IB & IGCSE in North Lakhimpur

IB and IGCSE study from the Subansiri plains of upper Assam

North Lakhimpur is the headquarters of Lakhimpur district, about 27 degrees north on the north bank of the Brahmaputra valley, with the Subansiri river historically marking its western side. It should not be mixed up with Lakhimpur Kheri, a district in Uttar Pradesh that has its own page on this site. The town has a medical college, a university, an old degree college and schools such as St. Mary's, and around it lie tea gardens, paddy fields and the foothills of Arunachal Pradesh.

Assamese is the main language at home for roughly two thirds of residents, with large Bengali and Hindi speaking communities. The school boards are SEBA for Class 10 and AHSEC for Class 12, with CBSE in a number of private schools. Coaching here serves those boards and the NEET and JEE routes. There is nothing in town built for the IB Diploma or Cambridge IGCSE, and we could not confirm any school in the district that teaches either.

Even so, questions arrive. A family with a child at a boarding school in Guwahati, Kolkata or Dehradun wants help in the break. A tea-industry or oil-sector household has been transferred from elsewhere, with a child midway through a Cambridge or IB course. A doctor at the medical college has relatives abroad and plans to send a child overseas for university. For each of them, the tutor has to come from outside Assam.

Delivery is by live video, taught in Indian Standard Time, with a tutor who has taught the exact syllabus recently. Tutors do not travel to North Lakhimpur. They coach; Internal Assessments, Extended Essays, TOK essays and coursework stay with the student. IB Gram is independent of the IB, Cambridge, Pearson Edexcel and every school on this page.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to North Lakhimpur school years

No school in North Lakhimpur is confirmed to run any IB programme, so each stage below is described as it reaches a family here, usually through a boarding school in another city, an incoming transfer or a planned move.

PYPAges 3-12

IB Primary Years Programme

Inquiry units replace separate subjects for young learners, and the final year features an Exhibition the child prepares largely alone. Since nothing is externally examined, coaching concentrates on comfortable reading, number fluency and curiosity that can be turned into a research question.

In North Lakhimpur the PYP is met mainly by transferred households whose child started it elsewhere, for whom a familiar routine matters while a new school is chosen.

MYPAges 11-16

IB Middle Years Programme

Learners are graded against four criteria in every subject and complete a Personal Project near the end. Explaining why an answer is right, not just stating it, is the skill most students must build.

A child boarding at an MYP school in Guwahati or beyond returns to North Lakhimpur for the long winter and summer holidays, which suit a criterion-by-criterion review.

DPClass 11-12, ages 16-19

IB Diploma Programme

Six subjects across two years, with three at Higher Level, combined with Theory of Knowledge, an Extended Essay of up to 4,000 words and CAS. Final papers are in May, and results follow in July.

A Diploma student from this region studies in a larger city, so tutoring follows that school's internal deadlines rather than anything in Assam.

CPClass 11-12, ages 16-19

IB Career-related Programme

A small set of Diploma courses is paired with a career-related study and a reflective project. Indian schools rarely offer it, but the Diploma courses within it are taught at full depth.

CP enquiries from North Lakhimpur are uncommon; when they appear, the tutoring focuses on the particular Diploma courses the student has chosen.

Subject coverage

IB subjects we tutor

A student struggling with IB Chemistry calculations has a very different need from one rehearsing for an IB English oral. So the first step is always the precise course and level, and then a tutor is chosen who has taught it.

IB Maths Analysis & Approaches

HL / SL

Functions, calculus and proof-style reasoning dominate, so lessons begin with fluent algebra and progress to the multi-part Paper 2 questions where a small early error travels all the way to the end.

IB Maths Applications & Interpretation

HL / SL

Modelling, statistics and technology take priority, with practice on choosing the right test, reading calculator output and writing a short conclusion.

IB Physics

HL / SL

Mechanics, waves and electricity come first; HL students then meet fields and quantum ideas, with graph practice that makes uncertainty part of the answer.

IB Chemistry

HL / SL

Quantitative chemistry and equilibrium are made automatic, since organic pathways and energetics rest on them, and practical reports are checked for clear method.

IB Biology

HL / SL

Breadth is the challenge, so spaced retrieval beats rereading, and students learn to match answer length to the command term.

IB Economics

HL / SL

Labelled diagrams and precise definitions come first; HL students then practise evaluating policy with figures, which is the core of Paper 3.

IB Business Management

HL / SL

Case papers reward applying a concept to the named company, and the tutor drills that habit using unseen stimulus material.

IB English A Language & Literature

HL / SL

Paper 1 is a method, and the Individual Oral is rehearsed aloud, with feedback, until the structure is steady.

IB Computer Science

HL / SL

Algorithms and data structures are built in real code, since the internal assessment is a working product with matching documentation.

IB Psychology

HL / SL

Studies are learned with their aims, methods and evaluation, and then used to argue a precise answer to the exact question.

IB Environmental Systems & Societies

SL / HL

Systems thinking and real-world examples, including river and flood management, give answers that show cause and effect.

IB Geography

HL / SL

Case studies with real numbers are rehearsed, and fieldwork reports are checked for methods that could be repeated.

IB History

HL / SL

Source evaluation and the long argument are practised separately, with short timed plans before a full essay.

IB Assamese A / B

HL / SL

For families who wish to keep Assamese as a school language, sessions cover register, text types and oral fluency.

IB Hindi B

SL / HL

Hindi as a second language, with attention to grammar, writing tasks and confident speaking.

IGCSE coverage

IGCSE subjects we tutor

Board comes first, because a Cambridge paper and an Edexcel paper reward different habits even on the same topic. After that we pin the syllabus code and the tier, and work back from the session your child is entered for, May-June or October-November. Hindi can sit beside the English-medium subjects.

IGCSE Mathematics 0580

Core / Extended

Extended students rebuild arithmetic and algebra speed first, then practise multi-step geometry and statistics under time.

IGCSE Additional Mathematics 0606

Grade 10

A short course in calculus, functions and trigonometry that gives a good head start for IB Maths AA or A Level.

IGCSE Physics 0625

Core / Extended

Formula recall, unit conversion and the paper on planning experiments are handled in one sequence, as the practical skills paper quietly takes marks from students who revise only theory.

IGCSE Chemistry 0620

Core / Extended

Moles, gas volumes and electrolysis are worked through with graded questions, and the salt and ion tests are rehearsed as a flowchart the student can reproduce from memory.

IGCSE Biology 0610

Core / Extended

Genetics, enzymes and transport are explained with diagrams the student redraws without help, revealing what has not stuck.

IGCSE Economics 0455

Grade 9-10

Diagrams and definitions are followed by data-response practice, with short structured written explanations.

IGCSE Computer Science 0478

Grade 9-10

Algorithms, binary and logic are taught together with programming, since Paper 2 tests problem-solving.

IGCSE English First Language 0500

Grade 9-10

Directed writing and narrative are written under time and marked for structure, tone and accuracy.

IGCSE Geography 0460

Grade 9-10

Case studies and skills questions are practised with real examples, including river and monsoon topics relevant to Assam.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around North Lakhimpur school timetables

Tutors do not come to houses in North Lakhimpur; in-person lessons exist only in Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR. All three formats below are online, and they differ in how often you meet and for how long.

A standing weekly lesson

One recurring evening or weekend slot, the same tutor and a shared whiteboard. It suits a student in an existing IB or IGCSE course who wants steady, expert support.

  • A fixed slot that does not clash with school
  • Marked past papers returned with written comments
  • Slots set before the early winter dark
  • A brief note to parents after each lesson

A plan for a term or an assessment cycle

A sequenced set of lessons that follows the student's syllabus order or an internal assessment timeline, with a monthly review of progress.

  • Topics scheduled against the real course
  • A written review each month
  • Planned pauses for Bihu and flood weeks
  • Tutor change offered if the style does not fit

An intensive at home in the break

A dense block of lessons while a boarding student is at home, or just before a May or November exam series, with quick marking so the feedback can be used.

  • Sessions daily or every other day
  • Timed papers marked to current criteria
  • Weak topics revisited in the same week
  • Book two weeks before the school breaks up

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in North Lakhimpur

01

Schools, boards and families in and around North Lakhimpur

  • No IB or IGCSE school in the district could be confirmed
  • Typical families are professionals, transferred staff and returnees
  • Lessons are online; no tutor visits homes in North Lakhimpur
  • Exam standards are identical everywhere

School life in North Lakhimpur is organised around SEBA for Class 10 and AHSEC for Class 12, with a number of CBSE private schools alongside Assamese-medium and English-medium government and provincialised institutions. The town also has a medical college, a university and North Lakhimpur College, which give it more academic weight than its size suggests.

We searched for schools teaching the IB or Cambridge or Edexcel IGCSE in the town and across the district and found none we could confirm. We would rather leave the local school strip empty than print an unverified name, and our neighbouring-city clusters are labelled as such so that a family knows what is near and what is far.

Demand is real but thinly spread. Doctors and lecturers with overseas relatives; managers of tea estates and oil-sector staff transferred from Delhi or Kolkata; families who started an international course abroad; and parents who want their child ready for an international school at Class 11. Their shared problem is that no local tutor has worked with these syllabi.

That is why we match by syllabus and not by postcode. Examiners mark a Cambridge script the same way whether it comes from Lakhimpur or London, so what a student needs is someone who can teach to that standard, live, on a screen, at an hour that suits the household.

How do IB and IGCSE compare with SEBA, AHSEC, CBSE and ICSE?

  • IB and IGCSE are examined in English
  • Coursework counts toward IB subject grades
  • IGCSE Extended tiers open the top grades
  • A few months of bridging helps before a switch

SEBA and AHSEC examinations lean heavily on the state textbook, and the marks go to accurate recall of it. CBSE and ICSE add application questions. The IB and IGCSE assume a student can handle an unfamiliar situation and write a reasoned answer in English, which is why many students who do well in Assam's boards need practice with the new style.

Language matters more in Assam than in many states. Students may use Assamese or Bengali at home and in school, and then have to write extended scientific answers in English. Vocabulary and phrasing are a large part of the gap, and gentle, frequent correction in one-to-one sessions closes it faster than reading alone.

Mathematics and science differ in content order, too. A SEBA student may meet some topics later than IGCSE expects and others earlier. A tutor who has read both syllabi can map the differences, so that time is spent where it is needed instead of on revision of things already known.

Finally, coursework. The IB asks for long internal assessments and an Extended Essay across months, and IGCSE sciences include practical skills papers. Students from boards that test only in a final exam should expect a steadier pace and should plan accordingly.

What affects the cost of IB or IGCSE tuition for a North Lakhimpur family?

  • Subject scarcity and level set the rate
  • No travel cost for online lessons
  • Rate agreed in writing before payment
  • Trial and lesson notes are included

Three things set the rate: the subject, the level and the number of lessons per week. A Core IGCSE Maths tutor is easy to find; one for IB Physics HL or IB Computer Science HL is not. We do not print a price list, since numbers without context mislead, and the figure for your child is shared in writing before any paid lesson.

Frequency matters too. One lesson a week costs less per month than three, but a student three weeks from an exam often gains more from a dense block. We explain our suggestion, and you can change it at any stage.

There is no surcharge for being in Assam. Because lessons happen on screen, the tutor's city has no effect on price, and there is no travel cost. What you are really paying for is recent experience with your syllabus, and that is worth checking before you agree to anything.

Look at what is bundled, too. Ours comes with a free trial, a written note after each lesson, marked papers and a tutor change if the fit is wrong. Ask every provider for the same list, and what happens if your child decides to stop.

04

Online tutor, coaching centre, local teacher or self-study: what works in North Lakhimpur?

  • Coaching batches target Assam's boards and entrance tests
  • Self-study needs a knowledgeable marker
  • Online lessons avoid long journeys
  • Plan a backup connection for flood weeks

Coaching centres in town prepare students for SEBA and AHSEC examinations, NEET and JEE. Their batches offer competition and routine, but they do not teach IB Economics or IGCSE Chemistry, and the pace is set by the average student.

Local teachers are a real strength in Lakhimpur, and families often have a long relationship with one. They can be excellent for school-board subjects. What is rare is a teacher who has handled a Cambridge mark scheme or an IB criterion, so the emphasis may not match the exam your child will sit.

Self-study can work for IGCSE because past papers are free and the mark schemes are public. It is weaker for IB, where criteria and coursework demand an experienced reader, and for any student who lacks a person to say why a mark was lost.

An online one-to-one tutor matched by syllabus gives personal attention, exam-specific marking and flexible timings. It needs a stable connection, which can be a concern in flood weeks or on the foothill roads, so we recommend a backup data plan and will move a lesson if the signal fails.

How do Bihu, floods and the short winter days shape the year in North Lakhimpur?

  • Bihu weeks are planned as breaks
  • Flood weeks need slack in the plan
  • Short winter days suit evening lessons
  • Finish mocks before the April holidays

Assam's calendar has its own rhythm. Bogali Bihu in mid-January coincides with mock exams and exam-year anxiety in many homes, and it is a real celebration with feasts, visiting and a short holiday. Rongali Bihu in mid-April lands just before the IB May session, and students should finish mocks before it.

The Subansiri and Brahmaputra floods in July and August can cut roads and power for days. A student who falls behind during a flood week needs a way to catch up, so our plans leave a little slack, and lessons lost to an outage are rescheduled at no charge.

Winter days are short in upper Assam, with sunset before five in December and dawn near five in the morning, so the school day ends early and evenings are long. That suits evening lessons, but power cuts in winter storms are still possible.

Kongali Bihu in October, Durga Puja, Diwali and the tea-garden festival season arrive around the Cambridge October-November series. Students sitting that series should plan revision blocks in August and September, and keep the festival weeks lighter.

Where do North Lakhimpur students go after IB or IGCSE?

  • Request AIU equivalence early
  • Check CUET-UG, JEE and NEET rules for international boards
  • Regional universities set their own criteria
  • Choose HL subjects to match degree prerequisites

A Diploma graduate from upper Assam can apply to Indian universities, with the Association of Indian Universities equivalence certificate usually needed, or to universities abroad. The certificate takes time, so requesting it early is sensible.

In the region, Dibrugarh University, Gauhati University, Cotton University, Tezpur University and IIT Guwahati are well known, and each sets its own rules for international board students. The national exams, CUET-UG, JEE Main and NEET, have their own eligibility pages. These change regularly, so always check the current bulletin.

North Lakhimpur's own medical college has made medicine a visible aspiration in town, but NEET has its own rules about subjects and qualifications, and students from IB or IGCSE must check that their combination qualifies before choosing subjects. We cannot guarantee seats; we can help a student learn the content well.

Overseas study is on many minds here, with the UK, Canada, Australia, Singapore and the US the usual shortlist. Universities there publish their own subject requirements and read predicted grades closely. Help from a tutor goes to understanding and technique; statements, essays and applications are written by the student alone.

07

IB Maths AA and AI, and the sciences, for a North Lakhimpur student

  • AA for engineering and mathematics routes
  • AI for data and social science routes
  • Practise unseen data questions each week
  • The internal investigation is the student's own work

Analysis and Approaches suits students who like algebra and calculus, and may head for engineering or pure science. Applications and Interpretation suits those interested in data and modelling, for economics, geography or medicine. Choosing the wrong one is common, and it is easier to correct in the first term.

The Maths exploration is a piece of writing the student carries for weeks. Our role is to help narrow a topic to something finishable, break the work into stages and read the criteria aloud together. Choosing the idea, doing the mathematics and writing it up remain entirely with the student.

In the sciences, the big change for students from Indian boards is the amount of data interpretation. A student used to formula recall has to learn to explain in words what a graph shows, and to give a limitation of a method. Weekly practice on unseen data is the quickest remedy.

The internal investigation needs an original question and a repeatable method. The tutor asks questions that help the student refine the plan; the data, analysis and write-up are the student's alone.

08

IGCSE Core or Extended, and which subjects to choose

  • Extended suits future Maths AA and A Level students
  • Match the school's board and code exactly
  • Additional Mathematics helps with calculus
  • A diagnostic lesson settles the tier question

In Mathematics and the sciences, the Core tier tops out at grade C, whereas Extended runs from A* down to E. A student eyeing IB Maths AA, A Level or an engineering degree is normally better placed in Extended, where later content will not feel like a cliff.

What you choose now narrows or widens later doors. Mathematics with Physics and Chemistry keeps engineering in view, Biology points at medicine, and Economics with Business Studies leads to commerce. English is nearly universal; adding Hindi or Assamese helps if the student may return to an Indian university.

A tutor working from the wrong board wastes hours, since question wording and practical assessment differ. We therefore match on exact syllabus code, add Additional Mathematics if the school offers it, and plan around the exam series your child will really sit.

Where the school has not settled the tier, one diagnostic lesson gives evidence: a few Extended-style questions, marked live, show whether that level is within reach. This forms part of the free trial and avoids deciding by hunch.

09

How does a North Lakhimpur family get matched with a tutor?

  • Share board, subject, level and timings
  • Receive a short, reasoned shortlist
  • Attend a free trial on a live topic
  • Get notes after every lesson

The first step is a message. Tell us the board, the subject, the level, when the exam falls and which evenings work at home. A reply comes with two or three tutors, each picked because they taught that very course recently, so nobody has to wade through dozens of profiles.

With nobody in town who teaches these syllabi, the search covers the whole country from day one. Every tutor is in India and teaches in IST, so a lesson never runs into the small hours.

Your child then sits a real lesson, unpaid, on something from the current syllabus. A short written summary follows, covering what was taught and the next step. Whether to continue is your decision alone.

A mismatch leads to a new tutor, not an awkward conversation. A good match turns into a weekly slot with a review every month, and the rate is confirmed in writing before any paid class.

Tea garden areas

Estates around the district, with managers and staff households who have often been transferred from other states.

Border road toward Arunachal

The foothill approach toward Arunachal Pradesh, where signal can be weaker and a backup connection is worth having.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in North Lakhimpur

North Lakhimpur

Schools in town run SEBA, AHSEC or CBSE. Across the district we found no school we could verify for the IB or for Cambridge and Edexcel IGCSE, so this cluster stays empty on purpose.

    Nearby: Dibrugarh and Jorhat

These are the two larger upper Assam towns families most often visit; our own pages for them also found no confirmed IB or IGCSE school, so they are listed only as places, not as options.

      Nearby: Guwahati

Assam's capital, a long day's journey away, is where the nearest confirmed international school sits, for families considering boarding or relocation.

      • International School Guwahati

      Nearby: Kolkata

Many families in upper Assam look to Kolkata for boarding and for a wider choice of Cambridge and IB schools.

      • The Heritage School
      • Calcutta International School

We list schools for orientation only, using public pages we read ourselves. Nothing here implies a tie between IB Gram and any school, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson Edexcel, and programmes change, so ring the school before making plans around what we have written.

“Physics HL felt scary before mocks. The tutor mapped my weak topics and gave a realistic command-term plan. Mocks went up by two grade boundaries.”

      Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in North Lakhimpur: your questions answered

How do I find an IB tutor in North Lakhimpur?+

Tell us the programme, subject and level. We then propose tutors who have recently taught that exact syllabus, and because lessons are live over video nobody needs to be in Assam. A shortlist, a free trial and a written quote come before any payment. Message support@ibgram.com or WhatsApp +91 7439 368 115 with the exam session and the evenings that suit.

Is this page about North Lakhimpur in Assam or Lakhimpur Kheri?+

It is about North Lakhimpur, the headquarters of Lakhimpur district in Assam. Lakhimpur Kheri is a different place in Uttar Pradesh, and it has its own page on this site. If you are in Uttar Pradesh, please use that page. The service is the same online, but the local context, boards and calendar are entirely different.

Are IGCSE tutors available in North Lakhimpur?+

Yes, for Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE, delivered on video. A tutor is chosen by syllabus code and tier, say 0625 Physics or 0610 Biology. Entry for May-June or October-November is supported, and if your school has not fixed Core or Extended, a tutor can help you weigh the two.

Do tutors visit homes in North Lakhimpur?+

No. Nobody travels to North Lakhimpur, because in-person tuition exists only in Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR. The alternative is online home tuition: your child sits at home with a laptop and a tutor teaches live, sharing papers and a whiteboard. That spares families the long road to Dibrugarh or Guwahati for a class.

What does IB or IGCSE tuition cost in North Lakhimpur?+

Rates turn on subject, level and weekly hours, and you receive the number in writing before paying. Higher Level IB and unusual IGCSE papers sit higher than Core work since fewer tutors teach them. Living in Assam adds nothing, and a pause or stop carries no fee. The trial lesson is free.

Which schools in North Lakhimpur offer IB or IGCSE?+

None that we could verify, in town or across Lakhimpur district, so we name none. The closest confirmed international school on our pages is in Guwahati, and Kolkata offers a wider choice. A phone call to any school will confirm whether its programmes have changed since we looked.

My child boards in another city. Can a tutor help in the holidays?+

Yes, this is among the most frequent requests. During winter or summer leave at home, a tutor can revisit term topics and mark timed papers in a compact block. Send the boarding school's board, syllabus and exam dates, and we will schedule so that feedback lands while there is still time to use it.

Is there a free trial class?+

There is. The first lesson, on a topic your child is currently studying, costs nothing and commits you to nothing. It shows how the tutor explains, what they ask back and how your child reacts. A poor fit leads to a different tutor, and declining afterwards is perfectly fine.

Will a tutor help with the IB Internal Assessment or Extended Essay?+

Only as a coach. A tutor can unpack the criteria, talk through whether a topic is workable and react to a draft your child wrote, but does not write, rewrite or finish assessed work. IAs, Extended Essays and TOK essays have to be the student's own, which also protects the grade.

Which IB Diploma subjects can tutors teach for North Lakhimpur students?+

The list runs from Maths AA and AI through the three sciences, Economics, Business Management, Computer Science, English A, Psychology, ESS, Geography and History to Assamese and Hindi, at HL and SL. Something missing? Ask, and we will check whether a suitable tutor is available.

Do you teach IB MYP and PYP students from North Lakhimpur?+

We do. In MYP the work centres on criteria, command terms and the Personal Project, while PYP help covers reading, number sense and unit tasks. Enquiries at these ages mostly come from transferred households whose child began the programme elsewhere and needs a steady thread during the move.

Do floods or poor internet make online lessons unreliable?+

In a bad week they can. Keep a mobile data backup, tell us if the signal drops and we will shift the lesson; any class lost to an outage is rescheduled free. Tutors also send notes and papers ahead, so a student can keep working offline until power and network come back.

      How are tutors chosen?+

We look at subject command, recent teaching of the specific IB or IGCSE course and how clearly someone explains, including which syllabi they have handled and how they mark. Qualifications alone do not decide it. You then test the fit in the free trial and can ask for a different tutor.

      When should tutoring begin?+

Earlier is easier: a few months ahead of a school move, the start of Class 11 or an exam series gives room to close gaps without panic. Close to an exam, a focused block on the highest-scoring topics still helps, but it cannot replace a longer runway.

My child is moving from SEBA or AHSEC to IGCSE. Is help available?+

Yes. A tutor sets the current syllabus beside the IGCSE one, lists the gaps and builds scientific English along the way. Exam style, tier choice and the practical skills paper usually cause the most trouble. Beginning two or three months before the switch takes the sting out of the first term.

Can lessons be held at weekends or late evening?+

Most North Lakhimpur families pick weekday evenings or weekend mornings. School hours are left alone, and we plan around Bihu, flood weeks and power cuts where we can. A class ruined by an outage is simply rebooked, at no cost.

What if we are unhappy with the tutor?+

Say so, and another tutor follows, normally within a few days and free of charge. The mismatch is nobody's fault. No long contract binds you, and earlier lesson notes pass to the new tutor so work resumes where it stopped.

Is IB Gram affiliated with any school or board?+

No, IB Gram is independent of the IB, Cambridge, Pearson Edexcel and every school named here. Names appear for context and can change. We do not handle admissions, and we never promise that tutoring will deliver a given grade or a university offer.
