synonyms. Students who do not read those lists write answers that are correct and unrewarded, which is the most demoralising way to lose marks there is.

The clearest example is 'show that'. A question that says show that the answer is a particular value wants a derivation that arrives at the printed result. A student who substitutes the printed value back in and demonstrates that it works has verified the answer and scored nothing, because verification is not derivation. Similarly, 'comment on' asks for interpretation of a result already obtained, not a restatement of it, and 'justify' requires the evidence to be named rather than implied.

The vocabulary shifts as a student crosses into the Diploma. IGCSE answers reward completeness and accuracy; Diploma answers in the humanities and sciences reward a judgement, supported, with its limitations acknowledged. A Year 12 student still writing good IGCSE answers will be marked down for exactly the quality that earned them a top IGCSE grade, which is bewildering unless somebody explains the change.

The table lists the terms that cost the most marks in Abu Dhabi scripts, with what the examiner is looking for. The mark weights are typical rather than fixed; read the current published command-term list for the subject, since boards revise them. The exercise worth doing at home takes twenty minutes: open a marked script, underline the command word in every question that lost marks, and check it against the published definition. In most scripts two or three terms account for the bulk of the damage, and both children in a two-board household usually have different ones.

04

Internal assessment criteria by letter, and what each is worth

This is the part of the Diploma that Abu Dhabi families understand least and that carries the most recoverable marks. Every internal assessment is marked against published criteria, each criterion has a letter and a maximum, and the student can read them before writing a word. Most do not. A student who writes with the criteria open beside them scores differently from one who writes an essay and hopes.

The mathematics exploration is the cleanest example. Twenty marks, split across presentation, mathematical communication, personal engagement, reflection and use of mathematics, with use of mathematics carrying the largest single allocation. A technically immaculate exploration with no reflection loses marks that were available for free. The Extended Essay works the same way across thirty-four marks, with critical thinking worth twelve of them — more than a third of the essay — which tells a student exactly where to spend their final fortnight.

Word limits are part of the specification rather than a guideline, and Abu Dhabi students lose marks to them routinely. The Extended Essay stops at four thousand words. The Theory of Knowledge essay stops at sixteen hundred, and the exhibition commentary at nine hundred and fifty. Markers stop reading at the limit; everything after it is unmarked, which turns an over-length conclusion into no conclusion.

A tutor's role here is specific and bounded. We teach what each criterion rewards, question a student's draft against it, and point at the criterion a paragraph is failing to address. We do not write any part of an assessment, edit it to completion, or supply text for submission. The work is the student's, the entry is the student's, and a tutor who offers otherwise is creating a malpractice exposure for your child rather than saving them time.

Running two boards in one Al Nahyan household

A family with a Year 11 IGCSE student and a DP2 student is managing two different calendars, two reporting scales and two kinds of homework, and the two children will tell you the other one has it easier. The practical problems are mundane and solvable once they are separated out.

Calendars first. The IGCSE child's year ends in a terminal exam series with almost everything riding on a fortnight of papers. The Diploma child's year is a chain of internal deadlines — exploration drafts, the Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge submissions — spread across eighteen months, any one of which can swallow a weekend. Those two shapes need different tuition patterns: steady weekly work for the IGCSE child, lumpier blocks timed to deadlines for the Diploma child.

Then the reporting scales, which cause more domestic friction than anything else. Cambridge reports A* to G, Pearson reports nine to one, the Diploma reports one to seven per subject with a forty-five point total, and the MYP reports one to eight against criteria. None of these translates cleanly into another and attempting the translation at the dinner table helps nobody. The useful comparison is progress against the same child's previous work, not against a sibling on a different scale.

On cost, the figure parents usually want is monthly rather than hourly. For a single weekly one-hour session, Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 rate table puts monthly spend at roughly AED 240 to 600 at budget level, AED 600 to 1,200 mid-market, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Two children on weekly sessions therefore means doubling whichever band applies, and the honest planning advice for an Al Nahyan household is to fund the child in an exam year properly rather than funding both thinly. Those bands are the market's, read in October 2026, and not our price list.

06

Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies alongside the international curriculum

This is the layer almost no tutoring site in the UAE mentions, and it affects every family on this page. Private schools in the Emirates are not obliged to follow a specific national curriculum beyond Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies, and must adhere to the Ministry's general regulations. Those subjects run alongside the Cambridge or IB timetable, not instead of it, and they appear on the report card.

The requirements are detailed where they have been published. KHDA's mandatory-subjects guidance for Dubai, which is the clearest public statement of how these subjects are organised in the UAE, requires separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, and states that combined classes for both groups are prohibited because the curriculum expectations and language of instruction differ. It sets Standard Arabic as the language of instruction for Islamic Education for Arab students and for Arabic as a first language, and the school's licensed-curriculum language for non-Arab students in Islamic Education and in moral, social and cultural studies. Instructional time is calculated on a forty-minute lesson unit, with a recommendation that no mandatory-subject lesson runs shorter than twenty-five minutes.

Two consequences follow for an Al Nahyan family. First, these subjects consume timetable space that parents often forget when they calculate how much homework capacity a child has, which is why a Diploma student with six subjects plus Arabic is genuinely busier than the subject count suggests. Second, the content is tightly controlled: for the mandatory subjects, using different or additional content without prior permission from the Ministry is prohibited. That is a real constraint on how any Arabic or Islamic Education tutoring can honestly be described, and anyone offering a bespoke alternative syllabus for them is describing something they should not be doing.

There is a third point worth knowing, because it is checkable. Schools are required to ensure that teachers of Islamic Education and Arabic hold the relevant approval from the regulator to teach those subjects. That is a question a parent can ask the school directly, and the answer is a matter of record.

07

ADEK, inspection ratings, and what a school report does not tell you

In Abu Dhabi, the Department of Education and Knowledge supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate and publishes inspection outcomes. That makes ADEK the first place to look when a family is comparing schools, and it is named by almost none of the tutoring sites competing for this search, which is a strange omission given how much weight parents put on it.

The regulator map across the Emirates is worth knowing because families move. Dubai sits with the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, which is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in that emirate. Sharjah's private schools are regulated by the Sharjah Private Education Authority, Ras Al Khaimah's by its Department of Knowledge, and the Ministry of Education supervises private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. Sharjah's and Ras Al Khaimah's authorities approve tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods, so in those emirates the regulator's remit extends well beyond inspection.

What an inspection rating tells you is how a school performs overall against the regulator's framework. What it does not tell you is whether that school's Higher Level Chemistry set has a specialist teacher this year, whether the maths department is short-staffed, or whether your particular child is on the right tier. Those are the questions that determine whether tuition is needed, and none of them is answerable from a published band. Read the rating, then ask the subject-level questions separately.

IB Gram holds no accreditation, licence or approval from ADEK, KHDA, the Ministry of Education, Cambridge, Pearson or the IB, and is not a registered centre of any kind. The regulators are named here so that an Al Nahyan parent can ask better questions of their school, not to imply any of them endorses this platform.

08

Academic honesty across both boards, and what a tutor will not do

Both systems treat authorship as non-negotiable, and the Diploma treats it as a condition of the award. An internal assessment submitted with material a student did not produce puts the whole entry at risk, not just that component. This is the point at which some of the websites competing for this search become actively dangerous: at least one in this market sells completed internal assessments outright, at a four-figure price in dirhams. Buying one is not a shortcut; it is an offence against the regulations that the student carries, not the seller.

The boundary a legitimate tutor works inside is clear and we state it to students at the first session. A tutor may teach the content, explain what each criterion rewards, question a draft, point out where an argument is unsupported, model an unrelated worked example, and mark practice work against the published scheme. A tutor may not supply sentences for submission, restructure a draft into a finished piece, provide answers to live assessed tasks, or sit beside a student during an assessment. We decline those requests and will say why.

There are two related boundaries worth stating because competitors cross them. We do not reproduce or distribute board material. Specifications, past papers, mark schemes, subject guides and grade-boundary tables belong to Cambridge, Pearson and the IB and are published on their own sites; a tutor works through them with a student from the official source rather than handing over copies. And we do not describe tutors as current examiners for any board unless that status can be evidenced, nor use examiner experience to imply any access to marking or unreleased papers.

The last boundary is about outcomes. No tutor can promise a grade, a points total or a university place, and nobody should sell you one. What good tuition offers is a correct diagnosis, teaching aimed at it, written work marked against the real criteria, and an honest statement about how much of the gap the time remaining can close. If a provider will not say what their plan cannot achieve, that silence is the most informative thing about them.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Al Nahyan

Al Nahyan parents comparing tuition usually also look at the districts below, either because a school sits there or because a relative does. Delivery over live video makes the comparison irrelevant, which is the argument of this page in one sentence.

Al Bateen

Western island district with several long-established schools inside a short drive. Families here manage the earliest realistic weekday session starts in the emirate.

Al Reem Island

High-density towers with a growing school presence. Lift and basement parking time is why a visiting tutor's hour costs more here than the headline rate suggests.

Saadiyat Island

Low density, high fees, IB-heavy. Saadiyat and Al Nahyan households frequently want the same Diploma subject specialist and compete for the same evening slots.

Khalifa City

The main mainland school cluster. Al Nahyan children travel out to it daily, and a 2:45pm finish there usually means arriving home after 3:30pm.

Al Raha Gardens

Villa community feeding the Al Raha and Khalifa City schools, with an IB continuum school on its doorstep. Sibling collections, not distance, decide the tuition slot.

Mohammed Bin Zayed City

Large mainland district with its own schools and a long island commute. The pool of specialists available in person thins sharply here.

the Corniche

Shortest school runs on the island, and the households most likely to be running two boards at once across two different schools.

Yas Island

Newer schools and newer families, with a high proportion of transfers mid-programme. Transfers are where the IGCSE-to-Diploma gap shows up most abruptly.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Al Nahyan

Abu Dhabi island

Between them these schools run Cambridge and Pearson IGCSE routes and IB Diploma courses, which is why a single Al Nahyan household can end up on two boards. Students we support attend schools in this cluster; no relationship with any of them is claimed.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us who is on which board

For each child: school, year, board, course names and levels. A two-board household gets two separate matches rather than one tutor stretched across both, and the plan for each child is written against their own calendar.

  2. 02

Send the most recent marked work

A marked mock paper for the IGCSE child, a draft or a returned internal assessment for the Diploma child. Both get read before the trial lesson so the hour is spent teaching rather than establishing what the problem is.

  3. 03

    Free trial lesson per child

One live video lesson each, with the matched specialist. You decide afterwards whether to continue, per child. No card is required at this stage and nothing renews automatically if you do not take it further.

  4. 04

Agree a cadence and one shared review date

Weekly slots, a transition block or deadline-timed sessions, with a single review date for the household. At that point we look at marked work and the internal deadlines met, and change the plan where the evidence says to.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Two boards, two specialists, one calendar

An IGCSE specification expert and a Diploma subject specialist are different people, and we match them separately. What the household shares is the schedule and the point of contact, not a single tutor asked to cover everything.

Criteria taught by letter

Internal assessment criteria, their mark allocations and their word limits are published and knowable. We teach them explicitly, because a student writing with the criteria in front of them scores differently from one writing an essay and hoping.

Live video, honestly described

Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Abu Dhabi, as that is an India-only service, and we say so on every page rather than leaving a parent to discover it.

The transition is treated as a subject in itself

The IGCSE-to-Diploma crossing has a different shape in every subject. We name the gap per course, give a realistic span of weeks, and prefer to do that work before DP1 starts rather than during term two.

Boundaries stated to the student, not just the parent

What a tutor will and will not do with an exploration or an essay is said out loud in the first session. That protects the student's entry and removes an awkward conversation later in the year.

Dated, attributed figures

Every AED band on this page is attributed to a published market source and dated October 2026. Nothing here is our price list, and no statistic appears without a date and a source behind it.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Nahyan: your questions answered

Is there an IB and IGCSE tutor actually based in Al Nahyan?+

There are certainly tutors living in and around the district, and several visit homes independently. IB Gram is not one of them: we deliver one-to-one lessons over live video and do not offer home visits in Abu Dhabi, because home visiting is an India-only service for us. The reason we think that is the better trade for an Al Nahyan household is specialism. A Diploma Higher Level Chemistry specialist or a 4MA1 examiner-trained maths teacher is scarce in the emirate, and filtering by driving distance first removes most of them from consideration.

Can one tutor teach my Year 11 child and my DP2 child in Al Nahyan?+

Usually not well, and we would rather say so. Cambridge or Pearson IGCSE and the IB Diploma are different assessment systems with different command vocabulary, different internal assessment rules and different exam calendars. A tutor who genuinely covers both at depth exists but is uncommon. What we do instead is match each child to a specialist and put the sessions back to back on the same evening, so the household keeps one schedule and one point of contact without compromising either child's match.

How big is the jump from Extended IGCSE maths to Analysis and Approaches?+

Larger than the grade suggests. A student with a strong Extended 0580 or Higher 4MA1 result still has to absorb radians, formal proof as a style of writing, and calculus arriving at a pace no IGCSE course prepares for. Higher Level adds Paper 3, a long problem-solving paper that rewards persistence. Typical weekly support for this crossing runs to a term alongside DP1, and the same work done before DP1 begins is worth noticeably more because the student is not also juggling five other new courses.

Which criterion carries the most marks in the Diploma Extended Essay?+

Critical thinking, at twelve of the thirty-four available marks. The others are focus and method, knowledge and understanding, presentation, and engagement. Knowing that allocation changes how a student spends their last fortnight: polishing the presentation criterion returns four marks at most, while strengthening the analysis and the handling of counter-evidence reaches into the largest pot on the sheet. The essay also stops at four thousand words, and anything written beyond that limit is simply not marked.

What are the word limits on Diploma internal assessments?+

The Extended Essay stops at four thousand words. The Theory of Knowledge essay stops at sixteen hundred, and the exhibition commentary at nine hundred and fifty. The sciences scientific investigation runs to three thousand words and the History internal assessment to two thousand two hundred. The mathematics exploration has no fixed word count but is expected to be a short report. Markers stop at the limit, so an over-length conclusion is an unmarked conclusion, which is the most avoidable way to lose marks in the whole Diploma.

Which exam series do Abu Dhabi IGCSE candidates sit?+

Cambridge runs its IGCSE examinations in a June series and a November series, and those are the two open to UAE candidates; the February/March series is offered in India only. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and November each year. Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and warns that the correct zone timetable must be used, as it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who sit the wrong version. Read the live official timetable rather than any summary, including this one.

Do Arabic and Islamic Education count towards Ministry of Education equivalency?+

On the British track, no. Students must pass five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade of no less than E or grade 3, and Arabic and Islamic education are not included among those five. They must also show one accredited subject at Advanced Level at no less than grade E, or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. At least one ranking tutoring site in this market publishes a six-subject requirement, which is wrong. Verify the current rules through the official ministry channel before acting.

Why does my Al Nahyan child's school teach Arabic alongside the IB or IGCSE?+

Because it is required. Private schools in the UAE are not obliged to follow a specific national curriculum beyond Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies, and must adhere to the Ministry's general regulations. These subjects run alongside the international timetable rather than replacing any of it. The practical effect on a household is capacity: a Diploma student carrying six subjects plus the mandatory subjects has less homework headroom than the subject count implies, which is worth factoring into any tuition schedule.

What does an ADEK inspection rating tell me about my child's subject?+

Very little at subject level, which is the limitation parents most often miss. ADEK supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in Abu Dhabi and publishes inspection outcomes, and a rating describes whole-school performance against the regulator's framework. It cannot tell you whether this year's Higher Level Chemistry set has a specialist teacher, whether the maths department is carrying a vacancy, or whether your child is entered at the right tier. Read the rating, then ask those questions of the school directly.

How much do two children in Al Nahyan cost per month in tuition?+

Double whichever band applies, which is why the planning question is which child to fund properly. Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 rate table puts monthly spend for a weekly one-hour session at roughly AED 240 to 600 at budget level, AED 600 to 1,200 mid-market, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Our honest advice is to fund the child in an examination year at specialist level rather than funding both children thinly. Those figures are the market's, read in October 2026.

Will a tutor help my DP2 child finish their Extended Essay?+

A tutor will teach the criteria, read what your child has written, ask the questions that expose a weak argument, and point at the criterion a section is failing. A tutor will not supply sentences, restructure a draft into a finished piece, or produce any part of it for submission. We decline that, because the entry belongs to the student and material they did not produce puts the whole Diploma at risk. At least one provider in this market sells completed assessments; that is a trap for the student, not a service.

Does my child's own teacher in Abu Dhabi count as a legal private tutor?+

Not for your own child. Press reporting on ADEK's professional-ethics rules indicates private and charter school staff are barred from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE private tuition work permit carries a code of conduct that bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. Any paid private tutor in the UAE needs that permit, introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and issued free of charge for two years. Verify current ADEK policy before relying on the detail.

When is the best time to start tuition for the move into DP1?+

The weeks between the last IGCSE paper and the start of the new academic year. A student in that window has no competing coursework, so content taught then is absorbed rather than crammed alongside six new courses, Theory of Knowledge and an Extended Essay. For an Al Nahyan family whose child sits the June series, that is a genuine opportunity and it is also the period when specialist tutors have the most availability, because everyone else has stopped thinking about school.

What happens if no specialist covers our subject combination in Abu Dhabi?+

We tell you, rather than filling the slot with someone close enough. Availability is thinnest in Higher Level sciences, Economics and the less common languages, and tightest in the late-afternoon Gulf Standard Time window every family wants. The options are usually a different weekday slot, a weekend session, or a short wait for a named tutor. Where no specialist covers the combination at all, we say that plainly and explain what the realistic alternative looks like before you commit to anything.

How do we compare an IGCSE grade with a Diploma subject grade at home?+

Do not try. Cambridge reports A* to G, Pearson reports nine to one, the Diploma reports one to seven per subject against a forty-five point total, and the Middle Years Programme reports one to eight against criteria. None of those scales converts cleanly into another, and attempting the conversion between siblings causes more friction than information. The comparison that means something is each child against their own previous marked work on the same course, which is also the only comparison a tutor can usefully act on.

Match on the course, not on the postcode

Send us the two or three lines that matter: each child's school, board, course names and levels, plus the most recent marked paper or draft. We read them before the trial, match a specialist per course rather than per household, and put the sessions where your evening can actually hold them. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, and we do not offer home visits in Abu Dhabi because that is an India-only service. The trial is one lesson per child, you decide afterwards, and the figures on this page are the market's and dated so that you can check them.
