IB & IGCSE in Moga

Moga families and the international curriculum: a route that often leads overseas

Moga sits on the highway between Ferozepur and Ludhiana, and it has long been a district where young people look beyond the town, with many households having relatives in Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia or the Gulf. For a child in that kind of family, an IB or IGCSE education can feel like the natural first step, since universities abroad recognise both routes without further explanation.

Finding lessons is the difficult part. There are good CBSE and Punjab board schools in town, along with a long tradition of coaching for state and national exams, but very few options for a specialist in IB Chemistry HL or IGCSE Extended Mathematics. IB Gram fills that gap with private online home tuition: a tutor who teaches your syllabus, a live lesson at your own table, and a free trial first.

One honest point up front. Our tutors do not travel to Moga. In-person home tuition is limited to Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR, so all teaching for Moga students is delivered online, one to one.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to Moga school years

Moga parents usually start by asking which of the IB programmes fits their child's age, and whether IGCSE is the easier way in. We work by programme and stage first, then by subject.

PYPNursery to Class 5, ages 3-11

Primary Years Programme

An inquiry-led primary course where children explore themes through units and finish with an Exhibition. Tutors keep sessions short and concrete: reading fluency, mental arithmetic and learning to explain an idea aloud.

A Punjabi-speaking child entering an English-medium PYP classroom often needs a gentle bridge, so early sessions mix storytelling and conversation with number work.

MYPClass 6-10, ages 11-16

Middle Years Programme

Criteria-marked subjects across eight groups with a Personal Project at the end. Tutoring focuses on reading assessment criteria, writing up investigations and using subject vocabulary precisely.

For a student who spent primary years in a PSEB classroom, the shift from textbook answers to argued reasoning is the biggest adjustment, and MYP tutoring targets exactly that.

DPClass 11-12, ages 16-19

Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three at HL and three at SL, plus TOK, the Extended Essay and CAS. Tutors handle content depth, paper technique and pacing across two years without touching the student's coursework.

Many Moga students taking the DP do so at a boarding school elsewhere, and weekly online sessions give continuity that hostel life rarely does.

CPClass 11-12, ages 16-19

Career-related Programme

A combination of a few Diploma courses with vocational study and a reflective project. Tutors support the academic courses and the English demands of the core.

Few schools in north-west Punjab run the CP, so we confirm a student's school offers it before we match a tutor.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around Moga school timetables

All Moga lessons are online. There is no in-person format here because tutors do not travel to the city, and the three options below are three ways of organising the same live teaching.

Weekly online private lessons

A steady one-to-one class at home on a laptop, once or twice a week. It suits students who need regular reinforcement of what the school is teaching and want the tutor to know their working style over time.

  • Fixed weekly slot, moved with notice
  • Worked examples and homework set for the week
  • Progress note sent after every class

Pre-exam revision sprints

Closer-spaced sessions in the run-up to mocks or the May and November papers, aimed at topics the student still finds shaky. Useful for boarders who come home for holidays and need a concentrated push online.

  • Two to five weeks of denser sessions
  • Timed questions and mark-scheme review
  • Booked around Lohri, Diwali and school holidays

Year-long plan with sprints built in

Ongoing tuition plus extra sprints before exam sessions, for a DP or IGCSE candidate who wants one tutor throughout. Continuity matters most in Mathematics and the sciences, where gaps compound.

  • Same tutor across the course
  • Sprints added when the calendar tightens
  • Rates in writing before booking

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Moga

01

Why do so many Moga families ask about IB and IGCSE?

  • Families with relatives abroad who plan overseas study
  • Business and farming households sending children to boarding schools
  • Parents who want inquiry-based learning beyond rote
  • Students shifting from a Punjab board school to an international curriculum

Ask around Moga and you will find that a large share of families have a connection overseas, whether a cousin in Brampton, an uncle in Melbourne or a sibling in London. That link shapes education choices. When a child is likely to study abroad, parents want a qualification that an overseas admissions office reads easily, and IB and IGCSE do that.

The other group is business and farming families with the means to send children to boarding schools, often in the Chandigarh-Mohali area, Dehradun or Shimla. Those students live away, and weekly lessons on a laptop keep them connected to a tutor who knows their syllabus.

Finally, there are families who simply want more than the textbook. They like the idea of a subject being taught for understanding, with essay writing, practical work and independent inquiry. That is an honest reason, and tutoring can support it, though it cannot replace a school that actually runs the programme.

Whichever describes your family, the practical need is the same: a specialist for one subject at one level, available in the evening, without travel.

02

Punjab board, CBSE, IGCSE or IB: which suits a Moga student?

Punjab School Education Board and CBSE are the mainstream choices in Moga, and both prepare students well for state and national entrance tests. If your child's aim is a medical or engineering seat through NEET or JEE, staying on CBSE is often the most direct path, and we would say so honestly.

IGCSE and IB make more sense when the target is overseas study, a school move to a boarding campus, or a broader subject mix. IGCSE is a two-year course ending in Class 10, and the IB Diploma is a two-year programme in Classes 11 and 12.

The teaching differs too. Board exams reward speed and recall, while IB and IGCSE questions ask students to explain, evaluate and apply. A student who has done well in PSEB or CBSE papers can find their first international-style paper unexpectedly difficult, which is why an early start with a tutor helps.

The table compares the four for a typical Moga household.

03

How much does IB or IGCSE tuition cost in Moga?

  • Level and subject decide the base rate
  • Frequency changes the monthly total
  • No travel or venue costs
  • Written quote before you book

There is no single price for IB or IGCSE tuition in Moga, and we do not publish one. The fee for a tutor depends on the subject, the level, the number of weekly sessions and the tutor's experience, and it is quoted to you in writing before you agree to start.

A few things drive the figure. A tutor for Physics, Chemistry or Mathematics at Higher Level is more specialised than one for a language and costs more. Diploma courses need more preparation than MYP or IGCSE Core. Two sessions a week cost more each month than one, though the per-session rate can be lower.

Local parents often compare with coaching batches. A batch is cheaper per hour because the fee is shared, but the teacher cannot slow down for one student. Private online lessons cost more per hour and give attention to one child, which matters when the syllabus is unfamiliar.

Since tutors teach online, there is no charge for travel or a rented room. The first lesson is free, and if the match is wrong we replace the tutor at no cost to you.

04

Online home tuition, coaching classes or a local tutor: how do they compare?

Moga has a strong culture of coaching classes and school-teacher tuition, but those are built for board syllabi and entrance exams. An IB or IGCSE student needs someone who has taught the specific course and its assessment style.

Online home tuition gives that in a form that fits a Punjab household: the lesson happens at home, so a parent can check on a child, and nothing is lost in travel. It is not a recorded course. A live tutor sees the working, corrects mistakes as they occur and sets targeted practice.

We are clear that the tutors do not visit Moga. If you have seen home tuition advertised in person elsewhere, that service runs only in Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR. In Moga the lesson is a live online session.

The table below sets out the four common options.

Foggy winters, Lohri and harvests: planning the Moga school year

Exam sessions come from the boards, but the year in Moga is set by Punjab's seasons. IB papers are sat in May and November, IGCSE in May and June and October and November, and Edexcel adds January. A student aiming for May starts the last stage of revision in February.

Winter brings fog, sometimes thick enough to close schools for days in December and January. An online lesson is unaffected, which is one reason to keep a regular slot through those weeks. Lohri and Baisakhi bring short breaks, and Diwali in the autumn is a longer one.

The agricultural year matters in a district like this. The wheat harvest in April and the paddy season in October can occupy a family's attention, and in October the smoke and air quality can also affect students' health. We move lessons or reduce hours when asked.

Summer holidays from late May through June are a good stretch for catch-up work. The table gives a working plan for the year.

06

Where can a Moga student go after IB or IGCSE?

  • Canada, UK, Australia and Europe read IB and A Level scores directly
  • AIU equivalence for many Indian universities
  • CUET-UG for central and other participating universities
  • JEE Main and NEET need a separate eligibility check

For most Moga families the answer starts with Canada, the UK or Australia, and both IB and A Level results are read directly by universities in those countries. Grades in Mathematics and the sciences carry weight for engineering and health-related degrees.

Indian universities are also a real option. The Association of Indian Universities issues equivalence for international qualifications, which many colleges request, and CUET-UG accepts students with recognised equivalents. Entrance to NEET or JEE Main has separate subject requirements that you must check on the current notification.

Within Punjab, students often look at Chandigarh, Delhi and Ludhiana institutions, and some look toward Delhi University or private universities that accept IB scores. Advice from the school counsellor is essential, since rules change each year.

Tutors help with subject knowledge and paper technique. Our admissions test-prep page covers aptitude tests that many universities require. We do not promise a seat, and we do not write applications or statements.

07

What does an IB Mathematics or Science tutor actually do?

In Mathematics, the tutor first confirms whether your child follows Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation, then works through the syllabus in the order the school is teaching. Topics such as calculus, vectors and probability are reviewed with worked examples and then practised with past-paper questions.

In Physics and Chemistry, the tutor concentrates on unit fluency, multi-step calculations and the language of the command terms. In Biology, the focus turns to reading graphs, describing processes and building short structured answers.

The internal assessment in every science and in Mathematics is the student's own investigation. A tutor may talk about what makes a strong question and how uncertainty is discussed, but does not write, edit or mark the work.

Students who arrive from CBSE often have excellent content knowledge and lose marks on explanation rather than facts. Learning to show reasoning is usually the fastest improvement.

08

IGCSE Extended, Core and the subjects Moga students choose

IGCSE gives students the chance to select subjects individually, and to sit Core or Extended papers where the subject offers both. Core is capped at a lower grade band and suits students who will not go on to advanced study in that subject.

Anyone who may move to the IB Diploma or A Level in Mathematics or a science should take Extended. It is a demanding step, but it keeps options open, and moving down later is easier than moving up.

Typical Moga combinations include Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, English and either Punjabi or Hindi, with Economics, Accounting or Computer Science added by students with commerce or technology plans. A tutor can help decide how many subjects are realistic alongside school and activities.

The syllabus differs between Cambridge and Edexcel in paper layout and wording, so we always ask which board your school uses before matching.

Where we tutor

Corners of Moga and the roads that shape a study routine

Moga is a compact city where a journey to school seldom takes long, so lesson timing is set by school bus timings, evening power and the family's working day. These are the areas and approaches we hear about most.

Ferozepur Road

The western side of the city along the highway; students bussed to schools outside town tend to return late, so lessons start after six.

Ludhiana Road and NH-95

The eastern approach, with families whose parents commute to Ludhiana for work, leaving after-school hours quieter.

Kotkapura Road

Residential streets on the southern side, where many children attend private day schools and share a home with grandparents.

Dharamkot Road

The north-western edge, mixing older neighbourhoods with newer colonies of business families.

Bagha Purana Road

A southern stretch used by students from nearby villages, who often study once the school bus has dropped them home.

Old city and main bazaar

The traditional trading heart, where shopkeeper families arrange study around the afternoon lull.

Dayanand college neighbourhood

The area around Dayanand Mathra Dass College, home to teachers and college staff who value structured, syllabus-focused study.

Dev Samaj school area

The heritage school precinct near the city centre, with many long-settled families and a strong reading culture.

Railway station side

Families connected with rail and transport work, with variable shifts, who benefit from flexible evening lessons.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Moga

Moga itself

We could not confirm a school in Moga that is authorised for the IB or that teaches Cambridge or Edexcel IGCSE. Local schooling is dominated by CBSE and the Punjab board, and we prefer not to name a school we cannot verify.

    Nearby: Ludhiana

About an hour or a little more by road, Ludhiana has a small number of Cambridge-affiliated campuses, and some Moga families consider a move or hostel there.

    • Britannica International School
    • Harvest International School

    Nearby: Chandigarh and Mohali

The tri-city area is where many Punjab families go for wider IB and IGCSE choice, including the Diploma, usually as boarders.

    • Oakridge International School, Mohali

IB Gram is an independent tutoring service with no affiliation to the IB, Cambridge, Pearson or any school on this page. Schools appear only as context for where students study, never as recommendations or partners.

    Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Moga: your questions answered

Are IB and IGCSE tutors available in Moga?+

Yes, online. IB Gram tutors teach Moga students live and one to one from elsewhere in India, in IST, so nobody has to travel. Each tutor covers a specific subject at a stated level, such as IB Chemistry HL or IGCSE Extended Mathematics. Send us the syllabus and school and we shortlist a tutor for a free trial.

Do you offer home tuition in Moga for IB or IGCSE?+

We offer online home tuition, meaning a private live lesson taken at your own home on a laptop. Tutors do not visit homes in Moga, since in-person home tuition is available only in Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR. The teaching itself is still one to one, and a parent can join the free trial lesson to see how it runs.

Is there an IB or IGCSE school in Moga?+

We could not confirm one, so we name none. Local schooling is mostly CBSE and the Punjab board. Families wanting an international curriculum usually look at Ludhiana, where a few Cambridge campuses exist, or at the Chandigarh-Mohali area, where IB Diploma schools are found. Always check a school's current authorisation directly with the school or the exam body.

What is the fee for IB or IGCSE tuition in Moga?+

The fee depends on the tutor, subject, level and number of sessions, and we do not publish a rate card. You get a written quote before booking, with the schedule alongside it. Higher Level science and Mathematics usually cost more than languages. Being online, there are no travel or venue charges, and the first lesson is free.

Will the tutor write my child's IA or Extended Essay?+

No. Tutors coach only and never write internal assessments, Extended Essays, TOK essays or coursework. They can explain the criteria, discuss how to choose a research question and give general feedback on approach. The work itself must be the student's, and this protects the child from an academic misconduct ruling.

My child studies CBSE in Moga. Can we still use IB or IGCSE tutoring?+

Yes, if your child is preparing to move to an IB or IGCSE school or wants to study the international syllabus alongside. The cleanest moves are Class 9 for IGCSE and Class 11 for the IB Diploma. A tutor can prepare a student for criterion-based marking and extended answers before the switch, easing the first term.

Is IB recognised for Indian university admission?+

Generally yes, subject to paperwork. Many universities ask for an Association of Indian Universities equivalence certificate. CUET-UG accepts recognised equivalents, while JEE Main and NEET have their own subject and eligibility conditions, which change. Check each notification before choosing subjects, and ask your school counsellor about current rules for the year your child applies.

Which exam sessions do your tutors prepare students for?+

IB May and November sessions, Cambridge IGCSE in May and June and October and November, and Pearson Edexcel in January, May and June and October and November. Tell us the target session and we plan backwards. A revision block starting six to eight weeks before the first paper is usually comfortable.

How does the free trial work?+

It is a live online lesson of about half an hour to forty-five minutes with a tutor who teaches your child's syllabus. Your child tackles a real topic, the tutor observes how they think, and you see the teaching style. You then get a short note and can continue or stop. There is no charge and no commitment.

What if foggy weather or power cuts interrupt a lesson?+

Fog does not affect online lessons, but power or network failures can. Keep a phone hotspot and a charged laptop as backup. If a session is lost to a fault on your side, we reschedule it with reasonable notice. Winter fog closing schools is actually a good time to keep a steady weekly slot going.

Can my child study Punjabi or Hindi as an IB or IGCSE subject?+

Yes. We can find tutors for IB Hindi and Punjabi options where the school offers them, and for IGCSE second-language Hindi and Punjabi. Many Moga students find these subjects a comfortable strength that lifts their overall score. Tell us the programme and the exact syllabus, and we match a tutor accordingly.

My child boards at school outside Punjab. Can they still take lessons?+

Yes. Online lessons work from any place with a stable connection, so a student at a boarding school or on holiday at home in Moga can keep the same tutor. Timings are set in IST around hostel rules and study hours. Many boarders use extra sessions during the holidays to catch up before exams.

How do I pick between Mathematics AA and AI?+

Choose according to the degree your child wants. AA suits engineering, physics, computing and economics, while AI suits commerce, biology, psychology and the social sciences. HL in either is demanding. A tutor can review your child's strengths and recommend HL or SL, though the final subject choice is made with the school.

What if the tutor does not suit my child?+

Tell us and we will change the tutor. Some students prefer a patient explainer and others a brisk exam coach, and neither preference is wrong. We check in after the trial and again after a few weeks, and the next tutor is chosen using what you told us about what worked and what did not.

How can I contact IB Gram from Moga?+

Message +91 7439 368 115 on WhatsApp or email ibgram24@gmail.com with your child's programme, subject, level and school. We reply with a tutor suggestion and a trial time. The contact page on this site also works. Enquiring and attending the trial cost nothing.
