IB & IGCSE in Tilhar

Who looks for IB and IGCSE help in Tilhar, and what they actually get

Tilhar is an old tehsil town in Shahjahanpur district, remembered for the bows it once supplied and still the local centre for farm markets, small traders and government staff. It is not a place with an IB or Cambridge school of its own, and no school here is confirmed to teach either board. That plain fact shapes everything else on this page.

The parents who write in usually belong to one of three groups: families with a child already boarding at an international school in Lucknow, Dehradun or further afield; families thinking of such a move after Class 8 or Class 10; and families with a relative abroad who want their child ready for overseas applications. All three need a teacher who knows the IB and IGCSE mark schemes and can meet the child over video at a fixed hour.

That is what the service does, and only that. No tutor visits a house in Tilhar, because visits are limited to Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR. The lessons here are online, live and private, with a whiteboard for diagrams and the student's notebook held to the camera. Many students say the format feels closer than expected after the second week.

IB Gram is independent of the IB, Cambridge, Pearson Edexcel and every school mentioned here. Tutors coach, explain and set practice; they do not write Internal Assessments, Extended Essays, TOK essays or coursework. A free trial comes first, rates are given in writing, and the tutor can be replaced if the fit is not right.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to Tilhar school years

Four IB programmes cover ages 3 to 19. For a Tilhar child, the programme that matters is the one the next school will run, so the tutor works backwards from that target rather than teaching in general terms.

PYPNursery to Class 5, ages 3-12

IB Primary Years Programme

Children explore themes through questions they help to form, and the programme closes with a group exhibition. Tutoring stays light: confident reading, everyday mathematics and learning to explain a thought aloud.

A Tilhar child who will join a PYP class in Lucknow or Dehradun often speaks Hindi at home, so a few weekly sessions of relaxed spoken English remove a good deal of first-term anxiety.

MYPClass 6-10, ages 11-16

IB Middle Years Programme

Subjects are assessed on four criteria each, and students complete a Personal Project at the end. The difference from a textbook board is that method and explanation earn credit alongside the answer.

UP Board students moving into MYP in Class 7 or Class 9 usually need help writing analysis in science and language, and adjusting to tasks that are spread across the term rather than tested once.

DPClass 11-12, ages 16-19

IB Diploma Programme

Students take three Higher Level and three Standard Level subjects with TOK, the Extended Essay and CAS. The coursework load is heavy, and a steady weekly tutor in the hardest subject protects the rest of the timetable.

From Tilhar, the Diploma is normally studied at a residential school, and Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Economics are the four subjects where families most often ask for outside support.

CPClass 11-12, ages 16-19

IB Career-related Programme

Two or more Diploma courses sit beside a career-related study and a reflective project. It is offered at a small number of Indian schools, so tutoring is aimed at the Diploma subjects inside the pathway.

A Tilhar student on the CP elsewhere gets help with its Diploma subjects, while the reflective project stays entirely the student's own.

Subject coverage

IB subjects we tutor

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around Tilhar school timetables

For Tilhar the choice is between online formats, since no tutor visits a home here. Each suits a different stage, and a family can move from one to another without starting over.

Weekly live lessons with one tutor

The steady routine for a student already studying an IB or IGCSE course elsewhere, including during school holidays at home in Tilhar. The tutor keeps pace with the school's units and fills the gaps between classes.

  • Same tutor, same evening, each week
  • Notebook work corrected live on camera
  • Short written note after every lesson
  • Keeps subjects moving through long holidays

Preparation for a first international school year

Designed for a UP Board or CBSE student whose family has decided on a move. The early lessons build English fluency, written reasoning and the habits of criterion-based marking.

  • Suits Class 7 to Class 10 entrants
  • Focus on English, science writing and reasoning
  • Timed to the admission calendar
  • Re-shaped once the school confirms the course

Marked practice between lessons

A weekly session is paired with a set of questions or a past paper that the tutor marks with comments, which suits subjects where steady practice matters more than extra lecture time.

  • Practice returned with written comments
  • Fits students with limited evening hours
  • Extra live sessions added near exams
  • Reduces the cost of unfocused extra hours

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Tilhar

01

IB and IGCSE schools and the families who ask about them in Tilhar

  • No IB or IGCSE school in Tilhar is confirmed
  • Most families look to Lucknow, Dehradun or another larger city
  • Hindi-medium students can succeed with early English preparation
  • Tutoring continues during holidays back home

A student in Tilhar typically studies at a UP Board, CBSE or ICSE school, and a good number of them are strong ones, with dedicated teachers and a long record of placing pupils in engineering, medical and civil-service preparation. What the town lacks is a school confirmed to run the IB or a Cambridge or Edexcel IGCSE, and it is better to state that than to hint otherwise.

The enquiry usually begins with a particular event: a cousin who did the Diploma in Dehradun, a neighbour whose daughter is applying to a university in Canada, or a parent posted to a bank or government office who expects to move cities. The family then asks how difficult the transition would be and whether a child from a Hindi-medium background can manage an English-medium international course.

The answer is that it can, with preparation. The most common stumbling block is not intelligence or effort but the style of learning: in place of reproducing a chapter, the student must interpret data, argue a point and show working. An early start, even a few months before admission, makes the first term far less stressful.

Families that have already made the move have a different need: a teacher who can explain the school's own course again at home. For them a weekly online tutor fills the spaces between a large school class and the student's particular confusion, and continues through the long holidays spent in Tilhar.

02

UP Board, CBSE, IB or IGCSE: what differs for a Tilhar student?

The UP Board's high school and intermediate examinations reward detailed, textbook-faithful answers, usually written in Hindi or English, and the marking is familiar to teachers and parents alike. CBSE is similar but increasingly tests application. The IB and IGCSE go further: they expect students to evaluate, compare and reason from unfamiliar data.

A Tilhar student therefore faces three adjustments. The first is language, because scientific and analytical vocabulary in English needs deliberate practice. The second is timing, since IB assessment arrives in parts through two years and cannot be crammed in a month. The third is independence: research questions, practical design and personal projects require a student to choose and plan, not wait for a teacher's instruction.

These are manageable when spotted early. A student who has been trained to work accurately and quickly under the UP Board often has an advantage in mathematics and the physical sciences, and diligence in revision is an asset everywhere. A tutor builds on those strengths and works mainly on the rest.

The table sets the boards side by side from a local parent's point of view.

03

How is the cost of IB and IGCSE tuition decided for a Tilhar family?

  • Level, subject, session length and tutor experience set the rate
  • No travel cost because lessons are online
  • Rate confirmed in writing before the trial
  • No long contract; pause or end whenever you want

Cost depends on four things: the programme and level your child is in, the subject, how long each session runs and how experienced the tutor is. IB Diploma Higher Level tutors sit at the upper end because they carry deep subject knowledge and exam experience. A Class 9 IGCSE tutor will usually cost less. You are told the figure in writing before the trial.

Because the lessons are online, there is no fuel, no transport and no time spent on the road. For a family in Tilhar who might otherwise spend hours travelling to Bareilly or Lucknow for one good teacher, that saving is considerable. The money buys teaching, not travel.

Another useful question is how many hours are really needed. A student who is weak in a single unit may need six focused sessions rather than a year-long arrangement, and a tutor who says so is working in the family's interest. The short written note after each lesson makes it easy for a parent to judge progress.

You are not tied to a package. You can pause in the harvest weeks or for a family event, extend before an exam and stop whenever the need is over, and a tutor replacement carries no penalty.

04

Online one-to-one tutor, coaching class or self-study: which works best in Tilhar?

Tilhar and its neighbours have coaching classes, mostly geared to board exams and competitive entrance tests. They are practical and affordable for those purposes, but a class of thirty cannot adjust to the question of why a specific IB Chemistry equilibrium answer earned two marks out of four.

An online tutor can. The session follows the syllabus code and the mark scheme your child will actually face, the student is the only one being taught, and a mistake is corrected in the moment. The limitation is that a screen requires sustained attention, so good tutors keep the student writing, explaining and answering aloud rather than listening passively.

Self-study is essential but rarely enough. Past papers are the most valuable resource in both IB and IGCSE, yet without marking feedback a student can repeat the same error for weeks. Combining a tutor's weekly correction with daily independent practice is usually the most efficient pattern.

The table puts the options in one place.

Fog, festivals and farm seasons: how does the school year feel in Tilhar?

The IB Diploma exams take place in May for most Indian schools, and Cambridge IGCSE runs in May-June and again in October-November. For a student at home in Tilhar in April and May, this means studying through rising heat and occasional power cuts. The simplest precautions are a charged laptop, a mobile hotspot for backup and a fixed evening slot after the day's worst heat.

Winter in the Gangetic plain brings heavy fog from late December to January. Roads slow, school start times change and morning journeys become unreliable, but online lessons carry on. These weeks suit catching up on coursework, mock papers and oral practice. Holi, which Shahjahanpur celebrates on a particularly large scale, and Diwali also remove a few days from the calendar.

Agriculture sets the rhythm for many households around Tilhar. Wheat is harvested in April and sugarcane crushing runs through the cold months, so a student's evenings may be interrupted or a parent may be unavailable to help. The best approach is to choose a dependable slot, keep one backup slot a week and tell the tutor about any planned absences in advance.

The table shows a typical year.

University pathways from Tilhar for IB and IGCSE students

For students who stay in India, the Association of Indian Universities recognises the IB Diploma and Cambridge qualifications as equivalent to Indian Class 12 qualifications for admission, and CUET-UG is the main doorway to central universities for those who want that path. JEE Main and NEET have their own conditions for international-board students, and since these change, the official notices must be checked each year.

Within the region, students look at Lucknow University, Amity University Lucknow, AKTU-affiliated colleges and Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohilkhand University in Bareilly. A student who has done the IB often targets Delhi, Pune or Bengaluru for private universities, or Ashoka and Jindal in Haryana. The Diploma's extended writing and research is frequently valued in admissions to liberal-arts programmes.

Overseas, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and the United States draw most applications, with predicted grades and subject combinations mattering more than anything else. A student with Mathematics HL, Physics and Chemistry typically heads to engineering, while Biology and Chemistry point toward medicine and life sciences in several countries.

A tutor is not a counsellor, but can be candid about which grades a target demands. The trial lesson is a fair moment to ask which subject choices keep doors open, and to get a realistic sense of the effort required.

07

What should I know about IB Mathematics and the sciences before choosing courses?

  • Analysis and Approaches for algebra-heavy careers
  • Applications and Interpretation for data and social science
  • Explaining reasoning is the biggest shift from board maths
  • Internal assessments reward steady, early work

IB Mathematics offers Analysis and Approaches and Applications and Interpretation, each at Standard or Higher Level. The first is algebra-heavy and suits future engineers and mathematicians. The second is more statistical and modelling-oriented and suits economics, business and social science. The choice should be made with a university course in mind, not guesswork.

A Tilhar student with UP Board or CBSE training is usually quick at calculation but less used to writing a justification. IB papers give marks for setting out the reasoning and penalise unstated assumptions. Paper 2 also expects careful calculator use. A tutor spends the first weeks on these habits before moving to new content.

The three sciences follow a common structure of papers, an internal assessment and a collaborative project. They differ in content: Physics leans on mathematics and modelling, Chemistry on quantitative reasoning and organic pathways, Biology on memory, structure and writing. Students sometimes pick Biology expecting less mathematics and are surprised by the data analysis involved.

Whichever combination is chosen, steady weekly work beats last-minute effort. Each IB science internal assessment, for instance, carries a real share of the final grade and is built over months, not days.

08

Core or Extended, separate or combined sciences: how do IGCSE choices work?

IGCSE is flexible. A student typically takes between five and eight subjects and is expected to include English, mathematics and at least one science. The remaining subjects should be chosen to match what comes next, whether that is the Diploma, A Levels or an Indian board in Class 11.

Most subjects offer a Core and an Extended tier. Core limits the top grade to C, while Extended opens the way to A*. A student who is bright but nervous is sometimes placed in Core, and a tutor can check whether the child is ready to attempt Extended with some extra effort. That conversation is worth having early, before the school fixes entries.

The sciences can be taken separately as Physics, Chemistry and Biology or as one combined course. Separate sciences suit a student aiming at medicine, engineering or Diploma sciences, because the content goes further. The combined course is a lighter load and suits a student whose future lies outside science.

For students in Tilhar, Hindi as a second language is an opportunity to secure a strong grade in a language the student already speaks well, while English as a second language builds the written fluency required for every other subject.

Where we tutor

Tilhar and the towns around it that our online tutors serve

Because every lesson runs on video, it makes no difference which side of Tilhar a family lives on. These notes are about how a household's day tends to run, which is what decides the lesson slot.

Tilhar town centre

The busy market core, where shop-owning families often finish late; evening lessons after nine work better than early slots.

Shahjahanpur Road side

Families on the route toward the district headquarters, who compare day travel with a change of school and like a tutor who is available without a commute.

Bareilly direction

Households oriented toward Bareilly for coaching and relatives; online sessions keep the choice of tutor independent of that road.

Nigohi

A nearby town whose students often rely on a single local coaching centre; an online specialist fills gaps in English-medium subjects.

Jalalabad

Another nearby town where families travel to Tilhar or Shahjahanpur for schooling, leaving evenings as the natural study window.

Khudaganj

A smaller settlement with farming households, where harvest weeks change the evening routine and the lesson slot should flex.

Civil-lines style colonies

Government-staff and professional households who may be posted elsewhere next year and therefore like a tutor that moves with the child.

Sugarcane-belt villages

Farm families whose winter calendar is set by crushing-season work; lessons are pinned to a steady hour and rescheduled freely when needed.

Wheat-harvest neighbourhoods

Areas where the April harvest interrupts evenings for a week or two; plan lighter sessions then and make them up afterwards.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Tilhar

Tilhar itself

We found no school in Tilhar that we can confirm for the IB or Cambridge IGCSE. Local options are UP Board, CBSE and ICSE schools, so tutoring is used to prepare for, or keep up with, a school elsewhere.

    Nearby: Lucknow

The state capital is the usual first choice for families wanting an international curriculum, with residential and day options for the senior years. It is a long journey from Tilhar, so most plans involve boarding.

    • Modern School, Lucknow
    • City Montessori School, Cambridge Campus

Nearby: Dehradun and the Doon valley

Dehradun is a traditional boarding destination for families across western Uttar Pradesh, and several of its schools run international programmes. Families usually visit, compare and apply a year ahead.

    • SelaQui International School
    • Unison World School

IB Gram is an independent tutoring service. It has no connection with the IB, Cambridge, Pearson or any named school. No school in Tilhar is confirmed to teach the IB or IGCSE; the schools below are in other cities, appear only to show where families from this area often look, and should be checked directly for their current curriculum and admissions.

    Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Tilhar: your questions answered

Does Tilhar have an IB or IGCSE school?+

No school in Tilhar is confirmed to teach the IB or Cambridge IGCSE. Local schools follow the UP Board, CBSE or ICSE. Families who want an international curriculum commonly consider Lucknow or Dehradun, and our tutors support students before and after such a move without making any claim on behalf of a school.

Will an IB or IGCSE tutor visit our home in Tilhar?+

No, tutors never visit homes in Tilhar. Home visits are available only in Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR. In Tilhar all lessons are online and private, taken by your child at home on a laptop with a notebook, so the teaching is one to one even without a visit.

Can a Hindi-medium student manage IB or IGCSE?+

Yes, with preparation. The usual difficulty is English for analysis and explanation, not intelligence. A tutor can build vocabulary, written reasoning and confidence over a few months, especially in science and mathematics. Starting before admission reduces stress in the first term considerably.

What does IB or IGCSE tuition cost in Tilhar?+

We do not publish fixed prices. The rate depends on the programme, subject, level, session length and the tutor's experience, and it is sent to you in writing before the trial lesson. Since lessons are online you pay nothing for travel, and there is no compulsory package or contract.

Which IB and IGCSE subjects can you cover?+

IB Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Economics, Business Management, English, Hindi, Computer Science, Psychology, Geography, History, ESS, TOK and EE guidance, plus MYP and PYP support. For IGCSE we cover mathematics, sciences, business, economics, computing, English, Hindi and geography.

Do you write the Internal Assessment, Extended Essay or TOK essay?+

No. Tutors coach and explain, but they never write or edit a student's submitted work. They can help a student choose a question, understand the criteria, structure an argument and practise, but the IA, EE and TOK essay must be the student's own. This protects the student's results.

When should we start preparing before moving to an international school?+

Ideally six to twelve months before admission. That is enough time to build spoken and written English, practise explaining reasoning and close gaps in mathematics and science. A shorter plan still helps, but an earlier start leaves the child much more comfortable during the first term.

How do the UP Board and CBSE compare with the IB for university entry?+

They lead to different routes. UP Board and CBSE students rely on board marks and entrance tests such as JEE, NEET and CUET-UG. IB and IGCSE students may use Association of Indian Universities equivalence, CUET-UG and study-abroad applications. Eligibility rules for entrance exams change, so always check the official notices.

What happens in the free trial class?+

The tutor teaches a real topic from your child's current work for about thirty to forty-five minutes, checks the level and suggests a plan. There is no obligation afterwards. The written rate has already been shared, so you can decide calmly, and a different tutor can be tried if the first is not a fit.

How do we cope with power cuts, fog and poor internet?+

Plan for them. Keep the laptop charged, use a mobile hotspot as a backup and pick a slot when supply is usually stable. Fog does not affect online lessons, only the roads. If a session is cut short, the tutor continues at the next slot or arranges a short make-up.

How many hours a week should a student take?+

One hour a week suits many students, rising to two during exam months or in the hardest subject. A child who is already doing well may need less. The tutor's short written notes let you judge whether the pace is right, and you can change it at any point.

Is online tutoring suitable for younger children?+

Yes, when it is short, lively and supported by a parent nearby at the start. For primary and lower middle school students, sessions are around thirty to forty-five minutes, with reading aloud, talking through problems and simple written tasks rather than long lectures.

Can a tutor help with PYP or MYP subjects?+

Yes. PYP help focuses on reading, number sense and speaking, while MYP support covers criterion-based writing, investigations and the Personal Project. The tutor follows what the student's school is teaching and never completes assessed work for the child.

Can we change the tutor if the teaching style does not suit?+

Yes. Tell us what is not working and we arrange another tutor, usually with a fresh trial. Teaching style, pace and timing all matter, and a good fit is more important than persisting with a poor one. There is no penalty for asking.

Is IB Gram connected to any school or exam board?+

No. IB Gram is an independent tutoring service, not affiliated with the International Baccalaureate, Cambridge, Pearson Edexcel or any school. That independence means advice about courses, levels and pathways is based on the student's needs, not on any institution's interest.
