IB & IGCSE in Siwan

IB and IGCSE tutors in Siwan: what is available and who needs it

Siwan sits in the north-west of Bihar, close to the Uttar Pradesh border, and it is best known in India as the district of Dr Rajendra Prasad, the country's first President, whose home village of Ziradei lies within it. Schools in town follow the Bihar School Examination Board or CBSE. After checking, we could not confirm any school in Siwan that teaches the IB or a Cambridge or Edexcel IGCSE, and we will not name one we cannot verify.

The families who write to us are usually not looking for a change of school. They are looking for a way to keep options open. Many households in the region have members working in other Indian states or abroad, and some parents want a child to be able to move to an international school, or to a university overseas, without a struggle at the join. Others are simply curious about a style of learning that rewards explanation rather than recall.

Distance is the practical problem. The nearest school we could confirm as teaching IGCSE is in Danapur, on the western side of Patna, and IB campuses are further still, in Kolkata and Delhi NCR. Moving a child there for a year of catch-up is a big decision. Online tutoring lets a student prepare from home first, and decide later.

IB Gram teaches Siwan students live over video. Tutors are in India, use Indian time, and work one-to-one. We are independent, with no link to a school, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson, and we say clearly that tutors do not visit homes in Siwan.

At a glance

  • IB PYP, MYP and DP subjects taught by tutors who know the course
  • Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel IGCSE, including private-candidate entry
  • Everything is online; nobody visits homes in Siwan
  • Free trial, written rate first, tutor change if the fit is wrong
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to Siwan school years

A Siwan family meets the IB as something to prepare for, more than something in the daily timetable. This is what each stage asks of a child, described so that a parent can judge how far a student is from it today.

PYPNursery to Class 5, ages 3-12

IB Primary Years Programme

Classroom work follows themes, and children research, discuss and present. A final Exhibition lets each child explore something they care about. Reading fluency, clear speech and comfort with numbers matter more than speed.

For a Siwan child whose home language is Bhojpuri or Hindi, spoken English practice through stories and simple discussion is usually the most useful preparation.

MYPClass 6 to Class 10, ages 11-16

IB Middle Years Programme

Assessment uses four criteria in every subject, and students carry out projects and reflect on them. The programme closes with a Personal Project in the final year.

A student coming from Bihar Board or CBSE classes needs to practise writing reasoned paragraphs, since one-line answers earn little under criteria marking.

DPClass 11 and 12, ages 16-19

IB Diploma Programme

Students pick six subjects and add Theory of Knowledge, an Extended Essay and service activities. External exams take place each May, and each subject also has an internal assessment marked by the school and checked by the IB.

A Siwan student who enters a Diploma school in another city will find the essay-heavy style a shock unless they have practised it beforehand.

CPClass 11 and 12, ages 16-19

IB Career-related Programme

A pathway pairing a few Diploma courses with a career-focused study and a reflective project, for students who prefer applied learning.

No Career-related cohort is known near Siwan. Families following it from a distance would draw on the same DP-level tutoring described here.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around Siwan school timetables

In Siwan there is no home-visit option and no local IB or IGCSE classroom, so the three formats below are all online, chosen according to how much of a syllabus a student must cover and by when.

Regular live lessons for one subject

One hour a week or more, on video with a shared board. The tutor reviews the last task, teaches the next topic and marks a short practice set before the following lesson.

  • Fits after school and around coaching commitments
  • A steady tutor who learns the student's habits
  • Extra sessions added before mocks and internal deadlines
  • Worked solutions and a written note after every class

Full IGCSE course for a private candidate

The tutor teaches the entire syllabus from the specification, schedules past papers and explains how to enter Cambridge or Edexcel exams through an approved centre.

  • For students whose school does not offer IGCSE
  • Cambridge exams in May-June and October-November
  • Edexcel exams in January and May-June
  • Practical alternatives explained before the course begins

Preparation before moving to an international school

A focused course before a student joins an IB or IGCSE school in Patna, Kolkata, Delhi NCR or elsewhere, covering Maths, English and a science.

  • Adapts state-board habits to criteria-based answers
  • Builds spoken and written English
  • Runs over a break, often the summer
  • Length depends on the gap to close

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Siwan

01

Bihar Board, CBSE, IGCSE or IB: which suits a child in Siwan?

Most of Siwan's students sit the Bihar School Examination Board papers in Class 10 and 12, and a smaller number attend CBSE schools. Both routes lead comfortably to Bihar and national entrance tests, and to the large coaching ecosystem in Patna, Kota and Delhi that so many Bihar families use.

IGCSE and IB differ in aim as much as in syllabus. IGCSE is a two-year subject qualification, usually finishing at Class 10 level, that trains students to explain and apply. The IB Diploma is a two-year, six-subject course that combines exams with research and reflection. Neither is built around JEE or NEET.

So the question for a Siwan family is what the child is heading towards. Someone aiming at IIT or a government medical college is usually best served by CBSE or the state route plus coaching. Someone thinking of a foreign university, or an international boarding school, gains from IGCSE or IB habits earlier.

The table lays out the main differences without ranking them. Families with mixed goals often use an online IGCSE or IB subject alongside the regular school, for one or two subjects only, to keep both doors open.

02

What are the costs behind IB or IGCSE home tuition in Siwan?

  • Subject, level, tutor experience and frequency shape the rate
  • Online delivery removes travel and premises costs
  • Rate in writing before any trial is booked
  • No lock-in; review every few weeks

It would be easy to quote a figure and hard to keep it honest, because IB and IGCSE tuition is not a single product. Cost depends on the subject, whether the student needs Higher Level or Standard Level, how experienced the tutor is, and how frequently lessons happen. We prefer to quote after a short conversation.

Because Siwan has no local pool of IB or IGCSE teachers, we bring tutors in from across India, and lessons are online. This changes the maths of the fee. A family pays for teaching, not for a travelling teacher's petrol or a rented room. The gap between a Siwan rate and a metro rate is smaller than most people expect.

The other comparison is with coaching in Patna or Kota, which many Bihar families know well. Those fees buy shared time with a large group, a fixed pace and a proven route to a single entrance test. A private IB or IGCSE lesson buys full attention on an unrelated set of papers, so the hourly number is not directly comparable.

We give the rate in writing before the free trial and there is no long lock-in. Plans are reviewed every few weeks, and a family can pause for Chhath, the flood season or exams without penalty.

03

How does an online tutor compare with coaching in Patna, a local tutor or self-study?

For students in Saran division the default has long been to send children to Patna, Kota or Delhi for coaching. That model is expensive and disruptive, and it is designed for entrance tests. It rarely offers a teacher who has marked IGCSE papers or supervised an IB Extended Essay.

A local tutor is a good choice for school work. Many Siwan teachers are experienced and dedicated, and children benefit from them. The gap appears only when the syllabus is unfamiliar, because a teacher cannot easily coach a mark scheme they have never used.

Self-study is possible and cheap, since Cambridge and Edexcel publish past papers freely. It needs feedback. Without someone marking the work and explaining errors, a student can rehearse the wrong method for a whole year and find out in the exam.

An online one-to-one lesson brings a specialist to the home with no travel and no relocation. It needs a laptop, a steady connection and a quiet corner, and it can be fitted around school and around any coaching the child already attends.

04

When should lessons pause: Chhath, floods and Bihar Board exams?

The Bihar school year begins in April for many schools, with board exams in February and March, and results shaping the summer. Siwan's calendar is unusually shaped by festivals and by the rivers around it, so a good study plan places lessons where they will actually happen.

Chhath, held in October or November, is the great pause. Preparations start days ahead and families travel home from other states, so many households prefer no lessons for about a week. Durga Puja and Diwali bring shorter gaps. Holi in March often clashes with board exam revision, so students preparing for both should plan ahead.

The monsoon, from June to September, can bring flooding to parts of the Ghaghara and Gandak plains. Power cuts and disrupted roads are possible. A lesson lost to an outage is moved, and we keep spare slots in each week so a missed session is not simply lost.

International exams have fixed dates that do not move for Siwan festivals. Cambridge runs in May-June and October-November, and Edexcel in January and May-June. IB Diploma exams start in early May. The calendar below lines these up with local events.

A Siwan study calendar

05

What lies beyond IB or IGCSE for a student from Siwan?

  • AIU treats the IB Diploma as Class 12 equivalent
  • CUET-UG opens central universities; private universities set their own rules
  • JEE Main and NEET-UG conditions should be checked every year
  • Overseas applications need predicted grades and references

In India, the Association of Indian Universities treats the IB Diploma as equivalent to Class 12. That opens doors at universities that accept it, and central universities ask for a CUET-UG score. Private universities in Patna, Delhi and elsewhere set their own conditions, which are best checked with each institution.

Students who want engineering usually consider Patna, with NIT Patna and IIT Patna as reference points, along with institutes further afield. Entry to the national institutes depends on JEE Main and subject rules that shift from year to year, so an IB student should verify current eligibility before finalising subjects.

For medicine, NEET-UG expects Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English with prescribed marks. IB students who want a medical seat should keep Chemistry and Biology in their six subjects, and confirm the current rules with the National Testing Agency each year.

Abroad, IB and A-Level results are widely recognised, and many Bihar families have relatives in the Gulf, the UK or North America who can advise. A student's predicted grades, teacher references and English proficiency tests matter, and a private candidate needs to plan for those early.

06

IB Maths and sciences: what trips up Diploma students?

The first choice is between Analysis and Approaches and Applications and Interpretation. AA is the more algebraic route, expected by many engineering and pure-science degrees. AI is statistics and modelling with a calculator, and suits business, psychology and social science. A student who chooses wrongly usually notices by the end of term one.

Physics trips people up on explanation. A student may get the right number but lose marks for missing units, ignoring uncertainty or failing to state an assumption. Chemistry asks students to use the data booklet accurately, and Biology needs structured, evidence-based paragraphs.

Mathematics at HL includes Paper 3, with long problems that do not resemble textbook exercises. Students used to fast drill find these slow at first. Regular practice on unfamiliar questions is the most reliable cure.

The Internal Assessment counts toward the final grade in every subject. It must be the student's own work. A tutor explains the marking criteria, questions a plan and discusses how to present results, but does not write or edit. Starting in the first term, with a small idea, gives time to improve.

07

Can a student in Siwan take IGCSE without a school offering it?

Yes. Private candidates do it every year, and it takes planning more than genius. The central issue is the exam centre. Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel papers are sat at approved centres, and the nearest to Siwan may be in Patna or a larger city. Confirm the centre and its deadlines well ahead.

Practicals come next. Where a syllabus has a hands-on paper, a private candidate may struggle to find a lab, but many syllabuses offer a written alternative-to-practical paper. A tutor can prepare a student for it thoroughly using real experimental data on screen.

Choose subjects sensibly. English and Mathematics anchor most plans, with one or two sciences and perhaps a language such as Hindi. Extended tier is the route to the top grades, and Core caps the mark, so a student aiming high should prepare for Extended from the start.

A younger student can start with a single subject in Class 8 or 9. Mathematics is a popular first choice, because the skills carry into any later route, including the Bihar Board, CBSE or IB.

Where we tutor

Siwan neighbourhoods and nearby blocks we teach online

Everything happens on a screen, so where you live affects only timing and connectivity. These are the parts of Siwan and its surroundings that families mention most often.

Pachrukhi Road

A main road out of town toward the north-west, with a mix of school-going families and small businesses that keep evenings busy.

Station Road and Siwan Junction

The railway-linked core of town, convenient for families who travel to Patna or Gorakhpur and value flexible evening slots.

Maharajganj Road

Residential streets towards Maharajganj, where families often pair local school with evening study at home.

Gopalganj Road

The approach towards Gopalganj, with newer housing and households that send children to coaching in Patna or Kota after Class 10.

Dargah Road and Mairwa side

Older neighbourhoods with long-established families and a steady demand for reliable school-year tuition.

Ziradei and Jiradei side

The area around the village associated with Dr Rajendra Prasad, whose families increasingly look for broader academic options.

Basantpur and Guthani direction

Blocks to the west of town, where a stable phone or broadband signal matters for online lessons.

Raghunathpur and Barharia

Semi-rural areas of the district with families who use Siwan as their nearest market and school town.

Daraunda and Hasanpura

Towns in the district where households have members working in other states or abroad, and where children often ask about studying overseas.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Siwan

Siwan and Saran division

We could not confirm an IB or Cambridge or Edexcel IGCSE school in Siwan, Gopalganj or Saran. Schools here use the Bihar Board or CBSE, so families interested in these curricula usually study privately.

    Nearby: Danapur, Patna

Roughly 130 kilometres to the east, one school in Danapur is the nearest we could confirm teaching Cambridge IGCSE at Grade 10 alongside its main CBSE stream. Local options are limited, so this is a genuine but distant choice.

    • Vidya Sanskar School

    Nearby: Kolkata

Kolkata has long-established international-curriculum schools and is reachable by train, so it matters for families considering boarding or a move.

    • Calcutta International School

    Nearby: Delhi NCR

The National Capital Region has the widest choice of IB and IGCSE schools in northern India, and many Bihar families with relatives there look at it first.

    • The British School, New Delhi
    • Pathways World School, Gurugram

The schools named here are listed only as reference points for where international curricula can be found near Bihar. IB Gram is an independent tutoring service and has no partnership, sponsorship or affiliation with any of them, with the IB organisation, with Cambridge or with Pearson.

    Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Siwan: your questions answered

Are there IB and IGCSE tutors in Siwan?+

Yes, IB Gram offers online IB and IGCSE tutors to students in Siwan. They do not live in the district or travel to homes, but teach live, one-to-one, over video. Because we could not confirm a school in Siwan teaching either curriculum, matching a specialist by syllabus and level is the realistic way for most families to get proper subject help.

Does a tutor come to my home in Siwan for IB or IGCSE home tuition?+

No. Tutors do not visit homes in Siwan, and home visits run only in Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR. Our online home tuition gives you private lessons at home instead, on a laptop, with one teacher for one student. The lesson includes a shared board, written solutions afterwards and a note to parents, with no travel involved.

Which IB or IGCSE schools are near Siwan?+

We could not confirm any inside Siwan or Saran division. The nearest confirmed IGCSE option is Vidya Sanskar School in Danapur, Patna, roughly 130 kilometres away, and IB schools are further, in Kolkata and Delhi NCR. Please check each school's own website before relying on it, as offerings can change.

How much does IB or IGCSE tuition cost in Siwan?+

The fee depends on subject, level, tutor experience and how often lessons happen, and we do not publish fixed prices. Higher Level sciences and Maths tend to cost more than IGCSE Core English, because fewer qualified specialists exist. We quote in writing before the free trial and there is no long-term contract, so a family can stop whenever it wishes.

Can a student in Siwan take IGCSE privately?+

Yes. The student studies with a tutor and registers for the exams through an approved Cambridge or Edexcel centre, which may be in Patna or another city. Practical subjects need planning, and many private candidates choose the written alternative paper. Dates and fees are set by the centre and the board, so start enquiring at least six months before the exam.

Is IGCSE easier than IB for a Bihar Board student?+

IGCSE is usually the softer landing because it is taken subject by subject and can be studied alongside school. The IB Diploma requires six subjects, an essay and internal assessments, and normally means joining an IB school. Either way, a Bihar Board student benefits from a bridge in Maths, English and one science.

Will IB or IGCSE affect my chances in JEE or NEET?+

It can, depending on the subject combination, so check the rules every year. NEET-UG expects Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English, and JEE Main lists subject conditions at Class 12 level. The AIU treats the IB Diploma as equivalent to Class 12, but the testing agency's current notice is the final word for eligibility.

Can a tutor write my IA, Extended Essay or TOK essay?+

No. Our tutors coach and do not write or edit internal assessments, Extended Essays, TOK essays or coursework. They can explain the marking criteria, challenge your method and help you plan time. What you submit must be your own, as the IB and the exam boards require, and that is what protects your result.

What do I need to join online lessons from Siwan?+

A laptop or a large tablet, a reliable internet connection and a quiet space. Power cuts and heavy rain can interrupt connections in the monsoon, so a phone hotspot and a charged device help. Lessons use a shared whiteboard, and the tutor sends worked solutions afterwards, so the student always has a record of what was covered.

What time are lessons usually held?+

Most Siwan students take lessons in the early evening after school or coaching, with longer sessions on Sundays. Tutors teach on Indian Standard Time, so there is no time-zone gap. We avoid Chhath week and shift lessons around Bihar Board exams if you tell us early, and we keep reserve slots for weather or power disruptions.

Which exam sessions apply for IGCSE?+

Cambridge holds its main series in May-June and October-November. Pearson Edexcel offers January and May-June sittings. Entry goes through an approved centre, and registration deadlines are firm. A student in Siwan should ask a centre about dates and costs at least six months ahead, since centres near Bihar can be limited in number.

    Is the first lesson free?+

Yes. The first lesson is a free trial on video with a shortlisted tutor, with no obligation. The student works on a real topic from their syllabus, and the parent can watch. Afterwards we send the fee in writing. Nothing is booked until you agree, and if the tutor does not suit, we suggest another.

Can lessons be given in Hindi?+

The international exams are written in English, so tutors teach in English, but many also speak Hindi and can explain a hard idea in Hindi first. IB Hindi B and IGCSE Hindi as a second language are also available. Tell us your preference when you write, and we will look for a tutor who suits it.

My child is in Class 6. Is it too early to begin?+

No. For Classes 6 to 8, work focuses on Maths, reading, writing and a first taste of criteria-based tasks. Sessions are shorter, often forty-five minutes, and a parent may sit in. These habits make later IGCSE or IB study easier and also help in Bihar Board and CBSE classes.

How do I start with IB Gram?+

Message us on WhatsApp at +91 7439 368 115 or email support@ibgram.com with your child's class, board or programme, subject and exam date. We reply with a suggested tutor and arrange the free trial. You get the rate in writing first, and after a few weeks we review how lessons are going and adjust the plan.

Is IB Gram connected to any school or exam board?+

No. IB Gram is independent and is not affiliated with the IB, Cambridge, Pearson or any school named here. Schools appear only to help families see where these curricula are taught. Please check each school's own information and the official IB and Cambridge directories before making a decision.

Tell us the class, the subject and the exam you have in mind. We will pair the student with a tutor who has taught that course, run a free lesson over video and put the rate in writing before anything is agreed. Patna and Delhi are a long way off, and the lesson does not need either of them.
