IB and IGCSE Tutors and Online Home Tuition in Thirumangalam

Looking for private tuition at home in Thirumangalam for an IB or IGCSE course? Tutors here do not visit houses, but a live one-to-one lesson reaches your child's own desk over video. Thirumangalam sits about twenty kilometres south of Madurai, where the syllabus specialists your child needs are scarce, so we match a tutor anywhere in India who taught that exact subject and level recently.

  • Tutors are chosen for the exact IB subject and level, or IGCSE board and tier, never a loose label
  • Each lesson is live on video, one tutor with one student, with no recordings played back
  • A trial lesson comes first, so the teaching is judged before any fee is agreed
  • Independent of schools, exam boards and coaching chains

IB & IGCSE in Thirumangalam

Private IB and IGCSE tuition at home for a Thirumangalam student

Thirumangalam is a taluk town on the national highway between Madurai and Tirunelveli, and its classrooms are built around the Tamil Nadu State Board, Matriculation and CBSE. A family here that opts for the International Baccalaureate or a Cambridge or Pearson Edexcel IGCSE is nearly always making a deliberate, forward-looking choice, and that choice needs a tutor who has worked on the named course rather than a generalist who covers everything from Class 6 upward.

The difficulty is supply. A teacher who can take a student through IB Chemistry HL, or IGCSE Additional Mathematics at the Extended tier, is rarely found on the lanes around the bus stand, and even Madurai's pool is thin. Online tuition removes the geography problem: the lesson arrives on your child's laptop at the usual study table, and the tutor is chosen for the syllabus, not for the postcode.

To be straightforward about it, no tutor travels to a house in Thirumangalam. Visits to the student's home run only in Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR. Here, private tuition at home means exactly this: a one-to-one live class, taken from home, with a shared digital whiteboard and a short written note left after each session.

Students in the surrounding villages towards Kappalur, Kallikudi and the Usilampatti side are served the same way, since all that is needed is a steady connection and a quiet corner of the house.

At a glance

  • IB PYP, MYP and DP tutoring matched by subject and level
  • Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel IGCSE across Core, Extended, Foundation and Higher tiers
  • Live one-to-one lessons over video, taken from your own home
  • A trial class first, then a written plan only if you choose to continue
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to Thirumangalam school years

Hardly any school in or around Thirumangalam runs an IB programme, so the families who contact us usually come from a State Board, Matriculation or CBSE background and are heading towards a move, a boarding place or an overseas degree. The four programmes ask different things of a tutor, as set out here.

PYPNursery to Class 5, ages 3-11

IB Primary Years Programme

Children learn through six transdisciplinary themes and open questions instead of chapter tests, and the final year ends with a pupil-led Exhibition. A tutor's role is to strengthen reading fluency and number sense and to teach a young child how to look things up and explain what they found.

PYP requests from the Thirumangalam belt are occasional, usually from a family that has just moved from a city school, and they tend to ask for a gentle half-hour on reading and sums twice a week.

MYPClass 6-10, ages 11-16

IB Middle Years Programme

Each subject is marked against four published criteria, and Class 10 adds an independent Personal Project. Students who did well on recall in a State Board school often lose marks here by not explaining why, which is a habit that can be taught.

For Thirumangalam families moving a child across from Matriculation, the MYP help asked for most is writing up a science investigation properly and keeping the Personal Project journal from going stale.

DPClass 11-12, ages 16-19

IB Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three at Higher Level and three at Standard, sit beside Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service. Internal assessments carry a meaningful share of each subject grade, and the May session's results are released in early July.

A Diploma student linked to Thirumangalam is typically boarding at a school in another city or has relocated recently, so lessons are scheduled around the school's own timetable and holidays rather than around a local centre.

CPClass 11-12, ages 16-19

IB Career-related Programme

The CP pairs two or more Diploma subjects with a career-related course and a reflective project. Very few schools in southern Tamil Nadu run it, so the tutoring need is nearly always for the Diploma-level subjects inside it.

We see CP enquiries from this region only rarely, typically when a student is enrolled at a distant school and needs steady subject support at home in Tamil Nadu.

Subject coverage

IB subjects we tutor

We begin by pinning down the exact course, because Analysis and Approaches and Applications and Interpretation need different teachers, and Higher Level Physics is a different workload from the Standard Level paper. After that we confirm the tutor can keep one weekly slot that suits a Thirumangalam household.

IB Maths Analysis & Approaches

HL / SL

Calculus, functions and proof, where a student who has only drilled routine questions is tested by the unfamiliar ones on Paper 3.

IB Maths Applications & Interpretation

HL / SL

Statistics and modelling done with a graphing calculator, plus an exploration that needs a topic narrow enough to finish.

IB Physics

HL / SL

Mechanics through to fields and quantum physics, with marks won by reading what the command term really asks.

IB Chemistry

HL / SL

Stoichiometry, equilibrium and organic mechanisms, tied to fluent use of the data booklet in the practical write-up.

IB Biology

HL / SL

Cells to ecology, with the internal investigation often decided by whether the right statistical test was chosen at the start.

IB Economics

HL / SL

Diagram discipline across micro and macro, and evaluation that goes beyond listing advantages and disadvantages.

IB Business Management

HL / SL

Applying a tool to the case in front of you, rather than reciting a textbook definition beside it.

IB Computer Science

HL / SL

Algorithmic thinking and data structures before syntax, then a scoped solution for the internal assessment.

IB English A Language & Literature

HL / SL

Unseen passage analysis, comparative essays and an Individual Oral that rewards rehearsed thinking instead of memorised lines.

IB English B

HL / SL

Fluent written and spoken English across the set themes, for students who did not study English A.

IB Hindi B

HL / SL

Text types, register and controlled spoken practice for students whose home language lies elsewhere.

IB Tamil

SL

A school-supported option for Tamil speakers, where literary analysis and written technique are the areas we help with.

IB Psychology

HL / SL

Cited studies and extended responses that connect biological, cognitive and sociocultural explanations.

IB Environmental Systems & Societies

SL / HL

A course that blends science and humanities and rewards evaluating a case more than describing it.

Theory of Knowledge (TOK)

DP Core

Testing a knowledge claim from several directions, in the exhibition and in the prescribed-title essay.

Extended Essay (EE)

DP Core

Narrowing a wide interest to a question a 4,000-word essay can answer. We guide the method; the writing remains the student's.

IB MYP Sciences & Maths

MYP 1-5

Learning to plan and report an investigation, the habit a later DP science course assumes you already have.

IB MYP Language & Literature

MYP 1-5

Criterion-based analytical writing and a Personal Project journal kept up week by week.

IGCSE coverage

IGCSE subjects we tutor

The first job is confirming the board and the syllabus code, since Cambridge 0580 Extended and Edexcel 4MA1 Higher are different papers with different exam windows. The tier then sets how deep the lessons have to go, and whether a student needs the extra stretch of Extended content.

IGCSE Mathematics 0580

Core / Extended

Lost marks usually come from a misread instruction or a no-calculator slip, not from an unknown topic.

Edexcel IGCSE Mathematics A 4MA1

Foundation / Higher

Multi-step Higher tier problems worded differently from what Cambridge-trained students expect.

IGCSE Additional Mathematics 0606

Class 10

An early start on calculus and trigonometry that makes Diploma Mathematics feel less abrupt later.

IGCSE Physics 0625

Core / Extended

Rearranging formulae with confidence and handling the alternative-to-practical paper without a lab.

IGCSE Chemistry 0620

Core / Extended

Electrolysis, organic chemistry and the mole, where repeated practice beats one good explanation.

IGCSE Biology 0610

Core / Extended

Turning a genetics or ecology fact into a reasoned extended answer that earns the top-band marks.

IGCSE Combined & Co-ordinated Sciences

0653 / 0654

Keeping three sciences moving on one timetable when a school runs a double-award route.

IGCSE Computer Science 0478

Class 9-10

Tracing pseudocode by hand before typing Python, in exactly that order.

IGCSE Business Studies 0450

Class 9-10

Applying theory to the named business in the case rather than a generic firm remembered in advance.

IGCSE Economics 0455

Class 9-10

Diagrams that earn marks a paragraph cannot, particularly in the longer structured questions.

IGCSE English First Language 0500

Class 9-10

Directed writing and summary skills built on close reading of passages the student has not met before.

IGCSE English as a Second Language 0510

Class 9-10

Listening, reading and writing practice for students who use Tamil at home and English at school.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around Thirumangalam school timetables

With every Thirumangalam lesson on video, the real decisions are about pace and purpose, not venue. Three arrangements cover most families, and they can be swapped as the school calendar changes.

A fixed weekly lesson

One tutor, one slot, every week, following the school's own pace and using its worksheets and past papers. It suits students in the middle of a two-year course who need steady reinforcement.

  • Follows your school's teaching sequence instead of a separate plan
  • A brief written note after each session for parents
  • Easy to add a second weekly lesson before mocks
  • Usual choice for Higher Level and Extended tier subjects

An intensive block before an exam

Several lessons compressed into the weeks before a mock, an IGCSE series or an internal deadline, mostly timed questions marked against the real mark scheme.

  • Practice marked using the published IB or Cambridge criteria
  • Planned to meet the school's mock dates and the board's exam window
  • Best used in the final six to eight weeks
  • Can be run inside a school vacation

Targeted help on one problem

For a student who is fine overall but stuck on one unit, one stalled draft or one failed test, a handful of sessions can be booked and then stopped.

  • No standing weekly commitment
  • Suited to a clear, defined difficulty
  • Can grow into a weekly plan if it helps
  • Agreed per session in writing before it starts

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Thirumangalam

01

Why would a Thirumangalam family look at IB or IGCSE at all?

  • No confirmed IB or IGCSE school inside Thirumangalam itself
  • Families are often relocating, boarding or planning study abroad
  • Local tutors rarely know these specific syllabi in depth
  • Online lessons widen the choice to subject specialists across India

A Thirumangalam family usually turns to the IB or IGCSE for a concrete reason, not out of curiosity. The town's schools lean heavily on the Tamil Nadu State Board, Matriculation and CBSE, and nothing in the town itself offers a full international curriculum that we can confirm, so anyone asking about these qualifications has normally already decided to look beyond the local norm.

Some are parents with relatives abroad who want a school-leaving qualification that overseas universities read without translation. Some are families of engineers, bankers and government officers posted here from metros, whose children were already in an IB or IGCSE classroom and cannot afford a mid-course switch. Others are planning a boarding move to Madurai or Chennai and want the child ready before the first term.

A further group arrives from the other end: students who are curious about a liberal-arts degree, a UK course or an Indian university that accepts international qualifications, and who want to know whether Class 11 is the right moment to pivot. For them, a few trial lessons work as a low-risk way to sample how these boards assess.

Whichever route brought them, they share one practical problem. Local tutors know the State Board guide books closely, but very few know what a Paper 2 data question in IB Biology or a Cambridge Extended Mathematics paper actually expects, and that gap is why families look online.

02

Tamil Nadu Board, CBSE, IB or IGCSE: how do the routes differ for a Thirumangalam student?

The short version is that the Tamil Nadu State Board and Matriculation routes reward accurate recall in a fixed written paper, while the IB and IGCSE reward applied reasoning and, in many subjects, internally assessed work. Each has a sound place, and the right pick depends on where your child wants to study after Class 12.

State Board and Matriculation students in Tamil Nadu typically aim for TNEA engineering counselling, NEET for medicine, or Arts and Science admissions at state universities. CBSE students follow a national path into JEE, NEET and CUET-UG. Neither system asks a student to conduct an independent investigation before Class 12.

The IB Diploma, by contrast, expects a 4,000-word Extended Essay, a Theory of Knowledge component and subject internal assessments. IGCSE is narrower and exam-led, usually followed by A Levels or the Diploma. Students who switch from a State Board background often find their content knowledge is fine, but their answers are too short and too factual.

The table lays out the practical differences a Thirumangalam parent will want to compare.

03

What shapes the cost of online IB or IGCSE tuition in Thirumangalam?

  • Rate depends on programme, level, subject and session length
  • Quoted in writing before the trial lesson
  • No travel element, since lessons are online
  • Reviewed regularly, with no long contract

There is no one rate for Thirumangalam, because the work changes with the course. A Standard Level MYP subject and a Higher Level Diploma subject are not the same load for a tutor, and a teacher who has recently marked Paper 3 answers or Extended tier Cambridge scripts brings experience that shortens the route to marks.

Four things move the figure: the programme, the level within it, the subject, and how many sessions a week you want. Session length matters too, since a ninety-minute block before a mock costs differently from a forty-five-minute weekly lesson.

What a Thirumangalam family does not pay for is travel. Because nothing involves a tutor coming to the house, there is no conveyance charge and no surcharge for the highway run from Madurai. The money goes into teaching time.

We quote the rate in writing for your specific match before the trial lesson, so the first conversation about price is settled before anyone commits. Plans are reviewed every few weeks, and there is no lock-in period.

04

Online tuition, Madurai coaching centres, a neighbourhood tutor or self-study: what works?

For an IB or IGCSE course, a one-to-one online tutor chosen for the syllabus tends to work better than the alternatives available near Thirumangalam, because the real scarcity is expertise in these boards, not classrooms. That said, each option has a fair use.

Coaching centres in Madurai are well organised for JEE, NEET and State Board subjects, but their batches are built around those exams. A centre rarely has a teacher who has handled IB Computer Science HL or IGCSE Economics this year, and the commute eats the evening.

A local private tutor is convenient and often excellent for school subjects in Tamil Nadu's board system. For an international syllabus, however, the same tutor would be learning the mark scheme alongside your child. Self-study with past papers is a good supplement, yet without feedback the same mistakes repeat for months.

The comparison below shows how they differ on the points that matter for this kind of course.

The Thirumangalam study year: board exams, Chithirai, Pongal and the heat

Study planning in Thirumangalam follows two calendars at once: the school's academic year and the rhythm of the Tamil months. Most schools resume in June, run through Deepavali in autumn, and finish the term around March. IB May exams and Cambridge or Edexcel May-June series fall in the hottest part of the year, which matters for where and when a student revises.

Pongal in January is a real break, with family travel and a few lost days, so we plan a lighter week there rather than insist on full sessions. The Chithirai festival in Madurai draws households from across the district in April and May, which collides with mocks for some students. Summer afternoons are harsh on study, and most families prefer a lesson after four o'clock.

November is the second window for IB and international IGCSE series, and the Edexcel series in January suits late entrants. Because exam dates depend on the school and on the board's current timetable, we work from the school's own calendar, and parents should treat the table below as a planning guide only.

Power cuts and patchy broadband are a small but real factor in the outlying villages, so we keep the first lesson shorter and agree a simple fallback, such as rescheduling within the week.

06

Where can a Thirumangalam student go after IB or IGCSE?

  • AIU equivalence is the usual requirement for Indian admission after the IB Diploma
  • IGCSE is followed by A Levels or the Diploma before university entry
  • Check CUET-UG, JEE and NEET eligibility against current official notices
  • Overseas applications rely on predicted and final IB or A Level grades

IB and IGCSE students from Thirumangalam have three broad destinations: Indian universities, courses abroad, or a hybrid route that begins in India. For Indian admissions, the Association of Indian Universities issues equivalence for the IB Diploma, and for IGCSE the student normally completes A Levels or another Class 12 equivalent before applying.

CUET-UG accepts students from international boards, though eligibility details and subject mappings change, so a parent should verify them against the current information bulletin from the National Testing Agency. Likewise, JEE Main and NEET eligibility for an IB or IGCSE-plus-A-Level student depends on subject combinations and the latest official notice, and is worth checking in Class 11 and not in the final term.

Overseas, the IB Diploma and A Levels are read routinely by universities in the UK, Canada, Australia, Singapore and the United States. Students from the Madurai region often also weigh Indian options such as Anna University, Madurai Kamaraj University and institutions in Chennai and Bengaluru alongside foreign applications.

A tutor cannot decide the path, but can make sure the predicted and final scores keep every door open, which mostly comes down to strong Maths and a science, written well.

07

IB Maths and the sciences: where does a Thirumangalam student usually need the most help?

  • Maths AA: proof, reasoning and Paper 3 unfamiliar contexts
  • Maths AI: calculator fluency and explaining model limits
  • Sciences: command terms and unseen data questions
  • Internal assessment: guidance and feedback only, never writing

The pressure points are consistent across our enquiries. In IB Maths Analysis and Approaches, students arrive from the State Board with strong algebra and calculus drill, yet struggle with the proof-style reasoning and the open questions in Paper 3. In Applications and Interpretation, the obstacle is the calculator and stating a model's limits in words.

In IB Physics and Chemistry, the recurring trouble is the unfamiliar data question: a graph or a table the student has not seen, with a command term such as 'suggest' or 'evaluate'. Memorised answers do not carry over. Biology students tend to lose marks on the internal investigation, where the design and the statistics are fixed at the start.

Tutors here work from the student's own notes and past papers, slowing down on the command terms and then increasing the speed. A typical block covers one topic's theory, three exam-style questions marked against the official scheme, and a short list for the week.

Internal assessments are handled with a hard boundary: tutors coach, question and mark up, but never write any part of an IA, an Extended Essay or a TOK essay. That rule protects the student's Diploma.

08

IGCSE Core or Extended, Cambridge or Edexcel: which decision matters most?

  • Core tops out at a lower grade than Extended
  • Confirm the tier and the board with the school first
  • A timed diagnostic paper shows where marks are really lost
  • Extended Maths with Additional Maths prepares for Diploma or A Levels

Choosing the tier is the decision families underestimate. Core caps the top grade, while Extended opens the highest grades but asks for more algebra, more sustained working and sharper exam technique. The school normally makes the entry, yet a parent should know which tier their child has been put in before a tutor is booked.

Cambridge and Edexcel also differ in how they set papers and when they examine. A student who has practised only Cambridge-style questions can be thrown by an Edexcel Higher paper, and the reverse is equally true. Naming the board early saves weeks of practice on the wrong style of question.

A sensible way for a Thirumangalam student to start is a diagnostic lesson: one past paper, done against the clock, then marked together. It shows whether the gap lies in content, in speed, or in reading instructions, and the next eight weeks are then planned from evidence.

For students aiming at the Diploma or A Levels afterwards, Extended Mathematics plus Additional Mathematics is the usual launchpad, and the tutoring is designed with that two-year horizon in mind.

Where we tutor

Thirumangalam areas and nearby villages we teach in

Lessons happen on video, so where the tutor lives is irrelevant to which part of Thirumangalam we can serve. What matters is the household: when school ends, how the bus timings fall, and when the power and connection are dependable. We build the weekly slot around those facts instead of assuming one city-wide routine.

Thirumangalam town centre and bus stand

The commercial core along the highway, where many families run shops and a school-bus pick-up decides the evening start time.

Railway station area

Close to the Madurai-Tirunelveli line, with households of railway and government staff who value a steady weekly slot.

Kappalur

An industrial and logistics belt on the Madurai side of town, with working families who sometimes have parents on shift.

Kallikudi

A nearby town towards the Virudhunagar side, where students often commute into Thirumangalam or Madurai for school.

Usilampatti Road

The road to the west towards Usilampatti and the Theni hills, with a mix of farming and salaried homes.

Virudhunagar Road

The eastern approach towards Aruppukkottai and Virudhunagar, used by families with relatives in both districts.

Madurai Road

Homes along the northern stretch that shares a daily commute pattern with Madurai's southern suburbs.

Melakkottai and outlying villages

Village households for whom a home connection and a fixed weekly time matter more than proximity to any tuition centre.

Sedapatti and Kariapatti side

Smaller settlements across the district boundary, reached by the same online classes as the town itself.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Thirumangalam

Thirumangalam itself

We could not confirm a school inside Thirumangalam that teaches the IB or a Cambridge or Edexcel IGCSE, so we name none. Schools here follow the State Board, Matriculation or CBSE, and a family wanting an international curriculum is realistically choosing between a Madurai campus, a boarding place further away, or studying with support online.

    Nearby: Madurai

The closest concentration of international-curriculum schools is Madurai, reachable in under an hour from Thirumangalam on the highway. These are the ones we are aware of: Velammal Global School offers the IB continuum, and Vikaasa World School, TIPS Globeducate Madurai and Kalvi Intercontinental School offer Cambridge IGCSE. Admissions and seat availability are each school's own matter.

    • Velammal Global School
    • Vikaasa World School
    • TIPS Globeducate Madurai
    • Kalvi Intercontinental School

Tamil Nadu's wider international school belt

Chennai holds the largest group of IB and Cambridge schools in the state, too far for a daily commute from Thirumangalam, so those are boarding decisions. We name no school in that group, because we have not checked each one for this page.

No school, board or body named on this page has any link with IB Gram. We run independently, and the International Baccalaureate Organization, Cambridge Assessment International Education and Pearson Edexcel are mentioned only so families can see which syllabus a lesson follows, never to suggest partnership or approval.

      How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

      1. 01

        Tell us the course

Share the programme or board, the subject and level, your child's current standing and the evenings that are realistically free.

      2. 02

        Receive a short list

You get a few tutors who have taught this precise syllabus lately, each with one clear reason for the match.

      3. 03

        Attend the trial lesson

A real lesson on a real topic, free of charge, so you see the teaching before money is discussed.

      4. 04

        Agree the first month

Topics, weekly frequency and how you will hear about progress are settled in writing before paid lessons begin.

      5. 05

        Review and adjust

A short catch-up every few weeks on what has improved, with a simple swap of tutor if the fit is not right.

      Why families choose us

What Thirumangalam parents tell us matters most

      Syllabus first

Tutors are selected for the exact IB subject and level or IGCSE board and tier, never a general claim of competence.

      Honest about format

Thirumangalam receives online lessons, and we say so at the outset, so no family expects a doorstep visit.

      Judge before you pay

The trial lesson lets a parent watch real teaching before discussing fees.

      Coaching, not ghost-writing

Feedback on an IA, Extended Essay or coursework draft is welcome; writing it for the student is refused.

      A written trail

After each lesson, a short note records what was covered and what to practise next.

      Easy exit

Pause, stop or change tutor at any point, without a penalty or a fixed-term contract.

      Student and parent reviews

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Thirumangalam: your questions answered

Are there IB and IGCSE tutors in Thirumangalam?+

Yes, through live online lessons, though none of our tutors teach at a home in Thirumangalam. Local supply of IB and IGCSE specialists is very limited, so we match your child with a tutor elsewhere in India who has taught the exact subject and level recently. Lessons run online over video, at a time that suits your school and family routine.

Do tutors come to my home in Thirumangalam?+

No, tutors do not visit homes in Thirumangalam. In-person home tuition is available only in Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR. In Thirumangalam, private tuition at home means a live one-to-one video lesson taken from your own house, with a shared whiteboard for working through problems and a short written note after each session.

What does IB or IGCSE tuition cost in Thirumangalam?+

The fee depends on the programme, the level, the subject, session length and the tutor's recent experience with that syllabus, and we confirm it in writing before the trial lesson. Higher Level Diploma and Extended tier IGCSE work generally cost more than MYP or Core support. There is no travel charge because lessons are online, and no long contract.

Is there a free trial lesson?+

Yes, the first lesson is free and carries no obligation. It is a real class on a topic from your child's syllabus, not a sales call. Afterwards the tutor proposes a short plan for the first month, and you choose whether to continue, ask for changes or try a different tutor.

Are there IB or IGCSE schools in Thirumangalam?+

We could not confirm any school in Thirumangalam itself that teaches the IB or a Cambridge or Edexcel IGCSE, so we name none. The nearest we are aware of are in Madurai, about twenty kilometres north, including Velammal Global School for the IB and several Cambridge IGCSE schools. Always check admissions and current affiliation directly with the school.

Which IB Diploma subjects can you support?+

We cover both IB Maths courses, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Economics, Business Management, Computer Science, Psychology, Environmental Systems and Societies, English A and B, Hindi B, Tamil, Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay. Each is taught at Higher or Standard Level by a tutor who has worked on that course, and all lessons are live online sessions.

Do you teach MYP and PYP students as well?+

Yes, we cover the full IB continuum. MYP help focuses on criterion-based writing in sciences, maths and language, and on keeping the Class 10 Personal Project on schedule. PYP support builds reading fluency, number sense and inquiry skills in short, regular lessons that suit a younger child's attention span.

My child studies the Tamil Nadu State Board. Can we move to IGCSE or IB?+

Yes, and it is one of the commonest requests from this part of Tamil Nadu. Content overlaps more than parents expect, particularly in maths and science. The big change is how marks are earned, since these boards reward explanation and application. A tutor can build that habit in a term, ideally starting before Class 9 for IGCSE or Class 11 for the Diploma.

Can a tutor help with an Internal Assessment or Extended Essay?+

A tutor can help narrow a research question, explain what the criteria reward, check a method and give honest feedback on a draft, but will not write any part of it. Writing assessed work breaches the IB's academic integrity rules and can put the Diploma at risk, so our tutors decline any request to do it.

How do Cambridge and Edexcel IGCSE differ for tutoring?+

They differ in syllabus codes, paper style and exam months, so a tutor needs to know which one your child is entered for. Cambridge 0580 Extended and Edexcel 4MA1 Higher Mathematics, for instance, phrase problems differently. We ask for the board and syllabus code first, and choose a tutor who has taught that specific specification.

      When should tutoring begin?+

The earliest sensible start is the start of the course, Class 9 for IGCSE and Class 11 for the IB Diploma, before internal assessment deadlines, predicted grades and mocks begin to crowd the calendar. A later start still helps, but lessons then concentrate on the highest-value topics and on timed past papers ahead of the exam series.

What if the connection or power is unreliable at home?+

We plan for it. The first lesson is kept short to test the connection, a phone hotspot is an acceptable backup, and a missed lesson is rescheduled within the same week where possible. Students in outlying villages around Thirumangalam use the same arrangement, and notes after each lesson mean nothing is lost if a class drops.

Can lessons fit around Chithirai, Pongal and summer heat?+

Yes. We schedule lighter weeks around Pongal and the Chithirai festival period, and most families in this region prefer lessons after four in the afternoon during April and May. Exam dates come from your school and the board, so the tutor works back from those and leaves a few days of slack around local holidays.

What happens if my child does not get on with the tutor?+

Tell us and a replacement is arranged, with no fee for switching. Regular check-ins exist to catch a poor fit early instead of letting months pass. Stopping altogether works the same way, without a cancellation charge, and the notes already written stay with you.

Is IB Gram connected to any school, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson?+

No. IB Gram is an independent tutoring service with no tie to any school, to the International Baccalaureate Organization, to Cambridge Assessment International Education or to Pearson Edexcel. Schools and boards named on this page are there only to explain the options a Thirumangalam family is weighing, and each tutor follows the school's calendar and the board's published syllabus.
