IB & IGCSE in Nabha

A princely capital and a factory town, with no international school of its own

Nabha was the capital of a princely state before Independence and is now a city in Patiala district, with a municipal council, a railway station on the Bathinda to Rajpura line and a reputation as a manufacturing centre for combine harvesters. If you are searching for home tuition in Nabha for the IB or IGCSE, you will notice quickly that we cannot confirm any school in the city teaching either. Children study under the Punjab board or CBSE.

The families who ask about an international syllabus are few but purposeful. Factory owners and engineers with overseas customers, doctors working at Patiala's hospitals and living in Nabha, and Malwa families with relatives in Canada or Australia are the typical callers. Some want a route to a foreign degree. Others want a child to learn to argue a case, not only recall it.

Since nobody teaches the syllabus locally, the tutor is usually the teacher. That means planning a year, setting homework, marking it and explaining every mark.

We do not send tutors to Nabha houses; in-person home tuition runs only in Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR. IB Gram is independent of the IB, Cambridge, Pearson Edexcel and any school, and our tutors never write Internal Assessments, Extended Essays, TOK essays or coursework.

At a glance

  • No IB or IGCSE school confirmed in Nabha
  • Patiala, 25 km away, has the nearest university campuses
  • Online lessons only; tutors do not visit homes in this city
  • Free trial lesson, a note after each class, tutor change on request
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to Nabha school years

In Nabha each programme is met from a distance. A cousin studies the Diploma in Mohali, a parent's business brings the family to Europe for a year, or a child returns from boarding. Here is how each stage turns up in our conversations.

PYPClass 1-5, ages 6-11

IB Primary Years Programme

Children learn through inquiry units tied to big themes and finish with a self-directed Exhibition. A tutor strengthens reading, basic number work and the ability to ask a researchable question.

PYP help in Nabha usually serves a child who has come home from a foreign primary school and whose parents want the method to continue.

MYPClass 6-10, ages 11-16

IB Middle Years Programme

Assessment across eight subject groups uses criteria, and a Personal Project finishes MYP 5. Students often grasp the science yet lose marks for unclear explanation.

For a Nabha student from a Punjabi-medium or Hindi-medium school, the largest step is written English analysis, which tutors build in small daily tasks.

DPClass 11-12, ages 16-19

IB Diploma Programme

Three HL and three SL subjects, with the Extended Essay, TOK and CAS. The exam session is May, and a November session exists for certain candidates.

Nabha Diploma students typically board in Mohali or further away, or study as private learners with a tutor. A weekly online lesson links home to whichever route the family chooses.

CPClass 11-12, ages 16-19

IB Career-related Programme

A pathway combining DP courses with a career-related study and a reflective project.

Almost no CP enquiries come from Nabha. When one does, tutoring concentrates on the DP courses that the pathway includes.

Tutoring formats built around Nabha school timetables

Nabha offers one format, live video, but the way families use it varies with how much teaching the student needs.

One subject, once a week

A standing weekly lesson in the subject a student finds hardest, for those whose school or hostel already teaches the course.

  • Same evening each week
  • Homework marked between lessons
  • Short note emailed after

Whole-course teaching

Two or three lessons weekly when the tutor is the main teacher, as for a private candidate.

  • Term plan shared early
  • Past papers added gradually
  • Monthly overview for parents

Break-time intensives

Daily sessions across a winter or summer break for a student who is home for a short time.

  • One to two weeks
  • Timed papers with marking
  • A short list to carry back

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Nabha

01

Does Nabha have IB or IGCSE schools, and who studies the syllabus anyway?

  • Punjab board and CBSE are the local norm
  • Factory, medical and diaspora families make up the audience
  • Private candidacy and later transfer are the usual routes
  • We list only schools we can confirm

As far as we can verify, Nabha has no school teaching the IB or Cambridge or Edexcel IGCSE. Its schools follow the Punjab board and CBSE, with a few private English-medium institutions. We would rather say that than copy a list of school names that belong to other cities.

The demand that exists comes from a handful of household types. There are families with factories and export contacts who see the value of a globally understood qualification. There are doctors and lecturers living in Nabha but working in Patiala. There are Malwa families with relatives in Canada and Australia, planning for a child to join them for university.

For each, the practical answer is the same. A tutor teaches the syllabus at home, online, and the student either sits exams as a private candidate or transfers later to a school that teaches the programme.

We check claims before repeating them. If a Nabha school starts teaching the IB or IGCSE, we will verify it and update this page.

02

How do Punjab board, CBSE, IGCSE and IB differ for a Nabha student?

The Punjab board syllabus and CBSE both emphasise textbook knowledge and accuracy, and they feed straight into JEE, NEET and CUET-UG. The IGCSE and IB change the question. They ask students to apply ideas to new situations and to justify choices in sentences.

A Nabha student moving across often finds the writing harder than the content. A chemistry answer that once earned full marks for the correct equation may now need an explanation of why the reaction goes that way.

Think also about where the child wants to end up. Punjabi University, Thapar, Chandigarh colleges and foreign universities treat these qualifications differently, so the route should follow the destination.

The table puts the four routes side by side for a Nabha family.

03

What does IB and IGCSE tuition in Nabha cost and what shapes the rate?

  • Subject and level
  • Sessions per week and their length
  • Tutor experience and examiner background
  • Whether the tutor teaches or revises

There are no listed prices here. The rate depends on the subject and level, the hours per week, and the tutor's background. A tutor who has taught HL Chemistry for years and knows how examiners mark will usually quote differently from one coaching Class 9.

Teaching versus revising is the biggest lever. A student learning a full course from page one takes more of a tutor's time than one who needs exam polish, and families with no local school often settle on two sessions weekly in a core subject.

You receive the rate in writing before you decide anything, the first lesson is free, and there is no long contract. Stopping or changing tutor is always allowed.

We suggest starting with one subject and reviewing after about a month.

04

Online tutor, Patiala coaching class, local home tutor or self-study: which suits Nabha?

Patiala has many coaching institutes and Nabha has its own, mostly aimed at board exams, JEE, NEET and competitive tests. Travelling 25 km each way for a class that does not teach the IB is poor value. Local private tutors are dependable for school subjects, yet few know how IB papers are marked.

Self-study works for a disciplined student with good past papers. The risk is a hidden misunderstanding that survives for months because nobody reads the reasoning.

Online one-to-one lessons remove the road and put a specialist in front of the student. The tutor watches working on a shared page, corrects it there and sends a written note afterwards.

We are clear about limits: tutors do not visit Nabha homes, and good internet is part of the arrangement.

How do harvest seasons, fog and festivals shape the year for Nabha students?

Malwa's agricultural calendar sets the pace. Wheat harvest in April and paddy harvest in October bring long days for farming families, and in the weeks after, smoke from stubble burning can spoil air quality across the region. Indoor online lessons are unaffected.

December and January bring dense fog, which makes early travel risky and slows trains on the Bathinda to Rajpura line. A lesson at home at five in the evening avoids all of it.

Festivals add their own breaks: Lohri in January, Baisakhi in April, Diwali in autumn and Gurpurab in November. Many families also travel to relatives abroad in winter or summer, so lessons need to pause and restart easily.

International exams overlay all this, with IB papers in May, a November session for some, and IGCSE series in May-June and October-November.

06

Where can a Nabha student go after the IB or IGCSE?

  • Patiala institutions 25 km away
  • Chandigarh and Mohali within a couple of hours
  • AIU equivalence and CUET-UG for Indian routes
  • Canada, the UK and Australia abroad

Nabha students live close to a good deal of higher education. Patiala offers Punjabi University, Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology, the Government Medical College and the Netaji Subhas National Institute of Sports, and Rajpura has Chitkara University. Chandigarh and Mohali add Panjab University and several private universities.

For Indian entry, the Association of Indian Universities issues IB Diploma equivalence, and CUET-UG accepts IB students where course rules fit. Medicine and engineering entrance rules change often, so read the latest notices.

Overseas, Nabha families usually think of Canada, the UK and Australia, with the US and Germany less often. Predicted IB points or IGCSE plus A Level results feed applications.

We tutor the subjects behind those applications and do not write statements or promise offers.

07

How are IB Maths AA, AI and the sciences taught online?

IB Maths has two courses. Analysis and Approaches leans on algebra and calculus and suits future engineers, while Applications and Interpretation builds on data and technology for business or social science paths. The choice should follow the intended degree.

In a live lesson the tutor and student share a digital page and write in turn, so every step is visible. Calculator and spreadsheet screens are shared for statistics.

Science sessions follow a pattern: explanation, exam-style question, mark-scheme reading, then a harder question. Practical work uses data sets and video, because the Internal Assessment must be planned, run and written by the student alone.

A short diagnostic paper begins each course, so the first weeks aim at the real gaps.

08

Should a Nabha student choose IGCSE Core or Extended, and which subjects?

IGCSE Mathematics and some sciences offer Core and Extended tiers. Core caps the top grade, Extended reaches the full range, and a student aiming for IB Maths HL or A Level Maths should take Extended.

Subject choices follow goals. Future engineers take Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, often with Design and Technology or Computer Science. Medical aspirants add Biology, and commerce-minded students pick Economics and Business Studies.

Cambridge and Edexcel differ in layout and emphasis, so the board is settled first. Private candidates need an exam centre, and the nearest choices are in larger cities such as Chandigarh, Mohali or Delhi.

Students in Nabha who plan to move to a tricity school in Class 11 often start IGCSE-style work in Class 9 or 10, since it builds the writing habits the Diploma later demands.

Tutors explain timelines; families handle registration with the centre.

09

What can a factory or farm family in Nabha expect from an online tutor?

Business and farm households share a pattern: the working day is long, the parents may not have studied an international syllabus, and the child is the first to try it. That is a normal starting point, and tutors expect it.

We therefore write to parents as well as to students. After each lesson a short note says what was covered, which questions went wrong and what the child should practise before the next session, in plain language that a parent can follow without knowing the subject.

Timing is flexible. Some families prefer Sunday mornings when the factory is closed, others choose late evenings after the shop shuts. The tutor adapts, within reason, and keeps the slot steady once agreed.

Parents often ask whether a child who has never seen an international paper can catch up. Usually yes, given a steady routine. The first month is spent on vocabulary, command words and the layout of the papers, and only then on timed questions, so the child meets the exam style gradually and not all at once.

If the family business is busy at harvest or at year end, lessons can move or pause for a week without penalty, so the routine survives busy seasons instead of breaking under them.

Where we tutor

Nabha's lanes, roads and neighbours

Nabha is a compact city with old lanes, newer colonies and factory areas, ringed by farming villages and neighbouring towns. These notes describe how different parts affect lesson timing and connectivity.

Old city and bazaar lanes

The dense historic core around the former palace area. Evenings are noisy, so a closed room and headphones help live lessons.

Railway station side

A practical area for families with members who commute by train towards Patiala or Bathinda; sessions are set after the evening trains.

Patiala road

The main corridor towards Patiala, where many professionals working in the university city live.

Bhadson road

A route to a nearby town, with a mix of housing and small workshops; connectivity is fair but worth testing.

Sangrur road side

The western approach, where farming and trading families live and harvest time shapes the evening.

Industrial area

Home to households linked to harvester and machinery manufacturing; shift patterns can decide lesson timing.

Rajpura

A neighbouring town on the same railway line, with its own professional families, where online lessons work the same way.

Patiala city

About 25 km away, home to Punjabi University, Thapar Institute and the medical college; some Nabha students board or travel there.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Nabha

Nabha and the surrounding villages

We cannot confirm an IB or Cambridge/Edexcel school in Nabha, so families rely on Punjab board or CBSE schools plus an online tutor for the international syllabus.

    Nearby: Mohali

The tricity has the region's widest range of international schools, a long drive east; families consider it for boarding or relocation.

    • Oakridge International School, Mohali

    Nearby: Ludhiana

Another option for families in the Malwa belt, a few hours away by road or rail.

    • Britannica International School
    • Harvest International School

These schools appear only to show where confirmed international options sit near Nabha. IB Gram is independent, has no link to any of them, to the IB, to Cambridge or to Pearson, and naming a school is not a recommendation.

    Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Nabha: your questions answered

Is there an IB or IGCSE school in Nabha?+

We cannot confirm one. Nabha's schools follow the Punjab board or CBSE. The nearest international options we have checked are in the Mohali area and Ludhiana, so families usually combine local schooling with an online tutor, or plan boarding elsewhere before Class 11.

Do tutors come to our house in Nabha?+

No. Tutors do not visit homes in Nabha, since in-person home tuition runs only in Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR. Lessons in Nabha are private and live, but online, with your child at a laptop at home and the tutor teaching on video.

Can I arrange private home tuition for IB in Nabha?+

You can arrange it online. One student and one tutor meet at a fixed hour, write on a shared page and receive a written note afterwards. It offers the attention of a home tutor without anyone crossing town, which matters when no specialist lives nearby.

What will IB or IGCSE tuition cost in Nabha?+

Prices are not published because the rate turns on subject, level, tutor experience and weekly hours. You get the rate in writing before booking, and the first lesson is free. Learning a whole course costs more tutor time than revising one, so the total varies.

My child studies in Punjabi. Is the IB realistic?+

It is demanding but realistic with time. Subject ideas travel across languages, and the main work is English writing, which tutors build in short daily tasks. We cannot promise Punjabi-medium lessons, but we explain slowly and check understanding often.

Does fog or harvest smoke stop online lessons?+

No. Fog and smoke affect roads and air, not a laptop session at home. We suggest afternoon or evening slots in December and January, and tutors rearrange a class if power or connectivity is lost or a child is unwell.

Can my child sit IGCSE papers from Nabha?+

Usually as a private candidate through a centre in a larger city such as Chandigarh, Mohali or Delhi. Places and deadlines differ, so ask early. Tutors teach the course and past papers, while the family registers directly with the centre.

Will a tutor write my child's Internal Assessment?+

No. Tutors coach, ask questions and comment on structure, but the Internal Assessment, Extended Essay, TOK essay and coursework must be the student's own work. Our tutors keep to that boundary without exception, for every student and every subject.

Which IB Maths course should a Nabha student pick?+

Choose by destination. Analysis and Approaches suits engineering and pure science; Applications and Interpretation suits business, economics and social science. Check the target course's entry rules, and use a short tutor diagnostic to test whether the chosen level is realistic.

When are the IB and IGCSE exams?+

IB Diploma exams are held in May, with a November session for some candidates. IGCSE offers a May-June series and an October-November series. The school or exam centre confirms your child's entry, and we plan the revision calendar backwards from it.

What happens in the trial lesson?+

It is a full lesson on a real topic, with no fee and no commitment. The tutor teaches, asks questions and emails a short note. If the fit is wrong, we offer another tutor, and the trial still costs you nothing.

Can you help younger students in PYP or MYP?+

Yes. For PYP, tutors help with reading, number work and the Exhibition. For MYP, they help with criteria-based writing and the Personal Project. It is coaching, so the child does the thinking and the tutor guides, in shorter sessions for younger learners.

What if the internet is weak in our area?+

Keep a phone hotspot as backup and test a short call first. If a session drops, the tutor reschedules within the week. In outer villages around Nabha, two short lessons sometimes work better than one long one.

Can Nabha IB students apply to Indian universities?+

Generally yes. The Association of Indian Universities gives IB Diploma equivalence and CUET-UG accepts IB students in many cases. Professional courses have their own rules, so read each institution's current notice. Tutors teach subjects and do not advise on admissions.

    How do I begin?+

Write to support@ibgram.com or message +91 7439 368 115 on WhatsApp with the board, subject, level and exam session. We reply with a tutor profile and a rate in writing, then fix a free trial at a time that fits your family's day.
