IB & IGCSE Home Tutors in Sion, Mumbai

An IB and IGCSE home tutor in Sion is easier to arrange than the address suggests. Sion sits at the mouth of the Santacruz–Chembur Link Road, so home tuition here draws on both the island-city tutor pool and the Chembur, Powai and Ghatkopar pool. We match on your approach road, your child's board and the evening window that actually holds.

Tutors matched from both the island pool and the eastern suburbs
Subject codes and board experience checked before any name reaches you
Standing weekday evening slots built around the Sion Circle traffic pattern

How we match an IB and IGCSE home tutor in Sion to your child

A request for an IB and IGCSE home tutor in Sion begins with four facts rather than a form. We need the board and year written the way the school writes it: Primary Years Programme (PYP), Middle Years Programme (MYP) 3, Diploma Programme (DP) 1, or IGCSE Year 10. We need the subjects and their levels. We need your approach road. And we need two evening windows you can hold for a full term, because a slot that works in June and collapses in November is worse than no slot at all.

The approach road is not a formality here. The name Sion covers at least five different arrivals: Sion East towards the station and Sion Circle, Sion West towards Matunga and the Gandhi Market blocks, Sion-Koliwada, the Sion–Trombay Road stretch running out towards Chembur, and the Antop Hill flank leaning towards Wadala. A tutor coming off the Eastern Express Highway reaches the Circle quickly and can then lose a quarter of an hour crossing the junction to the Matunga side. Telling us the road, not just the pin, changes which tutors we call.

Then we search two pools at once, which is the part that is genuinely different about this address. One pool lives on the island: Matunga, Dadar, Wadala, Parel, Sewri. The other lives east and north of the Mithi: Chembur, Powai, Chandivali, Ghatkopar, Kurla. Because the Santacruz–Chembur Link Road lands at Sion, both pools are live for a weekday evening slot here. You get two or three names with the subject codes each has taught, the route they will take and the arrival window they are willing to commit to. None of it is automated; a shortlist for DP Economics Higher Level (HL) is built by hand, because the pool is small enough that we already know who is committed to a Tuesday.

  • 1. Send board, year, subjects, levels, your Sion approach road and two evening windows.
  • 2. We shortlist across the island pool and the eastern suburb pool.
  • 3. You see subject codes taught, the travel route and a committed arrival window.
  • 4. Meet the tutor, run one session, then confirm a standing weekly slot.
  • 5. We review fit at four weeks and change tutors if needed.

Which programme is your child actually in: PYP, MYP, DP or IGCSE?

Four systems sit behind the word tuition in Mumbai: the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP) for Years 1 to 5, IGCSE for Years 9 to 11 under Cambridge International Education or Pearson Edexcel, and the IB Diploma Programme (DP) for the final two years. A tutor who is strong in one is not automatically useful in another, and parents routinely describe the wrong one on a first call.

PYP sets no external papers, so tuition at that stage is about reading fluency, number sense and the habit of explaining an answer rather than only producing one. MYP is where families in Sion usually first ask for help, because MYP reporting is criterion-based: each subject group is marked against criteria A to D on eight-point scales, and a child can write a page of correct content and still score a four because the task asked for analysis and received description. MYP 5 adds the Personal Project, assessed on its own criteria, which quietly eats weekends from September onwards.

IGCSE brings the first decision that follows a child for two years: Core or Extended. Core caps the grade available; Extended opens the full range and adds both content and a harder paper. Schools stream for this in Year 9 or early Year 10, often before a parent has understood the consequence. An IGCSE tutor's first job is frequently not content at all, it is working out whether the child is in the right tier and whether a move is still possible this year.

The Diploma Programme is a different animal: six subjects at Higher Level (HL) or Standard Level (SL), plus Theory of Knowledge (TOK), the Extended Essay (EE) and Creativity, Activity, Service. Every subject carries an Internal Assessment (IA) marked at school and moderated by the IB, so the marks that decide a Diploma are spread across two years. A DP1 who treats the first year as a warm-up spends DP2 repairing it. An IB and IGCSE tutor Mumbai families keep for two years is usually the one who fits the schedule, not the one with the longest subject list.

  • PYP: no external exams, so tuition targets reading, number sense and explanation.
  • MYP: criteria A to D, eight-point scales, and the MYP 5 Personal Project.
  • IGCSE: the Core or Extended tier is set in Year 9 or early Year 10.
  • DP: six subjects at HL or SL, plus TOK, the Extended Essay and CAS.
  • Every DP subject carries an Internal Assessment marked at school, moderated externally.

Subject choice, HL and SL, and the Core or Extended decision

Subject choice across both boards is the quietest determinant of a final grade, and most families settle it with less information than they would use to buy a phone. At IGCSE the live questions are Co-ordinated Sciences 0654 against separate Biology 0610, Chemistry 0620 and Physics 0625; whether Additional Mathematics is worth carrying; and whether a second language is being taken because the child wants it or because the timetable allowed it. Some parents want one all IB and IGCSE subjects tutor in Sion rather than three specialists, and at MYP level that is often sensible.

Co-ordinated Sciences is the clearest case. It awards two IGCSEs instead of three, covers all three sciences in less depth and sits one fewer paper set. For a child heading towards DP Economics, Business Management or a language-heavy Diploma, that is a sound trade. For a child who intends to take two DP sciences at Higher Level, it removes roughly a year of depth the Diploma will assume is there. The choice is reversible in Year 9 and effectively final by the middle of Year 10, which is why it deserves an hour of a tutor's time before it is made.

Component-level work looks like this. DP Economics HL sits Paper 3, the quantitative paper that SL candidates never see. A typical part asks the candidate to calculate price elasticity of demand from a table of figures, then, several marks later, to recommend a policy. Students lose the early marks for arithmetic that never states the formula and never carries the sign convention, and lose the recommendation marks for writing an essay with no diagram and no reference to the number they just produced. A tutor who has marked Paper 3 drills the sequence: state the formula, substitute, interpret the sign, draw the diagram, then recommend with the figure inside the sentence. That is technique rather than content, and it moves marks within a term.

Each subject also carries its own Internal Assessment with its own failure mode: a Sciences IA that collects data before the research question is sharp, a Mathematics exploration containing no mathematics beyond the syllabus, a History IA whose sources are all secondary, a Language A essay with no close reading. The first thing we ask a new DP tutor is which IAs they have supervised and which rubric strand their students lose most often.

  • Core or Extended is streamed in Year 9 and hard to reverse afterwards.
  • Co-ordinated Sciences 0654 awards two IGCSEs instead of three separate sciences.
  • HL adds content, extra papers in some subjects and deeper IA expectations.
  • Economics HL Paper 3 is quantitative and SL candidates never sit it.
  • Every Internal Assessment has its own rubric and its own common failure.

Sion, Matunga, Wadala and Kurla: what the SCLR changes about tutor supply

Sion sits on the Sion–Dharavi junction in Mumbai, Maharashtra, where the island city stops being an island in any practical sense. The Mithi River, Dharavi, the Sion–Bandra Link Road and the Eastern Express Highway all converge within a couple of kilometres, and Sion station is the last Central Line stop before the line crosses to Kurla. The consequence for tuition is specific: Sion is the one South Mumbai address where a tutor living in the eastern or central suburbs is a realistic weekday-evening proposition, because the Santacruz–Chembur Link Road lands here.

Compare that with the rest of the island. South Mumbai is dense and short in distance but slow: a tutor crossing from Worli to Colaba covers about eight kilometres and can still lose forty minutes to the Peddar Road and Haji Ali signals in the evening peak, which is why tutors further south are matched within the island rather than brought down from the suburbs. Sion escapes that logic. A tutor in Chembur or Powai reaches Sion in under half an hour on the SCLR, and the direction of flow helps: the dominant evening movement is outbound towards the suburbs, so an inbound run from the east is lighter than the map implies.

That makes Sion a seam rather than an edge, and the gain is availability. Matunga is minutes away and parts of Sion West are a walk from it, so a tutor working a Matunga slot can take a Sion slot the same evening. Wadala is reached by the Monorail from Chembur and by the Eastern Freeway from the south, which gives a Wadala-based tutor a short run north. Kurla is the next Central Line station and the eastern mouth of the SCLR, so a Kurla tutor is effectively a local one. IB and IGCSE home tuition in Sion therefore starts from a wider shortlist than a comparable address in Worli or Mahim, and that shows up most in thin HL subjects.

The caveats are real and worth planning for. The Kurla end of the SCLR has its own bottleneck, the Sion Circle approach backs up whenever Dharavi-side traffic does, and in July and August the low ground around Gandhi Market and the rail underpass floods badly enough to end a session before it starts. So a tutor crossing the seam is given an arrival window rather than a time, and every family here should agree a monsoon fallback in June, before the week they need it.

  • Sion station is the last Central Line stop before Kurla.
  • The SCLR puts Chembur, Powai and Chandivali tutors within reach of Sion.
  • Matunga is walkable from parts of Sion West; Wadala is minutes by road.
  • Kurla sits at the eastern mouth of the SCLR and counts as local.
  • Gandhi Market and the Sion underpass flood in July: plan an online fallback.

The school calendar Sion families plan around

IB Gram is an independent tutoring platform and is not affiliated with any school named on this page; schools appear here because their calendars set the dates families work around. Children in Sion are spread across several international schools rather than concentrated in one. Don Bosco International School in Matunga is the closest, a short run north-west from most Sion addresses. Witty International School's Chembur campus is reached down the Sion–Trombay Road or across the SCLR, which is the same corridor the tutors use.

The Mumbai international school year opens in the first half of June, and that start lands inside the monsoon, which matters more at this address than it does in Bandra. By late August the first MYP summative tasks are graded and the first awkward conversation about criterion scores happens. October and November bring IGCSE coursework deadlines and the Year 11 mock series. January and February are the DP1 Internal Assessment proposal months and the DP2 mock exams, often in the same fortnight. March and April are the real squeeze, with the IGCSE May/June series and the DP May session starting while the Extended Essay is already in and TOK essays are done.

Put a real child into that calendar. A DP2 candidate living near Sion Circle, sitting May exams, has her Economics HL Paper 3 practice competing with a TOK exhibition commentary and a school mock timetable that will not move. Her tutor holds a ninety-minute Wednesday slot and nothing else, so the two of them spend February on Paper 3 technique and shift content revision to a Saturday double. That sequencing decision is worth more than an extra hour a week, and it only exists because the slot was booked in November rather than in February, when every capable tutor in Mumbai is already committed.

So we ask which school and which year group before we ask about subjects. A tutor who already works with children at the same school knows when its internal deadlines fall, knows which textbook and syllabus year is in use, and does not spend three sessions working it out. Families at Don Bosco International School and at Witty International School are not on identical calendars, and the difference shows up in November when one set of deadlines arrives a fortnight ahead of the other.

  • The school year opens in June, inside the monsoon, not in September.
  • Late August: first MYP summative grades and criterion-score conversations.
  • October and November: IGCSE coursework deadlines and Year 11 mocks.
  • January and February: DP1 IA proposals collide with DP2 mock exams.
  • Book exam-year slots in November; February shortlists are already committed.

Home tuition, online or hybrid for a Sion address?

Home tuition is the default here and should be. A tutor at your dining table sees the actual notebook, the actual school worksheet and the actual mess in the filing, and a DP2 student loses no time to the road in a week with three deadlines. Online is the right second choice rather than a cheaper substitute, and hybrid is where most Diploma families end up.

Most families who ask for an IB and IGCSE home tutor in Sion want the same arrangement: a fixed weekday evening, the same room every week, and a parent within earshot without sitting in the session. Home classes also solve the sibling case, since all IB and IGCSE subjects home classes Sion families run back to back on a Saturday morning cost one travel trip instead of two. The honest price of home tuition is travel: a tutor who gives up ninety minutes of an evening to the road accounts for that, and a session lost to a flooded Tuesday is lost rather than rescheduled.

An IB and IGCSE online tutor in Sion is the sensible answer in three situations. The first is scarcity: Computer Science HL, Visual Arts, French B or Economics HL sometimes has no free specialist within reach, and an online specialist from elsewhere in Mumbai or outside it beats a nearby generalist every time. The second is monsoon weeks, when the underpass is standing water and nobody is driving. The third is the short, frequent session: a thirty-minute paper review two days before a test does not justify a car journey in either direction.

Hybrid works when the split is deliberate. Put the long session at home on the weekend for IA work, drafting and anything involving diagrams, and a short online session midweek for marking, doubts and timed questions. The trade-offs deserve saying plainly: online needs a quiet room, a stable connection and some way for the tutor to see handwritten working, usually a phone on a stand pointed at the page. It also needs a parent to hold the line, because an online slot is the first thing a tired fifteen-year-old tries to skip.

  • Home tuition first: same room, same evening, the real notebook open.
  • Online covers scarce HL subjects and monsoon weeks without losing the term.
  • Hybrid: long weekend session at home, short midweek review online.
  • Online needs a quiet room and a camera aimed at handwritten working.
  • Back-to-back sibling home classes cost one travel trip, not two.

How is an IB and IGCSE home tutor in Sion checked before you meet them?

Before any IB and IGCSE home tutor in Sion is put in front of a parent, we verify identity, confirm the qualifications claimed and test board experience by asking for specifics: which syllabus code, which assessment session, which Internal Assessments supervised, which papers marked. A general claim to teach the IB does not survive that conversation.

The subject-code question does most of the work. A tutor who has genuinely taught IGCSE Chemistry can tell you it is 0620, say what changed in the current syllabus and name the paper their students lose marks on. A tutor who has supervised Diploma Internal Assessments can say where candidates fall down on the rubric, and knows the academic-honesty line: a tutor may teach the skill, interrogate a research question and challenge a draft, but the IA must be the candidate's own work. Anyone offering to write or heavily rewrite an IA is a risk to the Diploma, not a shortcut through it.

Then there is what you check yourself, in the first session, in your own home. Put one of your child's recently marked answers in front of the tutor and ask them to mark it again and explain the difference. Ask what the command term evaluate requires that explain does not. Ask how they would structure the next four weeks. Ask what they will send you after each session. Parents ask us who the best IB and IGCSE tutor in Sion is, and the honest answer is that there is no single best tutor, only the one whose explanation your child follows.

We also check the dull things that decide whether an arrangement survives a term: whether the tutor can hold your window every week from their own address, whether they have worked a Sion address before and know the junction, and whether they already carry two other evening slots that will start eating into yours in February. Searches as blunt as IB and IGCSE tutors near me Sion are usually about travel reliability rather than teaching quality, and that is a reasonable thing to care about first.

  • Identity and qualification claims verified before a name reaches you.
  • Board experience tested by syllabus code, session and IAs supervised.
  • A tutor may challenge an IA draft; writing it breaches academic honesty.
  • Ask the tutor to re-mark one of your child's own marked answers.
  • Confirm the tutor can hold your weekly window from their own address.

What do IB and IGCSE tuition fees in Sion actually depend on?

IB and IGCSE tuition fees in Sion depend on five things: the board and level, how scarce the subject specialist is, how far and in which direction the tutor travels, how long and how often sessions run, and whether marking between sessions is included. We do not print a figure on a web page, because any figure printed here would be wrong for half the people reading it.

Board and level is the first lever. IGCSE Core work sits below IGCSE Extended, which sits below Standard Level, which sits below Higher Level, and DP2 exam-year work with Internal Assessment supervision sits above all of it because the tutor is carrying deadlines and risk as well as content. Scarcity is the second lever and sharper than parents expect. Mathematics and English specialists are available across Mumbai. Economics HL, Computer Science, Psychology, Visual Arts, French B and Business Management draw on far thinner pools, and a thin pool sets its own rate regardless of where you live.

Travel is where this address is genuinely better off, and it is the part worth understanding properly. A tutor prices an evening, not an hour. A southern address that takes fifty minutes to reach through the Peddar Road and Haji Ali signals consumes most of a tutor's evening for one session, and that shows up in what they will accept. A Sion address reached in under half an hour on the SCLR from Chembur, or in ten minutes from Matunga or Wadala, consumes far less of it. Sitting on the seam between two tutor pools means you are rarely bidding against scarcity and distance at the same time, which is the combination that makes a thin HL subject expensive elsewhere on the island.

Session length and frequency are the levers you control. One weekly ninety-minute slot on a single subject works out differently from two short sessions across two subjects, and asking a tutor to mark a full past paper between visits is extra work that should be agreed rather than assumed. So ask four things before committing: what a session includes, what marking between sessions costs, what happens to a session you cancel on the day, and whether the rate changes in the exam term. An IB and IGCSE private tutor Sion families keep across two years will answer all four without hedging.

  • Board and level: Core, Extended, SL, HL and exam-year DP all differ.
  • Scarce subjects set their own rate wherever in Mumbai you live.
  • Tutors price the evening, not the hour, so travel direction matters.
  • Marking a full past paper between sessions is extra work, agreed in advance.
  • Ask about same-day cancellation terms and whether exam-term rates change.

What progress looks like at four weeks, one term and one Mumbai exam cycle

At four weeks you should not be looking at a grade. You should be looking for four things: a written diagnosis naming the specific gaps, homework being done without a parent chasing it, your child using command terms correctly in ordinary conversation, and a tutor who can say what the next four weeks will cover and why. If none of that exists after four sessions, the match is wrong, and the fix is a different tutor rather than more hours.

At one term, expect movement in the mechanics before movement in the report. Timed questions get finished. Working gets shown. An MYP criterion score moves because the child finally writes to the strand instead of around it. A single internal grade band is a realistic term's gain for a student who was underperforming their own understanding; two bands happens, but it is not something we promise. We do not guarantee grades, and any tutor or platform in Mumbai that does is selling you something other than tuition.

Across a full exam cycle the gains are structural. A DP2 who started in DP1 has an IA submitted on time rather than in a panic, has sat each paper under timing several times, and knows mark-scheme language well enough to self-mark honestly. A student who starts in February of the exam year gets something narrower and should be told so plainly: triage, the highest-yield topics, paper technique and timing. That is worth doing, and it is a different product from two years of teaching. Being honest about the ceiling at the start is what keeps the arrangement intact after results.

When a tutor is not working out, the useful signal is not a bad week; it is three sessions with no change in what your child can do unprompted. Tell us early. We ask what specifically is not working, because sometimes the answer is the slot rather than the person: a 7pm start after a late school bus fails for reasons nobody in the room can teach their way out of. If it is the person, we move to the next name on the original shortlist, so you are not restarting from zero in the middle of a term.

  • Four weeks: a written diagnosis, homework done unchased, command terms used correctly.
  • One term: timed questions finished, working shown, one realistic grade band.
  • One exam cycle: IA submitted on time and dependable paper timing.
  • Three sessions with no unprompted change is the signal to change tutor.
  • Replacements come from the original shortlist rather than a fresh search.

Starting home classes in Sion: what to have ready

Four things make the first week of IB and IGCSE home classes in Sion useful rather than exploratory. The last report card or grade summary, with the criterion or component breakdown if the school provides one. Two or three pieces of recently marked work, including something the child did badly on. The school's assessment calendar for the term. And a decision about where the session happens: a table, a chair for the tutor, and a room with a door that shuts.

Then sort the gate. Most addresses here are co-operative housing societies around the Circle and the Matunga side, and most want a visitor entry written out every single visit. Ask the secretary or the watchman to record a standing weekly entry for a named tutor at a fixed time, and share the tutor's name and phone number in advance. A tutor arguing at the gate at 6.25pm on a Tuesday loses the first ten minutes of a session you paid for, and it will happen every week until somebody fixes it once.

The first session is diagnostic and should look like it. The tutor works through recent marked material, asks the child to attempt two or three questions unaided, and finds out what is actually missing, which in Mumbai is very often a Year 9 foundation sitting under a Year 11 syllabus. You get a short written note afterwards: what was tested, what was missing, what the next four weeks will cover. A home tutor for all IB and IGCSE subjects Mumbai parents can book once and keep is realistic at MYP level and much less realistic at Diploma level, where you want specialists per subject.

After that, protect the slot. The families who get the most out of home tuition across Sion, Matunga, Wadala and Kurla are not the ones booking the most hours; they are the ones whose Tuesday at 6.30pm has survived since June. Tell the tutor about school trips and exam weeks in advance, and expect the same courtesy on the evening the SCLR fails them.

  • Bring the last report card with its criterion or component breakdown.
  • Bring two or three recently marked papers, including a bad one.
  • Fix the room: a table, a chair and a door that shuts.
  • Register a standing weekly society entry for the named tutor.
  • Expect a written note after session one: tested, missing, next four weeks.
FAQs

Sion tutoring — questions parents ask

Can a tutor from Chembur or Powai really reach Sion for a 6.30pm session?+

Yes, and it is the single most useful fact about tuition at this address. Sion is the junction for the Santacruz–Chembur Link Road, so a tutor living in Chembur, Chandivali or Powai covers the distance in under half an hour, which is unusual for an address this close to the island city. The direction of flow helps, because the heavy evening movement is outbound towards the suburbs and an inbound run is lighter. The caveats are the Kurla-end bottleneck and the Sion Circle approach, which is why tutors here commit to a ten-minute arrival window rather than an exact minute.

How quickly can home tuition start once we send our details?+

Usually within a week for common subjects, and longer in February. IB and IGCSE home tuition in Sion is quicker to arrange than most South Mumbai addresses because the shortlist draws on both the island pool and the eastern suburbs across the SCLR. For Mathematics, the sciences, English and MYP support we can normally offer names within two or three days and start the following week. For a thin Higher Level subject in the middle of the exam term, be ready for either a wait, an online tutor, or a weekend slot instead of the weekday evening you wanted.

What do fees for an IB or IGCSE tutor here depend on?+

Board, level, subject scarcity, travel and session structure, in roughly that order. We do not publish a price list because the honest answer varies: IGCSE Core support and DP2 Higher Level work with Internal Assessment supervision are different jobs with different risk. Scarce subjects set their own rate anywhere in Mumbai. Travel is the factor this address is lucky on, since a tutor reaching you across the SCLR or from Matunga spends far less of their evening on the road than one crawling down Peddar Road. Ask what a session includes, what marking costs, and whether exam-term rates change.

Our society issues a visitor pass every single visit. How do we handle a weekly tutor?+

Register a standing weekly entry instead of relying on the gate each time. Give the society office the tutor's full name, phone number, the day and the time, and ask for it to be recorded as a recurring visit for the term. Share the tutor's number with the watchman on duty that evening as well, because the register and the man at the gate are not always the same system. Without this, a tutor spends the first ten minutes of a paid session on the phone from the gate, and around Sion Circle that repeats every week until someone fixes it.

Does online tutoring actually work for a subject with heavy diagrams and written working?+

It works if the setup handles handwriting, and fails badly if it does not. The usual failure is a laptop camera pointed at a face while the real work happens on paper out of shot. Fix it with a second device or a phone on a stand aimed at the page, plus a shared document the tutor can write on. For doubt-clearing, mark-scheme walkthroughs and timed-question review, online matches home tuition and costs nothing in travel. For teaching a topic the child has genuinely not understood, a session at the table is still better.

What happens if the tutor is not working out after three sessions?+

Tell us and we move to the next name on the original shortlist. We ask one question first: what specifically is not changing? Sometimes the answer points at the slot rather than the tutor, and a 7pm start after a late school bus is a scheduling problem no tutor can teach their way out of. If it is the person, the replacement comes from the shortlist already built for your subject and your approach road, so a handover takes days rather than a fresh search. We would rather change a tutor in week three than lose a term to politeness.

A month of sessions and the report has not moved. Is that normal?+

At four weeks, usually yes. A report reflects assessments set before the tuition started, so the honest early indicators are different ones: homework being done without chasing, timed questions being finished, correct use of command terms, and a tutor who can name the gaps in writing. What is not normal is four weeks with no written diagnosis and no plan for the next four. If your child still cannot do unprompted what the tutor covered last week, that is the signal to change. We do not guarantee grades, and no honest tutor in Mumbai will either.

Can one tutor cover every subject for two children in the same evening?+

At MYP and IGCSE level often yes; at Diploma level rarely. Back-to-back slots work well for siblings and save a travel trip, which is why they are among the most durable arrangements a family can book. A capable MYP generalist can hold Sciences and Individuals and Societies for a Year 3 and Year 5 pair without strain. At Diploma level, Higher Level subjects need specialists who have marked that paper, so two children in DP2 usually means two tutors, sometimes on different days of the week.

What happens to home sessions when Gandhi Market and the underpass flood in July?+

Agree the fallback in June, before you need it. The low ground near Gandhi Market and the Sion rail underpass takes standing water in a heavy spell, and on those evenings no tutor is reaching you from Chembur or anywhere else. The arrangement that works is a standing rule: if the road is out by 4pm, the session runs online at the same time rather than being cancelled. Families who settle this in advance lose almost nothing in July and August. Families who improvise lose two or three sessions, usually in the week before a mock.

Does a parent need to be at home during the session?+

For younger children yes, for a Diploma student not really. At PYP and early MYP an adult in the house matters, both for the child's attention and because you want to hear how the tutor explains things. From IGCSE upwards, a parent sitting in the room usually makes the session worse, because the student stops asking the questions that reveal what they do not know. The workable middle position is a session in a room with the door open, a written note from the tutor afterwards, and a proper conversation with the tutor once a month.

Will the tutor help with the Internal Assessment or Extended Essay?+

Yes, within the academic-honesty rules, and a tutor who offers more than that is a liability. A tutor can teach the skills an Internal Assessment needs, pressure-test a research question, explain the rubric strand by strand and ask hard questions about a draft the student has written. A tutor cannot write it, rewrite it or supply the analysis. Schools and the International Baccalaureate both check authenticity, and a problem there costs far more than a weak IA ever would. Ask a prospective tutor directly how they handle drafts; the answer tells you plenty.

What is the difference between exam-season help and a tutor we keep for two years?+

The difference is what you can reasonably expect from each. An IB and IGCSE private tutor Sion families keep from DP1 through DP2 shapes subject choices, supervises Internal Assessments on the real school calendar and builds paper technique across four terms. Exam-season help is triage: highest-yield topics, past-paper timing and mark-scheme language, starting from wherever the student already is. Both are worth doing. The mistake is booking triage in February and expecting the outcome of two years, which no tutor in Mumbai can deliver.
