Two things, and neither is exam practice. The first is mathematics fluency, since most DP difficulty in the sciences traces back to algebra that never became automatic. Twenty minutes daily beats a long weekly session for this. The second is reading and writing volume in the subject they will take for English A or their humanities choice, because DP essays assume a reading speed that MYP does not build on its own. A short summer plan is usually four to six sessions, not twenty.

They can, with a realistic slot. Both are comfortable in the afternoon and considerably slower between 6 and 8 pm, which is when most DP students finally become free. Families in those areas often keep weekday sessions online and book home visits for weekend mornings, which holds up much better across a full term than an optimistic weekday arrangement that starts slipping by November. Availability for a home slot depends on tutor schedules and can be reviewed once you tell us the sector and the hour you need.

Two is the common answer during term, with one longer teaching session and one shorter review, though a student who is broadly fine and only wants doubt-solving may need one. The number rises around an internal assessment deadline or in the weeks before mocks, then falls back. What matters more than frequency is whether the work set between sessions actually gets done. Three sessions a week booked into a timetable with room for two produces cancellations, and cancellations are usually how an arrangement quietly ends.

It should be mostly diagnostic. The tutor should look at recent work, ask the student to attempt something while explaining their thinking, and finish with a plan for the next few weeks that names specific topics or assessment components. A session that is pure teaching from the first minute is a warning sign, because the tutor has decided what is wrong before checking. Afterwards, ask the student whether the tutor explained things or simply solved them. That answer is the most reliable early signal you will get.

Fees track programme, level and mode rather than school familiarity. Higher level DP subjects sit above standard level, and the sciences and mathematics above the humanities, because the specialist pool is smaller. Home sessions carry a practical travel premium, since a tutor crossing the city at 7 pm gives up a second slot, which is why online is usually cheaper for the same person. Indicative ranges for your specific subject and level are shared once the request is understood, before any tutor is introduced.

It can be arranged, but almost certainly with two different tutors. The Grade 3 work is reading confidence, number sense and keeping curiosity intact, and it needs someone who genuinely enjoys that age. The DP2 work is subject specialism and deadline management under real pressure. Very few people are good at both, and a compromise choice usually shortchanges the younger child. Scheduling the two on the same evening at the same address is often possible and worth asking for directly.
