IB & IGCSE in Raikot

IB and IGCSE tutors in Raikot: online lessons for a Malwa town

Raikot sits in the Malwa belt of Ludhiana district, a market and grain town in the middle of some of the most intensively farmed land in India. Its streets are busy with trucks, tractors and mandi traders, and its schools are mostly Punjab School Education Board and CBSE institutions. Nobody should pretend there is an IB campus on the town's main road. What there is, though, is a steady group of households that think beyond the district: families with sons, daughters or cousins in Canada, Australia or the UK, landowning families who want a different future for a child, and professionals who have returned or are about to leave.

Those households are why IB and IGCSE tutors in Raikot get searched for. A child may be preparing for a move to an international school in Chandigarh, Mohali or Ludhiana, may already be studying an international syllabus in a boarding school and wants a second pair of eyes during the holidays, or may be a Class 9 student quietly working through IGCSE papers because the family has a study-abroad plan. In each of these situations, a tutor who knows the course matters far more than one who simply lives nearby.

Home tuition in Raikot, as we run it, is online home tuition. Tutors do not come to your house; in-person lessons are available only in Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR. Your child studies at home, on a laptop, with a specialist who writes on a shared board, reviews scanned working in real time and sends a written note afterwards. Because the tutor need not be anywhere near Ludhiana district, we can look across India for someone who has taught IB Chemistry HL or IGCSE Extended Mathematics for years.

IB Gram is an independent tutoring service. We have no connection with the International Baccalaureate, Cambridge University Press and Assessment, Pearson Edexcel or any school mentioned on this page.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to Raikot school years

A family in Raikot usually meets the IB at one remove: a school in a bigger city, a cousin's experience abroad, or a decision about Class 9. Here is what each programme asks of a student, and where a tutor helps without doing anything on the child's behalf.

PYPNursery to Class 5, ages 3-12

IB Primary Years Programme

Learning is organised around big questions that cut across subjects, and the final year closes with a student-led PYP Exhibition.

Punjabi is the language of most Raikot homes, so younger children benefit from patient English reading aloud and talking in full sentences, rather than from worksheet drills.

MYPClass 6-10, ages 11-16

IB Middle Years Programme

Eight subject groups assessed against published criteria, followed in the last year by an independent Personal Project.

Children who arrive from a PSEB or CBSE school are often strong at memorising and need practice in explaining a method in their own words.

DPClass 11-12, ages 16-19

IB Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three or four at Higher Level, alongside Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS, with exams in May or November.

Diploma students linked to Raikot study at schools in other cities or in boarding, so we fit lessons around hostel or school timetables that we do not control.

CPClass 11-12, ages 16-19

IB Career-related Programme

A pair of DP courses sits beside a career-related study, a reflective project and a skills strand.

Very few schools in northern India run the CP; where one is found, the DP courses inside it are tutored like any other Diploma subject.

Subject coverage

IB subjects we tutor

A tutor must know the specific course, not just the subject. IB Maths Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level is far from Applications and Interpretation at Standard Level, and a fine Physics teacher may never have seen the IB internal assessment. This is what we cover for Raikot students.

IB Mathematics Analysis & Approaches

HL / SL

Functions, calculus and proof, practised as long structured solutions, with Paper 3 problem-solving added at Higher Level.

IB Mathematics Applications & Interpretation

HL / SL

Modelling, statistics and finance with technology, and a sensible exploration topic chosen early.

IB Physics

HL / SL

Mechanics, waves, fields and modern physics, with attention to how data-based answers are worded and how an investigation is planned.

IB Chemistry

HL / SL

Stoichiometry, energetics, equilibrium and organic chains, taught with a lot of numerical practice.

IB Biology

HL / SL

Cell biology to ecology, trained around command terms and the clear diagrams examiners reward.

IB Economics

HL / SL

Diagrams that actually answer the question, and commentaries built on live Indian and global examples such as agricultural markets.

IB Business Management

HL / SL

Case-study analysis with real tools, and a research project based on a business the student can observe, for example a local dairy or agro-processing unit.

IB English A Language & Literature

HL / SL

Close reading of unseen texts, comparative essays and rehearsal of the individual oral.

IB Computer Science

HL / SL

Algorithms, data structures and programming, plus written explanations of design choices.

IB Psychology

HL / SL

Studies, evaluation and the short-answer to essay ladder across both papers.

IB Punjabi and Hindi

SL / HL

Language A or B support for students whose family language is Punjabi or Hindi, covering written accuracy and the oral.

IB Geography

HL / SL

Case-study recall, data response and fieldwork write-up, using examples such as river basins and groundwater use.

IB History

HL / SL

Source analysis, essay planning and a focused question for the historical investigation.

Theory of Knowledge (TOK)

DP Core

Talking through knowledge questions and exhibition objects so the thinking on the page belongs to the student.

Extended Essay (EE)

DP Core

Choosing a researchable question and shaping an argument, with the writing done wholly by the student.

IB MYP Sciences & Mathematics

MYP 1-5

Criterion-referenced lab reports and problem solving that build habits for the Diploma sciences.

IB MYP Individuals & Societies and Language

MYP 1-5

Source questions, essay structure and steady progress on the Personal Project journal.

IGCSE coverage

IGCSE subjects we tutor

We found no verified Cambridge or Edexcel IGCSE school inside Raikot, so most requests come from students in Ludhiana, Mohali or boarding schools, and from families preparing a child for a move. These are the subjects tutors handle most, across both boards.

IGCSE Mathematics 0580 / 4MA1

Core / Extended

Algebra, geometry, trigonometry and statistics with careful written working and past-paper practice.

IGCSE Additional Mathematics 0606

Extended

Differentiation, integration and trigonometric identities as groundwork for IB Maths AA or A Level.

IGCSE Physics

Core / Extended

Forces, energy, circuits and waves, plus the alternative-to-practical paper.

IGCSE Biology

Core / Extended

Cells, nutrition, inheritance and ecosystems, with practice on long-answer structure.

IGCSE Combined and Co-ordinated Sciences

Core / Extended

One balanced course for students who take the sciences together rather than separately.

IGCSE English First and Second Language

Core / Extended

Comprehension, summary, directed writing and the speaking and listening components.

IGCSE Economics and Business Studies

Extended

Definitions, data response and short case studies written to the mark scheme.

IGCSE Computer Science

Extended

Pseudocode, logic and programming, practised on exam-style problems.

IGCSE Hindi and Punjabi

First / Second Language

Reading, composition and grammar for students taking a home language as a school subject.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around Raikot school timetables

Tutors do not visit homes in Raikot; in-person lessons run only in Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR. Three online arrangements are available, and the right one depends on how near the exams are and who is studying.

Weekly lessons through the school year

One tutor, one fixed slot, following whatever the school is teaching that month.

  • Suits steady improvement across a term
  • A parent may join the first lesson
  • Notes sent after each session
  • Easy to move around exams or village functions

Short intensive blocks before exams

More frequent sessions in the weeks ahead of mocks, a transfer test or the May and November series.

  • Built from the latest mock paper
  • Genuine past papers and mark schemes
  • Timed questions with marked feedback
  • Eased back after the exam window

Shared lessons for siblings or cousins

Two children on the same course can share a session and divide the cost.

  • Works well for MYP and IGCSE Core
  • Lower rate per child
  • Separate slots nearer the exams
  • One written note for both

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Raikot

01

Does Raikot have IB or IGCSE schools, and which families look for them?

  • No verified IB or IGCSE school in Raikot itself
  • Ludhiana, Mohali and Chandigarh are the realistic school options
  • NRI-linked and landowning families drive most enquiries
  • Tutoring covers the move, then the exam years

Not that we can confirm. After checking what is publicly listed, we did not find an IB-authorised school or a Cambridge or Pearson Edexcel centre in Raikot itself, and we would rather say that plainly than fill this page with names that might not hold up. The town's schools teach the Punjab School Education Board curriculum or CBSE, with a handful of private schools preparing students for Class 10 and 12 boards.

Still, the interest exists. Punjab sends a remarkable number of young people abroad, and the Malwa region is no exception. A family in Raikot with a daughter in Brampton or a nephew in Melbourne tends to think about syllabuses that overseas admissions offices recognise at a glance. Others are farming or trading families who have reached a point where they can afford a boarding school, and look at the IB as a broader education.

The realistic routes therefore run through other cities: Ludhiana for a commute or hostel, and Mohali, Chandigarh or beyond for a full international school. Some students switch after Class 8 or 10, and a few transfer into the Diploma at Class 11. A tutor is most useful at the hinge points of that journey, closing gaps before the move and keeping a hard subject afloat afterwards.

If your child is staying in Raikot but you want the IB or IGCSE way of thinking, Maths and the sciences are the places a specialist can help most, since their structure is similar across boards.

02

PSEB, CBSE, IB or IGCSE: which fits a student growing up in Raikot?

  • Neither route is easier; they test different skills
  • NEET and JEE hopefuls often stay with CBSE
  • IB and IGCSE suit those eyeing study abroad
  • Switching is simplest at Class 9 or Class 11

PSEB and CBSE are the two boards Raikot students know, and both reward a student who has studied the textbook closely and can reproduce it under time pressure. The IB takes a different angle: it counts coursework alongside exams, asks for reasons as well as answers, and expects students to read, argue and investigate on their own. IGCSE is in the middle, with defined syllabuses and an application style that is closer to the IB than to a typical board paper.

For a Raikot family the decision often rests on what happens after school. A child aiming at medicine or engineering in India through NEET or JEE generally does well to stay in CBSE with focused coaching. A child headed for Canada, Australia, the UK or the US, or toward a liberal-arts style programme, may find IB or IGCSE preparation more useful.

Neither choice shuts a door. An IGCSE student can proceed to A Levels or the IB Diploma, and an IB student can still sit CUET-UG or NEET if the subjects match. What causes trouble is changing systems late and arriving without the right habits.

The table sets out the contrasts parents in this part of Punjab raise most often.

03

What shapes the cost of IB or IGCSE tutoring in Raikot?

A single number would be misleading, because a Higher Level Physics student and an IGCSE Core Maths student need very different tutors. We do not list prices. Once we understand your child's situation, we send a rate in writing before booking, so you can think about it calmly.

Subject and level come first. Teachers of IB Maths AA HL or Chemistry HL are fewer in number, and their experience shows in how quickly a student improves. The tutor's track record on that precise syllabus, including any examining experience, is the second factor, and the number of lessons per week is the third.

Group size matters too. Siblings or cousins studying together split one tutor's hour, which cuts the cost per child without reducing the quality of teaching.

Compared with the Maths and Science coaching available in Ludhiana or Jagraon, which is mostly pitched at CBSE boards and entrance tests, specialist IB teaching has a higher hourly rate but wastes less time. Most families find a free trial more informative than any rate comparison, so ask for one first.

04

Online home tuition, coaching class, local tutor or self-study: how do they differ in Raikot?

Raikot and Jagraon have no shortage of tuition, but almost all of it targets PSEB and CBSE boards, the NEET and JEE entrance tests, or IELTS. The question for an IB or IGCSE family is therefore not who is cheapest, but who has actually taught the syllabus.

Online one-to-one teaching from home puts the child at their own desk and gives access to specialists anywhere in India. A coaching class offers energy and competition but follows its own syllabus. A local private tutor may be dependable and flexible, though knowledge of IB markschemes or Cambridge command words is rare. Self-study with past papers is free and works for disciplined students.

Most families end up combining. A common pattern is self-study during the week, one online lesson aimed at the subject that is slipping, and a coaching batch only when an Indian entrance test is also in view.

The table below puts the four routes next to one another for a Raikot household.

Four ways to get IB or IGCSE help around Raikot
RouteSyllabus knowledgeTimingBest for

Coaching class in Jagraon or LudhianaStrong for PSEB, CBSE, NEET and JEE; rarely IB or IGCSEFixed batch hours and a commuteA student who also needs Indian entrance preparation

05

How do Punjab's seasons and festivals affect exam preparation in Raikot?

The farm calendar sets the rhythm of this town. Wheat is harvested in April, just as IB and IGCSE students enter their final revision, and families with land are often stretched thin. Paddy transplanting in June and harvest in October bring another busy stretch, while the smoke haze of late autumn can aggravate allergies and breathing. Winter brings thick fog, which disrupts school transport more than study itself, and Lohri in mid-January and Baisakhi in April are fixed points of the year.

Summers are very hot, with power cuts at times in peak months, so we advise using the cooler evening hours for lessons. Monsoon rains from July can flood fields and low roads. Since our sessions are online, the real risk is a lost connection, not a lost journey, and we offer make-up slots when that happens.

On the exam side, IB assessments run in May, with a November session in some regions. Cambridge IGCSE has May-June and October-November series, and Pearson Edexcel adds January. Revision usually starts three to four months ahead, concentrates on past papers in the final six weeks, and leaves the last fortnight for consolidation.

The table shows how the year lines up.

Raikot's year and the exam windows
MonthsOn the groundOur study plan
December to JanuaryDense fog, Lohri, winter breakHome-based lessons, fewer travel disruptions, mock review
February to AprilBoard season, wheat harvest, BaisakhiEarly revision for May, flexible slots for busy farm weeks
May to JuneIB and IGCSE main exams, heat, paddy transplantingShort exam-run blocks, then lighter schedule
July to SeptemberMonsoon, new school yearSteady weekly lessons, make-up slots kept free
October to NovemberPaddy harvest, stubble-burning haze, Diwali, retake seriesFocused revision, shorter and more precise sessions
06

Where can a Raikot student go after the IB or IGCSE?

  • Canada, the UK, Australia and the US for most study-abroad plans
  • AIU recognition for admission to Indian universities
  • CUET-UG open to IB and IGCSE students with fitting subjects
  • NEET and JEE require specific subject combinations

For most families here, Canada comes to mind first, and the UK, Australia and the United States follow. IB Diploma results, or IGCSE grades followed by A Levels, are understood by admissions offices in all those places without further explanation. We cannot predict any offer, and every university sets its own conditions.

At home, the Association of Indian Universities treats the IB Diploma and recognised IGCSE-based qualifications as valid for admission to many institutions. Punjab has well-known options nearby, including Punjab Agricultural University in Ludhiana, Panjab University in Chandigarh, Thapar in Patiala and a cluster of private universities. CUET-UG opens the door to central universities and many others, but a student must verify subject requirements each year.

For medicine, NEET-UG expects Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English, so an IB student with that goal should plan Biology and Chemistry early, preferably at Higher Level. JEE Main follows similar logic for Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Brochures change, so check the current one.

Agriculture and food-technology degrees deserve a mention in this district. A student interested in them can take Biology and Chemistry in the Diploma and then apply to Indian agricultural universities or overseas programmes.

Whatever the target, subject choices made at the start of the Diploma matter more than almost anything later.

07

How should a Raikot student approach IB Maths and the sciences?

IB Mathematics offers two routes. Analysis and Approaches is for students who enjoy algebra, calculus and proof, and it suits engineering, physics and mathematics degrees. Applications and Interpretation emphasises statistics, modelling and technology, which fits economics, commerce, psychology and many social sciences. Each can be taken at Standard or Higher Level.

The adjustment for a student coming from PSEB or CBSE is rarely about ability. It is about presentation: IB marks are awarded for method, notation and clear reasoning, and a bare right answer can lose marks. A tutor spends time on how a solution should read, not just on the content.

IB Physics, Chemistry and Biology each include an internal assessment, and Higher Level papers extend well past what a state board asks. In Chemistry, calculations and organic mechanisms cause most problems; in Physics, unfamiliar contexts; in Biology, the amount of recall plus disciplined long answers.

We coach the internal assessment but never write it. A tutor can talk through a question, method and structure, yet the data, analysis and wording must come from the student. We do not draft IAs, Extended Essays or TOK essays.

08

IGCSE Core or Extended: how does a Raikot family choose?

Many Cambridge and Edexcel IGCSE subjects offer two tiers. Core covers the essential syllabus and limits the best grade available. Extended adds more demanding content and allows the full range of grades. Mathematics, the sciences and some language papers follow this pattern.

The choice is normally made in Class 9 or early Class 10. A student comfortable with algebra and thinking of IB Maths AA, A Level sciences or engineering should aim for Extended. A student who finds a subject difficult, or who joins late, might sensibly choose Core and secure a dependable result.

Raikot children who move into an IGCSE school in Ludhiana or Mohali often arrive mid-course. We begin with recent classwork and one past paper, then plan backwards from the exam month to see what can realistically be covered.

Cambridge uses codes such as 0580 for Mathematics, and Edexcel uses codes like 4MA1. They look alike but paper layouts and command words differ, so we match the tutor to the board the school actually follows.

Where we tutor

Raikot and the villages and towns around it where families ask about IB and IGCSE tuition

Every lesson is online, so your address never narrows the tutor you get. It does help us plan around school timings, farm-season routines and the road to Ludhiana, so this is how we think about the area.

Raikot town centre and the old bazaar

Busy until late with traders and shoppers; evening lessons work best once the shop has closed and the household has settled.

Ludhiana Road side

The approach from Ludhiana, about 40 to 45 km away, where families with relatives and business links in the city often start asking about international schools.

Jagraon Road side

Toward Jagraon, the larger neighbouring town; students here commonly attend CBSE schools and look at Ludhiana for Class 11.

Grain market (mandi) area

Arhtiya and farming families live and work around here; schedules lighten during the wheat and paddy procurement weeks.

Jagraon

The nearby sub-divisional town, with its own mix of CBSE and PSEB schools and a number of NRI-linked families.

Kila Raipur

Known across Punjab for its rural sports festival; families here balance school with training and harvest commitments.

Mullanpur Dakha and Dakha

Villages and small towns on the Ludhiana side where children travel by bus to school, so lessons are placed after the return journey.

Sudhar and Halwara

Close to the Halwara airfield and the new airport project, with a mix of farming, defence and service households.

Talwandi Rai and surrounding villages

Village households who rely on a good phone connection; we suggest a trial run of the video link before the first lesson.

Sherpur and Hathur belt

Lies toward Ludhiana and Jagraon; many students are weekly boarders, so lessons are best scheduled for weekends.

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Raikot

Inside Raikot: limited local choice

We could not verify an IB school or a Cambridge or Edexcel IGCSE centre inside Raikot. Local schools follow PSEB or CBSE, so a child who wants an international qualification usually has to board or relocate.

    Nearby: Ludhiana

Roughly 40 to 45 km away by road, Ludhiana has a small number of international-curriculum schools, and some Raikot families consider the daily or boarding commute.

    • Britannica International School
    • Harvest International School

Nearby: Mohali and the Chandigarh region

A longer journey of a few hours, but the tricity has the widest choice of IB schools in Punjab, and boarding is a real option for older students.

    • Oakridge International School, Mohali
    • Strawberry Fields High School, Sector 26

The schools named below are in other cities and are listed only so you know what exists within reach of Raikot. IB Gram is an independent service with no link to any school, and we cannot promise admission. Please verify current IB or Cambridge authorisation with the school and the official websites.

    Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Raikot: your questions answered

Are there IB tutors in Raikot?+

Yes, online. We pair Raikot students with IB tutors who teach live over video, one to one, in Indian Standard Time, chosen for the programme, subject and level, from PYP English to Diploma Physics HL. Tutors do not travel to Raikot, because in-person lessons run only in Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR, but the online format lets us select from specialists across India.

Is there an IGCSE school in Raikot?+

We could not verify one. Raikot schools follow PSEB or CBSE, and the nearest institutions teaching Cambridge or Edexcel IGCSE are in Ludhiana and the Mohali and Chandigarh area. Please confirm any school's current status with it directly. A tutor can help before a move, afterwards, or when a student is preparing for IGCSE papers as a private candidate.

Can I get IB or IGCSE home tuition in Raikot?+

We offer online home tuition: private one-to-one lessons taken at home on a laptop. Tutors do not visit homes in Raikot, since home visits are limited to Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR. Many parents find the online version more useful because the tutor can be the best fit for the syllabus rather than the closest person, and lesson notes arrive in writing afterwards.

What does IB or IGCSE tuition cost in Raikot?+

The rate depends on the subject, level, tutor and weekly frequency, so there is no published price list. After hearing what your child needs, we send a rate in writing before you book, and the first trial lesson is free. Higher Level sciences and Maths AA usually cost more than IGCSE Core subjects, and sharing a lesson between siblings lowers the cost for each child.

Which boards do schools in and around Raikot follow?+

Mostly the Punjab School Education Board and CBSE, with a few schools following ICSE. International curricula are found in bigger cities such as Ludhiana, Mohali and Chandigarh. Children shifting from PSEB or CBSE to IB or IGCSE usually need help with question style, written reasoning and English fluency, which is where tutoring concentrates.

Can a Raikot student sit IB or IGCSE exams privately?+

Possibly for IGCSE, but it depends on the examining body and an approved centre. Cambridge and Edexcel accept private candidates through registered centres, whereas the IB Diploma normally needs enrolment in an authorised school. We help with preparation, though entry goes through the centre, so contact one early and check deadlines.

When do the IB and IGCSE exams take place?+

IB exams are held in May, with a November session in some regions. Cambridge IGCSE runs May-June and October-November, and Pearson Edexcel adds a January series for many subjects. Your school confirms entries. For Raikot students, revision for May often overlaps the wheat harvest, so we start earlier and plan around busy farm weeks.

How does online tuition work for a student in a Punjab town?+

The tutor and student meet on a video call with a shared whiteboard, and the student holds up or uploads written work for instant feedback. You need a laptop or tablet, a stable connection and a quiet corner. Lessons run in IST and a note follows. If a power cut or weak signal interrupts a session, we reschedule it without charge.

Will a tutor write my child's IA or Extended Essay?+

No. A tutor can coach, which means helping a student pick a workable question, discuss method and structure, and understand the criteria, but the writing, data and conclusions must be the student's own. We do not draft IAs, Extended Essays, TOK essays or other assessed coursework, and we will not accept a booking built on that expectation.

Which areas near Raikot do you cover?+

All of them, since lessons are online. Families in Raikot town, along the Ludhiana and Jagraon roads, and in Jagraon, Kila Raipur, Dakha, Sudhar, Halwara and the surrounding villages are covered alike. Location influences how we plan timings around buses, fog and farm seasons, but it does not limit which tutor we can offer.

Is IB or IGCSE better if we are thinking of Canada?+

Neither is better in itself, since both are widely accepted. The IB Diploma spreads six subjects and a core over two years and suits students who like breadth. IGCSE is a two-year secondary course that usually leads to A Levels or the IB Diploma. The right pick depends on your child's strengths and the specific universities, so speak with schools and admissions offices before deciding.

Do you teach Punjabi and Hindi alongside the IB subjects?+

We support Punjabi and Hindi as an IB language or an IGCSE first or second language, with sessions on reading, composition, grammar and the oral where relevant. Availability varies by language and level, so mention it in your first message and we will say honestly whether we have someone suitable before you commit to anything.

Do you serve other towns in Punjab as well?+

Yes. The same online model runs for families in Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Amritsar and other Punjab towns, drawing on one pool of tutors. Because everything is online, a Raikot student can work with a tutor who also teaches children in the city where their school stands, which helps when a move to that school is being planned.

How do I start a free trial lesson?+

Message +91 7439 368 115 on WhatsApp or write to support@ibgram.com with your child's programme, subject, level and school. We reply with a short tutor list and a trial time. The trial costs nothing, there is no obligation to continue, and we put rates in writing before any booking is final.

What if the tutor does not suit my child?+

Tell us and we will arrange another one. Poor fit is usually about teaching style or pace and has little to do with the child's ability, so it is better to change early. The free trial is meant to reveal this before any commitment, and the regular reviews give you a second opportunity to adjust.

Is IB Gram connected to a school or examining body?+

No. IB Gram is independent and has no affiliation with the International Baccalaureate, Cambridge University Press and Assessment, Pearson Edexcel or any school. Names on this page are given only to describe what exists near Raikot. We do not promise grades or admissions, because results depend on the student's work and the school's own assessment.
