Continuity is worth more in that moment than proximity. Availability still depends on the tutor's own schedule.

It happens, and once is fairly common. Twice suggests the brief itself may be wrong rather than the people. When two capable tutors both fail to move a subject, the usual explanation is that the diagnosis was never accurate: a Physics problem that is really an algebra problem, or a writing problem that is really a reading-speed problem. Before a second change, ask both tutors separately what they thought the obstacle was. Two independent answers pointing the same direction are worth more than another shortlist.

Salvage before restarting. A replacement should first establish whether the research question is still viable, whether the collected data is usable, and whether uncertainties and repeats were recorded well enough to support analysis. Quite often the work is further along than the student believes and only the write-up structure is missing. Restarting should be a last resort in DP Year 2, since the school's internal draft deadline rarely leaves room for a second round of laboratory time. Ask for that assessment in the first session.

Some do, and the hour matters more than the address. Anything starting between 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm is comfortable for tutors coming from Sector 65, Sohna Road or Sushant Lok. After about 6:30 pm the Golf Course Extension Road corridor slows and reliability drops, which is why late slots tend to be dropped first when a tutor's schedule tightens. If evenings are your only option, an online session is generally the steadier arrangement. Home visits can be reviewed and depend on tutor availability.

The checks are the same in kind and stricter in practice. Identity, level-specific qualifications and described IB experience are verified either way. For a mid-course handover, candidates are additionally asked how they would take over partly written coursework, what they would read first, and how they would handle a research question that is not going to work. Someone who has genuinely done this before answers with specifics. Someone who has not answers with reassurance, which tells you what you need to know.

Occasionally, and it is a reasonable instinct. Physics with Math AI, or Economics with Business-facing writing support, sometimes sit within one person's genuine range. Two higher level sciences plus a maths course rarely do, and a tutor who agrees to everything is usually agreeing to be adequate at all of it. Fewer relationships means simpler handovers, but not at the cost of subject depth in a Diploma Programme subject. Ask the advisor to say plainly where a single tutor stops being the right answer.

Common, and usually about effort rather than loyalty. Starting again means explaining the same weaknesses to a stranger, which teenagers find genuinely unpleasant. Two things reduce the resistance. Give the new tutor the handover note so the student is not asked to narrate their own failures again. And keep the first session narrow, one piece of real work, one clear outcome, rather than a broad assessment. If the objection persists past three sessions it is worth treating as information, not as reluctance.
