IB and IGCSE Tutors in Thuraiyur: Online Private Home Tuition

If you are hunting for IB or IGCSE home tuition in Thuraiyur, the honest position is that a private tutor for either syllabus does not exist locally and nobody will knock on your door; what does work is a specialist teaching your child one to one from the study table at home, over live video, on Indian time. The nearest schools confirmed to run Cambridge or the IB sit about an hour south in Tiruchirappalli, so most families here build the subject at home instead of moving for it.

  • A tutor picked for the exact programme, subject and level your child is registered in, not a general tuition batch
  • Teaching stays on screen in Thuraiyur; the only places a tutor physically attends are Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR
  • One full lesson at no charge before any money is discussed
  • No tie to the IB, Cambridge, Pearson or any school mentioned anywhere on this page

IB & IGCSE in Thuraiyur

Thuraiyur, an hour north of Trichy, and the families who end up needing this

Thuraiyur is a selection-grade municipality of roughly thirty-two thousand people, headquarters of its own taluk in Tiruchirappalli district, sitting in the Kongu Nadu belt with the Pachamalai range rising immediately to the east. Schools here teach the Tamil Nadu state syllabus, a few teach CBSE, and literacy in town runs close to seventy-nine percent, comfortably above the national figure. What no school in Thuraiyur currently teaches is the IB or a Cambridge or Pearson Edexcel IGCSE course, and we will not pretend otherwise on a page meant to help you decide something.

So who in a town this size actually sits these papers? Three groups keep turning up. Children of families who spent years in Chennai, Bengaluru, Singapore or the Gulf and have come back to property, land or an elderly parent in Thuraiyur, with a child mid-way through MYP or the Diploma. Students enrolled with an online international school while living at home, often because a single parent works out of town. And boarders at a residential IB school in the hills or in Chennai, home for Pongal or the long May break, who need the term's backlog cleared before they return.

IB and IGCSE tutors in Thuraiyur are therefore online tutors, and that is a structural fact, not a limitation we are glossing over. A tutor who has taught IB Chemistry Higher Level for six years is not going to be living three kilometres from Perumalmalai. On video she can take your daughter's lesson at seven in the morning before the heat sets in, from wherever in India she happens to live, which is exactly how families here already handle specialist medical consultations and bank work.

IB Gram is an independent tutoring service. We coach, we mark, we explain, and we sit with a student while they work. We never write an Internal Assessment, an Extended Essay, a Theory of Knowledge essay or any coursework that a student will submit under their own name, and no tutor here will agree to that however the request is phrased.

At a glance

  • IB PYP, MYP, DP and CP, plus Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel IGCSE at both tiers
  • Private one-to-one lessons taken at home in Thuraiyur, on live video, never in a batch
  • A free first lesson, then a short written plan naming the subject, level and session count
  • A different tutor at no argument if the match is wrong after two or three sessions
  • Tutors do not travel to Thuraiyur; that format runs only in Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to Thuraiyur school years

Because the starting point here is almost never a local school, it helps to be precise about which stage of the IB a child is actually in before booking anything. These four notes describe what tends to arrive from Thuraiyur at each stage, and what a tutor can usefully do about it.

PYPPre-KG to Class 7, ages 3-12

IB Primary Years Programme

Learning runs through transdisciplinary units of inquiry rather than separate textbook subjects, finishing with the Exhibition in the final year. Nothing is externally examined. The skills that matter are reading at length, explaining a method out loud and framing a question worth investigating.

From Thuraiyur, PYP enquiries nearly always come from a child enrolled with an online international school at home, where a parent cannot easily judge whether the platform's own material has actually landed. A tutor's first job is to find that out.

MYPClass 6 to Class 10, ages 11-16

IB Middle Years Programme

Each subject is assessed against four criteria rather than a single mark, the Personal Project takes up most of Year 5, and some schools close the programme with on-screen eAssessment. Students usually know the content and lose marks on criterion wording.

Thuraiyur students arriving from a Samacheer or CBSE classroom have rarely been asked to argue a point against a published descriptor, so early MYP sessions are spent unlearning the answer-and-move-on habit the state exams reward.

DPClass 11-12, ages 16-19

IB Diploma Programme

Six subjects across Higher and Standard Level over two years, with Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Internal Assessments that carry roughly twenty to thirty percent of each subject's grade. Session results land in July for May candidates.

This is the heaviest demand from Thuraiyur, usually from boarders home on break or online-school students, and usually in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English A Language and Literature.

CPClass 11-12, ages 16-19

IB Career-related Programme

DP courses are combined with a career-related study, a reflective project, a service element and a language-development strand. It suits a student who wants depth in two or three academic subjects alongside applied work.

CP is rare across Tamil Nadu and rarer still in a taluk town, so Thuraiyur requests are almost always for the DP course components inside a CP enrolment rather than the applied study itself.

Subject coverage

IB subjects we tutor

The IB subjects below are the ones Thuraiyur families actually ask for, listed with the levels we teach. If your child's subject is not here, send the course code from the school's own subject sheet and we will tell you honestly whether a specialist is available this term.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

SL and HL

Proof, calculus, complex numbers at Higher Level and a calculator-free paper that catches out students trained on state-board shortcuts. We work from the formula booklet rather than memorised steps.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

SL and HL

Statistics, modelling, financial mathematics and heavy graphic display calculator work. Most of the teaching effort goes on choosing the right test and writing a conclusion the examiner can credit.

Physics

SL and HL

Mechanics, fields, thermodynamics and the HL options, with practical write-ups and uncertainty treatment, which is usually the part no previous classroom has taught properly.

Chemistry

SL and HL

Bonding, energetics, equilibrium and organic mechanisms, plus the data-booklet habits and the Internal Assessment design conversation, which a student must own rather than borrow.

Biology

SL and HL

Cell processes, genetics, physiology and ecology, taught against command terms, since outline, explain and evaluate carry very different mark expectations in this subject.

Economics

SL and HL

Diagram accuracy first, then the real-world commentary portfolio. Thuraiyur's own paddy and maize markets, handloom units and powerloom shift make surprisingly good commentary material.

Business Management

SL and HL

Tools such as SWOT and Ansoff applied to a named firm, with the HL research project. Students from trading and jewellery families often already understand the commercial logic and need the vocabulary.

Computer Science

SL and HL

Pseudocode conventions, data structures, networks and the solution-development Internal Assessment, built around a problem the student has actually seen rather than a textbook scenario.

English A: Language and Literature

SL and HL

Guided analysis under time pressure, the individual oral with its global issue, and the HL essay. Pacing the unseen paper is the single biggest gain for most students here.

English B

SL and HL

Text types, register and the productive skills, for a student whose schooling so far has been largely in Tamil and who now has to write a formal proposal or blog in English to a brief.

Tamil A: Literature

SL and HL

Literary study in Tamil for students keeping the language at first-language level, which many families from this district deliberately do rather than dropping it for an easier option.

Hindi B

SL and HL

Grammar, comprehension and the productive papers for a second-language Hindi candidate, which usually means a child who picked it up during a posting outside Tamil Nadu.

French ab initio and B

ab initio and SL

Vocabulary built around the prescribed themes with regular spoken practice, taken by students who want a language with no prior schooling in it.

Geography

SL and HL

Case-study discipline and map skills, with the Pachamalai slopes, the north-east monsoon and the town's hill-fed tank system available as local examples.

History

SL and HL

Source evaluation, essay structure and the internal assessment investigation, where choosing a researchable question matters more than the reading that follows.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

Exhibition objects and the prescribed title essay, taught as a way of arguing about knowledge claims. We coach the thinking and the structure; the student writes every word submitted.

IGCSE coverage

IGCSE subjects we tutor

Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel IGCSE courses are taught separately below, because the tier choice and the paper structure differ enough that lumping them in with the IB would be misleading. Tell us the board and the paper codes printed on your child's statement of entry.

Mathematics

Core and Extended

The Extended tier adds functions, trigonometry beyond the basics and more demanding algebra. We decide tier from a marked past paper, not from a hunch, and revisit it once if needed.

Additional Mathematics

Cambridge 0606

Calculus, series and vectors for a student heading towards a mathematics-heavy Diploma or A Level. Useful bridging work for anyone who found Extended papers comfortable.

Physics

Core and Extended

Definitions and formula recall are where marks go missing, so sessions drill the wording of a law alongside the numerical practice and the alternative-to-practical paper.

Chemistry

Core and Extended

Moles, electrolysis, rates and organic families, with repeated practice on the qualitative analysis tables that students routinely try to memorise instead of reading.

Biology

Core and Extended

Diagram labelling, experiment description and the long-answer structure. Coordination and homeostasis are usually the two weakest areas on arrival.

Combined and Co-ordinated Sciences

Double and single award

For students taking the sciences as one subject, where the risk is assuming each strand is shallower than it is. We map exactly which topics are examinable at each award.

English as a Second Language

Core and Extended

Reading for specific information, summary writing and the speaking test. This is the paper most Thuraiyur candidates benefit from quickest, because the technique is teachable.

First Language English

Cambridge 0500 and Edexcel equivalent

Directed writing, composition and the reading inserts, taught by marking the student's own writing line by line rather than by handing over model answers.

Economics

Cambridge 0455

Diagrams, data response and structured essays, with examples drawn from agriculture, weaving and small-scale gold work rather than from a London textbook.

Business Studies

Cambridge 0450

Case-study papers reward applying a concept to the given business, not reciting it. That transfer is the whole of the teaching here.

Computer Science

Cambridge 0478

Number systems, logic gates, pseudocode and the theory paper, plus enough programming practice that algorithm questions stop feeling like guesswork.

Hindi and Tamil as a Second Language

Cambridge second-language syllabuses

Supported where a student is keeping an Indian language inside an international curriculum, which families moving between states very often want to protect.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around Thuraiyur school timetables

There is one delivery channel for Thuraiyur, which is live video, and three ways families use it. Nobody is sent to a house in this town; a tutor turning up in person is something we do only in Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR. What changes between these three is intensity, not place.

One fixed private lesson a week

Sixty or ninety minutes with the same tutor at the same hour each week, on a shared whiteboard with past-paper questions worked through together, followed by a few written lines to the parent. This is what most Thuraiyur families run for a full term.

  • The student stays at home in Thuraiyur and the specialist joins online from wherever she teaches
  • One tutor across the term, so nothing has to be re-explained each month
  • Mistakes are corrected while the pen is still in hand, not three days later in a correction sheet
  • Fits around state-board school hours and the evening coaching many students already attend

A paired slot for Internal Assessment and project work

A second weekly session held while an Internal Assessment, MYP Personal Project or Extended Essay is live, used for planning, method, data and feedback on the student's own drafts. The writing stays entirely the student's.

  • Research question narrowed until it is answerable in the word count available
  • Method, variables and data handling checked before the experiment is run, not after
  • Comments on the student's draft, never a rewritten paragraph supplied by the tutor
  • A deadline map a parent can actually read, set against the school's internal dates

A short intensive block before papers

Three to five sessions a week for a few weeks before mocks or the May and November series, built from past questions, mark schemes and examiner wording rather than fresh content. Often booked during the school holidays.

  • Timed papers sat under real conditions and marked against the published scheme
  • Targeted at the two or three topics the student is actually losing marks on
  • Scheduled early morning in the hot months, since afternoons here are unworkable in May
  • Dropped back to one weekly slot once the series is over

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Thuraiyur

01

Who in Thuraiyur actually sits IB or IGCSE papers?

  • Returnee families with a child mid-programme, needing continuity rather than a fresh start
  • Online international school students at home, needing a human check on what is being absorbed
  • Boarders from Kodaikanal, Chennai or Coimbatore on break, clearing a term's backlog
  • State-board and CBSE students exploring IGCSE for Class 9, with the family still undecided

A small set of families, and they are identifiable. Returnees who worked in Chennai, Bengaluru, Singapore or the Gulf and have come back to land, property or ageing parents in Thuraiyur, carrying a child already part-way through MYP or the Diploma. Students enrolled with an online international school from home. And boarders from Kodaikanal, Chennai or Coimbatore who are home for Pongal or the long May break. Nobody here is sitting these papers because the school down the road offers them, because it does not.

That changes what tuition has to do. In a city with ten IB schools, a tutor supplements a classroom teacher who has already covered the syllabus in order. In Thuraiyur the tutor is often the only person in the student's daily life who has read the subject guide. So the first two sessions go on auditing where the student actually stands against the published assessment objectives, which is frequently a different picture from the one the online school's dashboard shows.

The second thing it changes is the parent's role. A mother in a weaving household or a father running a small gold-work bench cannot be expected to know what an Internal Assessment criterion means, and should not have to. The written note after each lesson exists for exactly this: plain-language, no jargon, what was covered, what was weak, what happens next. Parents in town have told us this is the part they would least want to lose.

Finally, it changes how switching gets discussed. A Thuraiyur family weighing a move from Samacheer or CBSE to IGCSE is also weighing boarding, relocation and separation from a joint household. We will tell you straight when a switch looks unwise for a particular child, and we have no interest in talking anyone into a two-year commitment that will not suit them.

02

Samacheer, CBSE, IGCSE and the IB, compared from a Thuraiyur parent's side of the table

The Tamil Nadu state syllabus, Samacheer Kalvi, is what most Thuraiyur children follow, and it has real strengths: it is affordable, it is taught in Tamil or English locally, and it feeds straight into state-quota engineering and medical admissions that remain the dominant ambition across this district. The weakness families eventually notice is that it rewards reproducing a worked answer rather than constructing one, which is precisely the habit both the IB and IGCSE penalise.

CBSE sits in between and is available in a handful of schools within reach. It travels well across states, which matters for a transferable job, and it aligns tightly with the national entrance exams. IGCSE, taken at Class 9 and 10 level, trades some of that entrance-exam alignment for written-English fluency, experimental skill and the option of a Core or Extended tier that can be matched to a particular child rather than imposed on a whole class.

The Diploma is a different order of commitment. Six subjects, three at Higher Level, Theory of Knowledge, an Extended Essay and Internal Assessments across every subject, over two years, assessed by people who have never met the student. For a child who reads widely and argues well it is transformative. For a child who is already stretched thin by the state board's volume, it can be the wrong instrument, and it is worth saying so before Class 11 begins rather than halfway through it.

There is one practical Thuraiyur-specific point. Whichever of these you choose, the international options require either relocation, boarding or an online school, because they are not available in the taluk. That logistical fact tends to matter more in the final decision than any curriculum comparison does, and families do themselves a favour by costing it out early.

03

What does IB or IGCSE tuition cost a family in Thuraiyur?

We do not publish a rate, and the reason is not coyness: the same subject can differ by a wide margin depending on level, tutor scarcity and how often you want to meet. What we do instead is quote in writing before you commit anything, after a free trial lesson, so the number you see is for your child's actual course rather than an advertised starting price that bears no relation to it.

Four things move the figure. Level comes first, because Higher Level Diploma teaching costs more than IGCSE Core teaching, and a specialist in a thinly staffed subject such as Computer Science HL or Economics HL is scarcer than one in IGCSE Mathematics. Frequency comes second: one weekly slot across a term is a different commitment from five sessions a week in the fortnight before papers. Duration and session length follow.

A Thuraiyur family has one genuine cost advantage worth naming. Because the teaching is online, you are not paying for travel, a tutor's commute from Trichy, or a hostel seat in a city. The comparison that matters locally is not online tuition against a cheaper local alternative, since no local alternative for these syllabuses exists, but online tuition against relocating or boarding, which runs into an entirely different order of expense.

Two further points, said plainly. The trial lesson is a full lesson and costs nothing, so you can judge the teaching rather than the sales pitch. And if the tutor is not right for your child after two or three sessions, you ask for a different one and we arrange it, because a bad match wastes your money faster than any rate difference.

Online lessons, the Trichy coaching run, a local private tutor or self-study: which works here?

For IB and IGCSE specifically, online one-to-one teaching is the only one of these four that reliably delivers a subject specialist to a Thuraiyur student, and the reason is simple arithmetic. A town of thirty-two thousand with no international school will not sustain an IB Chemistry Higher Level teacher. Online removes the geography from the problem and leaves only the timetable, which is negotiable.

The Trichy coaching run deserves a fair hearing because families do consider it. Driving fifty kilometres each way for an evening class is physically possible, but Trichy's coaching market is built around JEE, NEET and board preparation, not around Cambridge or IB syllabuses. You would be paying in time and fuel for a class that is not teaching your child's actual course, and the return journey after dark on that road is not something most parents want three evenings a week.

A local private tutor is genuinely useful for the right job. There are capable mathematics and science graduates in and around Thuraiyur who can shore up algebra or basic organic chemistry, and that help is real. What they cannot do, through no fault of their own, is coach an MYP criterion response, an Internal Assessment design or an Economics commentary portfolio, because they have never seen those documents. Many families end up using both, which is a sensible arrangement.

Self-study with past papers and online videos works for a disciplined student in a subject they already like. It falls apart in the places that carry the most marks: experimental write-ups, command-term precision, and anything where a student cannot tell the difference between their answer and the mark scheme's answer. That gap is what a tutor exists to close, and it is very hard to close alone.

05

How do Thuraiyur's weather, festivals and school year collide with the exam calendar?

They collide in four predictable places, so a timetable built once in June and never revisited will fail here. Summer is the first. Thuraiyur sits in a hot pocket despite the hills around it, with May temperatures reaching the low forties, which makes afternoon study genuinely unproductive. From March to June, sessions move to before eight in the morning or after six in the evening, and that is not a preference, it is what works.

The north-east monsoon is the second. From roughly October to December the rain arrives, roads in the low-lying tank and canal belt below town flood, and power supply becomes less dependable. This overlaps directly with November IGCSE and IB papers and with mock season for May candidates, so we build in catch-up slots rather than assuming every booked session will happen.

Festivals are the third. Pongal in mid-January takes out the better part of a week across this district and overlaps with the final run-up for May candidates. The Puratassi Saturdays and the full-moon girivalam at Perumalmalai fill particular days with family obligation. Deepavali and Aadi affect households differently, so we ask each family for its own dates instead of applying a generic holiday list.

The fourth is the Tamil Nadu public exam calendar, which matters even to a family that has left the state board, because siblings, cousins and the neighbourhood all go quiet during it. March and April are exam weeks in local schools, and households organise themselves around whoever is sitting a public exam. An IGCSE candidate in the same house benefits from that silence if their slots are placed inside it.

The Thuraiyur year against IB and IGCSE assessment
PeriodWhat is happening locallyWhat it means for lessons
January, Pongal fortnightThe district's biggest holiday, households full and travel heavyLessons thin out for a week; May candidates make it up late January
March to AprilTamil Nadu public exam weeks; heat climbing past the high thirtiesEarly-morning slots only; quiet houses are useful for timed papers
MayPeak heat near forty-three degrees; the IB and IGCSE May series runsPapers sat, then a long break when boarders come home and book intensives
June to SeptemberNew academic year settles; Aadi and Puratassi observances; Perumalmalai footfall on SaturdaysThe best stretch for steady weekly teaching and Internal Assessment work
October to DecemberNorth-east monsoon, flooding in the canal belt, foggy mornings in DecemberNovember series runs; catch-up slots built in for weather and power cuts
06

Where do IB and IGCSE students from this part of Trichy district end up studying?

  • AIU equivalence certificate for the IB Diploma, used by Indian universities at admission
  • CUET-UG as the common entrance for central and participating universities
  • JEE and NEET eligibility judged on subjects at Class 12 equivalent, not on the board
  • Direct application abroad using IGCSE results and Diploma predicted grades

In four directions, and it is worth knowing all four before Class 9, because the choice narrows later. The first is Indian universities through equivalence. The Association of Indian Universities issues an equivalence certificate for the IB Diploma, which Indian institutions accept for admission, and CUET-UG is the common gateway for a long list of central and participating universities. An IB or IGCSE background is no barrier there, but the paperwork takes planning rather than panic.

The second is engineering and medicine, the default ambition across this district. JEE and NEET are open to IB and IGCSE students, and the eligibility conditions concern the subjects passed at Class 12 equivalent level rather than the board itself. The practical issue is content mismatch: the IB Diploma does not drill the Indian entrance syllabus, so a serious JEE or NEET candidate running the Diploma is carrying two workloads and should plan the calendar accordingly.

The third is abroad. IGCSE and the Diploma are read directly by admissions offices in the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Singapore and much of Europe, with the Diploma's predicted grades doing the work that a board percentage would otherwise do. For Thuraiyur families with relatives in Singapore or the Gulf, this route is usually the reason the Diploma came up at all.

The fourth is the regional option that nobody should dismiss. Trichy has strong institutions, and the colleges in Musiri and the wider district serve plenty of capable students well. A child can do the Diploma or IGCSE and still choose to study in Tamil Nadu, and that is a legitimate outcome rather than a waste of the qualification.

IB Mathematics AA and AI, and the three sciences, taught from a Thuraiyur study table

  • Analysis and Approaches for engineering, physics, economics and mathematics pathways
  • Applications and Interpretation for medicine, business, design and the social sciences
  • A calculator-free paper in AA, which needs practice from the first term, not the last
  • Internal Assessment design coached in full; the written submission stays the student's own

The mathematics decision is the one families here get wrong most often. Analysis and Approaches is the proof-and-calculus route, with a paper sat without a calculator, and it is the expected choice for engineering, physics, economics and mathematics at most universities. Applications and Interpretation leans on statistics, modelling and the graphic display calculator, and suits medicine, design, business and social sciences. Neither is the easy one; they are difficult in different places.

What trips up a student arriving from Samacheer or CBSE is not the content but the expectation. Both IB courses ask for a written justification of a method, and Analysis and Approaches Higher Level asks for proof as a discipline rather than a memorised sequence. A student who has spent four years being rewarded for a fast correct answer has to be taught, patiently, that the working is where the marks are. That retraining takes a term, not a fortnight.

In the sciences, the Internal Assessment is where the real difference sits. A student designs and runs their own investigation, and is marked on the quality of that design, on uncertainty handling and on evaluation. Nothing in a state-board or CBSE practical record prepares a child for it, because that work is prescribed. The tutor's job is to make the student own a research question, then stay out of the writing entirely.

Higher Level sciences also carry extension topics that a student should see early rather than discover in February. Physics at Higher Level deepens fields and thermodynamics, Chemistry pushes into energetics and mechanism detail, and Biology widens physiology and ecology considerably. We map these at the start so a student knows the shape of the two years and can pace an Internal Assessment against them.

08

IGCSE Core or Extended, and choosing subjects without regret two years later

Cambridge offers many subjects at two tiers, Core and Extended, and the grade range differs: Core caps lower, Extended reaches the top grades. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE structures its papers differently but faces a family with the same question. The honest way to decide is to have the student sit one past paper at each tier and mark it properly against the scheme, which is usually the first thing we do when an IGCSE enquiry comes in from Thuraiyur.

Tier choice has a consequence that parents here sometimes learn late. If a child intends to take a subject at Higher Level in the Diploma, or to A Level, the Extended tier is effectively the entry route, because Core does not cover the content the next course assumes. Picking Core for an easier Class 10 and then wanting Physics Higher Level in Class 11 creates a gap that has to be filled in a hurry, and we would rather flag that in Class 9.

Subject choice has its own traps. English as a Second Language is the right paper for many students in this district and nothing to apologise for, but a student aiming at a competitive humanities course abroad may need First Language English instead. Combined or Co-ordinated Sciences keeps the timetable light yet limits what can be carried forward at Higher Level. Keeping Tamil as a second language is usually a gain, not a sacrifice, and families here are right to protect it.

A last practical note for an online-school student in Thuraiyur. Entry codes, tier decisions and the exam centre all have deadlines, and the centre itself will not be in Thuraiyur, so travel to Trichy or Chennai has to be planned around the paper dates. We will walk through the statement of entry with you and point out what needs deciding, though the registration is always the school's responsibility and yours.

09

What does a term of online tuition from Thuraiyur actually look like?

  • Send the programme, subject, level, board and any marked paper to start
  • A free full trial lesson, then a written plan with the rate stated before you pay
  • A fixed weekly slot with one tutor, a note to the parent after every session
  • A tutor change on request; no coursework ever written for a student

It starts with a conversation, not a sale. You tell us the programme, the subject, the level, the board and what is going wrong, and if you have a report card or a marked paper, that is better than any description. We say honestly whether a specialist for that exact course is available this term. If one is not, we say so rather than putting a general tutor in front of your child and hoping.

The trial lesson is a real lesson on real material, at no cost. A parent is welcome to sit in, and in Thuraiyur households somebody usually does for the first one, which is fine. Afterwards you get a short written plan: what the tutor found, what the sequence will be, how many sessions it is likely to take and what the rate is. Nothing is charged until you have read that and agreed.

Then the term runs. Same tutor, same slot, a shared whiteboard, past-paper work and a short note to the parent after each session. Every few weeks the tutor reviews the plan against what has actually changed, and if progress has stalled, that gets said out loud instead of being buried. Slots move for Pongal, for a flooded road in the monsoon, for a wedding or for a public exam in the house.

Two guarantees of a modest kind, since we make no promises about grades. If the tutor is not the right fit after two or three sessions, ask and you get a different one. And no tutor will ever produce a piece of work your child submits for assessment, whether that is an Internal Assessment, an Extended Essay, a Theory of Knowledge essay or a Personal Project, because that would put the student's own registration at risk.

Where we tutor

Thuraiyur town, the taluk around it and where lessons are taken from

Every lesson runs on video, so geography inside Thuraiyur matters less for travel and more for power cuts, network reliability and when the house is quiet. These are the areas families book from, with the practical note that actually affects a timetable.

Thuraiyur town centre and the bus stand area

The commercial core around the municipal bus stand, where the TNSTC depot under the Trichy division runs the day. Noisy until mid-evening, so later slots suit better than a late-afternoon one.

Perumalmalai foothills

The hill with the Prasanna Venkatachalapathi temple rises about three kilometres from town. Full-moon girivalam nights and Puratassi Saturdays bring heavy footfall, and families usually move those sessions.

The Trichy road corridor, south towards Siruganur

Houses strung along the road south, with easier access to Trichy for a weekend visit or an exam centre run. Several boarders in Chennai and Kodaikanal come from this stretch.

The Namakkal and Salem road side, north-west of town

The road out towards Namakkal and Salem, the direction Thuraiyur families most often take for residential schooling in the western districts. Early-morning slots are common before school transport leaves.

The handloom and weaving lanes

Weaving remains a significant livelihood here even as powerlooms take over, and work runs in shifts. Lessons in these households are scheduled around a loom day rather than an office day.

The jewellery and goldsmith quarter

Small-scale gold work is one of the town's established trades. Children from these families often take Business Management or Economics and already understand margin and stock.

Thathaiyangarpettai

A town on the taluk's western side within the Tattayyangarpettai block. Families here usually treat Trichy as the nearest real school option and keep the child at home with online lessons.

Uppiliyapuram block, east towards Pachamalai

Agricultural settlements towards the hills, where mobile data is less dependable than in town. We plan a fallback of audio with a shared screen rather than cancelling a session.

Thottiyam and the Cauvery belt south-west

Paddy country towards the river, about an hour from Thuraiyur. Harvest and irrigation weeks genuinely change what a household can commit to, and timetables shift with them.

Musiri

A larger town south-west on the Cauvery with its own college presence, which some Thuraiyur families use for day schooling. International syllabus work still has to come from outside.

Esanai and the eastern road

Towards the Ariyalur side, where the nearest railway station other than Trichy sits. Useful for families sending a child to board, since the station run shapes the term-break calendar.

The tank and canal belt south of town

Thuraiyur's old water system carries hill runoff into lakes and underground canals that feed the temple tank and the fields below town. These hamlets are closest to a flooded-road week in the north-east monsoon.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Thuraiyur

Thuraiyur itself: nothing local to enrol in

We could not confirm a single school inside Thuraiyur or its taluk offering the IB or a Cambridge or Pearson Edexcel IGCSE course. Local schools run the Tamil Nadu state syllabus and, in a few cases, CBSE. No school is named here because naming one would be an invention, and this is the honest reason tuition for these syllabuses is online in Thuraiyur.

Nearest confirmed: Tiruchirappalli, about an hour south

Trichy's international presence is small but real, concentrated around K.K. Nagar. A daily commute of roughly fifty kilometres each way is possible for a determined family, though most who choose this route end up renting in the city instead.

    • Alpha Cambridge International School
    • The Indian Public School, Trichy

    Boarding in the hills: Kodaikanal

A long-established residential IB World School in the Palani hills, which families across central Tamil Nadu have used for generations when boarding is preferred to relocating the whole household.

    • Kodaikanal International School

Relocation option: Chennai, roughly 310 kilometres away

The widest choice of confirmed IB and IGCSE schools in the state, and a realistic destination only if a parent's work can move there too. Many Thuraiyur families already have Chennai connections from an earlier posting.

    • Gateway International School
    • KC High International School
    • Akshar Arbol International School

    Westward: Coimbatore

Reached via the Namakkal and Salem road, with both day and residential international options. Worth looking at if the family's work or extended family already pulls in that direction.

    • Manchester International School, Coimbatore
    • Chinmaya International Residential School

IB Gram runs on its own; it is not an agent, franchise or partner of the IB Organization, Cambridge International, Pearson Edexcel or any institution listed above. Those schools appear purely as regional context, drawn from their own public listings, and admissions, fees and current programme status should be confirmed with each school directly before a family acts on anything here.

    How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

    1. 01

Tell us the exact course, not just the subject

Programme, subject, level, board and ideally the paper codes from the statement of entry. For a Thuraiyur family this detail matters more than usual, because there is no local school we can ring to confirm what is being taught.

    2. 02

We check whether the right specialist is free this term

A tutor who has taught that programme at that level, available at an hour that works from Thuraiyur. If nobody suitable is free, you hear that honestly instead of being handed a near-enough match.

    3. 03

Sit a full trial lesson at no cost

Real material, real teaching, a parent welcome to watch. Judge the tutor on how she handles your child's actual confusion, not on a profile paragraph or a review score.

    4. 04

Read the written plan and the rate, then decide

A short document naming what was found, the sequence proposed, the likely number of sessions and the fee in writing. Nothing is charged before you have agreed to it.

    5. 05

Run the term, and move slots when Thuraiyur requires it

A fixed weekly hour with a note after each session, shifted for Pongal, monsoon power cuts, a Puratassi Saturday or an exam in the household, with the plan reviewed every few weeks.

    Why families choose us

What Thuraiyur parents tell us matters most

Honest about what Thuraiyur does not have

No school in the town or taluk is confirmed for the IB or Cambridge and Edexcel IGCSE, so we say that rather than implying a local option exists. IB and IGCSE tutors in Thuraiyur reach students on screen, and we would rather you knew the shape of that before booking.

Matched by course, not by subject label

Mathematics Analysis and Approaches Higher Level is a different job from IGCSE Core Mathematics. The tutor who takes your child has taught the specific course, level and board, and we will tell you when such a tutor is not available this term.

You see the teaching before you pay anything

A full free lesson on your child's own material, then a written plan with the rate stated. No published price list, because the right number depends on level, subject scarcity and how often you want to meet.

A written record a parent can read

After every session a short note in plain language: what was covered, what is still weak, what comes next. Written so that a parent who has never seen an assessment criterion can still follow their child's progress.

    Scheduled around the Thuraiyur year

Early mornings through the forty-plus degree summer, catch-up slots during the north-east monsoon, lighter weeks at Pongal and around the Perumalmalai observances, and quiet hours used during local public exam fortnights.

Coaching only, with the academic honesty line held

Tutors explain, mark and question. No Internal Assessment, Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge essay, Personal Project or coursework is ever written by a tutor here, because the submission has to be the student's own in order to count.

    Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Thuraiyur: your questions answered

Is there any school in Thuraiyur offering IB or IGCSE?+

Not one that we could confirm. Schools in Thuraiyur town and across the taluk teach the Tamil Nadu state syllabus, with CBSE in a small number of cases. The nearest schools we can confirm for Cambridge or the IB are in Tiruchirappalli, roughly fifty kilometres south, and the wider confirmed choice sits in Chennai, Coimbatore and the Kodaikanal hills. That gap is why IB and IGCSE tuition for Thuraiyur students runs online, and families should verify current programme status with any school directly.

Do your tutors come to our house in Thuraiyur?+

No. A tutor physically attending a family's house is something we offer only in Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR. In Thuraiyur every lesson is live online: your child sits at the study table at home with a laptop and the tutor joins from wherever she teaches. We call it online home tuition because the student genuinely is at home, but nobody travels to your area, and we would rather be plain about that now than disappoint you later.

Is this the same place as Thiruthuraipoondi?+

No, and the names do get confused. This page is about Thuraiyur, the taluk headquarters in Tiruchirappalli district, near the Pachamalai hills and the Perumalmalai temple, about an hour north of Trichy. Thiruthuraipoondi is a separate town in Tiruvarur district, in the Cauvery delta towards the coast, and it has its own page on this site. If you are in the delta town, use that page instead; everything about school availability and distances differs.

How much does IB or IGCSE tuition cost for a Thuraiyur student?+

We quote in writing after the free trial lesson rather than publishing a rate, because the honest figure depends on your child's course. Four things drive it: the level, with Higher Level Diploma costing more than IGCSE Core; how scarce the subject specialist is; how often you want to meet; and session length. Because teaching is online, no travel cost enters the figure at all, and the local comparison is really against boarding or relocating, which costs far more.

Which IB subjects can my child take with you from Thuraiyur?+

Mathematics in both routes, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Economics, Business Management, Computer Science, English A and B, Tamil A, Hindi B, French, Geography, History and Theory of Knowledge, at Standard and Higher Level. If the subject your child needs is not on this page, send the course code from the school's subject sheet. We will say honestly whether a specialist is free this term, rather than offering a general tutor in place of one.

Can you help with Internal Assessments and the Extended Essay?+

Yes, as a coach, and within a firm limit. A tutor will help narrow a research question, sanity-check a method before an experiment is run, discuss data handling and comment on the student's own drafts. A tutor will never write a paragraph that gets submitted, supply model text to be copied or edit the work into their own voice. The submission has to be the student's own, or the IB can refuse to award it, which nobody wants.

My child is at an online international school while living in Thuraiyur. Does that work?+

It works, and it is one of the commonest situations we see from this district. The usual problem is not the platform but the absence of anyone checking whether the material has actually been absorbed, since a dashboard showing completed lessons proves only that videos were clicked. A weekly live session audits that: the tutor works through problems with your child, finds the gaps and reports them to you in plain language after each lesson.

Can a Thuraiyur student still attempt JEE or NEET from an IB background?+

Yes. Eligibility for both turns on the subjects passed at Class 12 equivalent level rather than on the board, and IB Diploma students do sit them. The real difficulty is workload: the Diploma does not teach the Indian entrance syllabus, so a serious candidate is effectively running two courses and needs a calendar built for that from Class 11, not improvised in the final six months. We will plan it with you if that is the route.

Will Indian universities accept an IB Diploma from here?+

They do, through an equivalence certificate issued by the Association of Indian Universities, which Indian institutions use at admission. CUET-UG is the common entrance for many central and participating universities, and it is open to IB candidates. The paperwork needs starting well before results, not after, because certificates take time. Trichy and Chennai institutions handle these applications regularly, so this is a well-worn path rather than an unusual one.

How do you handle power cuts and weak mobile data in the Uppiliyapuram side villages?+

We plan around it instead of cancelling. Where the connection is unreliable, the lesson can drop to audio with a shared screen, which keeps most of the teaching intact, and the tutor's written notes plus the worked questions are sent afterwards so nothing is lost. During the north-east monsoon we deliberately leave catch-up slots in the week. Families nearer the town centre and the bus stand area rarely need any of this.

Should my child take IGCSE at Core or Extended tier?+

Decide it from evidence, not instinct. We have the student sit one past paper at each tier and mark both against the published scheme, which usually settles it in an afternoon. The point to weigh is what comes next: if the plan is that subject at Higher Level in the Diploma or at A Level, Extended is effectively the entry route, because Core leaves out content the next course assumes. Choosing Core for an easier Class 10 can cost you in Class 11.

What about Cambridge versus Pearson Edexcel IGCSE?+

Both are recognised and both are taught here, so the choice is usually made by whichever school or online provider you have enrolled with rather than by you. The practical differences are in paper structure, tiering and coursework options, which is why we ask for the board and paper codes from the statement of entry at the start. A tutor prepares for the specific papers your child will sit, not for a generic syllabus.

When are the IB and IGCSE exam sessions, and how does that fit the Thuraiyur year?+

The main series run in May and November, with results in July and January. Locally that means the May run-up collides with Pongal in mid-January and with the heat climbing through March and April, so revision sessions move to early morning. The November series sits inside the north-east monsoon, when flooding in the canal belt below town and power interruptions are likelier, so we build catch-up slots into those weeks in advance.

Can you teach Tamil, or support a child switching from Tamil-medium schooling?+

Yes to both. Tamil A Literature is taught for students keeping the language at first-language level, and Cambridge second-language Tamil is supported too. For a child moving from Tamil-medium schooling into an international curriculum, the harder work is usually academic English: writing an argument, handling command terms and reading long unseen passages under time pressure. English as a Second Language and English B are built for exactly that transition.

Do you teach PYP and MYP, or only the Diploma?+

The whole continuum, PYP through to the Diploma and CP. From Thuraiyur, PYP requests almost always come from children at an online international school, where the work is reading stamina, number sense and asking a sharper question. MYP work is mostly about criterion-based writing, which a Samacheer or CBSE classroom never asks for. Diploma demand is the heaviest, and tends to arrive in mathematics, the sciences and English A.

What if the tutor is not a good fit for my child?+

Tell us and we change the tutor, without an argument or a penalty. Two or three sessions is usually enough to tell whether a student is actually talking to the tutor or just nodding, and a quiet child in front of the wrong teacher learns very little. Reassigning early costs you one session; staying with a poor match for a term costs you the term. We would much rather you said something in week two.

How do we start, and who do we contact?+

Write to support@ibgram.com or message +91 7439 368 115 on WhatsApp with the programme, subject, level and board, plus a marked paper or report if you have one. We reply with whether the right specialist is available this term and offer a free trial lesson at an hour that suits a Thuraiyur household. After the trial you get a written plan and the rate, and only then does anything need to be paid.

    Flag of Thuraiyur

Start with a free lesson, from your own house in Thuraiyur

There is no international school in this town, and nobody is going to arrive at your door to teach Cambridge Chemistry, so the sensible move is to bring the specialist onto the screen at the study table. Send us the programme, the subject, the level and the board at support@ibgram.com, or message +91 7439 368 115 on WhatsApp, and attach a marked paper if you have one. We will tell you honestly whether the right tutor is free this term, set up a full trial lesson at no cost at an hour that suits the household, and put the plan and the rate in writing before anything is paid. IB and IGCSE tutors in Thuraiyur work on video, on Indian time, and the first lesson costs you nothing but the hour.
