IB & IGCSE in Peringathur

IB and IGCSE tutors for Peringathur students, teaching at home through a screen

Peringathur sits in the Kuthuparamba area of Kannur district, a stretch of North Malabar where paddy land, coconut groves and school buildings share the same lanes. Most children here go to Kerala State Board or CBSE schools, and a good number have parents working in the Gulf. When a family wants the IB or a Cambridge or Edexcel IGCSE for a child, the nearest campuses are a long drive away, and a weekly tutor who teaches online is often the more realistic route.

A lesson looks like this: the student sits at a desk in the house, the tutor appears on video from elsewhere in India, and both work on a shared whiteboard with a past paper open. It is private, one-to-one, home-based tuition, only the teacher is on a screen. Families searching for IB home tuition or IGCSE home tuition in Peringathur get the same personal attention they would expect from a visiting teacher.

One thing needs saying plainly. Tutors do not visit homes in Peringathur. In-person home tuition is offered only in Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR, so everything here is live online. Parents can sit nearby, ask questions after class and read the short written note that follows each session.

IB Gram is independent. It has no link with the International Baccalaureate Organization, Cambridge, Pearson Edexcel or any school named on this page. Tutors coach and give feedback on practice work, but they do not write Internal Assessments, Extended Essays, Theory of Knowledge essays or coursework for anyone.

At a glance

  • IB PYP, MYP, DP and CP, plus Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel IGCSE
  • Private tuition from home, live on video, in Malayalam-friendly English
  • A free trial lesson, then a written note after every session
  • A new tutor on request if the first match is wrong
  • No home visits in Peringathur; in-person lessons are limited to Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to Peringathur school years

No IB school has been confirmed inside Peringathur, so the IB reaches local children through a school in Kannur or Kochi, through relocation to a city, or through a return from the Gulf in the middle of a programme. Here is what each stage involves and where a tutor usually fits.

PYPAges 3-12

IB Primary Years Programme

Learning is organised around transdisciplinary units of inquiry, ending with a student-led Exhibition. No external exam exists, so a tutor concentrates on fluent reading, clear sentences and number sense.

In Malayalam-speaking homes, PYP help is mostly unhurried English conversation and storybook reading for children who switched from a Malayalam-medium class.

MYPAges 11-16

IB Middle Years Programme

Each subject is judged against four criteria, and the Personal Project closes the programme. The shift from remembering facts to explaining and justifying is where most students need a guide.

Peringathur MYP requests tend to be for mathematics reasoning and science investigations from students arriving from the SCERT syllabus.

DPClass 11-12, ages 16-19

IB Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three at Higher Level and three at Standard Level, sit beside Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS. Written papers are mostly in May, with a smaller November session.

A local Diploma student is typically a boarder, a Kannur commuter or a Gulf returnee, and uses evening online lessons to keep subjects like Physics HL moving.

CPClass 11-12, ages 16-19

IB Career-related Programme

Two or more Diploma courses are combined with a career-related study, a reflective project and personal and professional skills. Very few schools in India run it.

A family from Peringathur entering a CP school gets tutoring in the Diploma courses inside it; the career-related study stays with the school.

Subject coverage

IB subjects we tutor

A student in a small town is often the only one around following a particular course, so the tutor has to teach the content and the IB way of answering together. Course, level and session are settled before your free trial.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around Peringathur school timetables

Everything in Peringathur is live and private on video. What differs from family to family is the rhythm: a steady weekly lesson, a concentrated block before a paper, or a mix that bends around the school year.

A weekly online lesson

One tutor, one slot a week, a shared whiteboard and a past paper on screen. The pace follows your child, not a batch.

  • A single tutor across the term
  • Covers IB DP, MYP and IGCSE subjects
  • Slots after school or on weekend mornings
  • Easily paused for Onam or exam leave

Exam-season intensives

More frequent sessions in the weeks before a May or November paper, aimed at timing, mark-scheme wording and the topics still leaking marks.

  • Timed papers marked line by line
  • Command terms taught directly
  • Short tasks set between lessons
  • Rescheduling around monsoon power cuts

Online home tuition with parent updates

The regular video class plus a short written recap and an occasional review call, so parents can follow progress without sitting through lessons.

  • Tutors do not come to Peringathur homes; in-person visits are for Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR only
  • A plain-language note after each class
  • Tutor change if the match feels wrong
  • Rate quoted in writing before booking

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Peringathur

01

Which Peringathur families look at the IB or IGCSE, and where do their children study?

Interest in international syllabi here comes mostly from three kinds of household. One is the Gulf family, where a parent has worked in Dubai, Doha or Muscat for years and the children have followed an IB, Cambridge or CBSE curriculum abroad. Another is the professional family with doctors, engineers or lecturers who want a route to universities overseas. The third is a smaller group planning ahead for a UK, Canadian or Australian degree.

Because there is no confirmed campus in Peringathur, the actual schooling happens elsewhere. Some children board in a city. Some live with relatives in Kannur or Kochi for the Diploma years. Some come back from the Gulf in the middle of Grade 9 or Grade 11 and need to keep the syllabus going while they sort out admission.

A further group never attends an international school at all. They register as private candidates for the Cambridge IGCSE or Edexcel exams at an authorised centre and treat an online tutor as the main teacher. For these learners the weekly lesson carries syllabus coverage, not just exam practice.

Whichever route a family takes, the pattern is the same: the decision is made by Grade 8 or 9 more often than before, and parents want a way to test a subject for a term without moving house. Online tuition from home allows exactly that trial.

02

How do Kerala State Board, CBSE, IB and IGCSE differ for a Peringathur student?

Most Peringathur children study the Kerala syllabus prepared by SCERT, with public exams at SSLC in Class 10 and Higher Secondary in Class 12. CBSE schools in the Kannur and Kuthuparamba belt offer an alternative with national board papers. Both reward careful recall and clear working, and both put weight on final-year exams.

The IB asks a different kind of work. Besides exams, a student writes internal assessments, an Extended Essay and does CAS activities. IGCSE sits between the two: subject papers set by Cambridge or Pearson, no coursework burden in most subjects, but a wide spread of subjects and a Core or Extended tier decision.

The comparison below is descriptive, not a ranking.

03

What does IB or IGCSE tuition cost for a Peringathur student, and why do quotes differ?

IB Gram does not publish prices. You receive a rate in writing before the trial is booked, and the trial lesson comes first, so you can judge the teaching before any money is involved. The quote you get is shaped by four things that are easy to understand.

The first is the course. A tutor for IB Physics HL or Maths AA HL has a narrower talent pool than one for IGCSE Business Studies, and that shows in the rate. Familiarity with the current IB syllabus matters as well, since mathematics and the sciences have been revised in recent cycles.

The second is frequency. One session a week costs a different amount in total from three, and many Kerala families add lessons before an exam season and reduce them afterwards.

The third is the starting point. A student arriving from the Kerala syllabus with gaps in algebra or lab writing needs more preparation from the tutor than a student polishing past papers.

Online delivery also removes the travel bill. A weekly journey from Peringathur to Kannur or Thalassery for a class costs fuel or bus fare and most of an evening, and that is worth weighing when you compare a screen-based tutor with a centre in another town.

04

Is online tuition better than a coaching centre, a local teacher or self-study here?

The first thing to know is that no option is right for every child. Kuthuparamba and Thalassery have tuition centres that do solid work for Kerala and CBSE syllabi and for entrance preparation. They are less able to help with IB Chemistry HL or IGCSE Co-ordinated Sciences, because few teachers there have taught those courses.

An online tutor is picked for the exact syllabus, which makes the match closer, but loses the daily rhythm of a physical class. For that reason, many families keep a school for general teaching and add an online tutor in the two or three subjects that are hardest.

Private teachers working from home are plentiful, and a retired science teacher can be superb with a nervous Grade 9 student. The limit is the small number who know IB command terms or Cambridge mark schemes.

Self-study with past papers suits a disciplined IGCSE learner, though without someone to explain lost marks the same slips repeat.

The table puts the options next to each other.

05

When are the exams, and how does North Malabar's year affect study time?

IB Diploma written papers fall mainly in May, with a November session in some schools, and results are released in early July and early January. Cambridge IGCSE runs in the February or March, May or June, and October or November series. Pearson Edexcel IGCSE has January, May or June and November windows. Which one a student sits depends on the school or centre.

Kerala adds its own calendar. The south-west monsoon arrives in early June and keeps heavy rain across Kannur until about September, causing power cuts and weak mobile data. Onam in late August or September brings a long break, Christmas in December another, and Vishu in April another still.

North Malabar also has the Theyyam season, roughly from November to May, when temple festivals draw entire neighbourhoods out at night. Evening lessons simply move earlier or later on festival days, which is easier to arrange with a private tutor than with a fixed batch.

Mark your own calendar from the table below and tell the tutor about school tests and local events at the first lesson.

06

Where can a Peringathur student go after the IB or IGCSE?

Many Kerala families have a Gulf or Western link, so overseas study is a real option and the IB Diploma and Cambridge A Levels are read directly by universities in the UK, USA, Canada, Australia and Europe. An IGCSE result is a Grade 10 record that opens A Level or Diploma places, and some universities look at it too.

For Indian study, an IB Diploma is recognised for admission through Association of Indian Universities equivalence, and central universities generally ask for a CUET-UG score on top. Kerala's own professional-entrance exams, such as KEAM for engineering, set their own conditions for non-state-board candidates, so check the current notice each year.

NEET-UG and JEE Main both accept IB and Cambridge students who studied the needed science subjects, but the rules are revised from time to time. A tutor can flag early if a Higher Level choice might narrow a later route.

Common local destinations for degrees include Kannur University and its affiliated colleges, Calicut and Kerala universities, and professional colleges in Kozhikode, Bengaluru and Chennai.

Tutors coach the subjects only. Applications, personal statements and counselling stay with the family and school.

07

How are IB Maths and the sciences taught to a Peringathur student?

Choosing between the two maths courses comes first. Analysis and Approaches suits a student aiming at engineering, physics or mathematics and leans on algebra and calculus. Applications and Interpretation suits future economists, biologists and business students, with more statistics and technology.

A tutorial normally begins with a worked example, followed by a similar problem the student tries alone and a line-by-line debrief. At Higher Level, Paper 3 questions that need extended reasoning are introduced early so they do not appear for the first time in the exam.

The sciences each need a different habit. Physics rewards a clean method and units, Chemistry rewards data-booklet fluency and mechanism drawing, and Biology rewards exact vocabulary and a close reading of command terms such as outline, discuss and evaluate.

For the science internal assessment, the tutor helps a student shape a researchable question, think through variables and discuss uncertainty. The report is the student's own writing.

North Malabar supplies good material for Environmental Systems and Societies and Biology fieldwork: laterite plateaus, mangrove stretches along the rivers and the heavy monsoon runoff give concrete cases for evaluation.

08

IGCSE Core or Extended, and which subjects suit a Peringathur student?

Core papers cap the grade at a C, while Extended papers reach A star. A student aiming for A Level or the Diploma in maths and sciences usually takes Extended. The school or exam centre makes the entry, but a diagnostic lesson with a tutor informs the decision.

The subject basket is wider than the Kerala Class 10 pattern. One candidate might take mathematics, two sciences, English, a language and a business subject, adding Additional Mathematics when the Diploma is the next step.

Practical work is handled differently by each board. Cambridge sciences offer either a practical or a written alternative, and Pearson Edexcel has its own arrangement. A private candidate without a lab can still learn the methods from diagrams, videos and sample data.

Language choice needs early thought. English First Language rewards voice and structure, English as a Second Language rewards accuracy, and Malayalam and Hindi appear as second-language options at some schools.

A working routine for any subject is to confirm the syllabus code, attempt a past paper under time, mark it against the scheme, and repeat on harder material.

How do you start online IB or IGCSE home tuition in Peringathur?

Begin by writing to support@ibgram.com or messaging +91 7439 368 115 on WhatsApp with the programme, subject, level, school or exam board, and the exam session your child is aiming for.

We then propose a tutor and offer a free trial lesson. Use that class to see whether the explanations are clear and whether your child is comfortable asking questions. You can request a different tutor at no charge if the fit is wrong.

After you decide, the rate is confirmed in writing, a weekly slot is fixed, and each lesson ends with a short note listing what was covered and what to practise.

For the first week, check the practical side: a laptop or tablet, headphones, a quiet corner and, in monsoon months, a backup such as a mobile hotspot.

Where we tutor

Peringathur and nearby places where our online IB and IGCSE tutoring is used

Lessons happen on a screen, so this list is about local context: which stretch of North Malabar a family lives in, how long the school run is, and how the evening looks once the bus has dropped everyone home.

Peringathur town

The main junction where shops, banks and bus stops cluster, a short ride from several aided and private schools.

Mokeri

A neighbouring village with a long-established college and school presence and many teacher and government-employee households.

Kuthuparamba

The taluk headquarters, with more coaching centres and tuition options, mostly for Kerala and CBSE syllabi.

Panoor

A busy town to the west on the road towards Thalassery, with many Gulf-linked families.

Kolavallur

A quieter village between Panoor and Peringathur where afternoons are calm and online lessons run without interruption.

Chokli

On the Thalassery side, a residential area where families weigh schools in Thalassery against Kannur.

Thalassery direction

A historic town with older schools and Brennen College, about a half-hour drive on a clear day.

Kannur airport road (Mattannur side)

Growth along the airport corridor has brought newer housing and returnee families wanting international curricula.

Pathiriyad and Kadirur belt

Rural pockets where internet reliability varies by ward, so a wired or dual-connection setup helps.

Mahe border

The Puducherry enclave of Mahe lies a short way off, with its own schools and a mixed Kerala and French-era heritage.

Kannur is the district headquarters and the closest place where an international campus has been confirmed, around an hour away by road. GEM International School is the name families raise most.

  • GEM International School

Nearby: Kochi

Kochi is a long journey south, so it suits boarding or relocation rather than a daily school run. These schools are named on neighbouring Kerala city pages as offering IB or Cambridge programmes.

  • The Choice School, Ambalamugal
  • TIPS Kochi
  • Cochin International School

Nearby: Perinthalmanna, Malappuram district

Reached down the coast through Kozhikode, this campus is the closest confirmed Cambridge-linked option south of Kannur for some families.

  • Silvermount International School, Perinthalmanna

Peringathur itself: local options are limited

We have not been able to confirm an IB or Cambridge school inside Peringathur and will not name one we cannot verify. Local schools follow the Kerala State Board or CBSE, which is why online tuition is the usual way to follow an international syllabus from home.

The schools above are listed only to show where international syllabi are taught within reach of North Malabar. Our tutoring operates independently of them, of the IB, of Cambridge and of Pearson, and none has endorsed it. Please confirm each school's present offer and admission rules directly.

    Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Peringathur: your questions answered

Can I get IB home tuition in Peringathur?+

Yes, as live online one-to-one tuition taught to your child at home. Tutors do not visit homes in Peringathur, because in-person home tuition runs only in Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR. The lessons are private, with a shared whiteboard and past papers, and are matched to the IB course your child follows. A free trial lesson comes first so you can judge the teaching before paying.

Is there any IB or IGCSE school in Peringathur?+

We have not been able to confirm one. Local schools follow the Kerala State Board or CBSE. The nearest confirmed international campus we know of is GEM International School in Kannur, while Kochi and Perinthalmanna have further options. Please check each school directly, because offers and intakes change. An online tutor lets your child follow an IB or IGCSE syllabus without moving.

How does IGCSE home tuition work for Peringathur students?+

An IGCSE tutor teaches live on video at an agreed weekly time, following the Cambridge or Edexcel specification your child is entered for. Lessons use past papers and mark schemes, and each ends with a written note. The tutor is picked for the subject and tier, and you can ask for a change if the fit is wrong.

How much does IB or IGCSE tuition cost in Peringathur?+

We do not publish prices; the rate is quoted in writing before you book a trial. It depends on the subject and level, the number of lessons each week, the tutor's experience with the current syllabus and how much groundwork the student needs. Online teaching also saves the cost and time of travelling to Kannur or Thalassery.

Which IB subjects are most requested by Peringathur families?+

Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology are asked for most, followed by Economics, Business Management and English. Many students come from the Kerala syllabus and need help with IB-style written answers, so tutors often combine content teaching with practice in command terms. Language support in Malayalam B and Hindi B is available as well.

My child is returning from the Gulf in the middle of the school year. Can tuition help?+

Yes, and it is a common situation. A tutor can find out where your child stands, fill gaps in the syllabus and keep the pace while you arrange admission at a school in Kannur, Kochi or elsewhere. Lessons can begin within days of the trial, and the written notes help a new school see what has been covered.

Can tutors write my child's IA, Extended Essay or TOK essay?+

No. Tutors coach and give feedback on practice work, but Internal Assessments, Extended Essays, Theory of Knowledge essays and coursework must be the student's own. A tutor can explain the criteria, discuss how to choose a research question and comment on a plan, which is permitted coaching, while the writing stays with the student.

How does the Kerala State Board differ from IGCSE for a Class 9 student?+

The Kerala syllabus sets a fixed textbook path ending in the SSLC exam, while IGCSE offers subject choice and external papers with Core or Extended tiers. IGCSE tends to ask for more application and explanation. Students moving across usually need support with written answers and unfamiliar command words, and a tutor can build those skills over a few months.

Do you cover IB PYP and MYP, or only the Diploma?+

We cover all four IB programmes: PYP, MYP, DP and CP. For PYP the work is mostly reading, writing and number confidence. For MYP it is mathematics reasoning, sciences, language and the Personal Project. Diploma tutoring is the most common request, but younger students who start early often find the later years easier.

What internet speed do online lessons need in Peringathur?+

A stable connection of a few megabits per second is enough for video and a shared whiteboard. Fibre broadband is better than mobile data, and during heavy monsoon weeks it is wise to keep a mobile hotspot as a backup. If a connection drops, the tutor and student can resume and the missed time is rescheduled.

Can we change the tutor if my child does not click with the first one?+

Yes. If the trial or any later lesson does not suit your child, tell us and we will propose another tutor. There is no charge for asking. Fit matters, because a student who feels comfortable asking basic questions learns faster than one who stays silent in front of a stern teacher.

Which IGCSE boards do you support?+

Both Cambridge International and Pearson Edexcel. Each board has different paper structures, and subject codes differ, so tell us the code or the board when you write. For example, Cambridge Mathematics is 0580 and Edexcel Mathematics A is 4MA1. The tutor follows the specification and past papers for your child's entry.

When are the IB and IGCSE exams, and when should preparation start?+

IB written exams are mostly held in May, with a November session at some schools, while Cambridge IGCSE has February or March, May or June and October or November series and Edexcel has January, summer and November windows. Serious preparation usually starts six to nine months before, with timed papers added in the last three months.

Is tuition from Peringathur possible for Diploma students who board elsewhere?+

Yes. A boarder or a student staying with relatives in another city can take evening or weekend lessons from wherever they are, as long as there is a device and a connection. The tutor works with the school syllabus, and the written note after each session can be shared with parents in Peringathur.

Are you connected with the IB, Cambridge, Pearson or any school?+

No. IB Gram is an independent tutoring service with no affiliation to the International Baccalaureate Organization, Cambridge, Pearson Edexcel or any school mentioned on this page. Schools are named only to show where international syllabi are taught near Peringathur. We make no claim about admissions or exam results, and we cannot guarantee any grade.

How do I book a free trial lesson?+

Write to support@ibgram.com or message +91 7439 368 115 on WhatsApp with your child's programme, subject, level, board and exam session. We reply with a suggested tutor and a trial time, usually after school hours or at a weekend. The trial carries no obligation, and the rate is shared in writing before you decide.
