IB and IGCSE Tutors and Online Home Tuition in Sibsagar

Anyone in Sibsagar asking about home tuition for an IB or IGCSE subject is really asking how to reach a specialist from a town in Upper Assam, and the workable answer is a live private lesson on a laptop. Teaching is one tutor to one child, with a shared whiteboard, from wherever in India the tutor is based. The old Ahom capital has tea estates, oil-industry families and a long academic tradition, and some of those households now want an international route.

  • A tutor is chosen by IB subject and level, or by Cambridge or Edexcel syllabus code, before anything else
  • All teaching is on screen; there are no house calls outside Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR
  • The first lesson is a free, full-length trial
  • IB Gram stands apart from the IB, Cambridge, Pearson Edexcel and every school or college mentioned

IB & IGCSE in Sibsagar

Tutoring for international curricula from an Upper Assam town

Sibsagar is best known for the Ahom legacy: the great tank dug in 1733, the Shiva temple on its bank, the Rang Ghar amphitheatre and the Talatal Ghar palace at Garhgaon. Nearby Charaideo holds the Ahom burial mounds. Around the town run tea estates and the oil fields that drew ONGC to Upper Assam, and the college and university campuses give it a scholarly edge. Schools follow the Assam boards or CBSE, and none that we could confirm teaches the IB or a Cambridge or Edexcel IGCSE.

The families who ask about IB and IGCSE tutors in Sibsagar tend to share a few traits. A parent may be an engineer or manager in the oil and tea industries, used to postings in other states. Others are doctors, lecturers or officers whose children have lived in a metro and are now in Assam, or who plan to go to one. The tutor keeps the syllabus continuous through each move.

Because local specialists are absent, we match from the national pool and teach live. Outside Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR there are no house calls, so in Sibsagar the lesson is online: one tutor, one child, a shared board and a written recap for parents once the hour ends.

IB Gram is an independent service with no link to the IB, Cambridge, Pearson Edexcel or any school or college on this page. Tutors explain, question and mark practice work; they do not author an Internal Assessment, Extended Essay, TOK essay or piece of coursework.

At a glance

  • IB PYP, MYP and DP taught live, with Cambridge and Edexcel IGCSE beside them
  • Assamese, Hindi or English used to clear up a tricky idea
  • Calendar planning for Bihu, floods and short winter days
  • A free first lesson, then written terms before any booking
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to Sibsagar school years

No IB World School is confirmed in Sibsagar, so the four IB stages meet a local family through a move, a boarding place or early preparation. Here is how each stage usually looks from an Upper Assam household.

PYPClass 1-5, ages 3-12

IB Primary Years Programme

Young children investigate themes such as how we organise ourselves or where we are in place and time, and reading, writing and number work are woven through those units. The final-year Exhibition is a small research project. A tutor here protects the basics while keeping the habit of asking questions alive.

A PYP child linked to Sibsagar is commonly from a family returning from a metro posting, so early sessions rebuild reading stamina and number fluency after a change of school.

MYPClass 6-10, ages 11-16

IB Middle Years Programme

Students receive criterion-based grades across eight subject groups and complete a Personal Project that they plan themselves. Many find the leap from a neat, correct answer to a justified, evaluated one the hardest change in these years.

MYP support tied to Sibsagar often serves a boarder home for the long winter holiday or a child who joined a new school partway through the year.

DPClass 11-12, ages 16-19

IB Diploma Programme

Six courses split three and three between Higher and Standard Level, framed by Theory of Knowledge, an Extended Essay of up to 4,000 words and creativity, activity and service. The main written exams are in May.

With no Diploma school confirmed in the area, a Sibsagar student is normally enrolled in Guwahati, Kolkata or another city, and tutoring keeps to that school's deadlines.

CPClass 11-12, ages 16-19

IB Career-related Programme

Learners combine at least two Diploma courses with a career-related study and a reflective core. It suits students who lean towards applied work such as design, hospitality or business.

CP is uncommon in the north-east, so Sibsagar enquiries usually name one Diploma course inside the student's mix and ask for help with that alone.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around Sibsagar school timetables

Every format is a live lesson with one tutor and one learner, and every one of them is online, since house calls belong to Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR only. The formats differ in how much planning sits around the lessons.

Steady weekly lessons

A set hour each week with the same tutor, taken at home. The pace suits a student who wants gradual improvement across the school year and a routine that survives busy months.

  • One tutor across a full term
  • Worked answers drawn on a shared board
  • A brief written recap after every lesson

Bridge before a school move

A focused run of lessons ahead of joining an international school in Guwahati, Kolkata or further away. Content follows the destination school's syllabus and entry test.

  • A diagnostic lesson to start
  • English, Mathematics and science first
  • Sample entry papers marked together

Flood-season backup plan

From June to September lessons are booked with a reserve slot each week, because heavy rain and river rise can cut power or connections. Progress continues even when a lesson has to move.

  • A second slot held in reserve
  • Notes shared for any missed hour
  • Brief catch-up once services return

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Sibsagar

01

How does the Assam school year meet the IB and Cambridge calendars?

The school year in Sibsagar is shaped by Assam's seasons as much as by the board. Heavy monsoon rain from June to September brings river rise and, in some years, floods across the plain, which can close schools and cut roads. Winter days are short, because Assam sits far east and dusk comes early, so afternoon study has to start promptly.

Festivals add their own rhythm. Rongali Bihu in mid-April welcomes the new year and brings a week of celebration, Kati Bihu in October is quieter, and Bhogali Bihu in January is a harvest feast with holidays. Durga Puja and Diwali fall in autumn, close to the Cambridge October series.

IB Diploma papers are held in May, with results in July, while Cambridge IGCSE runs a May to June series and an October to November one. Families who know the session can plan backwards.

The table lays out the year so that heavy lesson weeks fall where the calendar is quiet.

02

Who asks for IB and IGCSE tutors in Sibsagar?

Three kinds of household keep appearing. The first is the industry family, with a parent working for an oil company, a tea estate or a large contractor. Such families are used to being moved and expect a child to change schools, sometimes to a place where IB or IGCSE is the norm.

The second is the professional family: doctors, lecturers, engineers and administrators, often educated outside Assam, who want a wider set of options for their children. They may be looking at a boarding place in Guwahati, Kolkata or further, and they want the child to be ready.

The third is the returning family. Someone who worked abroad or in a metro has come back to Upper Assam, and a child who studied an international syllabus needs to keep going until the next school is chosen.

For each of these, the first conversation looks at the child's marks, the target syllabus and the months available. That tells us whether a bridge course, a weekly plan or an exam-season burst is the right starting point.

03

Are there any IB or IGCSE schools within reach of Sibsagar?

In Sibsagar itself we could not confirm a school that offers the IB or Cambridge and Edexcel IGCSE, and an education directory we checked showed no IB schools in Assam. This page therefore names no local school as offering either curriculum.

The nearest cluster we can refer to is Guwahati, where a Cambridge-linked school exists, and Kolkata, where families look for boarding. Jorhat and Dibrugarh are the larger neighbours but, as far as we could establish, they do not offer an international option either.

Before any move, ask a school which programmes it is authorised for, from which year group, and what test it uses at entry. Policies change, so a written reply is worth more than a web page.

Since the tutor is online, the same person can prepare your child for an entry test and continue afterwards, so the move does not create a gap.

04

Assam boards, CBSE, IB and IGCSE: what is actually different?

Families in Sibsagar choose between the Assam boards, CBSE and ICSE as a rule. IB and IGCSE are a different kind of schooling, less about covering a fixed textbook and more about showing how you reason. The table sets out the main contrasts for a parent weighing a change.

Mathematics usually carries across best. Sciences need more adjustment because exam questions start from data or an unfamiliar situation. English is the largest shift for students from Assamese or Hindi-medium schools.

None of the systems is simply better; the question is which one fits the child's plans and which schools are reachable.

05

What goes into the price of IB and IGCSE tuition for a Sibsagar family?

We publish no price list. A written rate is given before you book, so nothing is a surprise, and what matters to a parent is understanding what raises or lowers it.

Course and level carry the most weight. Higher Level Diploma Physics with an experienced examiner-style tutor sits differently from IGCSE English support. Hours per week and lesson length follow, and so does the tutor's track record with that precise syllabus.

Timing also plays a part: a steady weekly lesson with a burst before exams often costs less overall than repeated crisis blocks. Many families set a weekly ceiling and review it after a month.

Online lessons remove the expense and hours of travelling to Jorhat, Dibrugarh or Guwahati for a class, and the trial lesson costs nothing.

06

Online home tuition, coaching classes, private tutors or self-study?

Sibsagar and its neighbours have coaching classes and tutors for the Assam boards, CBSE and competitive exams, and they serve those goals well. For IB and IGCSE, the choice shrinks quickly because few local teachers have handled the syllabi.

Private live lessons close that gap. The tutor is selected for subject and level, and the lesson runs at your own desk. The table compares four routes honestly, including their weak points.

Self-study helps at the end, once topics are secure, but it cannot catch a method error that a student keeps repeating.

07

Where can an IB or IGCSE student from Sibsagar go afterwards?

Within India, the Association of Indian Universities treats the IB Diploma as equal to Class 12, and students can apply through CUET-UG or through individual university routes. JEE and NEET have their own eligibility rules that change, so read the current notices.

Students from Upper Assam often consider Guwahati University, Cotton University, the IITs and NITs through the usual exams, Delhi and Kolkata colleges, and a growing number look to the UK, Canada, Australia, Singapore or the US. Higher Level subjects and predicted marks matter in those applications.

IGCSE students usually move to A Level, the IB Diploma or Class 11 of an Indian board. That choice is made in Class 10, depending on what the family can reach.

A tutor can explain what a course demands, but admissions decisions rest with the universities, and deadlines should be checked with them directly.

08

What do IB Mathematics and the sciences demand of a student from an Assam board?

IB Mathematics offers two courses. Analysis and Approaches is for students who enjoy algebra, calculus and proof. Applications and Interpretation is for those who prefer data, modelling and statistics. Each runs at Standard or Higher Level, and the school usually advises.

Students from Assam boards are often accurate at calculation but less used to explaining each step in words or to using a graphic display calculator. A tutor works on those habits early, since they affect marks on every paper.

Science papers ask for reasoning from data, and each subject has an internal investigation that the student designs, runs and writes up alone. A tutor can discuss planning, error treatment and the criteria, but never produces any part of the report.

Scientific vocabulary in English is a hidden hurdle, so tutors keep a growing glossary with Assamese or Hindi equivalents and revisit it regularly.

09

How should a first-time family approach IGCSE tiers and subject choice?

Some IGCSE subjects are set at two levels. Core reaches grade C and Extended reaches A*. A student thinking about A Level or IB sciences and mathematics is normally entered for Extended.

Most candidates take between five and eight subjects, including English, Mathematics, a science and a language. A family that wants engineering or medicine to stay open should keep Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, with Additional Mathematics as an optional step.

Cambridge and Edexcel papers are built differently even on shared topics, so please tell us early which board the school uses.

A student from an Assamese or Hindi-medium school usually benefits from starting with English and Mathematics, since these subjects feed every other paper.

Where we tutor

Sibsagar and the Upper Assam towns we support

A lesson reaches any home with a workable connection, so these notes concern daily life and lesson timing. They describe the parts of Sibsagar and its surroundings that families mention most. None is said to hold an IB or Cambridge school.

Sibsagar town centre

The market and administrative core. Families with shops or office jobs usually prefer lessons after 6 pm.

Around the Sivasagar tank (Borpukhuri)

A historic neighbourhood of older homes and temples, with visitors on weekends and festivals that can add street noise.

Rangpur and the Rang Ghar area

Ahom-era monuments sit here, and households include teachers and heritage staff who value a steady weekday slot.

Joysagar

A quieter residential side near the second great tank, with a college campus that shapes the local academic mood.

Nazira

A nearby town with tea and oil-industry families, many of whom have lived elsewhere in India and know international curricula.

Demow

A town east of Sibsagar along the national highway, where students often travel into Sibsagar for school.

Simaluguri

The railway junction about sixteen kilometres away, relevant for families who commute or travel by train.

Sonari

A town near Charaideo with oil and tea links, and parents who compare options in Sibsagar, Jorhat and Dibrugarh.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Sibsagar

Sibsagar and Upper Assam

No IB World School or Cambridge or Edexcel IGCSE school was confirmed in Sibsagar, and a public directory we checked listed no IB schools in Assam at all. Local families therefore rely on Assam board, CBSE or ICSE schools plus a tutor for the international syllabus.

    Nearby: Jorhat and Dibrugarh

The two larger Upper Assam cities, about seventy-five and ninety-five kilometres away. We have not confirmed international schools there either, so they matter mainly for airports and coaching.

      Nearby: Guwahati

The closest large city with a Cambridge-linked school we have checked, reached by road, rail or a short flight from Jorhat or Dibrugarh.

      • International School Guwahati

      Nearby: Kolkata (boarding or relocation)

Families who want IB or IGCSE in a school of size often look east to Kolkata for boarding or a move.

      • The Heritage School
      • Calcutta International School

Schools appear only to show where international curricula exist within reach of Sibsagar. IB Gram is not linked to any of them and cannot confirm admissions or fees, so please ask the school directly.

      Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Sibsagar: your questions answered

Is IB or IGCSE tutoring available in Sibsagar?+

Yes, through live online lessons. A tutor based elsewhere in India joins your child's laptop for a private hour, so the absence of local IB or IGCSE teachers does not matter. The first lesson is free, which lets you judge the tutor before deciding.

Can a tutor visit our house in Sibsagar?+

No. House calls exist only in Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR. A Sibsagar family gets the same one-to-one attention online, with the child at the family desk, a shared whiteboard for working, and a written recap afterwards.

Is there an IB school in Sibsagar or Upper Assam?+

None that we could confirm, and a school directory we checked listed no IB schools in Assam. Local schools follow the Assam boards, CBSE or ICSE. Families considering a move usually look at Guwahati or Kolkata and should check each school's current status.

My child studied IGCSE in another city. Can tutoring continue here?+

Yes. The tutor follows the same board and syllabus code your child used, begins with a short diagnostic, and then plans weekly lessons. That keeps the course on track across a change of city, so the next school does not find gaps.

      What will it cost?+

We give a written rate before you book and do not publish a list. The rate reflects the programme and level, the tutor's experience, weekly hours and lesson length. Online lessons also spare you the cost of travelling to a larger city for a class.

How do floods and power cuts affect lessons?+

We hold a reserve slot each week in the wet months, and the tutor shares notes for any missed hour. A mobile hotspot is a useful fallback. When services return, a short catch-up lesson puts the plan back on track.

Can you prepare my child for an admission test at an international school?+

Yes. Tell us which school and which class, and the tutor builds practice around that test, usually English, Mathematics and sometimes science or reasoning. Starting a term or two ahead gives time to review sample papers carefully.

Which IB Mathematics course should we pick?+

It depends on the degree your child might want. Analysis and Approaches builds the base for engineering and physical science, while Applications and Interpretation suits economics, business and life sciences. The school advises, and a tutor can show a typical week of each.

Will a tutor write the Internal Assessment or Extended Essay?+

No. Tutors talk through method, structure and feedback, but they never write or rewrite an Internal Assessment, Extended Essay, TOK essay or coursework. Those pieces must be the student's own under IB and Cambridge rules.

      When are the exams?+

IB Diploma papers fall in May and results come in July, with a November series in some schools. Cambridge IGCSE has a summer and an autumn series. Your child's school decides the sitting, and the tutor plans backwards from it.

Do you teach both Cambridge and Edexcel IGCSE?+

Yes, both. Topics overlap, but question wording and mark schemes differ, so the board and code matter. Tell us at the start and the tutor works strictly from that specification.

Is Core or Extended right for IGCSE Mathematics?+

Extended fits a student who may go on to A Level or IB Mathematics or sciences, because it keeps every grade open. Core suits a child who first needs to build confidence. The school decides the entry, and the tutor prepares your child for it.

How does the trial lesson work?+

Choose a topic or bring a stuck past-paper question, and a tutor teaches it live for about an hour, free. Afterwards you may continue, ask for someone else, or stop, with nothing owed.

Can lessons use Assamese or Hindi to explain things?+

The teaching is mainly in English, because the papers are in English. When an idea is hard, tutors can explain it in Hindi, and a few can use Assamese. Tell us your preference and we will try to match it.

Our child boards in another city. Can you help in the holidays?+

Yes. We plan holiday lessons from the school's topic list, run them daily or on alternate days, and finish with notes so the student returns to term knowing what to do next. Winter and summer breaks are the usual windows.

What if the tutor is not a good fit?+

Say so by email or WhatsApp. We arrange someone new and pass your lesson notes across so nothing is lost. A good fit matters more than staying with the first match.

      How do we start?+

Email support@ibgram.com or WhatsApp +91 7439 368 115 with the programme or board, subject, level and free evenings. A shortlist and trial times follow, and you decide from there.
