IB and IGCSE Tutors and Online Private Tuition in Nalbari

Nalbari is the headquarters of its district in lower Assam, an hour or two from Guwahati by road, and still without a school of its own that teaches the IB or Cambridge IGCSE. Private home tuition for those courses comes to a Nalbari child as a live online one-to-one lesson with a tutor who has taught the exact syllabus. Nobody visits a Nalbari house; in-person tuition runs only in Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR.

  • A tutor who has taught the IB subject and level, or the IGCSE board, code and tier, that your Nalbari child faces
  • Every Nalbari lesson happens online, because in-person tuition is offered only in Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR
  • A free first lesson, then a quote in writing
  • Unconnected with the IB, Cambridge, Pearson or any school named on this page

IB & IGCSE in Nalbari

An international syllabus for Nalbari students, an hour from Guwahati but without a local school

Nalbari sits on the plains north of the Brahmaputra's southern bank, a district town of paddy fields, areca groves, small trade and old educational institutions, with Nalbari College among the better-known. It is roughly an hour or two by road from Guwahati. Its schools follow the Assam boards and CBSE, and we found no Nalbari school teaching the IB or a Cambridge or Edexcel IGCSE course.

The proximity to Guwahati shapes the questions we hear. A family may have a child at a Guwahati school offering a Cambridge programme, commuting or boarding, and want help at home. Another may have relatives in Delhi, Bengaluru or abroad and see an international qualification as the way to follow them. Another may simply want an English-medium route beyond the state board for a promising student.

Whichever applies, the practical problem is the same: no teacher in Nalbari has taught IB Chemistry HL or IGCSE Extended Mathematics. A live online lesson fixes that. A tutor from elsewhere in India teaches your child one to one over video, works through the board's past papers on a shared screen and leaves a short written note at the end of each class.

Our tutors teach, mark and advise. Writing or reworking any Internal Assessment, Extended Essay or coursework for a Nalbari student is something they never do.

At a glance

  • Support across IB PYP, MYP, DP and CP
  • Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel IGCSE, every tier
  • Private video lessons in Indian Standard Time

  • Nobody visits Nalbari homes: in-person tuition is limited to Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to Nalbari school years

No Nalbari school delivers an IB stage, so a child's programme normally belongs to a school in Guwahati or farther away, or to a move being planned. The notes below describe those starting points, so lessons begin from the real position.

PYPGrades 1-5, ages 6-12

IB Primary Years Programme

Learning is gathered into units of inquiry rather than separate textbooks, and the final year ends with a collaborative Exhibition. Nothing is externally examined, so tutoring builds English reading, number sense and the habit of researching a question.

On the PYP, a Nalbari child is typically one who began elsewhere, or a young sibling being readied for a place in Guwahati or Kolkata.

MYPClass 6-10, ages 11-16

IB Middle Years Programme

Four criteria grade each subject and a Personal Project closes the programme. Students from Assamese-medium schools often first need to see what an analytical English paragraph actually looks like.

Requests here tend to follow a recent move to an MYP school, when criteria-based marking in English is still unfamiliar.

DPGrades 11-12, ages 16-19

IB Diploma Programme

Students choose six courses, three at Higher Level and three at Standard, then add Theory of Knowledge, an Extended Essay and CAS. Most papers fall in May; some schools use November.

Nalbari Diploma students most often need Mathematics, Chemistry or Biology at Higher Level, frequently after an Assam SEBA Class 10.

CPClass 11-12, ages 16-19

IB Career-related Programme

Diploma courses are combined with a career-related study and a short core of personal and professional skills. Few schools anywhere in India run it.

CP enquiries from Nalbari are almost unknown; when one arrives, the work is on the Diploma courses within it.

Subject coverage

IB subjects we tutor

A Higher Level Chemistry candidate and a Standard Level Business candidate are served best by different people, so Nalbari matches begin with subject and level, move to the sitting and predicted grade, and end with evening availability.

IB Maths Analysis & Approaches

HL / SL

Pure mathematics for future engineers and physicists: calculus, algebra and proof, with an HL Paper 3 designed to reward patient work on problems the student has not met.

IB Maths Applications & Interpretation

HL / SL

Statistics and modelling with calculator skill; the Exploration should be settled early in the Nalbari school year.

IB Physics

HL / SL

A sweep from mechanics through waves and fields to atomic physics, with an investigation graded on how well the method is justified and the results are evaluated.

IB Chemistry

HL / SL

Atomic structure through to organic synthesis, with the data booklet used fast from the first week.

IB Biology

HL / SL

Command terms decide marks, so describe, explain and evaluate are practised as separate skills.

IB Economics

HL / SL

Diagrams tied to real examples, such as tea, areca nut and rice markets in the Assam economy.

IB Business Management

HL / SL

Business theory tested on the supplied case, plus a research project that needs one real organisation.

IB English A Language & Literature

HL / SL

Unseen analysis, comparative writing and the Individual Oral, central for Assamese-medium entrants.

IB Computer Science

HL / SL

Reading and writing pseudocode, thinking in objects, and building an internal solution whose documentation tells the same story as its code.

IB Psychology

HL / SL

Named studies recalled accurately and then built into well-organised extended responses.

IB Environmental Systems & Societies

SL / HL

Systems reasoning, with Brahmaputra floods, wetlands and paddy farming as ready local cases.

IB Geography

HL / SL

Case study depth, fieldwork design and evaluation, with river processes close at hand.

IB Assamese B

HL / SL

A natural scoring subject for Nalbari students, built on formal register, text types and a confident spoken exam.

Theory of Knowledge (TOK)

DP Core

Nothing to memorise; sessions practise arguing a knowledge question from both sides.

IGCSE coverage

IGCSE subjects we tutor

Two boards share the IGCSE name, and a Nalbari student prepares for one of them, never both. Board, code and tier are settled first, for example Cambridge 0580 Extended or Edexcel 4MA1 Higher, and the exam series is chosen after.

IGCSE Mathematics 0580

Core / Extended

Practice centres on speed with algebra and on writing out each step, the habit that separates grades on Extended papers.

IGCSE Additional Mathematics 0606

Grade 9-10

Content that sits above the core syllabus, ideal preparation if the Diploma is the next step.

Edexcel IGCSE Mathematics A 4MA1

Foundation / Higher

Pearson sets and words questions differently from Cambridge, so practice must come from Pearson papers.

IGCSE Physics 0625

Core / Extended

Formula work, graph skills and the written paper that stands in for practical exams.

IGCSE Chemistry 0620

Core / Extended

Quantitative chemistry, electrolysis and organic pathways, plus planning and evaluating experiments.

IGCSE Biology 0610

Core / Extended

Cells to ecosystems, with careful attention to mark-scheme wording in longer answers.

IGCSE Economics 0455

Grade 9-10

Definitions and diagrams first, then the evaluation questions that lift a grade.

IGCSE Computer Science 0478

Grade 9-10

Tracing algorithms on paper, writing pseudocode and practising real programming alongside.

IGCSE English First Language 0500

Grade 9-10

Three skills, directed writing, summary and composition, each trained separately under time limits.

IGCSE Hindi as a Second Language 0549

Grade 9-10

Comprehension and composition in Hindi, trained against the specimen papers.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around Nalbari school timetables

In Nalbari each lesson is a single tutor with a single student, live over video. The plans below differ only in tempo, and no tutor ever comes to the house.

A fixed weekly evening

One tutor, one weekday evening and a shared whiteboard, arranged around school hours and any Guwahati coaching class. It suits a student whose own school already covers the course.

  • Specialists from across India
  • Covers MYP, DP and IGCSE courses
  • Papers shown live
  • One tutor all year

A term plan with reviews

A run of lessons over a term, a short note after every class and a fuller review every few weeks. This helps a boarder who is home for the holidays or a family heading towards a move.

  • A written summary per class
  • Marks compared with schemes
  • Good for new IB arrivals
  • Extra sessions before mocks

A short exam sprint

Two or three lessons a week for a few weeks, mostly timed papers with quick correction, scheduled away from flood weeks and festival breaks.

  • Real time limits
  • Prompt feedback
  • Avoids the wettest weeks
  • Book three weeks ahead

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Nalbari

01

Why do some Nalbari families look beyond the Assam board?

Nalbari has a long reputation for education, and its colleges and Assamese literary traditions give the town a studious character. Most families trust the state boards, CBSE and Guwahati coaching. A minority look further, and their reasons are rarely the same.

Some have a child at a Guwahati school with a Cambridge link and want a subject specialist for the evenings. Some have relatives in a metro or abroad and see the IB Diploma or IGCSE as a bridge. Some have a promising student who wants an English-medium qualification that overseas universities read without translation. A few have a child in a boarding school in Kolkata or the hills.

Private candidates form a further group. Cambridge allows entry for IGCSE papers at approved exam centres, so a student can take Mathematics or Biology while still enrolled in a local school.

None of these households finds a Nalbari tutor who has taught the courses, and the choice is online or nothing.

02

How do the Assam boards and CBSE differ from the IB and IGCSE?

The Assam boards, SEBA at Class 10 and AHSEC at Class 12, mark accuracy against a set syllabus, usually in Assamese or English medium. CBSE follows a national pattern. IB and IGCSE give more marks for applying ideas to unseen material and for explaining a method in clear English.

Marks are distributed differently. IB subjects hold an internal component worth roughly a fifth to a third of the grade, and IGCSE has coursework or a practical-skills paper, so a student used to one annual exam must learn to plan, draft and revise across months.

The hardest adjustment is language. Specialist vocabulary, command words and full structured sentences feel unnatural at first and take about a term of deliberate practice to settle. Talking an idea through in Assamese before writing it in English often shortens that term.

Mark schemes are published, so once a student learns to read them the system stops being mysterious.

03

What does IB or IGCSE tuition cost for a Nalbari student?

There is no price list for Nalbari, and that is deliberate. The rate that suits one Nalbari student, with a veteran HL Physics tutor twice a week, differs from the rate that suits another needing one IGCSE English hour. Quotes follow the trial, in writing.

The rarer the skill, the higher the rate: HL sciences and Mathematics need specialists, humanities and languages draw on a wider pool. Experience as an examiner or long-serving teacher also raises it, and so does a second weekly lesson.

Teaching online takes travel out of the bill. For a Nalbari family the alternative to a home lesson would be a journey to Guwahati, which costs hours on the road as well as fares, and that time is never recovered.

Budget is a legitimate part of the conversation. A Nalbari family can ask for a short plan on a single topic, a fortnightly rhythm, or a pre-exam block only, and we build around that.

04

Online tuition, Guwahati coaching, a local tutor or self-study: what works for Nalbari?

A Nalbari family comparing options will find that online one-to-one lessons are the only route guaranteed to supply a tutor who has taught the course. Classes in Guwahati serve board and entrance exams well but seldom touch IB or Cambridge material.

Neighbourhood tutors in Nalbari often do well with Assamese and standard Mathematics, though IB and Cambridge papers are a specialism of their own. Self-study works for the organised, if someone marks the answers.

Distance matters in this part of Assam. A trip to Guwahati can take hours, and a lesson at the home desk does not depend on the road.

Most Nalbari families end up combining approaches, with school covering the core, an online tutor on the hardest subject and revision done alone.

How do floods, fog and the Bihu calendar shape study in Nalbari?

Exam windows are fixed: IB in May and November, Cambridge IGCSE February-March, May-June and October-November, Edexcel January and May-June. Mocks usually fall in December and January, so Nalbari students should treat the early months as teaching time.

Few parts of India are wetter than lower Assam. Between June and September the Brahmaputra and its tributaries swell, low ground floods and the road, rail and electricity supply all suffer. A study plan for those months needs spare slots, a charged laptop and a phone hotspot. Winter is cool, dry and foggy at dawn, and is the best season for steady work.

Festivals add breaks. Bohag Bihu in mid-April is the biggest celebration, Magh Bihu follows in January, Durga Puja takes over in October and Kati Bihu quietly marks the lean month. Plan mocks and Internal Assessment drafts around these dates. The sun also sets early in Assam, so winter evenings feel late by five.

Whoever sits the November IB session should make the monsoon months the intensive window; whoever sits in May should work hardest from October to February.

06

Where can a Nalbari student study after IB or IGCSE?

Most Diploma graduates in India apply with the equivalence certificate issued by the Association of Indian Universities, and central universities add CUET-UG scores. Assam's engineering and medical seats run through JEE Main and NEET, whose handling of IB and IGCSE candidates needs checking every year.

Within reach of Nalbari are Gauhati University, Cotton University and IIT Guwahati, along with the district's own colleges and medical college. Delhi University, Jadavpur, Presidency, Ashoka and Shiv Nadar lie farther out. Engineering via JEE Main needs Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry; NEET needs Biology, Chemistry, Physics and English.

For study abroad, admissions teams in the UK, US, Canada, Australia and Europe read IB points and IGCSE grades routinely. A Nalbari family can plan subject choices now to keep both routes available.

Planning in Class 8 or 9 avoids a rushed choice after the Class 10 results.

07

How are IB Maths and science lessons taught online to a Nalbari student?

A Nalbari student chooses between Analysis and Approaches, which favours algebra, calculus and proof, and Applications and Interpretation, which favours statistics and modelling, at Higher or Standard Level. The intended degree settles the choice, so we ask about it first.

Science lessons for Nalbari students run paper by paper. Paper 1 is multiple choice, Paper 2 structured, and the investigation is a separate internal task. The tutor marks practice scripts to the scheme and explains why each mark was lost.

For the investigation a Nalbari tutor can advise on a question that can be measured, a method that can be repeated and the treatment of uncertainty. Writing the report and gathering the data remain the student's job.

The method carries over to IGCSE sciences for Nalbari students, with added drilling on the alternative-to-practical paper that replaces hands-on exams.

08

Moving from Assamese-medium classes to English-language exam papers: what helps?

Strong students in Nalbari sometimes lose marks not to difficulty but to language: they know the process, yet the mark scheme looks for particular English terms. Bridging that is a skill, and it can be taught.

Lessons open with vocabulary: a compact glossary per subject linking each English term to its Assamese equivalent. Nalbari students then redo past answers with the new words, and quickly see the difference.

Daily reading does more than most families expect. A short English article each day builds the stamina and vocabulary long papers demand, and for English subjects a weekly timed paragraph builds structure and speed.

Spoken English completes the picture. For the IB Individual Oral and IGCSE speaking components, a Nalbari student needs to have discussed topics aloud, so lessons keep a conversational thread. Two or three terms usually suffice.

    Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Nalbari: your questions answered

Are there local IB tutors near Nalbari?+

We know of none, which is why the service is online. A tutor who has taught your Nalbari child's exact course is chosen from across India, and the first lesson costs nothing.

Is private tuition at home available in Nalbari?+

Yes, in the sense that the lesson happens at your child's own desk, one to one, with the tutor online. Tutors do not visit Nalbari homes, as in-person lessons run only in Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR.

Where is the nearest IB or IGCSE school to Nalbari?+

The closest ones we can name are in the cities shown in the school section above, since no school in Nalbari is confirmed. Check each school's own information before relying on it.

Is private-candidate entry possible for a Nalbari student?+

Often, yes. Approved centres, usually in a larger city such as Guwahati, accept private candidates for Cambridge or Pearson papers. The family handles registration and the tutor handles teaching. Dates are strict.

What affects the cost of IB or IGCSE tuition in Nalbari?+

Four things: the course, the level, the tutor's track record and the hours each week. A Nalbari family receives a written figure after the trial class. Lessons are online, which removes the travel that a trip to Guwahati would add.

Which subjects do families from Nalbari ask tutors for?+

Usually the heavy ones: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology, then Economics and English A. Assamese B draws interest too.

Does a Nalbari tutor write the IA?+

No. In Nalbari, as everywhere, the tutor's job is to teach and give feedback on your child's own draft against the published criteria. Writing any part of an IA, Extended Essay, TOK essay or coursework is something we never do.

How hard is the switch from Assamese to English-medium exams?+

It takes effort for a term or two. We start with glossaries and model answers, then move to timed papers. Nalbari students often find the ideas easy and the phrasing the only new thing.

What if the internet drops during a lesson in Nalbari?+

We carry on by audio with a shared document, or move the lesson. A phone hotspot as backup helps in Nalbari. Video and a shared board run on a few Mbps.

Which IGCSE board is easier to sit from Nalbari?+

Neither is easier; availability decides. Cambridge has more approved centres and an October-November series, and Edexcel offers January. A Nalbari student follows the board of the centre where they are entered.

What is the right age to begin tutoring in Nalbari?+

Early helps. A Nalbari child moving towards the Diploma gains from support in Class 9 or 10, particularly in Mathematics and English. Younger MYP and PYP learners can begin at any point, and final-year students can take a focused intensive.

How long is a lesson for a Nalbari student?+

Plan on one to one and a half hours per lesson, once or twice in a week, and a third slot in the run-up to an exam. Independent practice of a few hours per subject sits on top, and we fit it round the Nalbari school timetable and the dusk that falls before five in winter.

Can a Nalbari student combine IB with JEE or NEET preparation?+

Possible, if the timetable is honest. HL Mathematics and HL Physics cover ground that JEE Main also tests, and HL Biology overlaps with NEET, so revision done once can count twice. Because the National Testing Agency can alter eligibility conditions, a Nalbari family should check them each year.

What is the first step for a Nalbari family?+

Write to support@ibgram.com or message +91 7439 368 115 on WhatsApp, saying which programme, subject, level, board and class your Nalbari child is in. We reply with tutor options and a trial slot. Nothing is paid before the free lesson.

Is switching tutors possible for Nalbari students?+

Yes, without awkwardness. Fit matters more than any credential. Say so after a lesson and we suggest someone else, handing over the notes so your Nalbari child continues where they stopped.

Who runs the tutoring offered in Nalbari?+

IB Gram, an independent tutoring service. It is not connected with the International Baccalaureate, Cambridge, Pearson or any school named on this page. Tutors are based in India and teach Nalbari students online.
