IB and IGCSE Tutors and Online Home Tuition in Nawanshahr

Private tuition at home in Nawanshahr, for a student on an IB or IGCSE syllabus, is a live one-to-one video lesson at your own desk: IB Gram tutors do not visit homes in Punjab, where home-visit tuition runs only in Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR. The district headquarters of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar has no IB or Cambridge school we could confirm, so the tutor is often the only teacher who has sat with that exact syllabus. Try one free lesson first.

  • Tutors matched to the exact IB subject and level, or the IGCSE code and tier
  • Live one-to-one lessons over video; Nawanshahr has no home-visit service
  • One free lesson before any fee is agreed
  • No tie to any school, exam board or the IB itself

IB & IGCSE in Nawanshahr

Why Nawanshahr families keep asking about IB and IGCSE

Nawanshahr is the headquarters of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar district, which took that name in September 2008 after an announcement made at Khatkar Kalan, the freedom fighter's ancestral village about eight kilometres from town. Most residents still say Nawanshahr, while most online forms say SBS Nagar, and that is why a tuition search can land on a Ludhiana colony of the same name. This page is about the Doaba town and the villages around it.

Families here have long kept one foot abroad. A large number of properties in Banga, thirteen kilometres along NH 344A, belong to non-resident Indians, and remittances are a visible part of the district's economy. That history explains most of the IB and IGCSE interest we expect from Nawanshahr: a child who may apply to a university in Canada, the UK or Australia, a grandchild sent back for a few school years, or parents who want a syllabus an overseas admissions office already understands.

What the town lacks, as far as we could check, is a school authorised for IB or for Cambridge or Edexcel IGCSE. A national school directory's IB search for Nawanshahr returns nothing, and we have not named a local school on a guess. The nearest options we could verify are in Ludhiana, Mohali and Chandigarh, each a long drive away, so a student usually boards elsewhere, follows an online school, or studies IGCSE privately while enrolled at a PSEB or CBSE school in town.

That is the space IB and IGCSE tutors in Nawanshahr fill: the subject specialist a student would otherwise go without. Every lesson is live, one to one and online, taught by a tutor based in India on Indian Standard Time. Nobody visits your house, because IB Gram's home-visit tuition runs only in Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR. IB Gram is independent of every school and board named here, and its tutors coach without ever writing an Internal Assessment, Extended Essay or coursework piece.

At a glance

  • No IB or Cambridge school inside Nawanshahr could be confirmed
  • Ties to relatives abroad drive most enquiries, not local school supply
  • Lessons are live and online, with no home visits in this district

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to Nawanshahr school years

Each programme below is taught over video to students in Nawanshahr and the villages around it. Because no local school runs these courses that we could confirm, the notes describe how district families tend to use each stage: as a bridge around a move, as the main teaching of a subject, or as preparation alongside a PSEB or CBSE timetable.

PYPNursery to Class 5, ages 3-12

IB Primary Years Programme

Six transdisciplinary themes and units of inquiry stand in for a subject timetable, and the stage ends with a student-led Exhibition. There are no external exams, so progress shows in how a child reads, questions and presents.

Enquiries from Nawanshahr tend to come from families back from the UK, Canada or the Gulf who want a younger child to keep the habits of a PYP classroom while settling into a local school.

MYPClass 6 to Class 10, ages 11-16

IB Middle Years Programme

Eight subject groups are assessed against published criteria instead of a single percentage, and the Personal Project closes the programme in its final year.

For a Nawanshahr student, MYP help is usually a bridge, smoothing a move between a PSEB or CBSE classroom and an international curriculum elsewhere, or the way back.

DPClass 11 to Class 12, ages 16-19

IB Diploma Programme

Three Higher Level and three Standard Level subjects, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS, assessed mainly through exams each May or November.

Diploma students tied to Nawanshahr are nearly always enrolled somewhere else, at a boarding school or with an online provider, so sessions gather around the weeks they are home and around Internal Assessment deadlines.

CPClass 11 to Class 12, ages 16-19

IB Career-related Programme

Two or more Diploma courses are paired with a career-related study, a reflective project and a strand on personal and professional skills.

Questions about CP are rare from the district; when they arrive, a family is usually weighing a practical, business-minded route against the full Diploma.

Subject coverage

IB subjects we tutor

Since almost none of our Nawanshahr students sit in a Diploma classroom in town, tutoring here tends to mean full teaching of a subject, not a top-up. We confirm the exact course, level and exam session with each family before proposing a tutor.

IGCSE coverage

IGCSE subjects we tutor

Families in Nawanshahr choose between Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel more often on family connections than on academic grounds, and some follow the board used by a relative's child abroad. We work from the syllabus code, tier and exam series, because a Cambridge Core paper and an Edexcel Higher paper are different experiences.

Algorithms, pseudocode and the theory papers, with programming practice between lessons.

IGCSE English as a Second Language 0510

Core / Extended

Reading, writing and speaking practice that also helps students heading for IELTS or a visa interview.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around Nawanshahr school timetables

Lessons run one way for Nawanshahr students: live, one to one, over video. Tutors do not visit homes in the town, because home visits run only in Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR. What differs between the three formats below is how often they meet and what they are for.

A weekly lesson at a fixed hour

The same tutor, the same evening slot, following the syllabus your child is actually registered for. It suits PYP and MYP support, IGCSE subjects and the first year of the Diploma.

  • One tutor and one slot, kept steady week to week
  • A short written note after each lesson
  • Timed for after the school bus or the train home
  • Begins with a free lesson

An exam-season push

Extra lessons stacked onto the weekly slot in the weeks before an IGCSE series, Diploma mocks or the May papers, given over mostly to marked past papers and the topics that lose the most marks.

  • Runs on top of the weekly lesson for a set number of weeks
  • Past papers marked against the real mark scheme
  • Fits a boarding student's weeks at home
  • Ends when the exams do

Check-ins on assessed work

Short, focused sessions around one piece of graded work, such as an Internal Assessment, Extended Essay, Personal Project or IGCSE coursework, where the tutor questions and the student writes.

  • Helps narrow a question the student can actually answer
  • Feedback weighed against the published criteria
  • Every sentence handed in stays the student's own
  • Booked only when the work needs it

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Nawanshahr

01

Is there an IB or IGCSE school in Nawanshahr, and who is asking for one?

  • No authorised school in Nawanshahr could be confirmed
  • PSEB and CBSE schools make up most of what we found locally
  • Families with relatives abroad, and returnees, generate most enquiries
  • The tutor is often the main teacher of the syllabus, not a supplement

Not one we can confirm. A national school directory's IB search for Nawanshahr returns no schools, and we could not match any school in the town to an IB or Cambridge authorisation, so none is named on this page. Local schooling runs on the Punjab School Education Board and CBSE, and that fact shapes everything else described below.

So who is asking? Mostly four kinds of household: families with a parent or sibling working in Canada, the UK or the Gulf; returnees, children who spent years in a GCSE or IB classroom abroad and now sit in a Nawanshahr one; officers and professionals posted to the district headquarters, who move on after a few years; and families who simply want a qualification that reads the same in any country.

What they do about the gap differs. Some send a teenager to board in Mohali, Chandigarh or another state for the Diploma years, some enrol with an online school, and others keep the child at a PSEB or CBSE school in town and prepare for IGCSE privately, sitting the papers through an authorised exam centre. Each route leaves a student with a syllabus, a set of exam dates and nobody nearby who has taught either. That is where tutoring fits: for an IB Physics or IGCSE Additional Mathematics student here, the tutor is quite often the whole course, which is why we ask for the exam board, syllabus code, tier and session before suggesting anyone.

02

PSEB, CBSE, IGCSE or IB: what really changes for a Nawanshahr student?

The skill being marked changes. Give a Class 10 student in Nawanshahr and a Year 11 student at a Cambridge school the same photosynthesis question and the gap shows: the board answer is usually the textbook paragraph in textbook order, while the Cambridge paper hands over a graph of light intensity against rate and asks why the curve flattens. Same topic, different skill, and only the second is what an IGCSE paper pays for.

Command words carry the difference. State and name ask for a fact, explain wants a reason with a link in it, and evaluate or discuss want both sides and a judgement. PSEB and CBSE papers use some of these words too, but IGCSE and IB mark schemes are built around them, and a tutor who has marked against those schemes can show a student in one session what a to-what-extent question is worth.

Language adds a Punjab layer. Many students talk in Punjabi, joke in Hindi and write in English for exams, and every IGCSE and IB paper is in English, so sentence-level clarity decides marks in Physics, Economics and History, not only in the English paper.

None of this closes a door in India. The Association of Indian Universities treats the IB Diploma as equivalent to Class 12 and IGCSE as equivalent to Class 10, and students from every board enter through CUET-UG, JEE or NEET once eligibility is met.

03

What does IB or IGCSE tutoring cost in Nawanshahr, and what sets the rate?

IB Gram does not publish prices, because an honest figure depends on five things: the subject, the level, how specialised the tutor has to be, how often you meet and how close the exams are. The rate for your child is given in writing before the trial lesson, and no long contract sits behind it. That applies to every family that asks about IB and IGCSE tutors in Nawanshahr.

Subject and level come first. A tutor who has taught IB Physics HL or Maths AA HL on the current syllabus is harder to find than one for IGCSE Core subjects, and the rate reflects that scarcity. A Class 9 student laying foundations is in a different place from a Diploma student three months before the May papers.

Frequency and timing shape the total too. One lesson a week across a year is a different commitment from three a week during a six-week revision push, and a boarding student who is home only for the winter and summer breaks may need blocks of lessons instead of a fixed weekly slot.

Online tuition also removes costs that never appear in a fee: no petrol, no hour on NH 344A, no waiting for the last bus home. Whatever you decide, ask any provider what happens in a session, who marks the papers and how progress is reported. We send a short written note after each lesson and review progress every few weeks.

04

Online home tuition, coaching centre, local tutor or self-study: which suits a Nawanshahr student?

For a student on an IB or IGCSE syllabus, a tutor who has taught the exact course, working live and one to one, usually fits most closely, because the other options in town were built for different exams. That is why families who look for IB and IGCSE tutors in Nawanshahr end up with online lessons.

Coaching around town leans toward IELTS, PTE and visa-file preparation, or toward PSEB and CBSE board and entrance exams. Good batches exist, but they move at one speed on one syllabus and cannot follow a student on IGCSE Chemistry when the classmate in the next seat is on IB Economics.

A general home tutor, whether a schoolteacher or a recent graduate, can be excellent at the subject itself. The shortfall tends to be in syllabus rules: how a Cambridge alternative-to-practical question earns its marks, what an IB Paper 2 extended response is really asking for, how to choose between Core and Extended.

Self-study with past papers works for a disciplined student, and Nawanshahr has plenty of those. It is weakest where an outside reader matters: Internal Assessment drafts, the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge arguments. A weekly tutor covers those gaps without replacing the student's own effort.

05

How Nawanshahr's harvest, weather and festivals fit around exam dates

International exams keep their own clock. IB Diploma papers fall in May, with a November session; Cambridge IGCSE's main series are May to June and October to November; Edexcel's are January, May to June and November for selected subjects. None follows a PSEB or CBSE term, so a revision plan for Nawanshahr is worked backwards from exam dates, and a child sitting both a board and an IGCSE feels the squeeze in February and March.

Then comes the district's own calendar. The wheat harvest in April and May overlaps with the Diploma papers and the May to June series, which matters in farming families where a teenager may be wanted at home. June brings the long school break and peak heat, and paddy transplanting pushes electricity demand up, so lessons sometimes move to early morning or late evening.

July to September is monsoon, when heavy rain has closed schools across Punjab in recent years and swelled the Sutlej and its drains. October and November are the festival and smoke months: Dussehra, Diwali and Gurpurab fall around the autumn series, and paddy-stubble smoke thickens the air. December and January add fog and Lohri, just as mocks and Edexcel's January series meet school closures and delayed trains.

Where can an IB or IGCSE result from Nawanshahr lead?

Almost anywhere. For study in India, a Diploma student from Nawanshahr can register for CUET-UG and apply to central, state and private universities, including Lovely Professional University at Phagwara, roughly an hour down NH 344A. JEE Main and NEET carry their own subject and eligibility rules, so an IB student should check the current official notices before choosing Higher and Standard Levels.

Study abroad is often what families here are really weighing. UK offers usually rest on predicted and final Diploma points, with subject minimums and sometimes an admissions test; Canadian and Australian universities read Diploma scores or a Class 12 result alongside English-language test scores; American applications add SAT or ACT results and essays. Relatives abroad can describe life there, but only a counsellor and a subject tutor can say which choices keep a door open.

Closer to home, the roads lead to Jalandhar, Phagwara, Ludhiana, Rupnagar and Mohali: Dr B R Ambedkar National Institute of Technology at Jalandhar, IIT Ropar, Punjab Agricultural University and the medical colleges at Ludhiana, and Chandigarh's universities. A student weighing an Indian entrance exam against an overseas offer needs Higher Level choices that work for both.

IB Maths AA or AI, and the sciences, for a student far from a Diploma school

Picking between Analysis and Approaches and Applications and Interpretation is a real decision, and with no local subject teacher the tutor often helps make it. AA leans on algebra, proof and calculus, and suits future engineers, physicists and economists; AI leans on statistics, modelling and technology, and suits students who think in data or head toward business, social science or design. Ask which course the target degree asks for, not which sounds harder.

Both courses include an Exploration, an independent mathematical investigation worth a fifth of the grade, and the usual mistake is choosing the topic in the last month. A student should settle on a question they can model or measure during Class 11 and gather the data early. IB and IGCSE tutors in Nawanshahr can coach that planning without touching the write-up.

In the sciences, students must design a scientific investigation and handle data, not only recall facts. Without easy lab access, that means a question that works with school equipment, household materials, simulations or open data where the rules allow. The tutor coaches the design; the student collects the evidence and writes the report.

At Standard Level, technique usually beats extra content: command terms, quick use of the data booklet and concise extended responses. At Higher Level the unfamiliar problem separates grades, and comfort with it builds over months, not in a revision weekend.

08

IGCSE Core or Extended, Cambridge or Edexcel: what should a Nawanshahr family decide?

Decide the tier from real papers, not a hunch. In Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics, Core caps the grade at C, while Extended runs from A* to E; Edexcel's Foundation and Higher tiers work similarly. A student who may later take IB Maths AA, or a science at A Level, should usually be entered for Extended or Higher, and a timed paper from each tier shows whether that is realistic.

Between Cambridge and Edexcel the choice is often a family one. Households with UK ties sometimes lean toward Edexcel because its style sits close to GCSE in England, while Cambridge is recognised widely across India, Canada, Australia and the UK. Settle on a board before study begins.

Additional Mathematics makes the biggest difference later: a student who has met functions, trigonometric identities and basic calculus in Class 10 finds IB Maths AA far less of a shock in Class 11. English deserves equal weight, since it feeds IELTS scores, visa paperwork and every written paper.

IGCSE sciences add a practical strand, tested through a practical exam or the Alternative to Practical paper, so we practise the paper style until reading a table of results feels familiar.

Where we tutor

Nawanshahr and the Doaba corridor around it

Nobody here needs a tutor to cross town, so locality is about context: which school a child attends, how far the school day stretches, and whether the household is also planning an IELTS test or a visa file. Here is how we read the town and the neighbourhood around it.

Lalliyan Mohalla

A named mohalla inside the town proper. Lessons can start soon after the school day, and the planning questions are a quiet corner and steady Wi-Fi.

Vaidan Mohalla

Another of the town's named mohallas, a short ride from most schools in town, which leaves the evening free for a full-length lesson.

Around Nawanshahr Doaba Junction

The railway side of town, where the station links Jalandhar, Rahon and Jaijon. A student returning from a school or college elsewhere may get home late, so lessons follow the journey.

District offices and courts

The administrative side of the headquarters town. Officer families posted here are used to transfers, when a tutor who can follow a syllabus between cities is useful.

Banga road (NH 344A towards Phagwara)

The highway out of town towards Banga and Phagwara. Jalandhar and Ludhiana are the natural next stops, so families here tend to look at their schools first.

Balachaur road (NH 344A towards Rupnagar)

The highway south through Balachaur to Rupnagar, the road that leads on to Mohali and Chandigarh for families considering boarding or relocation.

Rahon

An old town about 7 km away on the Jalandhar to Jaijon railway line, and the place Nawanshahr's founders are said to have come from.

Banga

About 13 km along NH 344A, in a belt where many properties belong to non-resident Indians; we expect enquiries from returning and soon-to-leave families.

Khatkar Kalan

The village of Bhagat Singh's family, about 8 km from Nawanshahr, with the memorial and museum. Students reach town schools by road, so lessons follow that day.

Villages of the Aur and Saroya blocks

Two of the district's five blocks, largely villages, where a live lesson at home removes a long trip to town and back.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Nawanshahr

Inside Nawanshahr: nothing confirmed

A national school directory lists no IB school for Nawanshahr, and we could not tie any local school to an IB or Cambridge authorisation. Local schooling is Punjab board and CBSE, so this list stays empty rather than guess.

    Nearby: Ludhiana

The closest cluster of international-curriculum options we could confirm for this part of the Doaba, reached by a long drive along NH 344A and the Phagwara road. Some families consider these for boarding or relocation.

    • Britannica International School
    • Harvest International School

    Nearby: Mohali and Chandigarh

About ninety kilometres from Nawanshahr by road, the tricity has IB and Cambridge schools, among them Oakridge International School in Mohali and two IB-listed schools in Chandigarh's Sector 26. A daily commute from Nawanshahr is unrealistic; boarding or relocation is the usual route.

    • Oakridge International School, Mohali
    • Firststeps School, Sector 26
    • Strawberry Fields High School, Sector 26

Away from Punjab: boarding or fully online

For the Diploma years, some families look at boarding schools in other states or at a complete online IB school, with tutoring covering the gaps around school holidays and assessed-work deadlines.

IB Gram is an independent tutoring service. The schools named below are outside Nawanshahr and appear only to describe where students from the district might study; none has any link with IB Gram, and this page is not an endorsement by, or a partnership with, any of them, the International Baccalaureate, Cambridge International Education or Pearson Edexcel.

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Nawanshahr: your questions answered

Where can I find IB and IGCSE tutors in Nawanshahr?+

IB Gram matches Nawanshahr families with tutors across India who teach the exact subject and level over live video, since there is no local IB or IGCSE school we could confirm. Most students we expect from the district follow a boarding school's course, an online school or an independent IGCSE plan. We build the match around that set-up and offer a free lesson before any fee is discussed.

Is there an IB or Cambridge IGCSE school in Nawanshahr?+

We could not confirm one. A national school directory's IB search for Nawanshahr came back empty, and no school in the town could be matched to an IB or Cambridge authorisation, so this page names none. Families who want an international curriculum usually look to Ludhiana, Mohali or Chandigarh, or to boarding schools in other states, and use tutoring to fill the gaps.

Will a tutor visit our house in Nawanshahr?+

No. IB Gram's home-visit tuition runs only in Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR, so every Nawanshahr lesson is live, one to one and online. Your child sits at the family desk with a laptop and a notebook, and the tutor shares a screen to work through problems, papers and drafts together. We explain this before anything is booked.

How much does IB or IGCSE tuition cost in Nawanshahr?+

It depends on the subject, the level, how specialised the tutor must be, how often you meet and how near the exams are, and we do not publish a flat rate. The figure for your child's match is given in writing before the trial lesson, and no long contract follows. Online lessons also save the fuel and travel time that a commute to Jalandhar or Ludhiana quietly adds.

Can my child try a lesson before we pay anything?+

Yes. Every match opens with a free lesson on a real topic from your child's own syllabus, taken online with no obligation to continue. Afterwards the tutor sketches a short plan for the coming weeks. You can then carry on, ask for adjustments or try a different tutor, and nothing is locked in either way.

My child is on PSEB in Nawanshahr. Is it realistic to move to IGCSE?+

It is realistic, and the start of Class 9 is the ideal moment. The content gap is usually smaller than the skills gap: IGCSE rewards applied, explained answers where a board paper often rewards recall. A tutor can introduce command words, graph reading and extended writing gradually, and the exams can be taken privately through an authorised centre, each of which sets its own entry deadlines.

Which Diploma subjects can you cover for a student who boards away from Nawanshahr?+

The usual range: Maths AA and AI, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Economics, Business Management, English A, Hindi B, Computer Science, Psychology, Geography and History, plus guidance on Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay. Lessons tend to cluster in the weeks a student is home and around Internal Assessment deadlines. Tell us the exact subjects and levels and we will confirm a tutor before the free lesson.

Will a tutor write any part of an IA, Extended Essay or coursework?+

No, and any such request is turned down. Tutors help a student choose a workable question, read the marking criteria properly and respond to a draft with structured feedback, but the thinking and the words stay the student's. Submitting work that is not the student's own breaks IB and Cambridge rules and can put the whole qualification at risk.

Do online lessons work if power or broadband is unreliable?+

They can, with a little planning. Keep a phone hotspot as a backup, charge the laptop before the lesson and agree that a dropped session is rescheduled, not lost. Tutors can also share notes and worked solutions in writing, so a short outage does not undo a week. In the paddy season, when power demand peaks across Punjab, we can move lessons to early-morning or late-evening slots.

What if the tutor turns out to be the wrong fit?+

Tell us and we will find another match. We check in every few weeks and re-match whenever a teaching style, pace or personality is not working, rather than expecting a child to push on. With no long contract, pausing or stopping is always possible, and the free first lesson exists precisely to catch a poor fit early.

When should we start IGCSE or Diploma tutoring?+

For IGCSE, Class 9 leaves the most time to lay foundations before the Core or Extended decision. For the Diploma, the first term of Class 11 sets the pace for two years, so an early start pays off, especially in Maths and the sciences. Help closer to an exam series still moves results, but it works most reliably when the student already has a steady routine.

Do you teach students in Rahon, Banga, Balachaur and the villages around Nawanshahr?+

Yes. Lessons are online, so a student in Rahon, Banga, Balachaur, Khatkar Kalan or a village in the Aur and Saroya blocks gets the same service as one in the town. The only local question is connection quality, which we check in the first lesson. Nobody needs to travel to Nawanshahr, Jalandhar or Ludhiana to find a tutor for an IB or IGCSE subject.

Our child is coming back from Canada or the UK. Can you help them settle into a Nawanshahr school?+

Yes. The usual problem is a mismatch in syllabus order and exam style, not ability, so we map what the child has already covered against what the new board expects. That may mean catching up on Punjabi or Hindi, filling a Class 9 topic or preparing for a PSEB or CBSE paper. Send the last school report and the syllabus code, and we start there.

Do you also coach for IELTS, JEE or NEET?+

No, we do not run IELTS, JEE or NEET coaching. Our tutors teach IB and IGCSE subjects and will point out where a subject choice serves both an Indian entrance exam and an overseas application. Coaching for those exams is widely available, and we fit subject tutoring around whichever deadline is closer, so the two do not collide.

Is IB Gram connected to any school or to the IB, Cambridge or Pearson?+

No. IB Gram is an independent tutoring service with no ownership, management or partnership link to any school, the International Baccalaureate, Cambridge International Education or Pearson Edexcel. Any school named on this page appears only to show where students from the district might study, and does not imply that the school recommends, or is connected with, IB Gram.
