IB and IGCSE Tutors and Private Home Tuition in Phalodi

When Phalodi's afternoon temperature heads towards 50 degrees, nobody wants a stranger crossing town for a lesson, and in any case no IB or IGCSE tutor lives here. Our one-to-one private home tuition runs online instead: the student stays in the coolest room in the house, the tutor appears on screen from elsewhere in India, and lessons shift to early morning or after dark when summer demands it. The first lesson is free.

  • Lesson times are set around Thar heat, with early-morning and evening slots through the summer
  • Tutors do not travel to Phalodi, because home visits are limited to Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR; lessons here are live on screen
  • A complete trial lesson and a written rate come before any commitment
  • No school, examining body or exam board is behind IB Gram, which works independently of them all

IB & IGCSE in Phalodi

IB and IGCSE tuition for a family in Phalodi

Phalodi is called the Salt City, because its economy has long rested on sodium salt and plaster of Paris, and it sits on the Jodhpur to Jaisalmer and Bikaner axes with a population of roughly 50,000. It is also remembered nationally for heat: in May 2016 the town recorded a temperature of around 51 degrees, the highest reading India has officially noted. Nothing about that profile points towards an international curriculum, and our checks found no school teaching the IB, Cambridge IGCSE or Edexcel IGCSE in either Phalodi or Jodhpur.

But some families do ask. A parent working for a salt or mineral business is thinking about a child's studies abroad. A household with a son or daughter in Jaipur or Delhi wonders about a school move. A Class 9 student wants IGCSE Mathematics because it goes beyond what a Rajasthan Board class covers. For such a family, the usual question, who nearby can teach this, has no local answer.

We answer it by running lessons online and treating the climate as a design constraint. A tutor who has taught the exact IB or IGCSE course connects to your child at home, where the curtains are drawn and the cooler is on. The tutor shares a whiteboard, sets problems and marks them, then writes a brief note. No tutor visits a Phalodi house, because face-to-face lessons are available only in Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR. If a power cut ends a session, it is moved, not lost.

IB Gram stands apart from every school in Phalodi and Jodhpur and from the IB, Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel. A tutor teaches, sets work and marks it, yet does not write a student's Internal Assessment, Extended Essay, TOK essay or coursework.

At a glance

  • Cambridge and Edexcel IGCSE, alongside IB PYP, MYP and Diploma subjects
  • Summer timetable with very early and late slots
  • Suitable for students on Rajasthan Board or CBSE who want to add subjects
  • Free first lesson, then a short written note after each one
  • Online only in Phalodi; in-person tuition is a Delhi NCR service
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to Phalodi school years

Since no Phalodi school is confirmed to run an IB programme, each stage comes up for a practical reason: a move ahead, an online school, or a private exam route.

PYPClass 1-5, ages 6-11

IB Primary Years Programme

Learning organised around big ideas rather than separate subjects, with reading, number sense and questioning at its centre. There are no formal exams, and pupils complete a student-led Exhibition at the end.

Phalodi parents who ask about PYP are nearly always planning a move to Jaipur, Jodhpur or a metro and want an easier landing for a young child.

MYPClass 6-10, ages 11-16

IB Middle Years Programme

A five-year course built on criteria, where pupils are judged on how well they think, communicate and apply ideas. It closes with a Personal Project.

From Phalodi, MYP interest usually comes from a child about to board in Jaipur or elsewhere and needing support in holidays spent at home.

DPClass 11-12, ages 16-19

IB Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three of them at Higher Level, alongside TOK, the Extended Essay and CAS; the assessment is a mix of May exams and internal work, with a maximum of 45 points.

With no confirmed Diploma school in Phalodi or Jodhpur, local DP students are private candidates, online-school students, or teenagers preparing to join a school in Jaipur or beyond.

CPClass 11-12, ages 16-19

IB Career-related Programme

A smaller academic load paired with a career-related study and reflective project, aimed at students who want an applied route.

Questions about CP are rare from Phalodi; it is worth knowing the programme exists for mineral, salt-trade or business families interested in an applied pathway.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around Phalodi school timetables

All three formats are live one-to-one lessons at home over video, and none involves a tutor travelling to Phalodi. They differ in rhythm, and the calendar is built around Thar weather rather than against it.

Whole-course tuition for a private candidate

A tutor teaches the full syllabus in order, with timed papers after each unit, for a student with no classroom for the course.

  • IB Diploma, Cambridge and Edexcel courses
  • Summer schedule shifted to very early or late hours
  • Marked papers every few weeks
  • Plan built backwards from the exam date

Summer intensive

A dense block during the school summer break, when temperatures keep everyone indoors anyway, for catching up or pulling ahead before the next term.

  • Early-morning sessions before the heat peaks
  • A short second session after sunset
  • Useful before an autumn series or school move
  • Booked as a fixed block

Weekly add-on beside Rajasthan Board or CBSE

A weekly lesson for a student who is adding one IB or IGCSE subject to a school timetable, eased off during board-exam months.

  • Fits around school tests
  • A brief note after each lesson
  • Load reviewed every few weeks
  • Extra sessions before a series

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Phalodi

01

How do lessons work when Phalodi summers reach 50 degrees?

Lessons work by moving with the weather. From April to June, Phalodi's afternoons are dangerous to travel through and unpleasant to study in, and the record of around 51 degrees in May 2016 is part of local memory. So we treat the hottest hours as closed. Sessions are booked for early morning, before the sun is high, and again from late afternoon or after sunset, when rooms cool.

Because lessons are online, nobody has to cross town. The student sits in the coolest room, with a fan or cooler running and a laptop charged in advance. The tutor is on screen from elsewhere in India, sharing a whiteboard and marking work as it is written. Power cuts are the main hazard, which is why we recommend a backup connection, such as a phone hotspot, and a rescheduling rule that nobody argues about.

Winter is the opposite. Nights in the Thar can be cold, and mornings are brisk, so winter lessons tend to run later in the day. Dust storms, called aandhi, can also interrupt a session in the pre-monsoon months. Tutors reschedule rather than push through a bad line.

We mention this first because it is the honest answer to how IB and IGCSE tuition can work in a town like this. The table sets out a rough seasonal pattern.

A seasonal lesson plan for a Phalodi student
SeasonTypical conditionsLesson timing
April to JuneVery hot afternoons, dust storms, frequent load on the power gridEarly morning and after sunset; buffer slots for outages
July to SeptemberScanty, uneven monsoon; humid spellsFlexible evenings
October to NovemberPleasant weather; Diwali holidaysRegular afternoon and evening lessons
December to FebruaryCold nights and morningsLate-morning and afternoon slots
02

Who asks about IB and IGCSE tutors in Phalodi?

The families asking are few but purposeful. Phalodi's salt and plaster of Paris businesses are often run by families that sell across Rajasthan and beyond. Some of those parents have seen relatives settle in Mumbai, Bengaluru or overseas, and they want a child's schooling to travel. Others are professionals, such as doctors, engineers and teachers posted to the district, who know what a Diploma entails.

A second group is families who plan to move the child to Jaipur or another city for school. They use tutoring to prepare for admission tests and to get used to an IB or IGCSE style before the move. A third group is students in an online international school who need a live teacher, because a recorded lesson cannot mark an essay.

Distance is the common thread. No IB, Cambridge or Edexcel school could be confirmed in Phalodi or Jodhpur, and the nearest confirmed campuses, in Jaipur and Ahmedabad, are far away. For many of these families a tutor who reaches the child at home is the first practical option, not a luxury.

The table lists what we could and could not confirm so that parents can see where the real choices lie.

Rajasthan Board, CBSE, IGCSE or IB: which fits a Phalodi student?

Most students in Phalodi follow the Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education or CBSE, with Hindi or English as the medium. These routes link directly to the state's entrance processes and, through coaching in Kota and Jodhpur, to JEE and NEET. Rajasthan's coaching culture is famous, and a family choosing IB or IGCSE is stepping off a well-worn path.

IGCSE is the lighter step. It is subject-based, tested by written papers and, for some subjects, practical or coursework components. The Diploma demands more, with six subjects, an Extended Essay and TOK. Both ask for written explanation and applied thinking, which can be unfamiliar to a student trained mostly on recall.

It is worth being blunt: IB and IGCSE do not fit every child, and they do not fit every plan. A student aiming for a national engineering or medical entrance exam through Kota-style coaching may be better served by CBSE. A student aiming at overseas study or at a school move may find IB or IGCSE the more natural route.

The table compares the routes on the points parents raise most often.

04

What should IB and IGCSE tuition cost a family in Phalodi?

  • Programme and level, from PYP to DP Higher Level
  • Tutor specialism and experience with the exact syllabus
  • Weekly hours, plus exam-season extras
  • How much of the course is taught from scratch
  • A free trial and a written rate before any booking

There is no honest single figure, and we do not publish one. The rate for IB and IGCSE tuition is agreed per student and confirmed in writing before you book, because what a family needs varies so much. A Class 9 student beginning IGCSE Mathematics needs different teaching from a Diploma candidate refining Higher Level Physics.

Four things move the price. The first is the tutor's specialism, meaning how many times they have taught the exact course and marked its papers. The second is weekly hours. The third is how much of the syllabus the tutor must build from scratch, which is often the case for a private candidate. The fourth is timing: intensive blocks before an exam or admission test cost more because they take more hours in a short period.

Online delivery helps with the bill in a desert town. Driving to a city for a specialist teacher would add hours and fuel cost, and in summer it would add risk. On screen, each hour is an hour of teaching. That does not make tuition cheap, but it stops the budget leaking into travel.

Compare quotes carefully. Ask for the trial, the rule on changing tutors, the notes you will receive and the honest view on progress. A tutor who says plainly that a child needs more time is giving you useful information.

Online tutor, Kota-style coaching, local tutor or self-study: comparing routes from Phalodi

Families in western Rajasthan know the coaching world well. Classes in Jodhpur and Kota are designed to drive entrance-exam results, and they are efficient at that job. They do not teach IB or IGCSE, whose syllabi, command terms and mark schemes are different. A student who joins such a class for a subject the IB also covers may find the approach unhelpful.

Local tutors are a sensible option for Class 9 and 10 subjects at school level. Few have marked an IB internal assessment or know how Cambridge allocates marks on an alternative to practical paper. Self-study has a place, especially with past papers, but without marking it often repeats errors.

Online one-to-one tuition puts a specialist in front of your child at home. It depends on electricity and a stable connection, both of which can fail in a Thar summer, so a backup plan matters. It also cannot replace a school's laboratory or peer group.

A mixed approach is common. A specialist covers the one or two hardest subjects, past papers handle revision in the rest on a self-study basis, and school lessons carry whatever school already teaches.

The Phalodi academic year and exam calendar

The boards fix the dates; the town decides what is workable. IB Diploma papers fall mostly in May, which is also Phalodi's hottest month. Cambridge IGCSE has sessions in May to June and October to November, and for some syllabuses a smaller series in February and March in India, while Edexcel runs January, May to June and October to November windows. Anyone sitting a May paper may have to reach an exam centre in extreme heat, and should plan for it.

Rajasthan's school year and festival calendar sit alongside. Holi in March, Gangaur and Teej in spring and monsoon, and Diwali in autumn each take days out. The long summer vacation is a chance for intensive work, provided lessons are kept to the cooler hours. Winter, when weather is gentler, is the best time for long papers and mocks.

The practical plan is simple. Finish most of the syllabus by January for a May sitting, use February to April for papers, and schedule the final weeks carefully around heat and travel. For a private candidate choosing the autumn series, the summer becomes a teaching block and October is the exam month.

Treat the table as a sketch rather than a schedule, and confirm the current board calendar and your centre's deadlines.

University pathways from Phalodi with IB or IGCSE

Three directions open to a Phalodi student with an IB Diploma or IGCSE behind them. Within India, equivalence from the Association of Indian Universities places the Diploma at the level of Class 12, and CUET-UG is the entry route for central universities. Engineering and medicine need extra care: JEE Main and NEET eligibility for IB and IGCSE students should be checked against the official notice, since it turns on subject combinations and board equivalence.

Well-known institutions lie close by in Rajasthan: IIT Jodhpur, AIIMS Jodhpur, the National Law University and MBM Engineering College in Jodhpur, plus the larger universities of Jaipur. Admission at state level follows its own rules, and these can differ for students who did not study under the state board, so the current notices are worth reading.

Abroad, the Diploma is recognised in the UK, North America, Australia and Europe, and IGCSE results lead into A Level and Diploma entry. Rajasthani business families often have contacts overseas and begin thinking about study abroad early, which makes the choice of subjects matter sooner.

Our role is narrow: to help a student understand, practise and perform in the chosen subjects. We do not promise places, grades or scholarships, and families should confirm every requirement with the institution directly.

08

IB Environmental Systems, Geography and the sciences for Thar students

  • ESS and Geography: case studies drawn from arid-zone settings
  • Physics: heat, waves and energy with solar examples
  • Chemistry: solutions, salts and quantitative work
  • Mathematics: choose AA or AI by destination
  • Internal assessments: method coaching only, never writing

A student from Phalodi has a rare advantage in some subjects: the syllabus material is outside the window. Environmental Systems and Societies asks about water scarcity, land degradation and energy. Geography asks about resource management, climate hazards and development. Physics covers heat transfer and solar energy. A tutor who uses these real examples helps ideas stick.

That advantage has to be converted into exam marks, which is a separate skill. A student must write in the structure an examiner expects, define terms precisely and support claims with evidence. Early lessons therefore focus on command terms and answer shape, using topics the student already understands.

For the sciences, the internal assessment needs a workable investigation. A private candidate without a school laboratory can design one with household materials, simulations or public datasets. Evaporation rates of salt solutions, cooling curves and solar-heating experiments are feasible examples. The student carries out the work and writes the report, and the tutor coaches the method.

For Mathematics, the plan is chosen by destination. Analysis and Approaches suits engineering and pure science, and Applications and Interpretation suits commerce and life sciences. We work through sample questions from each before the choice is made.

09

IGCSE tiers, subjects and boards for a Phalodi private candidate

Most IGCSE subjects come in two tiers: Core or Extended with Cambridge, Foundation or Higher with Edexcel. Only the upper tier reaches the top grades, so it is the normal entry for a student who might continue to IB, A Level or a science route. The lower tier suits a child still building confidence, and there is nothing second-rate about choosing it.

Let the destination pick the subjects. Someone heading for the Diploma gains from Mathematics, Additional Mathematics, two or three sciences and English. A commerce-minded student might add Economics or Business Studies, while one who will go on to an Indian Class 11 may prefer a shorter list so the workload stays sensible.

The board is a decision in its own right. Cambridge and Edexcel teach much the same content in different wording, and an exam centre may offer only one of them, so find out what your centre accepts before lessons start.

A private candidate in Phalodi needs an approved centre first, and that may mean a trip to Jodhpur or beyond. Then comes registration for a series and a plan worked backwards from the paper dates. Registration and travel rest with the family; teaching and planning are our part.

Where we tutor

Phalodi and nearby places our online tutors work with

All lessons are online, so this list describes context: which part of the district a family lives in, what sort of school options sit nearby and how the long, hot summer shapes the day.

Phalodi town centre

The older core of the town, with State Board and CBSE schools and a dense set of salt and trading households.

Phalodi railway station area

The station, opened in 1914, links the town with Jodhpur and Jaisalmer, and families here often have relatives in other cities.

Jodhpur road

The approach towards Jodhpur, about 135 km away, where families considering a school move usually look first.

Bikaner road

The northern approach, roughly 156 km from Bikaner, often used by families with business links along that axis.

Jaisalmer road

The western approach, about 165 km from Jaisalmer, where defence and border-region families are found in the wider district.

Khichan

The village about four kilometres away, famous for winter demoiselle cranes, with a small, close-knit community and very few teaching options.

Lohawat

A nearby town known for its textile work, where online tuition is sometimes the only route to a specialist teacher.

Osian

A temple town on the Jodhpur side, with families used to travelling to Jodhpur for school and coaching.

Bap

A smaller settlement in the district, where distance makes online lessons especially practical.

School ecosystem

Phalodi and Jodhpur

No IB, Cambridge IGCSE or Edexcel IGCSE school was confirmed in Phalodi, nor in Jodhpur about 135 km off. With little available nearby, families study privately, enrol in an online school or plan a relocation.

    Nearby: Jaipur

Rajasthan's capital has the state's established international curriculum schools, and several Phalodi and Jodhpur families look at relocation or boarding there.

    • Sanskar School, Jaipur
    • Jayshree Periwal International School
    • Mayoor School Jaipur

    Nearby: Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad is a long journey by road or rail, but it has confirmed IB and Cambridge schools that some families from western Rajasthan consider.

    • Ahmedabad International School
    • Calorx Olive International School

The schools named below are there to sketch the curriculum options around Phalodi and for no other reason. IB Gram tutors independently, without a partnership with or an endorsement from any of those schools, the International Baccalaureate, Cambridge International or Pearson Edexcel.

No tutor visits a house in Phalodi, since tutors go to homes only in Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR. The Phalodi version of home tuition is online and one to one: the student stays in the cool of the house while a tutor teaches live over video, writes on a shared whiteboard and marks each step of the working as it appears.

Is there an IB or IGCSE school in Phalodi?+

We could not confirm one in Phalodi or in Jodhpur. Confirmed options sit much further away, including Sanskar School, Jayshree Periwal International School and Mayoor School in Jaipur, and Ahmedabad International School and Calorx Olive International School in Ahmedabad. Please check each school directly.

How do lessons cope with the summer heat?+

We schedule around it. From April to June, sessions move to early morning or after sunset, and the student studies in the coolest room in the house. Because nobody travels, there is no exposure to afternoon heat. If a power cut ends a call, the tutor reschedules rather than pushing on.

What does IB or IGCSE tuition cost in Phalodi?+

There is no standard figure. The quote reflects the subject and level, the hours per week, and how much of the syllabus has to be built from the first topic, which is why a private candidate usually needs more hours than a student mending one weak area. You receive the rate in writing before booking, and the free trial lets you weigh the teaching against the cost first.

Is the first lesson really free?+

It is. Your child gets a whole lesson on a genuine topic from their own syllabus, taught by the tutor we have matched, and a parent is welcome to sit in. When it ends you can continue, ask to meet a different tutor or stop altogether. Nothing is owed, and any rate is set down in writing before you agree to it.

Can a tutor write an IB Internal Assessment for my child?+

No. The help on offer concerns process: choosing a question that can be investigated, understanding what the criteria ask for, testing a method and reading through drafts that the student has written. Our tutors decline to write or edit an IA, Extended Essay, TOK essay or piece of coursework, because the submission has to be the student's own work.

Which IB Diploma subjects can you cover for Phalodi students?+

The range includes Mathematics in both versions, the three sciences, Economics, Business Management, Environmental Systems, Geography, Computer Science, English A, History and Psychology, together with TOK. Hindi B is available on request. Name the subject and whether it is HL or SL, and we will tell you which tutor has a free slot.

Do you teach MYP and PYP students as well?+

We do, from the primary years to the Diploma. A PYP child works on reading, number sense and asking good questions; an MYP student on criterion-based writing, mathematics and the sciences; and a Diploma student on subject depth and exam technique. In Phalodi's case these enquiries tend to come from families who are preparing a move to Jaipur or another city.

Which IGCSE boards do you cover?+

Both Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel. The boards number their syllabuses differently and word their questions differently, so the exact syllabus, for instance Cambridge 0580 or Edexcel 4MA1, and the tier are settled before the first lesson. Time spent on the other board's past papers is largely time lost.

Is it possible to add one IB or IGCSE subject while staying on the Rajasthan Board or CBSE?+

Yes, and many students do it this way. One lesson a week sits alongside the school timetable and eases off in the weeks before board exams, while a short note after every session keeps the record clear. The workload is reviewed every few weeks so that your child is not stretched too far, above all through the hottest months.

Is it possible for a Phalodi student to sit Cambridge or Edexcel IGCSE as a private candidate?+

In principle, yes: an approved exam centre that accepts private candidates has to enter the student. The closest one may be in Jodhpur or farther, so the journey needs planning, particularly for a May paper in extreme heat. Registration, fees and deadlines belong to the family, who should confirm them with the centre and the board; we supply the teaching and the past-paper practice.

What if the power or internet fails during a lesson?+

The tutor reschedules the lesson instead of pushing on through a poor connection. Summer load and dust storms make outages common, so we suggest a backup phone hotspot and a charged laptop, and we keep spare slots in the week. A missed lesson is moved, not lost.

How do you choose tutors for Phalodi students?+

Three checks come first: the tutor's qualifications, recent experience with the exact syllabus, and the way they handle marking and assessed work. We also ask how the tutor would lay out a whole course for a private candidate, since no local school supplies that structure in Phalodi. The free trial then tests the fit in practice.

What if we are unhappy with the tutor?+

Let us know and we will find someone else, with no penalty for the change. The short note after each lesson and the periodic reviews are designed to show a poor fit early, so your child spends their time learning and not sitting through sessions that are not working.

Does IB Gram have any link to a school, the IB or an exam board?+

No link exists. IB Gram is a separate tutoring service, tied to no school in Phalodi, Jodhpur or elsewhere and to none of the International Baccalaureate, Cambridge International or Pearson Edexcel. Any school mentioned here is there to describe the curriculum picture, and none of them endorses us.
