IB Physics Tutor in Lower Parel, Mumbai

The commonest reason families want an IB physics tutor in Lower Parel is a report saying the student understands the concepts and cannot write an answer that scores. That is a reasoning and notation problem, not a knowledge problem. IB Gram arranges Physics home tuition with International Baccalaureate specialists across this part of Mumbai.

Algebraic fluency tested separately from physics understanding in session one
Scientific investigation supervision history recorded per tutor, not claimed
Command terms and uncertainty work treated as taught skills, not afterthoughts
Written diagnostic after the first visit, written review at four weeks

How an IB physics tutor in Lower Parel is matched to the real problem

Physics requests divide into four problems that look identical from the outside. The student cannot rearrange an equation, so every multi-step question dies at the algebra. The student understands the physics and cannot express it, so explain questions receive descriptions. The student has never been taught to draw a free-body diagram, so forces questions are guesswork. Or the student is fine on paper and losing marks in the internally assessed investigation. Four different engagements, four different tutors, and only a piece of marked work tells us which. An IB physics home tutor in Lower Parel sent against the wrong problem wastes a term politely.

1. Send the most recent marked physics paper or lab report, teacher annotations included. 2. Tell us the level, Higher or Standard, and the Diploma year, or the Middle Years Programme year. 3. Give two evening windows with the earliest honest start, because this district does not begin before seven. 4. We shortlist two tutors who teach physics at that level and work inside the island city. 5. The first visit is a diagnostic that tests algebra and physics separately, and is written up for you.

Step five is worth insisting on. A physics diagnostic that only asks physics questions cannot tell you whether the student's difficulty is physical or mathematical, and the two require completely different terms of work. So the tutor runs a short set of pure rearrangement and substitution tasks with no physics in them, then a set of conceptual questions with the numbers removed. A student who is strong on the second and weak on the first does not need more physics teaching, which is almost always the opposite of what the family has concluded.

The shortlist is two names, each carrying the level taught, how recently, and whether the tutor has supervised a scientific investigation to submission. Higher Level physics is one of the thinner specialisms in South Mumbai, thinner than mathematics and comparable to Higher Level chemistry, so sometimes the honest answer is one name plus an online alternative. We will say which it is rather than padding the list with people who teach a bit of everything, because physics is unusually unforgiving of a generalist.

  • Four distinct problems hide behind the same enquiry wording
  • Marked lab report or paper with annotations beats any description
  • Diagnostic tests pure algebra separately from physics reasoning
  • Higher Level physics is a thin specialism in South Mumbai
  • Two names with level, recency and investigation supervision history

Higher Level or Standard Level physics: what actually differs?

In the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (DP), physics exists at Higher Level (HL) and Standard Level (SL), and the difference is not simply more chapters. Higher Level adds further content on top of the shared core and, more importantly, asks questions that chain several ideas together, so a student must carry an argument across three or four steps without being prompted at each one. Standard Level questions are more often single-idea with a calculation attached. A student who can do every Standard Level question and cannot start a chained one is showing the exact gap Higher Level exposes.

That makes the level decision a judgement about reasoning stamina rather than about content appetite. It is usually taken before DP1 begins, on the basis of Year 11 marks, which measure something different. The symptom of a wrong placement is distinctive and appears in the first term: the student copes with worked examples, follows the teacher comfortably, and freezes on any question whose first line she has to invent. If that is your child, raise it with the physics teacher early rather than adding hours, because more of the same teaching does not build the missing skill.

Physics assessment combines written papers with an internally assessed scientific investigation, and the papers test different things: short responses and data analysis in one place, extended reasoning in another. The exact paper structure, their names and what each permits have changed within recent syllabus cycles, so read the current subject guide with your child's coordinator rather than relying on an older summary or a sibling's experience. What has not changed is that data analysis and command terms carry weight that students systematically under-prepare for.

Below the Diploma Programme, Middle Years Programme (MYP) sciences are marked against criteria rather than percentages, with separate credit for knowing and understanding, inquiring and designing, processing and evaluating, and reflecting on the impacts of science. A child who understands physics and scores poorly is nearly always losing the inquiring and designing or the processing and evaluating criterion. This page covers the International Baccalaureate only; Cambridge and Edexcel physics belongs to a sibling page on this site.

  • Higher Level chains several ideas per question; Standard Level often does not
  • Level choice is really a judgement about reasoning stamina
  • A student who freezes on unfamiliar first lines is showing the gap
  • Read the current subject guide for paper structure, not an old summary
  • MYP science losses sit in inquiring and designing or in evaluating

The physics topics where marks disappear

Any IB physics home tutor in Lower Parel usually starts the term with mechanics, where the recurring failure is the free-body diagram. Students attempt inclined planes, pulleys, circular motion and connected bodies without drawing the forces, then guess which component to resolve. The fix is non-negotiable sketching before any algebra, with every force labelled and its source named, and it converts a guessing game into a procedure. Sign conventions in kinematics are the sibling problem: a student who does not fix a positive direction before starting will get the right magnitude and the wrong sign and lose the mark.

Fields and electricity fail for a different reason. Gravitational, electric and magnetic field questions reward a student who can say what the field does to a charge or a mass before touching a formula, and most students reach for the equation sheet first. Circuits fail on accounting: students apply formulas without tracking which quantity is shared and which divides, so a series and parallel combination becomes arithmetic guesswork. Teaching the habit of writing down what is constant across a circuit element, before calculating anything, removes most of these losses within a few sessions.

Then there is the language layer, which costs more marks than any single topic. Describe, explain, outline, deduce, justify and compare are instructions with different mark schemes behind them. A student who answers every one of them with a description will plateau well below her understanding, and no amount of extra content teaching moves her. Alongside that sit units, significant figures and the physical reasonableness of an answer. A student who writes a speed of nine thousand metres per second for a falling ball and does not blink is losing marks that have nothing to do with physics knowledge.

Data handling is the systematically neglected area. Reading a graph properly, linearising a relationship to test it, propagating uncertainties, and distinguishing a random from a systematic error are all examinable skills and almost none of them appear in school homework in proportion to their weight. Physics home classes in Lower Parel that spend every session on topic revision and never on a data question are leaving accessible marks on the table. Two sessions on graph work and uncertainty typically return more than two sessions on any topic.

  • No free-body diagram is the commonest mechanics failure
  • Fix a positive direction before any kinematics calculation
  • Say what a field does before reaching for the equation sheet
  • Command terms carry different mark schemes and must be taught
  • Graph linearisation and uncertainty are under-practised and examinable

Where can a physics tutor travel to from Lower Parel?

Lower Parel, Parel, Worli and Prabhadevi, dependably, with parts of Dadar, Mahalaxmi and Byculla depending on the street and the junction between you. Physics narrows the pool further than mathematics does, because the specialism is thinner, so the practical consequence is that you may be choosing between a nearby good tutor and a slightly further excellent one. South Mumbai is dense and short-distance but slow, so a few kilometres from Worli towards Colaba can still consume most of the evening peak once the Peddar Road and Haji Ali signals are counted. Tutors are matched inside the island rather than brought down from the suburbs.

The neighbouring pockets each behave differently for a weekly slot. Parel sits immediately east and pairs easily, letting a tutor hold consecutive slots across the two areas without crossing a major junction. Worli runs west towards the sea face, where the journey hinges on whether Annie Besant Road is moving. Prabhadevi runs north along the same spine and is structurally a twin of this area: towers, one gate, a lift busy at eight. An IB private tutor in Lower Parel who already teaches physics in any of those three is effectively local to your building.

Because Higher Level physics is thin here, the sensible trade differs from the one you would make in a well-staffed subject. In mathematics, take the reliable nearby tutor. In Higher Level physics, it is often worth taking the specialist and bending the timetable, including accepting the later block or a weekend morning, because the gap between a physics specialist and a general science tutor is wide at that level. Parents searching for IB tutors near me in Lower Parel sometimes optimise entirely for distance and end up with a tutor who is comfortable with Standard Level and out of depth above it.

Transport decides who can commit to the early block. Lower Parel station, which many residents and some signage still call Elphinstone Road, puts this area on the Western Line between Churchgate, Grant Road and Mumbai Central. The Harbour Line through CSMT, Dockyard and Sewri brings tutors from the island's eastern edge. Metro Line 3 along the Cuffe Parade to BKC alignment and the Coastal Road have both widened the pool, which matters more in a thin subject than a deep one. A train-and-walk tutor is the safer bet in July.

  • Dependable radius: Lower Parel, Parel, Worli, Prabhadevi, parts of Dadar
  • Higher Level physics is thin, so the specialist may be worth the travel
  • The gap between a physics specialist and a general science tutor is wide
  • Lower Parel station, formerly Elphinstone Road, sits on the Western Line
  • Metro Line 3 and the Coastal Road matter more in a thin subject

Lab access, school reports and the Mumbai physics squeeze

Physics has a constraint no other subject shares: part of the work needs equipment a tutor cannot bring. Children from these towers attend a small set of schools, with JBCN International School, Parel nearest for many families and Aditya Birla World Academy at Tardeo drawing from the same catchment, while others travel to Bombay International School at Babulnath, Cathedral and John Connon School in Fort or the American School of Bombay in Bandra Kurla Complex. IB Gram is an independent platform and not affiliated with any of them, and that includes having no access to their laboratories. A home tutor works on design, data and analysis; the practical work stays at school.

This shapes what good home tuition in Mumbai looks like for physics. The tutor cannot run the experiment, so she works on the parts that actually carry the marks: whether the research question is answerable, whether the variables are controlled, whether the data range is wide enough to show a relationship, whether uncertainties were estimated sensibly, and whether the analysis says anything. Students usually believe the marks are in the apparatus and the neatness. They are in the thinking before and after, which is precisely the part a tutor can reach.

The calendar then determines what is feasible. A physics engagement starting early in DP1 can rebuild the reasoning and notation habits that pay off in every topic, and can shape the investigation while the question is still open. One starting in the second term of DP1 can still fix the investigation if the data has not been collected. One starting in DP2 is examination work: command terms, data questions, past papers under time, and deciding which questions to abandon. All useful, decreasingly transformative.

School workload caps what any tutor can add, and this district squeezes the evening. A DP1 physics student with service commitments, a sport and several long-horizon components has perhaps two usable evenings a week, and nothing here starts before seven. A tutor who sets her own weekly problem sheet on top of school work will be resented inside a month unless it replaces something. The arrangement that lasts uses the school's own problems in the session and adds ten minutes of daily rearrangement drill, which is where the real bottleneck usually is.

  • A home tutor cannot run experiments, so she works on design and analysis
  • The marks sit in the thinking before and after the apparatus
  • JBCN International School, Parel and Aditya Birla World Academy are nearest
  • DP1 starts can still shape the investigation question; DP2 starts cannot
  • IB Gram has no affiliation with, or lab access at, any school named

Physics home tuition in Mumbai or online: which suits which problem?

In-person suits the reasoning problems, which are most of them. A tutor beside a student can insist on the free-body diagram being drawn before anything else, watch whether the sign convention is fixed, see the hesitation at the rearrangement step, and interrupt the moment the student reaches for the formula sheet instead of thinking. An IB home tutor in Lower Parel working at the dining table with the school's own problem set open catches all of that in real time. For Middle Years Programme and DP1 students the physical presence matters most, because the habits being built are physical ones.

Online suits the analytical problems genuinely well, and this is where physics differs from mathematics. Data analysis, graph linearisation, uncertainty work and investigation supervision all involve a spreadsheet, a graph and a document, and those are shared more easily on a screen than on paper. An IB online tutor in Lower Parel reviewing a student's data set alongside her, both looking at the same plot, is not a compromise. It is arguably better than two people hunched over a printout, and it also solves the scarcity problem at Higher Level.

So the arrangement we recommend most often for physics is deliberately split by problem type rather than by convenience. One in-person session a week for mechanics, fields, diagrams and written reasoning. One online session, often shorter, for data work and for the investigation once it exists. That split also halves travel exposure, which in this district is the main reason a tutor quietly becomes unreliable, and it means a scarce Higher Level specialist living elsewhere in Mumbai can still carry half the engagement.

One arrangement to avoid: a shared session across Higher and Standard Level. The additional Higher Level material is not an extension the Standard Level student can usefully overhear, and the chained question style is the whole point of the level, so a shared session either bores one student or loses the other. Two students at the same level in the same Diploma year can share well, which makes efficient use of a scarce 7pm slot in a tower, provided the tutor manages the pace difference openly.

  • In-person for diagrams, sign conventions and written reasoning habits
  • Online is genuinely strong for data analysis and investigation review
  • Split the week by problem type rather than by convenience
  • A scarce Higher Level specialist can carry the online half
  • Higher and Standard Level students cannot usefully share a session

What should you check before a physics tutor starts?

Ask five things, and notice that only one is about physics knowledge. Which level have you taught, and in which academic year? Have you supervised a scientific investigation through to submission, and what makes a research question unworkable? How will you test whether my son's algebra is the bottleneck rather than the physics? How do you teach the difference between describe and explain? And where do you travel from, and what do you teach immediately before our slot? A candidate who answers the second and fourth well is a teacher. One who only answers the first is a physicist.

On our side we verify identity against a government photo document and see the qualification rather than take it on trust, then record level and subject teaching history with the years attached. The practical test is a marking exercise: an anonymised student answer to an explain question, sound in content and written as a description, with the candidate asked what she would say. A strong answer names the command term, shows what the mark scheme wanted, and gives the student a sentence structure to use next time. A weak answer adds more physics.

Two responses should end an introduction call. A tutor who promises a specific grade or quotes a percentage of students who improved, since neither is verifiable and no honest physicist would claim it. And a tutor who suggests a relationship with your child's school, access to papers or knowledge of what will be examined. Be wary of both. What a good tutor offers instead is a first target and a way for you to judge, in four weeks, whether the target was the right one.

After the match, watch for two physics-specific failure modes. A tutor who works the problem on his own paper while the student watches, which looks like teaching and builds nothing, because the skill being taught is starting a question alone. And a tutor who treats the investigation as a formatting exercise, polishing presentation while leaving the research question and the uncertainty analysis untouched. Both are common. Tell us and we will either speak to the tutor or shortlist again, whichever you would rather.

  • Ask what makes an investigation research question unworkable
  • Ask how the tutor teaches describe against explain
  • Marking test on a described answer to an explain question
  • A promised grade or a quoted success rate ends the call
  • A tutor polishing formatting is not supervising an investigation

The scientific investigation: design decisions that decide the mark

Every Diploma Programme physics student produces an internally assessed scientific investigation, and the marks are largely determined before any data is collected. The reason is simple: a question that cannot produce a measurable relationship cannot be analysed, and an analysis that cannot be performed cannot be evaluated. Students arrive at the write-up stage with data that will not support a graph, discover it has no gradient worth interpreting, and then try to rescue the submission with presentation. Nothing in the write-up can repair a design decision taken six weeks earlier.

Four design decisions carry most of the weight. Choosing one independent variable and genuinely controlling the rest, rather than listing controls that were never enforced. Choosing a range wide enough that the relationship is visible above the uncertainty, which is the single most common fatal error. Taking enough repeats to say something defensible about random error rather than one reading per setting. And knowing, before starting, what graph will be plotted and whether it should be linearised, because a student who does not know her final plot cannot know what data to collect.

An IB physics home tutor in Lower Parel working on this properly front-loads the effort. She makes the student state the physical relationship she expects and the equation behind it. She makes her sketch the intended graph with axes labelled before any apparatus is touched. She asks what the largest source of uncertainty will be and how it will be estimated, which usually changes the method. And she insists the analysis be attempted on a handful of trial readings before the full data set is collected, because a trial run reveals a doomed design in an afternoon rather than a month.

The district's rhythm shapes when this work happens. Lower Parel is offices by day and towers by night: the mills became Kamala Mills and the Phoenix complex, the residential towers grew around them, and parents come up the lift between half past six and half past seven. Tutoring here runs from seven onwards, so a tutor gets two usable slots an evening rather than four, and the practical consequence for investigation work is that the design conversation has to happen in a dedicated session rather than squeezed onto the end of a topic lesson. Towers like Lodha World Towers and Indiabulls Blu hold enough Diploma families that a physics tutor is often already clearing your gate on some evening of the week.

  • The mark is largely fixed before any data is collected
  • Too narrow a range is the most common fatal design error
  • Sketch the intended graph with axes before touching apparatus
  • Run the analysis on trial readings before collecting everything
  • Give investigation design its own session, not the end of a lesson

What four weeks of physics home classes should change

Four weeks with an IB physics home tutor in Lower Parel changes habits, and habits are visible. Diagrams should now appear before algebra, with forces labelled and a positive direction fixed. Answers to explain questions should contain a because, and ideally a chain of two. Units and significant figures should be present without prompting. And your child should be able to say out loud what a particular field or circuit does before reaching for a formula. The tutor, meanwhile, should be able to name the bottleneck precisely, in words like rearrangement or command terms rather than in words like effort.

By one term, around twelve to fourteen sessions, school marks begin to move, and in physics they move in a specific order worth knowing. Presentation and notation marks come back first, within weeks. Data-question marks improve next, because graph and uncertainty skills are teachable quickly. Marks on chained reasoning questions improve last, since that depends on fluency built over months. A student whose working now looks like a physicist's while her total has risen modestly is exactly on track, and reading that as failure is the commonest mistake parents make at week eight.

Across a full examination cycle the honest range is wide. A student whose problem was notation, command terms and data handling can move a long way, because those are the marks nobody was collecting. A student at Higher Level with thin algebraic fluency can improve substantially and still sit a paper that exposes the gap. A tutor cannot reach a level decision taken before anyone had evidence, nor six years of light mathematics practice, in two terms. IB Gram does not guarantee grades, publishes no success rates, and will not predict a score for your child.

What you get instead is documentation and a clean exit. A written diagnostic after the first visit naming the bottleneck and whether it is physical or mathematical, and a written review at four weeks. If the fit is wrong, message us and we shortlist again with no notice period. In physics the usual cause of replacement is depth rather than temperament: a tutor comfortable at Standard Level finding Higher Level chained questions beyond her, which is not a scandal and is much cheaper to discover in week four than in DP2.

  • Week four: diagrams before algebra, a because in every explanation
  • The bottleneck should be named as rearrangement or command terms
  • Notation marks return first, data marks next, chained reasoning last
  • Transformed working with a modest total is on track, not failure
  • No guaranteed grades, no success rates, no predicted scores

Arranging IB physics home tuition in Lower Parel, Mumbai

Send four things. The most recent marked physics paper or lab report with the teacher's annotations intact, because it tells us in minutes what a paragraph of description cannot. The level and the Diploma or Middle Years Programme year. Two evening windows with the earliest honest start time, allowing for the lift at seven. And your building name with the wing, so we can check whether a physics tutor on the panel already teaches on one of your evenings, which in a thin subject is the difference between starting next week and starting next month.

The first visit is a diagnostic in two parts and contains no teaching. The tutor gives your child a short set of pure rearrangement tasks with no physics attached, then a set of conceptual questions with the numbers stripped out, then reads the marked work line by line with her. The point is to separate the mathematics from the physics before anyone decides what the term is for. You get a short written note afterwards naming the bottleneck and what the first month targets.

On fees we will not print a number. IB tuition fees in Lower Parel depend on the level, on how scarce that specialist is in South Mumbai, on session length and frequency, on whether investigation supervision is part of the engagement, and on whether the tutor is travelling in for one hour or already teaching in your tower that evening. Higher Level physics is among the scarcer requests here. A home tutor for Physics in Mumbai at Standard Level and one carrying a Higher Level investigation are different engagements and will be quoted differently.

A closing note on the word best. Families searching for the best IB tutor in Lower Parel for physics usually mean the person most likely to find their child's actual bottleneck, which is a diagnostic question rather than a ranking one. Send the marked work, ask what makes an investigation question unworkable, ask how describe and explain are taught differently, and be honest about the evening you have. Those four steps matter more than any comparison of credentials, and they take about twenty minutes.

  • Send marked work, level and year, evening windows, building name
  • The first visit separates the mathematics from the physics
  • Fees track level, scarcity, investigation supervision and travel
  • In a thin subject, an existing slot in your tower moves the start date
  • Best means best-matched to a diagnosed bottleneck, not highest ranked
FAQs

Lower Parel tutoring — questions parents ask

My son is good at maths but struggling in physics. Why?+

Usually because physics asks for reasoning in words and he has been rewarded for calculation. Explain questions want a causal chain, ideally with a because in it, and a student who answers them with a description of what happens scores a fraction of the available marks however well he understands the physics. The other common cause is diagrams: forces questions attempted without a labelled free-body sketch become guesswork. Both are habits rather than knowledge, which is why four weeks of insistence usually shows up in the next school test.

Is Higher Level physics the wrong choice for my child?+

Possibly, and the test is reasoning stamina rather than content appetite. Higher Level questions chain several ideas together, so the student must carry an argument across three or four steps unprompted. A student who follows worked examples comfortably and freezes on any question whose first line she has to invent is showing exactly the gap Higher Level exposes. More hours of the same teaching does not build that skill. Raise it with the physics teacher in the first term rather than hoping the second term resolves it.

Can a tutor travel to our building for a weekday physics slot?+

Yes when matched from inside the island city, and it is worth checking carefully because physics specialists are thinner on the ground here than mathematics ones. A tutor based in or already teaching across Lower Parel, Parel, Worli or Prabhadevi will hold a fixed evening through the monsoon. For Higher Level specifically, it can be worth accepting the later block or a weekend morning to get a genuine specialist rather than taking a nearby general science tutor who is comfortable only at Standard Level.

Can a home tutor help with the practical work if there is no lab here?+

Yes, because the marks are not in the apparatus. We have no access to any school laboratory and do not claim any, so practical work stays at school. What a tutor reaches is everything that actually carries credit: whether the research question can produce a measurable relationship, whether one variable is isolated and the others genuinely controlled, whether the range is wide enough to show an effect above the uncertainty, whether there are enough repeats, and whether the analysis says something. Students believe the marks are in neatness. They are in design.

Does online physics tuition work, or is in-person necessary?+

Both, for different parts of the subject, and physics splits more cleanly than most. In-person is better for diagrams, sign conventions, written reasoning and the habit of starting a question alone, because the tutor needs to watch the pen and interrupt early. Online is genuinely strong for data analysis, graph linearisation, uncertainty work and investigation review, since all of that lives in a spreadsheet and a plot that two people can share on a screen. A weekly in-person session plus a shorter online data session is the pattern we recommend most.

Nothing has improved after four weeks. What should we do?+

Message us and we shortlist again, with no notice period. Judge four weeks on habits rather than marks: whether diagrams now appear before algebra, whether explain answers contain a because, whether units and significant figures arrive unprompted, and whether the tutor can name the bottleneck as rearrangement or command terms rather than as effort. If those are missing, the match is wrong. In physics the usual cause is depth, a tutor comfortable at Standard Level out of her range above it, which is cheap to fix early.

Do you cover Parel, Worli and Prabhadevi for physics?+

Yes, those three plus Lower Parel are one matching cluster, though the physics panel inside it is thinner than the mathematics one. Parel sits immediately east and pairs easily for consecutive slots. Worli runs west towards the sea face, where travel depends on Annie Besant Road. Prabhadevi runs north and behaves structurally like this area, with towers, one gate and a busy lift. Parts of Dadar, Mahalaxmi and Byculla come into range street by street, and for Higher Level we will sometimes suggest a hybrid arrangement instead.

Which evening slot works best, and does the time matter for physics?+

The 7pm block, Tuesday to Thursday. This district runs on office hours: parents come up from the Kamala Mills and Phoenix side between half past six and half past seven, so flats become usable at seven and there are two practical blocks, around seven and around half past eight. Physics punishes tiredness more than discussion-based subjects do, because chained reasoning needs sustained attention, and a student at 8.45pm after a full school day tends to follow rather than attempt. Monday loses to assignment deadlines.

Our school is JBCN International School, Parel. Does that matter for physics?+

Much less than level and investigation experience. We are not affiliated with JBCN International School, Parel, Aditya Birla World Academy or any other school, and name them as local context only. For physics the two documents worth handing a tutor in week one are the school's assessment calendar and the teacher's written comment about what is holding the mark down. Those shape a term more usefully than familiarity with the building. The school also controls laboratory access and timing, which the tutor needs to plan investigation work around.

When should investigation work start?+

At the research question, which is months earlier than most families ask. The investigation mark is largely determined before data is collected, because a question that cannot produce a measurable relationship cannot be analysed and an analysis that cannot be performed cannot be evaluated. Useful supervision means stating the expected physical relationship, sketching the intended graph with labelled axes before touching apparatus, identifying the largest source of uncertainty, and running the analysis on a handful of trial readings to expose a doomed design early.

Can one tutor cover physics and maths together?+

Often yes, and it is one of the genuinely good pairings because the technique and reasoning transfer directly. The caution is level. A tutor comfortable at Standard Level in both is common; a tutor genuinely strong at Higher Level in both is rarer and worth testing with a specific question about chained reasoning or about investigation design. Ask which level and which academic year for each subject separately. Physics paired with a language or a humanities subject is a different matter and usually needs two tutors.

How much practice should happen between physics sessions?+

Short and frequent on the bottleneck, plus one proper question set. If rearrangement is the bottleneck, ten minutes a day of pure algebra with no physics in it does more than an hour of topic revision. Alongside that, one set of past questions a week, attempted under something like time pressure and marked against the scheme rather than against the answer. A DP1 student here has perhaps two usable evenings once school work and commitments are counted, so anything a tutor adds should replace something rather than stack on top.
