IB & IGCSE in Pathardi

How home tuition for IB and IGCSE works when you live in Pathardi

Pathardi lies in the eastern part of Ahilyanagar district, the district many people still know as Ahmednagar. Politically it belongs to western Maharashtra, but its dry climate and crops feel closer to Marathwada. It is a town of pilgrims and farmers: the Mohta Devi temple sits a few kilometres away, Madhi's Kanifnath shrine draws devotees from many districts and Bhagwangad is a pilgrimage point on the town's eastern side. Schools here follow the Maharashtra State Board or CBSE, and we found none teaching the IB or a Cambridge or Edexcel IGCSE syllabus.

So when families ask for home tuition they receive something specific. The tutor is in another Indian city, your child is at home, and a video call joins them for a private lesson. Teachers do not drive out to Pathardi; lessons in person at the child's house exist only in Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR. The gain is choice: you ask for a teacher by syllabus, tier and exam session, and the match is made across the whole country.

Who calls? Doctors, engineers and bank officers who grew up here, studied in Pune or Mumbai and have come home. Landowning and sugar-factory families who now think about university abroad. Parents who work in Ahilyanagar's MIDC or the defence establishments around Ahilyanagar and plan a transfer. Each has the same question: how do we keep an international course going where no classroom teaches it?

We are an independent tutoring service. IB Gram has no affiliation with the International Baccalaureate, Cambridge, Pearson or any named school, and our tutors never write a student's internal assessments, Extended Essay, TOK essay or coursework. They explain, question and coach.

At a glance

  • Private live lessons for IB PYP, MYP and DP and for Cambridge and Edexcel IGCSE
  • Online in Pathardi; house visits are limited to Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR
  • A short written note after each lesson
  • Another tutor on request if the first does not suit
  • Fees confirmed in writing before you book
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to Pathardi school years

Almost all Pathardi children study under the Maharashtra State Board or CBSE until Class 10. These are the four IB stages, described as a tutor would handle them for a family working from home.

PYPNursery to Class 5 (ages 3-11)

IB Primary Years Programme

Classrooms are organised around themes and open questions in place of a bare subject list, and the stage ends in a pupil-led Exhibition.

In Pathardi a PYP request usually belongs to a returnee family whose child began the programme in Pune or Mumbai.

MYPClass 6 to 10 (ages 11-16)

IB Middle Years Programme

Eight subject groups are graded against criteria and the stage closes with a Personal Project. Pupils have to justify what they claim and apply what they know.

With no MYP class close by, the tutor restates the criteria in plain language and shows sample answers at every level.

DPClasses 11 and 12 (ages 16-19)

IB Diploma Programme

The Diploma pairs three Higher Level and three Standard Level subjects with the Extended Essay, TOK and CAS, scored out of 45 with up to three bonus points.

Diploma interest around Pathardi comes from families aiming at medicine, engineering, agriculture sciences and study abroad.

CPClasses 11 and 12 (ages 16-19)

IB Career-related Programme

A few Diploma courses run alongside a career-related qualification and a reflective project.

No CP school is known around Pathardi, which leaves the academic courses within it as the focus of tutoring.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around Pathardi school timetables

Most Pathardi households follow one of three patterns. The lesson is always a private live call; only the rhythm and the reason change.

Weekly lessons with one tutor

A standing hour with one teacher who works through the specification in sequence and returns photographed homework with comments.

  • Suits IB, MYP and IGCSE
  • An on-screen board stays open
  • Comments returned on each worksheet
  • A teacher who learns the student's ways

International syllabus beside a board school

For a child enrolled in a State Board or CBSE school who follows an IB or IGCSE course on weekday evenings or Sundays.

  • Lessons follow the international syllabus only
  • Timings dodge school unit-test weeks
  • Parents get a monthly progress note
  • Groundwork ahead of a possible move to Pune

Final-weeks intensive

A brief concentrated stretch ahead of the May or November papers, centred on timed practice and correction.

  • Scripts marked to the examiners' schemes
  • Weak topics come back every week
  • Begins a little over a month ahead
  • Fitted around heat, fairs and water cuts

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Pathardi

01

Is there an IB or IGCSE school in Pathardi?

  • No IB or IGCSE school confirmed in Pathardi or Shevgaon
  • Schools follow the Maharashtra State Board or CBSE
  • Typical families: returned professionals, sugar and farming families, transferred staff
  • Verify new schools on ibo.org and the Cambridge directory

Our checks found no school teaching the IB or the Cambridge or Edexcel IGCSE in Pathardi, and none confirmed in nearby Shevgaon either. The schools are State Board institutions in Marathi or semi-English medium, plus a small number of CBSE and private English-medium schools in the town and along the Ahilyanagar road.

The reason is partly geography. Pathardi is a pilgrimage and farming town, and much of the taluka depends on rain that has often been uncertain. Families here invest in education, but the usual aim is a seat in Pune, Mumbai or Ahilyanagar after Class 12, reached through MHT-CET, JEE or NEET. International curricula have not yet followed.

Even so, the interest exists. Pathardi people are strongly connected to Pune, where many relatives live and work, and those relatives talk about IB and Cambridge schools as normal. A child who moves to Pune for Class 9 or 11 may find an international course waiting, and preparing in advance is wise.

If a school here is later authorised, the IB school finder and the Cambridge directory will list it before any tutoring page does. Please check them for any future claim.

02

State Board, CBSE, IB or IGCSE: which one fits a Pathardi child?

These four are not ranked against one another. Each leads somewhere different, and the best choice depends on where the child is likely to live and study after school.

The State Board culminates in the HSC exam and sends most students into MHT-CET, JEE or NEET. CBSE offers a national syllabus that travels easily between states. IGCSE trains applied reasoning in tiered papers over two years. IB broadens things to six subjects plus an essay and service, which suits a child who writes and debates well.

A family that expects to stay in Maharashtra often does best with the State Board and focused CET coaching. The international road is worth thinking about when a move to Pune is likely, when a foreign degree is planned, or when the child learns by explaining.

03

What influences the cost of IB or IGCSE tuition in Pathardi?

  • Level, subject, tutor record and frequency drive the rate
  • You receive a written quote first
  • No money on travel, rent or hostels
  • The first lesson is free

This page carries no price table, since one number would mislead most families. We begin with a talk about the child, the course and the exam month, and a written quote follows.

The subject and level lead: a Higher Level Chemistry teacher is harder to find than a primary reading one. Next come the tutor's history with the exact specification, how many sessions a week you want, and whether the plan is a steady year or a closing push.

For a Pathardi family some costs vanish: fuel to Ahilyanagar, rent for a child sent to Pune, and any surcharge for a tutor who would have to reach a smaller town.

Because the opening lesson is free and complete, you can compare styles before you spend.

04

Online tutor, coaching class, local teacher or self-study: what works in Pathardi?

Coaching in Ahilyanagar, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Pune is geared to MHT-CET, JEE and NEET. Cambridge and IB papers are outside those batches, so a parent asking after IGCSE Chemistry is normally turned away.

A neighbourhood teacher may be excellent at general Science without ever having applied an IB mark scheme. Working alone through past papers suits a few focused students, but a slip stays hidden when no one marks it.

An online tutor who has taught the identical course is the closest stand-in for a school class. The comparison below sets out how the choices stack up.

05

How do drought, fairs and festivals shape the exam year in Pathardi?

IB Diploma papers fall in May and November, and the two IGCSE boards examine in spring, summer and autumn series. Because May is the usual choice in India, last-minute revision happens in April and May, a hot dry spell on the Deccan plateau when electricity demand peaks.

Local rhythms matter. The taluka has seen several dry years, and in a drought summer water shortages disturb family routines. Sugarcane harvesting draws labour from the district between November and April. The Mohta Devi and Kanifnath fairs, Ganeshotsav in September, Navratri and Dussehra in October, and Diwali give long breaks, and the wedding season fills winter.

So the heaviest content teaching goes into the monsoon and post-monsoon months, festival weeks get a lighter timetable, and April's timed papers are scheduled for early morning or evening.

06

Where can a Pathardi student go after IB or IGCSE?

  • AIU equivalence letter for public universities
  • Recheck CUET-UG, JEE Main, NEET-UG and Maharashtra CET notices annually
  • UCAS, direct entry or Common Application abroad
  • Match Diploma subjects to the planned degree

The road after school depends on the certificate, the subjects behind it and the country you have in mind. Sorting out the formalities during Class 11 avoids a later scramble.

Public universities in India usually require a Diploma graduate to bring an equivalence letter from the Association of Indian Universities, while some private ones read the IB score as it stands. CUET-UG states its position on international boards afresh every year. After IGCSE the usual next step is Class 11 at a CBSE, ICSE or IB school, or A Level.

Choice of subjects decides access to medicine and engineering: Biology for NEET-UG, Mathematics for JEE Main, and Physics and Chemistry for both. Quota rules published by Maharashtra's CET cell may differ for international-board applicants, so check them every year.

Abroad, applications go through UCAS for the UK, directly for Canada and Australia, and via the Common Application for the United States. Pune, not far off, has a lively private university sector too. A tutor's part is to build the subject strength under all of these routes.

07

What does a Mathematics or science class look like on video?

An on-screen board takes the place of the classroom blackboard. The tutor writes, the student works on paper by the laptop, and a photo of the page goes back so that handwriting and layout get corrected along with the answer.

Two Diploma Mathematics courses exist. Analysis and Approaches rewards a liking for algebra and calculus and points to engineering or economics; Applications and Interpretation leans on statistics and modelling for commerce, biology and social science. The intended degree is discussed before the form is signed.

For the sciences the tutor maps the specification, drills calculations and definitions and talks over how an investigation could be designed. The student writes the report and gets feedback as questions. Irrigation and soil chemistry examples bring topics home for local students.

Summer power cuts happen, so have a charged laptop and a phone hotspot ready for timed papers.

08

IGCSE Core or Extended: which should a Pathardi student take?

The tiers have different question papers. Core results top out at C, Extended results reach A star, and so the tier sets a student's ceiling.

Anyone heading for the IB Diploma, A Level sciences or a tough engineering stream should usually sit Extended in Mathematics and the sciences. Core is gentler for a subject that causes real difficulty or is studied for breadth. A few months in, the tutor can review the choice and suggest a switch while entries are open.

Subjects fill in the rest. Nearly everyone takes English and Mathematics, then two or three sciences and a business or humanities option. Marathi or Hindi as a second language tends to score reliably here.

Core and Extended belong to Cambridge, Foundation and Higher to Edexcel. Give us your child's board and the pairing follows.

      Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Pathardi: your questions answered

Is it possible to have a tutor sit with my child at home in Pathardi?+

Not in person. Sitting beside a child in the house is something IB Gram does only in Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR. For Pathardi we run the same one-to-one lesson over a video link, so the tutor appears on the laptop while your child works at the family table, with a teacher of your choosing from across the country.

Which schools around Ahilyanagar are affiliated to the IB?+

We came across none in Pathardi, Shevgaon or Ahilyanagar. Local schools teach the Maharashtra State Board or CBSE. School approvals do change, so consult the official IB directory when you hear a rumour. Meanwhile a child on an IB course here learns with an online tutor, or moves to a city such as Pune.

How do I arrange IGCSE tuition at home from Pathardi?+

Write to us with the subject and board, and we propose a Cambridge or Edexcel tutor who has taught it. Lessons then take place on video at times you fix. Since no one needs to travel, you may specify the tier, paper or session you care about, and the tutor will be picked on that basis.

At which centre can a private IGCSE candidate from Pathardi sit exams?+

Any approved centre that accepts private candidates, in practice usually in Pune, Mumbai or Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. The two boards publish their centre lists and registration cut-offs well before each series, so make contact early to ask about practical papers and fees. We prepare your child; registration and sitting the papers are handled by the family and the centre.

How much will tuition cost, and what happens in the free lesson?+

The free lesson is a normal class with a real tutor, so you see how your child responds. Fees after that vary with the tutor's experience, the subject and level, and the weekly hours, and they are sent in writing before you commit. Higher Level sciences tend to cost more than primary help, and travel never adds to the bill.

What are the most popular subjects among students here?+

Mathematics and the sciences dominate, matching the medical and engineering ambitions common in the district. Economics, Business Management and Environmental Systems and Societies come next, followed by English, Marathi and Hindi. Theory of Knowledge comes up occasionally, and there the tutor discusses ideas while the student writes the essay.

Will an IB Diploma stop my child from sitting NEET, JEE or MHT-CET?+

Usually not, though conditions apply. Agencies publish eligibility rules each year, typically expecting Physics and Chemistry plus Biology or Mathematics, and many want an equivalence certificate. State quotas can differ for international-board students. Pick Diploma subjects with this in mind, and read the current notice well before Class 12.

What if a temple fair, drought or heatwave interrupts a lesson?+

It happens, and the schedule allows for it. Online classes handle road crowds better than travel, though a power or water crisis may still end a call. Sessions lost this way are moved to another day at no charge, and each lesson note records where the class stopped, so nothing is repeated.

Can the tutor complete the Extended Essay or an IA for my child?+

No, and no honest tutor would. Tutors explain what the criteria reward, probe a vague research question and offer general comments on structure. Every sentence, figure and idea must originate with the student. The rule protects your child from a misconduct ruling that could put the Diploma at risk, and it builds skills universities look for.

At what age should IGCSE preparation begin?+

Class 8 or 9 is comfortable. It gives time to shift from reciting answers to explaining reasons, long before exam pressure. Early weeks concentrate on command words and core skills, and past papers follow. One trial class will show how your child copes and how many hours a week make sense.

Which internet connection do we need at home?+

About 5 Mbps that stays steady is plenty for video and a shared board. Broadband or reliable Wi-Fi suits better than mobile data, and a second phone hotspot is a good safety net. If a call drops, the missing minutes are made up later and the note shows what was covered.

Can a student from a Marathi-medium school follow lessons in English?+

Most do after a few weeks. Teaching is in English because the exams are, yet our tutors are Indian and can untangle a hard idea in Hindi, and we try to pair with someone sensitive to the shift. IB Marathi B or IGCSE English as a Second Language can run beside the main subjects.

How many sessions each week are advisable?+

For an ordinary term, a single hour weekly with homework is a sound base. Nearer the exams, two to four sessions a week over about a month is typical. The tutor studies past-paper results, suggests changes, and you can alter the plan whenever you give written notice.

Do you teach both Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel IGCSE?+

Yes, both, with A Level and AS for context. Paper codes, tiers and question styles differ between them, so please say which board your child has entered. A tutor is chosen for that board, and if your child moves to the other board a fresh match is arranged.

How can I get the process started?+

Send a WhatsApp message to +91 7439 368 115 or an email to support@ibgram.com with your child's class, board, subject and a suitable time. We normally suggest a tutor within a few days and schedule the trial. You are under no obligation, and a different tutor can be requested before any payment.
