IB & IGCSE in Pasighat

IB and IGCSE tutors in Pasighat, reaching East Siang families by screen

Pasighat, founded by the British in 1911, is the headquarters of East Siang district and is described as the oldest town in Arunachal Pradesh. It stands about 155 metres above sea level where the Siang, the main tributary of the Brahmaputra, leaves the hills for the Assam plains. About 24,700 people lived here at the 2011 census, mostly Adi, with Nepali, Bengali, Bhojpuri, Hindi and Assamese speakers alongside. Jawaharlal Nehru College, the state's first, was founded here in 1964, and a campus of Arunachal Pradesh University arrived in 2022.

An international school is not part of that picture. What the town does have are families who think beyond the district: government officers and defence families who move between postings, parents with relatives in Delhi, Bengaluru or abroad, and households that see an IB or Cambridge record as a bridge to universities far from the Northeast. They ask where a child can learn the syllabus, and the honest answer is that campuses lie in Guwahati, Kolkata and further afield.

Hence the online format. At the hour you fix, a specialist based in another state appears on your child's screen, solves problems on a whiteboard both can see, marks a phone photograph of the working, and emails a note covering what happened. No tutor is stationed in Pasighat and none turns up in a living room; that service runs solely in Gurugram and some of Delhi NCR. Choosing by expertise rather than by postcode is the benefit.

IB Gram is a stand-alone coaching service. It is not part of the IB organisation, Cambridge, Pearson or any school mentioned on this page, and it cannot pledge exam marks or admission.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to Pasighat school years

In Pasighat the IB tends to come up as a distant possibility, through a posting, a scholarship or a relative's advice. Each stage asks something different of a child, and the notes below show where an outside tutor adds value.

PYPNursery to Class 5, roughly 3 to 12 years

IB Primary Years (PYP)

Children explore themes such as how living things depend on each other, with subjects woven together, and they take part in a collective Exhibition at the end.

Adi, Nepali, Hindi, Assamese and Bengali are all heard in Pasighat, so English is often an additional language and benefits from stories, songs and relaxed conversation.

MYPClass 6 to 10, roughly 11 to 16 years

IB Middle Years (MYP)

Work across eight subject groups is judged against criteria, and every student plans and completes a Personal Project.

A child from an NCERT-based classroom, used to defined textbook answers, learns to justify choices and weigh evidence.

DPClass 11 to 12, roughly 16 to 19 years

IB Diploma (DP)

The Diploma asks for six subject courses plus Theory of Knowledge, an essay of up to 4,000 words and a record of CAS activities; final papers come in May or November.

A Pasighat Diploma student is almost certainly away at school in Guwahati or elsewhere, so tutoring fits a hostel's evening study period.

CPClass 11 to 12, roughly 16 to 19 years

IB Career-related (CP)

Selected Diploma courses sit beside vocational study and a reflective project on skills.

Hardly any Indian school offers it, so most families will only hear of it in passing.

Subject coverage

IB subjects we tutor

A lesson is only as good as the tutor's familiarity with the genuine syllabus: Analysis HL and Applications SL are separate courses, and a gifted Biology teacher may never have scored work against an MYP criterion. Here are the courses we arrange for Pasighat households, along with the pitfall that most often costs marks.

IB Maths: Analysis and Approaches

HL / SL

Differentiation, integration, series and proof; under time pressure, steps of argument get skipped.

IB Maths: Applications and Interpretation

HL / SL

Distributions, regression and finance; the calculator answer needs a sentence of meaning.

IB Physics

HL / SL

Motion, waves and fields; units go missing and written explanations turn vague.

IB Chemistry

HL / SL

Moles, enthalpy and organic synthesis; small arithmetic errors and forgotten conditions are the usual leaks.

IB Biology

HL / SL

Cell biology through to ecology, with the Eastern Himalayan biodiversity hotspot on the doorstep; the knack is to answer the command word exactly as set.

IB Economics

HL / SL

Market diagrams and policy judgement, drawing on rice farming, tea, tourism and cross-border trade in the Siang valley.

IB Business Management

HL / SL

Case work and a project on a real enterprise, perhaps a homestay, a nursery or a transport firm.

IB English A: Language and Literature

HL / SL

Close reading of fresh passages, comparing authors, and preparing the spoken commentary.

IB Computer Science

HL / SL

Problem-solving with code, stored data and networks, finishing with a documented working product.

IB Psychology

HL / SL

How the brain, thought and culture shape behaviour, and how to judge a study fairly in a short space.

IB Hindi and English B

SL / HL

Language support for students whose home languages differ from the school's, centred on accuracy and register.

IB Environmental Systems and Societies

HL / SL

Rivers, rainforest and land use, a natural fit for students living by the Siang.

IB Geography

HL / SL

Monsoon, river hazards and migration, with the Siang valley and its heavy rainfall as a real case.

Theory of Knowledge

DP Core

Asking what turns a claim into knowledge, so that the exhibition and essay emerge in the student's own words.

Extended Essay

DP Core

Picking a question that can really be researched and structuring the argument, while the writing is done solely by the student.

MYP Sciences and Mathematics

MYP 1-5

Investigations and unit tests judged on criteria, which lay the foundation for Diploma-level science.

MYP Humanities and Languages

MYP 1-5

Working from sources, planning essays and keeping the Personal Project moving week by week.

IGCSE coverage

IGCSE subjects we tutor

We know of no school in Pasighat that teaches IGCSE. The requests we receive come from boarders in Guwahati or Kolkata, from families lining up a move, and from candidates preparing privately; the subjects below are those tutors are asked for most, under either board.

IGCSE Mathematics (0580 / 4MA1)

Core / Extended

Arithmetic, algebra, shape and statistics, practising how to lay out each step of the method.

IGCSE Additional Mathematics (0606)

Extended

Introductory calculus, logs and trig identities, a ramp up to IB Maths AA or A Level Mathematics.

IGCSE Physics

Core / Extended

Motion, thermal energy, circuits and nuclear decay, practised through numerical questions that grow harder.

IGCSE Chemistry

Core / Extended

Chemical bonds, speed of reactions, electrolysis and reacting-mass sums, taken one rung at a time.

IGCSE Biology

Core / Extended

Organ systems, inheritance and ecosystems, with neat labelled drawings and well-structured long answers.

IGCSE Combined Science

Core / Extended

Biology, chemistry and physics combined in one qualification, for schools that do not separate them.

IGCSE English First and Second Language

Core / Extended

Reading for sense, condensing a passage, writing with a reader in mind, and the oral component.

IGCSE Business and Economics

Extended

Key vocabulary, worked calculations and case responses worded the way examiners credit.

IGCSE Computer Science

Extended

Flowcharts, logic and small programs, rehearsed with the clock running.

IGCSE Hindi

First / Second Language

Comprehension, writing and grammar for students whose Hindi is an exam subject.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around Pasighat school timetables

Nobody journeys to Pasighat to teach in a family's home, because in-person tuition is confined to Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR. Lessons online come in three shapes, and the right one depends on how close the exams are and how many children are studying.

A weekly lesson at a fixed time

The same tutor and hour every week, following what the school is teaching.

  • Builds understanding across a term
  • A parent may join the trial
  • A brief written recap each time
  • Slots shift around festivals and downpours

Concentrated preparation before papers

Extra classes in the lead-up to mocks, a transfer assessment or the May and November sittings.

  • Built around the newest mock results
  • Genuine past papers with their mark schemes
  • Questions against the clock, then marking
  • Relaxed once the exams are over

Two learners, one tutor

Siblings or cousins at a similar level share one hour and its fee.

  • Works well for MYP and IGCSE Core
  • Each child pays less
  • Solo slots can begin as exams near
  • A single set of notes serves both

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Pasighat

01

Is there an IB or IGCSE school in Pasighat?

  • No verified IB or IGCSE school in Pasighat
  • Guwahati, Kolkata and Delhi NCR hold the nearest campuses
  • Hostel places and family moves are the typical routes
  • Entering IGCSE privately needs an approved exam centre

Not one that we can recommend. Pasighat's schools teach in English and Hindi on the CBSE-linked state syllabus, and none showed up among authorised IB schools or registered Cambridge and Edexcel centres. Saying so beats listing a campus we cannot confirm.

Anyone seeking an international classroom must look a long way off. Guwahati has an international school, Kolkata has older ones with boarding traditions, and Delhi NCR has several more. Every option means a hostel bed or a family move, and the trip from East Siang, whether by road, by ferry or by air, takes time and money. The right answer differs for every household.

A number of families remain in Pasighat and prepare at home. The child carries on at the local school, English and Mathematics receive additional hours, and one or two subjects are entered for IGCSE through an approved exam centre. Cambridge and Edexcel welcome outside candidates in numerous subjects; the IB Diploma, as a rule, requires an authorised school.

Tuition earns its place at three moments: ahead of a move, during the unsettled opening term afterwards, and in the months leading to an examination. No school place is ever promised, and we make that plain from the start.

02

CBSE-linked state syllabus, IB or IGCSE: what changes for a Pasighat pupil?

  • Those aiming at NEET or JEE often remain in the CBSE stream
  • IB and IGCSE suit plans for degrees overseas or across disciplines
  • Moves between routes are easiest at the start of Class 9 or Class 11
  • One trial lesson reveals how the new style feels

Schools in Arunachal Pradesh lean on NCERT textbooks and CBSE-style papers, with board exams at Class 10 and Class 12 held in February and March. Marks come from careful learning of set chapters and neat answers, a pattern that also underlies NEET, JEE and CUET.

Marking works differently on the international side. IB coursework is graded in school and checked by moderators; MYP depends on criteria and projects; IGCSE retains written papers yet frames them around application and data, frequently with a choice between Core and Extended entry.

Newcomers meet a handful of shocks in the first term: written answers must build a case rather than recite a list; Mathematics awards credit for method as well as for the final figure; practical science is marked as an enquiry; English introduces passages nobody has seen; and the exam calendar swings from February towards May and November.

None of the routes is the easy option. The deciding factor is the destination, whether that is medicine or engineering through NEET and JEE, a liberal-arts degree in India, or a university overseas. The table compares the three.

03

How do you price IB or IGCSE lessons for a Pasighat student?

One flat price would fit hardly anyone, since needs differ so widely: a Class 7 pupil wanting weekly MYP Mathematics poses a different task from a Diploma candidate who must master Chemistry HL within eight weeks. When we understand your task, a written quote arrives before you book.

Cost responds to three variables. Which course is being taught: advanced sciences and Maths AA call for tutors whose experience is deep and narrow. How often lessons happen: weekly sessions over a term cost a fraction of several per week before mocks. And whether a sibling or cousin joins, which reduces each child's share.

Much of East Siang's tuition is delivered to groups preparing for board exams and entrance tests, which keeps hourly charges low. A one-to-one specialist costs more for each hour but is needed for fewer, each aimed at your child's weak points, and nobody pays a fare along a hill road that a landslide may close.

To judge value, use the free introductory lesson and the note that follows. If your child can handle something that beat them a week earlier, that answers the question.

04

Which suits Pasighat: an online tutor, a group class, a local teacher or studying alone?

Most East Siang tuition is built around board marks and entrance tests, and very little of it touches an IB internal assessment or the choice of IGCSE tier. For that reason the table puts a single question to each option: is it actually acquainted with the syllabus?

A one-to-one online tutor is, since the match is made on the course. Connectivity is the weak link, because mobile data can falter in heavy rain, so we agree a fallback before lesson one. A group class in town prepares students for entrance exams but adds a trip and a crowded room.

A local teacher can be excellent for board subjects and for young children, and tends to charge least; international syllabuses are where that knowledge runs out. Studying alone with past papers costs nothing and suits the self-driven, but it will not catch a mistake that nobody notices.

A frequent arrangement combines two routes: solo study on most days, and a specialist online hour for the subject that gives the most trouble.

05

How do the rains, Solung and the early dusk shape study in Pasighat?

Few places in the Northeast are as wet as Pasighat. Annual rainfall averages about 4,165 mm, falling mostly between June and September, and the Siang can rise quickly; roads, power and mobile networks may fail for a day or more. An online lesson needs only a working connection, yet we hold spare hours in reserve and ask students to save work as they go.

The local calendar is rich. Solung, the main Adi festival, runs for five days in September; Aran and Etor mark other times of the year. Bihu is also kept by Assamese families, Durga Puja takes several days in autumn, and Christmas and Diwali are observed by their communities. We move lessons around them instead of cancelling.

Daylight ends early this far east, with sunset before five in winter, so late-afternoon slots are the most comfortable and a lesson can finish before dark and the evening chill.

Exam dates set the rhythm. The IB runs chiefly in May; Cambridge holds IGCSE sessions in May-June and October-November; Edexcel adds a January window for certain papers. A sound plan starts revising around four months out, moves on to complete papers for the final six weeks, and leaves the last two for odds and ends.

06

Where can a Pasighat student go after the IB or IGCSE?

  • The nearest institutions are in Pasighat, Dibrugarh and Guwahati
  • AIU equivalence is the basis for admission to Indian universities
  • Entry conditions, including CUET-UG, change from year to year
  • NEET and JEE look for specific subject combinations

Institutions are within reach across the Northeast. Pasighat has Jawaharlal Nehru College, the College of Horticulture and Forestry and a campus of Arunachal Pradesh University; Dibrugarh University and Assam Medical College sit across the river; Guwahati has IIT Guwahati, Cotton University, Gauhati University and AIIMS Guwahati. IB and IGCSE graduates can reach many of them by the appropriate route.

For Indian universities, the Association of Indian Universities rules that the IB Diploma, and IGCSE followed by A Levels, are comparable to Indian school-leaving certificates, and numerous institutions act on it. CUET-UG lets many such graduates sit the papers that match their subjects. State and national processes add their own terms, so consult the latest prospectus well ahead.

Aspiring doctors face NEET-UG, which expects Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English; aspiring engineers face JEE, which expects Physics, Chemistry and Maths. Select those subjects as the Diploma begins, taking them at Higher Level if the school permits.

Overseas, the UK, Canada, Australia, the US and Singapore are named most, with Delhi or Bengaluru as frequent stepping stones for Arunachal families. Admissions teams interpret IB points and IGCSE-then-A Level records without translation. Tutors develop the subjects while the personal statement belongs to the applicant.

07

How should an IB Maths and Science student in Pasighat use tuition?

The opening choice is the Mathematics course. Analysis and Approaches attracts students who like algebra, calculus and proof and who imagine engineering or pure maths ahead; Applications and Interpretation attracts those who favour data, modelling and technology and may be heading to economics, business or social science. Standard and Higher Level exist for both.

Pupils with an NCERT background usually bring firm basics. Missing is the habit of explaining, because IB papers reward every step of reasoning and the reading of a result in context. Early classes drill writing out working in full, so method marks stop slipping away.

All three sciences follow one pattern: a school-marked investigation counting for a fifth of the grade, and Higher Level papers that stretch beyond Class 12. Physics learners stumble in unfamiliar situations, Chemistry learners over quantitative organic questions, and Biology learners under the weight of detail and extended answers.

On the internal assessment our tutors advise and never write. They may help your child settle on a workable question and test the method, whereas the report, the data and the conclusions belong to the student alone. The Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge follow the same principle.

08

Core or Extended: which IGCSE tier should a Pasighat student sit?

In Mathematics, the sciences and a handful of other subjects IGCSE candidates sit either of two levels. Core covers the basics and puts the top grades beyond reach, whereas Extended brings harder topics and the whole grade range, which matters greatly when IB Maths AA or A Level sciences come next.

Students aiming at engineering or medicine ought to enter Extended. Those wanting a dependable pass, or still adjusting to a mid-course move, may be happier with Core. Schools generally decide early in Class 10, and stepping up is easier than stepping down.

Arriving at a Guwahati school halfway through a course typically means several topics are new at once. We begin from recent classwork and one past paper, mark the gaps and count backwards from the exam month.

The boards number syllabuses their own way: Cambridge Mathematics is 0580 while the Edexcel equivalent is 4MA1, and the papers read differently as well. Whichever board your school enters decides which tutor you are matched with.

Where we tutor

Pasighat and surrounding places where families enquire about IB and IGCSE lessons

The classroom is a screen, so your address never narrows the tutor list. We study the map only to plan around daylight, rain and ferry or road delays, and the notes below show how.

Pasighat town centre

The district headquarters and main market, where most enquiries start; late-afternoon lessons suit students home from school.

Siang riverside

Low ground by the river, where monsoon floods and landslide warnings can disrupt roads and power.

Jawaharlal Nehru College area

An educational pocket around the state's first college, home to teachers and students.

Oriah and Mebo side

Settlements along the approaches to town, with families who travel to Pasighat daily for school and work.

Ruksin and Sille-Oyan

Nearby areas of East Siang, linked to Pasighat by road, where mobile data can vary.

Oryamghat

The ferry point about 32 km away, the usual crossing towards Dibrugarh.

Silapathar

The Assam town across the border, a neighbouring commercial hub that some Pasighat families also use.

Dibrugarh

Reached by road and ferry, with a university, a medical college and an airport.

Itanagar and Naharlagun

The state capital region, with the largest set of schools in Arunachal Pradesh.

Guwahati

The main gateway for families who want an international school, a hostel or onward travel.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Pasighat

In Pasighat: limited local choice

The town's schools teach the state's CBSE-linked syllabus or CBSE itself; none could be verified as IB or IGCSE, so anyone wanting an international course must board, relocate or study privately.

    Nearby: Guwahati

The biggest city of the Northeast hosts an international school that Arunachal families tend to look at first.

    • International School Guwahati

    Further afield: Kolkata

Kolkata is home to long-established schools with international programmes, usually reached through boarding or relocation by families in the Northeast.

    • The Heritage School
    • Calcutta International School

    Further afield: Delhi NCR

Delhi NCR has a number of schools running the IB and Cambridge curricula, again reached through boarding or relocation.

    • Pathways World School, Aravali
    • The British School, New Delhi

Pasighat has no school named on this page, since none could be established as an IB school or a Cambridge or Edexcel IGCSE centre. The campuses in Guwahati, Kolkata and Delhi NCR are included merely to outline the choices of a family willing to board or move. IB Gram plays no part in admissions; ask the IB, the boards and the school itself whether authorisation is current and places are open.

    Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Pasighat: your questions answered

Is it possible to get an IB tutor in Pasighat?+

Yes, through live video. We choose someone who has already taught the specific course, for example Diploma Biology HL or MYP Mathematics, and the lesson is private and on Indian time. Nobody calls at the door, as face-to-face teaching is limited to Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR, but a nationwide search finds a better fit than any local one.

Does Pasighat have an IGCSE school?+

Not to our knowledge. The town's schools follow the CBSE-linked state syllabus, and the nearest international campuses we know of are in Guwahati, Kolkata and Delhi NCR. Check any school's current position with that school directly. Tuition can ease a move, support a child enrolled elsewhere, or guide a private candidate to the papers.

Is home tuition in Pasighat for IB or IGCSE a visit to the house?+

Not in Pasighat. What you get is a private lesson that your child takes at home on a laptop, with the teacher on screen and a whiteboard both can write on. House visits exist solely in Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR. Many parents come to favour this, since the specialists available then span the entire country instead of one neighbourhood.

    What do lessons cost?+

The fee follows subject, level, tutor background and lessons per week, so no public price list is kept. Describe what your child needs and a written quote returns before you decide. The first class costs nothing. Higher Level sciences cost more than IGCSE Core, and siblings sharing a class each pay less.

Which boards do Pasighat schools follow?+

Mainly the CBSE-linked syllabus used across the state, with NCERT textbooks. International syllabuses are found in the bigger cities. Pupils crossing to IB or IGCSE seldom lack content; their difficulty is reasoned answers and practical write-ups, so tutors focus on those habits and avoid re-teaching school lessons.

Can my child take IGCSE exams without joining a school?+

In many cases. An approved exam centre may take outside candidates for Cambridge or Pearson Edexcel, with subjects, fees and closing dates fixed by the centre. The IB Diploma normally requires an authorised school. We prepare for the papers; the centre handles entry, so make contact early.

When do the exams take place?+

The IB's main session is May, with November at a few schools. Cambridge IGCSE sits in May-June and October-November, and Edexcel adds January for many subjects. Your school confirms the dates. Pasighat families tend to start serious revision in February and keep slack for the rains.

What if heavy rain cuts the power or network?+

Any lesson lost to a power cut or network fault is rebooked free of charge. Ordinarily tutor and student work over video and a shared board, with handwritten work photographed for comment. If only the picture fails, the tutor continues by phone while pages are photographed. A fallback is agreed during the trial, because Siang valley rain is no surprise.

Would a tutor write the IA or Extended Essay for my child?+

No. Tutors explain the criteria and the method, and may suggest how to find a workable question or where an argument is weak. The words, data and conclusions remain your child's. Drafting an IA, Extended Essay, TOK essay or similar graded work is outside what we do, and a booking that expects it is declined.

Which areas around Pasighat do you teach?+

Anywhere there is a connection: Pasighat, the college area, Oriah, Mebo, Ruksin, Sille-Oyan, Oryamghat, Silapathar, Dibrugarh, Itanagar and Guwahati. Where you live shapes how we schedule around rain and daylight, but never which tutors we can offer.

IB or IGCSE if we hope to study abroad?+

Universities overseas accept both routes, so think about the child and the school within reach, not a ranking. The Diploma means six subjects and a core across two years and rewards breadth. IGCSE is a two-year secondary stage that often leads to A Levels or the Diploma. Put the question to schools and, if you can, to admissions offices abroad.

Can you teach Hindi for the IB or IGCSE?+

Yes, as an IB language course or as an IGCSE first or second language subject, with work on reading, composition, grammar and the oral where there is one. A few language and level pairs have fewer tutors, so name yours in the first message and we will say honestly whether a match exists.

Our child studies in Guwahati or elsewhere. Can lessons carry on at home?+

Yes. Lessons go wherever the student goes, so the same tutor can teach at the hostel in term time and at home in Pasighat during breaks, keeping a single set of notes. Holidays then stop being a gap in the subject.

    How do we get started?+

Write the programme, subject, level and school to +91 7439 368 115 on WhatsApp, or email support@ibgram.com. A few tutors and a trial slot come back. The class is free, nothing is owed afterwards, and any rate is confirmed in writing before you commit.

What if the tutor is not the right match?+

Just say so and we will change it, with no awkwardness. Mismatches usually come from pace or teaching style and rarely from ability, and a quick swap saves weeks. The trial class is designed to bring this out, and the regular review offers another chance.

Does IB Gram have links with any school or exam board?+

No. IB Gram stands apart from the International Baccalaureate, Cambridge, Pearson and every school named on this page, which are mentioned only to show what lies near Pasighat. Grades and admission cannot be promised, as both depend on the student's effort and each school's decisions.
