It depends what you are buying. Tutoring aimed at raising Middle Years scores at that age is often unnecessary, since the assessment is designed to be developmental. Support aimed at algebraic fluency, reading volume and written expression is a genuinely good investment, because those three things determine how the Diploma feels two years later. Frame the request accordingly. A tutor asked to build foundations will work differently from one asked to improve this term's report, even with the same student and the same hour.

Usually, within a narrow band.
