Small groups can work where two students from the same class share the same subject, level and school deadlines, and where the parents already know each other. It can bring the cost per family down. Ask the advisor directly, since it depends entirely on whether a suitable second student exists at that level and timing.

Look at marked school work rather than at the tutor's opinion. You want fewer repeated method errors, working that is set out clearly enough to earn method marks, and a student who can say what the question is asking before starting to answer it. Ask the student to explain one recent topic without notes. If nothing has shifted after four to six sessions, the plan or the match needs changing, and raising it early costs far less than waiting.

Holiday periods are usually the easiest time to arrange sessions, because the daytime is free and travel is quicker. The weeks immediately before the May session are the hardest, since that is when demand peaks and experienced DP tutors have already filled their evenings. If you know that revision support will be needed for May 2026, ask in advance rather than in March. Availability still depends on the subject, the level and each tutor's schedule.
