IB and IGCSE Tutors with Private Home Tuition Delivered Online in Silapathar

Home tuition for an IB or IGCSE student in Silapathar has to travel a long way, and online it does: a tutor who has taught the exact syllabus, a shared whiteboard and a laptop on the family table. Silapathar stands on the north bank of the Brahmaputra, about 470 km from Guwahati, where floods can close roads for days; a lesson that arrives by wire does not depend on any of them.

  • Tutors who have already taught your child's own course
  • Live video in IST, plus a short written note after every class
  • A free trial class before any commitment

IB & IGCSE in Silapathar

IB and IGCSE tutors in Silapathar, teaching from afar to the home screen

Silapathar is a small city and municipal board in Dhemaji district, on the northern bank of the Brahmaputra and only about 6 km from the Arunachal Pradesh border. It is the commercial hub for the surrounding area and for neighbouring parts of Arunachal. The 2011 census recorded roughly 25,000 to 35,000 people, depending on which figure one trusts, and a mix of Assamese, Bengali, Nepali, Mising and Hindi speakers. Colleges such as Silapathar College and Purbanchal College serve the town. The Bogibeel bridge now links this side of the river with Dibrugarh.

Nobody would describe Silapathar as an IB or IGCSE town. Yet there are families here who ask: a parent in the oil, defence or government services whose child has studied elsewhere, a household with relatives in Delhi, Bengaluru or abroad, or parents who have seen how an international record helps with admissions far from Assam. For them, the nearest campus is in Guwahati or beyond, and a local tutor of the IB or Cambridge syllabuses simply does not exist.

So the teaching is online. At a time set with you, a specialist from another corner of India appears on video, works through questions on a shared board, corrects a photographed page while your child waits, and posts a summary the same evening. Nobody makes the journey to Silapathar, and nobody sits in the room; that arrangement exists only in Gurugram and certain parts of Delhi NCR. The compensation is freedom to choose a teacher by what they know.

IB Gram is independent. We have no connection to the IB, Cambridge, Pearson or any school mentioned here, and we make no promise on grades or admissions.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to Silapathar school years

Few Silapathar families meet the IB at a school gate. It reaches them through a posting, a scholarship or a conversation with relatives elsewhere. What follows explains what each stage involves and where a tutor is useful without doing the pupil's work.

PYPNursery to Class 5

IB PYP (ages 3 to 12)

Pupils study themes such as how places change, mixing language, maths and science, and share what they learn in a joint Exhibition in the last year.

In a town where Assamese, Mising, Nepali, Bengali and Hindi all circulate, English often arrives as a fourth or fifth language, so young learners benefit from picture books and unhurried conversation.

MYPClass 6 to 10

IB MYP (ages 11 to 16)

Marks are awarded against criteria across eight subject groups, and a self-managed Personal Project closes the stage.

A student from a SEBA classroom, used to learning set answers, must practise explaining choices and citing evidence.

DPClass 11 to 12

IB DP (ages 16 to 19)

Six subjects, Theory of Knowledge, a 4,000-word Extended Essay and CAS lead to external papers each May or November.

A Silapathar Diploma student is probably at a school in Guwahati or another city, so lessons squeeze into the hostel's evening study slot.

CPClass 11 to 12

IB CP (ages 16 to 19)

A few Diploma courses are combined with a career-related qualification and a reflective project.

Very few Indian schools offer it, so the CP is mostly a name families hear and rarely meet in practice.

Subject coverage

IB subjects we tutor

Help counts only when it comes from someone who has handled the real syllabus. Analysis HL and Applications SL are separate Mathematics courses, and a gifted Chemistry teacher may never have marked against an MYP criterion. Listed below are the courses we cover for Silapathar, with the habit that most often costs marks.

IB Maths: Analysis and Approaches

HL / SL

Calculus, sequences and proof; justification lines go missing under time pressure.

IB Maths: Applications and Interpretation

HL / SL

Data, models and money maths; a raw calculator figure without a line of interpretation earns little.

IB Physics

HL / SL

Mechanics to fields; units are dropped and explanations stay vague.

IB Chemistry

HL / SL

Quantities, energetics and organic routes; conditions are forgotten and arithmetic slips.

IB Biology

HL / SL

Cells to ecology, with the Brahmaputra floodplain's wildlife as a rich case; the skill is answering the command word exactly.

IB Economics

HL / SL

Diagrams and evaluation, using flood losses, rice and jute markets and cross-border trade with Arunachal as local examples.

IB Business Management

HL / SL

Case studies and a research project about a firm the student can observe, perhaps a trading house or a transport operator.

IB English A: Language and Literature

HL / SL

Reading unseen passages, comparing writers and rehearsing the oral.

IB Computer Science

HL / SL

Algorithms, data handling and databases, closing with a documented practical product.

IB Psychology

HL / SL

Biological, cognitive and social views of behaviour, and quick, fair evaluation of a study.

IB Assamese and Hindi

SL / HL

Coaching for Language A and Language B: correctness, formal tone and the spoken exam.

IB Environmental Systems and Societies

HL / SL

River dynamics, flood management and wetlands, an obvious fit for students who live beside the Brahmaputra.

IB Geography

HL / SL

Floods, migration and borderland economies, with Dhemaji's riverine setting as a real case study.

Theory of Knowledge

DP Core

Conversations about how a claim earns the label of knowledge, so that exhibition and essay stay in the student's own voice.

Extended Essay

DP Core

Finding a researchable question and shaping the argument; every word is the student's.

MYP Sciences and Mathematics

MYP 1-5

Lab write-ups and tests marked on criteria, which prepare the ground for Diploma-level science.

MYP Humanities and Languages

MYP 1-5

Working with sources, planning essays and nudging the Personal Project forward week by week.

IGCSE coverage

IGCSE subjects we tutor

We have found no IGCSE-teaching school in Silapathar. Requests come from boarders in Guwahati or Kolkata, families preparing to relocate, and private candidates. These are the subjects tutors handle most, for either board.

IGCSE Mathematics (0580 / 4MA1)

Core / Extended

Number, algebra, geometry and data, with attention to method lines and calculator-free work.

IGCSE Additional Mathematics (0606)

Extended

Differentiation, logs and trig identities, a runway to IB Maths AA or A Level.

IGCSE Physics

Core / Extended

Forces, heat, circuits and radioactivity through graded numerical questions.

IGCSE Chemistry

Core / Extended

Bonding, rates, electrolysis and reacting masses, one rung at a time.

IGCSE Biology

Core / Extended

Body systems, heredity and habitats, with tidy labelled sketches and well-built extended responses.

IGCSE Combined Science

Core / Extended

The three sciences blended into one award, for schools that teach them together.

IGCSE English First and Second Language

Core / Extended

Comprehension, summarising, writing for a chosen reader and the spoken assessment.

IGCSE Business and Economics

Extended

Accurate terms, calculations shown in full and case responses worded to suit the mark scheme.

IGCSE Computer Science

Extended

Logic, flow charts and compact programs, rehearsed under time limits.

IGCSE Assamese and Hindi

First / Second Language

Reading, writing and grammar for those whose home language is also an exam subject.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around Silapathar school timetables

No tutor comes to a house in Silapathar, because the in-person service is run solely in Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR. Online, there are three ways to organise lessons, and the best depends on how near the papers are and who is studying.

One steady weekly class

A fixed hour each week with the same tutor, tracking whatever the school is teaching.

  • Builds understanding over a term
  • A parent may join the trial
  • A short note after every class
  • Easy to shift around Bihu and flood weeks

A push before the papers

Additional classes in the lead-up to mock exams, a transfer test or the May and November sittings.

  • Planned from the latest mock marks
  • Real past papers and mark schemes
  • Timed questions, then corrections
  • Eased off once exams are over

Cousins or siblings together

Siblings or cousins working at about the same pitch divide a tutor's hour, and the fee, between them.

  • Suits MYP and IGCSE Core
  • A smaller fee for each child
  • Separate slots can start near exams
  • One set of notes for both

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Silapathar

01

Is there an IB or IGCSE school in Silapathar?

  • We could verify no IB or IGCSE school in Silapathar
  • The closest campuses are in Guwahati and Kolkata
  • A hostel place or a family move is the usual answer
  • Entering IGCSE privately needs an approved exam centre

We could verify none. Schools in and around Silapathar teach the Assam board syllabus, with some CBSE, in Assamese, Hindi or English, and not one appeared among authorised IB schools or registered Cambridge and Edexcel centres. Printing an unverified name would do you no good, so none is printed.

Families who want an international classroom therefore look far away. Guwahati, about 470 km off, has an international school, and Kolkata has older ones with a boarding tradition. Both mean a hostel or a move, and the journey from the north bank can itself be uncertain in the monsoon. These are weighty choices, and the right answer differs from household to household.

A few families stay and prepare at home. The child keeps attending a local school, Mathematics and English get extra hours, and a subject or two is entered for IGCSE through an approved exam centre. Cambridge and Edexcel welcome outside candidates in many subjects; the IB Diploma generally does not.

Tuition earns its keep at three points: ahead of a move, during the unsettled first term that follows, and in the months before an examination. We never promise a place in any school, and we tell you so at the start.

02

Assam board, CBSE, IB or IGCSE: what changes for a Silapathar pupil?

  • NEET and JEE aspirants often stay with the board or CBSE
  • IB and IGCSE favour overseas study and broad degrees
  • Changing route works best at the start of Class 9 or Class 11
  • A trial lesson shows how the new style feels

SEBA's HSLC at Class 10 and AHSEC's Higher Secondary at Class 12 rest on prescribed textbooks and written papers held in February and March. CBSE runs a similar rhythm with national books. Both pay off for careful learning and neat presentation, and both align with NEET and JEE.

Assessment works differently on the international side. The IB marks coursework in school and then moderates it; the MYP relies on criteria and projects; IGCSE keeps its written papers but aims them at application and data, often with a choice of Core or Extended entry.

The first term brings several surprises. Written answers need an argument, not a list. Maths hands out credit for method as well as for the final figure. Practicals are marked as investigations. English brings passages never seen before. And the exam calendar shifts from February towards May and November.

No route is simply the easier one. What matters is the destination: medicine or engineering through NEET and JEE, a liberal-arts degree within India, or a place at a university overseas. The grid sets the four side by side.

03

How is the fee for IB or IGCSE lessons worked out in Silapathar?

A fixed price would suit almost nobody, because the need varies so much: weekly MYP Mathematics for a Class 7 pupil is not the same task as steering a Diploma candidate through Chemistry HL in eight weeks. Once we know your task, a quote in writing reaches you before any booking.

Three things shift the number. The course comes first, as Higher Level sciences and Maths AA need tutors with narrow, deep experience. Frequency follows: one lesson a week over a term costs a fraction of three a week before mocks. Last, a sibling or cousin joining the hour trims each child's share.

In Dhemaji district most tuition is run for groups, aimed at board exams and entrance tests, so the hourly rate is modest. A private specialist is dearer per hour but needed for fewer of them, each aimed at your child's weak spots, and nobody pays a fare on a road that may be under water.

A plain test of value is the free first lesson plus the note that follows it. If your child can do something now that defeated them last week, you have an answer.

04

Online tutor, group class, local teacher or self-study: which suits Silapathar?

Across the Dhemaji and Lakhimpur belt, tuition is shaped by board marks and entrance tests, and hardly any touches an IB internal assessment or the choice of IGCSE tier. The grid therefore poses one question to each option: does it actually know this syllabus?

A one-to-one online tutor does, because pairing is decided by the course. The weak spot is connectivity, as mobile data can falter in flood season, so a fallback is agreed before the first lesson. A group class at Dhemaji suits entrance preparation, but it adds a road trip and a crowded room.

The teacher down the lane may be excellent for board subjects and younger children, and is usually the cheapest. International syllabuses are the gap. Self-study with past papers is free and suits the self-driven, yet it cannot catch an error nobody has noticed.

Many households run two routes together: independent study during the week, then one specialist online hour on the hardest subject.

How do floods, Bihu and the short winter days shape study in Silapathar?

Floods shape life in this district. The Brahmaputra and its tributaries swell between June and September, and Dhemaji ranks among the most flood-prone parts of Assam; roads, power and mobile networks can fail for days. All an online lesson needs is a working connection, but we still keep spare hours and ask students to save their work often.

Assam's calendar is full. Bohag or Rongali Bihu in April, Kati Bihu in October and Bhogali Bihu in January shape the year, Durga Puja takes several days in autumn, and the Mising community celebrates Ali-Ai-Ligang in spring. We move lessons around them rather than cancel.

Winter brings short days: it is dark by late afternoon in December. Early-evening slots work best, and families appreciate a lesson that ends before late-night fog and cold.

On dates: the IB sits mainly in May, Cambridge offers IGCSE in May-June and again in October-November, and Edexcel opens January for some papers. Sensible revision begins about four months ahead, switches to whole papers for the last six weeks, and spends the final fortnight on loose ends.

06

Where can a Silapathar student go after the IB or IGCSE?

  • Dibrugarh and Guwahati hold the nearest major institutions
  • AIU equivalence underpins admission to Indian universities
  • CUET-UG and state conditions need yearly checking
  • NEET and JEE ask for particular subject combinations

Assam and the Northeast offer plenty within reach. Dibrugarh University and Assam Medical College sit across the Bogibeel bridge, and Guwahati holds IIT Guwahati, Cotton University, Gauhati University and AIIMS Guwahati, with other institutions across the region. IB and IGCSE graduates can reach many of these by the right route.

Within India, equivalence is handled by the Association of Indian Universities, which regards the IB Diploma, and IGCSE followed by A Levels, as comparable to Indian school-leaving certificates; many universities act on that. CUET-UG admits numerous such graduates to the papers their subjects allow. State routes impose their own terms, so read the latest prospectus well in advance.

If medicine is the plan, NEET-UG expects Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English; if engineering, JEE expects Physics, Chemistry and Maths. Either way, choose those subjects when the Diploma begins, at Higher Level where the school allows.

Abroad, the UK, Canada, Australia, the US and Singapore feature most, and Delhi or Bengaluru often serve as stepping stones for Assamese families. Admissions teams read IB points and IGCSE-then-A Level transcripts as they stand. Tutors build the subjects; the personal statement stays the applicant's.

07

How should an IB Maths and Science student in Silapathar use tuition?

Which Mathematics course is the first decision. Analysis and Approaches appeals to students who enjoy algebra, calculus and proof and picture a career in engineering or pure maths. Applications and Interpretation draws those who prefer data, modelling and technology, and fits economics, business and social science. Both run at Standard and Higher Level.

Pupils from an Assam board background tend to arrive with sound basics. What they lack is the habit of explaining, since an IB paper rewards each step of reasoning and the interpretation of a result. The early lessons practise writing out working in full, so method marks stop leaking away.

The three sciences share a pattern: an investigation marked at school and worth one fifth of the grade, and Higher Level papers that reach past a Class 12 course. Physics students trip on unfamiliar settings, Chemistry students on quantitative organic work, Biology students on the sheer volume of material and the long answers.

Our tutors coach the internal assessment but never author any part of it. They can help your child find a workable question and test the method; the report, data and conclusions are the student's alone. The Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge are protected by the same rule.

08

Core or Extended: which IGCSE tier should a Silapathar student sit?

Mathematics, the sciences and a few other IGCSE subjects are sat at one of two levels. Core teaches the basics and keeps the highest grades out of reach; Extended adds harder topics and opens the full scale, which matters a great deal if IB Maths AA or A Level sciences are the next stop.

A student aiming at engineering or medicine should target Extended. A student who wants a safe pass, or who is still settling after a mid-course move, may prefer Core. Most schools decide early in Class 10, and moving up is easier than moving down.

Joining a Guwahati school in the middle of a course often means several unfamiliar topics at once. We start with recent classwork and a single past paper, note where the gaps are and count back from the exam month.

Each board numbers its syllabuses differently, Cambridge Mathematics being 0580 and its Edexcel counterpart 4MA1, and the papers read differently too. The board your school enters decides the tutor pairing.

Where we tutor

Silapathar and the nearby places our students write from

Since the classroom is a screen, where you live never narrows the tutor list. The map only helps us plan around daylight, floods and travel, and the notes below show how.

Silapathar town

The municipal centre and commercial hub, where most enquiries start; early-evening lessons suit students finishing school and tuition.

Brahmaputra north bank

Riverside villages that can be cut off in flood season, so families here value lessons that need no travel and spare make-up hours.

Dimow Chariali

A nearby locality with its own college, linked to Silapathar by road.

Malinithan side

The area near the Malinithan temple, about 10 km away, drawing visitors and pilgrims in the cooler months.

Arunachal border villages

Households a few kilometres from the state line, some with ties to Arunachal schools and markets.

Dhemaji

The district headquarters, larger and with more schools, often the comparison point for families.

Dibrugarh

Reached across the Bogibeel bridge, with a university, a medical college and an airport.

North Lakhimpur

A district town to the west, reached along the north-bank road.

Pasighat

The East Siang town in Arunachal Pradesh, close enough that some families have links on both sides of the border.

Guwahati

About 470 km away, the main destination for families who want an international school or a hostel.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Silapathar

In Silapathar: limited local choice

Local schools follow the Assam board or CBSE. We found none we could verify as IB or IGCSE, so an international route means boarding, relocation or private study.

    Nearby: Guwahati

The state's biggest city, about 470 km away, has an international school that the region's families usually consider first.

    • International School Guwahati

    Further off: Kolkata

Kolkata has long-established schools with international programmes, a boarding or relocation choice for families from the Northeast.

    • The Heritage School
    • Calcutta International School

No Silapathar school is named below, since none could be confirmed as teaching the IB or Cambridge or Edexcel IGCSE. Guwahati and Kolkata appear only to outline the choices of a family prepared to board or relocate. IB Gram has no say in admissions; always ask the IB, the boards and the school itself whether a place is open and authorised.

    Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Silapathar: your questions answered

Can a Silapathar student really have an IB tutor?+

Yes, over video. The tutor has already taught the specific course, for instance Diploma Physics HL or MYP Mathematics, and the lesson is private and on Indian time. Nobody knocks on your door, since face-to-face lessons are limited to Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR, but a search across the country produces a better fit than any local one.

Is there an IGCSE school in Silapathar or Dhemaji?+

We can name none. Schools in the area follow the Assam board or CBSE, and the closest international campuses we know of are in Guwahati and Kolkata. Do check any school's current position with that school. Tuition can ease a move, back up a child enrolled elsewhere, or guide a private candidate to the papers.

Does home tuition in Silapathar mean someone visiting the house?+

No, not in Silapathar. It means a private lesson that your child takes at home on a laptop, with the teacher on the screen and a whiteboard you both can write on. Visits to the house exist only in Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR. Many parents come to prefer this, since the specialists on offer cover the whole country and not just one neighbourhood.

How much do the lessons cost?+

Fees follow subject, level, tutor background and lessons per week, which is why no public price list is kept. Tell us what your child needs and a written quote comes back before you decide. The first class is free. Higher Level sciences cost more than IGCSE Core, and children sharing a class pay less each.

Which boards do Silapathar schools follow?+

Mostly the Assam board, through SEBA and AHSEC, with CBSE in certain schools. International syllabuses are found in larger cities. Pupils crossing over to IB or IGCSE seldom lack content; their trouble is reasoned answers and practical write-ups, so tutors concentrate there instead of teaching school lessons again.

Can my child sit IGCSE papers without joining a school?+

Often. An approved exam centre may accept outside candidates for Cambridge or Pearson Edexcel, with subjects, fees and closing dates set by the centre. The IB Diploma generally requires an authorised school. We coach for the papers while the centre handles entry, so make contact early.

When are the IB and IGCSE exams?+

The IB sits mainly in May, and a few schools use November. Cambridge IGCSE is held in May-June and October-November; Edexcel adds January for many subjects. Your school confirms exact dates. In Silapathar, serious revision usually starts in February, with slack left for floods and Bihu.

What happens when floods knock out the network?+

A lesson lost to a power cut or network failure is rebooked at no cost. Normally the tutor and student use video and a shared board, with the student photographing handwritten work for comment. If just the picture fails, the tutor carries on by phone while pages are photographed. We agree a fallback during the trial, since the Brahmaputra's moods are well known here.

Will a tutor write the IA or Extended Essay?+

No. A tutor will explain the marking criteria and the method, and may show how to find a workable question or where an argument sags. The words, data and conclusions must stay your child's. Drafting an IA, Extended Essay, TOK essay or similar graded work is not something we do, and a booking that assumes it is declined.

Which places around Silapathar do you teach?+

Anywhere with a connection: Silapathar, Dimow Chariali, the Malinithan side, the Arunachal border villages, Dhemaji, Dibrugarh, North Lakhimpur and Guwahati are all covered. Location shapes how we schedule around floods and daylight, never which tutors are on offer.

We have relatives elsewhere. IB or IGCSE for study abroad?+

Both routes are accepted by universities overseas, so consider the child and the school within reach rather than a ranking. The Diploma is six subjects and a core over two years and rewards breadth; IGCSE is a two-year secondary stage that often leads on to A Levels or the Diploma. Ask the schools and, where you can, admissions offices abroad.

Do you teach Assamese or Hindi as examined languages?+

Yes, whether as IB language courses or as IGCSE first or second language subjects, covering reading, composition, grammar and the oral where there is one. Some language and level pairings have fewer tutors available, so name yours in the first message and we will be straight about whether a match exists.

Our child studies in Guwahati or Kolkata. Can lessons continue at home?+

Yes. Online lessons follow the student, so the same tutor can teach at the hostel in term time and at home in Silapathar during breaks, keeping one continuous set of notes. A holiday then stops being a gap in the subject.

    How do we begin?+

Send the programme, subject, level and school to +91 7439 368 115 on WhatsApp, or by email to support@ibgram.com. We reply with a few tutors and a trial slot. The class costs nothing, nothing is owed after it, and any rate is confirmed in writing before you commit.

Can we change tutors if the match is not right?+

Yes, with no awkwardness at all. Poor matches are usually about pace or teaching style and rarely about ability, and a prompt change saves weeks. The trial class is meant to bring this out, and the regular review offers another chance.

Is IB Gram linked to a school or exam board?+

No. IB Gram works on its own, separate from the International Baccalaureate, Cambridge, Pearson and all schools named here, which are mentioned only to show what lies near Silapathar. Neither grades nor admission can be promised, since both rest on the student's effort and each school's decisions.
