One to One IB Tuition in Mumbai

One to one IB tuition in Mumbai is usually bought by the hour and judged by the week, which is the wrong unit. An hour of IB home tuition is harder work than an hour of class, because nobody else is answering. This page is about session length, frequency and fatigue, and the shape of a session that holds.

How does IB Gram match a one to one IB tuition request in Mumbai?

IB Gram matches a one to one IB tuition request in Mumbai by settling three things before any tutor name is sent: which board and which level, which of the six zones you live in, and how much concentration the student has left when school finishes. The third question decides session length, and session length decides most of what follows.

Most enquiry forms ask for a subject and a preferred time and stop there. That produces a standing two-hour slot on a Tuesday evening, because two hours sounds like value. It is the commonest reason a placement that looked right in week one has quietly become a ninety-minute session with a thirty-minute tail of nothing by week five. So before arranging IB home tuition in Mumbai we ask what time the student walks in, what they eat, whether there is a sport or a rehearsal that day, and whether anyone has ever watched them work alone for ninety minutes without a phone. Parents usually know the answer and have never been asked.

We then propose a shape before a person. A Diploma Programme (DP) Year 1 student in Chembur taking Mathematics Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level (HL) and starting a Physics Internal Assessment (IA) does not need the same pattern as an International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) Year 10 student in Khar West who is behind on Extended-tier algebra. The first needs one long block for the IA and one short one for problem sets. The second needs three short ones. Once the shape is agreed, the shortlist is drawn from tutors who can actually hold that pattern in that zone for a full term.

The process below is deliberately boring. It exists so that nobody is choosing a tutor and a session length in the same moment, which is how families end up buying the wrong shape from the right person. An IB private tutor in Mumbai who is excellent at Chemistry can still be wrong for a two-hour Friday slot, and that is a scheduling mistake rather than a teaching one.

  • 1. You send board, year, subjects, zone and the time school actually ends.
  • 2. We propose a session length and weekly pattern before proposing a tutor.
  • 3. Two or three tutor profiles follow, each with board experience named.
  • 4. A paid first session runs at the agreed length, not a standard block.
  • 5. After two weeks we revisit length and frequency with the tutor's notes.

IB, IGCSE and the programme years that change how long a session should run

The International Baccalaureate (IB) runs the Primary Years Programme (PYP) to Year 5, the Middle Years Programme (MYP) through Years 6 to 10, and the Diploma Programme (DP) in Years 11 and 12. Cambridge International Education and Pearson Edexcel run IGCSE across Years 9 and 10, with Core and Extended tiers in Mathematics and tiered papers in the sciences. Those labels matter here for one reason: they predict how long one to one IB tuition in Mumbai can usefully run before it stops being teaching.

A PYP student in Worli will give a tutor twenty-five focused minutes and then needs the task to change. An MYP Year 8 student will give forty. Booking a ninety-minute sitting for either is buying furniture. MYP Years 9 and 10 are where the first real internal assessments appear, and where a sixty-minute session becomes genuinely useful, because there is now a piece of work with criteria attached to it rather than a topic to revise.

IGCSE Years 9 and 10 sit comfortably at sixty to seventy-five minutes for content, with occasional longer blocks for a full past paper. The Core and Extended decision changes this. An Extended Mathematics candidate is working through harder material at the same age, so the first thirty minutes of a session carry more load and the back half tires faster. Dropping a student to Core to make the sessions feel easier is a decision about the next five years rather than about tuition, and it belongs with the school's coordinator.

DP is where long blocks earn their place. HL and Standard Level (SL) subject choice, six subjects, the Extended Essay (EE), Theory of Knowledge (TOK) and the IA carried by each subject together mean a DP student regularly needs a run-up: twenty minutes to find where the draft stopped, forty to write, twenty to read it back. That does not fit in an hour. But it is two or three sessions a term, not the standing weekly pattern, and treating every DP session as a two-hour block is how a February timetable collapses.

  • PYP: twenty-five to thirty minutes of real focus, then the task must change
  • MYP Years 6 to 8: forty to fifty minutes, and longer blocks mostly go to waste
  • MYP Years 9 to 10 and IGCSE: sixty to seventy-five minutes suits content work
  • IGCSE Core versus Extended changes load per minute, not just paper difficulty
  • DP: long blocks for IA, EE and timed papers, short ones for everything else

Which subjects reward a long block, and which punish one

Subject choice across both boards decides session length more than year group does. Mathematics Analysis and Approaches HL punishes long sessions: the thinking is dense, errors compound, and a student who is tired at minute seventy produces work that has to be redone, which costs the next session. Sixty minutes twice a week beats one hundred and twenty minutes once, almost always, for Mathematics at either level.

Written subjects run the other way. An Economics IA needs the article re-read, the diagram drawn, the evaluation paragraph argued, and then the whole thing read back. A History IA Section B needs sources in front of the student and time to change their mind. A Language A written task or a guided commentary needs a first attempt and a second attempt in the same sitting, because the gap between them is where the learning sits. These are the sessions where ninety minutes or two hours is the right purchase, and they are occasional.

The sciences split by component. Physics and Chemistry content work behaves like Mathematics and belongs in shorter sessions. The IA write-up, the uncertainty treatment and the graph that has to be redone behave like Economics and need a block. Biology Paper 2 extended-response practice sits between the two: three questions under timed conditions, then twenty minutes marking against the criteria, which is comfortable at eighty minutes and miserable at a hundred and twenty. Parents often ask for all IB and IGCSE subjects home classes in Mumbai from one person. When a parent asks for all IB and IGCSE subjects one tutor in Mumbai can genuinely teach, the honest answer is a short list, usually two or three closely related subjects, which is also why there is no single home tutor for all IB and IGCSE subjects in Mumbai.

TOK and the EE are their own case. A TOK essay session is almost entirely talking, which tires a student in a different way: they are generating rather than absorbing, and forty-five minutes of that is a great deal. The EE needs the longest sessions on this page, because a student has to get back inside a four-thousand-word argument before they can add a sentence to it, and a tutor who books an hour for EE supervision spends most of it on the run-up.

  • Mathematics HL and SL: two sixty-minute sessions beat one two-hour block
  • Economics, History and Language A assessments: ninety minutes or more, occasionally
  • Physics and Chemistry content short, IA write-up and graph work long
  • Timed paper practice plus marking: eighty minutes is the natural ceiling
  • TOK is generative talk, so forty-five focused minutes is already demanding
  • Extended Essay work needs a run-up, so under ninety minutes wastes half of it

Six Mumbai zones, and what each one does to a two-hour session

Mumbai, Maharashtra is one city for a parent and six separate scheduling problems for a tutor. The distance a tutor travels does not simply add cost. It decides who is tired when the session starts, and a tutor who has spent fifty minutes standing on the Western Line will not run a sharp first twenty minutes. The first twenty minutes are the ones that matter.

In South Mumbai, Colaba, Cuffe Parade, Peddar Road, Walkeshwar, Fort and Worli are physically close and slow to cross. Eight kilometres from Worli to Colaba can take forty minutes in the evening peak because of the Peddar Road and Haji Ali signals, and the Coastal Road helps the north-south run more than the cross-island one. Tutors here are matched inside the island, off the Western Line between Churchgate and Mumbai Central, the Harbour Line at CSMT and Dockyard, or Metro Line 3 up to BKC. Across the Bandra-Worli Sea Link the Western Suburbs run as a long strip: Bandra, Khar West, Santacruz, Juhu, Andheri West, Goregaon East, Malad, Kandivali, Borivali and Dahisar sit along the Western Express Highway, the Link Road, the Western Line and Metro Lines 1, 2A and 7. Matching along the line works. Matching across it at 6pm does not, and a Juhu to Kandivali placement is the one that most often becomes an online placement by October.

The Central Suburbs hang off the Central Line and the Eastern Express Highway: Kurla, Ghatkopar and Kanjurmarg, with Powai and Chandivali sitting on JVLR and no station of their own. A Powai tutor is reached by road from Andheri East, Kanjurmarg or Ghatkopar, and the Santacruz-Chembur Link Road is what makes a Powai to Bandra match possible at all. The Eastern Suburbs run from Chembur and Govandi through Vikhroli and Bhandup up to Mulund, with Wadala at the southern end, served by the Central and Harbour lines, the Eastern Express Highway and the Eastern Freeway. The Freeway is the quiet advantage here: a Chembur or Wadala family reaches South Mumbai faster than the map suggests, and so does a tutor, which is the rare case in Mumbai where a cross-zone evening match actually survives a term.

Navi Mumbai is built in nodes and tuition follows them. Vashi, Nerul, Belapur, Kharghar and Panvel are each a short drive from the next along Palm Beach Road and the Sion-Panvel Highway, with the Harbour Line, the Trans-Harbour Line from Thane and Navi Mumbai Metro Line 1 from Belapur to Pendhar underneath. The Atal Setu has shortened the crossing from the island city, but a tutor making that trip for a weekday evening lesson rarely holds the slot for a full term, so we match node to node. Thane spreads from the station east along Pokhran Road, Ghodbunder Road and Majiwada, and Ghodbunder sets the clock: twenty minutes to Kasarvadavali off-peak and close to an hour in the evening. A Thane family on Ghodbunder Road asking for an 8pm two-hour session is asking for a tutor who arrives at 8:20 and leaves at 9:40, and that session is not two hours of anything.

  • South Mumbai matched inside the island: Worli to Colaba still costs forty minutes
  • Western Suburbs matched along the line, Khar West to Santacruz, Malad to Kandivali
  • Powai and Chandivali reached by road off JVLR rather than by train
  • Eastern Freeway puts Chembur and Wadala closer to South Mumbai than expected
  • Navi Mumbai matched node to node: Vashi, Nerul, Belapur, Kharghar, Panvel
  • Ghodbunder Road adds forty evening minutes and shortens the session you booked

What the Mumbai school day leaves over, and when the calendar removes it

Most IB and IGCSE schools in Mumbai finish between 2:45pm and 3:30pm, and almost none of that time reaches the tutor. Dhirubhai Ambani International School in BKC, the American School of Bombay, Ascend International School, Ecole Mondiale World School and Jamnabai Narsee International School in Juhu, Oberoi International School on JVLR, Hiranandani Foundation School in Powai, B.D. Somani International School in Cuffe Parade, Cathedral and John Connon School in Fort, Bombay International School at Babulnath, Aditya Birla World Academy in Tardeo, NES International School in Mulund West, Smt. Sulochanadevi Singhania School in Thane and D.Y. Patil International School in Nerul all run creativity, activity and service commitments, sport and rehearsals after the last period. IB Gram is an independent platform and is not affiliated with any of these schools. They are named here because their calendars set the pressure points a tutor has to schedule around.

Then add the commute. A Dahisar student at a Juhu school is home at 5pm on a good day. A Kharghar student at a Nerul school is home by 4:15pm. A Peddar Road student walking back from a South Mumbai school is in by 3:45pm. Those three families cannot buy the same session. The first can realistically give a tutor one focused hour at 6pm, the second can hold ninety minutes at 5:30pm, and the third could run two shorter sessions on different days before dinner. Selling all three a standing two-hour evening block is the default, and it is wrong for two of them.

The calendar then removes time in predictable months. October and November bring MYP personal project checkpoints, DP1 end-of-unit assessments and the first IA proposals. December and January are IA draft season across subjects, which is when long sessions are genuinely needed and also when students are most tired. February and March are DP2 mocks and the final TOK essay, and this is the month families try to add hours. April and May are the DP examinations and the IGCSE May to June series, by which point adding anything is counterproductive. The November session shifts this whole pattern for the smaller number of Mumbai students sitting it.

Knowing the month is half of session planning. An IB home tutor in Mumbai who proposes the same ninety minutes in September and in March is not reading the year. September has room for content building and takes longer sessions comfortably. March has a student already running on mocks, school revision and sleep debt, and the right move in March is usually to shorten the sessions and keep the frequency rather than the reverse.

  • School ends 2:45pm to 3:30pm, then service, sport and rehearsals take the gap
  • The commute decides the realistic start time more than the school bell does
  • October to January: IA drafts, the months that actually justify long blocks
  • February and March: mocks, when shortening sessions beats adding them
  • April to May: DP exams and the IGCSE series, so taper rather than add

Home tuition, online or hybrid: which shape survives a Mumbai weekday?

Home tuition handles the Mumbai weekday most reliably for anything under seventy-five minutes, online wins when the alternative is a tutor arriving tired and late, and hybrid is what most one to one IB tuition in Mumbai settles into by the second term: a home session midweek and a longer session at the weekend or early in the morning.

IB home tuition in Mumbai is the lead service here because presence changes the first twenty minutes. A tutor sitting at the table sees the student stop writing, sees the line they have skipped, and can take the pen. For MYP and IGCSE students, and for anyone who drifts when unsupervised, that is worth more than convenience. The cost is travel: the tutor's journey is part of the session's quality, which is why we match inside the zone, and why a two-hour slot booked because the tutor is coming anyway is the most common bad purchase on this page.

An IB online tutor in Mumbai removes the travel and changes the fatigue rather than reducing it. Camera-on one to one is relentless in a way a room is not. There is no glance out of the window that goes unnoticed, no natural pause while the tutor walks to a board. Students are commonly more tired after fifty minutes online than after seventy at the kitchen table, and the sensible response is to book shorter online sessions rather than to assume online is the lighter option. Online also wins outright for scarce subjects: a Kharghar family needing Economics HL, or a Dahisar family needing Computer Science SL, may have no realistic in-zone option at all.

Hybrid is the honest recommendation for most families, and not because it is a compromise. The long IA and EE sessions want a room and a table. The short frequent sessions want zero travel, because travel is what makes short sessions uneconomic for the tutor and therefore expensive for you. Putting the long work at home on a weekend morning and the short work online on two weekday evenings gives a student more useful minutes than three home visits ever will. The trade-off is that you are managing two formats, and a student who needs supervision will use the online slot badly unless somebody is in the next room.

  • Home tuition: best for short and medium sessions, and for students who drift
  • Online: shorter sessions, because camera-on attention tires faster than a room
  • Online wins outright for a scarce HL subject with no in-zone tutor
  • Hybrid: long IA and EE work at home, short frequent work online
  • Travel is part of session quality, not just a line on the invoice

How is an IB home tutor in Mumbai checked before a long session is booked?

Every IB home tutor in Mumbai on the platform has a verified identity document, a verified degree, named board and syllabus experience, and references from previous families or schools. For a long session specifically we also ask the tutor how they would structure ninety minutes in that subject, because a tutor who cannot answer that will fill the time rather than plan it.

The checks are documentary and they have limits. A verified Mathematics degree tells you the tutor knows the content. It does not tell you whether they can read a fifteen-year-old who has gone quiet. That part is observed, and it is observed by you across the first two or three sessions, which is why we do not hide the tutor's own written account of how a session went.

There are four questions worth asking the tutor yourself, and they take about four minutes. At what point in a session do you change activity? What do you do when the student stops producing? What do the last twenty minutes of your sessions look like? Do you take a break inside a two-hour block, and what happens during it? A tutor who says they teach straight through for two hours is either very unusual or has never watched the clock. Then ask them to name the criteria for the IA they will be supervising, out loud, without looking it up. These tell you more than any certificate.

We also check the practical things that decide whether a session starts on time. Can the tutor reach your building reliably at the agreed hour across a full term, monsoon included? Is the slot realistic given where they live, or does it depend on traffic cooperating? A tutor who has to cross the Sea Link or come up the Eastern Express Highway in the 6pm peak may be perfect on paper and late nine weeks out of twelve. We would rather propose a less decorated tutor in your own zone, and we say so when that is the choice.

  • Identity document, degree and named board experience verified before any proposal
  • References from previous families or schools, checked rather than merely collected
  • Ask how the tutor structures ninety minutes in that specific subject
  • Ask what the final twenty minutes of their sessions actually look like
  • Travel reliability across a full term, monsoon included, is part of the check

Session length, frequency and fatigue: the real shape of a one to one hour

An hour of one to one IB tuition in Mumbai is not an hour of class, and families buy it as though it were. In a class of twenty-two there is nothing like twenty-two minutes of personal attention, but there is something else: pause. While the teacher helps somebody else, a student copies, thinks, rests, re-reads, catches up. One to one deletes all of that. There is nowhere to hide, no gap, no moment where the attention moves elsewhere. The student is producing or being questioned for the whole duration. That is the entire value of the format, and it is also why an hour of it weighs more than two hours of school.

So the first decision is length, and the default is too long. A two-hour block starting at 7pm after a full school day, a service commitment and a Mumbai commute gets bought because it looks efficient. What it usually delivers is fifty good minutes, thirty adequate ones, and forty minutes of a tutor explaining while a tired student nods. Those last forty minutes are not free. They cost money, they cost goodwill, and they teach a student that tuition is something to be endured. A single well-placed hour on a day with room in it beats that block, and most families work this out in week six rather than week one.

Frequency and duration trade against each other, and which one to buy depends on what the work is. New or difficult content wants frequency: two sessions of forty-five or sixty minutes beat one of two hours, because the student meets the material twice and the second meeting finds out what did not survive. Writing wants duration: an IA draft, a full timed paper with marking afterwards, an EE section that needs a run-up before anything can be added to it. If you are buying four hours a week, the better split is usually not two blocks of two, but three sessions of roughly an hour plus one longer one in the weeks when there is a draft on the table.

The shape inside the session matters as much as its length. Hard thinking goes early, in the first thirty to forty minutes, while the student still has something left. Consolidation goes later: worked examples the student narrates back, marking, tidying up, writing down what to do next. A session should finish rather than trail off, which means five minutes at the end where the tutor says what was covered, what the student could do by the end that they could not do at the start, and what the next session opens with. A session that drifts to a stop leaves almost nothing behind, whatever happened in the middle of it.

A break inside a long block is not a rest, it is a reset. Ten minutes away from the table, out of the chair, not on a phone, so that the second half begins with attention closer to fresh. It should be taken before the student needs it rather than after, because once a student has gone past the point of useful concentration the break only confirms it. A two-hour session without a break is almost never two hours of work, and a tutor who refuses one is managing the invoice rather than the learning.

Then there is the student who goes quiet twenty minutes in. Parents often read this as rudeness, or as the tutor being dull. Usually it is load. A good tutor treats silence as information: stop explaining, hand over the pen, ask the student to do the next line out loud, drop to an easier question they will certainly get right, change the subject area, or end ten minutes early and say so honestly. A tutor who answers silence by talking more is making it worse, and this is the single clearest thing to watch for in the first fortnight of any placement.

The exam-term temptation is to add hours, and it is where good placements break. In February a family doing three sessions a week adds a fourth, and output falls. The fourth session comes out of sleep, or out of the hours the student would otherwise have spent working alone, and both of those are worth more than a fourth hour of being questioned. Adding a session is the easiest thing a parent can do and among the least likely to help. The honest point underneath all of this is that a tired student learns very little regardless of who is teaching them, and no amount of tutor quality changes that arithmetic.

  • One to one deletes the pauses a classroom gives, so an hour weighs more
  • New or hard content: two shorter sessions beat one long one
  • IA drafts, timed papers and EE work: buy the long block instead
  • Hard thinking in the first forty minutes, consolidation and marking after
  • Take the ten-minute break before the student needs it, not after
  • Silence at twenty minutes means load, so change activity rather than explain more

What should four weeks of one to one IB home tuition in Mumbai actually show?

At four weeks, one to one IB home tuition in Mumbai should have produced two things: a tutor who can tell you exactly what the student cannot yet do, and a session length that has stopped changing. Not a grade. Four weeks is four to six sessions, which is enough to settle the shape and start the work, and nowhere near enough to move a predicted grade.

By the end of a term you should see something checkable. A specific topic that was blank in September is now producible without help. An IA has a structure and a word count rather than a plan. The student's own account of sessions has moved from vague to specific, which is usually the first real signal that anything is working. School marks may or may not have moved, because a term contains two or three assessments and one of them can go badly for reasons nobody controls.

Across a full exam cycle the honest expectation is a shift in the predicted grade band on consistent work, and firmer control of the components where marks were being lost. We do not guarantee grades, and we would be lying if we did. Too much sits outside a tutor's reach: attendance, sleep, the other five subjects, the school supervisor's own IA timeline, and whether the student writes anything at all between sessions. What a tutor controls is whether the hour is well spent and whether somebody is telling you the truth about it.

The limits are worth stating plainly. A tutor cannot make a two-hour evening session work for a student who has been awake since 6am and travelling since 3:15pm, and a good one will say so rather than take the booking. Progress on a subject a student has given up on internally is slow regardless of hours bought. And if the only thing that has changed after six weeks is that you are spending more, the problem is almost always the shape or the match rather than the effort, which is a conversation to have in October and not in March.

  • Four weeks: a settled session length and a precise list of what is missing
  • One term: one blank topic now producible, one IA with real structure
  • One exam cycle: firmer control of the components losing marks
  • No guarantees, because sleep, school and five other subjects are not ours
  • Six weeks with no change means wrong shape or wrong match, so raise it

Starting one to one IB tuition in Mumbai: what to prepare before session one

To start one to one IB tuition in Mumbai, send four things: the board and year, the subjects and levels, your zone or locality, and the time the student actually gets home. The fourth is the one that changes the recommendation, so do not round it up.

Useful to have ready, though not required: the last report card or assessment sheet, the IA task sheet or criteria if one is already in progress, and the school's assessment calendar for the term. A parent typing IB tutors near me in Mumbai into Google at 9pm on a Sunday usually has none of this to hand, and that is fine. The first conversation runs perfectly well without any of it.

The first session is paid, runs at the agreed length rather than a standard block, and has a specific job: find out what the student can and cannot do, and find out how long they last. The tutor should end it by telling you both, in plain terms, where the gaps are and what session shape they recommend. If that recommendation differs from what you booked, the session has done its work. We revisit length and frequency again at two weeks with the tutor's notes in front of us.

If the tutor is not right, say so in the first fortnight. A replacement is a conversation and a new shortlist rather than a complaint process, and it is far more often a shape or personality mismatch than a competence problem. Parents who wait until the term is half gone have usually lost the time that mattered. IB tuition fees in Mumbai depend on board, level, subject scarcity, travel distance and session length, which is why the shape conversation comes before the price one rather than after it.

  • Send board, year, subjects and levels, zone, and the real time home
  • Bring the last report, the IA task sheet and the term calendar if handy
  • First session is paid, at the agreed length, and ends with a recommendation
  • Length and frequency revisited at two weeks using the tutor's notes
  • Raise a mismatch in the first fortnight rather than in March
FAQs

Mumbai tutoring — questions parents ask

How long should a one to one IB session actually be?+

For most students, between sixty and ninety minutes, which is shorter than parents expect. Content work in Mathematics, Physics or Chemistry sits best at sixty minutes, because the thinking is dense and tired work has to be redone. Writing work, an Internal Assessment draft or a full timed paper with marking afterwards, justifies ninety minutes to two hours. Below Year 9, forty-five minutes is usually the ceiling. The test is simple: ask the tutor what happened in the last twenty minutes of the last session. If the answer is vague, the session is too long, and shortening it will usually produce more rather than less.

Is a two-hour session after school too long?+

Usually yes, if it starts after a full school day and a commute. One to one has no pauses in it, so two unbroken hours of being questioned is heavier than a full morning of class. What a 7pm two-hour block typically delivers is a strong first hour and a second hour of the tutor explaining to a student who is nodding. If you want two hours, put them on a Saturday morning, break them in the middle, and use them for an IA draft or a timed paper rather than new content. On a weekday, one well-placed hour beats it.

Two shorter sessions a week or one long one?+

Two shorter ones for new or difficult content, one long one for writing. New material needs to be met twice, and the second meeting is where you find out what did not survive the week. A single two-hour session gives one exposure and a tired tail. Writing is the opposite: an Economics or History Internal Assessment, an Extended Essay section, or a Paper 2 under timed conditions followed by marking all need a run-up an hour cannot provide. Most families buying one to one IB tuition in Mumbai at four hours a week do better with three ordinary sessions and one long one when a draft is live.

Should we add a fourth session a week before mocks?+

Usually not. A family already doing three sessions a week who adds a fourth in February almost always takes those hours out of sleep, or out of the time the student would have spent working alone, and both are worth more than a fourth hour of being questioned. If February feels short, shorten the existing sessions and keep the frequency, or convert one session into supervised silent work with the tutor present rather than teaching. Adding hours is the easiest move available and among the least likely to help. A tired student learns very little regardless of who is teaching.

What do IB tuition fees in Mumbai depend on?+

Board, level, subject scarcity, travel distance and session length, in roughly that order. A Higher Level Diploma Programme subject costs more per hour than an IGCSE one. A scarce subject such as Computer Science or Music costs more than Mathematics anywhere in the city. A tutor crossing a zone prices the travel in, which is one more reason to match in-zone. Session length matters in both directions: very short sessions are uneconomic for a travelling tutor, and very long ones often buy minutes that will not be used. We do not publish a price list, because an honest number depends on all five.

My daughter goes quiet about twenty minutes into every session. Is the tutor wrong for her?+

Possibly, but more often it is load rather than personality. Twenty minutes of one to one questioning is genuinely demanding, and silence is the usual first sign that a student has stopped processing. What matters is the tutor's response. Handing over the pen, asking the student to narrate the next step out loud, dropping to a question they will certainly get right, changing the subject area, or ending ten minutes early and saying so are all good responses. Explaining more loudly is not. Ask the tutor what they do when a student goes quiet, and the answer will tell you whether to replace them.

Can a tutor come to our building in Kharghar on a weekday evening?+

Yes, provided the tutor is matched inside Navi Mumbai. Kharghar, Belapur, Nerul, Vashi and Panvel are each a short drive apart along Palm Beach Road and the Sion-Panvel Highway, so a node-to-node match holds a weekday home tuition slot reliably across a term. Pulling a tutor from the island city across the Atal Setu for a 6:30pm session works for a few weeks and then starts slipping. If the subject you need is scarce in Navi Mumbai, the better answer is a shorter online session on weekday evenings plus a longer home session at the weekend.

What does our society gate need from the tutor?+

A name, a phone number and usually a photo identity document, logged once rather than every week. Most Mumbai societies will issue a standing visitor entry for a recurring weekly home tuition slot if the flat registers it with the committee or the security desk in advance, and that is worth doing in the first week. Where a standing pass is not possible, the tutor should be given the gate's app-based approval flow or a resident contact to call. Ten minutes lost at the gate is ten minutes off a sixty-minute session, which is a sixth of what you paid for.

Does online one to one tire a student less than a tutor at home?+

No, it usually tires them more per minute. Camera-on one to one has no natural pauses at all: no tutor walking to a board, no glance out of the window that goes unnoticed. Many students are more drained after fifty minutes online than after seventy at the kitchen table. The right response is to book shorter online sessions rather than to treat online as the lighter option. Online still wins on travel and on scarce subjects, and for a Dahisar or Panvel family needing a Higher Level subject with no in-zone tutor it is often the only workable arrangement.

The tutor seems good but the sessions are not working. What happens?+

Change the shape before you change the person. In most of these cases the tutor is competent and the session length, time of day or frequency is wrong, and moving a two-hour Tuesday block to two one-hour sessions fixes it. Tell us what the last twenty minutes look like and what time the student gets home, and we will propose a different pattern with the same tutor. If that does not help within two or three sessions, a replacement is a new shortlist and a short conversation, with no argument about it and no penalty for asking.

We are on Ghodbunder Road in Thane and school ends at 3:15pm. What is realistic?+

One focused hour on a weekday starting around 6pm, plus a longer weekend session when there is written work. Ghodbunder Road adds close to forty minutes in the evening peak, so a Thane tutor living near the station reaches Kasarvadavali at about 6:20pm for a 6pm booking, and a two-hour slot becomes ninety minutes of real time. Matching inside Thane, from the station out through Majiwada and Pokhran Road, is what keeps the slot alive. Mulund tutors sometimes cross over on the Eastern Express Highway, but that is a weekend arrangement far more often than a weekday one.

Where should the student sit, and does a parent need to be at home?+

At a table with a proper chair, in a room with a door, and no television in earshot. A dining table works better than a bedroom for most students, because it is harder to slump at one. A parent does not need to sit in, and generally should not, but somebody being in the flat matters for younger students and for anyone who drifts, including during online sessions. What is worth doing is being around for the last five minutes of home tuition, when the tutor says what was covered and what the student could do by the end.

Find your Mumbai tutor

Send the board and year, the subjects and levels, your zone, and the time the student actually gets home. We reply with a recommended session length and weekly pattern first, then two or three tutor profiles who can hold that pattern in your zone. The first session is paid, runs at the agreed length, and ends with the tutor telling you both where the gaps are. We revisit the shape at two weeks.
