IB and IGCSE Tutors and Online Home Tuition in Pauri

Pauri sits high on the Garhwal ridge, a long drive from the nearest international school. A family looking for home tuition for an IB or IGCSE student here gets private one-to-one lessons over video, since our tutors do not travel up to Pauri, and the child studies from a desk in their own house.

  • Lessons that work on a modest hill-town connection, with a plan for dropped calls
  • Online only in Pauri, because home visits run solely in Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR
  • A first lesson at no charge, then a written rate before any commitment
  • No tie to any Garhwal school, to the IB, to Cambridge or to Pearson

IB & IGCSE in Pauri

International curricula from a Garhwal ridge town

Pauri is the headquarters of its district, and most of what a family here needs sits within a few lanes: the collectorate, the courts, the Intermediate college, a couple of respected private schools, the road down to Srinagar. What the town does not have, as far as we could establish, is a school teaching the IB or Cambridge IGCSE. The schools we could trace in Pauri follow the Uttarakhand Board or CBSE, so a child who needs an international syllabus is nearly always a child with plans that stretch past the ridge.

Those plans take a few familiar shapes. A parent in the army, the forest service or the district administration expects a posting to a city with international schools. A family has a daughter or son already boarding in Dehradun or Mussoorie and wants support during term and at home in the holidays. Some households have relatives working overseas and are weighing a foreign university. A few simply decide that the Indian board route is too narrow for the subjects their child likes.

A search for home tuition deserves a plain answer. IB Gram tutors do not climb to Pauri; in-person visits are limited to Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR. What we offer is online home tuition: the student sits in their own room, the tutor appears on a laptop, and the lesson stays one to one. For a town where the nearest specialist could be a day's travel away, this is the practical option, and it takes less out of a week than a bus to Kotdwar.

IB Gram is an independent tutoring service. We are not affiliated with the IB, Cambridge, Pearson or any Pauri school. Tutors coach students in their subjects and exam technique; they never write an Internal Assessment, Extended Essay, TOK essay or any coursework on a student's behalf.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to Pauri school years

A student in Pauri can follow any stage of the IB continuum with an online tutor. The sections below describe what each stage asks of a learner and what we adjust for a family living in the Garhwal hills.

PYPNursery to Class 5, ages 3-11

IB Primary Years Programme

Learning is organised around big ideas such as how places change or how people share resources. Children inquire, make things and reflect, and the last year ends with a self-chosen Exhibition instead of a test.

For a Pauri child coming from a Hindi-medium or Garhwali-speaking home, short English reading and speaking sessions matter most, with inquiry topics drawn from the child's own valley and village.

MYPClass 6-10, ages 11-16

IB Middle Years Programme

Eight subject groups are assessed against published criteria, and interdisciplinary units connect them. Students finish with a Personal Project that they plan, carry out and reflect on over many weeks.

Students who switch from the Uttarakhand Board often meet criterion-based marking for the first time. We practise reading a rubric, drafting to it and revising, in weekly sessions rather than last-minute cramming.

DPClass 11-12, ages 16-19

IB Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three or four at Higher Level, together with Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS. Final papers fall in May or November, and internal assessments feed into most subject grades.

A Diploma candidate from the Pauri area usually studies at a boarding school in the Doon valley or registers elsewhere, so online tutors act as the extra specialist for the subjects that feel hardest at home.

CPClass 11-12, ages 16-19

IB Career-related Programme

Two or more DP courses are joined to a career-related study, a reflective project, language development and personal and professional skills. It suits students heading for applied degrees or skilled work.

CP is rare in India and we know of none in Garhwal. A student on it elsewhere can still have us teach the DP courses and the language element, and we are open when another route fits better.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around Pauri school timetables

Because Pauri has no local IB or IGCSE tutor on call and we do not run lessons in homes there, the format is online. Three set-ups cover most families.

Weekly one-to-one online lessons

A single tutor teaches a single student, at the same slot each week, over video with a shared digital whiteboard.

  • Sixty to ninety minutes per session
  • Scanned notes and past-paper work exchanged afterwards
  • Tutor changed at no cost if the fit is poor

Online home tuition at the student's own desk

The family's own room becomes the classroom. No bus, no hill road, and a parent can look in without being in the lesson.

  • Works from a basic broadband or 4G hotspot
  • Recording on request so a missed call is not a lost lesson
  • Tutors do not visit homes in Pauri

Exam-season intensive blocks

In the weeks before May and November sessions, lessons increase to two or three a week with timed papers and marked feedback.

  • Past-paper mapping by topic
  • Mark scheme walkthroughs
  • A written plan for the final fortnight

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Pauri

01

Which schools and families in Pauri choose IB and IGCSE?

  • Returning families with a child mid-way through an international programme
  • Government, forest and defence households expecting a transfer
  • Boarders at Dehradun or Mussoorie schools studying at home in holidays
  • Families planning a foreign university from a Garhwal base

In Pauri itself, very few families do, and honesty on this point matters more than a long list of school names. The schools we could trace in the town teach the Uttarakhand Board syllabus or CBSE. Where an IB or Cambridge/Edexcel IGCSE student appears in Pauri, they have usually come in from somewhere else, or are about to leave for somewhere else.

The first group are returnees. A couple who spent years in Dubai, Singapore or a metro city bring their children home to look after elderly parents or to run a family orchard, and the children's schooling is mid-stream in an international programme. Switching abruptly to a state-board classroom in Class 10 or 11 would cost them a year, so a tutor who knows the IB or IGCSE specification is a lifeline.

The second group are officials and uniformed families. Posting to Pauri is often temporary, and a child enrolled in a CBSE school may need to be ready for an international school in the next city. Revisiting algebra the IGCSE way, or starting English literature analysis early, is cheap insurance.

The third group send their children to boarding schools in the Doon valley while keeping a Pauri house. When the term ends, the family wants the same standard of teaching during the long summer and winter breaks, which is where a steady online tutor fits in.

02

Uttarakhand Board, CBSE, IB or IGCSE: which suits a Pauri student?

The right board depends on what the child wants to do at eighteen, not on prestige. The Uttarakhand Board has deep local reach and is linked to the state's own entrance routes. CBSE suits families who might move across India. The IB and IGCSE make sense when the target is a degree abroad or in a course that values breadth and writing.

A fair way to compare is by how marks are earned. Under the state board and CBSE, marks are largely earned in a final examination, with practicals and projects on the side. In the IB Diploma, a sizeable slice of many subjects is earned by coursework that happens over months, and the exams ask for explanation as much as recall. IGCSE sits between the two, with examined papers and a lighter practical component.

Cost of access also differs. There are no IB or IGCSE schools in Pauri that we could confirm, so choosing either route means boarding in Dehradun, moving to a city, or studying as a private candidate with online help, each with its own bill and each worth pricing before deciding.

None of this is an argument against the local boards. A strong state-board student who aims at a Uttarakhand medical or engineering seat should usually stay put. The point is simply to know what each path asks before committing years to it.

What does IB and IGCSE tuition cost for a Pauri student?

  • Subject level and exam tier drive the hourly rate
  • Number and length of weekly sessions change the monthly total
  • Exam-season blocks cost more than regular weeks
  • No travel, accommodation or hostel charges for online lessons

IB Gram does not publish a price list, and we would rather quote you in writing after a trial lesson than guess in a paragraph. What we can do is explain what moves the number, so a Pauri family can budget with open eyes.

The first driver is the level of the subject. A Class 8 mathematics tutor and a Higher Level Physics specialist are not interchangeable, and the rate follows experience with the specific syllabus. The second is frequency: one session a week is the baseline, and most families add sessions in the last two months before an exam series. The third is length, since sixty minutes is common and ninety is used for science and mathematics problem sets.

Because teaching happens over video, you pay nothing for travel, and a Pauri family also avoids the hidden costs of the alternatives, such as a night in Dehradun, a taxi fare to a coaching class or a lost day of school. That saving can be larger than the tuition difference between two tutors.

Before booking, you will receive a written rate and schedule. If the first lesson is not right, you may ask for a different tutor without paying for a second trial, and nothing is due until you choose to continue.

04

Online home tuition, a coaching class, a local tutor or self-study: how do they compare?

Pauri families choose between four realistic options, and each fails in a different place. Coaching classes in Srinagar or Dehradun offer batches but are mostly built around JEE, NEET and board exams, and they seldom teach IB or IGCSE content. Local private tutors in Pauri are usually very good with the Uttarakhand Board and CBSE, but a specialist in IB Chemistry HL is not a name you will find by asking at the market.

Self-study with books and past papers works for a disciplined student, and many IGCSE candidates do exactly that. Its weakness is feedback. A student can read a mark scheme but cannot easily see why their own answer lost marks, especially in extended written responses.

Online tuition from IB Gram removes the location problem. A tutor who has taught the exact specification meets your child weekly, marks their work, and explains the gap between what they wrote and what the examiner wanted. It is not free of limits: it needs a working connection and a quiet corner, and it cannot replace a school that registers your child for the exams.

Many families blend approaches, combining their child's school or a local teacher with one online specialist for the hardest subject.

05

What do the exam calendar and a Garhwal year mean for study?

IB Diploma candidates sit exams in May or November, and IGCSE candidates in the May-June, October-November and sometimes February-March series, depending on the board and centre. Whichever is chosen, a Pauri student has to plan around a year that is shaped by weather as much as by school.

Monsoon from late June to September brings landslides that can close the roads to Srinagar and Kotdwar and cut power for hours. Students who plan to travel for a mock exam or a practical in that window should schedule extra buffer, and online lessons should be set at hours when the power is more dependable.

Winter from December can be cold at this altitude, with school hours shortened and holidays extended. Many families use that break for a catch-up block, because the long evenings suit sustained study. Festival weeks such as Diwali and the local Nanda Devi gatherings pull relatives home, so we agree a calendar in advance.

Exam stress peaks in March and April for Class 10 and 12 board students, so IB and IGCSE learners in town often feel they are studying alone. A fixed weekly session gives structure when the household is busy with other things.

A year of study in Pauri

06

Where can IB and IGCSE students from Pauri go after school?

  • AIU equivalence and CUET-UG for Indian public universities
  • JEE Main and NEET-UG eligibility to be checked with the exam authority
  • UK, Canada, Australia, US and European universities for overseas routes
  • Private universities and liberal arts colleges in the big cities

A Garhwal student with an IB Diploma or IGCSE-based A Level results has three broad pathways. The first is a university in India, where the Association of Indian Universities issues equivalence for IB Diploma and recognised overseas qualifications, and CUET-UG scores are used for admission to many central universities. HNB Garhwal University at Srinagar is the nearest, and Delhi University, Banaras Hindu University and others draw Uttarakhand students after CUET.

Engineering and medicine need extra thought. JEE Main and NEET-UG have their own eligibility rules, and IB students must make sure their school or board gives them the required equivalence and subject combination. We tell families this up front; we do not make eligibility decisions, and the exam authority's current notice should always be checked.

The second pathway is overseas study. Universities in the UK, Canada, Australia, the United States and Europe accept IB and IGCSE-based qualifications, with predicted grades and subject prerequisites varying. The third is a private Indian university or a liberal arts programme in Delhi NCR, Pune or Bengaluru that values the IB's writing and research skills.

Starting early is the key advantage, because some Higher Level choices are difficult to change after Class 11 begins. A conversation in Class 9 or 10 about subject packages saves a stressful reshuffle later.

07

How do IB Mathematics AA and AI, and the sciences, work with a tutor?

IB Mathematics Analysis and Approaches is the pure and calculus-heavy course; Applications and Interpretation leans on data, modelling and technology. Parents in Pauri often ask which is easier. Neither is, but the better choice is the one that fits the university course.

Our tutors teach AA by building fluency: derivatives, integrals, sequences and proof in short daily sets. For AI, the emphasis is on reading a context, choosing the right test or model, and presenting steps clearly. Calculator technique is practised in each lesson because the paper 2 style rewards speed.

In IB Physics, Chemistry and Biology, content is only half the battle. The data-based questions, the practical investigation and the extended responses decide grades. A weekly online lesson can run a past-paper question live, with the student sharing their screen or camera as they write on paper, and the tutor marks it against the published criteria.

The internal assessment is where we are strict. Tutors may discuss method and explain how marks are awarded, but they do not suggest data, write conclusions or edit the report. The student owns every word.

08

IGCSE Core or Extended, and how should a Pauri student choose subjects?

  • Core versus Extended tier is decided before the course starts, not in the last month
  • English, mathematics and a science form the usual anchor
  • Private candidates need a registered exam centre
  • Tutors coach; they do not write coursework

Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel both offer Core and Extended (Foundation and Higher on the Pearson side) tiers in subjects like mathematics and the sciences. Core caps the highest grade a student can reach; Extended opens the full range. A student aiming at IB Higher Level or A Level mathematics should plan for Extended from the start.

A typical subject package contains five or six to nine subjects: English, a second language, mathematics, one or more sciences, and a humanities or computing subject. For a Pauri child who speaks Garhwali or Hindi at home, English as a Second Language or First Language English is a deliberate decision rather than a default.

The assessment style is mostly paper-based. That suits students who learn well from a steady drill, but it also means gaps in understanding are exposed quickly. One weekly online lesson per subject is a realistic load for a student who has a school or a self-study timetable alongside.

Where a student studies as a private candidate, the exam centre matters as much as the tutor. We help families ask the right questions about registration deadlines, coursework entries and practical components, but we do not register candidates.

Where we tutor

Pauri localities and the towns around them we teach

Lessons are online, so a family's address matters mostly for connectivity and daily rhythm. These are the neighbourhoods and nearby towns that Garhwal families write from, with a note on school context and timing.

Pauri town centre

Offices, courts and the main market cluster here; government employees' children often study at the Intermediate college or a private school nearby, with school over by mid-afternoon.

Kandoliya

The wooded hill above town with the Kandoliya temple and the park; quiet residential lanes, and some homes catch unreliable signal, so we test the connection in the trial lesson.

Nagdev

A forested stretch known for its temple; families here usually travel by shared taxi, so evening lessons after the last school run work well.

Bubakhal

A smaller settlement close to town; students who attend school in Pauri study in the evening, after chores and the walk home.

Srinagar Garhwal

The river town about thirty kilometres away that houses a central university, medical college and several coaching classes; many Pauri parents compare it with online options.

Kotdwar

The foothill gateway and rail head to the plains; some families split time between Kotdwar and Pauri, and lessons follow the child wherever the wifi is.

Lansdowne

The Garhwal Rifles cantonment town; defence families with transfers behind and ahead of them often want a curriculum that travels.

Khirsu

A quiet village above Pauri with orchards and homestays; students here rely on mobile hotspots, so we plan shorter, well-prepared sessions.

Pabau and Thalisain side

Remote blocks of the district where the nearest secondary school may involve a long walk; online evening study fills real gaps.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Pauri

Pauri: local boards

We could not confirm an IB or Cambridge/Edexcel school in Pauri. Local secondary schools follow the Uttarakhand Board or CBSE, so students taking IB or IGCSE do so as private candidates, through a registered centre elsewhere, or after moving to a boarding school.

    Nearby: Dehradun (the Doon valley)

Dehradun is the closest large city with international-curriculum schools, around five hours by road from Pauri depending on route and weather. Pauri families who board their children usually look here first.

    • SelaQui International School
    • Unison World School
    • Ecole Globale International Girls' School

    Nearby: Mussoorie

A hill-station option with a long-established international school; fees and admissions are handled directly with the school.

    • Woodstock School

    Nearby: Delhi NCR

Some Pauri families relocate to the National Capital Region, where international schools are plentiful. Tuition at home is available there only in Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR.

    • Pathways World School
    • Lancers International School
    • GD Goenka World School

School names appear only to show where international curricula are taught in and around Uttarakhand. IB Gram is an independent tutoring service and has no affiliation, partnership or endorsement arrangement with any named school, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson. Check each school's own website for current affiliation and admissions.

    Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Pauri: your questions answered

Are there IB tutors in Pauri?+

Yes, online. IB Gram tutors teach Pauri students live over video, one to one, across PYP, MYP and DP subjects. We could not confirm any local IB tutor or IB school in Pauri itself, so online lessons are the practical route for most families. The tutor is based elsewhere in India and teaches on Indian Standard Time. A free trial lesson shows how the format works before any rate is agreed in writing.

Do tutors come to my home in Pauri?+

No. IB Gram tutors do not visit homes in Pauri. Home tuition in person is available only in Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR. In Pauri, home tuition means online home tuition: your child studies at their own desk and the tutor teaches over video. The lesson is still private and one to one, and parents can sit nearby, without anyone needing to travel up the hill roads.

What internet speed does an online IB lesson need?+

A steady connection of a few Mbps is enough for a video lesson with a shared whiteboard. A fixed broadband line or a good 4G connection both work. If your area drops signal, we test during the trial lesson, lower video quality, switch to audio plus a photographed worksheet, or agree a recording so nothing is lost. Tell us about power cuts too, so slots can move to dependable hours.

Which IGCSE boards do you cover?+

We cover Cambridge International IGCSE and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE. Tutors teach to the exact specification code, so mathematics 0580 and 4MA1 are treated as different courses. Tell us the board and code on your child's entry or syllabus and we match a tutor accordingly. Subjects include mathematics, the sciences, English, Hindi, geography and computer science.

Can my child take IB or IGCSE exams from Pauri?+

Only through a school or centre that is registered with the exam board. We could not confirm one in Pauri, so students usually sit exams at a registered centre in another city, such as in the Doon valley, or study at a boarding school. IB Gram does not register candidates. We can help you ask a centre the right questions about dates, fees and practical components.

How much does IB or IGCSE tuition cost in Pauri?+

We quote in writing after the free trial rather than publishing a price list. The rate depends on the subject, the level (Higher or Standard, Core or Extended), the tutor's experience and how often you meet. Families in Pauri save on travel and lodging because lessons are online. Exam-season blocks cost more than regular weeks, and you see the full figure before you agree to anything.

My child studies in the Uttarakhand Board. Can they move to IGCSE or IB?+

Often yes, but timing matters. The easiest move is at Class 9 for IGCSE or Class 11 for the IB Diploma, since the syllabuses start fresh. A student moving later needs bridging work in mathematics, science and English writing. A tutor can run a diagnostic lesson, tell you where the gaps are and suggest whether a switch is realistic or whether staying on the local board is wiser.

Do you help with the IA, Extended Essay or TOK essay?+

We coach, but we never write. A tutor can explain the assessment criteria, discuss how to plan an investigation or outline an argument, and read a draft and say where marks may be lost. The research question, data, analysis and wording must be the student's own. Exam boards treat ghost-written coursework as malpractice, and we will not put a child at that risk.

How are lessons scheduled around Pauri's weather and power cuts?+

We set a weekly slot at an hour that works for your household, usually late afternoon or evening in IST, and keep a spare slot in reserve. During monsoon landslides or winter storms, a session can move without penalty. If a call drops, the tutor resumes by audio or reschedules, and a recording can be sent so the child does not fall behind.

Is IB or IGCSE accepted for admission to Indian universities?+

Largely yes, though the route differs. Many central and state universities accept IB Diploma and recognised IGCSE-plus-A Level qualifications through Association of Indian Universities equivalence, and CUET-UG is used for several public universities. Rules change each year, so always check the university's current prospectus. IB Gram does not decide admission or equivalence; we help with the subject learning.

Can my child sit JEE or NEET after the IB or IGCSE?+

Possibly, if the subject combination and equivalence rules are met. JEE Main and NEET-UG set their own eligibility criteria, which can change, and IB or IGCSE students normally need the right subjects and an equivalence certificate where required. Please check the National Testing Agency's current notice. Our tutors can strengthen the physics, chemistry, biology and mathematics base, but we do not run entrance coaching.

My child is in Class 5. Is IB PYP tutoring useful?+

It can be, but gently. PYP is built on inquiry rather than exams, so a tutor supports English fluency, number sense and the Exhibition project without piling on worksheets. Sessions are shorter, often thirty to forty-five minutes, and playful. If your child's school is not a PYP school, we can still introduce inquiry-style learning, but we will be clear about what is and is not part of an official programme.

What happens if we do not like the tutor?+

You can ask for a different tutor at any time, and we will find a new match without charging for another trial. A mismatch usually shows up as lessons that feel too fast, too slow or too impersonal. Tell us what was off, and we will adjust teaching style, level or personality. Your written rate stays the same unless the new tutor's level differs, in which case we tell you first.

Do you offer Hindi as a subject?+

Yes. We teach Hindi A literature and Hindi B language acquisition at the IB level and Hindi as a Second Language for IGCSE. For a Pauri student, it is a comfortable scoring subject in many cases, but only if the written analysis is practised. The tutor works on comprehension, essay structure and Devanagari writing speed, using past papers.

    How do I get started?+

Message us on WhatsApp at +91 7439 368 115 or write to support@ibgram.com with your child's class, board, subjects and the exam session in view. We reply with a suggested tutor and a trial time. The trial lesson is free, takes place over video, and tells you whether the tutor and the connection suit your family before any rate is discussed.

Which Pauri localities do you serve?+

Any home with a working internet connection, including Pauri town, Kandoliya, Nagdev, Bubakhal, Khirsu and villages across the district. Lessons are online, so location matters only for connectivity and timing. Families in Srinagar Garhwal, Kotdwar and Lansdowne also write to us. We never claim a tutor will visit; the only teaching at home that IB Gram offers is in Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR.
