IB and IGCSE Tutors and Online Private Tuition in Palitana

Private tuition at home for IB and IGCSE students in Palitana, taught one to one over live video: the Shatrunjaya pilgrimage town has no school confirmed to run either curriculum, and the nearest international campuses are in Rajkot, Ahmedabad and Vadodara, hours away. Jain business families with children in Mumbai or Surat schools, boarders and online-school learners are matched to a tutor who has taught the exact course, tier and exam session.

  • Each tutor is chosen against your child's own course, subject code and level, never a loose promise of international experience
  • All teaching is on screen; a tutor knocking at the door is a Gurugram and Delhi NCR arrangement that is not offered in Palitana
  • A full trial class is yours to attend before any payment or agreement
  • Independent of every school named on this page and of the IB, Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel

IB & IGCSE in Palitana

Studying an international curriculum beside the Shatrunjaya hills

Palitana is about fifty kilometres south-west of Bhavnagar, and the whole town organises itself around a hill. Shatrunjaya, reached by roughly 3,800 stone steps and a climb of around an hour and a half, carries more than nine hundred Jain temples built over nine centuries, and is regarded by Jains as the holiest of pilgrimage places. Dharamshalas, pathshalas and sweet shops serve visitors, and in 2014 the municipality became the first in the world to be declared vegetarian. Gujarati is the language of the street, and most local schoolchildren follow the Gujarat board or CBSE.

We could not confirm an IB or Cambridge or Pearson Edexcel school in Palitana, or in Bhavnagar, so the families who contact us tend to share a story. Many belong to business communities with homes in Mumbai, Surat or Ahmedabad and roots in Saurashtra, and their children study an international syllabus in a metro while spending holidays, festivals and pilgrimage seasons here. Others send a child to board in Rajkot, Ahmedabad or Vadodara. A few enrol in an accredited online international school from the family home.

What they need is a teacher who has taught the course, not a generalist. A student puzzled by IB Economics evaluation or IGCSE Physics calculations can be helped well on a screen, and lessons are taught by tutors based in India who work on Indian Standard Time, so a class fits a Gujarati evening without anybody sitting up for a far-off time zone.

To be clear about what we are: IB Gram is independent of every school named here and of the IB, Cambridge and Pearson. Tutors explain, question and mark practice work, and never write a student's Internal Assessment, Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge essay or coursework, which must remain the student's own.

At a glance

  • No IB or Cambridge school confirmed in Palitana or Bhavnagar; Rajkot and Ahmedabad are the nearest options
  • Suits metro-schooled children on holiday at home, boarders and online-school learners
  • IGCSE matched by syllabus code and Core or Extended tier
  • Private live lessons on Indian Standard Time
  • No tutor visits a Palitana house; in-person teaching is for Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR only
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to Palitana school years

There is no authorised IB school in Palitana, so the programmes come into a family's life sideways: through a metro school the child attends while the home stays in Saurashtra, through a boarding seat in another Gujarat city, or through a screen. The paragraphs below say what a tutor typically ends up doing at each age.

PYPClass 1-5, ages 6-12

IB Primary Years Programme

Children explore big themes, such as how the world works or how people share the planet, instead of keeping subjects in boxes, and the final year is crowned by a self-directed Exhibition. No marks are awarded by an outside body, which leaves room for our work to be gentle: reading aloud, number games and learning to frame a question worth chasing.

Most Palitana-linked PYP pupils live in a metro term by term and arrive here for Diwali, summer or a wedding, which is when a short, structured burst of lessons keeps a programme from drifting.

MYPClass 6-10, ages 11-16

IB Middle Years Programme

Teachers score each subject against four published criteria, each split into bands, and the programme closes with a Personal Project. The hard lesson is that a clear description of a method, a sound explanation of it and a fair judgement of it are rewarded separately.

MYP students from Palitana families tend to fall behind in the weeks after a long festival absence from their metro school, and targeted lessons help them rejoin the class at the right point.

DPClass 11-12, ages 16-19

IB Diploma Programme

A student sits six subjects across two years, three of them at Higher Level, and adds Theory of Knowledge, a 4,000-word Extended Essay and CAS. The big written session is in May, results land in July, and the school's internal deadlines arrive long before either.

Because a Diploma student tied to Palitana is nearly always enrolled elsewhere, lesson times follow the school's calendar and lean on weekends, which survive trips to the hometown better than weekday slots do.

CPClass 11-12, ages 16-19

IB Career-related Programme

This route pairs a short list of Diploma subjects with a vocational qualification, a reflective project and skills modules. Only a handful of Indian schools run it, nearly all in big cities.

A Palitana family asking about CP would be unusual; if it happens, we work only on the Diploma subjects the student has actually chosen and leave the vocational strand to the school.

Subject coverage

IB subjects we tutor

Every match begins with a subject, a level and an exam session, and never with the two letters IB alone. The list below shows what Palitana-linked students ask for and what a tutor tends to do first.

IB Maths Analysis & Approaches

HL / SL

Best for students who enjoy proofs and structure. Expect alternating weeks of technique practice and unseen problems, plus an Exploration topic agreed in the first term.

IB Maths Applications & Interpretation

HL / SL

Probability, regression and modelling with a calculator used as a precision tool; we time the key sequences because slow keying drains Paper 2.

IB Physics

HL / SL

Algebra and unit checks lead, since they quietly decide so many marks; fields, waves and thermal topics follow, with the investigation built on data an examiner would trust.

IB Chemistry

HL / SL

Amount-of-substance sums become routine before equilibrium, kinetics and organic routes are attempted, and lab write-ups are checked line by line against the descriptors.

IB Biology

HL / SL

A large share of coaching goes on obeying the verb in a question, whether outline, compare or evaluate, and on reading graphs without hesitation.

IB Economics

HL / SL

Diagrams are made exact before evaluation starts; local material such as groundnut and cotton markets, diamond polishing and Saurashtra's ports can give an argument a concrete anchor.

IB Business Management

HL / SL

A natural subject for students from trading families, with weekly case reading, tool selection and help finding a real firm for the research project.

IB Computer Science

HL / SL

Every session includes code that is written, run and broken on purpose, since understanding follows the debugging.

IB English A Language & Literature

HL / SL

Unseen commentary, the comparative essay and the oral each get a routine of their own, because each is a different craft.

IB English B

HL / SL

Helps students who think first in Gujarati; the work is register, text types and keeping longer pieces accurate.

IB Gujarati A

HL / SL

Close reading and analytical writing in the student's first language, for those who want it recorded on the Diploma.

IB Hindi B

HL / SL

Everyday reading, writing and speaking practice for students who study Hindi as an additional language.

IB Psychology

HL / SL

Learning how to weigh a study in the required shape, and how to design a small experiment that is both workable and ethical.

IB Theory of Knowledge

Core

Talk about how knowledge claims are justified; the written pieces that are assessed stay entirely with the student.

IGCSE coverage

IGCSE subjects we tutor

Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel both set IGCSE papers, but their codes, tiers and marking differ, so the first job is always to learn which board and tier a student has entered. Gujarati or Hindi can run alongside the sciences for families who want the home language kept on the certificate.

IGCSE Mathematics 0580

Core / Extended

Core students firm up number and algebra, Extended students add functions, vectors and trigonometry, and each paper type is practised on its own day.

IGCSE Additional Mathematics 0606

Class 9-10

Calculus, logarithms and coordinate geometry for students aiming at engineering, a useful head start before senior Maths.

IGCSE Physics 0625

Core / Extended

Motion, circuits and waves taught by worked numerical example, with the alternative-to-practical paper given its own drill.

IGCSE Chemistry 0620

Core / Extended

Mole calculations, electrolysis and qualitative tests rehearsed in short, repeated bursts so recall holds under nerves.

IGCSE Biology 0610

Core / Extended

Enzymes, inheritance and ecosystems, plus the longer structured answers where loose wording gives away marks.

IGCSE Accounting 0452

Class 9-10

A sensible choice for students from trading families: ledgers, trial balances and financial statements through regular worked exercises.

IGCSE Economics 0455

Class 9-10

Supply and demand diagrams followed by brief, well-organised evaluation.

IGCSE Business Studies 0450

Class 9-10

Reading a case closely, using simple ratios and naming the business in each answer.

IGCSE English as a Second Language 0510

Class 9-10

Reading, directed writing and listening practice for students whose home language is Gujarati.

IGCSE Hindi as a Second Language 0549

Class 9-10

Steady accuracy in reading and writing plus oral confidence, for families keeping Hindi on the record.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around Palitana school timetables

Nothing below involves a tutor arriving at a Palitana door, because visits at home are a Gurugram and Delhi NCR arrangement only. The decision for a family is about tempo: a steady weekly beat, a holiday burst, or a revision push.

A weekly class

One hour with the same tutor on the same day each week, for a student who wants continuing support next to a metro school or an online programme.

  • Fixed day and hour
  • Homework looked at in the next class
  • A short written note each time
  • Shifts easily around festival weeks

A holiday burst

Packed lessons over Diwali, summer or Uttarayan for students who are home in Palitana and want gaps closed before returning to school.

  • Gaps read from the last school report
  • Daily or alternate-day classes
  • A topic checklist for parents
  • A short review test to finish

A revision push

A run of sessions ahead of the May or November papers, built on timed past papers, mark-scheme reading and a written log of recurring errors.

  • Papers done against the clock
  • Command-word drills
  • Error log retested each week
  • Fits around study leave

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Palitana

01

Who in Palitana asks about IB or IGCSE, and what are they trying to solve?

At the 2011 census Palitana had around 64,000 people and a literacy rate near 74 per cent, and nearly every child goes to a Gujarat board or CBSE school. The families who bring up international syllabuses are few, and knowing who they are explains why our service here looks the way it does.

The biggest group lives two lives. Business is in Mumbai, Surat or Ahmedabad, the ancestral home and often the family's bond with the hill is in Palitana, and the child studies the IB or IGCSE at a metro school. For them Palitana means holidays, weddings and pilgrimage seasons, and the trouble is keeping a course moving while everyone is away from school.

Others send a child to board in Rajkot, Ahmedabad or Vadodara and want help in the long breaks. Some have chosen an online international school. A few are coming back from abroad, where Gujarati communities are large, and want a steady bridge into whichever school comes next.

Local coaching is not built for any of this. Centres in Palitana and Bhavnagar prepare students for the Gujarat board, GUJCET, JEE and NEET, which is valuable work of a different kind. A tutor who has taught IB command terms and IGCSE paper structures closes the gap.

02

How do the Gujarat board, CBSE, IGCSE and the IB compare for a Palitana student?

The Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board runs state-wide papers for Classes 10 and 12 each March, and its science stream leads into GUJCET for state seats. CBSE is national and leans towards application. IGCSE and the IB go further, asking for explanation and judgement, and the IB adds long independent projects on top.

Anyone crossing over from the state board reports the same three surprises. Exam verbs such as justify, evaluate or suggest have exact mark-scheme meanings. Internal assessment stretches across months instead of a single sitting. And everything is in English, so students from Gujarati-medium classrooms must build precise scientific vocabulary.

The table puts each route against a few practical questions. It does not say one is right for everybody: a student aiming at a Gujarat engineering or medical seat may do well to stay on the state or CBSE path, while another planning a degree abroad may want an international record.

Whichever road a family takes, a tutor's job has the same outline: learn what the examiners reward, find where marks are slipping, practise under the clock and keep notes so progress can be seen.

03

What goes into the price of IB or IGCSE lessons for a Palitana family?

Before money, ask four things. Has the tutor taught this exact course and level? May you watch a class first? What does a lesson note contain? How is a change of tutor handled? Those answers protect you better than an hourly headline, because general help that misses the exam is poor value at any rate.

IB Gram prints no rate card. A figure is worked out from the course, the level and the tutor's record with that syllabus, then sent to you in writing before you book. A child in Palitana pays what a child in a metro pays for the same tutor and class, since nothing about the lesson depends on where it is received.

Higher Level sciences, Extended IGCSE Maths and careful marking of past papers raise the number. A short revision block instead of a full term, or one tutor covering two neighbouring subjects, lowers it. Families with two children can ask for back-to-back slots.

The saving Saurashtra households notice first is on the road. A weekly class in Rajkot or Ahmedabad eats hours and fuel or a hostel bill. Online lessons remove that and ask only for a steady connection, a camera and a quiet corner of the house.

04

Does online tuition beat coaching classes or a visiting teacher in Palitana?

Palitana and Bhavnagar have capable coaching centres and private teachers, nearly all aimed at the Gujarat board, GUJCET, JEE and NEET. They know those tests well. They seldom know how IB and IGCSE examiners phrase questions or distribute marks.

A teacher who visits gives valuable attention to the basics, but the international style of questioning still has to come from somebody who has taught it. Self-study with past papers works for a disciplined student and offers no explanation when marks vanish.

A live one-to-one class online puts a specialist opposite a single student and fits the child's own timetable. The price is a dependable connection and a student who can look at a screen for an hour.

Below is a side-by-side view. Plenty of families mix these: coaching for entrance tests, online lessons for the international subjects, and quiet self-study between classes.

05

How do exam series, pilgrim seasons and Gujarati festivals shape the year here?

The IB Diploma sits in May with results in July. Cambridge IGCSE offers February-March, May-June and October-November series, while Pearson Edexcel offers January, May-June and October-November. A school or online provider confirms the session, and mock papers normally arrive a few weeks earlier.

Palitana's own calendar cuts across those dates. Uttarayan in mid-January fills the sky with kites and closes offices for a day or two. Nine evenings of Navratri garba follow in autumn, with Diwali and the Gujarati New Year close behind. Paryushan in late summer is a time of fasting and reflection for Jain families, and Kartik Purnima sends pilgrims up the hill in enormous numbers.

Weather and access count too. Saurashtra summers are hot and dry, which makes afternoon study unpleasant, and the monsoon months from June to September are when the hill is closed to pilgrims. Storms can interrupt power and mobile signal, so a charged second device and a phone hotspot are cheap insurance.

The grid below lays the overlaps out. A sound plan finishes internal assessment drafts before Navratri and puts mock papers in weeks with no festival in them.

06

Where do IB and IGCSE results take a student from Palitana?

Finishing an IB Diploma, or IGCSE followed by A Levels, leaves a Palitana student with roughly three options. One is entry to an Indian university via CUET-UG, where the school-leaving grades are read together with an equivalence certificate from the Association of Indian Universities. Another is a private or deemed university that takes international marks as they stand. The third is a degree overseas, a common ambition in business households that already have cousins in London, Toronto or Dubai.

Gujarat offers plenty of well-known campuses within a day's reach, in Ahmedabad, Vadodara and Bhavnagar among them, and state seats can be sought through GUJCET or NEET. The rules for students from international boards are revised now and then, so read the current notice before settling on subjects.

Foreign universities care about which subjects sit at Higher Level. Engineering applications usually expect Maths and Physics there, medicine expects Chemistry and commonly Biology, and finance or management courses like to see Maths next to Economics. A tutor can say what a particular mix tends to lead to.

Decisions belong to the family, made with school counsellors and with each university's own published requirements. Tutors stop at the marks: they file no applications, draft no personal statements and promise no offers.

07

What separates a good IB Maths or science answer from a lost mark?

  • Match the Maths course to the degree in mind
  • Unit slips and formula choice cost Physics marks
  • Learn calculation families first, organic mechanisms later
  • In Biology, answer the exact verb used

Start with Maths, which splits into two courses. Analysis and Approaches is for students at home with algebra, calculus and logical argument, typically future engineers. Applications and Interpretation is for students who prefer data, graphs and software, often heading for business, psychology or economics. Each can be taken at Standard or Higher Level, and each includes an Exploration that is entirely the student's own.

Three slips account for most lost Maths marks: algebra written too quickly, reasoning steps dropped because the result looked obvious, and context ignored. We set short timed questions, then have the student read their working out loud, which tends to surface these habits within a few weeks.

Science marks go elsewhere. A Physics candidate may confuse units or reach for the wrong equation, a Chemistry candidate may be caught out by a family of calculations before any mechanism appears, and a Biology candidate may write an accurate paragraph in reply to a question nobody asked. The internal investigation in each science is the student's work, although a tutor can advise on whether a research question is practical.

Since Higher Level courses are heavy, a workable year mends foundations in term one, turns to past papers in term two and keeps the last weeks for consolidation, with the error log read every week.

08

Core or Extended: which IGCSE tier fits a Palitana student?

Most IGCSE subjects are sat at one of two tiers. Core restricts the highest grade that can be awarded, while Extended adds content and unlocks the top grades. A student aiming for Diploma Maths, A Level or any science route generally needs Extended in Maths and the sciences, since later courses assume that material is already known.

Evidence should drive the decision. Two or three diagnostic lessons can show whether a student's difficulty is speed, knowledge or nerve, and whether a few months of regular work would bring Extended within reach. In practice the school or online provider decides who enters which tier.

Think about the subject mix too. The three sciences can be taken separately or as a combined award with different paper codes. A child from a trading family who is curious about Accounting, Economics or Business Studies can sample one at IGCSE before selecting Diploma subjects.

Whichever tier is chosen, three routines pay off: reading the command word carefully, showing every step and practising against the clock. A weekly class with a timed paper each fortnight beats a panicked final month.

Where we tutor

Where Palitana students studying IB or IGCSE are based

Every lesson is on video, so these notes are about context and not travel: how each part of the Palitana area is schooled, and how pilgrim seasons and festivals shape a household's week.

Palitana town and main bazaar

The commercial centre, with the widest choice of Gujarati-medium and CBSE schools and the most reliable broadband.

Taleti Road and the Shatrunjaya foothills

The pilgrim belt at the base of the hill, dense with dharamshalas and busy around Kartik Purnima, when traffic and noise disturb evening routines.

Railway station area

A compact locality with rail connections towards Sihor and Bhavnagar, used by families who travel for work or schooling.

Bhavnagar Road corridor

The route north-east to the district headquarters, where families weigh Bhavnagar's colleges and coaching centres.

Mahuva Road side

The approach towards the coast, with farming and trading households and mostly Gujarati-medium schooling.

Shetrunji river belt

Villages along the river and its reservoir, where mobile data is often the route to online classes.

Sihor

A nearby town known as a rail junction, with families who have ties to Bhavnagar and Palitana both.

Talaja

A historic hill town to the south-east, with its own schools and a long tradition of Jain and Hindu pilgrimage visits.

Gariadhar

A town in the wider district with a trading economy, where families look to Bhavnagar and Rajkot for higher studies.

Gohilwad villages

Farming settlements of the wider region whose households follow the sowing and harvest calendar and festival seasons closely.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Palitana

Palitana and Bhavnagar

We could not confirm any school in Palitana, or in Bhavnagar district, that offers the IB or a Cambridge or Edexcel IGCSE. Local schools follow the Gujarat board or CBSE, so international-curriculum questions are settled in larger cities.

    Nearby: Rajkot

The closest city in Saurashtra with a confirmed IB and IGCSE campus, about three hours by road, and the first place many Palitana families consider for boarding.

    • The Galaxy School

    Nearby: Ahmedabad

Gujarat's largest city has the widest choice in the state, and many Palitana families have relatives there.

    • Ahmedabad International School
    • Calorx Olive International School

    Nearby: Vadodara

Another established option for boarders, at a similar travelling distance to Ahmedabad.

    • Navrachana International School

The schools below are named only to show where international curricula are offered within reach of a Palitana family. IB Gram is an independent tutoring service with no link to any of them, to the IB, Cambridge or Pearson Edexcel. Please confirm each school's current programmes and admission rules yourself before shortlisting.

    5. 05

      Check in often

A short note follows each class, progress is reviewed every few weeks, and asking for someone new is an everyday request.

    Why families choose us

What Palitana parents tell us matters most

    Matched to the course

A tutor for IB Economics HL is chosen for that course and not for economics in general.

No road trip to a city

Lessons happen at home, so a weekly journey to Rajkot or Ahmedabad drops out of the week.

    Just your child

Nobody else is in the room, so the pace follows your child's own questions.

    Progress parents can read

Each class ends with a brief record of what was covered and what to practise.

    Swapping is easy

If the fit is wrong, another tutor is found without awkwardness.

    Coaching only

A tutor may help a student think an Extended Essay through but will never write a line of it.

    Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Palitana: your questions answered

Is IB or IGCSE teaching genuinely available to a Palitana student?+

It is, through live video only. Your child meets a teacher who has handled the same syllabus, in a one-to-one class fixed on Indian Standard Time. Nobody journeys to the town. Send the board, the subject and the exam session, and a named tutor with a free opening class will come back to you.

Has Palitana or Bhavnagar got a school that teaches these curricula?+

Not one we could confirm. Palitana's schools run the Gujarat board or CBSE, and Bhavnagar showed no international option either. Proper IB and Cambridge campuses are in Rajkot, Ahmedabad and Vadodara. Since schools add and drop programmes, ring the admissions office before trusting any web listing, this page included.

Does anyone from IB Gram ever visit a Palitana home?+

No. Visits to a student's house are limited to Gurugram and some parts of Delhi NCR. For Palitana, home tuition means a private class taken at home on a laptop or tablet with the teacher on screen. We spell it out so that nobody waits for a knock.

How do you arrive at the fee for a Palitana child?+

There is no price list. The figure comes from the course, the level and how long the tutor has worked on that syllabus, and it reaches you in writing before you book. Living in Palitana changes nothing, and you skip the fare to a bigger city. If you have a limit in mind, tell us.

Which IB subjects can your tutors handle?+

Both Maths courses, all three sciences, Economics, Business Management, Computer Science, English A and B, Gujarati A, Hindi B, Psychology, plus talk-through sessions for Theory of Knowledge, at Higher or Standard Level. Something missing might still be possible, and we will answer honestly if you ask.

Can online classes repair weak IGCSE Physics calculations?+

Generally they can. We work on Cambridge 0625 and the Edexcel papers. The first class pins down whether the weakness is rearranging equations, handling units or reading the question, and the following weeks use timed sums together with a written list of repeated errors that the student rereads between classes.

Will a tutor write any of my Extended Essay or IA?+

No part of it. These pieces are judged as the student's own work, and every tutor is briefed on that. What a tutor can do is explain the criteria, press on a shaky argument, or warn that the data are too thin, after which the writing is yours.

What happens in the free opening class?+

A real lesson rather than a sales pitch. The matched tutor picks one topic your child finds difficult, teaches it live and asks questions along the way, while a parent may watch. You pay nothing and promise nothing, and if the style is wrong we suggest someone else before you decide.

What should we do when the power cuts out mid-class?+

Expect it in Saurashtra's rainy months and prepare. From June to September keep a second charged device and a phone hotspot close, and if the connection drops the tutor simply rejoins when you do. A quiet, bright corner and a camera that can show written working are the remaining basics.

Is moving from a Gujarati-medium school to IGCSE or IB very hard?+

It is manageable, usually done at Class 9 or Class 11 with the new school's agreement. Students mostly describe two surprises: scientific writing in English and exam verbs such as justify or evaluate. Starting a few months before the move, instead of after the first test, lets the change arrive gradually.

Can IB and IGCSE students sit GUJCET, NEET or JEE?+

That turns on the exam and the year's notification, so read it before choosing subjects. Candidates from international boards often meet equivalence conditions. CUET-UG and many private universities accept IB and Cambridge results, normally with an equivalence certificate from the Association of Indian Universities.

Do your tutors know Cambridge as well as Edexcel?+

We pair by board, since codes, tiers and marking differ between the two. Tell us your child's registration and we will propose a tutor who has taught it. Help with AS and A Level is also on offer for students who go on beyond IGCSE.

When is it sensible to start for May papers?+

For the IB Diploma, late summer of the final year leaves room for internal assessments as well as past papers. For IGCSE candidates sitting in May or June, October is a fair start. A weak Maths or Physics base deserves an earlier beginning because those subjects rebuild slowly.

Our family moves between Surat, Mumbai and Palitana. Can classes travel with us?+

Yes, because all a class needs is a device and a connection. Many families keep one weekly slot that continues whether the student sits in a metro flat or at the Palitana house, and we shift or pause lessons for Paryushan, Kartik Purnima or a wedding. Share the travel pattern and we will plan around it.

    How do we get going?+

Write to support@ibgram.com or message +91 7439 368 115 on WhatsApp giving the programme or board, subjects, level, exam series and the topics that cause trouble. A tutor and a trial slot follow, and you pay nothing until you have watched a class and accepted the written rate.
