IB and IGCSE Tutors and Online Home Tuition in Nahan

Anyone in Nahan searching for home tuition in an IB or IGCSE course will find that the lesson has to come over video, since no tutor of these syllabuses lives in the Sirmaur hills and ours do not travel here. What we can do is match your child with a teacher who has already taught the same course, then run private live lessons at the family table.

  • A tutor who has already taught the very IB or IGCSE course your child studies
  • Live video lessons only; no tutor climbs the hill to a Nahan home
  • The first lesson is free
  • No connection with any board, school or university named below

IB & IGCSE in Nahan

Studying IB or IGCSE at home in the hills of Nahan

Nahan sits at about 930 metres on a ridge in the Sirmaur district of Himachal Pradesh, the old capital of the princely state of Sirmur and still the district headquarters. The Rani Tal pond, the Pakka Tank, the Chaugan ground and the ruins of the fort give the town its character; the Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar Government Medical College, opened in 2016, and the Government Post Graduate College give it students. Schools follow the Himachal board or CBSE, and we found no school in Nahan that we could confirm teaches the IB or a Cambridge or Edexcel IGCSE.

A family here that wants one of those courses is therefore choosing between sending the child away to a boarding campus and learning at home through a screen. Our service is built for the second. A tutor in another Indian city and the student in Nahan meet on video and share a whiteboard. Tutors never come to Nahan; our in-person teaching exists only in Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR.

Inquiries tend to come from a handful of backgrounds. Army and paramilitary families posted to the hills who have moved between Kendriya Vidyalayas and international schools. Doctors and faculty at the medical college. Businesspeople from the Kala Amb and Paonta Sahib industrial belt. And families in the district who see an international certificate as the first step towards a university in the UK, Canada or Australia.

IB Gram is an independent service. It has no connection with the International Baccalaureate, Cambridge, Pearson or any school, and its tutors teach and coach only: no Internal Assessment, Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge essay or coursework is written for a student.

At a glance

  • Private live lessons in IB PYP, MYP and Diploma, and in Cambridge or Edexcel IGCSE
  • Online in Nahan; in-person lessons are confined to Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR
  • A written note after every class
  • A different tutor if the first is not right
  • Fees written down before you pay
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to Nahan school years

In Sirmaur the nearest IB classroom is a long drive away, so a tutor often stands in for it. Here is what each of the four stages means for a Nahan family.

PYPAges 3-12, Nursery to Class 5

IB Primary Years Programme

Pupils explore themes such as how we organise ourselves instead of memorising separate subjects, ending with a self-chosen Exhibition. Early tutoring builds reading, number sense and a questioning habit.

Most PYP enquiries from Nahan involve a child who began in a metro school during a parent's earlier posting and now lives in the hills.

MYPAges 11-16, Class 6 to 10

IB Middle Years Programme

Marks are given for each published criterion, and the programme ends with a Personal Project. Pupils learn to show why an answer is right.

Without an MYP class in the district, a tutor spells out what each criterion rewards and models a top-band answer.

DPAges 16-19, Class 11 and 12

IB Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three at Higher and three at Standard Level, plus an Extended Essay, a TOK course and CAS activities. Written papers and school-marked work decide the points.

Sirmaur students who consider the Diploma usually plan on medicine, engineering, hospitality or study abroad, and ask first about Mathematics and the sciences.

CPAges 16-19, Class 11 and 12

IB Career-related Programme

A smaller set of Diploma courses taken with a career-related study and a reflective project, shaped for students with practical aims.

We know of no school in Sirmaur that runs the Career-related Programme, so tutoring here supports only its academic courses.

Subject coverage

IB subjects we tutor

Give us the exact course, level and session. An Applications and Interpretation SL student and an Analysis and Approaches HL student need different teachers, and we choose accordingly.

IB Maths Analysis & Approaches

HL / SL

Algebra, calculus and proof in alternating blocks with timed papers, and an Exploration topic settled early.

IB Maths Applications & Interpretation

HL / SL

Statistics, modelling and calculator technique together, since the questions rest on real datasets.

IB Physics

HL / SL

Mechanics, waves, fields and quantum ideas as numerical practice, with attention to graph work and uncertainties.

IB Chemistry

HL / SL

Mole calculations, bonding, equilibrium and organic routes tested in short, repeated quizzes.

IB Biology

HL / SL

Genetics, ecology and physiology learned with exact terms; the Himalayan foothill ecosystems supply fresh examples.

IB Economics

HL / SL

Diagrams with a one-line explanation under each; apple orchards, tourism and industrial estates are close to hand.

IB Business Management

HL / SL

Reading a case quickly and choosing the tool that fits; family firms in the Paonta and Kala Amb belt make familiar cases.

IB English A Language & Literature

HL / SL

Close reading of unseen texts, essay planning and the oral commentary, each practised on its own.

IB Computer Science

HL / SL

Algorithms, data structures and networks in exam pseudocode before the project.

IB Psychology

HL / SL

Landmark studies and criticisms, shaped into well-built extended responses.

IB Geography

HL / SL

Case studies with real figures; Himalayan landslides, rivers and mountain tourism are natural local examples.

IB Environmental Systems & Societies

SL

Forests, water and fragile hill ecosystems make the syllabus concrete for Sirmaur students.

IB History

HL / SL

Source analysis and argued essays, drawing on the Sirmur princely-state setting where options allow.

IB Hindi B

HL / SL

Comprehension, formal writing and speaking for pupils taking Hindi as their language of study.

Theory of Knowledge (TOK)

DP Core

Tutors explore knowledge questions in conversation; essay and exhibition are produced by the pupil alone.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around Nahan school timetables

Three arrangements cover most Nahan households. The lesson is always a private live video session; what differs is why it is booked and how often.

A set weekly class

The same teacher at the same hour each week, covering the specification in sequence, with homework corrected before the next class.

  • Works for IB, IGCSE and MYP subjects
  • Digital whiteboard shared during class
  • Homework photographed and sent back with comments
  • One steady tutor across the year

An international course beside the Himachal board

For a pupil on the roll of a local school who follows an IB or IGCSE syllabus after school hours or at weekends.

  • Avoids the school's term-test weeks
  • Teaches only the international course
  • Monthly summary for parents
  • Helps before a boarding or NCR move

Short exam-time sprint

A compact run of classes around timed papers, marking and retesting of the weakest topics.

  • Papers marked to official schemes
  • Repeated errors recorded and retested
  • Starts four to six weeks before the paper
  • Planned around Bhoodhi Diwali and winter closures

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Nahan

01

Is there an IB or IGCSE school in Nahan or Sirmaur?

  • No confirmed IB or IGCSE school in Nahan or Sirmaur district
  • Local choice is Himachal board, CBSE, Kendriya Vidyalaya and Navodaya
  • Nearest established options are Mussoorie boarding schools and the NCR
  • Check the official IB and Cambridge directories for new approvals

Not one that we could confirm. Nahan's schools range from government institutions and Kendriya Vidyalaya to private CBSE and Himachal-board schools, along with the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya for rural talent. Higher education centres on the Government Post Graduate College and the medical college.

For an international programme, families look outward. Dehradun and the hill boarding schools around Mussoorie lie within a day's travel, Chandigarh is closer, and the NCR holds the largest group of IB and Cambridge campuses. Sending a child away to board is a significant decision, and many families wait until Class 9 or 11 before choosing it.

In the meantime, or instead, a student can follow an international course from Nahan. A mother who taught at a Pune international school before marrying into a Sirmaur family, or an officer who served in Delhi and wants the child to keep the same syllabus, will find online one-to-one tuition less disruptive than a change of city.

Because approvals move, ask any school that claims an IB or Cambridge programme for its authorisation, and compare it with the official directories before you pay.

02

Himachal board, CBSE, IB and IGCSE side by side

The Himachal Pradesh board, known as HPBOSE, runs the Class 10 and 12 examinations in most state and many private schools, with Hindi and English media. CBSE schools in and around Nahan link directly to JEE, NEET and CUET. IB and IGCSE are portable abroad but need deliberate planning for Indian entrance exams.

The sharpest difference is in the question paper. HPBOSE papers reward remembered textbook content. CBSE adds application. IGCSE and IB give the student unfamiliar material and ask for reasoning in full sentences, and the Diploma adds an Extended Essay, TOK and a service element.

For many Himachal families the board plus focused coaching is still the shortest road to Indian medical and engineering seats, and nobody should feel pushed away from it. An international course makes more sense when the family expects to move, when study abroad is a genuine goal or when the child learns best by explaining.

03

What do IB and IGCSE private tuition fees depend on?

  • Rate follows level, subject, tutor and frequency
  • Quote in writing before any payment
  • First lesson free
  • No travel on winding hill roads

A price list would not fit most families, so none is printed. A written quote arrives after the free first lesson, once we know the subject, level and how much help the child needs.

Four things set the figure. Subject and level: a Higher Level science tutor is rarer than a primary reading coach. The tutor's record with your child's specification. The pattern of lessons, since a weekly rhythm across a year differs from a six-week exam sprint. And the length of the commitment.

Hill families also avoid costs that rarely appear on a bill: no taxi down to Kala Amb or Chandigarh for a class, no half-day lost on mountain roads in the rains and no premium for a teacher prepared to reach a smaller town. You need only a laptop, a reliable connection and a table.

A cautious family can start with one lesson a week on the hardest subject and widen the plan only if it is helping.

04

How do cold winters and monsoon rains affect study in Nahan?

Nahan's year divides into clear seasons. Winters from December to February are cold, with frost and an occasional dusting of snow at higher points in Sirmaur, and school hours are shortened. The monsoon between July and September can bring landslides, blocked roads and power cuts. Spring and autumn are mild and the best study seasons.

That pattern matters for exam planning. IB Diploma papers are written in May and results arrive in early July. Cambridge IGCSE has February-March, May-June and October-November windows; Edexcel IGCSE has January, May-June and October-November. Private candidates in Nahan enter through an authorised centre in a larger city, long before the series.

Festivals also fall in distinct ways. Lohri and Magh Sankranti in January, Baisakhi in April, Diwali in autumn and Sirmaur's own Bhoodhi Diwali, celebrated about a month later, all pull families away from desks.

For a May paper we count back: content complete by January, past papers in March and April, light revision in the final fortnight.

05

Where can IB and IGCSE students from Nahan study next?

  • IB Diploma: AIU equivalence, CUET-UG, direct entry abroad
  • IGCSE: bridge to Class 11, A Level or Diploma
  • NEET and JEE: verify the subject rules each year
  • Draw up a shortlist by Year 12

The Diploma opens doors in Britain, Canada, Australia, the United States and Europe. In India, the Association of Indian Universities can treat it as the equal of Class 12 when conditions are met, and central universities admitting by CUET-UG weigh IB candidates against each programme's subject list.

Medicine and engineering at home are stricter. NEET-UG and JEE Main name the subjects they want, so confirm that Physics, Chemistry and either Biology or Mathematics are among the six. IGCSE ends at Class 10 and leads to Class 11 in any board, the Diploma or A Levels.

Nahan students also ask about local options: Himachal Pradesh University and its affiliated colleges, the Shoolini and Chitkara private universities in Himachal, and Chandigarh and Dehradun institutions. Each sets its own terms for international certificates, so ask the admissions desk directly.

Tutors help with subject choices and predicted grades but do not write personal statements.

06

How are IB Maths and the sciences taught over a video link?

Mathematics tends to lead the discussion. Analysis and Approaches rewards a taste for algebra, calculus and proof, and is the usual route to engineering. Applications and Interpretation suits business, economics and biology because it is built on data and technology. Higher Level means several hours of solo practice each week.

The Exploration is the Mathematics internal assessment. A tutor helps pick a topic that can be handled, interprets the criteria and rehearses the explanation, but the report and the calculations belong to the student.

Science is taught on a shared board, and the Individual Investigation needs a sound design. Where a laboratory is hard to reach, the tutor can still guide the research question, uncertainty analysis and write-up by video while the pupil does the experiment at school.

Marks leak in familiar places: organic routes and equilibrium in Chemistry, units and graphs in Physics, loose wording in Biology. Each class takes one and drills it.

Where marks slip and what a class does about it
SubjectCommon slipWhat the tutor doesWhat the pupil then practises
Maths AA HLLosing the thread in multi-step calculusSolves one with the pupil, then asks for a blank-page repeatTimed sections of Paper 1 and 2

07

Choosing IGCSE tiers and subjects from Nahan

Cambridge splits many subjects into Core and Extended papers, and Edexcel into Foundation and Higher. The lower paper limits the grade you can reach; the higher opens the full range. Pupils aiming at A Level sciences, the Diploma or a selective degree should plan for the higher paper from the outset.

A sensible bundle for a pupil who may study engineering is Mathematics, Additional Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science and English. Future doctors add Biology and commerce-minded pupils take Business Studies and Economics. Five to eight subjects is usual.

Combining IGCSE with a Himachal-board school is possible through evening classes and private entry. It is heavy going, so start in Class 8 or 9. A diagnostic paper each term keeps the tier decision honest.

08

What happens between your first message and the first lesson?

You write with the class, board, subject and exam date. We propose a tutor and arrange a free trial, in which the child attempts a real topic while a parent may watch.

From then on, classes are video calls with a shared whiteboard. The pupil tackles problems, photographs the page and sends it for marking, and a short note records the topics, the weak spots and the homework.

If the pairing is poor we change the tutor. If the hour clashes with school, we move it. Everyone teaches on Indian Standard Time.

The equipment list is short: a laptop or tablet, earphones if the house is noisy and a connection that copes with video.

Where we tutor

Nahan and Sirmaur areas our online tutors serve

Teaching is by video, so none of these places requires a tutor to travel. The notes below show how each locality's roads, schools and seasons affect the best lesson hour.

Nahan town centre

The ridge-top core around Mall Road and the Chaugan, with most of the town's schools and coaching within walking distance.

Rani Tal and Pakka Tank area

Old residential lanes near the ponds; steep gradients make winter evening journeys unpleasant, so home lessons suit.

Medical college area

Households of faculty, doctors and students around the government medical college, where evening schedules vary with hospital duty.

Kala Amb

The industrial town seventeen kilometres below, whose business families sometimes look to Chandigarh and Dehradun for schooling.

Paonta Sahib

A Yamuna-bank town of about forty-five kilometres with a major gurdwara and a large industrial belt on the Uttarakhand border.

Trilokpur

A temple village twenty-three kilometres away on the Kala Amb side, where specialist subjects are hard to find locally.

Suketi

Known for its fossil park, a small settlement where students depend on buses to reach larger schools.

Renukaji

The lakeside pilgrimage town in the district, with students who rely on Nahan or Paonta for senior-school options.

Rajgarh and Sangrah

Higher hill areas of Sirmaur where winter weather and poor roads sometimes close schools for days.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Nahan

Nahan and Sirmaur district

Schooling follows the Himachal Pradesh board and CBSE, with Kendriya Vidyalaya and Navodaya options. No IB or IGCSE campus could be confirmed, so those courses are studied at home with an online tutor.

    Nearby: Chandigarh and Dehradun

Chandigarh is about 85 kilometres and Dehradun about 92 kilometres from Nahan, and both have larger school markets. We could not confirm an IB or IGCSE campus in either from a school's own page and so name none.

      Nearby: Mussoorie boarding belt

The hill-station boarding belt above Dehradun is a traditional choice for families who want a full international curriculum. Online tutoring helps with holidays and with preparation before a move.

      • Woodstock School, Mussoorie

      Nearby: Delhi and the NCR

The NCR, a long day's journey away, holds the biggest cluster of international schools within reach.

      • The British School, New Delhi
      • Pathways World School, Aravali

No Nahan school is listed here as an IB or Cambridge or Edexcel IGCSE school because none could be confirmed. The schools named under Mussoorie and the NCR are mentioned only to describe options some families weigh up, and they have no tie to IB Gram.

      Why families choose us

What Nahan parents tell us matters most

      Course-level matching

Tutors are selected for the specific syllabus and level, not the subject label.

      No mountain roads

The classroom is the family table, which spares hill journeys in winter ice and monsoon landslides.

      Teaching, not ghost-writing

Tutors explain and correct; every assessed piece stays the pupil's own.

      Parents see progress

A brief report after each class shows what was covered.

      Adjustable at will

A new tutor or time is arranged on request.

      Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Nahan: your questions answered

Are there IB and IGCSE tutors for Nahan?+

There are, over video. Your child gets live, private lessons from a tutor who knows the IB or IGCSE course in question and stays in their own Nahan home throughout. Tutors do not travel here, as face-to-face tuition is limited to Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR. The first lesson is free.

Will a tutor come to our house in Nahan?+

No. Home visits do not happen in Nahan or anywhere in Himachal Pradesh; they are confined to Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR. What a Nahan family receives is online home tuition, with the pupil at their own desk and the tutor on live video.

Does Nahan have an IB or Cambridge school?+

None that we could verify. Local schools work to the Himachal board or CBSE, with Kendriya Vidyalaya and Navodaya options. Families look to Mussoorie, Dehradun, Chandigarh or the NCR for international campuses. If a school claims a new programme, ask for its authorisation.

What will IB tuition cost for a Nahan student?+

No fixed figure applies. The cost follows the subject, the level, the tutor's experience with that syllabus and the number of lessons per week. A written quotation follows the free trial. Lessons are online, so there is no travel spend, and exam blocks can be quoted separately.

Can my child take IGCSE next to a Himachal board school?+

Many pupils manage it. School fills the day, IGCSE classes take the evening, and the papers are sat privately. As the weekly load is heavy, start in Class 8 or 9 and keep the subject list short at the beginning.

      Cambridge or Edexcel: which IGCSE?+

Universities respect both. Cambridge offers more subjects and three sittings a year, while Edexcel is common in Mathematics and the sciences and phrases its questions differently. The nearest exam centre and your child's subject mix usually decide it.

Will the tutor write the Internal Assessment or Extended Essay?+

Not the writing. A tutor can clarify what the criteria reward, read a draft and point out where an argument is unclear, but never composes, polishes or completes an assessed piece. Everything submitted must be the pupil's own work.

How do IB Maths AA and AI differ?+

They share a label but not a syllabus. Analysis and Approaches goes deep into algebra, calculus and proof; Applications and Interpretation spends more time on statistics, modelling and technology. Tell us which one and which level, and we find a tutor who has taught exactly that.

What equipment does a student need?+

One laptop or tablet with a camera, internet that copes with video, a notebook and a quiet corner. A phone is handy for sending photographs of written work. If the hill connection is poor, we agree a hotspot or recorded back-up beforehand.

Do classes continue when snow, rain or landslides close roads?+

Usually, since a video class needs only power and a signal. If weather removes either, the slot moves or a recording is shared. During July to September we suggest keeping a spare slot each week in case of an outage.

Can my child move from the Himachal board to IB later?+

Yes. The easiest moments are the end of Class 8 and the end of Class 10. Tutors compare the syllabuses, fill gaps and teach the IB style of answering. The Diploma itself needs a school that offers it, usually in Mussoorie or the NCR, so tutoring can start months earlier.

Are you connected to the IB, Cambridge or Pearson?+

We are not. IB Gram is a stand-alone tutoring business, with no standing as a school, exam centre or admissions adviser, and nothing here implies backing from the IB, Cambridge, Pearson or any school named. We sell teaching and exam coaching only.

How do we enter IGCSE exams privately?+

A registered exam centre files the entry, in this region usually in Chandigarh, Dehradun or Delhi. Book it many months before the session, since fees, closing dates and seat numbers differ. We supply the subject codes and the calendar.

What if my child does not get on with the tutor?+

Say so and the pairing changes, with no charge. A short talk about what felt off, whether pace, explanations or personality, guides who we suggest next, and a second trial lesson is available. Comfort matters more than politeness to the first match.

Can lessons fit around army or hospital shift timings?+

Mostly. Tutors keep Indian Standard Time and many offer dawn, late-evening and weekend hours. Share the family's duty roster and the weekly timetable can be drawn around it, with a parent nearby if the child is young.

      How do I begin?+

Send a WhatsApp message to +91 7439 368 115 or an email to support@ibgram.com stating the class, board, subjects and exam month. A tutor suggestion and a trial time normally come back within a day.
