IB and IGCSE Tutors and Online Home Tuition in Tenu dam-cum-Kathhara

In the coalfield township around the Tenughat dam, IB and IGCSE home tuition means a private tutor teaching your child over live video while they sit at their own desk. This page is for Tenu dam-cum-Kathhara (also called Tenughat) in Bokaro district. No tutor travels to your quarters or house here, since in-person visits run only in Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR, and your first class is a free trial.

  • Plain-language notes after every lesson, readable by a parent who has never seen an IB syllabus
  • All lessons are online at Tenughat; tutors never visit homes, and in-person tuition exists only in Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR
  • A trial lesson at no charge, so the decision is made on what you see
  • A tutor who has handled your child's specific IB paper or IGCSE code, not a generalist who covers any subject

IB & IGCSE in Tenu dam-cum-Kathhara

IB and IGCSE tutors for Tenu dam-cum-Kathhara, the coalfield township beside the Tenughat dam

Tenu dam-cum-Kathhara is a census town in Gomia block of Bermo subdivision, Bokaro district, and the 2011 census counted 22,080 people there. It takes its name from the Tenughat dam, an earthfill structure about 55 metres high that was inaugurated in 1973 on the Damodar river, and from the Kathara colliery area of Central Coalfields Limited. Bokaro Steel City, the Bokaro thermal power station and the Tenughat power station are all nearby, which makes this a town shaped by public-sector employment.

Schools in the area follow the Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC) and CBSE, and the census lists about 21 primary, 10 middle and 9 secondary or senior-secondary schools plus one general degree college. We found no school here that teaches the IB or a Cambridge or Edexcel IGCSE, and the nearest confirmed international campuses are in Kolkata, many hours away. A family curious about these curricula is therefore asking how to get the teaching, not which school to choose.

Many of those families work for CCL, Bokaro Steel, a power station or a contractor, and public-sector careers bring transfers between coalfields and plants. A child who has already moved once may face a school with a different board next time, which is why a portable qualification such as the IGCSE or IB appeals. Online tuition lets a student begin an international syllabus before any move happens, with a tutor who has taught it.

A word on who we are. IB Gram is an independent tutoring service with no tie to the IB, Cambridge, Pearson or any school named on this page. Our tutors teach, mark and advise. Producing or rewording a student's Internal Assessment, Extended Essay, TOK essay or coursework is something they decline every time.

At a glance

  • No tutor visits at Tenughat; in-person tuition is limited to Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR
  • One tutor, one student, live video, on Indian Standard Time

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to Tenughat school years

No school in the Tenughat area is known to teach any of the four IB programmes. In a coalfield township they reach a family through a planned transfer, a relative in a metro or abroad, or an early plan for a degree outside India, and the notes below follow those routes.

PYPAges 3-12

IB Primary Years Programme

The PYP organises learning around big themes explored through inquiry, finishing with a Grade 5 Exhibition and no formal exam. A tutor builds the groundwork: reading with ease, comfort with numbers and a knack for asking questions that can be investigated.

A Tenughat parent mentions the PYP when a posting to Ranchi, Jamshedpur or a metro could put a young child in an international primary school.

MYPAges 11-16

IB Middle Years Programme

In the MYP each subject is judged against published criteria rather than a single percentage, and a Personal Project completes the course. Tutoring helps a student explain, justify and evaluate instead of stopping at a correct answer.

A student from a Hindi-medium Class 7 or 8 in Bokaro district who enters an MYP class elsewhere gains most from English academic writing beforehand.

DPClass 11-12, ages 16-19

IB Diploma Programme

The Diploma combines six subjects, three at Higher Level, with the Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and CAS. Most written papers fall in May, and internal assessments carry a fixed share of every subject grade.

Diploma students from the Bokaro coalfield usually study in Ranchi, Kolkata or a boarding school and want a specialist in the holidays.

CPClass 11-12, ages 16-19

IB Career-related Programme

The Career-related Programme places at least two Diploma courses beside a career-focused study and a reflective project. Few Indian schools run it, so the tutoring need usually lies in the Diploma courses it contains.

CP is almost never raised in Tenughat; if it is, the practical need is teaching for the DP courses inside it.

Subject coverage

IB subjects we tutor

Students who grew up on JAC or CBSE textbooks usually bring sharp recall and weaker extended writing. So we pair by course and level first, then look at how the student expresses an argument in English. Name the paper, and we shortlist tutors who have taught it before.

IB Geography

HL / SL

Resources, hazards and change. Open-cast mining, dam building and displacement are rare, strong local case studies.

IB Environmental Systems & Societies

SL / HL

Systems thinking about water, mining land and reclaimed ground, with the Tenughat reservoir as a near example.

IB Biology

HL / SL

From cells to ecosystems, examined through command terms. The Damodar basin offers real material for ecology investigations.

IB English A Language & Literature

HL / SL

Reading unseen texts, comparing works and speaking in an oral. Hindi and Bengali speakers polish a formal written register.

Theory of Knowledge (TOK)

DP Core

Talk-based sessions on how knowledge is built, leading into the exhibition and the essay.

IB Psychology

HL / SL

Biological, cognitive and sociocultural approaches, written up as structured extended answers.

IB Chemistry

HL / SL

Bonding, kinetics, equilibrium and organic reactions. Coal chemistry and combustion give vivid examples for energetics.

IB Economics

HL / SL

Markets, policy and development, with live examples such as coal pricing, public-sector employment and regional inequality.

IB Computer Science

HL / SL

Algorithms, programming and databases, plus a solution project that rewards a steady weekly routine.

IB Business Management

HL / SL

Theory applied to cases, helpful for families linked to contractors, transport and small suppliers around the collieries.

IB Maths Applications & Interpretation

HL / SL

Probability, statistics and modelling with a graphic calculator. Marks follow from saying what a result means, not only from producing it.

IB Bengali B

SL / HL

For Bermo-side students with Bengali at home who want examined reading, writing and speaking.

IB Maths Analysis & Approaches

HL / SL

The route for future engineers and physical scientists: calculus, vectors, functions and proof. At HL, Paper 3 rewards staying power on problems the student has never met.

IB Physics

HL / SL

Mechanics through to nuclear physics and a self-designed investigation. Power-station and dam surroundings make thermal and hydro energy topics feel concrete.

IB Hindi A or B

HL / SL

Home language for most Tenughat students, so the work is on text types, literary analysis and the individual oral.

IGCSE coverage

IGCSE subjects we tutor

Two bodies award IGCSEs in India, Cambridge (CAIE) and Pearson Edexcel, and their syllabus codes, tiers and papers are not interchangeable. We confirm the board and the sitting before drawing up a plan: Cambridge examines in March, May-June and October-November, Edexcel in January, May-June and October.

IGCSE Chemistry 0620

Core / Extended

Moles, bonding, reaction rates and organic chemistry, along with planning an experiment on paper.

IGCSE Mathematics 0580

Core / Extended

Number, algebra, geometry, trigonometry and statistics. The Extended tier is the usual launch pad for science and IB Maths.

IGCSE Economics 0455

Grade 9-10

Basic economic ideas, then data response and evaluation.

IGCSE English as a Second Language 0510

Core / Extended

A recognised English certificate for Hindi-medium students heading to A Level or the IB.

IGCSE Geography 0460

Grade 9-10

Physical and human geography, with mining, rivers and settlement as local illustrations.

Edexcel IGCSE Mathematics A 4MA1

Foundation / Higher

Phrased and structured unlike the Cambridge paper, so only Edexcel past papers are used.

IGCSE Physics 0625

Core / Extended

Forces, heat, waves, electricity and atoms, with a paper on practical skills.

IGCSE Additional Mathematics 0606

Grade 10

Calculus and deeper algebra, a natural lead-in to IB Maths AA.

IGCSE Computer Science 0478

Grade 9-10

Computational thinking, binary, networks and short programs.

IGCSE Biology 0610

Core / Extended

Cells, inheritance, ecology and human physiology, written in the structure examiners reward.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around Tenughat school timetables

Tenughat gets one kind of lesson, live on video with a single tutor, offered at three tempos. Visits to the house are not part of what we do here; they exist only in Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR.

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Tenu dam-cum-Kathhara

01

Coal, power and transfers: why Tenughat families ask about the IB

  • Students aiming at universities overseas
  • Children who need stronger English-medium habits
  • Public-sector families who expect a transfer
  • Households with relatives in metros or abroad

Life in this part of Bokaro district runs on public-sector rhythms. CCL's Kathara collieries and washeries, the Tenughat and Bokaro power stations and the steel plant employ thousands, and careers in those bodies move people between Dhanbad, Ramgarh, Ranchi, Singrauli and distant plants. Colony schools and DAV or Kendriya Vidyalaya networks give some continuity, but a posting to a new state can still force a child to start again.

That experience is why some parents begin to ask about an international qualification. The IGCSE and IB are examined the same way in Kolkata, Bengaluru or Dubai, so a child who has begun them can carry the work from one city to the next. Others ask because a relative works abroad, or because a bright student is thinking of a university in the UK, Canada or Australia.

Since no school in the Tenughat area teaches either programme, the choices are to relocate, to board, or to study privately. Private study means following an IGCSE syllabus with a tutor and entering exams as an outside candidate, or preparing IB subjects for a planned transfer.

A limit has to be stated. An IB Diploma requires a registered school, and a tutor cannot supply a laboratory or classmates. What a tutor can supply is subject depth, exam technique and confidence in English.

02

JAC, CBSE, IGCSE or IB: which board suits a Tenughat student?

The Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC) sets the matriculation and intermediate papers, normally in February and March, and its syllabus leans on NCERT books. CBSE offers a national pattern tied to JEE and NEET. The IGCSE and IB, by contrast, are set abroad and reward written reasoning, practical skill and a wider choice of subjects.

An IGCSE is a two-year course spanning Classes 9 and 10, taken subject by subject at one of two tiers. The IB Diploma is a two-year pre-university programme of six subjects plus the Extended Essay and TOK. Many students complete the IGCSE first and then pick between the IB, A Level and Indian Class 11.

Where the child is likely to live next is the deciding factor. If the plan is to stay in Jharkhand, JAC and CBSE lead most directly to state and national entrance tests. If the plan includes a posting to another state or a degree overseas, an international qualification starts to repay the effort.

Private lessons also let a child test an international subject without leaving the present school, so the family decides on evidence.

What goes into the fee for IB or IGCSE tuition at Tenughat?

  • Subject and level
  • Months left before the exam
  • Lessons per week
  • Tutor experience with the syllabus

There is no rate card on this page. After the free trial a written quote reaches you, built around your child's course, so the figure you weigh is a real one.

Four things shape the quote: the subject and level, the number of lessons each week, how long the tutor has taught that syllabus, and how many months remain before the exam. A Higher Level science with a veteran tutor costs more than IGCSE Business at Core.

Teaching online removes costs that a Tenughat family would otherwise carry for coaching in Bokaro Steel City or Ranchi: fuel or fares, time on the road and sometimes a night away. It also opens a tutor pool that covers the whole country.

Use the trial as your test. Does the tutor find the real gap, explain it plainly and set work that makes sense? If not, we put another tutor in front of you.

04

Is a Bokaro Steel City coaching class a substitute for online IB and IGCSE tuition?

Bokaro Steel City and Ranchi have busy coaching markets, aimed mostly at board exams, JEE, NEET and competitive tests. We know of none built around IB or IGCSE marking, so a class there delivers content but not the way examiners award credit.

A tutor down the lane may be excellent at school subjects and still unsure how IB markers split method marks or how an Extended IGCSE question is phrased. Self-study works for a disciplined student, but the same errors survive when nobody reviews the answers.

A video class with a tutor who knows the syllabus saves the journey. It does depend on electricity and broadband, which monsoon storms and colliery-area outages can disturb, so a mobile hotspot and a willingness to reschedule are part of the arrangement.

Most families combine methods: school and coaching for the JAC papers, one video class a week for the international subject, and past papers in between.

How do exam dates meet coalfield heat, Karma and Chhath in Tenughat?

IB Diploma written exams run mainly in May, with results in July. Cambridge IGCSE sits in March, May-June and October-November in India, and Edexcel in January, May-June and October. The school or exam centre decides the window.

The Chota Nagpur plateau has marked seasons. April to June is hot, with coal-dust haze around the collieries, and heavy monsoon rain from June to September can flood roads and cut power. The Tenughat area gets about 1,290 mm of rain a year, and winters are mild and dry.

Festivals shape the year. Sarhul in spring and Karma in the monsoon are major tribal festivals across Jharkhand, and Durga Puja, Chhath, Diwali and Holi all bring family time and travel. We avoid hard revision on those days.

From the exam date we plan back: a diagnostic, a teaching phase, a past-paper phase and a closing review. Classes lost to weather or shift changes are moved, not dropped.

06

Where can a Tenughat IB or IGCSE student study afterwards?

For a degree in India, an IB Diploma normally has to be matched with Association of Indian Universities equivalence, and many universities admit through CUET-UG, so the subjects taken must fit the course. JEE Main and counselling rules are revised often, so always work from the latest brochure.

Medicine through NEET-UG requires Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English at senior-secondary level. Jharkhand seats can depend on domicile, and IB or A Level applicants must also produce equivalence certificates.

Locally, students think of IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, BIT Mesra in Ranchi, NIT Jamshedpur and the universities in Hazaribagh and Ranchi, besides Kolkata and Delhi. Further out lie the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, Germany and Singapore.

After an IGCSE the choices are A Level, the IB Diploma and Class 11, and the subjects kept at Class 10 influence what stays open. Tutors explain the links but cannot promise a seat.

07

IB Maths and the sciences: what good preparation involves

IB Maths comes as two courses, each at HL or SL: Analysis and Approaches, built on algebra, calculus and proof, and Applications and Interpretation, built on data and modelling. One diagnostic class normally shows which suits the student.

JAC and CBSE students are often quick and tidy. The IB also expects justification and interpretation, so lessons include reasoning written out in full sentences and a timed paper every two weeks.

In each science the Internal Assessment is an investigation the student runs alone. A tutor can help choose a workable question, organise data and judge an evaluation, but writes nothing in the report. Where laboratory access is thin, simulations and public datasets stand in.

Chemistry and Biology pay for the exact word, so tutors rehearse the phrasing that mark schemes look for.

08

Choosing IGCSE tiers and subjects in Tenughat

  • Plan lessons around the exam series
  • Confirm the exam centre early
  • Run a diagnostic before choosing a tier
  • Match subjects to the likely stream

Many IGCSE subjects come at two tiers: Core and Extended with Cambridge, Foundation and Higher with Edexcel. The lower tier puts a ceiling on the grade, while the upper tier keeps every grade open and prepares for A Level or IB Higher Level.

A diagnostic class early on settles the tier. Extended Mathematics beside Core English is a perfectly ordinary pairing.

Subjects follow the destination. Would-be engineers take Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, often adding Additional Mathematics; commerce-minded students take Economics and Business Studies; Computer Science points towards technical careers.

Outside candidates enter through an approved exam centre, often in Ranchi, Kolkata or Delhi, so fix the centre and series first and let the lessons follow the entry deadline.

Where we tutor

Tenughat neighbourhoods and nearby places we teach online

Lessons are on screen, so places matter as context: which colliery or plant a household's shifts follow, how far the nearest market town is, and where mobile data is the only connection. The Tenughat area is a string of settlements around the dam and the collieries.

Tenughat reservoir shore

Villages by the water where farming is rain-fed and internet is patchy, so lessons are paired with a data backup.

Kathara Area (CCL)

The colliery and washery area where Central Coalfields families live, with shift patterns that shape the evening.

Bokaro Steel City

The planned steel township, with the district's best-known schools and the strongest coaching market.

Bermo

The subdivision town in the coalfield, with a mix of Hindi and Bengali-speaking families and older institutions.

Swang

A neighbouring colliery locality in the Kathara belt, with coal-sector households and nearby washery work.

Jaridih Bazar

A busy market and rail locality in the district, used by families for shopping and travel.

Gomia

The block headquarters, with markets, schools and the larger local coaching habit.

Tenu township

The settlement around the dam and its offices, with quarters for power-sector and irrigation staff and a settled school-going population.

Phusro and Chas

Industrial and commercial towns close by, with more school choice and tuition centres.

Tenughat: keeping the home school

Most students remain in a JAC or CBSE school and add online IB or IGCSE subject lessons, often while a transfer is expected.

Bokaro district: local options are limited

Tenughat, Bermo and Bokaro Steel City have no confirmed international campus, so we name no local school.

We found no IB or Cambridge or Edexcel IGCSE school in the Tenughat area or in Bokaro district, so the strip above is blank. The campuses below are in Kolkata, the nearest big city with confirmed options; please check each school's present programme directly. IB Gram has no link with them or with the IB, Cambridge or Pearson.

      Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Tenu dam-cum-Kathhara: your questions answered

Can Tenughat students get IB or IGCSE teaching locally?+

We know of no local option, so lessons are online. Schools around Tenu dam-cum-Kathhara follow JAC and CBSE, and no IB or IGCSE campus is known in the area. A specialist from elsewhere in India who has taught your child's syllabus joins by video, and a shared whiteboard carries the working.

Will a transfer between coalfields disrupt an IGCSE or IB course?+

Less than it disrupts most boards. An IGCSE or IB syllabus is examined the same way in every city, so a student who has begun one can continue with the same tutor online after a move. Only the school and exam centre change. Tell us the new city and we will adjust the plan and the centre details.

Which Kolkata schools do coalfield families look at?+

Calcutta International School, RP Goenka International School and The Heritage School are the Kolkata campuses on our list. Check each school's current programme and admissions with it directly. We are not affiliated with any of them, and online tuition can bridge the months before a move.

Can an IB student appear for JEE or NEET from Jharkhand?+

Possibly, but rules change each year, so read the current official notification. NEET-UG needs Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English, and state seats may depend on domicile. JEE sets its own subject and equivalence terms. Ask the authority whether your child's IB combination qualifies before registering.

How long before the exam should lessons begin?+

About twelve months is comfortable for a Higher Level subject or for IGCSE Mathematics and the sciences. A student who knows the content but runs short of time may be ready after two months of timed papers. In the final month the aim is mending known weak spots, not learning new topics.

Cambridge or Edexcel: which IGCSE board should we pick?+

Neither is better in itself. They cover similar topics but set different papers, tiers and sittings, and the school or centre often chooses. If you are free to decide, a tutor can run a past paper from each past your child and show which feels more natural.

Can a tutor help with my IA or Extended Essay?+

A tutor coaches, and does not write. Expect help reading criteria, narrowing a research question and reacting to drafts you wrote yourself. Drafting, tidying or rewording any part of an IA, Extended Essay, TOK essay or coursework is something tutors decline, since authorship rules forbid it and the penalty falls on the student.

Can a Tenughat student take IGCSE as a private candidate?+

In many cases, yes. Approved Cambridge and Edexcel centres take outside entries, and the closest are generally in Ranchi, Kolkata or Delhi. Practical and coursework rules vary by subject, so read the syllabus first. Tutors prepare the written and alternative-to-practical papers online; entry forms and fees are the family's task.

      How do we begin?+

WhatsApp +91 7439 368 115 or email support@ibgram.com with the class, board or programme, subject, level and exam date. A tutor suggestion follows quickly, and the free trial is booked for an evening that suits your household. A laptop, a steady connection, earphones and a scientific calculator are all that is needed.

What does IB or IGCSE tuition cost for a Tenughat student?+

There is no price list. After the trial we send a written rate that depends on the subject and level, weekly hours, the tutor's depth with that syllabus and the exam date. Lessons are online, so there are no fares to Bokaro Steel City. Compare the quote with your budget, then decide.

How do monsoon rain and power cuts affect classes?+

Heavy monsoon rain between June and September can disturb power and mobile data around the collieries and the reservoir. Keep a charged laptop, a mobile hotspot and one free weekly slot. A missed class is moved to another day, and the tutor sends practice questions so work continues.

Is a Tenu dam-cum-Kathhara student also Tenughat or Kathara?+

Yes, the area is called by all three names: Tenu dam-cum-Kathhara on the census, Tenughat after the dam and Kathara after the CCL colliery area. This page covers the same Gomia block settlement under every spelling. Our teaching is online, so the name used does not affect tutor matching.

Does anyone visit homes or quarters at Tenughat for tuition?+

No. Nobody comes to a house or colony quarter at Tenughat, because lessons in person run only in Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR. We provide private home tuition online: the student at their own desk, the tutor on screen, a digital board between them. A laptop and a dependable connection are needed, and in return you can choose from tutors across India.

Does IGCSE count for admission in Jharkhand?+

IGCSE sits at Class 10 level, so students usually continue to Class 11, A Level or the IB before applying for a degree. Each university sets its own admission and equivalence rules. Tutors can show how subject choices keep doors open but cannot confirm admission or eligibility.

Do you teach PYP and MYP students from Tenughat?+

Yes, on request. With younger children we build fluent reading, number sense and the habit of framing a question for the Exhibition. With middle-years students we practise criterion-based writing, lay out mathematical reasoning and plan the Personal Project. No local school runs these programmes, so plans follow a move or an online enrolment.
