A tutor teaching one student cannot hide behind a batch average. The first fortnight is diagnosis: which topics are genuinely missing, which are known but unusable under exam conditions, and which are simply unpractised. Everything after that is a plan built for a single learner, at home or online.
Matched by programme, subject, level, weak areas and your school's calendar.
Math AA, Math AI, Physics, Chemistry, Economics, English and more, to the current syllabus.
Online worldwide around school hours, with home and hybrid options where tutors are local.
Clear updates on what was covered, what needs practice and the next step.
IB private tutors in India teach one student at a time, usually as home tuition in the family's own flat or house, and the real value of that is diagnosis before instruction. A batch has to move at the speed of its syllabus. A private tutor has to move at the speed of one learner, which means the first two sessions are spent finding out what is actually wrong rather than starting at Chapter 1. Sometimes the answer is a content gap. More often it is a student who knows the physics but cannot structure a Paper 2 extended response, or who has never been shown how a criterion is marked. This page explains what one-to-one buys, how to test whether you are getting it, and when a group class is the better spend.
You describe the student rather than the subject, and you keep the first commitment small. IB Gram asks which board and programme the student is on, the level in each subject, what the school calendar looks like this term, where you live and which evenings are genuinely free. Matching profiles are shortlisted, a demo or trial session comes before you commit, and if the fit is wrong you can ask for a different match. The part families skip is the calendar. A Diploma Programme (DP) student in October of DP1 is in a completely different position from one in October of DP2, and a tutor who never asks will teach the same sequence to both. So say when the mocks fall. Say when the Internal Assessment (IA) draft is due with the subject teacher. Say whether the school enters candidates for the May session, as schools in India overwhelmingly do, or for November. Location matters more than parents expect for one-to-one at home. A tutor twenty minutes away will hold a weekday evening slot for two years. A tutor from the other side of the city will start cancelling once the rains set in, and those cancellations tend to land in exactly the weeks you needed the sessions most. The shortlist is therefore built from people who can realistically arrive on a Tuesday at half past six. Where nobody nearby teaches the subject at the level you need, the honest answer is an online tutor rather than a weaker local one. Availability stays conditional throughout. It depends on the subject, the level, the slot and the season, and the fortnight after May results are released in early July is the hardest window of the year in which to secure anyone good. Ask earlier than feels necessary. If the student is entering DP1 in a few months, the conversation belongs in the spring, not in September when the first unit test has already gone badly.
1. Send your query: board, programme, subject, level and your locality.
2. A short call covers report comments, mock dates and target areas.
3. You receive a shortlist of verified profiles matched to those needs.
4. Book a demo session and watch whether the tutor diagnoses or lectures.
5. Confirm slots, or ask for a different match if the fit is wrong.

One-to-one means something different in each of the three International Baccalaureate (IB) programmes, and a tutor who treats them the same is worth avoiding. In the Primary Years Programme (PYP) there is no external examination to aim at, so a private teacher is working on reading fluency, number sense and the confidence to ask a question out loud. In the Middle Years Programme (MYP) the target is criterion performance. In the Diploma Programme the target is points. The MYP runs five years, roughly ages eleven to sixteen, across eight subject groups. Every subject is assessed against four criteria, A to D, each scored out of 8, and the total out of 32 converts to a 1 to 7 grade through IB grade boundaries. That structure is what makes one-to-one useful here. A student can be strong on knowing and understanding and weak on investigating, and a batch report will never separate the two. A private tutor can look at four criterion scores, see which one is dragging the conversion down, and spend six weeks on that alone. The Community Project arrives in MYP 3 or 4 and the Personal Project in MYP 5. MYP eAssessment in MYP 5, with on-screen examinations and ePortfolios, is optional and each school decides whether to offer it, so there is no single national MYP examination in India. The DP is two years, DP1 and DP2, with six subjects drawn from six groups. Three or four sit at Higher Level (HL), with 240 recommended teaching hours, and the rest at Standard Level (SL), with 150. Each subject is graded 1 to 7. Theory of Knowledge (TOK) and the Extended Essay (EE) together contribute up to 3 further points, so 45 is the maximum and 24 the minimum for the diploma, subject to the IB's failing conditions. Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) must also be completed. A personal IB tutor in India working with a DP student is usually working inside that arithmetic rather than outside it.
PYP: no external exam, so progress is read from work and confidence, not marks
MYP: four criteria per subject, each 0-8, totalling 32 before boundaries apply
MYP 3 or 4 carries the Community Project; MYP 5 carries the Personal Project
DP: six subjects, three or four at HL with 240 recommended hours each
DP core: TOK and the EE add up to 3 points towards a maximum of 45
An IB private tutor for HL work should say which of the extra hours they cover
The argument for one-to-one is strongest in subjects where the marks are lost in a specific, identifiable place. Take the DP sciences under the structure first assessed in 2025. Paper 1 has two parts: 1A is multiple choice and 1B is data-based. Paper 2 carries short-answer and extended-response questions. A batch teaching Physics will cover the content of both papers. It will rarely stop for forty minutes on one student's habit of writing a correct physical explanation in the wrong order, which is where the marks actually go. The scientific investigation is the sharper case. It is worth 20 per cent of the subject grade, marked on four criteria of 6 marks each, Research design, Data analysis, Conclusion and Evaluation, with a maximum of 3,000 words. Students may investigate in groups of up to three, but each writes an individual report. A one-to-one IB tutor can read a draft against those four criteria and say, plainly, that the data analysis is fine and the evaluation is doing nothing at all. In a room of fifteen, nobody's individual evaluation gets that hour. HL and SL share the assessment structure, with HL adding Additional Higher Level (AHL) content on top. Mathematics splits the same way. Analysis and Approaches (AA) and Applications and Interpretation (AI) reward different instincts, and a student steered into AA HL because it sounded safer will show it within the first term. Private teaching can test that quickly, because the tutor can simply hand over questions from both routes and watch. In Economics and English A the bottleneck is usually writing under time pressure rather than understanding. The only reliable fix is a tutor marking this student's own script in front of them, line by line, then asking for the same question again a week later to see whether anything held.
Physics, Chemistry and Biology: Paper 1A multiple choice, 1B data-based, Paper 2 extended
Scientific investigation: 20 per cent, four criteria of 6 marks, 3,000 words maximum
Group work of up to three is allowed, but every report is written individually
Mathematics AA against AI: test the fit early rather than after the first term
Economics and English A: timed writing marked against the actual criteria, then repeated
IB private tutors in India are matched by IB Gram across five regions in detail, and the practical answer differs in each. In Delhi NCR, a family in South Delhi, Vasant Kunj or Chanakyapuri usually has depth of supply within a short radius, while Dwarka, Greater Noida, Faridabad and Ghaziabad thin out quickly for HL specialists. Gurugram along Golf Course Road and Noida around Sector 128 sit in between. An IB private tutor in Delhi will often take the metro rather than drive, which changes which evening slots are realistic for home classes. In the Mumbai Metropolitan Region the constraint is the geography itself. A tutor living in Andheri or Juhu can reach Bandra, Worli or Lower Parel on a good evening and cannot reliably reach Thane or Kharghar on any evening. Powai and Malabar Hill are their own islands in practice. Navi Mumbai and Vashi are best served by a tutor who already lives there, and where one is not available at the right level, an IB private tutor in Mumbai teaching online is a better outcome than a long cross-city commute that collapses by October. Bengaluru is the clearest case for hybrid. An IB private tutor in Bangalore living near Indiranagar or Koramangala can hold HSR Layout and Jayanagar comfortably, but Whitefield, Sarjapur Road, Electronic City, Hebbal, Yelahanka and Kanakapura Road each behave like separate cities on a weekday. Hyderabad is easier: Gachibowli, HITEC City, Madhapur, Kondapur, Jubilee Hills, Banjara Hills, the Financial District and Kokapet cluster tightly, though Secunderabad sits apart from that cluster. Pune runs along two axes, Koregaon Park, Kalyani Nagar, Kharadi and Viman Nagar on one side, Baner, Balewadi, Aundh, Wakad and Hinjewadi on the other, and crossing between them in the evening is what breaks schedules. An IB private tutor in Chennai, in Kolkata or in Ahmedabad is found the same way, with online filling the gaps local supply leaves. Never accept an estimate of travel time from anyone. Ask instead which evening slots the tutor has actually kept for a year.
Delhi NCR: South Delhi, Vasant Kunj and Chanakyapuri are dense; Ghaziabad is not
Mumbai: Bandra, Juhu, Worli and Powai are reachable; Thane and Kharghar rarely are
Bengaluru: Whitefield, Sarjapur Road and Electronic City behave as separate cities
Hyderabad: Gachibowli, Kondapur, Jubilee Hills and Kokapet cluster within a short radius
Pune: crossing between Kharadi and Hinjewadi on a weekday evening breaks schedules
Chennai, Kolkata and Ahmedabad: online fills what local one-to-one supply cannot
IB Gram is an independent tutoring platform and is not affiliated with any school named here, the International Baccalaureate, Cambridge International Education or Pearson Edexcel. Schools such as Dhirubhai Ambani International School, Oberoi International School, Ecole Mondiale World School, Pathways World School, Stonehill International School, Indus International School, Oakridge International School, Mahindra International School, Good Shepherd International School and The International School Bangalore are named only because families searching for private tuition are often at schools of this kind. The Indian academic year runs roughly April to March, and schools here overwhelmingly enter DP candidates for the May examination session, with results released in early July. That single fact shapes the whole tuition calendar. The stretch families underestimate runs from late October to February of DP2: mock examinations, IA final submissions and Extended Essay deadlines arrive close together, and a student who is behind in one subject in November will be behind in three by January, because everything competes for the same weekday evenings. Expectations at international schools in India add their own pressure. Coursework is continuous rather than concentrated at the end, so there is no quiet term in which to catch up. Parents' evenings produce criterion comments rather than percentages, and those comments are far more useful than they look. A private tutor should read them before the first session. A comment saying a student describes rather than analyses is a teaching instruction, not a pleasantry. One warning about integrity, because it comes up every year. Schools are clear that the IA, the EE and MYP projects must be the student's own work, and a tutor who offers to write, redraft or substantially rewrite them is putting the student's candidature at risk. What a tutor may legitimately do is teach the skill, discuss the criteria, ask hard questions about a draft the student has already written, and stop there. Any tutor who is vague about that boundary should be declined, however impressive the subject knowledge sounds.
Indian academic year roughly April to March; May session, results in early July
Late October to February in DP2 stacks mocks, IA submissions and EE deadlines
Criterion comments on a report are teaching instructions, not polite remarks
Continuous coursework means there is no quiet term in which to catch up
A tutor who offers to write an IA or EE should be declined immediately
Home tuition carries one-to-one best when the problem is attention, habit or a young student, and online carries it best when the problem is finding someone who genuinely knows the subject at the level required. Hybrid, which usually means home sessions at the weekend and online sessions midweek, is what most DP families in the metros settle into after a term of trying one or the other. Home classes have advantages that are easy to underestimate. The tutor sees the desk, the light, the phone lying face up, the younger sibling in the next room. They can pick up the student's own notebook and read the handwriting, which is how you find out that the working is missing rather than wrong. A student who talks freely at a dining table often says nothing on a video call. Against that, a home tutor is limited to whoever lives within reach, and for HL Chemistry or HL Economics in a smaller city that pool may be close to empty. Online removes the geography entirely. A student in Kochi, Indore or Guwahati can work with a specialist based in Bengaluru or Mumbai, and a shared screen with a past paper open and annotated live is genuinely good teaching once the student is old enough to hold attention for an hour. It is weaker for younger learners, weaker when the house is noisy, and dependent on a connection that is stable at seven in the evening rather than at eleven in the morning. Hybrid is the honest compromise, and it is how a good many IB private tutors in India now work. The tutor visits for the session that needs presence, usually the long weekend one where written work is marked together, and runs the shorter midweek check online. Families in Bengaluru and Pune reach this arrangement quickly, because the weekday crossing is the problem rather than the teaching. Decide it on evidence: try home classes for three weeks, try online for three, and keep whichever produced work you can actually see.
Home tuition: the tutor reads the notebook, the desk and the distractions directly
Online: reaches HL and rarer subject specialists who do not live in your city
Hybrid: a weekend home session for marking, a short midweek online check
Younger students usually need home classes; DP2 students often prefer online
Test both for three weeks each rather than deciding from the first impression
One-to-one at home suits a student whose problem is specific and whose attention wanders in a room of fifteen. One-to-one online suits a family that needs a subject specialist their own city cannot supply. A small online group suits a student who works better with someone to argue against. A large batch suits disciplined revision at the lowest cost per hour. The trade-off is attention against price and peer pressure.
| What matters | One-to-one tuition at home | One-to-one tuition online | A small online group class | A large classroom batch |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Attention per student | Complete, and the tutor also reads the desk, the notebook and the distractions | Complete within the session, though body language and written working are harder to read | Shared between three or four students, so each still gets a meaningful share | Divided across the room; individual weaknesses are rarely visible to the teacher |
| Diagnosis in the first fortnight | Strongest: cold attempts observed directly, with the student's own scripts on the table | Strong, provided the student photographs and shares written work before each session | Partial: the tutor sees patterns across the group rather than one student's cause | Minimal, since the syllabus schedule decides what is taught regardless of the individual |
| Reaching an HL or rare subject specialist | Limited to tutors living within a realistic evening travel radius of your locality | Best option, because the specialist can be anywhere in India, which is the whole point | Good, since one specialist can serve several families in different cities at once | Depends entirely on who the centre happens to have hired locally that year |
| Travel and weekday evening time | No travel for the student, but the tutor's commute decides which slots survive | No travel at all for anyone, so a late slot after school activities becomes possible | No travel, and the fixed group timing forces a routine the student tends to keep | The student travels, which in Mumbai or Bengaluru can cost more time than the class |
| Cost structure | Highest per hour, since one tutor's whole evening is committed to one student | Usually lower than a home visit, because no travel time is being paid for | Shared between families, so noticeably cheaper per student than one-to-one | Lowest cost per hour of any format, which is its genuine advantage |
| Peer discussion and comparison | Absent, which some students miss and a few students badly need | Absent, and online one-to-one can feel isolating for a sociable learner | Best of the four: students hear other answers and argue about mark schemes | Present but passive; most students watch rather than take part |
| Pace control | Set entirely by the learner, including skipping what is already secure | Set by the learner, with shared notes and recordings making revisits easy | Set by the group's middle, so a fast student waits a little | Set by the syllabus calendar, with no realistic adjustment for an individual |
| IA and coursework support within the rules | Detailed criterion discussion of the student's own draft, never any writing for them | Equally detailed on screen, with the draft annotated live against each criterion | General guidance on criteria, which suits students at a similar stage | Usually generic advice only, since drafts differ too much to handle at scale |
| Continuity across a school year | Strong if the tutor lives nearby, weakest if the commute is long and the rains arrive | Strongest overall, because weather, traffic and travel never cancel a session | Good, though the group's composition may change between terms | Reliable as a schedule, but the teacher may change without notice to families |
Before a profile is shortlisted, IB Gram verifies identity and the qualifications and teaching experience the tutor claims, and confirms which programmes, subjects and levels they have actually taught. That is the platform's side of the work. Your side matters just as much, because the checks that protect a family during a home visit are the ones the family makes itself in the first fortnight. Start with the claims a profile makes. There is a real difference between a person who has taught the DP inside a school, a person who has attended IB professional development workshops, and a person who has tutored DP students privately for years. All three can be excellent. They are not the same thing, and a profile should be readable enough for you to tell which one you are looking at. If a tutor says they have marked or examined, ask which component and in which years, and listen for whether the answer is specific or hedged. Then watch the demo with a checklist rather than a feeling. Does the tutor ask to see the student's last marked script before teaching anything? Do they name the criterion or the paper they are working towards? Do they stop and make the student attempt something in front of them, or do they talk for fifty minutes? A tutor who lectures well in a demo will lecture well for the whole year, and a lecture is precisely the thing you are paying not to receive. For home visits, set the ordinary rules and do not apologise for them. Lessons happen in a common area rather than a bedroom, with the door open. Someone is at home. Gate entry and society access are arranged in advance so that a tutor is not stuck at the boundary for fifteen minutes of a sixty-minute session, which happens constantly in gated developments in Gurugram, Noida and Kharadi. Cancellations are communicated by a fixed time. None of this implies distrust. It is what any working arrangement inside a family's own house requires.
Identity, claimed qualifications and teaching experience are verified before shortlisting
Ask which component a tutor has marked, and in which examination years
In the demo, watch whether the tutor asks for the last marked script first
Home classes happen in a common area, door open, with an adult in the house
Agree gate and society entry in advance so access does not eat the session
One-to-one buys diagnosis, and everything else follows from it. That is the single thing IB private tutors in India are hired for, whatever the subject on the invoice. A batch tutor has to teach the topic the schedule says is due this week. A private tutor can spend the first two sessions doing almost no teaching at all, working out which of four very different problems the student actually has: missing content, content known but not retrievable under time pressure, technique that was never taught, or a student who understands the subject perfectly well and is losing marks to how the answer is written. Here is a worked case. A DP1 student is scoring in the low fours in Chemistry. The school report says she needs to revise more. A batch would re-teach the unit. In session one a private tutor asks her to attempt two past questions cold and sees that the multiple-choice work in the style of Paper 1A is fine, that the data-based questions in 1B are mostly right, and that the extended responses in Paper 2 lose marks by answering roughly three-quarters of what was asked. In session two the tutor checks whether this is a reading problem or a structure problem by giving her the same questions with the command terms underlined. The score jumps. So the plan is not more revision. The plan is eight weeks of command-term work, ten minutes at the start of every session, with one timed Paper 2 question every fortnight. That is what a one-student plan looks like, and it is visibly different from a batch syllabus, which must cover the whole course because fifteen students need fifteen different things. The other difference is pace. In a batch, pace is set by the median student. One-to-one, pace is set by the learner, which sometimes means moving much faster through a unit the student already holds and spending a month on the one that is broken. So how do you tell real personalisation from a tutor who is simply going slower? Ask what the next six weeks contain and why. A personalising tutor names a specific weakness, a specific measure and a date. A slow tutor describes the syllabus.
Session one: attempt work cold, untaught, so the diagnosis is honest
Session two: test one hypothesis about the weakness and discard it if wrong
A real plan names a weakness, a measure of improvement and a review date
Going slower is not personalisation; skipping what is already secure is
Ask monthly what the tutor has stopped doing, not only what they have added
One-to-one is the wrong spend more often than a tutoring platform is supposed to admit. If a student understands the subject, attends school regularly and simply has not practised enough past papers, a private tutor is an expensive way to enforce a habit that a parent, a study timetable and a quiet room can enforce for nothing. A small revision batch in the weeks before mocks does that job well and adds peer comparison, which is genuinely motivating for some students and worth paying for on its own. It is also the wrong spend when the problem is spread across five subjects. That is rarely five subject problems. It is usually sleep, organisation, or something happening outside school, and adding five one-to-one slots to an already full week makes it worse rather than better. Speak to the school coordinator before hiring anyone. One honest conversation there has saved families a great deal of unnecessary tuition, and it costs nothing. What should progress look like when tuition is the right call? Within two to three weeks you should be able to see the tutor's diagnosis written down. Within six weeks, a measurable change in the thing that was named, which might be a mark on a timed question rather than a subject grade. Subject grades move slowly and should not be expected to move in a month. No tutor can guarantee a grade, and any claim about a specific score or a percentage improvement deserves real scepticism. Some honest limits. Starting in February of DP2 narrows what is possible to exam technique and triage across a small number of topics, which is worth doing but is not the same as fixing two years. A student who does not want tuition will absorb very little of it, however good the teaching is. And a tutor who is excellent for one child may be wrong for their sibling. If the fit is wrong after a fair trial, ask for a different match early rather than waiting out the term.
Practice, not teaching, is missing: a revision batch may do the job for less
Problems in five subjects at once usually point outside the subjects themselves
Speak to the school coordinator before hiring anyone; it is free and often decisive
Expect a written diagnosis in three weeks and a measurable change in six
Subject grades move slowly; a mark on a timed question moves first
If the fit is wrong after a fair trial, request a different tutor early
Before the first session, gather four things: the most recent school report with its criterion comments, the last two marked scripts or tests in the subject, the school calendar showing mock dates and IA deadlines, and an honest note of which evenings are free once school transport and activities are accounted for. That packet turns a vague first meeting into a working one, and a good tutor will ask for all four anyway. The first session should feel uncomfortable in a productive way. The student will be asked to attempt things without being taught them first, because a tutor cannot diagnose from a conversation. Expect roughly two-thirds of the hour to be the student working and being questioned, and one-third to be teaching. If it runs the other way round, say so after the session rather than after the term. By the end of the first fortnight you should have, in writing, what the tutor believes the problem is, what they intend to do about it, how they will know whether it worked and when you will review it together. Ask for it plainly. A tutor who can produce that in five sentences is doing one-to-one properly. A tutor who cannot is teaching a batch of one. Send a query or book a free consultation to begin the search for IB private tutors in India. IB Gram will ask about board, programme, subject, level, your locality and your schedule, then shortlist verified profiles that fit those needs. A demo or trial session can be arranged before you commit to anything, lessons can run at home, online or hybrid, and a different match can be requested at any point if the fit is wrong. Slots depend on the subject, the level and the time of year, so the earlier in the term you ask, the more choice you will have.
Bring the last report, two marked scripts, the calendar and your free evenings
Expect the first session to be mostly the student working, not the tutor talking
Ask for a written diagnosis and review date by the end of the first fortnight
Choose home, online or hybrid after trying both, not before
Book a demo before committing; ask for a different match if the fit is wrong
IB Gram is an independent tutoring platform and is not officially affiliated with any school named on this page, the International Baccalaureate, Cambridge International Education or Pearson Edexcel.
Mostly diagnosis, not teaching. The tutor asks the student to attempt work cold, without input, so that the weakness is visible rather than reported. They read the last marked scripts and the criterion comments on the school report, then test one hypothesis: is this a content gap, a retrieval problem under time pressure, a technique that was never taught, or an answer-writing problem? By the end of session two you should be told which of those it is, in a sentence you could repeat to the school coordinator without translating it.
A batch has to cover the whole syllabus because fifteen students need fifteen different things, so its plan is the course itself. A one-student plan starts from a named weakness and deliberately leaves out what the student already holds. If a DP student is secure on mechanics and losing marks on extended response structure, the plan is eight weeks of structure work with timed questions, not a march through the textbook. Ask any tutor what they intend to skip. The answer tells you whether the plan is real.
Usually yes, subject to tutor availability and to where you live. Weekday evening slots between roughly six and eight are the most requested hours of the week in every Indian metro, so they are booked first and held by tutors who live close by. A tutor crossing Bengaluru from Indiranagar to Whitefield, or Pune from Kharadi to Hinjewadi, may manage it in September and struggle by July. Ask any home tutor how long they have held their current weekday slots.
Yes, and it is worth being straightforward about it. Home tuition should run in a common area such as a dining or living room with the door open, and an adult should be in the house. This is standard practice rather than a comment on any individual tutor. It also helps the teaching, because a parent nearby hears what is being worked on and can see whether the session is the student working or the tutor talking. Arrange society and gate entry in advance too.
Fees are not published here because they vary with programme, level, subject scarcity, city and whether the tutor travels to you. What you can control is the structure of the arrangement. One-to-one at home is the most expensive format per hour, because a tutor's whole evening is committed to one student. Online one-to-one is usually lower, since nobody is paying for travel time. A small group is shared between families. Ask for the fee structure in writing before the trial, including cancellations.
Often not, and that is worth hearing from a tutoring platform. A student who understands the material and simply needs more past-paper practice does not need a private tutor to supervise that. A revision batch in the weeks before mocks, or a structured timetable at home, does the same job for less. One-to-one earns its cost when there is something specific and identifiable to fix, or when a Higher Level subject has genuinely outpaced the student and nobody at home can help.
Ask what the next six weeks contain and why. A personalising tutor names a weakness, a measure and a date: extended response structure, one timed question a fortnight, reviewed in mid-November. A tutor going slower describes the syllabus and says they will cover it thoroughly. Another test is what they skip. Personalisation always involves leaving out material the student already holds. If nothing is ever skipped, you are paying one-to-one rates for a batch delivered to one person.
They can teach the skills and discuss a draft the student has written, and they must not write or substantially rewrite any of it. That boundary is not negotiable, because the IA and the Extended Essay have to be the student's own work. A legitimate session looks like reading the student's draft against the published criteria, asking why a conclusion follows from the data, and pointing at the evaluation criterion that is scoring nothing. If a tutor offers to do more than that, decline the match.
Take the online specialist over the weaker local match. This is common in Vashi, Kharghar and Thane, and equally common in Greater Noida, Electronic City and parts of Secunderabad, where general tutors are available and Higher Level subject specialists are not. A student working with someone who genuinely knows the assessment will progress faster on screen than with a nearby tutor learning the course alongside them. Hybrid is the middle path: one session a week at home and one online with the specialist.
Raise it immediately rather than waiting for the term to end. First check what was actually promised: subject grades rarely move in four weeks, but the specific measure the tutor named should have moved. If the tutor never named one, that is itself the problem. Ask for the written diagnosis and the plan, and if neither exists, request a different match. IB Gram can arrange another tutor, and a second demo costs you an evening rather than a whole term.
For a DP or upper MYP student, usually yes, and sometimes better, because the choice of tutor is far wider. A past paper shared on screen and annotated live is genuinely strong teaching. For younger students, and for anyone who drifts the moment nobody is watching, home classes work better. The deciding factors are age, self-regulation and how quiet the house is at seven in the evening. Try three weeks of each before settling, and keep the format that produced visible written work.
Send a query or book a free consultation. IB Gram will ask about board, programme, subject, level, your locality and the evenings that are realistically free, then shortlist verified tutor profiles that match. You can arrange a demo or trial session before committing, run lessons at home, online or hybrid, and ask for a different tutor at any point if the fit turns out to be wrong. Availability depends on level, subject and season.
