IB DP Psychology Tutor in Abu Dhabi

An IB DP Psychology tutor in Abu Dhabi is quoted between roughly AED 150 and AED 450 an hour at market rates, and this page sets out every variable that moves that number: Higher or Standard Level, how close the May session is, whether the internal assessment is still at proposal stage, and whether anybody is driving to Al Reem Island at five in the afternoon. Lessons from IB Gram run live online, one to one, scheduled on Gulf Standard Time around an Abu Dhabi school day.

IB & IGCSE in Abu Dhabi

What an Abu Dhabi family is really asking when they ask the price

Almost every Abu Dhabi parent who contacts us about IB Diploma Psychology opens with the same question, phrased as a price. They want to know what an IB DP Psychology tutor in Abu Dhabi costs. Underneath that question sits a harder one: how many hours of somebody's time this actually takes, and whether the number quoted reflects teaching or logistics. The two are routinely confused. A quote of AED 400 an hour for a tutor who drives from Khalifa City to Saadiyat Island contains a fee for Psychology and a fee for the Sheikh Khalifa Bridge at rush hour, and nobody itemises which is which.

This page itemises it. Market rates in the emirate, as read from published provider pages in October 2026, run from about AED 45 an hour for an undergraduate tutor working online to AED 650 an hour for a premium named tutor. Those are other people's published figures, attributed below, not ours. The spread is enormous because the label 'Psychology tutor' covers a first-year undergraduate who finished the course two years ago and a teacher who has marked several hundred Paper 1 short-answer responses against the real mark bands. Those two people are not selling the same hour.

Six things move an Abu Dhabi quote, and only one of them is the subject. Whether the student sits Higher or Standard Level changes the number of examined components from three to four. Whether the internal assessment is at proposal, data-collection or write-up stage changes whether the tutor is teaching content or supervising a 2,200-word report. The distance between the student's community and the tutor's determines whether travel is being billed. The weeks remaining before the May session change availability more than they change price. Group size changes the rate per student. Permit status changes who is legally able to take the booking at all.

Our model removes the travel variable entirely rather than discounting it. IB Gram does not send a tutor to an address in Abu Dhabi, and there are no home visits in the emirate; in-home tutoring is a service we run only in India. Everything for UAE families happens live, one to one, over video, with a shared screen for annotated past-paper responses. The practical consequence for a family in Al Reef or Yas Island is that the pool of available Psychology specialists stops being 'whoever can reach us by 4.30pm' and becomes 'whoever is free at 4.30pm Gulf Standard Time'.

The rest of the page is written to be used rather than skimmed. There is an AED rate table by component, a provider-model comparison showing who carries the permit obligation, a cost-in-context table that puts tuition next to an Abu Dhabi school fee, and a breakdown of where Psychology marks are actually gained and lost across Paper 1, Paper 2, Paper 3 and the IA. Every regulatory statement names its source. Every figure carries the date we read it.

At a glance

  • Market online rates for DP subject specialists: roughly AED 150-450 per hour, read October 2026
  • Published in-home rates in the emirate sit higher, roughly AED 180-500 per hour including travel
  • Higher Level Psychology adds a fourth examined component, so an HL plan is usually longer, not dearer per hour
  • IA supervision is priced as specialist work by every provider whose page we read
  • The MoHRE private tuition work permit is granted free of charge for two years, so no tutor may bill you for it
  • A first 50-minute online lesson in one subject is at no charge, with no card details taken
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Psychology belongs to Group 3 of the Diploma Programme, but Abu Dhabi students arrive at it from several different starting points. The three programmes below are the ones that feed DP Psychology classes in the emirate, and each produces a different gap in the first term.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13 · DP1 and DP2

Diploma Programme

Psychology sits in the individuals and societies group and is examined by written papers plus one internally assessed experimental report. Standard Level students sit two papers; Higher Level students sit three and study additional content across the biological, cognitive and sociocultural approaches. The subject looks deceptively readable, which is why so many students arrive in DP2 with good notes and weak command-term discipline.

Abu Dhabi DP cohorts are unusually mixed in prior schooling, because families move into the emirate mid-cycle from British, American, CBSE and francophone systems. A student who joins DP1 in October has often never written a 9-mark short-answer response to a command term, and that single skill carries more marks in Paper 1 than any content topic.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5

Middle Years Programme

MYP individuals and societies is assessed against four criteria using task-specific clarifications rather than examination mark bands. Students learn to investigate and communicate, which transfers well, and learn to write at length against descriptors, which transfers badly to a timed 22-mark Psychology essay. The MYP to DP step in this subject is mostly a step in assessment literacy.

Several Abu Dhabi schools run MYP through Year 11 and then offer the Diploma, so the transition happens inside one building and parents assume continuity. The first set of DP1 Psychology marks is frequently the moment that assumption breaks. A short block of work on command terms and essay structure in the autumn of DP1 is cheaper than the same work in February of DP2.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

The Career-related Programme pairs DP courses with a career-related study and a reflective project. A CP student may take DP Psychology as one of their Diploma courses and sit exactly the same papers, under the same criteria, as a full Diploma candidate. The difference is the surrounding load, not the standard of the subject.

CP is still thin on the ground in Abu Dhabi compared with the full Diploma, which means a CP student taking Psychology often has no classmate on the same pathway and little peer reference for pacing. One-to-one support becomes the comparison point they do not otherwise have, particularly for judging how long a 22-mark essay should take under exam conditions.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Psychology is rarely the only subject in the conversation. These are the Group 3 and adjacent courses Abu Dhabi families most often combine with it, with the specific pressure point each one brings to a Diploma timetable.

Psychology

HL and SL

Three approaches to behaviour, options chosen by the school, research methods throughout, and one experimental report. Marks are lost on command terms, on using a study without using its findings, and on evaluation that lists limitations instead of weighing them against the claim being made.

Psychology internal assessment

HL and SL, 20-25% of the grade

A replication of a simple published experiment, written up to a 2,200-word ceiling and marked out of 22 across criteria A to D. The commonest avoidable loss is in criterion C, where students report a statistic without stating what it means for the hypothesis they set.

Biology

HL and SL

Shares the biological approach's territory on neurotransmission, hormones and genetics, which helps, and competes for the same revision evenings, which does not. Students taking both often write Psychology answers that are too physiological and skip the behavioural claim the question asked about.

Business Management

HL and SL

A frequent Group 3 pairing in Abu Dhabi because of family business and finance interests. Both subjects reward applied evidence, but Business rewards a recommendation while Psychology rewards a judgement about evidence quality. Blurring the two costs evaluation marks.

Economics

HL and SL

Taken alongside Psychology by students heading for behavioural economics or management degrees. The diagram-and-definition discipline of Economics transfers usefully to Psychology terminology, though Economics essay structure is looser than a Psychology 22-mark response needs.

Global Politics

HL and SL

Overlaps with the sociocultural approach on identity, conformity and group behaviour. Students who take both have a genuine advantage on sociocultural questions, provided they keep political theory out of a Psychology answer that needs a named study and its findings.

Theory of Knowledge

Core, all DP students

The human sciences are a standing TOK example, and Psychology students have the best material in the cohort for it. Working the two together saves hours: a tutor can use the same methodological critique for a Psychology evaluation paragraph and a TOK exhibition commentary.

Extended Essay in Psychology

Core, 4,000 words

A popular choice in Abu Dhabi because the reading is accessible, which is exactly why it goes wrong. A good Psychology essay needs a narrow question answerable from published studies. Supervision here is process coaching and feedback on the student's own drafts, never authorship of any part of the text.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Shares the analytical-paragraph habit Psychology needs, but trains a student to interpret rather than to cite. The transfer is worth making explicit in a session: Psychology wants the study, the finding, and then the inference, in that order.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Carries the statistics that make the Psychology IA tractable. Students on this route generally handle measures of central tendency and a test of significance comfortably; students on Analysis and Approaches often need the applied statistics explained once, properly, before IA data collection.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats are available to an Abu Dhabi family, and they are priced differently because they contain different amounts of a tutor's attention. None of them involves a tutor travelling to a UAE address.

Weekly one-to-one, term-time

A fixed slot every week through DP1 and DP2, following the school's own sequence of approaches and options. The tutor sees the student's class notes and marked work, so the session addresses what the teacher actually set rather than a generic syllabus order. This is the format that produces the clearest week-by-week record.

  • 45, 60 or 90 minutes, held at the same time each week on Gulf Standard Time
  • Session notes after each lesson naming the command terms practised
  • Past-paper responses annotated on a shared screen during the lesson
  • Pause available during school examination weeks without losing the slot

Internal assessment supervision block

A short run of sessions covering experiment choice, operationalised hypotheses, ethical approval, data handling and the structure of a report inside a 2,200-word ceiling. The tutor reads drafts the student has written and returns criterion-referenced comments. No part of the report is produced by the tutor, and that boundary is stated to the student in the first session.

  • Four to six sessions, usually spread across six to ten weeks
  • Feedback written against criteria A, B, C and D by letter
  • Statistical test choice explained before data collection, not after
  • Ethics and consent discussed in terms of the school's own requirements

Pre-examination intensive

Timed-paper work in the final stretch before the May session, built around the student's own weakest components rather than a revision checklist. Each session includes writing under the clock, then marking against the published bands with the tutor, which is where most of the grade movement in this subject comes from.

  • Two or three sessions a week for a fixed number of weeks
  • Every session produces one timed response marked against the bands
  • Error log maintained across sessions so the same loss is not repeated
  • Scheduling adjusted around Ramadan timings and school mock weeks

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Abu Dhabi

01

What an IB DP Psychology tutor in Abu Dhabi costs, by component

  • Rates below were read from providers' published pages in October 2026 and are attributed
  • IB Gram's own commercial terms are quoted after a free first lesson, not published as a tariff
  • Nobody in the competitor set published a Psychology-specific rate, so these are DP subject bands
  • The MoHRE private tuition work permit is free for two years, so it is never a legitimate line item

An IB DP Psychology tutor in Abu Dhabi is quoted at roughly AED 150 to AED 450 an hour for online one-to-one work with a qualified subject specialist, with published in-home rates in the emirate running higher because they include travel. Those are market figures read from providers' own pages in October 2026. They are not IB Gram's price list, and no provider in the set we examined published a rate specific to Psychology at all.

The table below splits the market by what is actually being bought. The gap between a Standard Level term-time hour and an internal assessment supervision hour is real: the second involves reading a student's draft before the session and writing criterion-referenced comments after it, so the hour on the calendar is not the only hour spent. The gap between online and in-home is mostly distance. A tutor crossing from the mainland corridor to Saadiyat Island in the late afternoon is giving up a second bookable hour, and the quote reflects that whether or not the invoice says so.

Three of the six competitor pages we examined publish no price at all, and two of those that do quote in US dollars, which is not the currency an Abu Dhabi family transacts in. Publishing the band in AED, with attribution and a date, is the minimum a parent needs to judge whether a quote is reasonable. If a figure here looks low against what you have been quoted, the difference is usually travel, exam proximity or a tutor whose subject specialism is genuinely scarce in the emirate.

02

The six variables that move an Abu Dhabi Psychology quote

  • HL adds a component, so expect more weeks rather than a higher hourly figure
  • IA supervision carries preparation and marking time outside the booked hour
  • Travel is only in a quote when somebody is travelling
  • Late bookings before the May session trade choice of tutor, not price

Level comes first. Higher Level Psychology adds a third written paper and extra content across all three approaches, so an HL plan usually runs more weeks than an SL plan rather than costing more per hour. Parents often expect the reverse, and then find a quote that looks identical to the SL quote and assume the tutor has misunderstood. They have not. The hourly rate reflects the tutor; the total reflects the number of components.

Stage of the internal assessment comes second, and it is the single biggest swing. A tutor asked to teach content for an hour a week is doing one job. A tutor supervising a replication study, from choosing a simple published experiment through operationalising variables to a 2,200-word write-up, is reading drafts between sessions and returning comments mapped to criteria A to D. Providers that price those the same are either underpricing the second or overpricing the first.

The other four are proximity, timing, group size and permit status. Proximity only has a price if somebody is driving, which is why it disappears from an online quote. Timing changes availability rather than rate: in the eight weeks before the May session, the specialists with free evening slots on Gulf Standard Time are the constraint, not the money. Group size divides attention and the rate with it. Permit status determines who can lawfully take the booking at all, and that belongs in a separate section of this page because it is a legal question rather than a pricing one.

Online one-to-one against a tutor in the living room, priced honestly

  • Travel is the main difference between the two published bands, not teaching quality
  • Online widens the pool from 'who can drive here' to 'who is free at this hour'
  • Annotated responses are saved from a shared screen and reviewed the following week
  • Sessions can be split into two shorter slots, which no travelling tutor can offer economically

Home tutoring is a real market in Abu Dhabi and it exists for a real reason: some students concentrate better with another person physically present, and some families prefer a lesson they can see from the kitchen. It is worth saying what it costs and what it gives up, because the honest comparison makes the case better than a sales argument would. Published in-home rates in the emirate run roughly AED 180 to AED 500 an hour, against roughly AED 150 to AED 450 online for a comparable specialist, and the difference is travel rather than teaching.

What in-home buys is presence. What it costs, beyond the surcharge, is the size of the pool. A family in Al Shamkha choosing from tutors willing to drive out there in the late afternoon is choosing from a handful of people, few of whom will have taught DP Psychology options to examination. The same family choosing online is choosing from every specialist free at that hour. For a subject where the marks sit in command-term discipline and evaluation structure rather than in content coverage, specialism is worth more than proximity.

IB Gram does not send a tutor to an address in the UAE, and there are no home visits in Abu Dhabi: in-home tutoring is a service we run only in India. That is a limit on what we sell, stated plainly, and it is also why our Abu Dhabi matches are not constrained by a drive time. Lessons run over live video with a shared screen, which has one concrete advantage for this subject: a marked Paper 1 response can be annotated in front of the student and saved, so the same error is not made twice.

Where Psychology marks are gained and lost, component by component

Psychology rewards precision about evidence, and penalises fluent writing that never commits to a claim. Standard Level candidates sit two written papers plus the internal assessment. Higher Level candidates sit three written papers plus the internal assessment, with additional content and a paper built on an unseen description of a study. The weightings in the table below follow the subject guide in force for the current cohort; confirm them with your child's Diploma coordinator, because the IB revises guides on a rolling cycle and a stale weighting is worse than none.

Paper 1 is where the most marks are casually given away. The short-answer questions on the three approaches are command-term exercises: outline wants something different from explain, and describe wants something different again. Students who revise content and ignore command terms write good paragraphs that score in the middle band. The extended response in the second section needs a named study, its actual findings, and then an inference drawn from those findings. Many answers stop at the second step and lose the evaluation marks entirely.

Paper 2 and the Higher Level Paper 3 fail for different reasons. Paper 2 option essays fail on breadth: three studies mentioned in passing score lower than two studies used properly. Paper 3 fails on reading: the questions ask about the research described in the stimulus, not about research in general, and an answer that ignores the method actually used in the passage cannot access the upper bands. Both are coachable in a handful of sessions because both are structural rather than content gaps.

The internal assessment: 22 marks, four criteria, one word ceiling

  • Marked out of 22 across criteria A to D, with a 2,200-word ceiling
  • Operationalise the hypothesis before data collection, not in the write-up
  • Choose the statistical test before gathering data so the design supports it
  • Every comment a tutor returns names the criterion letter it applies to
  • Ethical requirements, including consent, follow the school's own procedures

The Psychology internal assessment is a replication of a simple published experiment, written up as a report with a 2,200-word ceiling and marked out of 22 marks across four criteria. Criterion A covers the introduction, criterion B the exploration of method and design, criterion C the analysis, and criterion D the evaluation. Naming the criteria by letter matters because the mark sheet a teacher completes is organised that way, and a student who has never seen it writes to a structure nobody is marking.

The predictable losses are the same every year. In criterion A, students summarise a study at length and never state a hypothesis in operationalised terms, so the introduction does not justify the investigation that follows. In criterion C, they report a measure of central tendency and a test of significance without saying what either means for the hypothesis. In criterion D, they list limitations as a checklist rather than weighing which of them actually threatens the conclusion. Each of those is a structural habit, and each can be fixed in one session with a draft on the screen.

There is a hard boundary on what any tutor may do here, and we state it to the student in the first session rather than burying it in terms and conditions. A tutor teaches method, explains statistics, asks questions about a draft the student has written, and returns comments mapped to the criterion letters. A tutor does not author any part of the submitted report, does not supply text to paste in, and does not hand over a finished investigation. Providers in this market that sell completed coursework are selling an academic-integrity breach that lands on the student, not on them.

06

Ethics and consent: what an Abu Dhabi Psychology student may actually run

  • Informed consent, right of withdrawal and debriefing are not optional
  • Studies involving minors or sensitive data are usually refused at proposal stage
  • The school's own ethics procedure sits on top of the IB's requirements
  • Choose a replicable experiment before writing the proposal, not after

Psychology is the one Diploma subject where the internal assessment involves other people, and that changes what is permissible. Participants must give informed consent, must be able to withdraw, must be debriefed, and must not be deceived in any way that could cause distress. Replications involving minors, clinical populations or sensitive personal data are generally ruled out before they start. These are IB requirements, applied through the school's own ethics procedure, and the school signs off before data collection begins.

In Abu Dhabi there is a further practical layer. Most students recruit participants from their own school, which means the school's permission is not a formality but the gatekeeper for the whole project. Schools licensed by ADEK, the Department of Education and Knowledge, apply their own safeguarding rules on top of the IB's, and those rules vary between institutions. A student who designs a study in October and asks for approval in January has often designed something the school will not allow, and loses weeks replacing it.

The sequence that works is unglamorous: pick a simple, well-documented experiment first, check it against the school's ethics requirements second, and only then write the proposal. A tutor's job in that sequence is to say which experiments replicate cleanly at sixth-form scale, which statistical test the design implies, and where a proposal will meet an obstacle. The approval itself belongs to the school, and no tutoring provider can grant, speed up or guarantee it.

07

Counting backwards from the May session

  • Cambridge offers UAE candidates a June series and a November series, and entries for each close months before the papers
  • Pearson Edexcel publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series and revises them, so always use the live PDF
  • No IB session or results date is published on this page; the Diploma coordinator is the source
  • School internal deadlines sit weeks before board deadlines and are the ones that bite

Examination boards work further ahead than families expect, and the deadline that catches people out is never the examination itself. Pearson's published key dates for International GCSE make the pattern plain. The November 2026 series is the clearest illustration available to a UAE family: the final timetable runs from late October to 19 November 2026, the entry window closed long before any of it, and the results do not reach students until the following January, the way the November 2025 results landed on 22 January 2026. Cambridge candidates in the UAE sit a June series and a November series, with entries closing well ahead of the papers in each. That is a board asking for commitments months before a paper is sat, and the IB operates on the same logic through the school rather than directly with parents.

For IB dates specifically, we publish no exam or results date on this page. The IB's own site blocks automated checking, so every date in circulation is second-hand, and a wrong date on a page like this costs a family more than a missing one. The reliable source is your child's Diploma coordinator, who holds the school's own internal deadline calendar: IA submission dates, Extended Essay checkpoints, the mock window and the upload deadlines that sit weeks before anything the IB publishes.

What a tutor can do is work backwards from whatever that calendar says. Internal assessment drafts need to exist well before the school's internal deadline, which itself sits well before the IB's. Timed-paper practice needs to start early enough that there is time to repeat the exercise after marking, which means a minimum of two attempts per component. Revision of Paper 2 options needs to be sequenced around the mock window rather than crammed after it. None of that requires knowing a published examination date; it requires knowing the school's.

Permits, ADEK ethics and who may lawfully tutor your child in Abu Dhabi

  • Permit basis: Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, issued through MoHRE
  • Granted free of charge for two years, with a two-working-day completion time
  • No published fine schedule exists, so no figure is quoted on this page
  • ADEK ethics rules, as reported, bar school staff from tutoring their own students
  • Verify current rules at mohre.gov.ae, u.ae and adek.gov.ae

Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit, and a parent paying for lessons in Abu Dhabi should know what that means. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is issued through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. According to u.ae, it is granted free of charge for two years, and eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. MoHRE's own service page lists the application route through its smart app, website and e-services system, with a two-working-day completion time and no fee.

The consequence for a family is a question worth asking out loud. u.ae states that individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so no amount appears here, and any provider quoting one is guessing. What you can do is ask a prospective tutor whether they hold the permit. Because it costs nothing and takes days, there is no good reason for a working tutor not to have one.

Abu Dhabi adds a layer that Dubai does not. Gulf News has reported that ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from giving paid private tuition to students enrolled at their own school, and that staff tutoring outside school hours must hold the MoHRE permit, whose code of conduct also bars serving students from their own school. That is press-reported rather than quoted from the policy document here, so verify it against the current ADEK publication before relying on it. The practical point stands either way: 'your child's own teacher, privately' is not a service a family in this emirate should be offered. IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation or licence from ADEK, KHDA, the Ministry of Education, the IB or any examination board, and nothing on this page should be read as implying otherwise.

09

Tuition cost in context, and what equivalency actually requires

  • Abu Dhabi school fees are regulated by ADEK, not by the Dubai announcement
  • British track: five IGCSE or GCSE subjects at no less than E or grade 3, excluding Arabic and Islamic education
  • Plus one A-Level at E or two AS-Levels at E, per the published requirement
  • No IB points figure is published here because none has been read on a Ministry source
  • Equivalency is run by the Ministry of Education; no tutoring provider can guarantee it

A tutoring figure means little without something to compare it to. Dubai's regulator, KHDA, confirmed in May 2026 that private school fees in that emirate would not rise for the 2026-27 academic year under an economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion. Abu Dhabi's fee regime is set separately by ADEK, so that announcement does not apply here, and the current fee position for any Abu Dhabi school should be read from the school and from adek.gov.ae. The reason the comparison matters is proportion: weekly tuition across a two-year Diploma is a material commitment next to a school fee, and it should be planned as one rather than booked by the hour indefinitely.

The second piece of context is what a Diploma is for locally. Students intending to study at a UAE university generally need their certificate recognised through the Ministry of Education's equivalency process. For the British track, the published requirements are specific: five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade no lower than E or grade 3, plus one accredited subject at Advanced Level at no less than E or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade, with Arabic and Islamic education not counted among the five. For the American track, English proficiency is evidenced by a score of 5 in IELTS academic, 61 in TOEFL iBT or 450 in the SAT reading and writing section, with at least 450 in SAT Mathematics.

For the Diploma itself, no points threshold is published here, because none has been read on a Ministry of Education source. One ranking competitor publishes a subject count for IGCSE that contradicts the figure above, which is a useful reminder to check the authority rather than the agency. Equivalency is a process the Ministry runs; IB Gram does not perform it, speed it up or guarantee any outcome in it, and tutoring is not a requirement for it. Verify the current rules on moe.gov.ae before making any decision that depends on them.

Where we tutor

Abu Dhabi communities, and what a 4pm Psychology session actually looks like there

Travel is the hidden line item in every in-home quote in this emirate, so it is worth being concrete about what distance does to an afternoon. These notes describe the commute reality each community faces, and what changes once the lesson is online.

Al Reem Island

Dense towers, school runs funnelling onto one bridge, and a 4.30pm arrival that an in-home tutor cannot reliably promise. Online sessions here start on the minute, which matters when a student has a Paper 1 timed essay to attempt before dinner.

Saadiyat Island

Villa communities with long internal roads, so a tutor's door-to-door time runs well beyond the bridge crossing. Families here most often book HL Psychology blocks around the IA, where a fixed weekly slot matters more than proximity.

Khalifa City and Al Raha

The corridor with the largest concentration of Diploma families in the emirate and the heaviest afternoon traffic towards the island. Evening slots after 6pm are the ones that actually hold here, and online delivery is what makes them possible.

Al Reef

Further out towards the airport, which is where in-home travel surcharges start appearing on quotes. A Psychology student in Al Reef gains more from a specialist on video than from whichever generalist is willing to make the drive.

Yas Island

Growing fast, with newer schools and younger Diploma cohorts, so sibling bookings are common. Separate online slots for two children in one household avoid the compromise of one tutor splitting an hour across two different subjects.

Al Bateen and Al Mushrif

Older established neighbourhoods on the island with well-settled school choices and more students sitting Psychology HL alongside Biology. Short, frequent sessions work better here than long weekend blocks, and video makes a 45-minute slot worth booking.

Masdar City and Mohammed Bin Zayed City

Two very different communities with the same problem: they sit off the main school-run routes, so the tutor pool within driving distance is small. Online removes the geography from the match and leaves only availability and subject fit.

Al Shamkha and Al Falah

Mainland communities where Diploma numbers are rising and specialist Group 3 coverage is thin on the ground locally. Families here are the clearest case for video delivery: the nearest Psychology specialist and the best one are rarely the same person.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi island and the Corniche

Students we support in these neighbourhoods attend schools across the island, several of which run the Diploma alongside other pathways. Programme availability changes between intakes, so check the current listing for any school on the ADEK school directory rather than relying on a tutoring page.

Khalifa City, Al Raha and the mainland corridor

This corridor sends us more Diploma enquiries than the rest of the emirate combined, Psychology among them. Families here are typically weighing a long drive against a fixed evening slot, which is the choice the comparison table further down this page is built to answer.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the component, not just the subject

A message saying 'DP2 Psychology HL, Paper 1 short answers are scoring 4 out of 9, IA at data-collection stage' gets a better match than one saying 'Psychology tutor in Abu Dhabi'. Name the level, the school's options if you know them, and the next deadline in the school calendar.

  2. 02

A free first lesson, with the terms stated

The first 50-minute online lesson in one subject is at no charge and no card details are taken. The tutor uses it to look at a piece of marked work and say what is actually costing marks. You decide afterwards whether to book, and there is no obligation either way.

  3. 03

Agree the plan and the price before the second lesson

After the free lesson you get a written plan: the number of sessions, what each one covers, and the rate in AED. Nothing recurring starts until you have agreed it. If the plan needs to be an IA supervision block rather than weekly content teaching, the tutor will say so rather than sell hours.

  4. 04

Fixed weekly slot on Gulf Standard Time

Sessions hold the same time each week so they survive a school term. Slots can shift for mock weeks, examination periods and Ramadan timings without losing the booking. Session notes after each lesson record what was practised and what the student is doing before the next one.

  5. 05

Review against the criteria, not against a feeling

Every few weeks the tutor reviews marked responses and criterion-referenced IA comments with you, by letter and band. If the pattern is not moving, the honest answer is sometimes a different tutor or a different format, and we would rather say that than keep a booking that is not working.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The price is itemised, not implied

This page publishes the AED band the Abu Dhabi market charges, attributed to the providers who published it and dated to October 2026. Three of the six competitor pages we examined publish no price at all. You should be able to tell whether a quote is reasonable before you speak to anybody.

Specialism instead of driving distance

Because lessons run online, the match is made from tutors who teach DP Psychology components to examination rather than from tutors who can reach Al Shamkha by five o'clock. For a subject whose marks sit in command terms and evaluation structure, that trade is worth more than physical presence.

A stated boundary on coursework

A tutor teaches method, explains statistics and comments on drafts the student has written, mapped to criterion letters. No part of a submitted report comes from the tutor. That boundary is stated to the student in the first session, because the integrity risk in this subject lands on the candidate.

Regulatory facts with sources attached

Permit rules are quoted from u.ae and mohre.gov.ae, equivalency requirements from the published Ministry clarification, and the ADEK ethics position is flagged as press-reported until verified. IB Gram holds no regulator or board approval and does not claim any.

Scheduling that survives an Abu Dhabi term

Slots are held on Gulf Standard Time and move around mock weeks, examination periods and Ramadan timings rather than lapsing. Families travelling between Abu Dhabi and abroad keep the same tutor and the same slot, which is the part an in-home arrangement cannot replicate.

Evidence you can look at

Annotated past-paper responses are saved from the shared screen, session notes name the command terms practised, and IA feedback is written by criterion letter. The record is what makes a review conversation about marks rather than about impressions.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Abu Dhabi: your questions answered

How much does an IB DP Psychology tutor in Abu Dhabi charge per hour?+

Market rates read from providers' own pages in October 2026 put a qualified DP subject specialist at roughly AED 150 to AED 300 an hour online, rising to about AED 200 to AED 450 for Higher Level and internal assessment supervision. Published in-home rates in the emirate run higher, roughly AED 180 to AED 500, because they include travel. Budget and undergraduate tutors advertise from around AED 45 to AED 150 online. Premium named tutors publish up to AED 650. Those are other providers' figures, attributed and dated. IB Gram quotes its own terms after a free first lesson rather than publishing a tariff.

Why is Psychology IA supervision priced higher than ordinary weekly lessons?+

Because the booked hour is not the only hour. Supervising a replication study means reading a draft before the session, checking whether the hypothesis is operationalised, confirming the statistical test suits the design, and writing comments mapped to criteria A to D afterwards. A content lesson has no work either side of it. Any provider charging the same for both is either underpricing the supervision or overpricing the teaching. Expect an IA block to be four to six sessions spread over six to ten weeks, with the heaviest preparation around the proposal and the first full draft.

Does Higher Level Psychology cost more per hour than Standard Level in Abu Dhabi?+

Usually not. The hourly figure reflects the tutor's specialism, and that is the same person teaching either level. What changes is the number of components: Higher Level adds a third written paper and extra content across the three approaches, so a Higher Level plan typically runs more weeks. Parents expecting an HL premium sometimes read an identical rate as a mistake. It is not. If you are budgeting, work from total sessions across the Diploma rather than from the hourly figure, and ask the tutor to map sessions to components.

Does IB Gram send a Psychology tutor to our home in Abu Dhabi?+

No. There are no home visits in Abu Dhabi or anywhere in the UAE; in-home tutoring is a service we run only in India. Every UAE lesson is one to one over live video, scheduled on Gulf Standard Time, with a shared screen for annotated past-paper work. The practical gain is the size of the tutor pool: instead of choosing from specialists willing to drive to your community in the late afternoon, you choose from everyone free at that hour. For a subject where marks turn on command-term discipline, that trade favours specialism.

Do private tutors in Abu Dhabi need a MoHRE permit, and should I ask for it?+

Yes, and yes. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is issued by MoHRE. u.ae states it is granted free of charge for two years, and that individuals tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so treat any figure you see as unverified. MoHRE's service page lists a two-working-day completion time through its app, website and e-services. Since it costs nothing, a working tutor has no reason not to hold one.

Can my child's own school Psychology teacher tutor them privately in Abu Dhabi?+

You should not be offered that. Gulf News has reported that ADEK's professional-ethics rules bar private and charter school staff from giving paid private tuition to students enrolled at their own school, and that the MoHRE permit's code of conduct also prohibits serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. That is press-reported rather than quoted from the policy document, so verify it on adek.gov.ae before relying on the exact wording. The safer route is a specialist with no connection to the school, which also removes any conflict over marking internal work.

What is the word limit on the DP Psychology internal assessment?+

The report is written to a 2,200-word ceiling and marked out of 22 marks across four criteria: A for the introduction, B for the exploration of method and design, C for the analysis, and D for the evaluation. Going over the ceiling costs marks without adding any. Most over-length drafts we see are long in the introduction and short in the analysis, which is the wrong way round for the mark allocation. Confirm the current ceiling and criterion marks with your child's teacher, since the IB revises subject guides on a rolling cycle.

Where do Abu Dhabi students lose the most marks in Psychology Paper 1?+

On command terms. The short-answer questions reward exactly what the verb asks for, and outline, describe and explain want different things. Students who revise content thoroughly and ignore the verb write competent paragraphs that land in the middle band. The extended response loses marks differently: it needs a named study, the finding that study actually produced, and then an inference from that finding. Many answers stop after the study and never reach the judgement, which is where the evaluation marks live. Both faults are structural, so a handful of marked timed attempts usually moves them.

What exactly may an Abu Dhabi tutor do on a Psychology replication report?+

Yes, within a clear boundary. A tutor may teach experimental method, explain which statistical test a design implies, discuss ethics requirements, ask questions about a draft the student has written, and return comments mapped to the criterion letters. A tutor may not author any part of the submitted report, supply text to paste in, or hand over a finished investigation. Providers in this market that sell completed coursework are selling a malpractice risk that falls on the candidate. We state that boundary to the student in the first session rather than in small print.

What ethical approval does a Psychology IA need in an Abu Dhabi school?+

Participants must give informed consent, be able to withdraw, and be debriefed, and they must not be deceived in any way likely to cause distress. Studies involving minors, clinical populations or sensitive personal data are generally refused at proposal stage. On top of the IB's requirements, the school applies its own safeguarding procedure, and schools licensed by ADEK differ in how strictly they interpret it. The sequence that works is to choose a replicable experiment first, check it against the school's rules second, and write the proposal third.

How many sessions does a DP2 Psychology student in Abu Dhabi usually start with?+

Most families start with one weekly slot and add an internal assessment block when the proposal is due. In the final stretch before the May session that often becomes two or three sessions a week for a fixed number of weeks, each producing one timed response marked against the published bands. We would rather agree a fixed block with an end date than sell an open-ended weekly booking. If the marked work stops moving, the right answer is sometimes a different tutor or a different format, and we will say so.

Can Psychology sessions move around Ramadan and Abu Dhabi school mock weeks?+

Yes. Slots are held rather than fixed in stone, so they shift to post-Iftar timings during Ramadan and pause or lighten during school mock weeks and examination periods without losing the booking. That flexibility is easier online than with any travelling arrangement, because nobody is planning a drive around the change. Families who move between Abu Dhabi and abroad during school holidays usually keep the same tutor and the same hour, adjusting only for the time difference, which keeps continuity through the part of the year when most revision slips.

Is it too late to start Psychology tutoring eight weeks before the May session?+

It is late, and it is not pointless, but what changes is the plan rather than the price. Eight weeks is enough for timed-paper technique, command-term discipline and option-essay structure, which is where most retrievable marks in this subject sit. It is not enough to rebuild two years of content coverage, and a provider promising otherwise is selling something it cannot deliver. The constraint at that point is availability: the specialists with free evening slots on Gulf Standard Time are fewer in the weeks before a session than in October.

What does the free first Psychology lesson actually include?+

One 50-minute lesson in one subject, at no charge, with no card details taken and no obligation to continue. The tutor looks at a recent piece of marked work, usually a Paper 1 response or an IA section, and says specifically what is costing marks against the published criteria. You then get a written plan with the number of sessions, what each covers and the rate in AED, and nothing recurring begins until you have agreed it. If the honest answer is that tutoring is not what your child needs, the tutor will say that instead.

Does IB Gram have ADEK or IB approval for its Abu Dhabi Psychology tutoring?+

No, and any provider claiming it should be asked for the permit or centre number. IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation, licence or partnership from ADEK, KHDA, the Ministry of Education, the IB or any examination board, and does not operate an office or centre in the UAE. What exists is a permit regime for individual tutors through MoHRE, and a separate KHDA educational services permit for training institutes with premises in Dubai. Naming a regulator and explaining what it does is legitimate. Implying its endorsement is not.

Start with one marked Psychology response, not a package

The most useful first step is not a decision about hours. It is putting one marked Paper 1 response or one IA section in front of a DP Psychology specialist and hearing precisely where the marks went. That is what the free 50-minute online lesson is for: one subject, no card details, no obligation. You will come out of it with a written plan, the rate in AED, and an honest view of whether weekly lessons, an internal assessment block or nothing at all is the right call for your child this term. Lessons run live online from any community in Abu Dhabi, held on Gulf Standard Time.
