IB & IGCSE in Simdega

How IB and IGCSE tutoring works for a family in Simdega

Simdega is the headquarters of a district where roughly seven in ten people belong to Scheduled Tribes, where Sadri is the most common mother tongue and where mission schools have been part of education for generations. A child preparing for the IB, or for a Cambridge or Pearson Edexcel IGCSE, is rare in that setting, and the pool of specialist teachers that large cities take for granted does not exist here. IB and IGCSE tutors in Simdega therefore have to be found at a distance and taught on a screen.

Every lesson is live and one-to-one over video, with a shared whiteboard in place of the table a tutor would otherwise sit at. We call it online home tuition because the student studies from the family's own home; we do not call it a home visit, because nobody from our side travels to Simdega, Kolebira or Biru. Visits to a student's house are offered only in Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR, and adding another town to a list will not change that.

What happens inside the hour depends on the programme. A Diploma student may sit a timed Chemistry paper that is then marked line by line against the IB rubric; an IGCSE candidate may rework Extended Mathematics until the method marks are visible on the page; an MYP child may read a criterion strand beside their own draft. Tutors coach, explain and mark. They do not write Internal Assessments, Extended Essays, Theory of Knowledge essays or coursework, and that limit is stated in the first conversation.

Nothing here is connected with the International Baccalaureate, Cambridge, Pearson or any school mentioned below. IB Gram is an independent tutoring service. Schools are named only because families in Simdega ask about them once boarding or relocation enters the discussion, and the page says plainly wherever a school could not be confirmed as teaching an international syllabus.

At a glance

  • PYP, MYP, DP and CP support, plus Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel IGCSE
  • Live one-to-one lessons on IST with a shared whiteboard and past papers worked on screen
  • Online only in Simdega: no tutor visits a home here, and visits run only in Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR
  • A free trial lesson, then a written note after every session
  • Rates quoted in writing before booking, and a new tutor if the fit is wrong
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to Simdega school years

Most children in Simdega study under the Jharkhand board or CBSE, and none of the four IB programmes has a confirmed school in the district. The notes below therefore describe what each programme asks of a student, and what a Simdega family is most likely to need from a tutor if a child joins a school in another city.

PYPNursery to Class 5, ages 3-12

IB Primary Years Programme

Learning is organised around units of inquiry instead of a fixed set of textbooks, and it closes with the Exhibition, a group investigation of a real issue in the final year. Tutoring at this age is short and gentle: reading aloud, number sense, a clear paragraph, and the habit of asking a question that can actually be investigated.

No PYP school is confirmed in Simdega or Ranchi, so a PYP learner linked to this district is most likely boarding in a distant city. Brief, regular video sessions suit a child who is already tired after a long school day.

MYPClass 6-10, ages 11-16

IB Middle Years Programme

Eight subject groups are assessed against published criteria, usually labelled A to D, and the final year brings the Personal Project; some schools add optional on-screen exams. The programme rewards a student who can show how an answer was reached, so tutoring concentrates on reading descriptors, building command-term answers and keeping the project journal honest.

With no MYP school confirmed nearby, MYP help here usually means a boarder who wants a second explanation of a criterion, or a child being prepared for a mid-year move into an MYP classroom elsewhere.

DPClass 11-12, ages 16-19

IB Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three at Higher Level and three at Standard Level, sit alongside Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS, and most subjects carry an Internal Assessment worth roughly a fifth to a quarter of the grade. Written exams fall in May, with a November session for retakes. Tutoring starts with whichever subject-and-level pair is weakest, since that pair often decides the total.

No Diploma school is confirmed in or near Simdega. A student here is most likely to meet the DP as a boarder in Kolkata or Bhubaneswar, or after the family relocates, and the first two terms of Class 11 are when early diagnostic work repays itself most.

CPClass 11-12, ages 16-19

IB Career-related Programme

Two or more Diploma Course subjects are combined with a career-related study and a reflective project. Few Indian schools run it, so a CP student has usually enrolled by deliberate choice. A tutor's work stays with the Diploma subjects inside the programme and with the structure of the reflective project, never with writing it.

No CP school is known in the Simdega district, so enquiries are expected to be few. If a family does take this route, the Diploma-subject support described above applies without change.

Subject coverage

IB subjects we tutor

Level matters as much as subject. Two students taking Mathematics need different help if one sits Analysis and Approaches at HL and the other Applications and Interpretation at SL. For a Simdega student the first step is to confirm the exact course and level with the school, then to look at the Internal Assessment calendar, because that decides how soon lessons should begin.

IB Maths Analysis & Approaches

HL / SL

The route for future engineers, physicists and economists. HL adds Paper 3, an extended problem-solving paper, so the weekly habit is one unfamiliar problem attempted alone before any solution is seen, then marked line by line.

IB Maths Applications & Interpretation

HL / SL

Modelling, statistics and technology carry this course. Students need a calculator they can drive without thinking, and an exploration whose real-world question can be measured, chosen early enough to avoid a rushed write-up.

IB Physics

HL / SL

The current syllabus runs through five themes, from space, time and motion to nuclear and quantum physics. Derivations are paired with a discipline of stating units and uncertainty in every numerical answer.

IB Chemistry

HL / SL

Structure and reactivity run through the whole course, so a shaky grasp of bonding in Class 11 resurfaces in organic mechanisms a year later. Data-booklet fluency and clean stoichiometry are drilled together.

IB Biology

HL / SL

Four themes link molecules to ecosystems, and marks follow command terms. Describe, outline and explain answers are written side by side and compared with mark schemes, which suits a student who knows the content but loses marks on phrasing.

IB Environmental Systems & Societies

SL

An unusually good fit for Simdega: forest covers about a third of the district, farming is rain-fed, a dam stands on the Chhinda and rivers such as the Sankh and South Koel cross the plateau. Local systems make stronger investigation topics than textbook ones.

IB Geography

HL / SL

Plateau landscapes, river basins, resource use and uneven development all have close examples in south-west Jharkhand. The fieldwork question must be narrow enough to measure; tutors refine the question and method, never the data.

IB Economics

HL / SL

Diagrams, definitions and evaluative paragraphs carry the marks. Rain-fed agriculture, forest produce such as lac and the price swings around them give commentary topics tied to figures a student can really look up.

IB Business Management

HL / SL

Case-study papers punish generic answers, so every point is tied to the firm in the stimulus. The internal assessment is a research project on a real organisation, which a family shop or cooperative can supply if the owner agrees.

IB English A Language & Literature

HL / SL

Paper 1 is a guided analysis of an unseen text, Paper 2 a comparative essay, and the Individual Oral links two texts to a global issue. A student who speaks Sadri or Mundari at home and Hindi at school brings real language awareness; the gap is usually the discipline of written analysis.

IB Hindi B

HL / SL

A language acquisition course where text types, register and accurate structure decide marks even for fluent speakers. The Individual Oral should be rehearsed aloud, in lessons, not silently from notes.

IB Computer Science

HL / SL

Algorithmic thinking and system fundamentals on paper, and a working program for a real client in the internal assessment. A tutor can help plan milestones and testing, while the code, client interview and documentation stay the student's own.

IB Sports, Exercise & Health Science

HL / SL

Anatomy, exercise physiology, biomechanics and performance psychology: a natural choice for a student whose week already revolves around a hockey pitch. A training-load or fitness question from the student's own squad makes a workable investigation.

IB Psychology

HL / SL

The biological, cognitive and sociocultural approaches each need named studies recalled accurately and tied to the question. Long answers are marked on structure as much as knowledge, so outlining under time is practised weekly.

Theory of Knowledge (TOK)

DP Core

Best treated as a conversation, not a syllabus to memorise. Tutors help test an exhibition idea aloud and work through a prescribed title from more than one direction, while the essay itself remains the student's own.

IGCSE coverage

IGCSE subjects we tutor

Every IGCSE subject has a board, a code and often a tier, and Cambridge 0580 Mathematics shares little with Edexcel 4MA1 beyond the name. Tutors for Simdega students begin with the board's own specification and past papers, then work backwards from the exam series in which the child is entered.

IGCSE Mathematics 0580

Core / Extended

Extended papers reward complete method, so a missing step costs more than a slip in arithmetic. Calculator and non-calculator skills are rehearsed separately.

IGCSE Additional Mathematics 0606

Grade 10

Calculus, functions and trigonometric identities arrive early. Students who take it often find Diploma Maths HL less of a leap two years later.

Edexcel IGCSE Mathematics A 4MA1

Foundation / Higher

Tiering is the main difference from Cambridge. Higher-tier questions are worded and sequenced in Edexcel's own style, so Edexcel papers, not Cambridge ones, are used for practice.

IGCSE Physics 0625

Core / Extended

Rearranging formulae under pressure, electricity and waves, and the practical-skills paper together decide most of the result.

IGCSE Chemistry 0620

Core / Extended

Mole calculations, bonding and organic chemistry dominate. The alternative-to-practical paper rewards a method learned early, not crammed in the last week.

IGCSE Biology 0610

Core / Extended

Genetics, transport and ecology recur in every session. Extended-response answers earn marks when written the way mark schemes expect.

IGCSE Co-ordinated Sciences 0654

Grade 9-10

Three sciences in a double-award structure for schools that do not teach them separately. Planning which topics overlap saves a lot of revision time.

IGCSE Economics 0455

Grade 9-10

Correctly labelled diagrams matter from topic one, and the longer evaluative question is usually the hurdle for a student aiming above a C.

IGCSE Computer Science 0478

Grade 9-10

Pseudocode, trace tables and Python come together only through repeated practice on fresh problems.

IGCSE English First Language 0500

Grade 9-10

Directed writing and summary are taught skills. Timed practice on unseen passages should begin well before the exam term.

IGCSE Hindi as a Second Language

Grade 9-10

A sensible scoring subject for a student who already speaks Hindi at home; the work is in formal writing and listening technique.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around Simdega school timetables

Whatever the format, the lesson has one shape: one tutor, one student, live video and a shared whiteboard, run on Indian Standard Time. What varies is intensity and timing. The three patterns below suit a Simdega household, and none involves a tutor coming to the house.

A weekly one-to-one lesson

One fixed slot each week, fitted around school hours and any hockey or hostel routine. The tutor works through the current topic, sets a short task and sends a written note afterwards.

  • Suits PYP, MYP, early Diploma and IGCSE foundations alike
  • Slot moved quickly when a fixture list or school timetable changes
  • Past papers shared on screen and marked together
  • One tutor stays with the student from term to term

An exam-season sprint

Three or four lessons a week for four to six weeks before mocks or the May and October-November series, with timed papers marked against the official criteria.

  • Marking follows current IB or IGCSE mark schemes
  • Feedback returns within days, not weeks
  • Planned around Dussehra, Diwali and Christmas breaks
  • Booked early so the weeks are held clear

A holiday catch-up block

Concentrated weeks in the summer break or over the Puja and Christmas holidays, for a student bridging a change of board or rebuilding a weak topic before school resumes.

  • Useful for the jump from a state or CBSE syllabus to IGCSE or the Diploma
  • Diagnostic first, then a plan covering only what matters
  • Pairs well with a boarder's time back in Simdega
  • Scales down to a weekly lesson once the gap closes

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Simdega

01

Which IB and IGCSE schools can Simdega families actually reach?

  • No IB or Cambridge or Edexcel IGCSE school could be confirmed in Simdega or Ranchi
  • Local schooling is Jharkhand board, CBSE and a long mission-school tradition
  • The nearest confirmed options are in Bhubaneswar and Kolkata
  • One online tutor can stay with a student across any move of school or city

None that we could confirm in Simdega itself. Neither the town nor Ranchi, the state capital about 155 km away, shows up in school directories with an IB, Cambridge IGCSE or Edexcel IGCSE programme, so a Simdega student on one of these syllabuses is almost certainly studying elsewhere. The nearest confirmed options are in Bhubaneswar and Kolkata, both a long journey from the district, and some of them take boarders.

Local schooling has a different shape. Simdega is a Christian-majority district, unusual in Jharkhand, and church and Jesuit institutions have run schools, convents and clinics here for generations. Alongside them sit government schools affiliated to the Jharkhand Academic Council and CBSE schools. St. Xavier's College, a Jesuit institution, began classes in Simdega in 2016, and Simdega College is a constituent college of Ranchi University.

Who, then, looks for IB and IGCSE tutors in Simdega? The likeliest households are those with a child already boarding in another state, a parent posted here by the administration, a bank, the forest department or a hospital who expects a transfer, and families who want study abroad kept open. For all of them the question is not who lives nearest, but who has taught this exact syllabus recently.

Honesty about distance matters. A school in Kolkata or Bhubaneswar is not a daily option from Simdega; it is a boarding or relocation decision for the whole family, and IB Gram does not arrange or recommend admissions. What a tutor can do is keep the syllabus moving once a child is placed and across any later change of school, because the same online tutor can follow a student from one city to the next.

Jharkhand board, CBSE or IB: what changes in the classroom?

  • Board papers reward a method reproduced; IB and IGCSE reward reasoning applied to new material
  • Coursework and Internal Assessments need planning skills a board syllabus rarely builds
  • English command terms become a subject of their own for students coming from Hindi-medium study
  • The Class 9 and Class 11 moves are where a tutor helps most

The biggest change is how an answer earns marks. Jharkhand board and CBSE papers reward the textbook method reproduced accurately, and a student who has prepared well from the prescribed book can predict most of the paper. IB and IGCSE papers reward applying an idea to something unfamiliar and explaining the reasoning, so revision habits that give 90 per cent on a board paper can stall at a middling grade.

Coursework is the second change. Board assessment leans on the year-end paper, with practicals and internal marks forming a smaller share. In the Diploma, an Internal Assessment is planned, drafted and defended over months, and some IGCSE subjects carry coursework or a practical paper. A student arriving from a board school has rarely written a research question, so that skill is built in lessons, week by week.

Language shifts too. A child who learned Science in Hindi, with Sadri or Mundari spoken at home, now meets command terms such as evaluate, justify and distinguish in English and must learn what each one asks for. Tutors teach that exam vocabulary as a subject in itself, starting from the student's own wrong answers. Hindi stays available as IB Language B or an IGCSE second-language subject, so a home-language strength keeps working.

None of this is a verdict on the Jharkhand board, whose Matric and Intermediate certificates remain the route into the state's own universities and competitive exams. The comparison simply tells a family what to expect if a move is planned in Class 9 for IGCSE or in Class 11 for the Diploma.

What decides the fee for an IB or IGCSE tutor in Simdega?

  • Programme, subject, level and session length set the rate
  • Rare HL science and Maths tutors cost more than Core IGCSE support
  • No travel cost, since nothing happens in person
  • Rates in writing before booking; no lock-in afterwards

The fee depends on the subject and level, the programme, how often your child meets the tutor and how long each session runs, and not on where you live. IB and IGCSE tutors in Simdega are quoted the way tutors are quoted for a large city: the rate is set for the match, written down and confirmed before the free trial lesson is booked.

Scarcity pushes a rate up. An HL Physics or HL Chemistry tutor who has taught the current syllabus is harder to find than one for IGCSE Core Mathematics, and a tutor who has recently coached the Internal Assessment in a subject such as IB Economics is rarer again. A Class 11 Diploma student asking for two HL sciences and Maths will usually pay more per hour than an MYP student asking for Language support.

Frequency matters more than most families expect. One lesson a week in term and two in the six weeks before exams is a common pattern, yet a student who needs help with a single weak topic may manage on three or four sessions in total. Because the lesson is online, no travel cost is added and no hour is lost on the road to Ranchi or Rourkela.

Ask three questions of any quote. What exactly is covered in each session? How will progress be reported? What happens if the fit is wrong? At IB Gram the answers are a written note after each lesson, a review every few weeks and a tutor change on request. No price list appears on this page because no fair number exists until the subject, level and schedule are known.

04

Online lessons against Simdega's coaching, home tutors and self-study

  • Coaching in the region is aimed at board and entrance exams, not IB or IGCSE
  • Local home tutors help with habits but rarely know IB or Cambridge mark schemes
  • Self-study misses the feedback that moves a grade
  • An online tutor brings the specific syllabus knowledge the district lacks

Coaching in district towns like Simdega is organised around board exams and entrance preparation, and larger entrance-exam centres tend to be in cities such as Ranchi and Rourkela. We found no evidence of a batch teaching IB Chemistry HL or IGCSE Additional Mathematics in the district, and a group format would suit a Diploma student poorly anyway, since an Internal Assessment is an individual piece of work.

A local home tutor is the usual arrangement for CBSE and board subjects, and a good one is worth having for study habits and exam nerves. The limit is syllabus knowledge: a teacher who has not worked with the IB Mathematics guide or a Cambridge mark scheme cannot say why a proof lost two marks. For a student who may also board elsewhere, a local tutor's availability is a further difficulty.

Self-study is realistic for IGCSE Mathematics or Biology when past papers are plentiful, and weak wherever feedback is the missing ingredient. Nobody marks an Extended Essay outline or points out that a Chemistry method cannot be repeated. Much of what separates a 5 from a 6 or 7 lies in that feedback, and a short trial lesson is a low-cost way to find out how much of it a student needs.

An online tutor is not better than a good teacher in the room; the advantage is reach. A family searching for IB and IGCSE tutors in Simdega will find the local pool empty, yet a student can still work with someone who has coached this exact course recently, whether that person lives in Pune, Delhi or Bengaluru, and keep the same tutor if school, city or even country changes.

The exam calendar around Simdega's monsoon, Sarhul and Christmas

  • May heat and the IB and Cambridge exams overlap, so mornings or evenings suit best
  • July and August rains call for a backup connection
  • Sarhul, Karma, Christmas and Diwali are planned into the calendar
  • Mock exams in February or March shape the Class 12 timetable

A calendar for Simdega has to bend around the plateau's seasons. May is the warmest month, averaging about 33 C, which is exactly when IB May-session exams and Cambridge's May-June series fall. The monsoon arrives in June and is at its heaviest in July and August, while December is the driest and coolest month, so a family should keep a second connection ready for the rainy weeks.

The festival year adds its own rhythm. Sarhul, the spring festival of the district's Adivasi communities, comes around March or April; Karma follows near the end of the rains; Christmas is a major occasion in a Christian-majority district; Dussehra and Diwali arrive in the autumn. Winter brings the Magh Mela at Ram Rekha Dham, and a Kartik Purnima fair follows. Tutors place lessons around those dates, not on top of them.

For a Diploma student the school year, which begins in April, unfolds in a predictable order: Class 11 internals, Internal Assessment drafts in the first half of Class 12, predicted grades sent to universities around the turn of the year, mock exams in February or March, and the May papers after that. Where a school uses the November session, the whole chain shifts by about six months.

For IGCSE, two choices matter most: the Core or Extended tier, usually fixed by the middle of Grade 10, and the date of the mock round. Cambridge sits in May-June and October-November; Edexcel adds a January series and some November sittings. A student boarding elsewhere can use Simdega's longer breaks, from the summer holiday to the Puja and Christmas weeks, for catch-up blocks.

University pathways from Simdega after IB or IGCSE

  • Ranchi University, BIT Mesra, NIT Jamshedpur, RIMS Ranchi and NIT Rourkela anchor the regional options
  • AIU equivalence and subject conditions are checked against current brochures
  • Predicted grades drive most overseas applications in Class 12
  • Tutoring supports the academic grade, not admissions consulting

Within Jharkhand the natural destinations are Ranchi University and its constituent colleges, Birsa Agricultural University, the Central University of Jharkhand, RIMS Ranchi for medicine, and BIT Mesra and NIT Jamshedpur for engineering. Across the Odisha border, NIT Rourkela is the nearest national institute. All of these admit through national or state exams and counselling, not through an IB or IGCSE score alone.

To use an IB or IGCSE qualification for admission in India, the usual first step is an equivalence certificate from the Association of Indian Universities. NEET-UG and JEE Main set their own subject and eligibility conditions, and CUET-UG access depends on what each university accepts. Those rules change from year to year, so the safe habit is to read the current brochure before choosing subjects in Class 11, not after Class 12.

For study abroad the timeline is familiar: predicted grades during Class 12, a UCAS application in the autumn for UK courses, a Common Application with essays for US colleges, and offers expressed as IB points with required grades in named HL subjects. Applicants from a town like Simdega gain from starting early, because school counselling about overseas applications may be limited and online preparation fills the gap.

What a tutor contributes is the academic grade. Lifting a predicted HL Maths grade from 5 to 6 or 7 keeps more courses open, and a tutor works on exactly that: topic gaps, paper technique and timing. Choosing universities, writing personal statements and handling applications sit outside what IB Gram does.

07

IB Maths AA and AI, and the sciences, for Simdega students

  • AA suits proof-minded students heading towards engineering or physical sciences
  • AI suits students who prefer data, modelling and technology
  • Physics and Chemistry marks are lost most often on units, uncertainty and mechanisms
  • Local forests, rivers and a dam give Biology and ESS investigations real data

Analysis and Approaches suits a student who enjoys algebra, proof and calculus and may head towards engineering, physics, economics or computer science; Applications and Interpretation suits one who prefers data, modelling and technology. At HL, Paper 3 in AA is an extended problem-solving paper that rewards a student who can stay with one question for the better part of an hour. The choice of course should be made with the school before Class 11 begins.

In Physics the usual failure point is units and uncertainty, not the equation. In Chemistry it is stoichiometry in the first year and organic mechanisms in the second. A tutor works from past-paper questions grouped by topic, then full papers under time. The Scientific Investigation, worth a fifth of the grade, goes better when the student has a question that can be answered with equipment available at school or at home.

In Biology the gain is in answering the command term, since outline and explain are not interchangeable. With forest covering about a third of the district and sanctuaries such as Palkot on the same stretch of plateau, Simdega students have an unusual amount of real ecology to draw on, and Environmental Systems students can ground an investigation in a local system instead of an imported example.

Mathematics and the sciences both depend on the second look: marking a student's own answer against the mark scheme and spotting why two marks went. That habit is hard to build alone and quick to build with a tutor. For a student taking HL Physics, Chemistry and Maths together, a realistic plan staggers the heaviest topics so no fortnight is overloaded.

08

IGCSE Core, Extended and choosing subjects

  • Cambridge Core stops at grade C; Extended reaches A*
  • Edexcel Mathematics A tiers are Foundation and Higher
  • Extended Maths with Additional Maths gives the strongest lead into Diploma Maths
  • Work from each board's own past papers and examiner reports

Core and Extended are not two paths to the same grade. Cambridge Core papers cap the result at grade C, while Extended papers open A* to E; Edexcel Mathematics A uses Foundation, up to grade 5, and Higher, grades 4 to 9. A student who sits Core can still progress, but a later move to Diploma HL Mathematics or the sciences becomes harder to justify on that result.

Subject choice follows ambition. A student who may take Maths AA or Physics HL later is well served by Extended Mathematics with Additional Mathematics and the three sciences taught separately. A student leaning towards Economics or Business should still keep Mathematics at Extended, perhaps balancing the load with Business Studies and English. Hindi as a second language is a dependable subject for a child who already speaks it at home.

Cambridge and Edexcel differ more than the shared label suggests. Papers are built differently, mark schemes follow different conventions, and Edexcel's tiering has no direct Cambridge equivalent. A tutor therefore works from the board's own past papers and examiner reports, which are the real syllabus in practice. A boarding student should confirm early which board and which codes the school has entered them for.

Practical papers deserve early attention. Cambridge's alternative-to-practical papers test planning, graph reading and evaluating methods, and a student who rarely uses lab equipment can still score well with structured practice. The Grade 10 mock round is the last sensible checkpoint at which a tutor and family can still discuss moving between tiers.

Where we tutor

Simdega and the surrounding blocks our online tutors reach

Because every lesson happens online, these places matter for context rather than travel: what schooling is nearby, how roads and rail shape a boarder's journeys, and when in the day a household is actually free.

Simdega town and Church Road

The district's administrative and commercial centre, with St. Anne's Cathedral in town and the St. Anne Dispensary on Church Road. School choice is widest here, all of it Jharkhand board or CBSE, so an IB or IGCSE student is usually the only one on the street.

Biru

About 11 km from Simdega and the seat of the Gajapati royal family, Biru now also has Shanti Bhavan Medical Centre. Doctors, nurses and staff on rotating shifts make weekday evenings uncertain, so weekend and early slots are worth requesting.

Kolebira

A block headquarters on the Ranchi side of the district with S.K. Bage College. A student planning the Diploma years in a larger city may stay with relatives or in a hostel, and an online tutor stays constant through that move.

Kurdeg

One of four sites where JREDA, the state renewable energy agency, commissioned a small hydel project in the district. A convenient local example for IB Physics energy questions and for run-of-river arguments in Environmental Systems.

Bano

Wikipedia names Bano as the railway station nearest to Simdega, and it also has a small hydel scheme. A student returning from boarding by train does better with the first lesson the day after arrival, not the day of the journey.

Thethaitangar

Another block with a small hydel project. In a district where about 93 per cent of people live in rural areas, families here plan lessons around bus timings and monsoon roads rather than the clock alone.

Bolba and Kersai

Rural blocks where the nearest city-style coaching option is far away. Lessons online remove that distance, provided a second connection is kept ready in July and August.

The hockey ground and Albert Ekka Stadium

Simdega calls itself a nursery of sports, and the astroturf hockey stadium and Albert Ekka Stadium anchor that. A young player's training timetable sets the lesson slot, and tutors plan around fixtures, not over them.

Kelaghagh Dam and the Chhinda valley

A reservoir on the Chhinda river with boating and parasailing. A useful real case for Geography and Environmental Systems students writing about water use, tourism and land change.

Ram Rekha Dham

A hilltop shrine with a fair on Kartik Purnima and the Magh Mela crowd in winter. Family travel around those dates can empty a week, so lessons are rescheduled in advance.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Simdega

Simdega and Ranchi

We could not confirm an IB, Cambridge IGCSE or Edexcel IGCSE school in Simdega, and a school directory lists none for Ranchi either. Local schooling runs on the Jharkhand board and CBSE, with a long mission-school tradition.

    Nearby: Bhubaneswar

Odisha's capital is a long journey south-east. A directory lists KIIT International School there with CBSE, IGCSE and the IB Diploma, in day and day-cum-boarding forms.

    • KIIT International School

    Nearby: Kolkata

Reached by the Ranchi rail corridor, Kolkata has three directory-listed IB schools: Calcutta International School and RP Goenka International School (IB with IGCSE) and The Heritage School (IB Diploma with IGCSE and ICSE).

    • Calcutta International School
    • RP Goenka International School
    • The Heritage School

Schools appear here only to show where Simdega families might look if boarding or relocation comes up. IB Gram is an independent tutoring service with no tie to those schools, to the International Baccalaureate, to Cambridge International Education or to Pearson. Confirm current programmes and admissions with each school directly.

    How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

    1. 01

      Send a short brief

Share the programme or board, subject, level, recent grades, the exam session and the evening or weekend slots that work around school and training.

    2. 02

      Read the shortlist

Tutors come with reasons attached, weighted towards recent teaching of your child's exact syllabus, since Simdega has no local IB or IGCSE campus to compare against.

    3. 03

      Take the free trial lesson

Your child works on a real topic with the proposed tutor, live and without charge, so the decision rests on an actual lesson.

    4. 04

      Approve a first-month plan

A written outline of topics, pacing and how progress will be reported comes back for your agreement before regular lessons begin.

    5. 05

      Review and adjust

Lessons continue in the same weekly slot with a review every few weeks, and a change of tutor is made quickly if something is not working.

    Why families choose us

What Simdega parents tell us matters most

Matched on the syllabus, not the postcode

Subject, level, board and exam session decide the tutor, because location tells you nothing about who has taught IB Chemistry HL recently.

Reach a small town cannot supply

With no IB or Cambridge school confirmed locally, the search covers the whole country instead of stopping at the district boundary.

A real lesson before a decision

The free trial lets a family judge teaching, pace and rapport firsthand, with nothing owed afterwards.

    Clear limits on coursework help

Tutors guide method and mark drafts honestly; they never write an Internal Assessment, Extended Essay, TOK essay or coursework.

    Progress you can read

A written note follows each session and a review follows every few weeks, so nothing about how things are going is left to guesswork.

Easy to leave, easy to switch

No contract binds a family, rates are agreed in writing first, and a different tutor is arranged if the fit is wrong.

    Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Simdega: your questions answered

How do I find an IB tutor in Simdega?+

Share the programme, subject, level and exam session and we propose tutors who teach that exact course online. Because no IB school could be confirmed in Simdega or Ranchi, the shortlist ignores geography and looks at recent teaching of the syllabus, availability on IST evenings or weekends and fit with your child's pace. A free trial lesson comes before any decision, and a poor match is replaced.

Do you offer IGCSE home tuition in Simdega for Cambridge and Edexcel?+

Yes, as online home tuition: the student sits at home and the lesson runs over video. Cambridge students are matched by subject code and tier, for example 0580 Extended Mathematics or 0620 Chemistry, and Edexcel students by specification and Foundation or Higher tier, with each board's own past papers and mark schemes used throughout. No tutor travels to a house in Simdega.

Do your tutors visit homes in Simdega, Kolebira or Biru?+

No. Home visits run only in Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR, and in Simdega, Kolebira, Biru or anywhere else in Jharkhand the lesson is live, online and one-to-one. A shared whiteboard and screen-shared past papers do the job that a table and notebook would do in a room, and the student stays at home throughout.

What does an IB or IGCSE tutor cost in Simdega?+

The rate is set for the match, written down and confirmed before your trial, and it depends on programme, subject, level, session length and the tutor's experience. IB Gram does not publish a price list, because an HL Chemistry tutor and an IGCSE Core Mathematics tutor are not interchangeable. There is no travel cost, since nothing happens in person, and no lock-in once lessons begin.

Which schools near Simdega offer the IB or IGCSE?+

None that we could confirm in Simdega or Ranchi. Directory listings show KIIT International School in Bhubaneswar with CBSE, IGCSE and the IB Diploma, and in Kolkata Calcutta International School, RP Goenka International School and The Heritage School, each with IB or IGCSE options. These are boarding or relocation decisions, not daily journeys, and IB Gram does not arrange admissions at any of them.

Is there a free trial lesson before I commit?+

Yes, and it always comes first. Your child works on a real topic from their own syllabus with the proposed tutor, live and free of charge, and a short written plan follows. The trial also shows what a profile cannot: how the tutor explains, whether your child asks questions freely and whether video and audio hold up on your connection. You can continue, ask for changes or request another tutor, with nothing owed.

Can a tutor help with IB Internal Assessments in Simdega?+

A tutor can coach the process but never writes any part of an assessed piece. That means helping a student choose a workable research question, explaining what each criterion rewards, discussing method and marking a draft honestly. Writing, rewriting or supplying data for an Internal Assessment, Extended Essay, TOK essay or IGCSE coursework would breach academic integrity rules, so it is not something our tutors do.

Which IB Diploma subjects can you support for a Simdega student?+

Most of the subject groups: both Mathematics courses, the three sciences, Environmental Systems and Societies, Geography, Economics, Business Management, English A, Hindi B, Computer Science, Psychology and Sports, Exercise and Health Science, plus Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay process. Tell us the exact subject and level when you write, since that decides whether we can match someone who has taught it recently.

Do you tutor MYP and PYP students linked to Simdega, not only the Diploma?+

Yes, the whole continuum is covered. MYP help usually concerns criterion-based work, the Personal Project journal and reasoning in science or mathematics, while PYP help is shorter and gentler, built around reading, number sense and preparing for the Exhibition. With no local IB school, these students are most often in a boarding school or have moved with a parent's posting.

Is online tutoring as effective as lessons in a room for IB or IGCSE?+

For syllabus-specific teaching it usually matches a classroom session, because the valuable part is a tutor's knowledge of the course and quick marking, not shared air. A whiteboard, a past paper worked through live and a recap saved for revision cover most needs. Where a Simdega student has no local specialist at all, online is the only route to that knowledge.

How are IB Gram tutors vetted for Simdega students?+

Before a name reaches a family, we check qualifications, recent teaching of the specific subject and level, and how the tutor handles Internal Assessment guidance within academic integrity rules. For a place like Simdega, with no local school to sanity-check against, recent hands-on experience of the syllabus is weighted heavily. You then judge the tutor yourself in the free trial lesson.

When should a Simdega student start IB or IGCSE tutoring?+

At the start of the course if possible: Grade 9 for IGCSE and Class 11 for the Diploma. Early lessons fix foundations before internal exams, Internal Assessment deadlines and predicted grades arrive. A student who begins later still has real options, though the plan then narrows to the topics and paper skills that carry the most marks before the target session.

My child is moving from the Jharkhand board or CBSE to IB or IGCSE. Can a tutor help?+

Yes, and it is among the most useful things a tutor can do. The content gap is usually smaller than the gap in expectations: command terms such as evaluate and justify, extended written answers, criteria-based marking and planned coursework. Starting in the summer before the move gives time to practise these on familiar content, so the new school's pace feels manageable.

Can lessons fit around hockey practice or a boarding school timetable?+

Yes. A weekly slot is agreed around school hours, training and prep time, and it can be moved when a fixture list or hostel routine changes. Early evenings after practice and weekend mornings are common choices, and a boarder can use a free period the school allows. Tell the tutor about tournaments or camps early so that no lesson is missed.

What if the internet drops during a lesson in the rainy season?+

Plan for it rather than hope: keep a second connection, such as a mobile hotspot on a different network, and tell the tutor if power cuts are common so timings can be adjusted. A short drop usually means a pause and a reconnect, and the tutor can send the remaining work in the written note. Testing the setup during the free trial lesson reveals most problems early.

Can IB or IGCSE tutoring run alongside NEET or JEE coaching?+

Yes, but they are different tracks and should be planned as such. Subject tutoring stays inside the IB or IGCSE syllabus and its assessments, while entrance preparation follows the national exam syllabus. A student attempting both has to be realistic about hours, because a Diploma student with three HL subjects, TOK and CAS already has a full week.

Is IB Gram connected with any school, the IB or Cambridge?+

No. IB Gram is an independent tutoring service with no partnership with, endorsement from or representation of any school named on this page, the International Baccalaureate, Cambridge International Education or Pearson. Schools appear only to help Simdega families understand where international curricula are taught.
