IB & IGCSE in Rosera

Studying an international syllabus beside the Burhi Gandak

Rosera is a subdivision town in Samastipur district on the bank of the Burhi Gandak, a little over a hundred kilometres from Patna. It sits in Mithila, where Maithili is spoken at home and Hindi at the market, and its trade rests on tobacco, maize, rice, sugarcane for the Hasanpur mill, lychee and mango, with shops clustered around Mahavir Chowk on Station Road. A direct train runs from Rusera Ghat station to Delhi, and state highways lead to Begusarai and Darbhanga.

When a Rosera parent searches for IB and IGCSE tutors, the destination is usually elsewhere: a family member working in Delhi or Bengaluru, a plan to board in a hill school, or the hope of a degree abroad. We could not confirm an IB or IGCSE school in Rosera. Local schooling follows the Bihar School Examination Board and CBSE, with a growing set of private English-medium schools.

So our service is online. Tutors do not visit Rosera; in-person tuition runs only in Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR. A student studies at home with a laptop, and a specialist joins by video to teach on a shared whiteboard with real past papers.

IB Gram stands separate from every school, board and university named here. Tutors explain, set practice and mark. They never write an Internal Assessment, Extended Essay, TOK essay or coursework for a student, and they promise no grades.

At a glance

  • IB PYP, MYP, DP and CP support in the main subjects
  • Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel IGCSE at every tier
  • Evening video classes with a regular tutor on Indian time
  • A free first class and a written note after each session
  • Online only in Rosera; home visits run in Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR alone
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to Rosera school years

In Rosera the first question is rarely which programme is best, but which one a particular next step demands. These notes explain each stage and what a tutor can do while the child remains in a Bihar Board or CBSE classroom.

PYPAges 3-12, nursery to Class 6

IB Primary Years Programme

Classes explore themes together, from how the world works to how we organise ourselves, and a pupil-led Exhibition closes the programme. No exam stands at the end, so useful preparation means daily reading, unhurried sums and speaking in complete English sentences.

A Rosera family inquiring about PYP is most often about to relocate to a city such as Delhi, Patna or Bengaluru and wants a young child to be at ease in English discussion.

MYPAges 11-16, Class 6 to 10

IB Middle Years Programme

Teachers mark each subject against fixed criteria, link subjects through global contexts and end with a Personal Project. Students are praised for planning, questioning and reflection, not just correct facts.

A Maithili- or Hindi-medium child entering an MYP classroom usually needs practice writing science explanations and short essays in English, which we begin around Class 7.

DPClass 11-12, ages 16-19

IB Diploma Programme

Students take three Higher Level and three Standard Level subjects together with Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS. External papers in May decide most of each grade, and Internal Assessments add the rest.

A Diploma student from Rosera usually boards elsewhere or follows an online IB provider. Weekly lessons add Maths, science or English support, and continue through holidays at home.

CPClass 11-12, ages 16-19

IB Career-related Programme

A few Diploma courses are paired with a career-related study and a reflective project. Though it is lighter than the full Diploma, its academic courses carry the same standard.

Samastipur district produces almost no CP enquiries; the few we see concern one academic course for a student studying elsewhere.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around Rosera school timetables

Rosera has a single delivery mode, a live video class, which families use as a weekly routine, a bridge before changing schools or a short exam push.

A regular weekly class

One set hour with the same teacher, who writes on a shared whiteboard and works through genuine papers. It brings a specialist into the house without the bus to Samastipur.

  • Teacher selected from across India
  • Continuity week to week
  • Evening times after school and shop hours
  • A few lines of feedback for parents

A bridge before a move

A child heading to a city school spends two to six months lifting English, Maths and Science to the new pace.

  • A first class to locate gaps
  • Sample papers like the destination school's
  • Spoken English
  • Monthly review with the family

An exam-season push

Short, frequent classes before the May or November papers, using timed practice and swift marking, kept clear of Chhath and flood weeks.

  • Mock papers marked to grade boundaries
  • Clinics on weak topics
  • A plan for power cuts
  • Rest before each paper

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Rosera

01

What international schooling exists around Rosera?

  • Local schools follow the Bihar Board or CBSE
  • No IB or IGCSE school confirmed in Rosera or Patna
  • Nearest verified listings are in Kolkata and the NCR
  • Tuition lets a child prepare before a move is fixed

Very little, and we say that plainly. Rosera and the wider Samastipur district are served by Bihar Board schools, CBSE affiliates and private English-medium schools of varying quality. We could not find an IB World School or Cambridge centre in the town, and our checks on Patna also turned up no confirmed option. The nearest listed IB and IGCSE schools we could verify are in Kolkata and the Delhi region.

This does not mean there is no interest. Mithila families have a long tradition of educational migration, with sons and daughters going to Delhi, Pune, Bengaluru and abroad. An IB or IGCSE background fits those trajectories. A parent with a brother in Dubai or a cousin in Canada may want a child to follow a syllabus that foreign schools understand immediately.

The practical difficulty is starting. Boarding costs a great deal, a move may be years away, and meanwhile the child studies in a classroom where nobody has taught the IB. Online tuition narrows the difference by offering one-to-one lessons from a specialist, in the exact subject, on the exact paper.

A free first class helps a family decide. If the child enjoys explaining reasoning aloud, the approach will likely work. If not, little has been lost.

02

Bihar Board, CBSE, IB and IGCSE: what changes for a Rosera student?

The Bihar School Examination Board runs matriculation and intermediate examinations in February and March, in Hindi or English, on state textbooks. CBSE follows NCERT and a national timetable. The IB organises study around six subjects, a core of essay, knowledge and service, and a mix of external papers and internal work. IGCSE is a subject-by-subject qualification examined on papers, normally taken at Class 10.

Students from Rosera arrive with real strengths: strong recall, accuracy with formulae and a long tradition of disciplined study. What differs is how marks are earned. IB examiners credit explanation, comparison and evaluation. A final answer with no working might earn little, and a bare list of facts rarely reaches the top band.

A second change is language. A child at home in Maithili or Hindi may learn scientific English mostly from textbooks. We work first on listening and speaking so the student can follow a lesson comfortably, then on reading fast and writing in structured paragraphs.

The table lays out the differences as a Rosera household might want to see them.

Why do IB and IGCSE tuition rates differ so much, and what will Rosera pay?

  • Course and level
  • Classes per week
  • Number of subjects
  • Short bridge or long plan
  • No travel or lodging

A published price would mislead most readers, so we give none. Instead, a written quote reaches you after the free first class and before you agree to anything. Understanding what drives it will help you compare any offer.

The course comes first. HL Chemistry and Extended Maths need rarer specialists than PYP reading support, so rates follow the profile. Frequency comes next: a six-week run-up with three classes a week costs more per month than one class weekly all year.

Subjects multiply the total, since each normally has its own tutor. Duration matters too. A short bridge before a move is a different bill from two Diploma years of steady help, and a calm weekly plan often gives better value than a rushed one.

Online lessons carry no travel line. Compare that with a child boarding in Patna for coaching: rent, food and fares quickly dwarf tuition fees. For an estimate, message +91 7439 368 115.

04

Online classes, Patna coaching, a local teacher or self-study: which suits Rosera?

Patna and Kota-style coaching dominate Bihar's education market, with large batches for JEE, NEET and competitive exams. Very few handle IB or IGCSE, and sending a child to Patna means a hostel or a long daily trip.

A teacher in Rosera or Samastipur is cheaper and nearby, and suits school-level help and early classes. Few have ever marked an IB paper, which limits their value for a Diploma subject.

Online one-to-one lessons widen the pool and remove the journey. The requirement is a laptop, a quiet corner and a working connection. In a river town, monsoon storms and power cuts happen, and the Burhi Gandak floods in some years, so we choose slots carefully and reschedule without a fuss.

Self-study with free past papers is a good supplement, especially in Maths. It cannot explain why a mark was lost, which is the tutor's special job.

How do Chhath, floods and winter fog shape the school year in Rosera?

North Bihar lives by its rivers. The Burhi Gandak rises during the monsoon from July to September, and flood alerts affect roads, power and school attendance. Families near the riverbank plan around it, and so do we; revision is kept light in the worst weeks.

Winter brings thick fog from late December to January, slowing trains and often closing schools, and the cold makes evening study uncomfortable without a warm room. Summers are hot and humid before the rains, with May and June the hardest months.

Festivals set the family rhythm. Chhath Puja in October or November is the great event of the year, with four days of fasting and offerings at the ghats. Durga Puja, Diwali and Holi are widely celebrated, and Saraswati Puja in January or February closes many schools for a day. Wedding season keeps households busy in November and December.

Exams lie over all of this: the Bihar Board in February and March, the IB Diploma in May and November, Cambridge IGCSE in May-June and October-November, and Edexcel in January and May-June. The table combines them.

Where can a Rosera student go after IB or IGCSE?

  • Patna institutions, Pusa for agriculture and Darbhanga for arts and sciences
  • CUET-UG and AIU equivalence for IB Diploma holders
  • NEET-UG and JEE Main: confirm current eligibility
  • Overseas study via IB or IGCSE plus A Level

Inside Bihar, options include Patna University, IIT Patna, NIT Patna, AIIMS Patna and Mahatma Gandhi Central University, with agriculture and veterinary study at Pusa in Samastipur district. Lalit Narayan Mithila University in Darbhanga serves the region's arts and sciences. IB Diploma holders depend on Association of Indian Universities equivalence for many Indian admissions, and central universities select through CUET-UG. Each institution sets its own rules.

Doctors and engineers face separate gates. NEET-UG and JEE Main publish conditions on subjects and recognised boards, and state counselling adds domicile requirements. A student with the right science mix is often eligible, but the notices change, so the family must read the current one.

Many Mithila families have relatives in Delhi, Mumbai, the Gulf or North America. The UK, Canada, Australia, the US and Singapore recognise the IB Diploma and the IGCSE-then-A-Level route. Applications may require English tests and, for American universities, the SAT or ACT. We teach the academic subjects and point families to our test preparation page, but we do not file applications.

Pick Class 11 subjects with the destination in mind: Maths AA HL and Physics for engineering, Biology and Chemistry for medicine, Economics with Business for commerce and management.

07

How are IB sciences and Maths taught online to a student in a river town?

A typical class opens with a quick look at the week's homework, moves on to one demanding idea, and then hands the student a question to try on the shared whiteboard. The tutor watches the pen move and steps in when a step goes wrong, so mistakes are fixed within minutes.

Maths for a Rosera student usually means building English mathematical language and the habit of writing reasons on top of fast, accurate calculation. Analysis and Approaches rewards algebra and proof, while Applications and Interpretation rewards modelling and use of the calculator.

In the sciences, precise vocabulary and data handling win marks, and neither depends on a fancy laboratory. On the Internal Assessment, a tutor discusses the question and the error analysis; the experiment and write-up remain the student's alone.

If a power cut ends a class early, it is repeated later in the week. Keeping a notebook of worked methods also helps, because examiners reward orderly working.

08

Choosing IGCSE tiers and subjects from Samastipur district

IGCSE papers are tiered. Cambridge offers Core and Extended, and Edexcel Foundation and Higher, with the lower tier capping the highest grade. A student hoping for Diploma sciences or A Level Maths should work towards the upper tier.

A typical subject list runs to five to nine papers: English, Maths, a science group, a language and an elective or two. Business Studies, Economics and Computer Science are popular with students from trading families, and Hindi as a Second Language is an easy language slot.

A candidate outside a registered school enters through an approved exam centre, which for Rosera usually means Patna, Kolkata or Delhi. Closing dates fall months ahead, and fees go to the centre. We help with timelines and revision, while the centre handles the entry.

Additional Mathematics is optional but valuable for future engineers because it brings in calculus early. We talk it over with the family after a few weeks.

Where we tutor

Rosera and Samastipur district places our online tutors work with

A class is a video call, so these places are background: where families live, how they travel and what the evening is like in a river town.

Mahavir Chowk and Station Road

    Nearby: Patna

About 120 km away, Patna is the nearest large city. We could not verify an IB or IGCSE school there from published listings, so we name none.

      Nearby: Kolkata

Reached by train from the Bihar side, Kolkata has listed IB and IGCSE schools that suit families ready to board or relocate.

      • Calcutta International School, Kolkata
      • The Heritage School, Kolkata
      • RP Goenka International School, Kolkata

      Nearby: Gurugram

      Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Rosera: your questions answered

Is online IB tuition possible in Rosera?+

Yes. An IB subject specialist teaches your child live by video while the student stays at home in Rosera. Nobody visits the town, because in-person tuition runs only in Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR. The first class is free, so you can judge the teaching before paying anything.

Does Rosera have an IB or IGCSE school?+

None that we could confirm. Schools in Rosera and Samastipur district follow the Bihar Board or CBSE, and we could not verify an IB or IGCSE school in Patna either. The nearest listed options are in Kolkata and the Delhi region. Check any school's current status with the IB or Cambridge.

Can we get IGCSE home tuition in Rosera?+

Lessons at home, with the teacher on a screen: yes. We cover Cambridge and Edexcel IGCSE in Maths, the sciences, English, Economics, Business and Computer Science. No tutor travels to Rosera; that sort of visit exists only in Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR.

      How much will it cost?+

We do not publish a price list. The figure depends on the level of the course, the number of subjects, the classes per week and the duration, and you see it in writing before you commit. The first class is free, and nothing is added for travel.

Is the internet good enough in Rosera for video classes?+

In most parts of town a 4G or broadband connection is enough. Choose an hour when power is steadiest, keep a phone ready as a hotspot and tell the tutor if the picture freezes. A class lost to a storm or a flood alert is rescheduled within the week.

My child studies in Maithili and Hindi at school. Will English be a problem?+

It is a challenge but a manageable one. Many students from Mithila are strong in Maths and science facts. We start with listening and speaking, build reading speed, and add structured writing last. The trial class shows how much support is needed.

Which IB subjects are asked for most from Samastipur?+

Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Biology lead, followed by Economics and Business Management. Computer Science and English A also appear. Some students from agricultural families ask about Environmental Systems and Societies.

Will a tutor help write the Extended Essay or IA?+

No. Drafting or polishing assessed work is outside what we do, because the IB treats it as malpractice. Tutors explain the criteria, discuss your child's plan and comment on drafts that the student has written independently.

When do the IB and IGCSE exams take place?+

For most Indian IB schools the Diploma papers fall in May, with a November sitting for some. Cambridge IGCSE runs in May-June and October-November, Edexcel in January and May-June. The Bihar Board's examinations are in February and March.

Is an IB Diploma valid for Indian universities?+

Broadly yes. The Association of Indian Universities certifies equivalence, and central universities admit through CUET-UG. Professional courses and some private universities add their own conditions, so ask each institution before fixing subjects.

Can an IB student sit NEET or JEE Main?+

Often yes, subject to the testing agency's current rules on subjects and board recognition. State counselling in Bihar adds domicile rules. Read the latest notice well before applications open.

How do we book the free class?+

Send a WhatsApp message to +91 7439 368 115 or an email to support@ibgram.com with the class, board, subject and the evenings that suit you. We propose a tutor and a slot, and after the class you receive a written plan and rate, with no pressure.

What if the tutor is not right for my child?+

Say so after a class or two and we will arrange a new tutor, normally within days and at no cost. Chemistry with the wrong personality is hard going, and a better fit matters more than loyalty to the first choice.

Is IB Gram part of any school or board?+

No. This is an independent tuition service, with no link to Rosera schools, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson. Names on this page describe the setting, and we promise no marks or admissions.

      Can young children join online?+

They can. PYP-age children get brief sessions, around thirty to forty minutes, with pictures, stories and a parent nearby. The focus is reading aloud, counting games and talking, and parents get a short note on what was covered.

Should we move to a city for the IB instead?+

Only you can decide, but online tuition lets a child test the style first. A few months of preparation also makes a later move easier. If you do relocate, lessons can continue or taper as the new school settles.
