Look for the student doing the tutor's job without being asked. They start a question by identifying the command term, they check units before submitting, they bring a specific doubt to the session rather than waiting to be led. When the hour is being spent on general revision the student could run alone, the useful part has already been delivered. Winding down to a fortnightly check-in before stopping works better than a sudden end, particularly in the term before a May or November session.

For most students, two shorter sessions win. Spacing the contact means work gets set, attempted and corrected twice rather than once, which is where the learning actually happens. A single long weekend block suits a narrower set of cases: extended essay supervision, a heavy internal assessment push, or a household where weekday evenings genuinely cannot hold a fixed hour because of commute times. If you choose the weekend block, keep it to ninety minutes with a break rather than stretching to three hours.
