IB and IGCSE Tutors and Online Home Tuition in Tezpur

Searching for home tuition in Tezpur that covers the IB or IGCSE? A teacher cannot drive over from Tezpur University or the cantonment, because in-person visits run only in Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR. What we offer instead is online home tuition: a live lesson on a laptop in your own house, one student and one tutor, taught by someone who has handled the syllabus before.

  • Every class runs online; no tutor visits a house in Tezpur, since home visits exist only in Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR
  • We could not confirm an IB or Cambridge school in Tezpur, so tutors are chosen for the syllabus and not for distance
  • One full trial lesson costs nothing and commits you to nothing
  • No tie to any school, examination board or organisation named here

IB & IGCSE in Tezpur

What an international syllabus means for a Tezpur household

Tezpur, on the north bank of the Brahmaputra in Sonitpur district, had just over 100,000 residents at the 2011 census and is one of Upper Assam's best-known education towns, home to Tezpur University, Darrang College and a medical college. The schools that most families use follow the Assam board, CBSE or ICSE. No school in the town is confirmed by us as an IB World School or as a Cambridge centre.

The families who do ask about the IB or IGCSE are a particular mix. Defence households posted to the cantonment and the air base, university faculty from across India, tea-estate managers and professionals with children who studied elsewhere all arrive with a child already on an international course, or with plans to move to one. Keeping a syllabus going through a posting is the commonest request.

Geography makes online lessons the sensible choice. Guwahati is about 175 km away by road, and Jorhat and Nagaon are several hours off in other directions, so there is no realistic local pool of specialists. A tutor joining on video from elsewhere in India offers more than a generalist around the corner, and the student stays at the family table.

IB Gram is independent of the International Baccalaureate Organization, Cambridge Assessment International Education, Pearson Edexcel and every school on this page. Tutors explain, set practice and mark it. They do not write Internal Assessments, Extended Essays, Theory of Knowledge essays or coursework handed in for a grade.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to Tezpur school years

Tezpur students come to the IB from the back of a posting, a school move or a plan to study abroad. Each stage below is described by what it asks of a learner, with a note on what our tutors commonly see from families in Sonitpur.

PYPClass 1-5, ages 6-11

IB Primary Years Programme

Young students explore big ideas through units of inquiry that cut across subjects, and the last year ends with an Exhibition they plan themselves. No written external exam exists, so tutoring supports fluent reading, comfortable number work and curiosity that can be turned into a research question.

PYP enquiries from Tezpur typically involve a defence or faculty family whose child already studied the programme at a previous posting and needs continuity.

MYPClass 6-10, ages 11-16

IB Middle Years Programme

Every MYP subject is graded on four criteria and students finish with a Personal Project. A student used to the SEBA or CBSE style of writing must learn to address a criterion directly, with reasoning laid out step by step.

From Tezpur, MYP support is mostly in Sciences, Mathematics and Language and Literature, plus a timetable for the Personal Project.

DPClass 11-12, ages 16-19

IB Diploma Programme

Students take three subjects at Higher Level and three at Standard Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service. Internal Assessments contribute to the final grades and the examinations come in May.

Diploma students from Tezpur generally study at a school in another city or abroad, so tutors bridge the gap at home during holidays and alongside term.

CPClass 11-12, ages 16-19

IB Career-related Programme

A smaller set of Diploma courses is combined with a career-related study and a reflective project. Hardly any Indian schools run it, but the Diploma courses are assessed to the same standard.

CP enquiries from Tezpur are very rare and tend to relate to a specific school abroad.

Subject coverage

IB subjects we tutor

For a Tezpur student we start by fixing the course code and the level. Analysis and Approaches students meet different papers from Applications and Interpretation students, and an HL learner needs another pace from an SL learner. Then come the exam session, the state of the Internal Assessment and a weekly slot that works with a winter sunset before five and a school day that may start early.

IB Maths Analysis & Approaches

HL / SL

Calculus and proof are taught through worked problems, and HL candidates rehearse the longer unfamiliar questions of Paper 3 months ahead of time.

IB Maths Applications & Interpretation

HL / SL

Statistical tests, modelling and calculator fluency get most attention, with the exploration built on data from something the student cares about.

IB Physics

HL / SL

Mechanics, waves and fields are taught with the data booklet open, and the investigation needs a method that a moderator could follow from the write-up alone.

IB Chemistry

HL / SL

Quantitative work comes first because every later topic leans on it, and the practical investigation is drafted early enough for a second pass.

IB Biology

HL / SL

Students learn to answer the command term in each question, and ecology suits Assam's wetlands, tea estates and protected forests as local examples.

IB Economics

HL / SL

Diagram accuracy, real examples and a clear evaluative conclusion earn marks on all three papers, and HL students practise quantitative questions.

IB Business Management

HL / SL

Tea, oil, trading and small-enterprise families give students a real business to study, and answers that apply a tool to the case score higher.

IB English A Language & Literature

HL / SL

Unseen commentary, the comparative essay and the spoken oral are separate skills, each rehearsed on its own.

IB Computer Science

HL / SL

Algorithms, data structures and object-oriented programming are taught with live coding, since the internal assessment needs working software and documentation.

IB Psychology

HL / SL

Accurate citation of studies and a structured evaluation matter more than general knowledge of behaviour.

IB Environmental Systems & Societies

SL / HL

Flooding, river erosion and conservation near the Brahmaputra and Nameri provide strong case material for systems thinking.

IB Geography

HL / SL

Depth on a few cases beats breadth, and river dynamics in Assam make a natural fieldwork topic.

IB Assamese B

SL / HL

A language acquisition option for fluent Assamese speakers, concentrating on written accuracy, text response and the oral.

IB Hindi B

SL / HL

Useful for students who use Hindi with friends or at school, with structured writing and oral practice.

Theory of Knowledge (TOK)

DP Core

Argument-led discussion of prescribed titles, pushing the student to defend and then test a position.

IGCSE coverage

IGCSE subjects we tutor

Without a local centre, a Tezpur family chooses board, syllabus code and tier early and confirms where papers will be sat. Cambridge 0580 and Edexcel 4MA1 look alike on the surface but differ in layout, so the matching of past papers to the right board saves real time.

IGCSE Mathematics 0580

Core / Extended

Extended students practise no-calculator speed while showing full working, since method marks depend on it.

IGCSE Additional Mathematics 0606

Grade 10

Calculus, functions and trigonometric identities come a year or two earlier than in the board syllabus, preparing students for IB Maths AA.

Edexcel IGCSE Mathematics A 4MA1

Foundation / Higher

Question phrasing and ordering are distinct from Cambridge, so practice comes from this board's own papers.

IGCSE Physics 0625

Core / Extended

Electricity and waves carry many marks, and the alternative-to-practical paper is trained as a separate skill.

IGCSE Chemistry 0620

Core / Extended

Mole calculations are built up until automatic, and organic topics are tied back to earlier ideas.

IGCSE Biology 0610

Core / Extended

Genetics, transport and ecosystems dominate marks, and long answers are marked for clarity and structure.

IGCSE Economics 0455

Grade 9-10

Accurate diagrams secure early marks, and the closing evaluation question separates top grades.

IGCSE Computer Science 0478

Grade 9-10

Trace tables and Python practised on new problems rather than memorised ones.

IGCSE English First Language 0500

Grade 9-10

Summary and directed writing need technique beyond reading widely.

IGCSE Business Studies 0450

Grade 9-10

Applying theory to a case beats recalling definitions.

IGCSE Hindi as a Second Language

Grade 9-10

A sensible language choice for students comfortable in Hindi, with support on writing and listening tasks.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around Tezpur school timetables

A Tezpur family can choose how intense the help should be, from a calm weekly class to an exam-season sprint. Every option is live, one to one and on video.

One-to-one online home tuition

Lessons happen over video with a shared whiteboard, on a fixed day each week, and your child stays in their own room. Home tuition's quiet and privacy remain, minus any travelling for anyone.

  • A specialist from anywhere in India for your exact course
  • Suits IB DP, MYP and Cambridge or Edexcel IGCSE
  • Worked solutions and past papers shown on screen
  • The same tutor continues unless you request a swap

Regular plan with lesson notes

Classes once or twice a week through the year, each followed by a short written note, with a review of goals every few weeks so you always know where things stand.

  • A note after each lesson
  • Periodic reviews of progress and targets
  • Good for MYP and first-year Diploma students
  • An extra weekly slot is easy to add near mocks

Exam-season revision

A concentrated run of sessions before mocks or the exams, working through timed papers with quick feedback, planned around Bihu, Durga Puja and the school's own holidays.

  • Timed papers marked to current criteria
  • Feedback returned within days
  • Scheduled around festivals and flood weeks
  • Most effective two to three weeks before the window opens

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Tezpur

01

Which Tezpur families look for IB and IGCSE tutoring?

  • No local IB or Cambridge school is confirmed
  • Defence postings make portable syllabuses attractive
  • University faculty families think about study abroad early
  • Boarding aspirants need entry and first-year preparation

Tezpur is a town of universities, colleges and a large defence presence, and its questions about the IB and IGCSE come from households with a reason. Since we could confirm no IB or Cambridge school in the town, the demand is about continuity and preparation and not about supplementing a local classroom.

Defence families are the most visible group. The army and air force stations in and around Tezpur mean children arrive from postings in other states and sometimes other countries, and some have already studied an international syllabus. A tutor who carries the course from one posting to the next gives the child stability.

University households are the second group. Faculty at Tezpur University and the colleges come from all over India, and some have lived abroad, so they understand how a child's qualification travels. They ask about IGCSE and the Diploma as a route toward study overseas.

A third, smaller group is tea-estate and business families, often with long-term plans to send a child to a boarding school in Kolkata, Dehradun or further afield. Preparation for entry tests and for the first year at such a school is a steady reason for tutoring.

02

Is there an IB or Cambridge school in Tezpur?

  • No IB World School is confirmed in Tezpur or Sonitpur
  • Guwahati has one school with a confirmed Cambridge link
  • Kolkata offers a wider choice for boarders
  • The syllabus and exams are identical wherever studied

Not one that we could confirm. School lists for Sonitpur show schools affiliated to the Assam board, CBSE and ICSE, but none is listed as an authorised IB World School or a Cambridge International centre. If this changes, the page will be updated.

For Assam as a whole the picture is thin. The nearest place with a confirmed Cambridge link is Guwahati, which has one such school and no IB Diploma option that we can confirm, while broader choices lie in Kolkata and beyond. For most Tezpur families that means boarding or relocation.

We mention this frankly because some tutoring sites suggest a thriving local IB community in every city. If your child is not yet in an IB or IGCSE school, the sensible order is to choose the school or private route first, then build tutoring around that specific course.

Location does not alter the course. A Tezpur student follows the same syllabus, is marked the same way and sits the same exam series as a candidate in Mumbai or London, so the tutor can be anywhere.

How do the Assam board and CBSE compare with IB and IGCSE?

  • IB and IGCSE ask for application and explanation
  • Internal work is marked on criteria
  • HL goes beyond Class 12 in some topics
  • Assamese and Hindi remain available as language subjects

The Assam board examinations at HSLC and HS level, like CBSE, reward accurate recall in a recognised format. The IB and IGCSE ask a student to handle a problem they have not met, explain why the method works and judge how far the conclusion holds. A Tezpur student with strong board marks usually has the knowledge but has to learn this different style of answer.

A second difference is coursework. Assam board and CBSE pupils do some practicals and projects, yet the IB layers on Internal Assessments plus an Extended Essay graded against public criteria, and numerous IGCSE subjects bring coursework or practical papers of their own. Planning these early beats a last-week scramble.

Depth varies by level. IGCSE Core is close to Class 10, IGCSE Extended goes above it, and IB Higher Level mathematics and sciences reach beyond the board's Class 12 in several topics. A student who switches at Class 11 should expect to fill a handful of targeted gaps.

Languages are not lost. Assamese and Hindi can be taken as language subjects in both programmes, so students keep a strength they already have and earn a grade for it.

04

What decides the cost of an IB or IGCSE tutor in Tezpur?

  • Level, subject scarcity and lesson pattern shape the rate
  • Current syllabus experience is worth paying for
  • No travel charge in online lessons
  • Rates are given in writing first

Programme and level come first. A Higher Level Diploma science needs a more experienced tutor than Class 7 MYP mathematics, and the rate reflects that. Scarcity of the subject follows: experienced IB Physics and Chemistry tutors are fewer than general English tutors.

Lesson pattern comes next. Weekly hours, two shorter classes or a revision block of several sessions per week produce different monthly totals. The right pattern depends on the child's age and on how near the exam is, and not only on budget.

Recent experience with the exact specification matters most of all. A tutor who has just taught the current syllabus and marked to its criteria spends less time working out what the examiner wants, and that saved time is worth more than a lower hourly figure.

Online lessons carry no travel charge, so Napaam, Mission Charali and a tea estate near Balipara all pay the same rate. Rates are written out before booking, and nothing is owed after the free first lesson unless you choose to continue.

05

Online tuition, local coaching and self-study: how do they compare in Tezpur?

  • Local coaching centres serve board and entrance exams
  • Private tutors rarely know the IB or IGCSE course
  • Self-study lacks marked feedback
  • Online tutors are matched to the syllabus

Tezpur has a lively tuition culture, from school-subject classes to JEE, NEET and other entrance coaching. Those batches follow one syllabus and one exam, and no class in the town is designed for IB Chemistry HL or IGCSE Additional Mathematics.

Neighbourhood tutors are easy to find and good at keeping homework moving. Far fewer have taught the live IB or Cambridge specification, and that gap appears in command terms, in how internal assessment is marked and in picking a tier, all of which belong to these courses alone.

Self-study suits a disciplined student with plenty of past papers, for example in IGCSE Mathematics. It is weaker where someone else's eye is needed, such as an Internal Assessment plan or a long written answer, because a student cannot mark their own reasoning objectively.

An online specialist gives one-to-one attention from a teacher who has taught the exact course. A student in Bhomoraguri gets the same access as one in Mission Charali, and the parent receives a short note after every lesson.

Floods, Bihu and early dark: how does Tezpur's year affect study?

  • Floods can interrupt power and connectivity, so backup times help
  • Early winter sunsets favour morning and early afternoon weekend study
  • Bihu and Durga Puja need planned buffers
  • Mocks in February and March prepare for May

Assam's monsoon runs from June to September and the Brahmaputra and its tributaries flood in many years, with Sonitpur among the affected districts. Online lessons can continue when roads are blocked, but power and connectivity can be lost, so important sessions get a backup time.

Winters are mild, with lows around 13 degrees Celsius, but the sun sets very early because of Assam's position in the east, often by about four-thirty in December. Many families therefore study in the morning and early afternoon at weekends and keep weekday lessons short in the evening.

Bihu sets the festival calendar: Bohag Bihu in mid-April, Kati Bihu in October and Magh Bihu in January. Durga Puja adds a long break in autumn. Schools close for these, and a wise plan uses the quieter days around them for revision, not for new content.

For Diploma students, the May examinations arrive just after Bohag Bihu, so mock papers in February and March are key. Cambridge IGCSE candidates sit in May and June or October and November, and Edexcel adds a January window.

07

Where can a Tezpur student study after IB or IGCSE?

  • Tezpur University and Guwahati institutions are the local options
  • Equivalence and subject combinations matter for JEE and NEET
  • CUET-UG opens central university routes
  • Predicted grades are decisive for overseas applications

At home, Tezpur has Tezpur University, Darrang College and Tezpur Medical College, and Guwahati offers IIT Guwahati, Gauhati University and Cotton University. IB and IGCSE students can apply to Indian universities if the qualification is recognised through the Association of Indian Universities.

Aspiring engineers and doctors should check what JEE Main and NEET demand in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics or Biology, and pick Class 11 subjects with that list beside them. Many central universities, meanwhile, take CUET-UG scores for entry.

Abroad, offers are built on predicted grades issued in the autumn of the last year. UK universities name an IB point total with specific subject levels, while IGCSE results feed into the school record used by institutions in Canada and Australia.

A tutor's role is narrow: teach the subject, raise the predicted grade and sharpen exam technique. The family handles applications and admissions decisions, and tutors will say candidly what a course generally requires.

08

IB Maths and sciences for Tezpur students

  • AA suits calculus and proof, AI suits modelling
  • HL sciences need a strong investigation
  • Biology rewards exact command-term answers
  • Board students usually need help with evaluation

Analysis and Approaches, built around calculus and proof, is the usual pick for a future engineer, physicist or economist, and its HL Paper 3 sets lengthy problems the student has not seen before. Applications and Interpretation leans on statistics and technology, which fits someone eyeing business, biology or the social sciences.

Success in Physics HL depends on fluent use of the data booklet and a coherent investigation. In Chemistry HL, year two shifts towards organic chemistry and energetics, so gaps from the quantitative topics learnt earlier tend to resurface at that point.

Biology marks are lost more often through misreading the command term than through missing facts, and investigations need enough statistics to justify the conclusion. Board students arrive with strong recall and usually need help with evaluation.

No school in Tezpur teaches these at Higher Level, so a tutor matched on level and current specification, working from anywhere in India, closes gaps faster than a generalist.

09

Choosing IGCSE tiers and subjects from Tezpur

  • Core caps grades lower than Extended
  • 0606 is a strong bridge to IB Maths AA HL
  • Practice from the correct board's papers
  • Confirm an exam centre well ahead as a private candidate

Few families get proper guidance on Core versus Extended. Core papers limit the top grade available, whereas Extended is the normal stepping stone towards Higher Level mathematics and sciences in the IB, so this early decision affects what comes later.

Extended Mathematics 0580 with Additional Mathematics 0606 is the strongest preparation for Analysis and Approaches HL, and Extended sciences do the same for their IB counterparts. Core suits a student who wants a secure pass and a wider set of subjects.

Edexcel sets Foundation and Higher tiers and arranges its questions in a different order from Cambridge, which is why we look for a tutor who has handled its papers. Decide on the board first, then buy books and past papers.

A candidate sitting without a school needs an approved exam centre and must be entered many months ahead of the series. Tutors can help sketch a revision timetable; confirming the entry itself is the family's task, and the earlier the better.

Where we tutor

Tezpur and nearby areas where our online IB and IGCSE tutors reach students

Since every lesson is online, these places describe schooling and daily rhythm and not travel time. Tezpur stretches along the river from the old town to the university, and a household's day depends on the ferry, the bridge and school timing.

Mission Charali

A central residential and commercial area, with long-established schools and a strong evening tuition habit.

Chitralekha Udyan area

The riverfront park area near the old town, where several families with roots in the town's older quarters live.

Da Parbatia

Named for the ruins of a sixth-century temple, it sits on the town's outskirts, and families there value online lessons that avoid evening traffic.

Napaam

The area around Tezpur University, home to faculty and staff families with links to universities across India and abroad.

Bamuni Hills

A quieter residential stretch with a mix of government employees and retired families.

Cantonment and air base area

Defence households move often, which makes a portable syllabus and a tutor who follows the child between postings valuable.

Bhomoraguri

A locality on the river side known for the bridge to the south bank, used by families with links in Nagaon.

Dhekiajuli

A town in Sonitpur district with its own schools, where families look to Tezpur for wider subject choice.

Balipara

A tea-belt settlement towards the foothills, with estate families who plan education carefully because of distance.

Rangapara

A railway and trading town in the district, where online lessons remove a long commute after school.

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Tezpur: your questions answered

Does Tezpur have a school that teaches IB or IGCSE?+

We could not confirm one. Schools in Tezpur and Sonitpur follow the Assam board, CBSE or ICSE, and none appears as an IB World School or a Cambridge centre. Guwahati has one school with a Cambridge link and Kolkata offers more choice. If a local school starts either programme, we will update this page.

Will a tutor visit our home in Tezpur?+

No, and we say so plainly. Visits to the house happen only in Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR. Tezpur lessons are online and one to one, with video and a shared whiteboard, so your child sits at their own desk at home and the tutor appears on the screen.

How do we get matched with a tutor?+

Tell us the board or programme, the subject, the level, the latest grade and the evenings that suit you, through WhatsApp on +91 7439 368 115 or by email to support@ibgram.com. A shortlist comes back of people who have taught that course, and one of them gives your child a free trial class.

What does tuition cost for a Tezpur family?+

Price follows the course, the level, the subject, how long each class runs and how recently the tutor has taught that specification. No fixed list is published. A written quote reaches you before any booking, distance adds nothing because the lessons are online, and the trial class is free.

Is there a free trial lesson?+

Yes, every match begins with one. Your child takes a complete lesson on real content from the syllabus, and you receive a short written note afterwards. If it is not a good fit, we offer another tutor or stop, and you owe nothing for the trial.

Can a tutor write my child's Internal Assessment?+

Never. Internal Assessments, Extended Essays, TOK essays and coursework remain the student's own. A tutor may explain what the criteria reward, help narrow a research question, react to an outline and mark practice answers, but the submitted text is written entirely by the student.

Which Diploma subjects do you cover for Tezpur students?+

Demand is steadiest for both Maths courses, the three sciences, Economics, Business Management, English A and Computer Science, with Assamese B and Hindi B on the language side. A rarer subject is worth asking about; we check that a suitable tutor exists before anyone commits.

Can you help younger students too?+

Yes, younger learners are matched just as carefully. In the MYP the work is usually writing to the four criteria and pacing the Personal Project; in the PYP it is reading, number sense and questioning. Short, regular classes suit younger children best.

Do you cover both Cambridge and Edexcel IGCSE?+

Both, matched by board, syllabus code and tier: Cambridge 0580 Extended, say, or Edexcel 4MA1 Higher. Their papers are worded differently, so practice comes from the correct board, and the first call covers whether Core or Extended, Foundation or Higher suits the student.

We move with a defence posting. Can the tutor continue through moves?+

Yes. Because lessons are online, the same tutor can continue when a family relocates, provided the time slot still works. That continuity matters most for Diploma and IGCSE courses, where a change of tutor mid-syllabus can cost weeks of catching up.

Is moving from the Assam board or CBSE to IGCSE realistic?+

Yes, provided the first weeks go to technique. Most of the content overlaps with what a board student knows, but IGCSE marks method, command words and reasoning on unfamiliar questions. Tutors spend early sessions on those habits and on helping the family pick a tier.

What if the floods or a power cut interrupt a lesson?+

A broken session is rebooked. When electricity or the network drops, the tutor carries on by phone if feasible, and otherwise the lesson is shifted to a new slot. In the rainy months, pencil in a spare time for key classes and keep a laptop charged with a hotspot ready.

      How are tutors vetted?+

Qualifications come first, then evidence of teaching that very subject and level in recent years, then a short live explanation of a real topic so we can hear how they teach. Families see the background before choosing, and the trial class shows the teaching style first-hand.

      When should tutoring start?+

Ideally at the start of the course: Grade 9 for IGCSE, Class 11 for the Diploma. That gives months to build habits before anything is graded. Joining two or three months before a mock still helps a great deal, and the tutor will set goals that fit the time left.

Can lessons be timed around Bihu, Durga Puja and early sunsets?+

Yes. Lessons are placed around Bohag, Kati and Magh Bihu, Durga Puja and your child's school timetable. In winter, sessions can move to the morning or early afternoon at weekends to make use of daylight. We suggest spare weeks before exams.

Is IB Gram connected to any school or exam board?+

Not at all. The service stands on its own, apart from the International Baccalaureate Organization, Cambridge Assessment International Education, Pearson Edexcel and every school mentioned in these pages. Places like Guwahati and Kolkata are named only so that Assam families can see what lies within reach.
