No log law was needed, only the nerve to substitute. Logarithms come in when a root is untidy: solving 3ˣ = 5 means taking logs, so x = log 5 ÷ log 3. Trigonometric identities. Asked to show that (1 − cos²θ) ÷ (sinθ cosθ) = tanθ, weaker students try identities at random. The disciplined route starts from the messier side and uses one known result: 1 − cos²θ = sin²θ, so the left side becomes sin²θ ÷ (sinθ cosθ), which simplifies to sinθ ÷ cosθ, or tanθ.
