Cambridge IGCSE Arabic First Language 0508 Tutor in Abu Dhabi

A Cambridge IGCSE Arabic First Language 0508 tutor in Abu Dhabi usually costs more per hour than a maths or science tutor, and almost nobody explains why. This page gives you the market rate bands in AED, the five things that move a quote up or down in this emirate, and what the money actually buys inside a 0508 reading or writing paper. Lessons are one-to-one and delivered live online, timed to Gulf Standard Time around Abu Dhabi school hours.

What you are actually paying for when you hire a 0508 tutor in Abu Dhabi

Arabic as a First Language is the one subject on an Abu Dhabi timetable where families routinely assume tutoring is unnecessary and then pay for it in Year 11 anyway. The child speaks Arabic at home, speaks it in the corridor, argues in it at dinner, and comes back with a C. Nothing is wrong with the Arabic. What is wrong is the match between a confident spoken dialect and a paper that assesses Modern Standard Arabic under timed conditions, with a summary task that rewards compression and a composition task that rewards register control. That gap is a teaching problem, and teaching problems have prices.

Those prices are published almost nowhere. Three of the six tutoring sites that rank for Abu Dhabi queries show no figure at all, and the two that do quote in US dollars, a currency no family here transacts in. So this page starts with the numbers. Market rates for a qualified subject tutor working online in the UAE run roughly AED 150 to AED 300 an hour, with Unitors advertising IGCSE support from AED 150. Specialist exam-year rates reach AED 200 to AED 450 and beyond, and Bestimate's 2026 Dubai rate table puts in-home visits at AED 180 to AED 350. First-language Arabic sits at the upper end of whichever band applies, for one reason, and the reason is supply.

Supply is the thing nobody prices openly. Abu Dhabi has a deep bench of Arabic speakers and a thin bench of people who have marked 0508 scripts. ADEK, the Department of Education and Knowledge, supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate, and every private school here must provide Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies alongside whatever international curriculum it is licensed for. That federal requirement creates steady demand for Arabic teachers inside schools and leaves fewer of them free at five o'clock on a Tuesday. A first-language Arabic specialist is harder to replace than a maths tutor of the same standing, and the hourly rate reflects it.

The second price driver is what you ask the tutor to do. A session spent on vocabulary is cheap to deliver and slow to show results. A session spent marking a timed composition against the criteria, naming the three register slips that cost marks, and rewriting one paragraph together is harder to prepare and faster to show results. The same hourly rate buys either. Families who treat 0508 as a reading-comprehension problem tend to buy more hours than families who treat it as a written-accuracy problem, because the reading paper improves as a by-product of better writing far more often than the reverse.

The third is timing, and this is where Abu Dhabi families lose the most money. Entry deadlines sit months before the paper. Cambridge examines IGCSE in a June series and a November series, and an Abu Dhabi centre on a September-to-June year almost always enters June, holding November in reserve as the resit route. Count that June window backwards and the lead time is the point: entries close in the spring, several months ahead of the first paper, and the precise date reaches you on the centre's statement of entry rather than from any public timetable page. The published series that shows the same shape in hard dates is Pearson's International GCSE November 2026, whose final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026 while its entry window had already shut weeks before the autumn term settled. The same arithmetic governs 0508: once the school submits the entry, the syllabus, the components and the date are fixed, and the only variable left is how many weeks your child has to work with. Booking a scarce Arabic First Language specialist in September costs less per hour than booking the same person in April.

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Arabic runs through an Abu Dhabi school from the first year to the last. Cambridge 0508 is one stage on that route, and the stage before it and the stage after it both change what a tutor should be doing with the hour. These are the levels we support around the IGCSE year, and what each one is for.

LSECAges 11-14 · Years 7-9

Cambridge Lower Secondary Arabic

The three years before the IGCSE course, where first-language Arabic either becomes a written subject or quietly stays a spoken one. Work here is about moving from confident speech to controlled Modern Standard Arabic on paper: sentence-level accuracy, paragraphing, and the habit of planning before writing. A student who leaves Year 9 able to write three hundred accurate words to a prompt starts the 0508 course with the hard part already behind them.

In Abu Dhabi this is the stage where the Arab and non-Arab Arabic streams diverge sharply, because schools teach the two groups to different expectations and in different languages of instruction. Families who arrive mid-Year 8 from a school with no Arabic provision feel it most, and that is the point at which a single term of catch-up support costs the least.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE Arabic as a First Language (0508)

Two assessed components: a reading paper built on Arabic passages with comprehension and summary tasks, and a writing paper asking for extended composition in a set form. Marks move on precision rather than on fluency: summarising without copying, writing to a register, holding tense and agreement together under time pressure. Confirm the component structure and weightings for your child's series on cambridgeinternational.org, because syllabuses are revised by series.

Most Abu Dhabi private schools enter first-language Arabic candidates for the June series, with November used for resits and for students who joined late in the course. The entry decision belongs to the school, not to a tutor, and it is worth asking the head of Arabic which syllabus code appears on the entry sheet before you buy any tuition at all.

ALEVELAges 16-18 · Years 12-13

Cambridge International AS and A Level Arabic

The route after a strong 0508 grade for students who intend to keep Arabic as an examined subject. The work shifts from controlled composition to literary and discursive writing, and students who reached a high grade at IGCSE by memorising model answers tend to stall here. Tutoring at this level is mostly argument structure and use of evidence, with accuracy assumed rather than taught.

Some Abu Dhabi schools offer A Level Arabic and many do not, which is why students in this emirate often carry Arabic forward through the IB instead. Either route keeps the language on a transcript that a UAE university or a Gulf employer will read, and both start from the same 0508 foundation.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Arabic A: Language and Literature

The IB alternative for a first-language speaker, taken at HL or SL. Assessment rests on prescribed texts, comparative essay work and oral commentary rather than on a single composition paper, so the skills a 0508 student built transfer unevenly. The student who learned to summarise an argument transfers well; the student who relied on fixed phrases does not.

Several Abu Dhabi IB World Schools run Arabic A, and families here usually choose between it and A Level Arabic in the spring of Year 11. We teach both, and the honest answer normally depends on which one your child's school actually timetables rather than on which looks stronger in the abstract.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

A 0508 problem rarely arrives alone. The Abu Dhabi families who ask for first-language Arabic support are usually managing two or three other subjects in the same exam year, and the scheduling matters nearly as much as the teaching. These are the components we are asked for most often alongside Arabic as a First Language 0508.

Arabic as a First Language (0508): reading and summary

Cambridge IGCSE

The comprehension passage and the summary task, where marks go to students who compress an argument into their own words. The common loss is lifting phrases from the passage, which earns little even when the content selected is right.

Arabic as a First Language (0508): directed and extended writing

Cambridge IGCSE

Composition under time, judged on content, structure and accuracy. Most recoverable marks sit in agreement, verb tense and sentence-length control rather than in ideas, which is why marking drafts beats generating new essay topics.

Arabic as a Foreign Language (0544)

Cambridge IGCSE

The learner route, with listening and reading alongside writing. It matters on this page because heritage speakers are sometimes entered for it, and because siblings in one Abu Dhabi household are often split across the two syllabus codes.

Islamic Education

School syllabus, Arabic medium for Arab students

Required alongside the licensed curriculum in UAE private schools and taught in Arabic for Arab students, so a slow Arabic reading speed shows up in this grade too. Support here is reading fluency and structured written answers rather than content recall.

UAE Social Studies and Moral Education

School syllabus

Also required, and for Arab students taught primarily in Arabic. Students who are strong orally but slow readers lose marks on source-based questions rather than on knowledge, which is a reading-rate problem a 0508 tutor already works on.

English as a Second Language (0510 and 0511)

Cambridge IGCSE

The subject most often paired with 0508 on an Abu Dhabi timetable. The two papers reward opposite instincts, since ESL rewards clarity and brevity while 0508 rewards developed register, and students sometimes carry the wrong habit into the wrong paper.

Mathematics (0580)

Core and Extended

The scheduling partner rather than the content partner. It appears here because a Year 11 student with maths on Monday and Arabic on Wednesday needs protecting from a revision plan that silently hands every spare hour to maths.

First Language English (0500)

Cambridge IGCSE

Taken by many of the same students, with a near-identical summary skill assessed in the other language. Teaching the summary technique once and applying it in both languages is one of the few genuine shortcuts available in this exam year.

Co-ordinated Sciences (0654)

Double award, Core and Extended

Included because extended-response marks in science depend on written precision. Students who tighten their Arabic composition in a term often tighten their science explanations in the same term, without anyone teaching the science differently.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways to buy 0508 support in Abu Dhabi, with the price and the trade-off attached to each. All of our teaching is one-to-one and delivered over live video; the in-home column exists further down because it is what the local market sells and what parents compare us against.

Weekly one-to-one online

The default: a sixty or ninety-minute slot at the same time each week, held over live video with a shared screen for marking. The tutor works to your child's school scheme and to the Cambridge assessment criteria, then sends a short note naming what moved. Market rates for comparable qualified online tuition in the UAE sit around AED 150 to AED 300 an hour, which is the band to measure any quote against.

  • Same tutor, same slot, booked in Gulf Standard Time
  • Compositions marked against published criteria, not just corrected in red
  • A written note after every session naming the next target
  • Sessions moved or cancelled with reasonable notice

Exam-term intensive before the series

A short block of twice-weekly sessions across the eight to ten weeks before the paper, built around timed writing rather than new content. This is where Abu Dhabi families spend the most and should spend it most carefully: rates across the market rise as the series approaches, and the gain comes from marked timed work rather than from extra topics.

  • Two sessions a week, each ending in a timed task
  • One marked composition every week, against the same criteria each time
  • Priority given to the component holding the most recoverable marks
  • Entry details confirmed with the school before the block starts

Household scheduling for siblings on different syllabuses

Two children in one Abu Dhabi household rarely need the same syllabus, with one on 0508 and the other on 0544 or Hindi 0549, but they do need the same evening to work. We schedule back-to-back slots with different specialists rather than asking one tutor to cover both routes, because the two syllabuses reward genuinely different things.

  • Back-to-back slots on a single evening
  • A specialist per syllabus code rather than one generalist
  • One consolidated progress note per household
  • A separate trial lesson, so each child meets their own tutor

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Abu Dhabi

01

What a 0508 tutor costs in Abu Dhabi, and who publishes what

Start with the number, because most of this market refuses to. Rates for private tuition in the UAE separate into clear bands. Budget online tutoring, usually delivered by university students, advertises from AED 45 to AED 65 at EdFlik and from roughly AED 33 to AED 52 at Tutopiya. A qualified subject tutor working online sits between AED 150 and AED 300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE support from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. In-home visits, which carry the tutor's travel inside the price, are put at AED 180 to AED 350 in Bestimate's 2026 Dubai rate table, and independent home tutors advertise up to AED 500 an hour.

First-language Arabic sits high within whichever band applies, and the reason is not prestige. The pool of people who can teach Modern Standard Arabic composition against a published mark scheme is far smaller than the pool who speak Arabic fluently, and most of the qualified ones already teach full timetables in private schools licensed by ADEK. Scarcity, not difficulty, is what the premium buys. An agency that quotes AED 180 for 0580 maths and AED 260 for 0508 Arabic is not claiming Arabic is harder; it is telling you how many people it can call.

What the figures below are not: our price list. These are market rates read off competitor pages and a published rate table, with the source named so you can check them yourself. Our own model starts with a free trial lesson and a conversation about how many hours the gap actually needs, because the honest answer for a Year 10 student who already writes accurately is often fewer hours than a family expects, and for a Year 11 student two months out it is often more than they want to hear.

Treat any quote that arrives without a named format, a session length and a stated number of weeks as incomplete. Three figures decide what you spend: the hourly rate, the length of the session and the number of weeks. Families negotiate hard on the first, accept the second without thinking, and underestimate the third, which is the one that decides the total.

Five things that move an Abu Dhabi 0508 quote

Two families on the same street in Khalifa City can be quoted rates that differ threefold for what looks like the same lesson, and the difference is almost never the quality of the tutor's Arabic. Five variables set the number. Four of them are yours to set, which makes a quote a negotiation about scope rather than a fixed price you either accept or refuse.

Scarcity is the variable you do not control. Fewer first-language Arabic specialists are free on an Abu Dhabi weekday evening than chemistry tutors, and the gap widens in the ten weeks before a series, when every Year 11 cohort in the emirate starts looking at once. Booking in September for a June paper costs less per hour than booking in April for the same person, for the same reason a flight does. The second variable is session length: a ninety-minute slot usually carries a lower effective hourly rate than a sixty-minute one, and for a writing subject it is also more useful, because a timed composition plus marking does not fit inside an hour.

The third is what the tutor is asked to do with the time. Vocabulary coaching is cheap to prepare and slow to show results. Criteria-based marking of a timed composition takes longer to prepare and shows results faster, and it is the thing a Year 11 grade actually responds to. The fourth is format: in-home rates carry travel across Abu Dhabi inside the hour, which is why the market charges AED 180 to AED 350 for a visit against AED 150 to AED 300 for the same teaching delivered online.

The fifth is who is being taught. Two children in one household on separate syllabus codes is two bookings with two specialists, not one shared hour at a discount. Agencies that offer the shared hour are usually putting a generalist in front of both, and on a language syllabus that is the single worst place to economise, because 0508 and 0544 reward opposite instincts.

Where an Arabic grade is counted, and where it is not

Before you decide how much to spend, it helps to know what the grade is for. The UAE Ministry of Education's equivalency requirements for the British track ask for passes in five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, plus one accredited subject at Advanced Level at grade E or above, or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects. That is sourced, and it is the opposite of what one ranking competitor publishes, which tells UAE candidates they must take six IGCSE subjects.

What follows from that is narrow but useful. Money spent on 0508 is not money spent on equivalency, so no agency should sell you Arabic tuition on the grounds that your child's certificate will not be recognised without it. Equivalency is a Ministry process with its own channel, and no tutoring company performs it, speeds it up or guarantees its outcome. Describe it, check it on moe.gov.ae or with your emirate's attestation channel, and treat any urgency added by a sales conversation as a reason for scepticism.

The 0508 grade still matters, just elsewhere. It decides sixth-form progression at most Abu Dhabi schools, it is what an Arabic department reads before admitting a student to A Level Arabic or IB Arabic A, and it appears on a transcript that a UAE university or a Gulf employer may well read in Arabic. Those are real reasons to spend on it. The recognition of a British-track certificate is not one of them.

The table below separates the two, because the confusion between them is where a sales conversation does its work. Verify every row in the right-hand column rather than taking it from a tutoring site, including this one.

04

The two 0508 components, and which hours pay back fastest

0508 is assessed by a reading paper and a writing paper. That sounds like two equal problems and is not. The reading paper contains a comprehension sequence and a summary task, and the summary task is the most teachable thing on the whole syllabus: it has a method, the method can be learned in a handful of sessions, and students who have never been taught it lose marks consistently rather than randomly. The usual error is reproducing the passage in the passage's own order and running out of space before the last point, which looks like a language problem and is actually a planning problem.

The writing paper is slower to move. Content and structure respond to teaching within a few drafts, because they are decisions a student makes before writing. Accuracy under time does not: agreement, tense and sentence control hold up in a relaxed homework and collapse in the exam room, which means the only treatment that works is weekly timed writing with the same criteria applied every time. A tutor who explains the rule again is not treating the problem. A tutor who makes your child write to the clock, then shows them their own three recurring errors in their own handwriting, is.

Register is the third issue and the one specific to heritage speakers in Abu Dhabi. A student who reads and speaks Arabic daily writes down spoken forms without noticing, because nothing in their environment flags them. Marks for standard written forms are lost silently. This is visible within a term of marked work and takes about that long to fix, which is why the autumn term of Year 11 is worth more than the spring term at the same price.

The ranking below is about rate of return, not importance. Spend the first block of hours where the marks come back quickest, then move to the slow work with whatever time is left.

Cost in context: what a 0508 plan adds to an Abu Dhabi school year

An hourly rate is almost useless on its own. What a family needs is the total, set against the other numbers already in the household budget, and that total depends on arithmetic nobody in this market shows. The table below runs it at the middle of the published band, AED 200 an hour, so you can scale it to whatever quote you are holding. Nothing in it is our price list; it is the market band multiplied by a plan.

Two patterns come out of it. The first is that a term of weekly ninety-minute sessions costs roughly what two weeks of twice-weekly exam-term sessions cost, and buys considerably more change, because written accuracy responds to repetition over months rather than intensity over weeks. The family that starts in September spends less and gets more than the family that starts in April and panics. The second is that the in-home premium, across a full term, is large enough to notice: at the published visit rate, the travel built into the hour costs about the same as three extra sessions.

The one figure we will not estimate is the exam entry. Entry fees for a private candidate are set by the exam centre rather than by Cambridge, and they vary between centres in the same emirate, so ask the centre your child is entered through. If your child sits as a school candidate, the entry is normally inside the school fee and there is nothing extra to budget for, but the school's internal deadline for confirming it is often earlier than parents expect.

Read the table as a planning tool rather than a quotation. A plan that produces one marked composition a week for twelve weeks is a different purchase from a plan that produces twelve hours of conversation, even when the invoice is identical.

Permits, ethics, and why the cheapest 0508 quote in Abu Dhabi can be the riskiest

Private tutoring in the UAE is permitted work, not unregulated work. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, it is issued through MoHRE, and it is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, university students, and school students aged fifteen to eighteen. MoHRE's own service page, Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time, applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website or e-services system.

The enforcement position is equally plain and equally worth knowing: individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. No fine schedule has been published, so any page quoting you an amount is guessing, and we will not repeat the figure circulating online. What matters for a parent is simpler. Ask the question. A tutor who holds the permit will answer it in a sentence, and the permit costs them nothing to hold.

Abu Dhabi adds a condition the rest of the country does not emphasise as sharply. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff have been reported as prohibiting teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and the permit's own code of conduct has been reported as barring the same thing. Verify the current wording against ADEK's own policy document before relying on it. The practical rule holds either way: do not ask your child's own Arabic teacher to tutor your child for a fee, however convenient it looks, and be wary of any agency that offers to arrange it.

This is the real risk inside a very cheap quote. A rate well below the budget band usually means an unpermitted tutor, an unqualified one, or someone tutoring students they are not allowed to take. None of those three is a saving.

Online, in-home or a tuition centre: the Abu Dhabi arithmetic

Families here compare three things, so this page compares them honestly. Say the plain part first: IB Gram does not send a tutor to your address anywhere in the UAE, and home visits are a service we offer only in India. Every 0508 lesson for an Abu Dhabi family is one-to-one and delivered over live video. That is a limit, and it is also the reason we can put a first-language Arabic specialist in front of a child in Al Reef on a Tuesday evening.

The in-home market in this emirate is real and it is priced accordingly. Bestimate's 2026 table puts a visit at AED 180 to AED 350 an hour, against AED 150 to AED 300 for comparable qualified teaching online, and the gap is travel. Travel is not only money. A tutor who drives from the island to Khalifa City in the evening arrives inside a window rather than at a time, and a lesson that starts twelve minutes late ends twelve minutes early, because the next family is waiting. Across a term that is a session and a half of teaching lost to the Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Street at six o'clock.

The deeper difference is the pool. An in-home tutor must live within a reasonable drive of your community, which in practice means your child is taught by whichever Arabic specialist happens to live nearby and happens to be free. Online, the constraint is only the overlap with Gulf Standard Time, and the question becomes who has actually marked 0508 compositions. For a scarce language syllabus that is the whole argument, and it is why we took the decision this way round rather than defending it after the fact.

A tuition centre is the third option, cheaper per student and worse suited to this particular subject. Group teaching cannot mark twelve different compositions against the criteria in an hour, and 0508 marks move through individual marking. Use a centre for subjects where a worked example on a board helps everyone at once.

How many sessions a 0508 student needs, by starting point

Three starting points cover most of what we see in Abu Dhabi, and the honest hour counts differ by a factor of four. The first is the fluent speaker in Year 10 whose reports say the Arabic is strong and the marks say otherwise. This student usually needs the summary method and a term of marked composition: around twelve to sixteen sessions across two terms, mostly ninety minutes, with the heavier work in the autumn. Started early, this is the cheapest version of the problem and the one with the most predictable outcome.

The second is the student who arrived in the emirate during the course, often from a school with lighter Arabic provision or none. Here the gap is content as well as technique, and the work has to establish written forms before it can polish them. Expect twenty to thirty sessions, expect the first six to feel slow, and expect the school's entry decision between 0508 and 0544 to be live rather than settled. That decision is worth more than any six sessions, which is why we raise it in the trial lesson rather than after a month of teaching.

The third is the Year 11 student eight weeks from the paper. This is the version families ask about most and the version where honesty costs us money. Eight weeks of twice-weekly timed writing will reliably move the summary task and the structure marks on the composition. It will not reliably move deep accuracy, because accuracy under pressure is a habit built over months. We say so before the block is booked, and we aim the hours at what can actually move rather than selling the full course at a sprint.

If no first-language Arabic specialist is free in the slot an Abu Dhabi family needs, we say that too, with the next realistic slot and the option to wait. The alternative, putting a general Arabic speaker in front of a 0508 composition, is how families end up paying twice.

09

What a tutor may and may not do with your child's Arabic writing

This matters more on a language syllabus than on any other, because the deliverable looks like something a tutor could simply supply. A tutor may teach the form, model a paragraph on a different prompt, mark your child's own work against the published criteria, explain why a sentence lost a mark, and set the next timed task. A tutor may not supply sentences that go into something your child submits, rewrite a piece into a finished state, or hand over material to be copied. The line is not subtle, and it is the student who carries the consequence when it is crossed.

One site ranking in this market sells completed Internal Assessments outright. We will not name it and we will not imitate it. Boards treat submitted work that is not the candidate's own as malpractice, and the penalty lands on the child, not on the person who sold it. Any tutoring page that offers to produce assessed work for you is telling you something useful about how it treats the rest of its promises.

In practice the boundary makes the teaching better rather than worse. A marked composition that still contains your child's own three recurring errors is diagnostic. A composition improved by someone else is a clean sheet of paper with no information in it. Parents who ask us to tidy a draft before it goes to school are usually asking for reassurance, and the useful answer is a marking record that shows the same error disappearing over four weeks.

You should expect to see that record. Every session produces something marked, the criteria used are the published ones, and the note that follows names what changed and what is next. If a tutor cannot show you which criterion a mark came off, there is nothing to audit and no way to tell whether the hours worked.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi spreads across the island, the Khalifa City and Al Raha corridor, and the newer mainland communities, and the distance between a family and a first-language Arabic specialist is the whole reason this page exists. Online delivery removes that distance. Here is how the geography affects a weekday session.

Khalifa City

Villa communities feeding Al Yasmina Academy and GEMS American Academy, with school runs that finish late enough to make a four o'clock start unrealistic. A six or seven o'clock slot, once the commute has settled, is what most families here actually book.

Al Raha Beach and Al Raha Gardens

A dense cluster of British and IB families near Raha International School. Arabic requests here split between non-Arab students on the 0544 route and heritage speakers whose written Arabic lags well behind their speech.

Saadiyat Island

Cranleigh Abu Dhabi and the university campuses set the pattern: long days and tight evenings. Two shorter midweek sessions work better for Saadiyat students than one long weekend block, because fatigue costs more marks than missing content does.

Al Reem Island

High-rise living with Repton School Abu Dhabi and Sorbonne nearby. Sessions are the easiest in the emirate to schedule because there is no school-run drive at the end of them, which is why Al Reem families often take the five o'clock slot others cannot use.

Al Mushrif and Al Bateen

The older island neighbourhoods around The British School Al Khubairat, Al Bateen Academy and the French schools. The highest concentration of Arabic-speaking households in this list, and the source of most of our first-language rather than foreign-language requests.

Al Reef and Al Shamkha

Mainland communities where the drive to a tuition centre on the island can cost more time than the lesson itself. The AED a family would otherwise spend on a tutor's travel buys an extra half-hour of teaching instead.

Yas Island

A newer cluster with growing school provision, and the area where we are asked most often whether a tutor will come to the villa. The comparison table further down sets out what online delivery gives back in exchange.

Mohammed Bin Zayed City and Mussafah

Large Arabic-speaking and South Asian communities with Cambridge and Indian curricula running side by side. Requests from this area are frequently split between 0508 and Hindi 0549 inside the same household.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Abu Dhabi

Khalifa City, Al Raha and Al Reef

The corridor where most of the emirate's British and IB villa families live. Students we support here usually need first-language Arabic to catch up with an already strong English profile, and the Arabic grade is the one holding back a sixth-form application.

  • Al Yasmina Academy
  • GEMS American Academy Abu Dhabi
  • Raha International School
  • Abu Dhabi International School
  • Emirates National School Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi island: Al Mushrif, Al Bateen and Al Reem

Long-established island schools with the deepest Arabic departments in the emirate. Requests here tend to be about a specific component rather than a whole course, most often the summary task or accuracy under timed conditions.

  • The British School Al Khubairat
  • Al Bateen Academy
  • Brighton College Abu Dhabi
  • Repton School Abu Dhabi
  • American Community School of Abu Dhabi
  • Al Muna Academy

Mainland Abu Dhabi: Mohammed Bin Zayed City, Al Shamkha and Mussafah

Large Cambridge and Indian-curriculum schools serving the mainland communities. Households here are the most likely to need two different language syllabuses taught on the same evening to two different children.

  • GEMS Cambridge International School Abu Dhabi
  • Emirates National School Mohammed Bin Zayed
  • Al Nahda National Schools
  • Al Ittihad National Private School
  • Bright Riders School Abu Dhabi

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the syllabus code and the series

Send the code on your child's entry sheet, 0508 or 0544, the series the school has entered them for, and the most recent Arabic report or marked composition. That is enough to tell whether the problem is reading technique, written accuracy or register, which is what decides the number of hours and therefore the price.

  2. 02

Take the free trial lesson, with marking in it

The trial is a real lesson rather than a sales call. The tutor sets a short timed task, marks it against the published criteria while your child watches, and names the two things that would move the grade first. You hear the same summary afterwards, in the same words, with no plan attached yet.

  3. 03

Get a written plan with the price attached

The plan names the component to attack first, the number of sessions, the session length and what each week produces. The market rate context from this page sits beside it, so you can measure the quote against an Abu Dhabi agency rather than taking our word for what is reasonable.

  4. 04

Weekly sessions that end in marked work

Same tutor, same slot in Gulf Standard Time, over live video. Every session produces something marked, whether a summary, a paragraph or a full composition, plus a short note naming the next target. Nothing is marked that your child did not write, and nothing is written for them.

  5. 05

Review before the school's entry deadline

Before the final entry date we check whether the plan still fits: whether the component priority was right, whether the hours were enough, and whether the syllabus code on the entry sheet is still the right one to be sitting. Changing that code later costs far more than changing it now.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The rate bands are on the page

Every AED figure here is attributed to the competitor or rate table that published it, with the year attached. You can check them before you speak to us. Three of the six sites ranking for this query publish no price at all, and the two that do quote in US dollars.

A specialist per syllabus code

0508 and 0544 are different syllabuses that reward different instincts, and we staff them separately rather than sending one Arabic speaker to both. Siblings in one household get two tutors and two trial lessons, scheduled back-to-back on the same evening so the household only loses one evening.

Marked work rather than coverage

Sessions are built around your child's own writing, marked against the published criteria, with the criterion named for every mark lost. A plan measured in topics covered is easy to sell and hard to audit. A plan measured in marked compositions shows you whether the hours did anything.

Plain about what we do not do

We do not visit homes in the UAE, we hold no regulator or exam-board accreditation, and we do not supply sentences for work your child submits. Stating the limits is cheaper for everyone than discovering them in week three, and it is how the rest of our pages are written too.

Built around Abu Dhabi evenings

Slots are booked in Gulf Standard Time, after the school run rather than during it, with later starts in Ramadan when families move study to after Iftar. School holidays and travel between the emirate and abroad are handled by moving the slot rather than losing the week.

Sources you can check yourself

The permit position comes from u.ae and mohre.gov.ae, the equivalency rule from published reporting of the Ministry's requirements, the entry-deadline arithmetic from Cambridge's own key dates, and the syllabus structure from cambridgeinternational.org. Where a fact is not sourced, this page says so instead of rounding it up.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Abu Dhabi: your questions answered

What does a Cambridge IGCSE Arabic First Language 0508 tutor charge per hour in Abu Dhabi?+

The market, not us, sets the band. Qualified subject tutors working online in the UAE are advertised between AED 150 and AED 300 an hour, with Unitors publishing IGCSE support from AED 150. Exam-year specialists run AED 200 to AED 450 and above, TutorChase lists AED 270, and in-home visits are put at AED 180 to AED 350 in Bestimate's 2026 Dubai table. First-language Arabic sits high in whichever band applies because the pool of people who have marked 0508 scripts is small. Ask for the rate, the session length and the number of weeks together; the third figure decides the total.

Why is a first-language Arabic specialist harder to find in Abu Dhabi than a maths tutor?+

Because almost all of them are already teaching. Every private school in the emirate must provide Arabic language alongside its licensed international curriculum, which keeps Arabic departments fully staffed and busy. The people qualified to teach Modern Standard Arabic composition against a published mark scheme are therefore mostly in classrooms until late afternoon, and the ones free at six o'clock are few. Maths tutors come from a far wider pool, including graduates from any numerate degree. That is the whole of the price difference between 0580 and 0508, and it is also why evening slots for Arabic disappear first in the autumn term.

Is it cheaper to book 0508 support by the month or by the hour?+

Monthly packages are common in this market, typically quoted around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions, and in-home monthly plans at AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 for four two-hour visits. A package is cheaper per hour and only better value if the hours get used. Families who travel between the emirate and abroad, or whose child has a heavy exam term, often buy a package and lose two sessions to a trip. We price by session for that reason and tell you the term total up front, so the arithmetic is visible rather than bundled.

Does a 0508 grade count towards the five subjects the Ministry of Education asks for?+

No. For the British track, the published equivalency requirement is five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at no less than grade E or grade 3, plus one accredited subject at Advanced Level at grade E or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five. Your child's maths, sciences, English and humanities fill them. The Arabic grade still matters for school progression, for entry to A Level Arabic or IB Arabic A, and on the transcript itself. Verify the current rule on moe.gov.ae rather than on any tutoring site.

My son was entered for 0544 but speaks Arabic at home. Is it worth paying to move him to 0508?+

Ask the school first, because the entry decision is theirs and the window closes months before the exam. A heritage speaker entered for the foreign-language route often scores well and learns little, while the same student on the first-language route may struggle with written standard forms but ends with a grade an Arabic department will accept for sixth form. The right answer depends on what he needs the grade for. Settling this before you buy tuition is worth more than the first six sessions, which is why we raise it in the trial lesson rather than a month in.

How many hours of 0508 support does an Abu Dhabi Year 11 student usually need before the June series?+

It depends entirely on the starting point, and we would rather say so than quote an average. A fluent speaker whose writing is untidy typically needs twelve to sixteen ninety-minute sessions spread across two terms. A student who joined the course late often needs twenty to thirty. A student eight weeks out can realistically move the summary task and the structure marks on the composition, but not deep written accuracy, which is a habit built over months rather than weeks. We aim a short block at what can actually move and say plainly what cannot.

Do tutors in Abu Dhabi need a MoHRE permit to teach Arabic privately?+

Yes. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, it is issued through MoHRE, and it is granted free of charge for two years. Teachers in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged fifteen to eighteen are all listed as eligible. Individuals tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule has been published, so treat any quoted amount as unverified. The permit costs the tutor nothing, so there is no good reason for them to lack it.

Can my child's own Arabic teacher at an Abu Dhabi school tutor them privately for a fee?+

You should assume not. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff have been reported as prohibiting teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct has been reported as barring the same arrangement. Verify the current wording against ADEK's own policy document before acting on it either way. The practical position is simple enough: however convenient it looks, do not arrange it, and be wary of an agency that offers to. Free after-hours support run by the school itself is a different thing and worth using first.

What does an in-home Arabic tutor in Khalifa City cost compared with an online lesson?+

At published market rates, a visit runs AED 180 to AED 350 an hour against AED 150 to AED 300 for comparable qualified teaching delivered online, so a weekly ninety-minute plan is roughly AED 270 to AED 525 in-home against AED 225 to AED 450 online. The gap is travel, and travel also costs time: an evening drive into Khalifa City means the tutor arrives inside a window rather than at a time. We do not sell visits in the UAE at all, so for us the comparison is academic, but it is the number you should ask any local agency to justify.

Which 0508 component gives the fastest return on tutoring hours?+

The summary task on the reading paper. It has a method, the method is teachable in a handful of sessions, and students who have never been taught it lose marks consistently rather than randomly, which means the marks come back as soon as the technique changes. The usual error is reproducing the passage in its own order and running out of space. After that, structure and register on the composition respond within four to eight marked drafts. Accuracy under timed conditions is last, because it is a habit rather than a piece of knowledge, and it needs months of weekly timed writing.

Does the price of 0508 tutoring rise closer to the exam series?+

Effectively, yes. Published hourly rates do not usually carry an exam-season surcharge, but the scarce evening slots go first, and the tutors left available in April are not the ones who were available in September. Families then buy twice-weekly intensives, which doubles the weekly spend at the same hourly rate. A term of weekly sessions started in the autumn costs about what a fortnight of exam-term intensives costs and achieves considerably more, because written accuracy responds to repetition over months rather than to intensity over weeks.

Can one tutor cover 0508 Arabic and Islamic Education in the same session?+

Sometimes, and it is worth asking rather than assuming. Islamic Education is taught in Arabic for Arab students in UAE private schools, so a slow Arabic reading speed depresses both grades, and a tutor working on reading fluency and structured written answers helps both. What a 0508 specialist should not be asked to do is teach Islamic Education content, which follows the Ministry's own material and may not be substituted or supplemented without permission. We will tell you which of the two problems we are actually equipped to treat before you book the hour.

Is a native Arabic speaker enough, or does a 0508 tutor need to know the mark scheme?+

Fluency is the entry requirement, not the qualification. The marks on this syllabus come off specific criteria, and a tutor who cannot name the criterion a mark was lost against can only tell your child that a sentence sounds wrong. That is not teachable feedback. Ask any candidate tutor two questions: what the summary task rewards, and what the three most common accuracy errors are in timed composition. A specialist answers both in a sentence. A fluent speaker without 0508 experience usually answers neither, however good their Arabic is.

How is Arabic handwriting and accuracy worked on over a video lesson?+

Your child writes on paper, as they will in the exam, photographs the page, and the tutor marks it on a shared screen while they watch. Handwriting and accuracy are not harmed by the format; they are easier to treat in it, because the marked page stays on screen beside the criteria and the same three errors can be pointed at week after week. Timed tasks run with the clock visible to both. What the format cannot replicate is an invigilated room, so we build tolerance for time pressure by timing everything, not by simulating the hall.

What happens if no Arabic First Language specialist is free in our Abu Dhabi evening slot?+

We say so, name the next realistic slot, and let you decide whether to wait or look elsewhere. A scarce language syllabus is exactly where availability gets concealed in this market, usually by putting a general Arabic speaker in front of a composition paper, which is how families end up paying for the same term twice. If the only honest option is a different evening or a Saturday morning, that is what we will offer. If we cannot cover it at all, we would rather tell you in the first conversation than in week three.

Start with the entry sheet, then talk about the price

Two things decide what Cambridge IGCSE Arabic First Language 0508 support costs an Abu Dhabi family: which syllabus code is actually on the entry sheet, and how many weeks are left before the school's final entry date. Send us both, with the most recent marked composition, and the trial lesson will tell you which component is losing the marks and roughly how many hours it needs. The market band is on this page so you can measure our plan against anyone else's. Lessons are one-to-one over live video, booked in Gulf Standard Time, and nothing is written for your child at any point.
