IB and IGCSE Tutors and Online Classes in Patiala

Patiala has fewer schools running the IB or Cambridge and Edexcel IGCSE than a metro city does, so most families here already know their child's syllabus needs someone from outside the city. We build every Patiala match around one thing first: has this tutor recently taught your child's actual course, at the actual level. Sessions happen live over video, one to one, on your own laptop or phone, at a time that fits around school, tuition and family life in Patiala.

IB & IGCSE in Patiala

Why Patiala students end up looking outside the city for IB and IGCSE help

Ask around Patiala and you will find plenty of strong PSEB and CBSE coaching for the board exams, JEE and NEET, but very little built specifically for the IB or for Cambridge and Edexcel IGCSE. That gap is not unusual for a city this size; it just means a family whose child is on one of these curricula, often because of a transfer, an NRI return, or a school switch, needs a tutor who is not necessarily local.

That is the whole idea behind IB Gram in a city like Patiala. A tutor anywhere in India, teaching over video, can cover a Diploma Higher Level subject or an IGCSE tier that Patiala's own tutor market simply does not have depth in. The lesson still runs at your child's own pace, with the same back and forth as an in-person class, just without asking a local tutor to claim expertise they do not have.

We do not offer a tutor coming to your door in Patiala. Every class is online: live, one to one, screen shared for working through a problem, marking a past paper or going line by line through an Extended Essay draft. Families who have used both formats tend to find the online version keeps pace better here, precisely because the subject match is stronger than what a home visit would realistically offer.

IB Gram has no business relationship with any school, board or examining body referenced on this page. Our tutors teach, explain and mark; the Internal Assessment, the Extended Essay, the TOK essay and any IGCSE coursework are written by the student, always.

At a glance

  • Built for a city where local IB and IGCSE specialists are thin on the ground
  • PYP through to DP, plus Cambridge and Edexcel IGCSE, Core to Extended
  • One free class first, then a plan you actually agree to
  • A short note after each class so progress is never just a memory
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to Patiala school years

Most Patiala students arrive at IB or IGCSE by way of PSEB or CBSE, usually through a school move, a parent's transfer, or a family returning from abroad who want their child to keep pace with an international curriculum. What a tutor should be doing looks different at each stage of the IB, set out below.

PYPNursery to Class 5, ages 3-11

IB Primary Years Programme

No external exam here. The programme runs on units of inquiry and closes with the PYP Exhibition, a project the student researches and presents themselves.

For Patiala's small number of PYP families, the ask is usually English reading confidence and number sense, since there is no local peer group doing the same inquiry work at home.

MYPClass 6 to 10, ages 11-16

IB Middle Years Programme

Subjects are graded against four published criteria, and MYP 5 closes with the Personal Project, a self-run piece of work backed by a written process journal.

Where a Patiala student has moved from a PSEB or CBSE school mid-way, the criterion-based marking is usually the single biggest adjustment a tutor needs to work on early.

DPClass 11-12, ages 16-19

IB Diploma Programme

Six courses, three Higher and three Standard, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS. The main exam sitting is in May worldwide, with a smaller November resit round.

Almost every DP enquiry from Patiala involves Maths, one or two sciences and Economics, since these are the subjects a family cannot easily source locally at Diploma depth.

CPClass 11-12, ages 16-19

IB Career-related Programme

Pairs Diploma-level coursework with a hands-on career study, a written reflection on it, and a running set of workplace-facing skills.

We have not yet had a Patiala school register a CP cohort directly; our CP work here has been the Diploma-course component for a student enrolled through an institution elsewhere.

Subject coverage

IB subjects we tutor

A call from Patiala asking for 'an IB tutor' almost always turns into a conversation about one specific course, once we ask what level and what topic is actually the problem. Maths AA HL and Business Management SL do not share a tutor, and neither pretends to.

IB Maths Analysis & Approaches

HL / SL

The harder Paper 3 questions at HL reward students who have drilled proof and calculus from first principles, not memorised routines.

IB Maths Applications & Interpretation

HL / SL

Real, messy data sets do more for this course than another worksheet; the exploration needs live data gathered early, not invented numbers.

IB Physics

HL / SL

Timing the papers properly matters as much as the content; a research question the student can genuinely carry out beats an ambitious one.

IB Chemistry

HL / SL

Marks slip away on data-booklet habits far more often than on the chemistry itself, which is where most sessions actually focus.

IB Biology

HL / SL

Genetics problems and the statistics behind an investigation trip up more students than the extended-response writing does.

IB Economics

HL / SL

A correctly labelled diagram carries more weight than students expect; the three commentaries work best built from a live news story, not a textbook case.

IB Business Management

HL / SL

Reading an unfamiliar case study under time pressure is the actual skill; the research project needs a real organisation, not a hypothetical one.

IB English A Language & Literature

HL / SL

Unseen texts for Paper 1 need timed practice more than theory, and the recorded oral rewards rehearsal, not a script read aloud.

IB Computer Science

HL / SL

The coursework product needs documentation written alongside the build, not reconstructed afterward from memory of what was done.

IB Psychology

HL / SL

Correct study citation and a clear extended-response structure matter as much as knowing the biological and cognitive material itself.

IB Environmental Systems & Societies

SL

A systems diagram the student drew themselves survives an exam better than one copied from a revision guide.

IB Geography

HL / SL

Fieldwork write-ups need a method that would still make sense to someone who was not there; case studies need naming, not gesturing at.

IB History

HL / SL

Source questions in Paper 1 want a sceptical read, not a summary, and the historical investigation needs a question narrow enough to actually answer.

IB Hindi B & Punjabi

HL / SL

Spontaneous speaking for the oral improves faster from unscripted conversation practice than from rehearsing prepared answers.

Theory of Knowledge (TOK)

DP Core

A prescribed title is only workable once the student can genuinely argue against their own first instinct, not just state it twice.

Extended Essay (EE)

DP Core

A narrow, answerable research question saves months later; drafts get read closely against the criteria, but the words stay the student's own.

IB MYP Sciences & Maths

MYP 1-5

Criterion B and C ask for a specific kind of analytical writing that most students have simply never been taught to produce.

IB MYP Personal Project

MYP 5

A process journal written in short weekly entries holds up far better under review than one written from memory the week before it is due.

IGCSE coverage

IGCSE subjects we tutor

Two boards, one subject name, two different exams: Cambridge 0580 Extended and Edexcel 4MA1 Higher do not prepare a student for each other, so getting the board, code and tier right comes before anything else in an IGCSE match for a Patiala student.

IGCSE Mathematics 0580

Core / Extended

Method marks vanish on the non-calculator paper more often from misreading a command word than from a genuine maths error.

IGCSE Additional Mathematics 0606

Class 10

Calculus and vector work here give a Class 11 student starting Maths AA HL a genuine head start rather than a cold one.

Edexcel IGCSE Mathematics A 4MA1

Foundation / Higher

Question wording on the Higher paper reads noticeably differently from Cambridge's, and preparation needs to reflect that directly.

IGCSE Physics 0625

Core / Extended

Confidence with rearranging an equation under pressure decides more marks on this paper than raw formula recall does.

IGCSE Chemistry 0620

Core / Extended

Mole calculations and the practical-alternative paper reward a consistent method far more than they reward a fast one.

IGCSE Biology 0610

Core / Extended

Genetics questions and the longer written answers at Extended tier ask for structure, not just correct facts.

IGCSE Combined & Coordinated Sciences

0653 / 0654

Three subjects share one revision calendar here, and the risk is always that the weakest of the three gets the least time.

IGCSE Economics 0455

Class 9-10

The gap between a pass and a strong grade sits almost entirely in the evaluation paragraph, not the definitions before it.

IGCSE Business Studies 0450

Class 9-10

Marks come from applying an idea to the actual scenario on the page, not from repeating a memorised textbook answer.

IGCSE Accounting 0452

Class 9-10

Presentation of the final accounts carries real marks here, independent of whether the underlying figures are correct.

IGCSE Computer Science 0478

Class 9-10

Trace tables reward patience over speed, and Python practice matters more here than reading about programming.

IGCSE English First Language 0500

Class 9-10

A close, slow read of the unseen passage does more for the summary and composition marks than a fast first pass.

IGCSE English as a Second Language 0510

Class 9-10

Speaking is the component students avoid practising and the one that improves fastest once it is actually rehearsed aloud.

IGCSE Geography & History

0460 / 0470

Naming the actual case study, not a generic example, is usually the single biggest gap between a good and an average answer.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around Patiala school timetables

There is only one lesson format in Patiala: online. Once that is accepted, the real choice a family makes is between a proper one-to-one online class, a local coaching batch built for a different board, and simply managing alone.

Live one-to-one online class

A private video class matched to your child's exact course and level, with a shared screen for working and a saved record of what was covered. This is the only format IB Gram offers in Patiala.

  • Draws on subject specialists well beyond what Patiala's local market carries
  • Works across PYP, MYP, DP and IGCSE, at any level
  • Nothing lost to travel time or evening traffic
  • A written note after every session

Local coaching batch

Group coaching in Patiala is strong for PSEB, CBSE, JEE and NEET, but a mixed-syllabus batch rarely matches IB's criterion marking or IGCSE's tier system closely enough to be worth the seat.

  • Useful for peer pressure and a fixed weekly timetable
  • Almost never built around a specific IB level or IGCSE tier
  • Little individual feedback on an IA draft or a coursework piece
  • Cheaper per hour, but the syllabus mismatch often costs more time

Managing without a tutor

Some Patiala students get by on the school's own support and past papers, bringing in a tutor only around mocks or for one persistently weak topic.

  • Lowest cost, and workable for a confident, organised student
  • Gaps tend to surface late, often at a report card or mock result
  • A single pre-exam block of sessions can still catch most of it
  • Rarely enough on its own for HL sciences or Maths AA

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Patiala

01

IB and IGCSE families in a city built around PSEB and CBSE

  • No confirmed IB or IGCSE school currently inside Patiala city
  • PSEB, CBSE and ICSE dominate the local school system
  • NRI, defence and business families drive most of the demand
  • Students often study IB or IGCSE partly or fully outside the city

Patiala's school system runs overwhelmingly on the Punjab School Education Board and CBSE, with ICSE present in a handful of established private schools. We have not been able to confirm any school inside Patiala city currently offering the IB or a Cambridge or Edexcel IGCSE programme, which puts the city firmly among the smaller markets for these curricula rather than the larger ones.

That does not mean there is no demand. Families choosing IB or IGCSE from Patiala tend to fall into a few groups: business families connected to Thapar University's engineering pipeline or the Rajpura industrial belt who plan an overseas university for their child, defence and government-transfer families used to moving between cities and boards, and a genuinely large NRI Punjabi community, with strong ties to Canada, the UK and Australia, who want a curriculum that reads consistently wherever the family ends up next.

In practice, this usually means one of two things: a child boarding at, or admitted to, an IB or IGCSE school outside Patiala while the family stays in the city, or a child studying at a Patiala CBSE or PSEB school while sitting IGCSE privately for one or two subjects, most often English or Mathematics, as part of an overseas application strategy.

Either way, the tutoring need is specific and the local supply is thin, which is exactly the gap an online, India-wide tutor pool is built to close.

02

PSEB, CBSE, ICSE or IB and IGCSE: what actually changes for a Patiala student?

PSEB suits a family staying inside Punjab's own college and government-job pipeline, with lower fees and strong Punjabi-medium options. CBSE is the default for families expecting to move within India, since admissions offices everywhere understand it instantly. ICSE, less common in Patiala than in bigger cities, suits English-medium families who value its longer-form written papers. IB and IGCSE suit families who expect a foreign university, or simply want a curriculum built around explanation rather than recall.

The practical difference tutors notice first is the question style. PSEB and CBSE reward accurate recall against a fixed answer key; IB and IGCSE reward application and, in IB's case, marking against published criteria. A student who has always scored well on PSEB-style questions is not automatically ready for an IGCSE Extended-tier question or an IB Paper 2 essay without some retraining in how the answer should be built.

Assessment structure differs too. PSEB and CBSE are almost entirely final-exam based. IB adds Internal Assessment worth roughly a fifth to a third of most Diploma subject grades, continuously through the two years. IGCSE mixes pure-exam subjects with a smaller number of coursework ones. A tutoring plan needs to reflect that from month one, not just before the final paper.

None of these boards is inherently harder; each is built for a different destination. A Patiala family's real decision point is usually where the child is likely to study after Class 12, more than which board has the better local reputation.

03

What actually drives the cost of IB or IGCSE tuition for a Patiala student?

  • HL sciences and Maths cost more than MYP or IGCSE Core support
  • Niche subjects cost more simply because fewer tutors teach them
  • No travel premium, since every Patiala session is online
  • Fee confirmed in writing before the trial, no long contract

The subject and level matter far more than the city. Diploma HL sciences and Maths cost more per hour than MYP or IGCSE Core work, simply because good tutors for them are scarcer everywhere, and that scarcity is more pronounced from a city like Patiala than from a metro with its own IB school cluster. A niche subject, say Computer Science or Additional Mathematics, carries a premium for the same reason.

How often sessions run matters next. A single weekly hour across the school year costs less overall than the twice-weekly pattern many families move to before mocks or an exam series, and starting late, in the final term before an external exam, usually needs a denser schedule to make up ground, which raises the total even without a higher hourly rate.

Because sessions are online, there is no travel premium built into a Patiala quote, something home-visit tutoring in a bigger city cannot avoid. We give the exact fee for your child's specific match, in writing, before the trial class runs, and we do not publish a general price list, since a fair number depends entirely on the actual subject and level.

There is no long lock-in either way. We check in every few weeks, and a family can pause or stop with no penalty if plans change, which happens often enough in a city with as much transfer and relocation activity as Patiala's.

04

Online class, coaching batch or self-study: what suits a Patiala IB or IGCSE student?

For IB and IGCSE specifically, a live one-to-one online class is usually the stronger option from Patiala, because the local batch-coaching market, however strong it is for PSEB and competitive exams, was not built with these two curricula in mind. Going online reaches a tutor who has genuinely taught the exact IB level or IGCSE tier your child is sitting.

A coaching batch can still add value as a supplement, mainly for students who want the discipline of a fixed group timetable, but a class built for CBSE or PSEB rarely tracks IB's criterion marking or an IGCSE tier's specific demands closely enough to move a Diploma or IGCSE grade on its own.

A tutor visiting your home is not something IB Gram offers in Patiala, stated plainly: our tutors work with Patiala families online only, and in-person visits currently run only in Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR. Managing without any outside help works for confident, self-directed students, though gaps in an unfamiliar exam style tend to surface only once a mock result is back.

The table sets out how these actually compare for a Patiala family, not as a general study-habits argument but specifically for IB and IGCSE preparation.

The Patiala academic year: exams, Baisakhi and the wedding season

Patiala schools broadly follow an April-to-March year, while IB and IGCSE exams follow their own worldwide calendar regardless of the local term dates. IB Diploma exams sit in May globally, with November as the smaller resit session; Cambridge IGCSE sits May-June and October-November; Edexcel IGCSE sits January and May-June. A tutoring plan should work backwards from these fixed dates rather than the school's own timetable alone.

Baisakhi in mid-April marks both the Punjabi New Year and the wheat harvest, and it tends to bring a short but genuine dip in study focus across Patiala households, alongside the peak of the region's wedding season, which regularly reshuffles evening plans through winter and into spring. Building some slack around both into a session schedule avoids a term of cancelled and rescheduled classes.

Lohri in January and the Diwali period in autumn are shorter breaks but still worth planning around, particularly for younger PYP and MYP students whose routines shift more than an exam-year DP or IGCSE student's does.

School mocks typically land in December and again close to the external exam window, and IB predicted grades for university applications are usually set in the autumn of the final year. Both points are natural moments to add a second weekly session if a subject is genuinely behind.

06

Where do IB and IGCSE results from Patiala actually lead?

For Indian admissions, IB and IGCSE results carry through the Association of Indian Universities equivalence, which feeds into the CUET-UG process most Indian universities now use, provided the subject combination lines up with the course requirement. Given how much of Patiala's IB and IGCSE cohort studies partly outside the city, checking this equivalence in Class 11, not after results land, matters more here than in a city with an established local IB school.

Engineering and medicine still require JEE or NEET separately for a government college seat in India; neither the Diploma nor IGCSE substitutes for either exam, though solid Physics, Chemistry or Maths grounding from either curriculum genuinely helps once a student sits down for JEE or NEET preparation.

For the meaningful share of Patiala's IB and IGCSE families planning a move abroad, often building on existing family ties in Canada, the UK or Australia, subject choice needs to match the destination early. UK offers are usually framed as total IB points with Higher Level minimums; Canadian and Australian universities publish their own equivalence tables; US applications weigh predicted grades within a wider profile.

IB Gram's tutors stay on the academic side of this: subject preparation, predicted-grade improvement and exam technique. We can tell a family which subjects and levels a target course typically expects, so a Patiala student's limited tutoring hours go toward what actually affects the outcome.

07

IB Maths AA and AI, and the sciences, for a Patiala student without a local IB peer group

  • AA suits proof and abstract method; AI suits modelling and data
  • HL Paper 3 rewards unfamiliar problem-solving, not memorised steps
  • Science IAs need a workable question fixed by mid-Class 11
  • Marked past papers usually move a predicted grade faster than new content

Maths Analysis and Approaches suits a student heading toward engineering, physical sciences or economics and comfortable with proof and abstract method; Applications and Interpretation suits one who reasons better through modelling, statistics and real data sets. That choice, usually made at the end of Class 10 or the start of Class 11, should follow the student's genuine strengths, since a Patiala student rarely has classmates on the other route to compare notes with.

Both routes assume real comfort with a graphic display calculator, and Higher Level's Paper 3 presents unfamiliar, multi-step problems rather than routine ones. Students arriving from PSEB or CBSE, where problem sets tend to be more formulaic, often need deliberate practice simply reading a long IB question correctly before attempting an answer.

In the sciences, Physics, Chemistry and Biology HL each carry a Scientific Investigation worth around a fifth of the subject grade, and without a school full of peers doing the same investigation, a Patiala student can easily leave the research question too vague for too long. Settling it by the middle of Class 11 keeps the timeline realistic.

A tutor's clearest value here is exam technique specific to the current syllabus rather than re-covering content the school has already taught well; three or four recently marked past papers, graded honestly against the actual criteria, usually move a predicted grade faster than another set of textbook exercises.

08

IGCSE Core, Extended or Higher: getting the tier right without a local school's guidance

  • Extended and Higher tiers open the full grade range
  • Core or Foundation suits a secure pass over a top grade
  • Additional Maths 0606 gives the smoothest run into Maths AA HL
  • Subject choices should anticipate the Diploma subjects that follow

Extended tier in Cambridge IGCSE, and Higher tier in Edexcel, open the full grade range in subjects like Mathematics and the sciences; Core or Foundation caps the top achievable grade but asks for less depth, suiting a student who most needs a secure pass. Without a full IGCSE school cohort in Patiala to benchmark against, this decision, usually made at the end of Class 9, needs an honest read of the student's own trajectory rather than a peer-group default.

For a Patiala student planning the IB Diploma afterwards, Extended-tier Maths and sciences, ideally alongside Additional Mathematics 0606, make the jump into Diploma HL considerably less of a shock. Starting Maths AA HL after Core-tier Maths means starting from an actual content gap, not just an unfamiliar exam style.

Cambridge and Edexcel use different tier names and grade boundaries for broadly the same idea, and a family moving between the two, which does happen with relocation, needs a tutor who genuinely works with both boards' past papers rather than treating one as a stand-in for the other.

Subject choice within IGCSE should look ahead. A student likely to take IB Business Management or Economics HL benefits from studying IGCSE Business Studies or Economics first; one aiming at Computer Science HL benefits far more from IGCSE Computer Science 0478 than from ICT 0417, which is a different, far less programming-focused syllabus.

Where we tutor

Patiala localities we take calls from

Since every class is online, a tutor's own location never matters here. What we do plan around is your household's actual routine in Patiala: when the school day, tuition and any competitive-exam coaching finish, and when a quiet room and decent internet are genuinely free.

Model Town

A well-established residential area with a mix of CBSE and PSEB schools; evening slots after school and any coaching classes work best here.

Urban Estate Phase I and II

Planned residential sectors popular with professional families, several of whom are considering IGCSE for an older child heading toward study abroad.

Tripuri Town

A quieter residential belt where families often prefer a fixed weekly slot rather than a shifting one.

Leela Bhawan

Central Patiala, close to several established schools and coaching centres, with plenty of evening traffic that online classes simply avoid.

Sheranwala Gate and the old walled city

Historic central Patiala around Qila Mubarak, home to many long-settled families alongside newer arrivals.

Bhupindra Nagar

A residential pocket close to Thapar University, popular with families of visiting or teaching faculty.

Rajpura Road corridor

The route toward Rajpura's industrial belt, home to business families for whom an international curriculum is part of a wider plan to study or work abroad.

Sanaur Road

Newer development on the city's edge, with younger families and a growing interest in IGCSE for children currently in CBSE schools.

New Lal Bagh Colony

Established, leafy central Patiala with easy access to Punjabi University and the main hospital corridor.

Nabha Road

Connects Patiala to the smaller town of Nabha; families here often study online rather than commute for any specialist tuition.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Patiala

Patiala

We have not been able to confirm a school within Patiala city itself currently running the IB or a Cambridge or Edexcel IGCSE programme; PSEB, CBSE and ICSE schools dominate here, and students on IB or IGCSE syllabuses are almost always studying through a school elsewhere or a distance arrangement.

    Nearby: Chandigarh and Mohali

The tri-city area roughly ninety minutes away has a larger pool of schools describing themselves as international, though we have not independently verified specific IB or IGCSE authorisation for any of them, so we name none here and would confirm before recommending one.

Nearby: Delhi NCR and the Doon Valley

A share of Patiala's business and NRI families board children at established IB or IGCSE schools further afield, in Delhi NCR or the Dehradun and Mussoorie belt, and keep an online tutor for continuity during the term and the holidays.

No school named or implied on this page is a partner, licensee or client of IB Gram. Any school reference exists purely to explain where families in and around Patiala are studying, and carries no endorsement from the International Baccalaureate, Cambridge Assessment International Education or Pearson Edexcel.

        How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

        1. 01

          Tell us where things stand

Programme or board, subject and level, current grade, and the hours that genuinely work for your Patiala household.

        2. 02

Get two or three real options

Tutors who have recently taught that exact course, each with a plain reason they made the shortlist.

        3. 03

          Sit one class, free

Your child works through a real topic with the tutor over video before any payment or sign-up happens.

        4. 04

Set a plan for the month

The tutor writes out what the coming weeks cover and how you will hear about progress; you approve it or ask for changes.

        5. 05

          Keep it honest afterwards

Regular check-ins, extra sessions before mocks if a subject needs it, and a straight swap of tutor if the fit is not right.

        Why families choose us

What Patiala parents tell us matters most

        The course decides the tutor

Maths AA HL and IGCSE 0580 Core call for different people entirely; a blanket 'IB tutor' is not how any of our shortlists work.

Reach beyond a thin local bench

Where Patiala's own tutor bench runs shallow for a subject, going online is simply how a genuine specialist gets found.

        Watch first, decide after

One class happens before any money changes hands, so the decision rests on what you actually saw, not a written bio.

        Assessed work stays untouched

Feedback and structure on IAs, coursework, the EE and TOK, and nothing beyond that ever gets written by a tutor.

A record, not just a memory

Notes follow each class, and a proper look at progress happens every few weeks rather than only at report-card time.

        Free to walk away

No board tie-up, no minimum number of months, and switching tutors is a request, not a negotiation.

        Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Patiala: your questions answered

Will someone actually visit our house in Patiala for lessons?+

No. Home visits are something IB Gram currently runs only in Gurugram and a few parts of Delhi NCR; a Patiala lesson is always a live video call, one to one, from wherever your child is comfortable at home. Given how few tutors in Patiala itself have taught a real IB or IGCSE course, this arrangement usually gets your child a stronger subject match than a knock on the door would.

How does a Patiala family actually start with an IB tutor?+

Send across the programme, subject, level and what school your child is currently at, and a shortlist comes back of tutors who have taught that precise course recently. Subject and level get matched first, timing around your household second. Nothing is decided until after a free class, and if the tutor is wrong for your child, another name follows without a fuss.

Do you handle both Cambridge and Edexcel IGCSE syllabuses?+

We do. A Cambridge student is matched against their exact code and tier, Mathematics 0580 Extended or Chemistry 0620 Core for instance, and an Edexcel student against their specification and Foundation or Higher tier. Tutors stick to the right board's past papers throughout, since the two exam boards genuinely differ in phrasing, timing and grading conventions.

What should a Patiala family expect to pay?+

The number moves with the subject, the level, how long each session runs and how experienced the tutor is, and we put it in writing for your specific match before a rupee changes hands. HL sciences and Maths at Diploma level sit above MYP or IGCSE Core work, and a scarce subject costs more simply because fewer people teach it well. Stopping or pausing at any point carries no penalty.

Do you work with families in every part of Patiala?+

Yes, because location stops mattering the moment a class is online. Households across Model Town, Urban Estate, Tripuri Town, Leela Bhawan, the old city near Sheranwala Gate, Bhupindra Nagar and the Rajpura and Sanaur road stretches are all equally easy for us to place a tutor with, since none of them require anyone to travel anywhere.

Can we see a class before agreeing to anything?+

Yes, at no cost either way. The tutor teaches a genuine topic from your child's own syllabus over video, so what you are judging is a real lesson rather than a résumé. A short plan for the weeks ahead comes afterward, and it is only then that you say yes, ask for changes, or request someone else entirely.

Does any school inside Patiala itself run the IB or IGCSE?+

Not one we have been able to confirm. PSEB and CBSE schools, with a smaller number on ICSE, make up the city's system. A Patiala family on IB or IGCSE almost always has a child boarding elsewhere, enrolled at a school in another city, or sitting an IGCSE subject or two privately while otherwise attending a local CBSE or PSEB school.

Can a tutor write parts of an IA or the Extended Essay for my child?+

No, and that line does not move. A tutor's job is to stress-test a research question, unpack what a mark scheme is really asking, sanity-check a data set and mark up a draft honestly, all without touching the actual words on the page. Producing assessed work for a student breaches IB integrity rules outright and can cost the Diploma itself.

Which Diploma subjects are actually available to Patiala students?+

The full spread across the six subject groups: Maths AA and AI at HL and SL, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Economics, Business Management, English A, Computer Science, Psychology, ESS, Geography, History, plus Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay.

Is support available for MYP and PYP students too, not only DP?+

Yes, right across the continuum. MYP work concentrates on the four marking criteria across sciences, maths and Language and Literature, plus the Personal Project's process journal. PYP work builds reading, writing and number confidence for younger children, generally in shorter sessions held more often than a Diploma student needs.

Cambridge or Edexcel: does it actually matter which one my child sits?+

It matters a great deal. Both award an IGCSE, but Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel run different codes, tiers and exam windows, Cambridge sitting Core and Extended exams in May-June and October-November, Edexcel sitting Foundation and Higher exams in January and May-June. Because Patiala students studying IGCSE are usually enrolled with a Cambridge-affiliated school elsewhere, a tutor trained on Edexcel content can genuinely waste study time.

What actually changes moving from PSEB or CBSE to IB or IGCSE?+

PSEB and CBSE mostly reward accurate recall against a fixed answer format. IB layers in continuous Internal Assessment across roughly a fifth to a third of most Diploma grades and marks it against published criteria; IGCSE keeps most subjects exam-only with a few coursework exceptions. The adjustment a student usually needs is in applying and evaluating, not in learning new facts.

What is the right time to bring in a tutor?+

As near to the start of the course as possible, Class 11 for the Diploma and Class 9 for IGCSE, so foundations are solid before internal exams and predicted grades start to matter. Coming in late, during the final year, still helps, but the work narrows down to the highest-value topics and marked past papers rather than the full syllabus.

My child is moving from CBSE into IGCSE or the IB. Where does a tutor actually help?+

This is one of the more frequent reasons Patiala families get in touch. The gap in actual content tends to be smaller than parents assume; what really needs work is answering style, since both IB and IGCSE mark for explanation and application rather than recall. A tutor who has taught both systems can close that within weeks, best started over the summer before the move.

Do Baisakhi, harvest season or the wedding calendar get in the way of sessions?+

Sometimes, for a few days at a time. Baisakhi in mid-April slows most Patiala households down briefly, and the long winter-into-spring wedding season regularly reshuffles evening plans across the city. Weekly sessions can simply pause around the actual event, with the calmer days on either side often used for a concentrated push on one weak area.

Does an IB or IGCSE background help with JEE, NEET or CUET?+

Neither the Diploma nor IGCSE stands in for JEE or NEET, both of which a student still sits separately for an engineering or medical seat in India, though solid Physics, Chemistry or Maths grounding from either curriculum carries over usefully. General university admission usually runs through Association of Indian Universities equivalence feeding CUET-UG, and that eligibility is worth confirming in Class 11, well before results.

What is the process if a tutor genuinely is not working out?+

Flag it, and a replacement gets arranged, plainly and without needing to justify the decision. Progress is reviewed with families every few weeks anyway, precisely so a poor match does not silently run for months. There is no contract locking anyone in, and pausing or ending sessions altogether is equally available.

Does IB Gram represent any Patiala school or examining board?+

It does not. IB Gram is an independent business with no partnership, licence or endorsement tying it to any school on this page or to the International Baccalaureate, Cambridge Assessment International Education or Pearson Edexcel. Schools appear here only to show where Patiala's IB and IGCSE families are actually enrolled, and tutors simply follow each one's own calendar and the relevant board's syllabus.

Does Patiala's large NRI community change how tutoring gets planned?+

It shapes quite a lot of it, since a meaningful share of our Patiala enquiries come from families with children ultimately headed to Canada, the UK or Australia. That usually means subject choices and exam-board decisions get made with a specific destination country in mind from Class 9 or Class 11 onward, rather than left open until university applications begin.
